Abstract
Several biochemical reactions occur during the interaction of metal complexes and proteins due to conformational modifications in the structure of the protein, which provide fundamental knowledge of the effect, mechanism, and transport of many drugs throughout the body. Here, we report the synthesis, identification, and impact of the 3-dimensional Copper(II)sulfanilic acid coordination polymer (CP 1) on interactions with bovine serum albumin (BSA). The CP 1 was synthesized via a simple hot stirring method, and the single crystal XRD confirms the effective bonding interactions between metal and organic ligand, forming a crystalline polymeric chain and the topological study shows the sql type of underlying net topology. Powder XRD, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis were also performed. Moreover, DFT/B3LYP calculations provide chemical precision for the resulting complex. Further, the changes that occur in the secondary structure of protein when CP 1 binds with BSA as well as its binding capacity were investigated via circular dichroism analysis and spectroscopic methods such as UV-absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. The CP 1/BSA complex melting point was also measured, and its temperature-dependent heat denaturation was studied along with molecular docking.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Thiocarbazones are widely used as bioactive and pharmaceutical intermediates in medicinal chemistry and have been shown to exhibit diverse biological and pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-viral, anti-convulsant and anti-inflammatory etc. In continuation of our interest in biologically active heterocycles and in an attempt to synthesize a spiro derivative, 1,2,4,5-tetraazaspiro[5.7]tridecane-3-thione, herein, the synthesis of 1,5-dicyclooctyl thiocarbohydrazone (3) has been reported via reaction of the cyclooctanone and thiocarbohydrazide. The structure was assigned on the basis of detailed spectral analysis and also confirmed by X-ray crystal studies. The Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most significant interaction is S⋯H (12.7%). The presentation of mechanistic aspects regarding the plausible route of its formation has also been included. The first hyperpolarizability (β0) was found to be 10.22 × 10-30 esu, which indicates that the compound exhibits good non-linear optical properties. The density functional theory (DFT) method has been used to characterize the spectroscopic properties and vibrational analysis of 1,5-dicyclooctyl thiocarbohydrazone (3) theoretically. The compound and cisplatin (standard) were screened for their antiproliferative activity against the human cervical cancer cell line (SiHa) and they exhibited significant activity with IC50 values of 250 μM and 15 μM, respectively. The inhibitory nature of the title compound against viral oncoprotein E6 was confirmed by studies using molecular docking analysis. The results of biological activity and in silico analysis indicate that the synthesized molecule could act as a precursor for the synthesis of new heterocyclic derivatives of medicinal importance.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis of a Pb(II) based three-dimensional coordination polymer (3D CP), [Pb(DCTP)]n (1) [H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid] with an unprecedented topology, which exhibits a photomechanical effect wherein crystals show jumping upon UV irradiation. The Pb(II) CP forms a type II Cl⋯Cl interaction, which weakens further upon UV irradiation to resolve the anisotropic mechanical strain. The work presented here could be a beacon to the nascent field of photoactuating smart materials.

Abstract
We have successfully synthesized a new Ni(II)-based coordination polymer (CP) [Ni2(cis-1,4-chdc)2(4,4'-bpy)3(H2O)2] (1); (cis-1,4- H2chdc=cis-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid and 4,4'-bpy=4,4'-bipyridine) employing slow diffusion method in a single pot technique. The connectivity of Ni(II) ions and bridging cis-1,4-chdc ligand gives rise to a three-dimensional (3D) framework with 2-fold interpenetrated diamondoid topology. Interestingly, the synthesized CP acts as efficient catalyst for electrocatalytic water splitting. The water oxidation activity of compound 1 exhibits Tafel slope equivalent to 361.48 mV.dec-1 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and 353.53 mV.dec-1 for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium while almost similar values of Tafel slope for HER and OER equivalent to 287.33 mV.dec-1 and 289.93 mV.dec-1 respectively in acidic medium. Thus, the compound 1 has excellent efficacy in catalyzing HER and OER in acidic as well as alkaline medium, which is ascribed to its distinctive 3D architecture.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are versatile materials for a wide variety of potential applications. Tunable thermal expansion properties promote the application of MOFs in thermally sensitive composite materials; however, they are currently available only in a handful of structures. Herein, we report the first data set for thermal expansion properties of 33,131 diverse MOFs generated from molecular simulations and subsequently develop machine learning (ML) models to (1) classify different thermal expansion behaviors and (2) predict volumetric thermal expansion coefficients (αV). The random forest model trained on hybrid descriptors combining geometric, chemical, and topological features exhibits the best performance among different ML models. Based on feature importance analysis, linker chemistry and topological arrangement are revealed to have a dominant impact on thermal expansion. Furthermore, we identify common building blocks in MOFs with exceptional thermal expansion properties. This data-driven study is the first of its kind, not only constructing a useful data set to facilitate future studies on this important topic but also providing design guidelines for advancing new MOFs with desired thermal expansion properties.

Abstract
The structural exploration of three-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (3D COFs) is of great significance to the development of COF materials. Different from structurally diverse MOFs, which have a variety of connectivity (3-24), now the valency of 3D COFs is limited to only 4, 6, and 8. Therefore, the exploration of organic building blocks with higher connectivity is a necessary path to broaden the scope of 3D COF structures. Herein, for the first time, we have designed and synthesized a 12-connected triptycene-based precursor (triptycene-12-CHO) with 12 symmetrical distributions of aldehyde groups, which is also the highest valency reported until now. Based on this unique 12-connected structure, we have successfully prepared a novel 3D COF with lnj topology (termed 3D-lnj-COF). The as-synthesized 3D COF exhibits honeycomb main pores and permanent porosity with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 1159.6 m2 g-1. This work not only provides a strategy for synthesizing precursors with a high connectivity but also provides inspiration for enriching the variety of 3D COFs.

Abstract
In modern industries, the aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds to achieve the value-added conversion of hydrocarbons requires high temperatures and pressures, which significantly increases energy consumption and capital investment. The development of a light-driven strategy, even under natural sunlight and ambient air, is therefore of great significance. Here we develop a series of hetero-motif molecular junction photocatalysts containing two bifunctional motifs. With these materials, the reduction of O2 and oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds can be effectively accomplished, thus realizing efficient aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds in e.g., toluene and ethylbenzene. Especially for ethylbenzene oxidation reactions, excellent catalytic capacity (861 mmol g cat-1) is observed. In addition to the direct oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds, CeBTTD-A can also be applied to other types of aerobic oxidation reactions highlighting their potential for industrial applications.

Abstract
Alkali metal-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with permanent porosity are scarce because of their high tendency to coordinate with solvents such as water. However, these MOFs are lightweight and bear gravimetric benefits for gas adsorption related applications. In this study, we present the successful construction of a microporous MOF, designated as HIAM-111, built solely on sodium ions by using an octacarboxylate linker. The structure of HIAM-111 is based on 8-connected Na4 clusters and exhibits a novel topology with an underlying 32,42,8-c net. Remarkably, HAM-111 possesses a robust and highly porous framework with a BET surface area of 1561 m2/g, significantly surpassing that of the previously reported Na-MOFs. Further investigations demonstrate that HIAM-111 is capable of separating C2H2/CO2 and purifying C2H4 directly from C2H4/C2H2/C2H6 with high adsorption capacities. The current work may shed light on the rational design of robust and porous MOFs based on alkali metals.

Abstract
Herein, metal-organic framework (MOF)-based adsorbents are designed with distinct hard and soft metal building units, namely, [Co2ICoII(PD)2(BP)] (Co_PD-BP) and [Cu2ICuII(PD)2(BP)] (Cu_PD-BP), where H2PD = pyrazine-1,4-diide-2,3-dicarboxylic acid and BP = 4,4'-bipyridine. The designed MOFs were characterized via spectral and SCXRD techniques, which confirm the mixed-valent states (+1 and +2) of the metal ions. Topological analysis revealed the rare ths and gwg topologies for Co MOF, while Cu-MOF exhibits a unique 8T21 topology in the 8-c net (point symbol for net: {424·64}). Moreover, severe environmental issues can be resolved by effectively removing heterocyclic organosulfur compounds from fuels via adsorptive desulfurization. Further, the developed MOFs were investigated for sulfur removal via adsorptive desulfurization from a model fuel consisting of dibenzothiophene (DBT), benzothiophene (BT), and thiophene (T) in the liquid phase using n-octane as a solvent. The findings revealed that Cu_PD-BP effectively removes the DBT with a removal efficiency of 86% at 300 ppm and an operating temperature of 25 °C, with a recyclability of up to four cycles. The adsorption kinetic analysis showed that the pseudo-first-order model could fit better with the experimental data indicating the physisorption process. Further, the studies revealed that adsorption capacity increased with the increasing initial DBT concentration with a remarkable capacity of 70.5 mg/g, and the adsorption process was well described by the Langmuir isotherm. The plausible reason behind the enhanced removal efficiency shown by Cu_PD-BP as compared to Co_PD-BP could be the soft-soft interactions between soft sulfur and soft Cu metal centers. Interestingly, density functional theory (DFT) studies were done in order to predict the mechanism of binding of thiophenic compounds with Cu_PD-BP, which further ascertained that along with other interactions, the S···π and S···Cu interactions predominate, resulting in a high uptake of DBT as compared to others. In essence, Cu_PD-BP turns out to be a promising adsorbent in the field of fuel desulfurization for the benefit of mankind.

Abstract
Topological analysis of crystal structures faces the problem of the `correct' or the `best' assignment of bonds to atoms, which is often ambiguous. A hierarchical scheme is used where any crystal structure is described as a set of topological representations, each of which corresponds to a particular assignment of bonds encoded by a periodic net. In this set, two limiting nets are distinguished, complete and skeletal, which contain, respectively, all possible bonds and the minimal number of bonds required to keep the structure periodicity. Special attention is paid to the skeletal net since it describes the connectivity of a crystal structure in the simplest way, thus enabling one to find unobvious relations between crystalline substances of different composition and architecture. The tools for the automated hierarchical topological analysis have been implemented in the program package ToposPro. Examples, which illustrate the advantages of such analysis, are considered for a number of classes of crystalline substances: elements, intermetallics, ionic and coordination compounds, and molecular crystals. General provisions of the application of the skeletal net concept are also discussed.

Abstract
Coordination polymers (CPs) have been widely proven as sacrificial electrode materials for energy storage applications because of their high porosity, specific surface area and tunable structural topology. In this work, a new 2D Cu(II)-based CP, formulated as [Cu2(btc)(μ-Cl)2(H2O)4]n (CP-1) (H3btc = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid), fabrication of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) and its composite (CuO@CP-1) were successfully synthesized using solvothermal, precipitation and mechanochemical grinding approaches. Single-crystal X-ray analysis authenticated a two-dimensional (2D) layered network of CP-1. Further, CP-1, CuO NPs and composite were characterized by diffraction (Powder-XRD), spectroscopic (FTIR), microscopic (SEM), and thermal (TGA) techniques. The porosity and surface behavior of CP-1 and the composite were demonstrated using BET analyzer. Topological simplification of CP-1 shows a 3-c connected hcb periodic net. The photocatalytic behavior of CP-1 was examined over methyl red (MR) dye in the presence of sunlight and showed a promising degradation efficiency of 96.80%. The electrochemical energy storage properties of CP-1, CuO NPs and composite were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) analysis under aqueous 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte. The electrochemical results show better charge storage performance of CP-1 with a specific capacitance of 602.25 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 current density by maintaining a retention of up to 84.51% after 5000 cycles at 10 A g-1 current density. Comparative electrochemical studies reveal that CP-1 is a promising electrode material for energy storage.

Abstract
Bifunctional N-donor carboxylate linkers generally afford dia and sql topology coordination networks of general formula ML2 that are based upon the MN2(CO2)2 molecular building block (MBB). Herein, we report on a new N-donor carboxylate linker, β-(3,4-pyridinedicarboximido)propionate (PyImPr), which afforded Cd(PyImPr)2via reaction of PyImPrH with Cd(acetate)2·2H2O. We observed that, depending upon whether Cd(PyImPr)2 was prepared by layering or solvothermal methods, 2D or 3D supramolecular isomers, respectively, of Cd(PyImPr)2 were isolated. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that both supramolecular isomers are comprised of the same carboxylate bridged rod building block, RBB. We were interested to determine if the ethylene moiety of PyImPr could enable structural flexibility. Indeed, open-to-closed structural transformations occurred upon solvent removal for both phases, but they were found to be irreversible. A survey of the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) was conducted to analyse the relative frequency of RBB topologies in related ML2 coordination networks in order to provide insight from a crystal engineering perspective.

Abstract
A novel approach is proposed for the description of possible reconstructive solid-state transformations, which is based on the analysis of topological properties of atomic periodic nets and relations between their subnets and supernets. The concept of a region of solid-state reaction that is the free space confined by a tile of the net tiling is introduced. These regions (tiles) form the reaction zone around a given atom A thus unambiguously determining the neighboring atoms that can interact with A during the transformation. The reaction zone is independent of the geometry of the crystal structure and is determined only by topological properties of the tiles. The proposed approach enables one to drastically decrease the number of trial structures when modeling phase transitions in solid state or generating new crystal substances. All crystal structures which are topologically similar to a given structure can be found by the analysis of its topological vicinity in the configuration space. Our approach predicts amorphization of the phase after the transition as well as possible single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations. This approach is applied to generate 72 new carbon allotropes from the initial experimentally determined crystalline carbon structures and to reveal four allotropes, whose hardness is close to diamond. Using the tiling model it is shown that three of them are structurally similar to other superhard carbon allotropes, M-carbon and W-carbon.

Abstract
An innovative [Cu(Hadp)2(Bimb)]n (KA@CP-S3) coordination polymer expands its dimensionality from a 1D chain to a 2D network. The topological analysis reveals that KA@CP-S3 has 2-connected uninodal 2D 2C1 topology. KA@CP-S3 has capable luminescent sensing for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitroaromatics, heavy metal ions, anions, disposed antibiotics (nitrofurantoin and tetracycline) and biomarkers. Intriguingly, KA@CP-S3 exhibits outstanding selective quenching of about 90.7% and 90.5% for the 125 mg dl-1 and 150 mg dl-1 strengths of sucrose, respectively, in aqueous solution along with other ranges in between. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of KA@CP-S3 for the potentially harmful organic dye Bromophenol Blue displays 95.4%, which is the highest among the 13 dyes that were evaluated.

Abstract
The study of phase formation in the U-Te-O systems with mono and divalent cations under high-temperature high-pressure (HT/HP) conditions has resulted in four new inorganic compounds: K2 [(UO2) (Te2O7)], Mg [(UO2) (TeO3)2], Sr [(UO2) (TeO3)2] and Sr [(UO2) (TeO5)]. Tellurium occurs as TeIV, TeV, and TeVI in these phases which demonstrate the high chemical flexibility of the system. Uranium VI) adopts a variety of coordinations, namely, UO6 in K2 [(UO2) (Te2O7), UO7 in Mg [(UO2) (TeO3)2] and Sr [(UO2) (TeO3)2], and UO8 in Sr [(UO2) (TeO5)]. The structure of K2 [(UO2) (Te2O7)] is featured with one dimensional (1D) [Te2O7]4- chains along the c-axis. The Te2O7 chains are further linked by UO6 polyhedra, forming the 3D [(UO2) (Te2O7)]2- anionic frameworks. In Mg [(UO2) (TeO3)2], TeO4 disphenoids share common corners with each other resulting in infinite 1D chains of [(TeO3)2]4- propagating along the a-axis. These chains link the uranyl bipyramids by edge sharing along two edges of the disphenoids, resulting in the 2D layered structure of [(UO2) (Te2O6)]2-. The structure of Sr [(UO2) (TeO3)2] is based on 1D chains of [(UO2) (TeO3)2]∞2− propagating into the c-axis. These chains are formed by edge-sharing uranyl bipyramids which are additionally fused together by two TeO4 disphenoids, which also share two edges. The 3D framework structure of Sr [(UO2) (TeO5)] is composed of 1D [TeO5]4− chains sharing edges with UO7 bipyramids. Three tunnels based on 6-Membered rings (MRs) are propagating along [001] [010] and [100] directions. The HT/HP synthetic conditions for the preparation of single crystalline samples and their structural aspects are discussed in this work.

Abstract
Porous molecular materials are constructed from molecules that assemble in the solid-state such that there are cavities or an interconnected pore network. It is challenging to control the assembly of these systems, as the interactions between the molecules are generally weak, and subtle changes in the molecular structure can lead to vastly different intermolecular interactions and subsequently different crystal packing arrangements. Similarly, the use of different solvents for crystallization, or the introduction of solvent vapour, can result in different polymorphs and pore networks being formed. It is difficult to uniquely describe the pore networks formed, and thus we analyse 1033 crystal structures of porous molecular systems to determine the underlying topology of their void spaces and potential guest diffusion networks. Material-agnostic topology definitions are applied. We use the underlying topological nets to examine whether it is possible to apply isoreticular design principles to porous molecular materials. Overall, our automatic analysis of a large dataset gives a general insight into the relationships between molecular topologies and the topological nets of their pore network. We show that while porous molecular systems tend to pack similarly to non-porous molecules, the topologies of their pore distributions resemble those of more prominent porous materials, such as metal-organic frameworks and covalent organic frameworks.

Abstract
Single crystals of the new metal-organic framework (MOF) In-adc (HHUD-4) were obtained through the reaction of linear acetylenedicarboxylic acid (H2adc) with In(NO3)3·xH2O as a racemic conglomerate in the chiral tetragonal space groups P4322 and P4122. Fundamentally different from other MOFs with linear linkers and trans-μ-OH-connected infinite {MO6} secondary building units as in the MIL-53-type, the linear adc2- linker leads to the formation of cis-μ-OH connected {InO6} polyhedra, which have otherwise only been found before for V-shaped ligands, as in CAU-10-H. A far-reaching implication of this finding is the possibility that trans-μ-OH/straight MIL-53-type MOFs will have polymorphs of CAU-10-H cis-μ-OH/helical topology and vice versa. HHUD-4 is a microporous MOF with a BET surface area of up to 940 m2 g-1 and a micropore volume of up to 0.39 cm3 g-1. Additionally, HHUD-4 features good adsorption uptakes of 3.77 mmol g-1 for CO2 and 1.25 mmol g-1 for CH4 at 273 K and 1 bar, respectively, and a high isosteric heat of adsorption of 11.4 kJ mol-1 for H2 with a maximum uptake of 6.36 mmol g-1 at 77 K and 1 bar. Vapor sorption experiments for water and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, cyclohexane and n-hexane yielded uptake values of 135, 269, 116 and 205 mg g-1, respectively, at 293 K. While HHUD-4 showed unremarkable results for water uptake and low stability for water, it exhibited good stability with steep VOC uptake steps at low relative pressures and a high selectivity of 17 for benzene/cyclohexane mixtures.

Abstract
The recent synthesis of single-layer Janus-type transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) raises the question of the existence of other possible 2D structures with an asymmetric out-of-plane structural configuration. In the present work, a theoretical search for new Janus structures having SMoSe and SVSe compositions is performed. A detailed crystal-chemical analysis of the predicted structures is carried out, and it is shown that some of the dynamically stable structures are characterized by crystal-chemical features that are unique among TMDs, including quadruple Mo—Mo bonds and covalent S—S and Se—Se bonds. It is also shown that Mo-bearing TMDs have a tendency to form strong Mo—Mo bonds with chains or isolated dimers of molybdenum atoms, while in the case of vanadium-containing TMDs this feature is not characteristic. Two predicted crystal structures, called 1M-SVSe and 1A′-SMoSe, are especially promising for experimental synthesis and practical applications owing to their dynamical stability and rather low value of enthalpy compared with known structures. The enthalpy of 1M-SVSe is 0.22 eV per formula unit lower than that of 1T-SVSe, while the enthalpy of 1A′-SMoSe is 0.12 eV per formula unit lower than the enthalpy of 1T-SMoSe. The performed topological analysis showed that the predicted structures are unique and do not have analogues in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database.

Abstract
Formation of highly interpenetrated frameworks is demonstrated. An interesting observation is the presence of very large adamantane-shaped cages in a single network, making these crystals new entries in the collection of diamondoid-type metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The frameworks were constructed by assembling tetrahedral pyridine ligands and copper dichloride. Currently, the networks' degree of interpenetration is among the highest reported and increases when the size of the ligand is increased. Highly interpenetrated frameworks typically have low surface contact areas. In contrast, in our systems, the voids take up to 63 % of the unit cell volume. The MOFs have chiral features but are formed from achiral components. The chirality is manifested by the coordination chemistry around the metal center, the structure of the helicoidal channels, and the motifs of the individual networks. Channels of both handednesses are present within the unit cells. This phenomenon shapes the walls of the channels, which are composed of 10, 16, or 32 chains correlated with the degree of interpenetration 10-, 16-, and 32-fold, respectively. By changing the distance between the center of the ligand and the coordination moieties, we succeeded in tuning the diameter of the channels. Relatively large channels were formed, having diameters up to 31.0 Å×14.8 Å.

Abstract
The metal–organic framework (MOF) [Zn(Isa-az-tmpz)]·~1–1.5 DMF with the novel T-shaped bifunctional linker 5-(2-(1,3,5-trimethyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)azo)isophthalate (Isa-az-tmpz) was obtained as a conglomerate of crystals with varying degrees of enantiomeric excess in the chiral tetragonal space groups P43212 or P41212. A topological analysis of the compound resulted in the rare 3,6T22-topology, deviating from the expected rtl-topology, which has been found before in pyrazolate-isophthalate-functionalized MOFs using the supramolecular building layer (SBL) approach. 3,6T22-[Zn(Isa-az-tmpz)]·~1–1.5 DMF is a potentially porous, three-dimensional structure with DMF molecules included in the corrugated channels along the a and b-axis of the as synthesized material. The small trigonal cross-section of about 6 × 4 Å (considering the van der Waals surface) prevents the access of N2 and Ar under cryogenic conditions. After activation, only smaller H2 (at 87 K) and CO2 (at 195 K) are allowed for gas uptakes of 2 mmol g–1 and 5.4 mmol g–1, respectively, in the ultramicroporous material, for which a BET surface area of 496 m2·g–1 was calculated from CO2 adsorption. Thermogravimetric analysis of the compound shows a thermal stability of up to 400 °C.

Abstract
Physical properties of objects depend on topological features of the corresponding triply periodic surfaces; thus topological exploration and classification of the surfaces has practical relevance. A general method is developed for generating triply periodic surfaces from triply periodic crystal structures. A triply periodic surface is derived from the natural tiling of a crystal network by an appropriate removal of some tile faces and subsequent smoothing of the resulting facet surface. The labyrinth nets of a generated triply periodic surface are built from the natural tiling, and in turn the topological parameters of the labyrinth nets are used to determine if the surface is isomorphic to a minimal surface. This method has been applied to all known 253 zeolite frameworks and 98 triply periodic surfaces were obtained, which belong to 55 topological types. Twelve surfaces were found to be isomorphic to already known triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs), while four surfaces can be treated as isomorphic to new TPMSs. A procedure has also been developed for transferring the generated surfaces to a 3D-printer-readable format.

Abstract
Abstract
In this chapter an overview is given in which way framework-like crystalline compounds can be regarded as nets, how a net is derived out of a particular crystal structure, what nets actually are, how they can be appropriately described, what the characteristics of nets are, and how this topological approach helps to categorize framework compounds. Finally the term reticular chemistry is explained and a number of examples are given how the topology-guided approach opens up new possibilities to intentionally develop new framework structures on a rational basis.

Abstract
Metalloproteins involved in oxidation-reduction processes in metabolism are fundamental for the wellbeing of every organism. The use of amino-acid-based compounds as ligands for the construction of biomimetic coordination systems represents a promising alternative for the development of new catalysts. Herein is presented a new family of copper, zinc and nickel coordination compounds, which show four-, five- and six- coordination geometries, synthesized using Schiff base ligands obtained from the amino acids L-alanine and L-phenylalanine. Structural analysis and property studies were performed using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, spectroscopic and electrochemical experiments and DFT calculations. The analysis of the molecular and supramolecular architectures showed that the non-covalent interactions developed in the systems, together with the identity of the metal and the amino acid backbone, are determinants for the formation of the complexes and the stabilization of the resultant geometries. The CuII complexes were tested as candidates for the electrochemical conversion reduction of nitrite to NO, finding that the five-coordinate L-phenylalanine complex is the most suitable. Finally, some insights into the rational design of ligands for the construction of biomimetic complexes are suggested.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) demonstrate strong potential for various important applications due to their well tunable structures and compositions through metal and organic linker engineering. As an effective approach, topology evolution by controlling linker conformation has received considerable attention, where solvents and acids have crucial effects on structural formation. However, a systematic study of such effects remains under investigated. Herein, we carried out a methodical study on the topology evolution in Zr-MOFs directed by solvothermal conditions with various combinations of three common solvents and six different acids. As a result, three Zr-MOFs with different topologies, scu (HIAM-4007), scp (HIAM-4008), and csq (HIAM-4009), were obtained using the same Zr6-cluster and tetratopic carboxylate linker, in which structure diversity shows significant influence on their corresponding photoluminescence quantum yields. Further experiments revealed that the acidity of acids and the basicity of solvents strongly influenced the linker conformation in the resultant MOFs, leading to the topology evolution. Such a solvent- and acid-assisted topology evolution represents a general approach that can be used with other tetratopic carboxylate linkers to realize structural diversity. The present work demonstrates an effective structure designing strategy by controlling synthetic conditions, which may prove to be powerful for customized synthesis of MOFs with specific structure and functionality.

Abstract
Here, we report a facile route to the synthesizing of a new donor–acceptor complex, L3, using 4-{[(anthracen-9-yl)meth-yl] amino}-benzoic acid, L2, as donor moiety with anthraquinone as an acceptor moiety. The formation of donor–acceptor complex L3 was facilitated via H-bonding and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray diffraction results confirmed the synthesized donor–acceptor complex L3 crystal belongs to the triclinic system possessing the P-1 space group. The complex L3 was also characterized by other spectral techniques, viz., FTIR and UV absorption spectroscopy, which confirmed the formation of new bonds between donor L2 moiety and acceptor anthraquinone molecule. The crystallinity and thermal stability of the newly synthesized complex L3 was confirmed by powdered XRD and TGA analysis and theoretical studies; Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to define the type of interactions occurring in the complex L3. Interestingly, theoretical results were successfully corroborated with experimental results of FTIR and UV absorption. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed for HOMO to LUMO; the energy gap (∆E) was calculated to be 3.6463 eV. The complex L3 was employed as a photocatalyst for the degradation of MB dye and was found to be quite efficient. The results showed MB dye degraded about 90% in 200 min and followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic with rate constant k = 0.0111 min−1 and R2 = 0.9596. Additionally, molecular docking reveals that the lowest binding energy was −10.8 Kcal/mol which indicates that the L3 complex may be further studied for its biological applications.

Abstract
This paper describes the design, synthesis, characterization, and performance of a novel semiconductive crystalline coordination network, synthesized using 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) ligands interconnected with bismuth ions, toward chemiresistive gas sensing. Bi(HHTP) exhibits two distinct structures upon hydration and dehydration of the pores within the network, Bi(HHTP)-α and Bi(HHTP)-β, respectively, both with unprecedented network topology (2,3-c and 3,4,4,5-c nodal net stoichiometry, respectively) and unique corrugated coordination geometries of HHTP molecules held together by bismuth ions, as revealed by a crystal structure resolved via microelectron diffraction (MicroED) (1.00 Å resolution). Good electrical conductivity (5.3 × 10-3 S·cm-1) promotes the utility of this material in the chemical sensing of gases (NH3 and NO) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs: acetone, ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol). The chemiresistive sensing of NO and NH3 using Bi(HHTP) exhibits limits of detection 0.15 and 0.29 parts per million (ppm), respectively, at low driving voltages (0.1-1.0 V) and operation at room temperature. This material is also capable of exhibiting unique and distinct responses to VOCs at ppm concentrations. Spectroscopic assessment via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic methods (i.e., attenuated total reflectance-infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transformed spectroscopy (DRIFTS)), suggests that the sensing mechanisms of Bi(HHTP) to VOCs, NO, and NH3 comprise a complex combination of steric, electronic, and protic properties of the targeted analytes.
