Abstract
The development of a simple, rapid, and sensitive method for monitoring antibiotic residues is crucial for maintaining food safety. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescence probe based on bimetallic organic framework (Eu/Zr-MOF) was developed for the detection of tetracycline (TC). The Eu/Zr-MOF was synthesized by the coordination of Eu3+ and Zr4+ with 2-APDC, which exhibited a grape-like cluster morphology and dual-emitting fluorescence at 430 nm/616 nm. Based on the internal filtering effect (IFE), significant fluorescence quenching was observed at 430 nm, whereas only slight changes occurred at 616 nm. The ratiometric sensing offered two broad linear ranges (0.5-8 μg/mL; 10-60 μg/mL) and a low detection limit (26.7 ng/mL). The proposed method was applied to the determination of TC in pork and water samples. Fluorescent sensors have the advantages of simple design, fast response, and high sensitivity, thus providing a promising means for evaluating the safety of food contaminated with TC.

Abstract
A three-dimensional terbium(III) coordination polymer of formula [Tb(bttb)0.5(2,5-pzdc)0.5]n (1) [H4bttb = 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(4'-carboxyphenyl)benzene and H2-2,5-pzdc = 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid] was obtained under hydrothermal conditions. The bttb4- tetraanion in 1 adopts the bridging and chelating-bridging pseudo-oxo coordination modes while the 2,5-pzdc2- dianion exhibits a rather unusual bis-bidentate bridging pseudo-oxo coordination mode, both ligands being responsible for the stiffness of the resulting 3D structure. Solid-state photoluminescent measurements illustrate that 1 exhibits remarkable green luminescence emission, the most intense band occurring in the region of 550 nm (5D4 → 7F5) with lifetimes at the millisecond scale. Thermometric performances of 1 reveal a maximum relative sensitivity (Sm) of 0.76% K-1 at 295 K (δT = 0.05 K), constituting a TbIII ratiometric solid luminescent thermometer over the physiological temperature range. Variable-temperature static (dc) magnetic susceptibility measurements for 1 in the temperature range 2.0-300 K show the expected behavior for the depopulation of the splitted mJ levels of the 7F7 ground state of the magnetically anisotropic terbium(III) ion plus a weak antiferromagnetic interaction through the carboxylate bridges. No significant out-of-phase magnetic susceptibility signals were observed for 1 in the temperature range 2.0-10.0 K, either in the absence or presence of a static dc magnetic field.

Abstract
The development of a self-calibrating ratio fluorescence probe without the need for additional substrates is a major advancement in biosensing. In this study, at room temperature, a self-calibrating infinite coordination polymer (SSA-Tb-ATP ICPs) has been proposed by self-assembling adenosine triphosphate (ATP) with 5-sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) and Tb3+. Due to the antenna effect, SSA-Tb-ATP ICPs exhibited strong green fluorescence emission of Tb3+ (at 547 nm) and blue fluorescence emission of SSA (at 407 nm). This material offers several advantages over existing detection methods, including simplicity of synthesis and exceptional sensitivity. Our self-calibrating SSA-Tb-ATP ICPs demonstrated excellent performance in detecting alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and phosphate (Pi) in both serum and environmental samples with detection limits of 0.076 U/L and 0.025 μM, respectively. Moreover, we successfully employed the SSA-Tb-ATP ICPs to perform cellular imaging of ALP in both hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2) and normal liver cells (LO2), representing a significant advancement in ALP detection and imaging. The simplicity of the synthesis and high sensitivity make this probe a promising tool for early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma in clinical settings and environment analysis.

Abstract
A series of bifunctional Ln(III)-based coordination polymers (CPs) {Ln(L)(DMA)2(NO3)}n [Ln(III) = Eu (1), Gd (2), and Dy (3); organic ligand H2L = 2,2'-(1,3,5,7-tetrahydroxyoctahydro-4,8-ethanopyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6(1H,3H)-diyl)diacetic acid)] have been successfully synthesized. CPs 1-3 are isostructural and constructed from the dimeric Ln2 unit in which two adjacent LnIII ions are bridged by two μ3-carboxyl oxygens, and the Ln2 dimeric unit is connected by two NO3- ions, four DMA molecules, and four completely protonated L2- ligands forming a 2D layer structure. The magnetic research reveals that CP 2 shows a significant cryogenic magnetocaloric effect (-ΔSm = 22.9 J kg-1 K-1; T = 2.0 K and ΔH = 7.0 T), whereas CP 3 exhibits slow magnetic relaxation property under Hdc = 0 Oe field. Additionally, the luminescence explorations revealed that CP 1 can act as a recyclable luminescent probe for pollutant acetylacetone among various small organic solvent molecules, and the corresponding detection limit is 10-7 mol/L. More importantly, CP 1 also exhibits good catalytic performance in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epoxides or cyanamides under mild conditions. As far as we know, CP 1 represents the first bifunctional lanthanide homogeneous catalyst that can efficiently catalyze the reaction of cyanamides/epoxides with CO2 simultaneously.

Abstract
Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) with exceptional optical performance and structural diversity offer a unique platform for the development of luminescent materials. However, Ln-MOFs often suffer from luminescence quenching by high-vibrating oscillators, especially in aqueous solution. Thus, multiple strategies have been adopted to improve the luminescence of Ln3+. Anomalous research about water-induced lanthanide luminescence enhancement of Ln-MOFs is in the primary stage. Here, two Eu-based metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) isomers named QXBA-Eu-1 and QXBA-Eu-2 were constructed by using the same ligand under different solvent thermal conditions, which exhibited distinctive water- and methanol-boosting emission behaviors. As for QXBA-Eu-1, water and methanol molecules replaced the free N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) molecules in the framework, repressed the rotation or libration suppression of the QXBA linker, and formed hydrogen bonds with the coordinated water molecules, which suppressed the O-H high-energy vibrations, reduced nonradiative transitions, stabilized the T1 state, and facilitated the intersystem crossing (ISC) process. For QXBA-Eu-2, water molecules tended to replace the coordinated DMA ligands, which altered the S1 and T1 energy levels of the ligand and facilitated the ligand-to-metal energy transfer (LMET) process and strengthened the luminescence of Eu3+. Importantly, free solvent molecules and the hydroxylation of Eu3+ centers also restrained the rotation or libration of the QXBA linker, by which the nonradiative transition was further inhibited and the lanthanide luminescence enhanced. Thus, this work not only opened an unprecedented path to enhance lanthanide luminescence in aqueous solution but also expanded its application scope.

Abstract
In this work we demonstrate a two-pixel solid-state photoluminescent device able to emit white light covering the entire visible spectrum from 380 nm up to 800 nm. The device is based on a combination of porous Si, hydrothermally grown ZnO and carbon quantum dots, in a two-pixel formation, with porous Si and ZnO acting independently while the carbon quantum dots are deposited on top of the entire device. All processing is done using standard Si processing techniques. Moreover, the device design allows for tunability of the emitted spectrum simply by choosing the desired combination of the materials. Overall, the demonstrated device is low cost, environmentally safe and biocompatible.

Abstract
Several isostructural lanthanide metal-organic frameworks, viz. [Ln(DCHB)1.5phen]n (Ln-MOFs, where Ln = Eu for 1, Tb for 2, Sm for 3 and Dy for 4), are successfully synthesized through the hydrothermal reactions of 4'-di(4-carboxylphenoxy)hydroxyl-2, 2'-bipyridyl (H2DCHB) and lanthanide nitrates as well as chelator 1,10-phenantroline (phen). These structures are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and the representative Ln-MOF 1 is a fivefold interpenetrated framework with the uncoordinated Lewis base N sites form DCHB2- ligands. The photoluminescence research studies reveal that Ln-MOFs 1-4 exhibit characteristic fluorescent emissions from ligand-induced lanthanide Ln(III) ions, while the single-component emission spectra of Ln-MOF 4 are all located in a white region under different excitations. The absence of coordinated water and the interpenetration property of the structures are conducive to the structure rigidity, and the results display that Ln-MOF 1 has high thermal/chemical stabilities in common solvents and a wide pH range as well as the boiling water. Notably, luminescent sensing studies reveal that Ln-MOF 1 with prominent fluorescence properties can perform in highly sensitive and selective sensing of vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) in aqueous systems (KSV = 562.8 L·mol-1; LOD = 4.6 × 10-4 M), which can potentially establish a detection platform for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma via multiquenching mechanisms. Moreover, the 1@MMMs sensing membranes comprised of Ln-MOF 1 and a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) polymer can also be facilely developed for VMA detection in aqueous media, suggesting the enhanced convenience and efficiency of practical sensing applications.

Abstract
Molecular materials based on small organic molecules often require advanced structural analysis, beyond the capability of spectroscopic techniques, to fully characterise them. In such cases, diffraction methods such as single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), are one of the most powerful tools available to researchers, providing molecular and structural elucidation at atomic level resolution, including absolute stereochemistry. However SCXRD, and related diffraction methods, are heavily dependent on the availability of suitable, high-quality crystals, thus crystallisation often becomes the major bottleneck in preparing samples. Following a summary of classical methods for the crystallisation of small organic molecules, this review will focus on a number of recently developed advanced methods for crystalline material sample preparation for SCXRD. This review will cover two main areas of modern small organic molecule crystallisation, namely the inclusion of molecules within host complexes (e.g., "crystalline sponge" and tetraaryladamantane based inclusion chaperones) and the use of high-throughput crystallisation, employing "under-oil" approaches (e.g., microbatch under-oil and ENaCt). Representative examples have been included for each technique, together with a discussion of their relative advantages and limitations to aid the reader in selecting the most appropriate technique to overcome a specific analytical challenge.

Abstract
A new strategy for the easy polymerization of anionic [Ln(Qcy)4]- (HQcy-4-(cyclohexanecarbonyl)-5-methyl-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one) into two-dimensional layers of [AgLn(Qcy)4]n (Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb and Dy) is proposed by binding the single molecular anions [Ln(Qcy)4]- to silver cations through the coordination of the pyridinic nitrogen atoms of the pyrazolonate rings. The luminescent properties of [AgLn(Qcy)4]n have been studied in detail, and it was shown that the previously described low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of [Eu(Qcy)4]- is due to Ligand-To-Metal Charge Transfer (LMCT) quenching, which is effectively suppressed in the heterometallic [AgEu(Qcy)4]n polymer. Sensibilization coefficients for H3O[Eu(Qcy)4], [AgEu(Qcy)4]n, and H3O[Sm(Qcy)4] complexes (n ≈ 1) were estimated via theoretical analysis (also by using Judd-Ofelt theory for Sm3+) and PLQY measurements.

Abstract
We report a lanthanide-based infinite coordination polymer (ICP) system synthesized using pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid as linker, malonic acid as coordination modulator and water as solvent. The precursors self-assembly into microspherical particles, which are water-stable and exhibit excellent dispersibility. Bimetallic samples based on Tb3+ doped with Eu3+ were investigated as ratiometric dipicolinic acid (DPA) sensors, which is a biomarker for Bacillus anthracis spores. Along with the calibration curves, a detection in a real sample extracted from Bacillus subtilis (model organism) was performed. The samples proved to be highly sensitive and selective for ratiometric DPA detection. In a secondary study, the monometallic sample containing only Tb3+ was also investigated as a sensor for ionic species in aqueous media. The Cr3+, Fe3+, Cu2+, and Cr2O72- ionic species could be detected in water by luminescence quenching mechanism. Therefore, we found that the reported ICP system can be judiciously constructed in order to act as a multimodal probe for several chemical species.

Abstract
Luminescent probes have wide applications in biological system analysis and environmental science. Here, one novel luminescent dinuclear europium compound with a crown ether analogous ligand was synthesized through a solvent-thermal reaction. Through transformation, upon the addition of Al3+ ions to the N,N'-dimethyl formamide solution of the europium compound, the luminescent intensity of the characteristic emission of Eu3+ decreased, and a new emission peak appeared at 346 nm and increased rapidly. The luminescent investigation indicated that it could act as a highly sensitive and selective luminescent probe for Al3+ ions. Moreover, mass spectrometry and single-crystal X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of a new more stable trinuclear aluminium compound during the sensing process.

Abstract
The establishment of a reliable and sensitive method for the detection of flavonoids, such as kaempferol (Kae) and quercetin (Que), is important and challenging in food chemistry and pharmacology because numerous structural analogues may interfere with the detection. Until now, designing an efficient switch-on fluorescence sensing strategy for Kae and Que was still in the unachievable stage. In this work, a switch-on near-infrared (NIR) luminescence sensing assay for Kae and Que was fabricated based on a metal-organic framework (MOF) called IQBA-Yb for the first time. The fluorescence enhancing mechanism was that analytes served as additional "antenna" of Yb3+, leading to the efficient switch-on NIR emission under excitation at 467 nm. Meanwhile, the combination results of experiment and theoretical calculation revealed that there existed hydrogen bonds between Kae, Que, and the MOF skeleton, further promoting the energy transfer between the analyte and Yb3+ and facilitating fluorescence enhancement response. The developed probe possessed excellent sensing capability for Kae and Que, accompanied by a wide linear range (0.04-70, 0.06-90 μM), low detection limit (0.01, 0.06 μM), and short response time (20 min, 6 min), which was used to determine the Kae and Que contents in Green Lake and eatable Que samples with satisfactory results.

Expanding the Knowledge of the Selective-Sensing Mechanism of Nitro Compounds by Luminescent Terbium Metal-Organic Frameworks through Multiconfigurational ab Initio Calculations. Abstract
The current research shows that the excited-state dynamics of the antenna ligand, both in the interacting system sensor/analyte and in the sensor without analyte, is a safe tool for elucidating the detection principle of the luminescent lanthanide-based metal-organic framework sensors. In this report the detection principle of the luminescence quenching mechanism in two Tb-based MOFs sensors is elucidated. The first system is a luminescent Tb-MOF [Tb(BTTA)1.5(H2O)4.5]n (H2BTTA = 2,5-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl) terephthalic acid) selective to nitrobenzene (NB), labeled as Tb-1. The second system is {[Tb(DPYT)(BPDC)1/2(NO3)]·H2O}n (DPYT = 2,5-di(pyridin-4-yl) terephthalic acid, BPDC = biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid), reported as a selective chemical sensor to nitromethane (NM) in situ, labeled as Tb-2. The luminescence quenching of the MOFs is promoted by intermolecular interactions with the analytes that induce destabilization of the T1 electronic state of the linker "antenna", altering thus the sensitization pathways of the Tb atoms. This study demonstrates the value of host-guest interaction simulations and the rate constants of the radiative and nonradiative processes in understanding and elucidating the sensing mechanism in Ln-MOF sensors.

Abstract
In this work a flexible multi-dentate 4,4'-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-yl) methylene-bis(benzonic acid) (H2L) ligand has been employed, a unique cluster-based nano-porous luminescent zinc(II) metal-organic framework {[Zn(μ6-L)]·(DMAC)2}n (1) (DMAC = Dimethylacetamide) has been isolated under solvo-thermal conditions. The H2L ligand adopts hexa-dentate coordination modes via one triazole nitrogen atom and four aromatic carboxylate oxygen atoms, which bridge the neighboring six-coordinated ZnII centers, leading to a three-dimensional (3D) nano-porous metal organic framework. A PLATON program analysis suggests the total potential solvent area volume is 2028.9 Å3, which occupy 62.5% percent of the unit cell volume (3248.4 Å3). PXRD Patterns of the as-synthesized samples 1 have been determined confirming the purity of the bulky samples. Photo-luminescent properties indicate strong fluorescent emissions of 1 at the room temperature. Further photo-luminescent measurements show that 1 can exhibit highly sensitive real-time luminescence sensing of anthrax biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA) with high quenching efficiency (KSV = 1.48 × 105 M-1) and low detection limit (0.298 μM (S/N = 3)). Meanwhile 1 also exhibits highly selective and sensitive luminescence sensing for Cr2O72- ions in aqueous solutions with high quenching efficiency KSV = 1.22 × 104 L·mol-1 and low detection limit (0.023 μM (S/N = 3)). Therefore 1 can be used a unique multi-functional 3D cluster-based metal organic material in sensitive detection and effective detection of environment pollutants and biomarker molecules.

Abstract
Highly selective sensing of Fe3+ is very important due to its great effect on biological systems. A novel ligand [1,1':4',1'':4'',1''':4''',1''''-quinquephenyl]-2,2'',2'''',5''-tetracarboxylic acid (H4qptca) was designed and successfully obtained for the first time via three steps in high total yields according to the absorption spectrum of Fe3+. The europium(III)-based metal-organic framework derived from H4qptca, {[Eu(qptca)1/2(H2qptca)1/2(H2O)2]·DMF}n (referred to as SLX-1), was then synthesized and used as a water-stable and highly selective luminescent sensor for Fe3+ in aqueous solution with a comparable detection limit using Ln-MOF probes (6.45 μM) through the antenna effect of SLX-1. Furthermore, the luminescence quenching mechanism was also proposed as a competitive absorption mechanism.

Abstract
Synthetic molecular probes, chemosensors, and nanosensors used in combination with innovative assay protocols hold great potential for the development of robust, low-cost, and fast-responding sensors that are applicable in biofluids (urine, blood, and saliva). Particularly, the development of sensors for metabolites, neurotransmitters, drugs, and inorganic ions is highly desirable due to a lack of suitable biosensors. In addition, the monitoring and analysis of metabolic and signaling networks in cells and organisms by optical probes and chemosensors is becoming increasingly important in molecular biology and medicine. Thus, new perspectives for personalized diagnostics, theranostics, and biochemical/medical research will be unlocked when standing limitations of artificial binders and receptors are overcome. In this review, we survey synthetic sensing systems that have promising (future) application potential for the detection of small molecules, cations, and anions in aqueous media and biofluids. Special attention was given to sensing systems that provide a readily measurable optical signal through dynamic covalent chemistry, supramolecular host-guest interactions, or nanoparticles featuring plasmonic effects. This review shall also enable the reader to evaluate the current performance of molecular probes, chemosensors, and nanosensors in terms of sensitivity and selectivity with respect to practical requirement, and thereby inspiring new ideas for the development of further advanced systems.

Abstract
The development of analytical method for selective and sensitive detection of gossypol (Gsp), an extraction from the cotton plants, is important but still challenging in food safety and medical field. Herein, we reported a turn-on near infrared (NIR) fluorescence detection strategy for Gsp based on a metal-organic framework (MOF), QBA-Yb, which was prepared from 4,4'-(quinolone-5, 8-diyl) benzoate with Yb(NO3)3·5H2O by solvothermal synthesis. The Gsp acted as another "antenna" to sensitize the luminescence of Yb3+, leading to the turn-on NIR emission upon 467 nm excitation. As Gsp concentration increased, the NIR emission at 973 nm enhanced gradually, thus enabling highly sensitive Gsp detection in a turn-on way. The experiment and theoretical calculation results revealed the presence of strong hydrogen bonds between Gsp molecules and the MOF skeleton. The developed QBA-Yb probe showed excellent characteristics for detection of Gsp molecules, accompanied by wide linear range (5-160 μg/mL), low detection limit (0.65 μg/mL) and short response time (within 10 min). We have further demonstrated that the QBA-Yb probe was successfully applied for the determination of Gsp in real samples of cottonseeds.

Abstract
Two types of new lanthanide coordination networks, [Ln3(pdc)4(Hpdc)(H2O)3]·8H2O [H2pdc = pyridine-2,4-dicarboxylic acid; Ln = Ce (1), Pr (2), Sm (3), Eu (4); type A) and [Tb5(pdc)4(Hpdc)]·3H2O (type B), have been synthesized using a hydrothermal synthetic method. The former type A compound has an unfamiliar architecture, even basically comprised of primitive cubic (pcu) topology, and demonstrate porous gas adsorption behavior, giving several hundreds of square meters per gram surface areas after evacuation of the water molecules, while the latter type B compound does not show any porous properties. Most interestingly, the solvothermal synthetic method using N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a solvent gives compounds that crystallize in a structure analogous to that of type A for Ln = La-Ho, probably formulated as [Ln3(pdc)4(Hpdc)·(DMF)m]·nDMF. These compounds also exhibit large surface areas after evacuation of the DMF molecules and also moderate amounts of hydrogen gas uptake at 77 K. The luminescence properties were investigated for Eu and Tb analogues at elevated temperatures, at which an unusual increase in the emission intensity was observed upon the release of solvents, and discussed based on their porous structure.

Abstract
Based on the anionic Slug-47 [Gd(bpdc)2-] [NH2(CH3)2+], a multifunctional fluorescent material with ultra-high stability has been fabricated successfully. Firstly, Eu0.04Tb39.96Gd60 with white light emission is prepared by adjusting the doping ratio of Eu3+ ions and Tb3+ ions. Then, the dye acriflavine (ACF) is further introduced into the framework of Eu@ Slug-47 (1) via cation exchange to obtain ACF@1, which can be used as a ratio fluorescence sensor to detect 2-methoxyaceticacid (Maa), a toxic metabolite of glycol monomethyl ether, with the limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.27 μg/mL. It is impressive that the emissions of ACF and biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylicacid ligands are gradually enhanced with the gradual weakening of the emission of Eu3+ ions during the detection of Maa. Under the superposition of three different colors, the sensing process undergoes a distinct color change from red to white and then to blue. These rich and colorful colors provide conditions for accurate visual detection of Maa. In addition, the material can also respond well to the pollutant S2- ions and the LOD can reach 11.3 μmol /L. It is worth mentioning that the available quenching effect can be observed even if Maa and S2- ions are detected in urine and tap water respectively, indicating that the multifunctional material has a brilliant application prospect. Finally, the quenching mechanism of Maa, S2- ions toward ACF@1 is discussed in detail.

Abstract
Four new gadolinium(III) metal-organic frameworks containing 2,2′-bipyridyl (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) chelate ligands and trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (chdc2−) were synthesized. Their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. All four coordination frameworks are based on the binuclear carboxylate building units. In the compounds [Gd2(bpy)2(chdc)3]·H2O (1) and [Gd2(phen)2(chdc)3]·0.5DMF (2), the six-connected {Ln2(L)2(OOCR)6} blocks form a 3D network with the primitive cubic (pcu) topology. In the compounds [Gd2(NO3)2(phen)2(chdc)2]·2DMF (3) and [Gd2Cl2(phen)2(chdc)2]·0.3DMF·2.2dioxane (4), the four-connected {Ln2(L)2(X)2OOCR)4} units (where X = NO3− for 3 or Cl− for 4) form a 2D square-grid (sql) network. The solid-state luminescent properties were investigated for the synthesized frameworks. Bpy-containing compound 1 shows no luminescence, possibly due to the paramagnetic quenching by Gd3+ cation. In contrast, the phenathroline-containing MOFs 2–4 possess yellow emission under visible excitation (λex = 460 nm) with the tuning of the characteristic wavelength by the coordination environment of the metal center.

Abstract
Efficient detection of toxic radioiodine species emitted by nuclear-related activities and accidents is crucial for the health of the human body and safety of the environment. Herein we report that a series of stable Ln-based MOFs with BTC linkers (Ln-BTCs) could provide dual fluorescence and electrochemical response of iodine vapor in the presence of humidity. Iodine molecules could be attracted by the oxygen sites of carboxylate linkers and confined in the cavities of Ln-BTCs. Due to the photoinduced electron transfer effect, the fluorescence of Ln-BTCs is quenched drastically in the presence of iodine. Meanwhile, the conductivity of Ln-BTCs could reach an increase of 107 fold in magnitude after iodine trapping. Water molecules could also be trapped in Ln-BTCs, having interacted with the frameworks via hydrogen bonds, and reduce the iodine uptake capacity, but they cannot alter the fluorescence and conductive properties of Ln-BTCs as distinctly as iodine molecules could. Besides, Raman mapping suggests a diffusion coefficient of 1.5 × 10-14 m2 s-1 for iodine transport in the porous Eu-BTC. The dual fluorescence and electrochemical signal outputs show high sensitivity and attractive ability to reduce false positives, which could be useful for potential integration for sensing radioiodine vapor.

Abstract
In view of Hg2+ ion sensing by luminescence, a series of new, phenanthroline-decorated 3D lanthanide metal organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) valorising an original combination of four different lanthanides and two organic ligands, i.e. thiobis(4-methylene-benzoic acid) (H2tmba) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), have been successfully synthesized, namely {[Ln4(tmba)6(phen)4]·m(H2O)(phen)}n [Ln = Ce, m = 3 (1); Pr, m = 1 (2); Eu, m = 3 (3); and Tb, m = 3 (4)]. Compounds 1-4 were characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental and thermogravimetric analyses, and powder X-ray diffraction. The luminescence properties of complexes 3 and 4 were thoroughly investigated. It is herein proved that compound 3 sensitively and selectively acts as an excellent luminescent probe for the detection of Hg2+ ions in waters, with a detection limit of 1.00 μM. As additional assets, 3 displays superb stability over a wide pH range (3-12) of the aqueous media, as well as convenient recycling after completion of the detection experiments. The rationale for the observed luminescence quenching effect of mercury might be a strong interaction arising between Hg2+ ions and the carboxylate oxygen atoms of the tmba2- ligand. The results open new perspectives for applications in environmental remediation.

Abstract
Guided by a second-sphere interaction strategy, we fabricated a Tb(III)-based metal-organic framework (MMCF-4) for turn-on sensing of methyl amine with ultra-low detection limit and high turn-on efficiency. MMCF-4 features lanthanide nodes shielded in a nonacoordinate geometry along with secondary coordination spheres that are densely populated with H-bond interacting sites. Nonradiative routes were inhibited by binding-induced rigidification of the ligand on the second coordination sphere, resulting in luminescence amplification. Such remote interacting mechanism involved in the turn-on sensing event was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and molecular dynamic simulation studies. The design of both primary and secondary coordination spheres of Tb(III) enabled the first turn-on sensing of organic amines in aqueous conditions. Our work suggests a promising strategy for high-performance turn-on sensing for Ln-MOFs and luminous materials driven by other metal chromophores.

Abstract
Coordination polymers have been extensively studied in recent years. Some of these materials can exhibit several properties such as permanent porosity, high surface area, thermostability and light emission, as well as open sites for chemical functionalization. Concerning the fact that this kind of compounds are usually solids, the size and morphology of the particles are important parameters when an application is desired. Inside this context, there is a subclass of coordination polymers, named infinite coordination polymers (ICPs), which auto-organize as micro- or nanoparticles with low crystallinity. Specifically, the particles exhibiting spherical shapes and reduced sizes can be better dispersed, enter cells much easier than bulk crystals and be converted to inorganic materials by topotactic transformation. Luminescent ICPs, in particular, can find applications in several areas, such as sensing probes, light-emitting devices and bioimaging. In this review, we present the state-of-the-art of ICP-based spherical particles, including the growth mechanisms, some applications for luminescent ICPs and the challenges to overcome in future commercial usage of these materials.

Abstract
Two series of highly luminescent yttrium(iii), europium(iii) and terbium(iii) metal-organic frameworks containing diimine aromatic ligands and the dicarboxylate linker trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (chdc2-) which can be described by the general formulas [M2(bpy)2(chdc)3], where M = Y3+ (1), Eu3+ (2), and Tb3+ (3) and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridyl, and [M2(phen)2(chdc)3], where M = Y3+ (4), Eu3+ (5), and Tb3+ (6) and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, were synthesized and characterized. All compounds are based on the same dinuclear {M2(L)2(OOCR)6} building blocks and possess a similar topology of the 3D framework with narrow pores. The chelate aromatic ligands act as efficient light-harvesting antennas for subsequent energy transfer to the emitting metal center (M = Eu3+, Tb3+) or intraligand photoemission (M = Y3+). As a result, the reported compounds display intense emission in the red (Eu3+), green (Tb3+) or blue (Y3+) regions representing three basic colors (RGB) of visible light. The measured quantum yields (QYs) of the solid-state luminescence for individual compounds were found to be 63% (1), 46% (2), 59% (3), 2.3% (4), 55% (5) and 49% (6). The drastic reduction of the luminescence efficiency for 4 is explained by the strong disorder of phen ligands. The high thermal stability (up to 300 °C) and exceptional moisture resistance of the bpy-based frameworks 1-3 were confirmed by TG and PXRD measurements. Various bimetal or trimetal compositions were also prepared for the bpy-series. The luminescence properties of these mixed-metal compounds depend on both the chemical composition and excitation wavelength (λex). Remarkably, pure white emission with color temperature = 6126 K was achieved for [Y1.68Eu0.08Tb0.24(bpy)2(chdc)3] at λex = 360 nm with QY = 20%. The reported results suggest that the obtained coordination framework series is a convenient platform for the design of highly efficient light emitting materials with tunable properties.
