Abstract
Different from the well-investigated enynes, transition-metal-catalyzed carbocyclization reactions of allenynes are more attractive as a result of the unique structure and versatile reactivity of allenes. Herein, we report the first cobalt-catalyzed highly chemo- and stereoselective arylative carbocyclization of 1,6-allenynes with arylboronic acids, affording five-membered carbocycles and heterocycles with moderate to high yields, broad substrate scope, and wide functional group compatibility. Moreover, several mechanistic experiments were conducted to gain insight into the reaction process.

Abstract
Direct C-H bond functionalization is a useful strategy for the straightforward formation of C-C and C-Heteroatom bonds. In the present work, a unique approach for the challenging electrophilic Au-catalyzed α-C-H bond functionalization of tertiary amines is presented. Electronic, steric and conformational synergistic effects exerted by the use of a malonate unit in the substrate were key to the success of this transformation. This new reactivity was applied to the synthesis of tetrahydro-γ-carboline products which, under oxidative conditions, could be converted into valuable structural motifs found in bioactive alkaloid natural products.

Abstract
Herein, we describe an efficient nanocopper-catalyzed Alder-ene reaction of allenynamides. The copper nanoparticles were immobilized on amino-functionalized microcrystalline cellulose. A solvent-controlled chemoselectivity of the reaction was observed, leading to the chemodivergent synthesis of pyrrolines (2,5-dihydropyrroles) and pyrroles. The heterogeneous copper catalyst exhibits high efficiency and good recyclability in the Alder-ene reaction, constituting a highly attractive catalytic system from an economical and environmental point of view.

Abstract
Thermally induced cycloisomerization reactions of 1,6-allenynes gives α-methylene-γ-lactams via intramolecular Alder-ene reactions. The mechanism is supported by computational and deuterium labeling studies. This thermal, non-radical method enables the discovery of a hitherto unknown route that proceeds via a divergent mechanism distinct from the previous [2+2] cycloisomerization manifold.

Abstract
Three- and four-membered rings, widespread motifs in nature and medicinal chemistry, have fascinated chemists ever since their discovery. However, due to energetic considerations, small rings are often difficult to assemble. In this regard, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to construct these highly strained carbocycles. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of all the major advances and discoveries made in the gold-catalyzed synthesis of cyclopropanes, cyclopropenes, cyclobutanes, cyclobutenes, and their corresponding heterocyclic or heterosubstituted analogs.

Abstract
Gold-mediated homogeneous catalysis is a powerful tool for construction of valuable molecules and has lately received growing attention. Whereas Au(I)-catalyzed processes have become well established, those mediated by Au(III) have so far barely been explored, and their mechanistic understanding remains basic. Herein, we disclose the combined NMR spectroscopic, single-crystal X-ray crystallographic, and computational (DFT) investigation of the Au(III)-mediated alkoxycyclization of a 1,6-enyne in the presence of a bidentate pyridine-oxazoline ligand. The roles of the counterion, the solvent, and the type of Au(III) complex have been assessed. Au(III) is demonstrated to be the active catalyst in alkoxycyclization. Alkyne coordination to Au(III) involves decoordination of the pyridine nitrogen and is the rate-limiting step.

Abstract
The syntheses of a series of 1-phenyl-5-phosphino 1,2,3-triazoles are disclosed, within which, the phosphorus atom (at the 5-position of a triazole) is appended by one, two or three triazole motifs, and the valency of the phosphorus(III) atom is completed by two, one or zero ancillary (phenyl or cyclohexyl) groups respectively. This series of phosphines was compared with tricyclohexylphosphine and triphenylphosphine to study the effect of increasing the number of triazoles appended to the central phosphorus atom from zero to three triazoles. Gold(I) chloride complexes of the synthesised ligands were prepared and analysed by techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure determination. Gold(I) complexes were also prepared from 1-(2,6-dimethoxy)-phenyl-5-dicyclohexyl-phosphino 1,2,3-triazole and 1-(2,6-dimethoxy)-phenyl-5-diphenyl-phosphino 1,2,3-triazole ligands. The crystal structures thus obtained were examined using the SambVca (2.0) web tool and percentage buried volumes determined. The effectiveness of these gold(I) chloride complexes to serve as precatalysts for alkyne hydration were assessed. Furthermore, the regioselectivity of hydration of but-1-yne-1,4-diyldibenzene was probed.

Enantioselective Rhodium-Catalyzed Cycloisomerization of 1,6-Allenynes to access 5/6-Fused Bicycle[4.3.0]nonadienes. Nat Commun 2019; 10:949. Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 1,n-allenynes represents a powerful synthetic tool to rapidly assemble complex polycyclic skeletons from simple linear substrates. Nevertheless, there are no reports of the asymmetric version of these reactions. Moreover, most of these reactions proceed through a 6-endo-dig cyclization pathway, which preferentially delivers the distal product (via 5/5 rhodacyclic intermediate) rather than the proximal one (via 6/5 rhodacyclic intermediate). Herein, we report an enantioselective rhodium(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 1,6-allenynes to provide the proximal product 5/6-fused bicycle[4.3.0]nonadienes in good yields and with excellent enantioselectivities. Remarkably, this chemistry works perfectly for 1,6-allenynes having a cyclic substituent within the allene component, thereby affording synthetically formidable tricyclic products with excellent enantioselectivities. Moreover, extensive DFT calculations suggest an uncommon pathway involving 5-exo-dig cycloisomerization, ring-expansion, rate-determining alkene isomerization involving Csp3-H activation, C-C activation of the cyclobutene moiety and finally reductive elimination. Deuterium labeling experiments support the rate-determining step involving the C–H bond activation in this transformation. Cycloisomerization of 1,n-allenynes allows to efficiently assembly polycyclic skeletons, however its asymmetric variant remains elusive. Here, the authors report the enantioselective Rh(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 1,6-allenynes and disclose an uncommon 5-exo-dig pathway via DFT calculations.

Abstract
With their mechanistic novelty and various modalities of reactivity, transition metal unsaturated carbene (alkenylidene) complexes have emerged as versatile intermediates for new reaction discovery. In particular, the past decade has witnessed remarkable advances in the chemistry of metal vinylidenes and allenylidenes, leading to the evolution of a diverse array of new catalytic transformations that are mechanistically distinct from those developed in the previous two decades. This review aims to provide a survey of the recent achievements in the development of organic reactions that make use of transition metal alkenylidenes as catalytic intermediates and their applications to organic synthesis.

Gold(I)
acetylide and σ,π-digold(I) alkyne complexes
derived from one prototypical 1,6-enyne and from 7-ethynyl-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene
have been prepared and structurally characterized. Their possible
role in gold(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerizations has been studied by
experiment and by DFT calculations. Gold(I) acetylides are totally
unproductive complexes in the absence of Brønsted acids. Similarly,
no cyclizations were observed by heating σ,π-digold(I)
alkyne digold(I) at least up to 130 °C. Theoretical studies provide
a rationale for the much lower reactivity of digold species in reactions
of enynes.

Abstract
A detailed analysis of the C(sp3 )-H activation process by vinylidene AuI complexes is described based on an intrinsic bond orbital analysis. Based on our analysis this event can be divided into three phases: (i) hydride transfer, (ii) C-C bond formation, and (iii) σ to π rearrangement of the lone pair coordinated to Au. Small perturbations of the system lead to either a concerted asynchronous reaction, or a stepwise reaction featuring an intermediate with a C-H-C three-centre two-electron (3c-2e) bond. The role of π-donating substituents is highlighted and provides a way of controlling reactions of this type in future experimental studies.

Abstract
This work discloses that a simple change in the anion of a copper(II) reagent along with the reaction solvent can dramatically alter the course of a Cp*RhIII -catalyzed C-H activation-annulation reaction leading to completely switchable chemoselective products. The nature of the anion in terms of its coordinating ability and basicity, and also the polarity of the solvent have been found to be the crucial factors in the observed divergence.

Abstract
A compound that isomerizes into distinct products depending on the particular Lewis acid or Brønsted acid catalyst used is disclosed. One product can only be obtained with the softest π-acids, such as Au, Pt, Ga, or In complexes. Another is formed only with harder π-acids incorporating Ag or Cu salts. The formation of the third category requires even harder π-acids or protons. This simple benchmark reaction allows for prediction of the category of transformations that can be catalyzed by a new complex. It also informs whether protons have been unintentionally generated in the reaction mixture.
