Abstract
Dialkylchlorophosphines are among the most versatile building blocks for tertiary phosphine ligands, but their synthesis relies on the nucleophilic substitution of PCl3, leaving substituents that require P-H precursors largely inaccessible. The primary phosphine reagent iPr2NPH2·BH3 can serve as a doubly protected PH2Cl proxy, enabling the synthesis of bis(bicyclo[1.1.1]pentyl)chlorophosphine (Bcp2PCl) for the first time. Bcp2PCl serves as a general reagent for the preparation of a family of bis(bicyclo[1.1.1]pentyl) alkyl- and arylphosphines, including new members of privileged phosphine ligand scaffolds.

Abstract
The combination of the ferrocene moiety with gold(I) catalysis remains a relatively unexplored field. In this article, we delve into the synthesis, characterization, and potential catalytic activity of four complexes utilizing both monodentate and bidentate ferrocenyl diphenylphosphane ligands (ppf and dppf), coordinated with two gold(I) metal centers, linked by either chloride or pentafluorophenylthiolate bridging ligands. This leads to the formation of cationic "self-activated" precatalysts capable of initiating the catalytic cycle without the need for external additives. The catalytic activity of these complexes was assessed through a model reaction in gold(I) catalysis, specifically the cyclization of a N-propargylbenzamide to produce an oxazole. In addition, we studied and compared the influence exerted by both the phosphane and the bridging ligand on the performance of these catalysts.

Abstract
Planar chiral ferrocenyl phosphines have been employed as highly valuable ligands in metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions. However, their preparation remains a formidable challenge due to the requirement for intricate, multistep synthetic sequences. In addressing this issue, we have developed a groundbreaking enantioselective C-H activation strategy facilitated by P(III) directing groups, enabling the efficient construction of planar chiral ferrocenyl phosphines in a single step. Our innovative approach entails the combination of a palladium catalyst, a parent ferrocenyl phosphine, and a chiral phosphoramidite ligand, leading to exceptional reactivity and enantioselectivity. Remarkably, these novel ligands exhibit remarkable efficacy in silver-catalyzed asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. We carried out a combination of experimental and computational studies to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the reaction pathway and the factors contributing to enantioselectivity.

Abstract
As an important class of platform molecules, planar chiral ferrocene carbonyl compounds could be transformed into various functional groups offering facile synthesis of chiral ligands and catalysts. However, developing efficient and straightforward methods for accessing enantiopure planar chiral ferrocene carbonyl compounds, especially ferroceneformaldehydes, remains highly challenging. Herein, we report a rhodium(I)/phosphoramidite-catalyzed enantioselective C-H bond arylation of ferroceneformaldehydes. Readily available aryl halides such as aryl iodides, aryl bromides, and even aryl chlorides are suitable coupling partners in this transformation, leading to a series of planar chiral ferroceneformaldehydes in good yields and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 83% yield and >99% ee). The aldehyde group could be transformed into diverse functional groups smoothly, and enantiopure Ugi's amine and PPFA analogues could be synthesized efficiently. The latter was found to be a highly efficient ligand in Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation reactions. Mechanistic experiments supported the formation of imine intermediates as the key step during the reaction.

Abstract
The functionalization of (R,R)-S,S'-di-tert-butylferrocene-1,1'-disulfoxide by deprotolithiation-electrophilic trapping sequences was studied towards polysubstituted, enantiopure derivatives for which the properties were determined. While the 2,2'-disubstituted ferrocene derivatives were obtained as expected, subsequent functionalization of the 2,2'-di(phenylthio) and 2,2'-bis(trimethylsilyl) derivatives occurred primarily at the 4- or 4,4'-positions. This unusual regioselectivity was discussed in detail in light of pKa values and structural data. The less sterically hindered 2,2'-difluorinated derivative yielded the expected 1,1',2,2',3,3'-hexasubstituted ferrocenes by the deprotometallation-trapping sequence. Further functionalization proved possible, leading to early examples of 1,1',2,2',3,3',4,4'-octa, nona and even decasubstituted ferrocenes. Some of the newly prepared ferrocene-1,1'-disulfoxides were tested as ligands for enantioselective catalysis and their electrochemical properties were investigated.

Abstract
A family of planar chiral indene-fused ferrocenes were prepared through an intramolecular asymmetric C-H arylation in excellent yields (up to 99%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). They were thereafter successfully transformed to chiral ferrocenyl phosphines, featuring both planar and central chiralities, in good yields (up to 83%) and excellent diastereoselectivities (up to 99% de) through highly diastereoselective phosphination. This protocol offers a general method for planar and central chiral ferrocenyl phosphines. The potential applications of the newly developed ligands were demonstrated by a Pd-catalyzed enantioselective allylic alkylation reaction, in which high enantioselectivity (92% ee) and good yield (89%) were obtained.

Abstract
Ferrocenes with planar chirality have emerged as an important class of scaffolds for ligands in asymmetric catalysis; however, ferrocene molecules with polychiral structures have not been well explored. Herein, both axially and planar chiral ferrocenes were synthesized via palladium/chiral norbornene cooperative catalysis and axial-to-planar diastereoinduction. In this work, chiral norbornene was used to stereoselectively control the aromatic axial chirality, and further selectivity induced C(sp2)-H activation for ferrocene planar chirality. Based on density functional theory calculations, the catalytic model of chiral norbornene with the substrate and the axial-to-planar diastereoinduction process were confirmed.

Abstract
A combination of different types of redox-active systems in one molecule makes it possible to create coordination compounds with extended redox abilities, combining molecular and electronic structures determined by the features of intra- and intermolecular interactions between such redox-active centres. This review summarizes and analyses information from the literature, published mainly from 2000 to the present, on the methods of preparation, the molecular and electronic structure of mixed-ligand coordination compounds based on redox-active ligands of the o-benzoquinone type and ferrocenes, ferrocene-containing ligands, the features of their redox properties, and some chemical behaviour.

Abstract
The purpose of the study is to design synthetic methodologies, especially directed deprotometalation using polar organometallic reagents, to access polysubstituted ferrocenesulfoxides. From enantiopure 2-substituted (SiMe3, PPh2) S-tert-butylferrocenesulfoxides, a third substituent was first introduced at the 5 position (SiMe3, I, D, C(OH)Ph2, Me, PPh2, CH2NMe2, F) and removal of the trimethylsilyl group then afforded 2-substituted ferrocenesulfoxides unreachable otherwise. Attempts to apply the "halogen dance" reaction to the ferrocenesulfoxide series led to unexpected results although rationalized in light of calculated pKa values. Further functionalizations were also possible. Thus, new enantiopure, planar chiral di- and trisubstituted ferrocenes have been obtained, in addition to several original 2-substituted, 2,3- and 2,5-disubstituted, 2,3,5-trisubstituted and even 2,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted ferrocenesulfoxides, also enantiopure.

Abstract
This paper reports an unprecedented trifunctionalization of tertiary enaminones for the synthesis phosphoryl nitriles by the reactions of enaminones with diarylphosphine oxides and trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) without the use of any metal reagent. Employing tetrabutyl ammonium hydroxide (TBAH) as the catalyst (0.2 equiv) enables discrete cyanophosphonation. On the other hand, selective proximal cyanophosphonation has been realized in the presence of acetic acid only (AcOH).

Abstract
Planar-chiral transition metal complexes are useful chiral auxiliaries in organic and organometallic chemistry, and they have been utilized as chiral ligands, chiral catalysts, or chiral building blocks, etc. Despite the importance of such planar-chiral species in asymmetric synthesis, their preparation in optically active forms is still a challenging problem. Indeed, reported examples of catalytic enantioselective synthesis of planar-chiral complexes have been rare, and this has been a developing area in this field. In this personal account, recent results from our research group on the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of various planar-chiral transition metal complexes are summarized. The asymmetric ring-closing metathesis reactions catalyzed by the well-defined molybdenum-alkylidene species are powerful methods to control the planar chirality in ferrocenes, ruthenocenes, (η6 -arene)chromium complexes, and (η5 -cyclopentadienyl)manganese(I) complexes. Application of the enantiomerically enriched complexes obtained by our methods is described as well.

Abstract
The ruthenium-catalyzed remote ε-C-H alkylation of phosphines with tertiary alkyl halides has been developed. This novel PIII-directed C-H activation strategy tolerated various functional groups and delivered a wide variety of modified phosphines with excellent meta-site selectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that a PIII-assisted ortho-cyclometalation/remote σ-activation pathway might be involved in this methodology.

Abstract
Ferrocenes are versatile ligand scaffolds, complexes of which have found numerous applications in catalysis. Structurally similar but of higher redox stabilites are sandwich complexes of the [Re(η6-arene)2]+ type. We report herein routes for conjugating potential ligands to a single or to both arenes in this scaffold. Since the arene rings can freely rotate, the [Re(η6-arene)2]+ has a high degree of structural flexibility. Polypyridyl ligands were successfully introduced. The coordination of Co(ii) to such a model tetrapyridyl-Re(i)-bis-benzene complex produced a bimetallic Re(i)-Co(ii) complex. To show the stability of the resulting architecture, a selected complex was subjected to photocatalytic reactions. It showed good activity in proton reduction over a long time and did not decompose, corroborating its extraordinary stability even under light irradiation. Its activity compares well with the parent catalyst in turn over numbers and frequencies. The supply of electrons limits catalytic turnover frequency at concentrations below ∼10 μM. We also show that other ligands can be introduced along these strategies. The great diversity offered by [Re(η6-arene)2]+ sandwich complexes from a synthetic point allows this concept to be extended to other catalytic processes, comparable to ferrocenes.

Abstract
The addition of different substituted o-benzoquinones and o-iminobenzoquinones to tin(II) bis(o-iminophenolates) of the types (Fc-IP)2SnII and (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnII (where Fc-IP is anion 2-(ferrocenylmethyleneamino)phenolate [Fc-C(H)═N(C6H4)O-] and Fc-4,6-IP is anion 2-(ferrocenylmethyleneamino)-4,6-di-tert-butylphenolate [Fc-C(H)═N(4,6-tBu-C6H2)O-]) in tetrahydrofuran leads to the oxidation of Sn(II) to Sn(IV) with formation of the corresponding tin(IV) catecholates (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnIV(3,6-Cat) (1), (Fc-IP)2SnIV(3,6-Cat) (2), (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnIV(4-Cl-3,6-Cat) (3), (Fc-IP)2SnIV(4-Cl-3,6-Cat) (4), (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnIV(4,5-Cl2-3,6-Cat) (5), and (Fc-IP)2SnIV(4,5-Cl2-3,6-Cat) (6) or the o-amidophenolates (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnIV(AP-Me) (7), (Fc-IP)2SnIV(AP-iPr) (8), and (Fc-4,6-IP)2SnIV(AP-iPr) (9). Here ligands 3,6-Cat, 4-Cl-3,6-Cat, and 4,5-Cl2-3,6-Cat are dianions 3,6-di-tert-butyl-, 4-chloro-3,6-di-tert-butyl-, and 4,5-dichloro-3,6-di-tert-butylcatecholates, respectively, and AP-Me and AP-iPr are dianions 4,6-di-tert-butyl-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-o-amidophenolate and 4,6-di-tert-butyl-N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-o-amidophenolate, respectively. Complexes 1-9 have been characterized in detail by IR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of tin(IV) complexes 5, 7, and 9 in the crystalline state were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes demonstrate a series of successive oxidations involving alternately catecholato/o-amidophenolato centers and ferrocenyl moieties. The relative oxidation potentials of these redox centers depend on the acceptor properties of the redox-active chelating O,O' or O,N ligand. An increase in the acceptor properties of redox-active o-quinonato-type ligands leads to an increase in the oxidation potentials of redox ligands as well as the following oxidation of ferrocenyl group(s). In two series of complexes, (Fc-4,6-L)2SnL' and (Fc-L)2SnL', where L' is AP-iPr, AP-Me, 3,6-Cat, 4-Cl-3,6-Cat, and 4,5-Cl2-3,6-Cat, a more pronounced convergence of the oxidation potentials of the redox-active o-quinonato ligand and ferrocenyl group occurs in the series (Fc-L)2SnL'.

Abstract
The coenzyme NAD(P)H plays an important role in electron as well as proton transmission in the cell. Thus, a variety of NAD(P)H models have been involved in biomimetic reduction, such as stoichiometric Hantzsch esters and achiral regenerable dihydrophenantheridine. However, the development of a general and new-generation biomimetic asymmetric reduction is still a long-term challenge. Herein, a series of chiral and regenerable NAD(P)H models with central, axial, and planar chiralities have been designed and applied in biomimetic asymmetric reduction using hydrogen gas as a terminal reductant. Combining chiral NAD(P)H models with achiral transfer catalysts such as Brønsted acids and Lewis acids, the substrate scope could be also expanded to imines, heteroaromatics, and electron-deficient tetrasubstituted alkenes with up to 99% yield and 99% enantiomeric excess (ee). The mechanism of chiral regenerable NAD(P)H models was investigated as well. Isotope-labeling reactions indicated that chiral NAD(P)H models were regenerated by the ruthenium complex under hydrogen gas first, and then the hydride of NAD(P)H models was transferred to unsaturated bonds in the presence of transfer catalysts. In addition, density functional theory calculations were also carried out to give further insight into the transition states for the corresponding transfer catalysts.

Abstract
Recently, CuH-catalyzed reductive coupling processes involving carbonyl compounds and imines have become attractive alternatives to traditional methods for stereoselective addition because of their ability to use readily accessible and stable olefins as surrogates for organometallic nucleophiles. However, the inability to use aldehydes, which usually reduce too rapidly in the presence of copper hydride complexes to be viable substrates, has been a major limitation. Shown here is that by exploiting relative concentration effects through kinetic control, this intrinsic reactivity can be inverted and the reductive coupling of 1,3-dienes with aldehydes achieved. Using this method, both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes can be transformed into synthetically valuable homoallylic alcohols with high levels of diastereo- and enantioselectivities, and in the presence of many useful functional groups. Furthermore, using a combination of theoretical (DFT) and experimental methods, important mechanistic features of this reaction related to stereo- and chemoselectivities were uncovered.

Abstract
In spite of the growing interest in fluorine-containing compounds, and the improvements in materials, optical and biological properties that can arise from substitution of a phenyl ring by ferrocene within a molecular scaffold, synthetic strategies that allow the efficient preparation of fluoroferrocene derivatives are scarce. Following conversion of ferrocene to fluoroferrocene, we have developed routes to fluorine-containing di-, tri-, tetra- and penta-substituted ferrocene derivatives to extend the available chemical space. Our approach is based on the identification of suitable reagents and conditions to achieve fluorine-directed deprotometalation, and exploitation of the halogen 'dance' rearrangement in the ferrocene series.

Abstract
The study of the reactivity of three 2-phenyl-3H-indole ligands of general formulae C8H3N-2-(C6H4-4-R1)-3-NOMe-5-R2 (1) [with R1 = H, R2 = OMe (a); R1 = R2 = H (b) or R1 = Cl, R2 = H (c)] with [Pd(η3-1-R3C3H4)(μ-Cl)]2 (R3 = H or Ph) has allowed us to isolate two sets of new Pd(II)-allyl complexes of general formulae [Pd(η3-1-R3C3H4)(1)Cl] {R3 = H (2) or Ph (3)}. Compounds 2a–2c and 3a–3c were characterized by elemental analyses, mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of 2a, 3a and 3b were also determined by X-ray diffraction. 1H-NMR studies reveal the coexistence of two (for 2a–2c) or three (for 3a–3c) isomeric forms in CD2Cl2 solutions at 182 K. Additional studies on the catalytic activity of mixtures containing [Pd(η3-C3H5)(μ-Cl)]2 and the parent ligand (1a–1c) in the allylic alkylation of (E)-3-phenyl-2-propenyl (cinnamyl) acetate with sodium diethyl 2-methylmalonate as well as the stoichiometric reaction between compounds 3a and 3c with the nucleophile reveal that in both cases the formation of the linear trans- derivative is strongly preferred over the branched product. Computational studies at a DFT level on compound 3a allowed us to compare the relative stability of their isomeric forms present in solution and to explain the regioselectivity of the catalytic and stoichiometric processes.

Abstract
We report a series of ferrocene-based derivatives and their corresponding oxidized forms in which the introduction of simple electron donating groups like methyl or tert-butyl units on cyclopentadienyl-rings afford great tunability of Fe+III/Fe+II redox potentials from +0.403 V down to -0.096 V versus saturated calomel electrode. The spin forbidden d-d transitions of ferrocene derivatives shift slightly toward the blue region with an increasing number of electron-donating groups on the cyclopentadienyl-rings with very little change in absorptivity values, whereas the ligand-to-metal transitions of the corresponding ferricinium salts move significantly to the near-IR region. The electron-donating groups also contribute in the strengthening of electron density of Fe+III d-orbitals, which therefore improves the chemical stability against the oxygen reaction. Further, density functional theory calculations show a reducing trend in outer shell reorganization energy with an increasing number of the electron donating units.

Abstract
A practical method for the synthesis of α-chiral amines by alkylation of amines with alcohols in the absence of any transition-metal catalysts has been developed. Under the co-catalysis of a ketone and NaOH, racemic secondary alcohols reacted with Ellman's chiral tert-butanesulfinamide by a hydrogen autotransfer process to afford chiral amines with high diastereoselectivities (up to >99:1). Broad substrate scope and up to a 10 gram scale production of chiral amines were demonstrated. The method was applied to the synthesis of chiral deuterium-labelled amines with high deuterium incorporation and optical purity, including examples of chiral deuterated drugs. The configuration of amine products is found to be determined solely by the configuration of the chiral tert-butanesulfinamide regardless of that of alcohols, and this is corroborated by DFT calculations. Further mechanistic studies showed that the reaction is initiated by the ketone catalyst and involves a transition state similar to that proposed for the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction, and importantly, it is the interaction of the sodium cation of the base with both the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the sulfinamide moiety that makes feasible, and determines the diastereoselectivity of, the reaction.

Abstract
A catalytic asymmetric direct C-H arylation of (η6-arene)chromium complexes to obtain planar-chiral compounds is reported. The use of the hemilabile ligand H8-BINAP(O) is key to providing high enantioselectivity in this transformation. We show that this methodology opens the door to the synthesis of a variety of planar-chiral chromium derivatives which can be easily transformed into planar chiral mono- or diphosphines. Mechanistic studies, including synthesis and characterization of Pd and Ag complexes and their detection in the reaction mixture, suggest a Pd-catalyzed/Ag-promoted catalytic system where Ag carries out the C-H activation step.

Abstract
Chiral tertiary alcohols are important building blocks for the synthesis of pharmaceutical agents and biologically active natural products. The addition of carbon nucleophiles to ketones is the most common approach to tertiary alcohol synthesis but traditionally relies on stoichiometric organometallic reagents that are difficult to prepare, sensitive, and uneconomical. We describe a mild and efficient method for the copper-catalyzed allylation of ketones using widely available 1,3-dienes as allylmetal surrogates. Homoallylic alcohols bearing a wide range of functional groups are obtained in high yield and with good regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivity. Mechanistic investigations using density functional theory (DFT) implicate the in situ formation of a rapidly equilibrating mixture of isomeric copper(I) allyl complexes, from which Curtin-Hammett kinetics determine the major isomer of the product. A stereochemical model is provided to explain the high diastereo- and enantioselectivity of this process. Finally, this method was applied to the preparation of an important drug, ( R)-procyclidine, and a key intermediate in the synthesis of several pharmaceuticals.
