Abstract
A novel 8-hydroxy quinoline-derived amide receptor, in conjunction with its Cu (II) and Zn (II) complexes, has been strategically developed to function as remarkably efficient fluorescent receptors with a distinct capability for anion sensing. The comprehensive characterization of the synthesized compounds were achieved through UV-Vis, IR, NMR, and HRMS spectroscopic techniques. Among the Cu (II) and Zn (II) complexes, the latter exhibits superior selectivity for anions, specifically dihydrogen phosphate and hydrogen sulfate, as their tetrabutylammonium salts in a 9:1 acetonitrile-water (v/v) mixture. The Cu (II) complex demonstrates enhanced anion binding compared to the amide ligand, albeit with reduced selectivity. Furthermore, the affinity was evaluated using the Benesi-Hildebrand plot. The binding constants and Limit of Detection (LOD) for both complexes were precisely quantified. The Job plot illustrates a clear 1:1 binding interaction between the metal complexes and the guest anions. Significantly, both metal-complex receptors display a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is worth highlighting that the Zn (II) complexed receptor outperforms the Cu (II) complexed receptor, as evidenced by its considerably lower Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value against both bacterial strains.

Abstract
Protic pyrazoles (N-unsubstituted pyrazoles) have been versatile ligands in various fields, such as materials chemistry and homogeneous catalysis, owing to their proton-responsive nature. This review provides an overview of the reactivities of protic pyrazole complexes. The coordination chemistry of pincer-type 2,6-bis(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyridines is first surveyed as a class of compounds for which significant advances have made in the last decade. The stoichiometric reactivities of protic pyrazole complexes with inorganic nitrogenous compounds are then described, which possibly relates to the inorganic nitrogen cycle in nature. The last part of this article is devoted to outlining the catalytic application of protic pyrazole complexes, emphasizing the mechanistic aspect. The role of the NH group in the protic pyrazole ligand and resulting metal-ligand cooperation in these transformations are discussed.

Abstract
The sensing activity of naphthalene containing salicyl hydrazide-based fluorescence receptor has been improved through aggregation-induced enhanced emission mechanism approach in semi-aqueous medium. The receptor has been found to be selective toward La3+ with approximately 70-fold fluorescence enhancement due to a combined effect of keto-enol tautomerism inhibition and chelation enhanced fluorescence with a detection limit of 3.91 × 10-6 M. In addition, the receptor is also able to sense CN- with a detection limit of 3.55 × 10-6 M via deprotonation effect, justifying its multiple analyte sensing behaviour. Hence, the current analytical methodology improves the sensing activity of the probe and also provides a greener alternative for La3+ and CN- detection.

Abstract
Bis-(diethyl-dithioxamidate)platinum(ii) is able to transport HCl from the donor aqueous phase to the receiving one over a mean distance of 12 cm in about 3 minutes across an organic membrane in the bulk, without stirring of the organic phase, i.e. at a rate far exceeding the unidirectional macroscopic diffusion coefficient. The way in which this surprising phenomenon can happen is linked to the behaviour of HCl which, because of dynamic interactions with [Pt(HEt2C2N2S2)2] (in which HCl is hosted as a tight ion pair [Pt(H2Et2C2N2S2)2][Cl]2) and chloroform molecules, gives rise to observable nanometric and micrometric domains, more dense than the surrounding bulk, whose formation and disaggregation processes accelerate the unidirectional macroscopic diffusion of HCl. Thermodynamic parameters obtained from the study of acid-base behaviour of the system Pt(ii) species/HCl/CHCl3 also agree with the proposed mechanism of HCl transport.

Abstract
Boron-cross-linked cobalt(II) pseudoclathrochelate was obtained by the template reaction of 2-acetylpyrazoloxime, phenylboronic acid, and a new DMF cobalt(II) solvato complex with a decachloro-closo-decaborate dianion. As confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, this complex crystallizes with two symmetry-independent cobalt(II) pseudoclathrochelate cations, one decachloro-closo-decaborate dianion, one benzene, one dichloromethane solvent molecule, and two molecules of DMF. The latter act as pseudocapping fragments to the monocapped tris-pyrazoloximate ligands by forming N-H···O hydrogen bonds with their pyrazole groups. The CoIIN6-coordination polyhedra adopt a nearly ideal TP geometry with distortion angles φ equal to 1.22(16) and 2.58(17)° for two symmetry-independent pseudoclathrochelate cations, both containing the encapsulated cobalt(II) ion in its high-spin state (Co-N 2.115(4)-2.198(3) Å). Magnetic properties of this complex were studied both by dc-magnetometry and by solution-state NMR spectroscopy to reveal a high magnetic anisotropy, thus suggesting a large magnetic susceptibility tensor anisotropy (25.8 × 10-32 m3 at 298 K) and a large negative zero-field splitting energy (-85 cm-1). The results of magnetometry studies in the ac magnetic field suggest a single molecule magnet behavior of this TP complex with an effective magnetization reversal barrier of approximately 130 cm-1. Its pseudocapping DMF molecules that form H-bonds with tris-pyrazoloximate fragments are easy to substitute by strong H-bond acceptors, such as chloride ions and di- and tetramethylureas, thus affecting the magnetic properties of a whole pseudomacrobicyclic paramagnetic system.

Abstract
In this paper, we formulate a field-theoretical model of dilute salt solutions of electrically neutral spherical colloid particles. Each colloid particle consists of a 'central' charge that is situated at the center and compensating peripheral charges (grafted to it) that are fixed or fluctuating relative to the central charge. In the framework of the random phase approximation, we obtain a general expression for electrostatic free energy of solution and analyze it for different limiting cases. In the limit of infinite number of peripheral charges, when they can be modelled as a continual charged cloud, we obtain an asymptotic behavior of the electrostatic potential of a point-like test charge in a salt colloid solution at long distances, demonstrating the crossover from its monotonic decrease to damped oscillations with a certain wavelength. We show that the obtained crossover is determined by certain Fisher-Widom line. For the same limiting case, we obtain an analytical expression for the electrostatic free energy of a salt-free solution. In the case of nonzero salt concentration, we obtain analytical relations for the electrostatic free energy in two limiting regimes. Namely, when the ionic concentration is much higher than the colloid concentration and the effective size of charge cloud is much bigger than the screening lengths that are attributed to the salt ions and the central charges of colloid particles. The proposed theory could be useful for theoretical description of the phase behavior of salt solutions of metal-organic complexes and polymeric stars.

Abstract
This study was conducted to further understand the mechanism that controls myoblast differentiation, a key step in skeletal muscle formation. RNA sequencing of primary bovine myoblasts revealed many genes encoding the ubiquitin-proteasome system were up-regulated during myoblast differentiation. This up-regulation was accompanied by increased proteasomal activity. Treating myoblasts with the proteasome-specific inhibitor lactacystin impeded myoblast differentiation. Adenovirus-mediated overexpression of inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) protein inhibited myoblast differentiation too. Further experiments were conducted to determine whether the proteasome promotes myoblast differentiation by degrading ID1 protein. Both ID1 protein and mRNA expression decreased during myoblast differentiation. However, treating myoblasts with lactacystin reversed the decrease in ID1 protein but not in ID1 mRNA expression. Surprisingly, this reversal was not observed when myoblasts were also treated with the mRNA translation inhibitor cycloheximide. Direct incubation of ID1 protein with proteasomes from myoblasts did not show differentiation stage-associated degradation of ID1 protein. Furthermore, ubiquitinated ID1 protein was not detected in lactacystin-treated myoblasts. Overall, the results of this study suggest that, during myoblast differentiation, the proteasomal activity is up-regulated to further myoblast differentiation and that the increased proteasomal activity improves myoblast differentiation partly by inhibiting the synthesis, not the degradation, of ID1 protein.-Leng, X., Ji, X., Hou, Y., Settlage, R., Jiang, H. Abstract
A conjugated bis-terpyridine bridging ligand, 2-(4-(2,6-di(pyridin-2-yl)pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-6-(2-(4-(2,6-di(pyridin-2-yl)pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-6-yl)-1H-benzo[d] imidazole (tpy-BPhBzimH2-tpy), was designed in this work by covalent coupling of 3,3'-diaminobenzidine and two 4'-(p-formylphenyl)-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine units to synthesize a new series of bimetallic Ru(II)-terpyridine light-harvesting complexes. Photophysical and electrochemical properties were modulated by the variation of the terminal ligands in the complexes. The new compounds were thoroughly characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. Absorption spectra of the complexes consist of very strong ligand-centered π-π* and n-π* transitions in the UV, metal-to-ligand, and intraligand charge transfer bands in the visible regions. Steady-state and time-resolved emission spectral measurements indicate that the complexes exhibit moderately intense luminescence at room temperature within the spectral domain of 653-687 nm having luminescence lifetimes in the range between 6.3 and 55.2 ns, depending upon terminal tridentate ligand and solvent. Variable-temperature luminescence measurements suggest substantial increase of the energy gap between luminescent 3metal-to-ligand charge transfer state and nonluminescent 3metal centered in the complexes compared to the parent [Ru(tpy)2]2+. Each of the three bimetallic complexes exhibits only one reversible couple in the positive potential window with almost no detectable splitting corresponding to simultaneous oxidation of the two remote Ru centers. All the complexes possess a number of imidazole NH protons, which became sufficiently acidic upon metal ion coordination. By utilizing these NH protons, we thoroughly studied anion recognition properties of the complexes in pure organic as well as predominantly aqueous media through multiple optical channels and spectroscopic methods. Finally computation investigations employing density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT were done to examine the electronic structures of the complexes and accurate assignment of experimentally observed optical spectral bands.

Abstract
A colorimetric receptor R 2-[(2-Hydroxy-naphthalen-1-ylmethylene)-hydrazonomethyl]-quinolin-8-ol has been designed and synthesized with good yield and characterized by the standard spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV-Visible, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and ESI-MS. The receptor R showed naked-eye detection and spectral change in the presence of F-, AcO- and H2PO4- over other anions. Interestingly, receptor R displaying high selective recognition towards F-, AcO- ion with a drastic color change from pale yellow to red in dry DMSO solvent and orange in mixed solvent DMSO/H2O (9:1, v/v). The behavior of receptor R towards F-, AcO- ion was investigated using UV-Vis and 1H NMR experiment. The detailed 1H NMR experiment result revealed that the receptor R is forming the hydrogen bonding between imine nitrogen and phenolic OH proton towards anions. The receptor R is able to detect sodium salts of flouride (NaF) and acetate (NaAcO) in aqueous medium and it exhibited dramatic color change from pale yellow to red. The receptor R demonstrated itself to be useful for real life application by detecting flouride and acetate ion in sea-water and commercially available product such as toothpaste, mouthwash and vinegar solution.

Abstract
In this work we report synthesis and characterization of three rigid and linear rodlike monometallic Ru(II) complexes based on a terpyridine ligand tightly connected to 9,10-anthraquinone electron-acceptor unit through phenyl-imidazole spacer. The motivation of designing these complexes is to enhance their excited-state lifetimes at room temperature. Interestingly it is found that all three complexes exhibit luminescence at room temperature with excited-state lifetimes in the range of 1.6-52.8 ns, depending upon the coligand as well as the solvent. Temperature-dependent luminescence investigations indicate that the energy gap between the emitting 3MLCT state and nonemitting metal-centered state 3MC in the complexes increased enormously compared with parent [Ru(tpy)2]2+. In addition, by taking advantage of the imidazole NH proton(s), which became appreciably acidic upon combined effect of electron accepting anthraquinone moiety as well as metal ion coordination, we also examined anion recognition and sensing behaviors of the complexes in organic, mixed aqueous-organic as well as in solid medium through different optical channels such as absorption, steady-state and time-resolved emission, and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques. In conjunction with the experiment, computational investigation was also employed to examine the electronic structures of the complexes and accurate assignment of experimentally observed spectral and redox behaviors.

Abstract
Abstract
Calix[4]arene-thiourea and -tetraamide naked-eye receptors do not show any tendency to self-aggregation and are highly sensitive towards small monoanions; association constants in DMSO for halogenides (chloride to iodide) and HSO4
– are <200 m
–1. Basic anions deprotonate both receptors leading to a high and selective optical readout. Binding constants for carboxylates, fluoride, and dihydrogen phosphate are three orders of magnitude higher (~105
m
–1) in case of the tetrathiourea receptor.

Abstract
The ligand 2,6-bis[(N-phenyl)amido]-4-methylphenol (receptor 1) and its copper(II) complex (receptor 2) having amide moiety have been designed and synthesized for selective sensing of anions. The anion recognition behavior of the receptor 1 and its copper complex (receptor 2) has been studied in acetonitrile. Quenching of fluorescence was observed for both receptors in presence of HSO4(-) anion whereas other physiologically and environmentally important anions such as F(-), Cl(-), Br(-), I(-), CN(-), OAc(-), HCO₃(-), H₂PO₄(-), NO₃(-), NO₂(-) and SO₄(2-) show fluorescence enhancement behavior. The sensing protocol has been studied both spectrophotometrically as well as spectrofluorometrically. Fluorescence quenching is suggested to proceed via both dynamic and static processes.

Abstract
We describe the distinct receptor behaviour of a neutral chiral Cu(ii) complex in dimethylsulfoxide or methanol towards anions, such as F(-), Cl(-), Br(-), I(-) or OAc(-), where F(-) and OAc(-) show the most colorimetric change, through various spectroscopic techniques. Further insights into this at the molecular level come from the single crystal X-ray structures of both dimethylsulfoxide and methanol solvates which show a solvent effect on their supramolecular network formation. Both chromogenic and fluorogenic sensing of the anions indicate a 2 : 1 receptor-anion formation via anion-π as well as hydrogen bonding interactions.

Abstract
The synthesis and anion binding properties of novel halogen-bonding (XB) bis-iodotriazole-pyridinium-containing acyclic and [2]catenane anion host systems are described. The XB acyclic receptor displays selectivity for acetate over halides with enhanced anion recognition properties compared to the analogous hydrogen-bonding (HB) acyclic receptor. A reversal in halide selectivity is observed in the XB [2]catenane, in comparison to the acyclic XB receptor, due to the interlocked host's unique three-dimensional binding cavity, and no binding is observed for oxoanions. Notable halide anion association constant values determined for the [2]catenane in competitive organic-aqueous solvent mixtures demonstrate considerable enhancement of anion recognition as compared to the HB catenane analogue. X-ray crystallographic analysis of a series of halide catenane complexes reveal strong XB interactions in the solid state. These interactions were studied using Cl and Br K-edge X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) indicating intense pre-edge features characteristic of charge transfer from the halide to its bonding partner (σ(AX←X(-))(*) ← X1s), and providing a direct measure of the degree of covalency in the halogen bond(s). The data reveal that the degree of covalency is similar to that which is observed in transition metal coordinate covalent bonds. These results are supported by DFT results, which correlate well with the experimental data.

Abstract
An anionic molecular cobalt vanadium oxide cluster, (n-Bu4N)3[Co(AcO)V4O12] and its use as anion binding site is reported. Cluster formation is controlled by an anion-dependent dynamic solution equilibrium. Reversible anion binding in solution leads to significant spectral changes, allowing the ratiometric optical detection of the anion concentration in situ, even under harsh thermal conditions (T = 90 °C). Comparative studies showed that the spectral response is dependent on the type of anion so that carboxylates, weakly coordinating anions and halides can be distinguished.

Abstract
The synthesis and anion binding properties of the first rotaxane host system to bind and sense anions purely through halogen bonding, is described. Through a combination of polarized iodotriazole and iodotriazolium halogen bond donors, a three-dimensional cavity is created for anion binding. This rotaxane incorporates a luminescent rhenium(I) bipyridyl metal sensor motif within the macrocycle component, thus enabling optical study of the anion binding properties. The rotaxane topology was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis, demonstrating halogen bonding between the electrophilic iodine atoms and chloride anions. In 50% H2O/CH3CN solvent mixtures the rotaxane host exhibits strong binding affinity and selectivity for chloride, bromide, and iodide over a range of oxoanions.

Abstract
A series of cationic binuclear (η(6)-cymene-Ru)2 complexes with N2S2-ligands were synthesized in 64% to 85% yield by reaction of [Ru(η(6)-cymene)Cl2]2 with bis-S,S'-(ortho-aminothiophenol)-xylenes as BF4(-) and PF6(-) salts. The compounds were studied using NMR, HRMS, UV-vis and IR spectroscopy, EA and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) MS. It was determined that the hinged binuclear Ru complexes were anti and syn diastereomers obtained in 2 : 1 ratio for ortho- and meta-xylylene bridged ligands and in a 1 : 1 ratio for the para-xylylene bridged ligand. An anion effect was found for the presence of NaBF4 with the meta-xylylene bridged system yielding the targeted binuclear Ru complex and a mononuclear Ru complex. This mononuclear S,S'-coordinated η(6)-cymene Ru chloride structure lacked amine-metal coordination and was obtained in a 1 : 3 ratio of anti : syn diastereomers which were insoluble in CH2Cl2 and soluble in DMSO and DMF. X-ray crystallographic analysis was obtained for the N2S2 ligand, 1,2-bis{(2-aminophenyl)thiomethyl}benzene, showing a CS symmetry with amine groups facing outwards with a tilt of 28.95° from the ortho-aminothiophenol pendant ring. The interatomic sulfur-sulfur distance (S-S') is 4.6405 Å within the crystal structure while accommodating a potential metal bite angle from 1.0 Å to 5.9 Å when allowing rotation of the methylene phenyl bond.
