Abstract
Two different classes of stereoselective cyclizations have been developed using a chiral auxiliary approach with commercially available [JohnPhosAu(MeCN)SbF6 ] as catalyst. First, a stereoselective cascade cyclization of 1,5-enynes was achieved using the Oppolzer camphorsultam as chiral auxiliary. In this case, a one-pot cyclization-hydrolysis sequence was developed to directly afford enantioenriched spirocyclic ketones. Then, the stereoselective alkoxycyclization of 1,6-enynes was mediated by an Evans-type oxazolidinone. A reduction-hydrolysis sequence was selected to remove the auxiliary to give enantioenriched β-tetralones. DFT studies confirmed that the steric clash between the chiral auxiliary and alkene accounts for the experimentally observed diastereoselective cyclization through the Si face.

Abstract
A thermally-induced intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of allylamino- or allyloxy-tethered alkylidenecyclopropanes has been reported in this paper, giving a new protocol for the rapid construction of polycyclic skeleton molecules in moderate to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope. On the basis of control experiments and DFT calculations, we disclosed that the reaction proceeded through a [4+2] cycloaddition and trace of water assisted 1,3-H shift process to give the target product.

Abstract
Three- and four-membered rings, widespread motifs in nature and medicinal chemistry, have fascinated chemists ever since their discovery. However, due to energetic considerations, small rings are often difficult to assemble. In this regard, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to construct these highly strained carbocycles. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of all the major advances and discoveries made in the gold-catalyzed synthesis of cyclopropanes, cyclopropenes, cyclobutanes, cyclobutenes, and their corresponding heterocyclic or heterosubstituted analogs.

Abstract
Pyridine-substituted alkylidenecyclopropanes (Py-ACPs) react with gold(III) salts under mild reaction conditions through an unprecedented, proximal ring-opening pathway, to generate highly appealing, catalytically active pyridine alkenyl [C^N]-gold(III) species. Mechanistic studies reveal that the activation of the C-C bond of the ACP takes place through an unusual concerted, σ-bond metathesis type-process.

Abstract
Four carbon ring systems are frequently present in natural products with remarkable biological activities such as terpenoids, alkaloids, and steroids. The development of new strategies for the assembly of these structures in a rapid and efficient manner has attracted the interest of synthetic chemists for a long time. The current research is focused mainly on the development of synthetic methods that can be performed under mild reaction conditions with a high tolerance to functional groups. In recent years, gold complexes have turned into excellent candidates for this aim, owing to their high reactivity, and are thus capable of promoting a wide range of transformations under mild conditions. Their remarkable efficiency has been thoroughly demonstrated in the synthesis of complex organic molecules from simple starting materials. This review summarizes the main synthetic strategies described for gold-catalyzed four-carbon ring formation, as well as their application in the synthesis of natural products.

Abstract
The development of methods toward the construction of quaternary carbon centers has been a hot topic in recent years. In this work, an Au(I)-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization/semipinacol rearrangement of allene-containing allylic silyl ether was developed to provide a direct strategy for the construction of multisubstituted cyclohexene-type compounds with a quaternary carbon center in moderate to good yields. In particular, this method provides an alternative synthetic strategy for the construction of a multisubstituted spirocyclo[4.5]decane skeleton and may be applied to the synthesis of related bioactive molecules and their derivatives, thus facilitating the corresponding functional studies.

Abstract
The addition of organometallic reagents to ketones constitutes one of the most straightforward synthetic approaches to tertiary alcohols. However, due to the absence of a well-behaved class of cyclopropanone surrogates accessible in enantioenriched form, such a trivial synthetic disconnection has received very little attention in the literature for the formation of tertiary cyclopropanols. In this work, we report a simple and high-yielding synthesis of 1-substituted cyclopropanols via the addition of diverse organometallic reagents to 1-phenylsulfonylcyclopropanols, acting here as in situ precursors of the corresponding cyclopropanones. The transformation is shown to be amenable to sp-, sp2-, or sp3-hybridized organometallic C-nucleophiles under mild conditions, and the use of enantioenriched substrates led to highly diastereoselective additions and the formation of optically active cyclopropanols.

Abstract
A novel Lewis acid-catalyzed cycloisomerization of alkylidenecyclopropane acylsilanes is disclosed. The readily available starting materials participate in tandem Prins addition/ring expansion/1,2-silyl shift to grant access to bicyclo[4.2.0]octanes and bicyclo[3.2.0]heptanes, which are common motifs in terpenoid natural products. Notably, the transformation relies on the ability of acylsilanes to act sequentially as acceptors and donors on the same carbon atom.

Abstract
The first total synthesis of nominal harziane diterpenoid 1 is disclosed, whose spectral characteristics did not match those of the reported natural product. Stereochemical analysis and subsequent synthesis of the epimeric tertiary alcohol led to reassignment of configuration of the natural product as shown for 2. At the heart of the synthesis is an enyne cycloisomerization that sets a key quaternary stereocenter within a cyclobutane with high diastereocontrol. The route features strategies for the synthesis of the highly congested 6-5-7-4 carbon skeleton characteristic of the caged harziane diterpenoids.

Abstract
As little as 2 mol % of (XPhos)AuNTf2 catalyzes the transformation of a broad range of o-acetylene-substituted styrenes into 1,2-dihydronaphthalenes. Our data suggests that this transformation occurs via a gold-stabilized cyclopropyl carbinyl cation, which triggers either a [1,2] carboxylate shift or a less favorable [1,2] aryl shift. The relative rates of these migrations can be controlled by the identity of the ligand or by stabilizing the mesomeric cation.

Abstract
An iridium-catalyzed tandem olefin migration/Cope rearrangement of alkenyl ω-ene cyclopropanes is reported. By this means, a variety of complex annulenes are obtained as single diastereomers starting from cyclopropyl ester derived from simple 1,ω-dienes and alkenyldiazo compounds. Long-range olefin migration over up to 10 positions could be realized and coupled with an efficient Cope rearrangement to yield valuable scaffolds. Various functional groups are well-tolerated, giving rise to densely functionalized products. Furthermore, the present methodology could be successfully extended to yield bicyclic cycloheptenones starting from readily available alkenyl cyclopropanols via a Kulinkovich reaction.

Abstract
Chiral Lewis acid catalyzed asymmetric formation of cyclobutanones from α-silyloxyacroleins and α-alkyl or α-aryl diazoesters has been developed. In the presence of a chiral oxazaborolidinium ion catalyst, various α-silyloxycyclobutanones possessing a chiral β-quaternary center were synthesized in high yield (up to 91%) with excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivity (up to 98% ee and up to >20:1 dr) through tandem cyclopropanation/semipinacol rearrangement. The synthetic potential of this method was illustrated by conversion of the product to various cyclic compounds such as γ-lactone, cyclobutanol, and cyclopentanone.

Abstract
Catalytic ring opening cross coupling reactions of strained cyclopropanols have been useful for the syntheses of various β-substituted carbonyl products. Among these ring opening cross coupling reactions, the formation of α,β-unsaturated enone byproducts often competes with the desired cross coupling processes and has been a challenging synthetic problem to be addressed. Herein, we describe our efforts in developing divergent syntheses of a wide range of γ-butyrolactones and δ-ketoesters containing all-carbon quaternary centers via copper-catalyzed cyclopropanol ring opening cross couplings with 2-bromo-2,2-dialkyl esters. Our mechanistic studies reveal that unlike the previously reported cases, the formation of α,β-unsaturated enone intermediates is actually essential for the γ-butyrolactone synthesis and also contributes to the formation of the δ-ketoester product. The γ-butyrolactone synthesis is proposed to go through an intermolecular radical conjugate addition to the in situ generated α,β-unsaturated enone followed by an intramolecular radical cyclization to the ester carbonyl double bond. The reactions are effective to build all-carbon quaternary centers and have broad substrate scope.

Abstract
An intramolecular catalytic dearomatization of phenols via gold carbene species proceeded to provide 2-azaspiro[4.5]decan-3-ones. The use of NHC ligand and water as a co-solvent was critical for achieving high reactivity. This reaction did not require hazardous diazo compounds as carbene sources and proceeded even under air. The obtained spirocyclic product could be readily transformed into a gabapentin derivative by hydrogenation and deprotection.

Abstract
A synthesis of symmetrical gem-difluoromethylenated angular triquinanes is described. The synthetic strategy involved sequential fluoride-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of PhSCF2SiMe3 (1) to 2,2-diallylated or 2,2-dipropargylated indane-1,3-diones 2 followed by stereoselective radical cyclization of the resulting adducts 3 to provide the cyclized gem-difluoromethylenated diquinanes 4 as a mixture of stereoisomers. Repeated addition of 1 to 4 followed by cyclization resulted in the stereoselective synthesis of the desired C2-symmetric gem-difluoromethylenated angular triquinanes 6 in good yields with high stereoselectivity.

Abstract
New synthetic methods were developed for the preparation of 2,3,6-trisubstituted 1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinolines as CRTh2 antagonists. The isoquinolinone core could be constructed before the introduction of substitution groups or synthesized through a catalytic intramolecular cyclization reaction with desired substitution groups properly installed. These synthetic strategies have helped to accelerate the SAR development of this series, and potent lead compounds were identified in both the CRTh2 receptor binding assay and the CD11b biomarker assay.

Abstract
A diastereoselective, gold-catalyzed cascading cycloisomerization of alkylidene cyclopropane bearing 1,5-enynes that terminates in a cyclo-addition of aldehydes has been developed. This diastereoselective reaction provides convergent access to novel polycyclic molecular structures (18 examples), and tolerates a diverse scope of aldehydes. Mechanistic studies reveal that the catalytic cycle rests at a digold off-cycle intermediate, one of which was isolated.

Abstract
A gold(i)-catalyzed cycloisomerization of easily available 1,5-enynes containing a cyclopropane ring has been developed, efficiently providing cyclobutane-fused 1,4-cyclohexadiene, tricyclic cyclobutene, biscyclopropane and 1,3-cyclohexadiene derivatives in moderate to excellent yields. When the phenyl group was not ortho substituted, 1,4-cyclohexadienes could be produced. With an ortho substituent, three different products could be selectively synthesized by control of the temperature and the used gold(i) catalyst. The 1,5-enyne substrate first undergoes a classical enyne cycloisomerization to form a tricyclic cyclobutene key intermediate, which undergoes subsequent transformation to produce the desired products. A plausible reaction mechanism was proposed according to deuterium labeling experiments and intermediate trapping experiments, as well as DFT calculations. In our current reaction, the ortho substituent on the phenyl group controls the reaction outcome and the ortho substituent effect was found to originate from steric and electronic factors.

Abstract
A common enyne scaffold, resembling the structures of natural elemanes was found to be an excellent substrate for highly regioselective cycloisomerizations to produce diverse cyclopropane sesquiterpenoids. Platinum-catalysis was utilized to produce either lindenane or myliol cores, found in natural products, starting from enyne acetate 10 and its corresponding allene 12 respectively. Based on this concept, a second generation strategy allows the formal synthesis of sarcandralactone A.
