Abstract
PURPOSE Household air pollution is one of the leading causes of death and disease globally. Emerging evidence of elevated risk of neonatal death has been reported in Africa and South Asia. However, evidence on the extent of the problem in Latin America is limited despite the persistent use of highly polluting cooking fuels. We assessed whether the use of high-polluting household cooking fuels increases the risk of neonatal death compared to low-polluting fuels in Colombia. METHODS We used cross-sectional data from the 2005-2015 Colombian Demographic Health Survey and performed a survey-featured multivariate logistic regression. We selected adjustment covariates based on a causal diagram, addressed missing data through multiple imputation, and conducted several sensitivity analysis, such as propensity score matching. RESULT We found evidence suggesting an increased risk of neonatal death in households using high-polluting fuels (OR: 1.48; 95% CI: 0.91, 2.39). The sensitivity analyses were consistent with the main analysis. CONCLUSION We observed increased odds of neonatal death associated with using high-polluting household cooking fuels compared to low-polluting fuels, although this association was not statistically significant. This study contributes evidence to a region where the issue is not yet a priority and should be included in national-level discussions and interventions that impact cooking fuel use patterns.

Saxena K. Association Between Maternal Prenatal Exposure to Household Air Pollution and Child Respiratory Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. Abstract
Maternal prenatal exposure to household air pollution (HAP) is a critical public health concern with potential long-term implications for child respiratory health. The objective of this study is to assess the level of association between prenatal household air pollution and child respiratory health, and to identify which HAP pollutants are associated with specific respiratory illnesses or symptoms and to what degree. Relevant studies were retrieved from PubMed databases up to April 27, 2010, and their reference lists were reviewed. Random effects models were applied to estimate summarized relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The analysis involved 11 studies comprising 387 767 mother-child pairs in total, assessing various respiratory health outcomes in children exposed to maternal prenatal HAP. Children with prenatal exposure to HAP pollutants exhibited a summary RR of 1.26 (95% CI=1.08-1.33) with moderate between-study heterogeneity (I²=49.22%) for developing respiratory illnesses. Specific associations were found between prenatal exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) (RR=1.11, 95% CI: 1.09-1.13), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) (RR=1.46, 95% CI: 1.09-1.60), and particulate matter (PM) (RR=1.26, 95% CI: 1.2186-1.3152) and child respiratory illnesses (all had I² close to 0%, indicating no heterogeneity). Positive associations with child respiratory illnesses were also found with ultrafine particles (UFP), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and ozone (O3). However, no significant association was observed for prenatal exposure to sulfur dioxide (SO2). In summary, maternal prenatal exposure to HAP may contribute to a higher risk of child respiratory health issues, emphasizing the need for interventions to reduce this exposure during pregnancy. Targeted public health strategies such as improved ventilation, cleaner cooking technologies, and awareness campaigns should be implemented to minimize adverse respiratory effects on children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In low- and middle-income countries, households mainly use solid fuels like wood, charcoal, dung, agricultural residues, and coal for cooking. This poses significant public health concerns due to the emission of harmful particles and gases. To address these issues and support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopting cleaner cooking fuels like electricity and gas are acknowledged as a viable solution. However, access to these cleaner fuels is limited, especially in rural areas. METHODS This study conducted a face-to-face survey with 1240 individuals in rural Bangladesh to explore the link between health issues and cooking fuel type, as well as barriers to transitioning to clean cooking. Using a convenient sampling technique across four divisions/regions, the survey gathered socio-demographic and health data, along with information on clean cooking barriers through a semi-structured questionnaire. Binary and multivariable logistic regression analyses were then employed to identify significant associations between cooking fuel type and health problems. RESULTS The study revealed that a majority of participants (73.3%) relied on solid fuel for cooking. The use of solid fuel was significantly correlated with factors such as lower education levels, reduced family income, location of residence, and the experience of health issues such as cough, chest pressure while breathing, eye discomfort, diabetes, asthma, and allergies. Economic challenges emerged as the foremost obstacle to the adoption of clean cooking, accompanied by other contributing factors. CONCLUSION The use of solid fuel in rural Bangladeshi households poses substantial health risks, correlating with respiratory, eye, cardiovascular, and metabolic issues. Lower education and income levels, along with specific residential locations, were associated with higher solid fuel usage. Economic challenges emerged as the primary obstacle to adopting clean cooking practices. These findings emphasize the need for implementing strategies to promote clean cooking, address barriers, and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal targets for health and sustainable energy access in Bangladesh.

Abstract
Global maternal and neonatal mortality rates remain unacceptably high. The postnatal period, encompassing the first hour of life until 42 days, is critical for mother-baby dyads, yet postnatal care (PNC) coverage is low. Identifying mother-baby dyads at increased risk for adverse outcomes is critical. Yet few efforts have synthesized research on proximate and distant factors associated with maternal and neonatal mortality during the postnatal period. This scoping review identified proximate and distant factors associated with maternal and neonatal mortality during the postnatal period within low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). A rigorous, systematic search of four electronic databases was undertaken to identify studies published within the last 11 years containing data on risk factors among nationally representative samples. Results were synthesized narratively. Seventy-nine studies were included. Five papers examined maternal mortality, one focused on maternal and neonatal mortality, and the rest focused on neonatal mortality. Regarding proximate factors, maternal age, parity, birth interval, birth order/rank, neonate sex, birth weight, multiple-gestation, previous history of child death, and lack of or inadequate antenatal care visits were associated with increased neonatal mortality risk. Distant factors for neonatal mortality included low levels of parental education, parental employment, rural residence, low household income, solid fuel use, and lack of clean water. This review identified risk factors that could be applied to identify mother-baby dyads with increased mortality risk for targeted PNC. Given risks inherent in pregnancy and childbirth, adverse outcomes can occur among dyads without obvious risk factors; providing timely PNC to all is critical. Efforts to reduce the prevalence of risk factors could improve maternal and newborn outcomes. Few studies exploring maternal mortality risk factors were available; investments in population-based studies to identify factors associated with maternal mortality are needed. Harmonizing categorization of factors (e.g., age, education) is a gap for future research.

Abstract
Suicidal ideation is a complex phenomenon influenced by several predisposing, contextual, and mediating factors that seem more common among healthcare workers, especially nurses. We investigated the association of bullying and burnout with suicidal ideation among Bangladeshi nurses and identified the associated factors. We conducted a cross-sectional study among 1264 nurses in Bangladesh between February 2021 and July 2021. We applied a modified Poisson regression model with robust error variance to determine the association of bullying and burnout with suicidal ideation. Among 1264 nurses, the female was 882 (70.02%), and the mean age was 28.41 (SD = 5.54) years. The prevalence of high levels of suicidal ideation was 13.26%. In the Poison regression model, high risk bullying (RR = 6.22, 95% CI 3.13-12.38), targeted to bullying (RR = 7.61, 95% CI 3.53-16.38), and burnout (RR = 8.95, 95% CI 2.84-28.20) were found to be significantly associated with suicidal ideation. Furthermore, we found significant interaction between workplace bullying and burnout with suicidal ideation (p < 0.05). The high prevalence of bullying, burnout, suicidal ideation, and their association indicate an unsafe workplace for the nurses. Initiatives are needed to make a favorable work environment to improve nurses' overall mental health and reduce suicide ideation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Knowing the risk factors like smoking status, overweight/obesity, and hypertension among women of reproductive age could allow the development of an effective strategy for reducing the burden of non-noncommunicable diseases. We sought to determine the prevalence and determinants of smoking status, overweight/obesity, hypertension, and cluster of these non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors among Bangladeshi women of reproductive age. METHODS This study utilized the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) data from 2017-2018 and analyzed 5,624 women of reproductive age (age 18-49 years). This nationally representative cross-sectional survey utilized a stratified, two-stage sample of households. Poisson regression models with robust error variance were fitted to find the adjusted prevalence ratio (APR) for smoking, overweight/obesity, hypertension, and for the clustering of non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors across demographic variables. RESULTS The average age of 5,624 participants was 31 years (SD = 9.1). The prevalence of smoking, overweight/obesity, and hypertension was 9.6%, 31.6%, and 20.3%, respectively. More than one-third of the participants (34.6%) had one non-noncommunicable diseases risk factor, and 12.5% of participants had two non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors. Age, education, wealth index, and geographic location were significantly associated with smoking status, overweight/obesity, and hypertension. Women between 40-49 years had more non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors than 18-29 years aged women (APR: 2.44; 95% CI: 2.22-2.68). Women with no education (APR: 1.15; 95% CI: 1.00-1.33), married (APR: 2.32; 95% CI: 1.78-3.04), and widowed/divorced (APR: 2.14; 95% CI: 1.59-2.89) were more likely to experience multiple non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors. Individuals in the Barishal division, a coastal region (APR: 1.44; 95% CI: 1.28-1.63) were living with a higher number of risk factors for non-noncommunicable diseases than those in the Dhaka division, the capital of the country. Women who belonged to the richest wealth quintile (APR: 1.82; 95% CI: 1.60-2.07) were more likely to have the risk factors of non-noncommunicable diseases. CONCLUSIONS The study showed that non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors are more prevalent among women from older age group, currently married and widowed/divorced group, and the wealthiest socio-economic group. Women with higher levels of education were more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and found to have less non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors. Overall, the prevalence and determinants of non-noncommunicable diseases risk factors among reproductive women in Bangladesh highlight the need for targeted public health interventions to increase opportunities for physical activity and reduce the use of tobacco, especially the need for immediate interventions in the coastal region.

Abstract
Conserving the lives of newborns has been a long-standing issue around the world, where 2.4 million babies die in the first month of the life. The literature indicates that the important challenges of social development goals around the globe include affordable and easy access to electricity, promotion of sustainable economic development, and provision of better social services and creation of job opportunities which help in reducing infant mortality rate. This calls for the need to probe into this matter minutely and brings up the ways for reducing the infant mortality rate. The present study is an attempt to analyze the impact of rural and urban electrification and biomass energy consumption on infant mortality rate for the period 1990-2020 using the Panel Quantile Regression (PQR) approach. The results of the study show that in both developed and developing countries, biomass energy consumption has positive impact on infant mortality rate, while rural and urban electrification has proposed the inverted U-shaped relationship with infant mortality in different quantile groups. It is also concluded that few developing countries are failed to achieve the maturity of the inverted U-shaped curve while all developed countries have achieved at the maturity stage. This study recommended that for reducing the infant mortality rate, the world should discourage the use of biomass energy and promote the affordable and easy access to electricity on priority basis.

Abstract
Recently, a growing number of epidemiological studies have examined the relationship between household air pollution (HAP) and all-cause and cause-specific mortality. While the results were not entirely consistent, the current study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol to conduct a comprehensive review and meta-analysis. Data sources were PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library for studies published up to 12 May 2022. The pooled relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to estimate the effect of household air pollution on all-cause and cause-special mortality. Then I square value (I2) was used to assess heterogeneity, and random-effects model was used as the pooling method. Seventeen studies were included in the quantitative analysis. Our results showed a significant association between household air pollution and increased risks of all-cause mortality (RR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.06-1.19) and cardiovascular disease mortality (RR = 1.13, 95% CI = 1.04-1.24). Similarly, the associations between household air pollution and mortality from other specific causes (respiratory, ischemic heart disease, stroke, and total cancer) were positive, although they were not statistically significant. The study suggests that exposure to household air pollution increases the risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality. In addition, our results found a trend of increased mortality from the respiratory system, ischemic heart disease, stroke, and total cancer, with household air pollution.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate burnout among Bangladeshi nurses and the factors that influence it, particularly the association of workplace bullying (WPB) and workplace violence (WPV) with burnout. Methods: This cross-sectional study collected data from 1,264 Bangladeshi nurses. Mixed-effects Poisson regression models were fitted to find the adjusted association between WPB, WPV, and burnout. Results: Burnout was found to be prevalent in 54.19% of 1,264 nurses. 61.79% of nurses reported that they had been bullied, and 16.3% of nurses reported experience of “intermediate and high” levels of workplace violence in the previous year. Nurses who were exposed to “high risk bullying” (RR = 2.29, CI: 1.53–3.41) and “targeted bullying” (RR = 4.86, CI: 3.32–7.11) had a higher risk of burnout than those who were not. Similarly, WPV exposed groups at “intermediate and high” levels had a higher risk of burnout (RR = 3.65, CI: 2.40–5.56) than WPV non-exposed groups. Conclusion: Nurses’ burnout could be decreased if issues like violence and bullying were addressed in the workplace. Hospital administrators, policymakers, and the government must all promote and implement an acceptable working environment.
