Abstract
A novel and efficient metal-free C-H functionalization of enynals is developed to synthesize α-pyrone derivatives via the formation of two C-O bonds. In this project, K2S2O8 has been introduced as an efficient oxygen source and C-H functionalization agent in regioselective oxidative cyclization reaction with a relatively broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A zinc(II) triflate-catalyzed cyclocondensation of ortho-alkynylbenzaldehydes with arylamines in the presence of base under an oxygen atmosphere affording isoquinolones in good to high yields has been developed. The advantages of the present catalyst system include the use of an air-stable and cheap commercially available Lewis acid as the catalyst, high atom utilization and easily available starting materials.

Abstract
Two distinctive transition-metal-promoted aerobic oxidation protocols have been developed for the synthesis of isoquinolones from 2-vinylbenzaldehydes and aniline derivatives. Thus, the one-pot tandem reaction sequence of imine formation, thermal 6π-electrocyclization, followed by either Cu(OAc)2-mediated or Pd(OAc)2-catalyzed aerobic oxidation protocol allowed the ready access to isoquinolone derivatives. The control experiments revealed that the 1,2-dihydroisoquinoline intermediates from the 6π-electrocyclization of 1-azatrienes were aerobically oxidized to isoquinolones in the presence of either Cu(OAc)2 or Pd(OAc)2 catalyst.

Abstract
A new cascade bicyclization of o-alkynyl aldehydes with thiazolium salts is described, in which 25 examples of densely functionalized indeno[2,1-b]pyrroles are achieved in a functional-group-compatible manner. Thiazole carbenes generated in situ from thiazolium salts play dual roles as reaction partners and as NHC catalysts. The synthetic utility of these bicyclization reactions results in subsequent C-C bond-forming events to rapidly build up molecular complexity.

We present a novel and facile route to functionalised isoquinolinones and isoquinolines in good yields.

Abstract
The catalyst-controlled C4/C8 site-selective C-H arylation of isoquinolones using aryliodonium salts as the coupling partners was developed. The C4-selective arylation was successfully achieved via an electrophilic palladation pathway. A completely different selectivity pattern was observed using an Ir(III) catalytic system, which resulted in C-C bond formation exclusively at the C8 position. The isoquinolone scaffold can be conveniently equipped with various aryl substituents at either the C4 or C8 position.

Abstract
A rhenium-magnesium cocatalyzed [4+2] annulation of benzamides and alkynes via C-H/N-H functionalization is described. The reaction features a divergent and high level of diastereoselectivities, which are readily switchable by subtle tuning of reaction conditions. Thus, a wide range of both cis- and trans-3,4-dihydroisoquinolinones is expediently synthesized in a highly atom-economical manner. Moreover, mechanistic studies unraveled a tandem mode of action between rhenium and magnesium in the catalytic cycles.
