Abstract
Peritoneal adhesion typically occurs in applications such as abdominal, pelvic, and vascular surgery. It is necessary to develop a mechanical barrier to prevent adhesion. In this study, a novel biomaterial as a mechanical barrier is developed by combining polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), doped with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) to prevent peritoneal adhesion. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods reveal that POSS nanoparticles in the PVA matrix disrupted the intramolecular hydroxyl groups and structure of the crystal region. Electron microscopy (EM) images reveal that high concentrations of POSS (2 wt.%) cause irregular clustering in the composite matrix. As the concentration of POSS increases in the matrix, the degradation of the membranes increases, and protein adhesion decreases. In vitro cytotoxicity tests show a toxic effect on cells for PVA/CMC composite membranes, while on the other hand, the addition of POSS increases cell viability. According to the MMT test the POSS decreases cell adhesion of membranes. When comparing the POSS doped membrane to the undoped PVA/CMC membrane, an increase in the total antioxidant level and a decrease in the total oxidant level is observed.

Abstract
Octaalkoxy-substituted polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (8RO-POSS) is an attractive starting material for producing silicone resins. However, polymers derived from 8RO-POSS via the sol-gel process have seldom been reported owing to their synthetic difficulty. In this study, we attempted to use zinc acetate (Zn(OAc)2) as the catalyst for the synthesis of a series of 8RO-POSS from octahydrido-POSS (8H-POSS). The reaction conditions were optimized using heptaisobutyl monohydride-POSS (7iBu1H-POSS) as a model reaction. The desired product was obtained in 96% yield under optimized conditions. The alkoxylation of 8H-POSS was performed using methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), isopropyl alcohol (i-PrOH), and tert-butyl alcohol (t-BuOH) in the presence of Zn(OAc)2 as the catalyst. Although octamethoxy-POSS (8MeO-POSS) was isolated in the presence of a byproduct, octaethoxy-POSS (8EtO-POSS) and octaisopropoxy-POSS (8iPrO-POSS) were obtained in high yields. The degree of alkoxylation was 55% in the case of using t-BuOH. The structures of 8MeO-POSS, 8EtO-POSS, and 8iPrO-POSS were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-, and 29Si-NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS analyses. Compared to the random silicate obtained by base-treated tetramethoxysilane (TMOS), base-treated 8EtO-POSS and 8iPrO-POSS showed that the cage structures were maintained even after the formation of condensed silicate structures via a condensation reaction.

Abstract
Reticular chemistry effectively yields porous structures with distinct topological lattices for a broad range of applications. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based octatopic building blocks with a rare Oh symmetric configuration and attracting inorganic features have great potential for creating three-dimensional (3D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with new topologies. However, the intrinsic flexibility and intensive motion of cubane-type POSS molecules make the construction of 3D regular frameworks challenging. Herein, by fastening three or four POSS cores with per aromatic rigid linker from rational steric directions, we successfully developed serial crystalline 3D COFs with unpresented "the" and scu topologies. Both the experimental and theoretical results proved the formation of target 3D POSS-based COFs. The resultant hybrid networks with designable chemical skeletons and high surface areas maintain the superiorities of both the inorganic and organic components, such as their high compatibility with inorganic salts, abundant periodic electroactive sites, excellent thermal stability, and open multilevel nanochannels. Consequently, the polycubane COFs could serve as outstanding solid electrolytes with a high ionic conductivity of 1.23 × 10-4 S cm-1 and a lithium-ion transference number of 0.86 at room temperature. This work offers a pathway to generate ordered lattices with multiconnected flexible cube motifs and enrich the topologies of 3D COFs for potential applications.

Abstract
Non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) networks physically modified with octa(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyldimethylsiloxy)POSS (8OHPOSS, 0-10 wt%) were conditioned in environments of different relative humidities (up to 97%) to study water-polymer interactions. The equilibrium sorption isotherms are of Brunauer type III in a water activity range of 0-0.97 and are discussed in terms of the Guggenheim (GAB) sorption model. The study shows that the introduction of 8OHPOSS, even in a large amount (10 wt%), does not hinder the water affinity of the NIPU network despite the hydrophobic nature of POSS; this is attributable to the homogenous dispersion of POSS in the polymer matrix. The shift in the urethane-derived carbonyl bands toward lower wavenumbers with a simultaneous shift in the urethane N-H bending bands toward higher wavenumbers exposes the breakage of polymer-polymer hydrogen bonds upon water uptake due to the formation of stronger water-polymer hydrogen bonds. Upon water absorption, a notable decrease in the glass transition temperature (Tg) is observed for all studied materials. The progressive reduction in Tg with water uptake is driven by plasticization and slaving mechanisms. POSS moieties are thought to impact slaving indirectly by slightly affecting water uptake at very high hydration levels.

Abstract
Soluble polysilsesquioxane containing side-chain phthalimide groups (PSQ-PhI) was synthesized via a solvent- and catalyst-free hydrolytic polycondensation reaction using 2-[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione. The composition and structure of polysilsesquioxane was confirmed via 1H, 13C, and 29Si NMR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic light scattering, X-ray diffraction analysis, and elemental analysis. The synthesized silsesquioxane showed a monomodal molecular weight distribution. The average molecular weight of polysilsesquioxane is 11,200 Da, and the polydispersity index is 1.10. 29Si NMR analysis showed a half-peak width w1/2 3.1 ppm at δ -68.3, which corresponds to the PhI(CH2)3SiO3/2 unit and indicates an ordered structure in the polymer, with some defects caused by the presence of uncondensed silanol groups. PSQ-PhI showed good thermal stability (Td5% decomposition at 345 °C). The polysilsesquioxane-based coating was transparent in the visible region.

Abstract
Ladder-like poly(methacryloxypropyl)-silsesquioxanes (LPMASQ) are photocurable Si-based gels characterized by a double-stranded structure that ensures superior thermal stability and mechanical properties than common organic polymers. In this work, these attractive features were exploited to produce, in combination with alumina nanoparticles (NPs), both unmodified and functionalized with methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (MPTMS), LPMASQ/Al2O3 composites displaying remarkable thermal conductivity. Additionally, we combined LPMASQ with polybutadiene (PB) to produce hybrid nanocomposites with the addition of functionalized Al2O3 NPs. The materials underwent thermal stability, structural, and morphological evaluations via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Both blending PB with LPMASQ and surface functionalization of nanoparticles proved to be effective strategies for incorporating a higher ceramic filler amount in the matrices, resulting in significant increases in thermal conductivity. Specifically, a 113.6% increase in comparison to the bare matrix was achieved at relatively low filler content (11.2 vol%) in the presence of 40 wt% LPMASQ. Results highlight the potential of ladder-like silsesquioxanes in the field of thermally conductive polymers and their applications in heat dissipation for flexible electronic devices.

Abstract
In this work, the possibility of managing the rheological and mechanical parameters of composites based on PLA with the use of cubic structures of organofunctional spherosilicates was verified. To accurately observe the effect of various organosilicon modifier substitutions on changes in composites' properties, we synthesized and used monofunctional octasubstituted derivatives as reference systems. The OSS/PLA systems were tested with concentrations of 0.1-2.5% (w/w) using extrusion to obtain a filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm. The printed samples underwent comprehensive tests including microscopic (SEM-EDS, optical microscope), rheological, thermal (TG, DSC, HDT), mechanical (impact and strength) as well as water contact angle tests. The work is interdisciplinary in nature and combines elements of organosilicon synthesis, materials engineering, and materials processing and characterization technology.

Abstract
This paper describes the author's recent work on the preparation and properties of thermally stable ionic liquids (ILs) containing siloxane frameworks. Quaternary ammonium and imidazolium salt-type ILs containing random oligosilsesquioxane frameworks were successfully prepared via the hydrolytic condensation of the corresponding organotrialkoxysilanes by using an aqueous superacid bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (HNTf2 ) solution as a catalyst and solvent. Imidazolium salt-type ILs containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) frameworks were also prepared through a reaction similar to that described above by using a water/methanol mixed solution of HNTf2 . In addition, amorphous POSSs with two types of ionic groups randomly distributed in the side chain were prepared. These POSSs were ILs exhibiting fluidity at relatively low temperatures. Furthermore, imidazolium and ammonium salt-type ILs containing cyclic oligosiloxane frameworks were prepared through a reaction similar to that of the corresponding organodialkoxysilanes. The thermal decomposition temperatures of the above ILs containing siloxane frameworks were higher than those of general ILs.

Abstract
Molecular granular materials (MGMs) are constructed with sub-nanoscale molecular clusters (MCs) as the building units and they have recently been observed to possess enriched functionalities distinct from granular materials of colloid nanoparticles. Herein, the birth and recent research advances in MGMs are summarized with the topics covering the precise synthesis of MC assemblies with target topologies, the hierarchical relaxation dynamics and tuneable viscoelasticity, impact-resistant capacity, and proton conductivity performance. The extremely small size of MC renders them two features: bulk diffusive dynamics with energy scale close to thermal fluctuation energy and the dominant volume fraction of surface structures. This finally leads to the hierarchical relaxation dynamics and broadly tuneable viscoelasticity of MGMs although the structural units are with small sizes and low Mw . Therefore, MGMs have been applied as impact resistant materials and proton conductors for the highly tuneable relaxation dynamics.

Abstract
The catalyst-free hydrolytic polycondensation of methyltrimethoxysilane under microwave radiation has been studied. The effect of molar ratios of the reagents (MTMS/H2O = 1/0.5-1/9), radiation power (20-300 W), temperature (30-50 °C) and duration of exposure (2.5-90 min) on the course of the process is considered. It has been shown that the use of microwave radiation promotes the activation of the process, and almost complete conversion of the monomer can be achieved in 5 min at 30 °C, 20 W and an MTMS/H2O ratio of 1/3. The optimal radiation power for the maximum conversion of the monomer and MeO-groups is in the range from 20 to 100 W. An increase in the water amount, the duration and temperature of the process contribute to an increase in the monomer conversion, a decrease in the content of residual MeO-groups and the yield of non-volatile oligomethylsilsesquioxanes. The limits of this approach using to the synthesis of multifunctional branched polyorganosilsesquioxanes are determined. Depending on the process conditions, homogeneous water-alcohol solutions of oligomethylsilsesquioxane with a concentration of 20 to 50 wt.% can be obtained. The OH-group content and the molecular weight of the obtained oligomers vary from 10 to 30 wt.% and from 1000 to 600 Da, respectively.

Abstract
The presented work is a continuation of research on the reactivity of unsaturated borasilsesquioxanes under the conditions of common organometallic transformations. The catalytic hydrosilylation reaction with silanes, siloxanes and silsesquioxanes in presence of platinum catalyst was explored. The majority of the products were obtained in high yields (>90 %) and their structures were confirmed and characterized by spectroscopy and spectrometry, i. e. NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS. The most significant segment of the work is research on the spontaneous redistribution reaction of the alkoxy group from silane to borane moiety occurring in the obtained products, not being limited to the heterosilsesquioxane chemistry, however. The products were confirmed using GC-MS, ESI-MS methods and B3LYP exchange-correlation, in order to ascertain formation of the silicon-boron hybrid molecule.

Abstract
In this study, a series of cage siloxanes (CS), e.g., three polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (SSQs) and one spherosilicate (SS) derivative, were applied as functional additives for the preparation of poly(lactic acid)-based (PLA) nanofibrillar membranes with an electrospinning technique utilizing an efficient spinning wire electrode setup. The impact of the additives’ structure, chemistry, and electrospinning parameters on the obtained materials’ morphology (scanning electron microscopy) and physicochemical (thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, contact angle analysis, air flow analysis) properties is discussed. It is presented that applying organosilicon additives may extend the already tuneable properties of the membranes produced by electrospinning performed under different conditions and that they enable to obtain nanofibres of smaller diameter, which in turn increases the membrane porosity. Furthermore, the solvent-assisted electrospinning method allowed for unparalleled mixing of the PLA matrix with the CS additives, as no traces of free additives were visible on the membranes by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging. The resulting membranes can be utilized as filter materials.

Abstract
This article presents the synthesis of new derivatives of octa(3-thiopropyl)silsesquioxane (SSQ-8SH) via thiol-ene reaction with simple olefins bearing alkyl groups as well as methoxysilyl, substituted aryl or fluoroalkyl groups. All products were characterized by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, 29 Si NMR, FTIR, GPC, MALDI-TOF-MS, as well as thermal analysis (TGA) to confirm their structures, purity and thermal stability, and finally give some insight into their thermal degradation pathway. In some of the structures obtained, the T5% values take place at high temperatures and are close to 230 °C. The thiol-ene reaction allowed to obtain 7 new compounds with high yield (>92 %), no by-products and in a relatively short time (24 h). All products are characterized by high conversion >99 %. New derivatives can find potential use as modifiers of plastics to improve their certain properties for example hydrophobicity or thermo-oxidative stability.

High-Performance Properties of an Aerospace Epoxy Resin Loaded with Carbon Nanofibers and Glycidyl Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane. AEROSPACE 2022. Abstract
This paper proposes a new multifunctional flame retardant carbon nanofiber/glycidyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (GPOSS) epoxy formulation specially designed for lightweight composite materials capable of fulfilling the ever-changing demands of the future aerospace industry. The multifunctional resin was designed to satisfy structural and functional requirements. In particular, this paper explores the advantages deriving from the combined use of GPOSS and CNFs (short carbon nanofibers) to obtain multifunctional resins. The multifunctional material was prepared by incorporating in the epoxy matrix heat-treated carbon nanofibers (CNFs) at the percentage of 0.5 wt% and GPOSS compound at 5 wt% in order to increase the mechanical performance, electrical conductivity, thermal stability and flame resistance property of the resulting nanocomposite. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) shows that the values of the Storage Modulus (S.M.) of the resin alone and the resin containing solubilized GPOSS nanocages are almost similar in a wide range of temperatures (from 30 °C to 165 °C). The presence of CNFs, in the percentage of 0.5 wt%, determines an enhancement in the S.M. of 700 MPa from −30 °C to 180 °C with respect to the resin matrix and the resin/GPOSS systems. Hence, a value higher than 2700 MPa is detected from 30 °C to 110 °C. Furthermore, the electrical conductivity of the sample containing both GPOSS and CNFs reaches the value of 1.35 × 10−1 S/m, which is a very satisfying value to contrast the electrical insulating property of the epoxy systems. For the first time, TUNA tests have been performed on the formulation where the advantages of GPOSS and CNFs are combined. TUNA investigation highlights an electrically conductive network well distributed in the sample. The ignition time of the multifunctional nanocomposite is higher than that of the sample containing GPOSS alone of about 35%.

Abstract
A hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) imprinted coating based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) for open tubular electrochromatography was prepared. The mixture of methacryl-POSS (MA0735), HP-β-CD (template), methacrylic acid (MAA, monomer), N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA, crosslinker) and toluene-dimethyl sulfoxide (porogen) was used to synthesize the chiral selective coating. The influence of synthesis parameters on the imprinting effect and separation performance, including the amount of HP-β-CD, POSS, and MAA, was investigated systemically. The optimum polymerization was prepared by mixing HP-β-CD, MA0735, MAA, and MBA with the molar ratio of 1 : 1.87 : 1.60 : 1.60. Five racemates were separated by the modified capillary columns using aqueous buffer. Column efficiency on the POSS-based MIPs coating column was greater than 22 000 plates/m. MIPs-POSS hybrid coating capillaries had improved resolution (3.36 times) and the greatest resolution was up to 6.15 within 10 min.

Abstract
In this review, we describe recent progresses on the stimuli-responsive hybrid materials based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and their applications as a chemical sensor. In particular, we explain the unique functions originating from molecular assembly concerning POSS-containing soft materials mainly from our studies. POSS has an inorganic cubic core composed of silicon-oxygen (Si-O) bonds and organic substituents at each vertex. Owing to intrinsic properties of POSS, such as high thermal stability, rigidity, and low chemical reactivity, various robust hybrid materials have been developed. From the numerous numbers of POSS hybrids, we herein focus on the environment-sensitive optical materials in which molecular assembly of POSS itself and functional units connected to POSS should be a key factor for expressing material properties. We also explain the mechanisms of chemical sensors originating from these stimuli-responsive optical properties. Stimuli-responsive excimer emission and pollutant detectors, nanoplastic sensors with the water-dispersive POSS networks, trans fatty acid sensors, turn-on luminescent sensors for aerobic condition and fluoride anion sensors are described. We also mention the mechanochromic polyurethane hybrids and the thermally-durable mechanochromic luminescent materials. The roles of the unique optical properties from soft materials composed of rigid POSS, which doesn't have significant light-absorption and emission properties in the visible region, are surveyed.

Abstract
Compounds of the silsesquioxane type are attractive material precursors. High molecular weights and well-defined structures predestine them to create ceramics with a controlled composition at the molecular level. New molecular precursors of ceramic materials with the ratio of Si:Ge = 7:1 atoms were obtained. The influence of organic substituents on the thermal decomposition processes of germasilsesquioxanes was investigated. Some of the structures obtained are characterized by a high non-volatile residue after the thermal decomposition process. The introduction of the germanium atom to the structure of the silsesquioxane molecular cage reduces the thermal stability of the obtained structures.

Abstract
Giant amphiphiles containing azobenzene and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) units are synthesized by linking 4,4'-azodianiline (ADA) and POSS derivatives by stepwise amidation and further modification. The synthesized giant amphiphiles are photoresponsive and show trans-cis isomerization under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. These giant amphiphiles are spread on the air-water interface and compressed by the barrier without and under UV irradiation. By compression, the giant amphiphiles undergo a phase transition from gas (G), liquid expanded (LE), liquid condensed (LC), and solid (S) to a final collapse on the water surface. The giant amphiphiles are cis-isomer-rich under UV irradiation and are trans-isomer-rich without UV irradiation. The trans-isomers are straight-shaped, while the cis-isomers are bent, and hence, their phase transition behaviors on the water surface exhibit a distinct difference.

Abstract
Fluorinated motifs are promising for the engineering of repellent coatings, however, a fundamental understanding of how to effectively bind these motifs to various substrates is required to improve their stability in different use scenarios. Herein, the binding of fluorinated polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) using a cyanoacrylate glue (binder) is computationally and experimentally evaluated. The composite POSS-binder coatings display ultralow surface energy (≈10 mJ m-2 ), while still having large surface adhesions to substrates (300-400 nN), highlighting that super-repellent coatings (contact angles >150°) can be readily generated with this composite approach. Importantly, the coatings show super-repellency to both corrosive liquids (e.g., 98 wt% H2 SO4 ) and ultralow surface tension liquids (e.g., alcohols), with ultralow roll-off angles (<5°), and tunable resistance to liquid penetration. Additionally, these coatings demonstrate the potential in effective cargo loading and robust self-cleaning properties, where experimental datasets are correlated with both relevant theoretical predictions and systematic all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of the repellent coatings. This work not only holds promise for chemical shielding, heat transfer, and liquid manipulations but offers a facile yet robust pathway for engineering advanced coatings by effectively combining components for their mutually desired properties.

Abstract
Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is a family of organic/inorganic hybrid materials with specific molecular symmetry, and shows great potential in the structural design of nanomaterials. Here, a "bottom-up" strategy is designed to fabricate 3D interconnected Si/SiOx /C nanorings (NRs) via AlCl3 -assisted aluminothermic reduction using dodecaphenyl cage silsesquioxane (T12 -Ph) as the building block. In this process, AlCl3 acts as both a liquid medium for reduction, and significantly as the catalyst to the cross-linking of phenyl groups in T12 -Ph. The obtained Si/SiOx /C NRs exhibits uniform diameter of ≈165 nm and well distribution of C and Si elements. The unique ring-like structure of Si/SiOx /C NRs makes it have great application potential in the field of lithium ion batteries. Notably, Si/SiOx /C NRs exhibits superior high-rate capacity and good cycle stability when used as anode for LIBs. More excitingly, Si/SiOx /C NRs can deliver a high reversible capacity of 517.9 mA h g-1 at ultra-low temperature of -70 °C, and the capacity retention as high as ≈50% of that at 25 °C. This work not only broadens structural design of carbon-based nanomaterials but also provides more possibilities for the application of POSS.

Abstract
We report carbene insertion into Si-H bonds of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) for the synthesis of highly functionalized siloxane nanomaterials. Dirhodium(II) carboxylates catalyze insertion of aryl-diazoacetates as carbene precursors to afford POSS structures containing both ester and aryl groups as orthogonal functional handles for further derivatization of POSS materials. Four diverse and structurally varied silsesquioxane core scaffolds with one, three, or eight Si-H bonds were evaluated with diazo reactants to produce a total of 20 new POSS compounds. Novel diazo compounds containing a fluorinated octyl group and boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) chromophore demonstrate the use of highly functionalized substrates. Transformations of aryl(ester)-functionalized POSS compounds derived from this method are demonstrated, including ester hydrolysis and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling.

Abstract
Organic electronic materials have advantages over inorganics in terms of versatility, cost, and processability. Recent advancements in organic materials for light-emitting diodes (OLED), field effect transistors (OFET), and photovoltaics have engendered extensive innovation potential on this field. In this research, we focus on synthesizing SQ (silsesquioxane) based oligomers cross-linked by dibromo-aromatic linkers and explore how the cross-linker influences their photophysical properties. Bis-trialkoxy silyl (linker) model compounds were synthesized to compare noncage photophysical properties with the oligomers. Several techniques such as UV/vis, fluorescence, FTIR, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) have been used to characterize the systems. Time-resolved fluorescence and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy were used to understand the excited state dynamics of these materials. Studies were carried out to understand the differences between monomers and oligomers and potential energy transfer and charge transfer between the cages and cross-linking chromophores. Transient absorption showed lower energy absorption from the excited states, suggesting short-range communication between moieties. Single photon counting studies have shown distinct lifetime differences between most linkers and cages display possible excitation energy transfer through these materials. Transient absorption anisotropy measurements have shown signatures for excitation energy transfer between linker chromophores for oligomeric compounds. The silsesquioxane (SQ) backbone of the oligomers gives substantial thermal stability as well as solution processability, giving better flexibility for achieving energy transfer between linking chromophores.

Abstract
This study reports on a series of crosslinked poly(arylene ether)s with POSS in the main chain. The fluorinated and terminated poly(arylene ether)s were first synthesized by the nucleophilic reaction of diphenol POSS and decafluorodiphenyl monomers, including decafluorobiphenyl, decaflurobenzophenone, and decafluorodiphenyl sulfone. They were then reacted with 3-hydroxyphenyl acetylene to produce phenylacetylene-terminated poly(arylene ether)s. The polymers were of excellent processability. When heated to a high temperature, the polymers converted into a crosslinked network, exhibiting a low range of dielectric constant from 2.17 to 2.58 at 1 HMz, strong resistance against chemical solutions, low dielectric losses, and good thermal and hydrophobic properties.

Abstract
We report on the facile synthesis of SiO2 @nitrized-TiO2 nanocomposite (NST) by calcination of TiO2 xerogel with OctaAmmonium POSS® (N-POSS; POSS=polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes). The as-obtained nanoporous mixed oxide is constituted by uniformly distributed SiO2 and nitrized-TiO2 , where the silica component is present in an amorphous state and TiO2 in an anatase/rutile mixed phase (92.1 % vs. 7.9 %, respectively) with very small anatase crystallites (3.7 nm). The TiO2 lattice is nitrized both at interstitial and substitutional positions. NST features a negatively charged surface with a remarkable surface area (406 m2 g-1 ), endowed with special adsorption capabilities towards cationic dyes. Its photocatalytic behavior was tested by following the degradation of standard aqueous methylene blue and methyl orange solutions under UV and visible light irradiation, according to ISO 10678:2010. For comparison, analogous investigations were carried out on a silica-free N-TiO2 , obtained by using NH4 Cl as nitrogen source.

Abstract
The continuously decreasing size of device features in microelectronics draws growing attention to the structuring of silicon at the molecular level with powerful tools provided by synthetic chemistry. Silicon clusters are of particular importance in this regard not only as potential precursors for silicon deposition but also as well-defined model systems for bulk and surfaces of silicon at the nanoscale as well as possible starting points for future construction of molecularly precise device structures. This review aims to give a comprehensive overview about the state of the art in the synthesis of molecular silicon clusters, which are grouped into (1) electron-precise saturated clusters, (2) soluble polyhedral Zintl anions, and (3) unsaturated silicon clusters, the so-called siliconoids. Particular attention is paid to functionalization as it is generally considered a necessary prerequisite for the design and construction of more extended systems. The interrelations between the three different classes of molecular silicon clusters, e.g., arising from the introduction of negatively charged functional groups, are highlighted on grounds of NMR properties and computed electronic structures.

Abstract
Interfacial behavior of submicron thick polymer films critically controls the performance of electrochemical devices. We developed a robust, everyday-accessible, fluorescence confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM)-based strategy that can probe the distribution of mobility, ion conduction, and other properties across ionomer samples. When fluorescent photoacid probe 8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid trisodium salt (HPTS) was incorporated into <1 μm thick Nafion films on substrates, the depth-profile images showed thickness- and interface-dependent proton conduction behavior. In these films, proton conduction was weak over a region next to substrate interface, then gradually increased until air interface at 88% RH. Conversely, consistently high proton conduction with no interface dependence was observed across 35-50 μm thick bulk, free-standing Nafion membranes. A hump-like mobility/stiffness distribution was observed across Nafion films containing mobility-sensitive probe (9-(2-carboxy-2-cyanovinyl)julolidine) (CCVJ). The proton conduction and mobility distribution were rationalized as a combinatorial effect of interfacial interaction, ionomer chain orientation, chain density, and ionic domain characteristics.

Abstract
Double-four ring (D4R)-type cage germanoxanes, having a fluoride anion in the cage, contain organic ammonium cations as counter cations outside the cage, and they are attractive as unique nano-building blocks of anionic porous materials. Although the variety of counter cations directly included in the cage germanoxane synthesis is limited, this study demonstrates that other tetraalkylammonium cations can be introduced by cation exchange in both discrete and cross-linked states. Tetraethylammonium (TEA) of a discrete cage germanoxane was replaced with tetrabutylammonium (TBA) in an organic solvent, which provides another starting material. TEA and TBA cations in cross-linked networks formed by hydrosilylation reactions of dimethylvinylsilylated cage germanoxanes with various oligosiloxanes as linkers were exchanged with tetramethylammonium (TMA) cations. The variation in the pore volume, which depends on the type of introduced counter cations and oligosiloxane linkers, is verified. In terms of bottom-up synthesis of nanoporous materials from cage-type germanoxanes, the selection of both the counter cation and cross-linker is important to vary the porosity.

Preparation of Soluble POSS-Linking Polyamide and Its Application in Antifogging Films. MATERIALS 2021; 14:ma14123178. Abstract
In this study, we prepared a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-linking polyamide (POSS polyamide) by a polycondensation of ammonium-functionalized POSS (POSS-A) and carboxyl-functionalized POSS (POSS-C) in dehydrated dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) using 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) as condensing agents. The obtained POSS polyamide was soluble in various highly polar solvents, and it could form a self-standing film. FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 29Si NMR analyses showed that POSS polyamide is a polymer in which POSS-A and POSS-C are linked almost linearly by amide bonds. Furthermore, the cast film obtained by heat-treating the polymer at 150 °C for 30 min exhibited excellent transparency and hard-coating (pencil scratch test: 5H) and antifogging properties (evaluation by water vapor exposure).
