Abstract
We report herein a visible light-mediated C-H hydroxyalkylation of quinolines and isoquinolines that proceeds via a radical path. The process exploits the excited-state reactivity of 4-acyl-1,4-dihydropyridines, which can readily generate acyl radicals upon blue light absorption. By avoiding the need for external oxidants, this radical-generating strategy enables a departure from the classical, oxidative Minisci-type pattern and unlocks a unique reactivity, leading to hydroxyalkylated heteroarenes. Mechanistic investigations provide evidence that a radical-mediated spin-center shift is the key step of the process. The method's mild reaction conditions and high functional group tolerance accounted for the late-stage functionalization of active pharmaceutical ingredients and natural products.

Abstract
A phosphite-mediated [2,3]-aza-Wittig rearrangement has been developed for the regio- and enantioselective allylic alkylation of six-membered heteroaromatic compounds (azaarenes). The nucleophilic phosphite adducts of N-allyl salts undergo a stereoselective base-mediated aza-Wittig rearrangement and dissociation of the chiral phosphite for overall C-H functionalization of azaarenes. This method provides efficient access to tertiary and quaternary chiral centers in isoquinoline, quinoline, and pyridine systems, tolerating a broad variety of substituents on both the allyl part and azaarenes. Catalysis with chiral phosphites is also demonstrated with synthetically useful yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A highly efficient electrophilic addition of 3-diazooxindoles to H-phosphine oxides under metal-free and base-free conditions is established, leading to phosphinic hydrazides. This method has good chemoselectivity and broad substrate diversity, and provides a facile and green approach for N–P bond formation. The stereoselective synthesis represents a unique example of asymmetric electrophilic addition of diazo compounds as N-terminal electrophiles with phosphorus compounds, affording P-stereogenic phosphinic hydrazides with excellent stereoselectivity.

Abstract
Dual promiscuous racemization/amidation activities of lipases leading to efficient dynamic kinetic resolution protocols of racemic α-aminonitrile compounds are described. α-Amidonitrile products of high enantiomeric purity could be formed in high yields. Several lipases from different sources were shown to exhibit the dual catalytic activities, where opposite enantioselectivities could be recorded for certain substrates.

Abstract
We herein report a robust and efficient synthetic route to highly functionalized enantiopure 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs) from Garner aldehyde. We utilized the inherent chirality of Garner aldehyde through 1,2- and 1,3-/1,4-asymmetric inductions iteratively to obtain 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstitued THIQs using rigid and isolable bridged oxazolidines without any external chiral sources. All possible stereoisomers of bridged oxazoliodines were efficiently synthesized from L- and D-Garner aldehydes and transformed into fully functionalized THIQs via diastereoselective ring opening with various nucleophiles in the presence of Yb(OTf)(3). This methodology furnished four out of eight possible diastereomers of 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted THIQs despite the electronic nature of substituents on the aryl rings. Finally, the enantioselective synthesis of 2-azapodophyllotoxin was achieved with an overall yield of 35.4% (eight steps) from D-Garner aldehyde using this synthetic route.

Abstract
Alpha-alkoxy ketones 3 can be transformed into 1-alkynyl ethers 5 by a two-step procedure involving formation of the enol triflate or phosphate and base-induced elimination. Performing the same reaction sequence with allylic alcohols (R2OH, R2 = allyl) furnishes instead gamma,delta-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives 6, derived from [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of the intermediate allyl alkynyl ethers at -78 degrees C and trapping of the subsequently formed ketene with nucleophiles (Nu-H). Benzyl alkynyl ether 5 (R2 = benzyl) rearranges to indanone 7 upon heating to 60 degrees C.
