Abstract
Fifteen N-butylpyridinium salts - five monometallic [C4 Py]2 [MBr4 ] and ten bimetallic [C4 Py]2 [M0.5 a M0.5 b Br4 ] (M=Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Zn) - were synthesized, and their structures and thermal and electrochemical properties were studied. All the compounds are ionic liquids (ILs) with melting points between 64 and 101 °C. Powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction show that all ILs are isostructural. The electrochemical stability windows of the ILs are between 2 and 3 V. The conductivities at room temperature are between 10-5 and 10-6 S cm-1 . At elevated temperatures, the conductivities reach up to 10-4 S cm-1 at 70 °C. The structures and properties of the current bromide-based ILs were also compared with those of previous examples using chloride ligands, which illustrated differences and similarities between the two groups of ILs.

Abstract
Thirteen N-butylpyridinium salts, including three monometallic [C4 Py]2 [MCl4 ], nine bimetallic [C4 Py]2 [M1-x a Mx b Cl4 ] and one trimetallic compound [C4 Py]2 [M1-y-z a My b Mz c Cl4 ] (M=Co, Cu, Mn; x=0.25, 0.50 or 0.75 and y=z=0.33), were synthesized and their structure and thermal and electrochemical properties were studied. All compounds are ionic liquids (ILs) with melting points between 69 and 93 °C. X-ray diffraction proves that all ILs are isostructural. The conductivity at room temperature is between 10-4 and 10-8 S cm-1 . Some Cu-based ILs reach conductivities of 10-2 S cm-1 , which is, however, probably due to IL dec. This correlates with the optical bandgap measurements indicating the formation of large bandgap semiconductors. At elevated temperatures approaching the melting points, the conductivities reach up to 1.47×10-1 S cm-1 at 70 °C. The electrochemical stability windows of the ILs are between 2.5 and 3.0 V.

Abstract
Copper(II) complexes of type (NHC)CuX2 (X = OAc, Cl, Br, BF4, and NO3) bearing monodentate N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) were prepared by in situ decarboxylation of imidazolium carboxylates as a new synthetic methodology for Cu(II)-NHC complexes. In contrast to the classical deprotonation method, the decarboxylation protocol does not require anaerobic conditions and provides access to complexes with NHCs that are unstable as free carbenes such as N,N'-diisopropyl-imidazolylidene and N,N'-dimethyl-imidazolylidene. Spectroscopic evidence of the formation of the Cu-CNHC bond is provided by UV-vis and EPR, in particular by the 44 MHz carbene hyperfine coupling constant using a 13C-labeled imidazolylidene ligand. A variation of the nature of the carbene N-substituents and the anions bound to the Cu(II) center is possible with this methodology. These variations strongly influence the stability of the complexes. Structural rearrangement and ligand reorganization was observed during recrystallization, which are comprised of heterolytic Cu-CNHC bond dissociation for unstable NHC ligands as well as homolytic Cu-X bond cleavage and disproportionation reactions depending on the nature of the anion X in the copper complex.

Abstract
Two types of in situ formed structure directing agents (SDAs) including aromatic triphenylphosphine (PPh3)- and aliphatic piperazine (H2pp)-derivative cations were used to synthesize five new hybrid iodoargentates, namely (EtPPh3)Ag3I4 (1, Et = ethyl), (n-PrPPh3)Ag3I4 (2, n-Pr = n-propyl), (i-PrPPh3)Ag5I6 (3, i-Pr = isopropyl), (Me4pp)0.5AgI2 (4, Me = methyl), and (H3app)2(Ag2I6)·2I·2H2O (5, app = N-aminoethylpiperazine). A comparative study of the two types of SDAs on the structures, stabilities and properties of hybrid iodoargentates was performed in detail. Structurally, except for (EtPPh3)+ and (n-PrPPh3)+, which both directly form (Ag3I4)- anionic chains in 1 and 2, three SDAs generate hybrid iodoargentates different from each other with inorganic anions ranging from a 0-D (Ag2I6)4- dimer to 1-D α-type (AgI2)- and (Ag5I6)- chains. With regard to the electronic structures, aromatic PPh3-derivative cations make noticeable contributions to the bottom of the conduction bands, while aliphatic pp-derivative cations make nearly no contribution to the frontier orbitals, clearly indicating their different ways to adjust the band gaps. With regard to stability, the decomposition temperatures of 1-3 in the range of 324-349 °C are noticeably higher than the values of 217 and 225 °C for 4 and 5. Furthermore, 1-4 exhibit good water stabilities, which is ascribed to the alkylation reactions precluding the formation of strong hydrogen bonds between alkylated SDAs and extraneous H2O molecules. Contrarily, the presence of typical hydrophilic [double bond, length as m-dash]NH2+, [triple bond, length as m-dash]NH+ and -NH3+ groups on the protonated (H3app)3+ cation makes 5 sensitive to water and a hydrolysis reaction occurs to generate a cubic AgI phase. Finally, 1-3 exhibit high photocatalytic efficiencies for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) dye in wastewater under visible light. All conclusions obtained here will help a lot in the synthesis of stable functional metal halide-based hybrids.

Abstract
Ionic liquids can form biphasic solvent systems with many organic solvents and water, and these solvent systems can be used in liquid-liquid separations and countercurrent chromatography. The wide range of ionic liquids that can by synthesised, with specifically tailored properties, represents a new philosophy for the separation of organic, inorganic and bio-based materials. A customised countercurrent chromatograph has been designed and constructed specifically to allow the more viscous character of ionic liquid-based solvent systems to be used in a wide variety of separations (including transition metal salts, arenes, alkenes, alkanes, bio-oils and sugars).

Tetrabromidocuprates(II)-Synthesis, Structure and EPR. Int J Mol Sci 2016; 17:ijms17040596. Abstract
Metal-containing ionic liquids (ILs) are of interest for a variety of technical applications, e.g., particle synthesis and materials with magnetic or thermochromic properties. In this paper we report the synthesis of, and two structures for, some new tetrabromidocuprates(II) with several "onium" cations in comparison to the results of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic analyses. The sterically demanding cations were used to separate the paramagnetic Cu(II) ions for EPR measurements. The EPR hyperfine structure in the spectra of these new compounds is not resolved, due to the line broadening resulting from magnetic exchange between the still-incomplete separated paramagnetic Cu(II) centres. For the majority of compounds, the principal g values (g‖ and g⊥) of the tensors could be determined and information on the structural changes in the [CuBr₄](2-) anions can be obtained. The complexes have high potential, e.g., as ionic liquids, as precursors for the synthesis of copper bromide particles, as catalytically active or paramagnetic ionic liquids.

Abstract
Ionogels (IGs) based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and the metal-containing ionic liquids (ILs) bis-1-butyl-3-methlimidazolium tetrachloridocuprate(II), tetrachloride cobaltate(II), and tetrachlorido manganate(II) have been synthesized and their mechanical and electrical properties have been correlated with their microstructure. Unlike many previous examples, the current IGs show a decreasing stability in stress-strain experiments on increasing IL fractions. The conductivities of the current IGs are lower than those observed in similar examples in the literature. Both effects are caused by a two-phase structure with micrometer-sized IL-rich domains homogeneously dispersed an IL-deficient continuous PMMA phase. This study demonstrates that the IL-polymer miscibility and the morphology of the IGs are key parameters to control the (macroscopic) properties of IGs.

Abstract
The characterization of non-crystalline complexes is very difficult when techniques like X-ray diffraction or NMR are not available. We propose a simple procedure to characterize the physicochemical properties of amorphous new coordination compounds between cyclodextrins (CD) and Cu2+ salts, by several techniques as TGA, FT-IR, EPR.
