Abstract
Two different classes of stereoselective cyclizations have been developed using a chiral auxiliary approach with commercially available [JohnPhosAu(MeCN)SbF6 ] as catalyst. First, a stereoselective cascade cyclization of 1,5-enynes was achieved using the Oppolzer camphorsultam as chiral auxiliary. In this case, a one-pot cyclization-hydrolysis sequence was developed to directly afford enantioenriched spirocyclic ketones. Then, the stereoselective alkoxycyclization of 1,6-enynes was mediated by an Evans-type oxazolidinone. A reduction-hydrolysis sequence was selected to remove the auxiliary to give enantioenriched β-tetralones. DFT studies confirmed that the steric clash between the chiral auxiliary and alkene accounts for the experimentally observed diastereoselective cyclization through the Si face.

Abstract
The enantioselective reaction of 1,6-enynes with O-, N-, and C-nucleophiles has been developed by matched ion pair gold(I) catalysis in which the chiral gold(I) cation and anion are H-bonded through a urea group. Very high levels of enantiocontrol are achieved (up to >99:1 er) for a broad scope of substrates. DFT studies demonstrate the importance of the H-bond donor group in anchoring the matched chiral cation- and anion-favoring additional noncovalent interactions.

Abstract
Gold(III) complexes are versatile catalysts offering a growing number of new synthetic transformations. Our current understanding of the mechanism of homogeneous gold(III) catalysis is, however, limited, with that of phosphorus-containing complexes being hitherto underexplored. The ease of phosphorus oxidation by gold(III) has so far hindered the use of phosphorus ligands in the context of gold(III) catalysis. We present a method for the generation of P,N-chelated gold(III) complexes that circumvents ligand oxidation and offers full counterion control, avoiding the unwanted formation of AuCl4-. On the basis of NMR spectroscopic, X-ray crystallographic, and density functional theory analyses, we assess the mechanism of formation of the active catalyst and of gold(III)-mediated styrene cyclopropanation with propargyl ester and intramolecular alkoxycyclization of 1,6-enyne. P,N-chelated gold(III) complexes are demonstrated to be straightforward to generate and be catalytically active in synthetically useful transformations of complex molecules.

Abstract
The catalyst-directed divergent synthesis, commonly termed as "divergent catalysis", has emerged as a promising technique as it allows chartering of structurally distinct products from common substrates simply by modulating the catalyst system. In this regard, gold complexes emerged as powerful catalysts as they offer unique reactivity profiles as compared to various other transition metal catalysts, primarily due to their salient electronic and geometrical features. Owing to the tunable soft π-acidic nature, gold catalysts not only evolved as superior contenders for catalyzing the reactions of alkynes, alkenes, and allenes but also, more intriguingly, have been found to provide divergent reaction pathways over other π-acid catalysts such as Ag, Pt, Pd, Rh, Cu, In, Sc, Hg, Zn, etc. The recent past has witnessed a renaissance in such examples wherein, by choosing gold catalysts over other transition metal catalysts or by fine-tuning the ligands, counteranions or oxidation states of the gold catalyst itself, a complete reactivity switch was observed. However, reviews documenting such examples are sporadic; as a result, most of the reports of this kind remained scattered in the literature, thereby hampering further development of this burgeoning field. By conceptualizing the idea of "Divergent Gold Catalysis (DGC)", this review aims to consolidate all such reports and provide a unified approach necessary to pave the way for further advancement of this exciting area. Based on the factors governing the divergence in product formation, an explicit classification of DGC has been provided. To gain a fundamental understanding of the divergence in observed reactivities and selectivities, the review is accompanied by mechanistic insights at appropriate places.

Abstract
Three- and four-membered rings, widespread motifs in nature and medicinal chemistry, have fascinated chemists ever since their discovery. However, due to energetic considerations, small rings are often difficult to assemble. In this regard, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to construct these highly strained carbocycles. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of all the major advances and discoveries made in the gold-catalyzed synthesis of cyclopropanes, cyclopropenes, cyclobutanes, cyclobutenes, and their corresponding heterocyclic or heterosubstituted analogs.

Abstract
The synthesis of versatile scaffold indolopyrans based on C-C radical-radical cross-coupling under metal-free conditions is described. The reaction involving single electron transfer between coupling partners followed by cage collapse allows highly selective cross-coupling while employing only equimolar amounts of coupling partners. Moreover, the mechanistic manifold was expanded for the functionalization of enamines to give the stereoselective synthesis of 2,3-dihydrofurans. This iodine-mediated oxidative coupling features mild conditions and fast reaction kinetics.

Abstract
Auration of o-trimethylsilyl arylphosphines leads to the formation of gold and gold-silver clusters with ortho-metalated phosphines displaying 3c-2e Au-C-M bonds (M=Au/Ag). Hexagold clusters [Au6 L4 ](X)2 are obtained by reaction of (L-TMS)AuCl with AgX, whereas reaction with AgX and Ag2 O leads to gold-silver clusters [Au4 Ag2 L4 ](X)2 . Oxo-trigold(I) species [Au3 O]+ were identified as the intermediates in the formation of the silver-doped clusters. Other [Au5 ], [Au4 Ag], and [Au12 Ag4 ] clusters were also obtained. Clusters containing PAu-Au-AuP structural motif display good catalytic activity in the activation of alkynes under homogeneous conditions.

Abstract
Gold-mediated homogeneous catalysis is a powerful tool for construction of valuable molecules and has lately received growing attention. Whereas Au(I)-catalyzed processes have become well established, those mediated by Au(III) have so far barely been explored, and their mechanistic understanding remains basic. Herein, we disclose the combined NMR spectroscopic, single-crystal X-ray crystallographic, and computational (DFT) investigation of the Au(III)-mediated alkoxycyclization of a 1,6-enyne in the presence of a bidentate pyridine-oxazoline ligand. The roles of the counterion, the solvent, and the type of Au(III) complex have been assessed. Au(III) is demonstrated to be the active catalyst in alkoxycyclization. Alkyne coordination to Au(III) involves decoordination of the pyridine nitrogen and is the rate-limiting step.

Abstract
The transition metal-catalysed skeletal reorganization of 1,6-enynes can lead to three types of products - a type I product occurring via the cleavage of the alkene C-C bonds and the migration of the terminal alkene carbon to the terminus of the alkyne; a type II product arising from cleavage of both the double and the triple bonds followed by insertion of the terminal alkene carbon into the alkyne C-C triple bond; and a type III product which is obtained when there is a cleavage of the olefinic bond followed by formation of two new bonds from each carbon to each of the acetylenic carbons. The course of these reactions is highly dependent on the metal catalyst used and type of substitution at the alkene and alkyne moieties of the enyne. In this mechanistic study of the re-organization of 1,6-enynes catalysed by GaCl3, performed at the DFT M06/6-311G(d,p) level of theory, the parent reaction selectively leads to the formation of the type I product through the formation of the open cyclopropane ring. The presence of substituents at the acetylenic moiety governs the preferred position of the metal along the alkyne bond within the pi-complex: with electron-withdrawing groups (EWGs), the metal prefers the terminal carbon while electron-donating groups (EDGs) lead to the metal preferring the internal carbon. EWGs at the alkyne moiety efficiently favour the formation of the type I product. Substituents at the olefin moiety alter the mechanism of the reaction which may favour the selective formation of the type I or III product depending on the type of substituent. EWGs at the olefinic moiety favour formation of the type III product when the alkyne moiety is unsubstituted whiles EDGs forms the type I product selectively. Solvent and temperature have no substantial effects on the energetic trends and product distribution. Hence, gas-phase calculations are deemed adequate for the problem at hand.

Abstract
We herein report the gold(iii)-catalyzed selective annulation of anthranils with N-allylynamides under mild conditions. By trapping the in situ-generated α-imino gold carbenes, 3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-imines were obtained in high synthetic efficiency. The reaction, which can be conducted in the gram scale, tolerates electron-rich and electron-deficient anthranils as well as a diverse set of functionalized ynamides (aryl- and alkyl-substituted terminal).

Abstract
A series of gold(I) and gold(III) complexes containing bulky bis-N,N'-(9-alkylfluorenyl) heterocyclic carbene (R F-NHC) ligands have been prepared in high yields from appropriate imidazolinium, imidazolium and benzimidazolium salts. In all complexes, the carbene ligand provides high steric protection of the Au-X bond trans to the carbenic C atom. Irrespective of the metal oxidation state, the complexes showed high efficiency in a tandem 3,3-rearrangement/Nazarov reaction of an enynyl acetate. One of the AuIII complexes, [AuCl3 (R F-NHC)], was further found to be suitable for the efficient cyclisation of a propargylcarboxamide. Furthermore, unlike related NHC-gold(I) complexes based on conventional bulky N-heterocyclic carbenes (notably, 1,3-bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IPr), 1,3-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IMes) and 1,3-(bis-tert-butyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (ItBu)), the studied [AuI Cl(R F-NHC)] complexes catalysed the conversion of a 1,6-enyne in the presence of indole into a single product; this arises from the embracing character of the ligand, which prevents indole addition on one of the catalytic intermediates. A structure/selectivity relationship was established for all carbenes tested that took into account percent buried volumes and topographic steric maps. The results illustrate the high potential of confining NHCs in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The selective transformation of different starting materials by different metal catalysts under individually optimized reaction conditions to structurally different intermediates and products is a powerful approach to generate diverse molecular scaffolds. In a more unified albeit synthetically challenging strategy, common starting materials would be exposed to a common metal catalysis, leading to a common intermediate and giving rise to different scaffolds by tuning the reactivity of the metal catalyst through different ligands. Herein we present a ligand-directed synthesis approach for the gold(I)-catalysed cycloisomerization of oxindole-derived 1,6-enynes that affords distinct molecular scaffolds following different catalytic reaction pathways. Varying electronic properties and the steric demand of the gold(I) ligands steers the fate of a common intermediary gold carbene to selectively form spirooxindoles, quinolones or df-oxindoles. Investigation of a synthesized compound collection in cell-based assays delivers structurally novel, selective modulators of the Hedgehog and Wnt signalling pathways, autophagy and of cellular proliferation. Synthetic methods that efficiently construct structurally diverse molecular scaffolds are attractive routes to diversely bioactive molecules. Here the authors report a method whereby common starting materials are converted to structurally and functionally diverse products by changing the catalyst ligand.

Abstract
We have developed an innovative strategy for the formation of angular carbocycles via a gold(I)-catalyzed dehydro Diels-Alder reaction. This transformation provides rapid access to a variety of complex angular cores in excellent diastereoselectivities and high yields. The usefulness of this AuI -catalyzed cycloaddition was further demonstrated by accomplishing a 11-steps total synthesis of (±)-magellanine.

Abstract
The ruthenium-catalyzed 1,6-enyne cyclization in the presence of bulky substituted terminal alkyne proceeds smoothly at room temperature to afford highly substituted five-membered cyclic compounds featuring a 1,5-enyne motif. Deuterium-labeling experiments showed that the key ruthenacyclopentene intermediate undergoes cleavage of metal-carbon bonds through the metal-assisted σ-bond metathesis reaction, thus leading to the formation of C(sp(2))-H and C(sp(3))-C(sp) bonds.
