Abstract
Exploring low-cost visible light photocatalysts for CO2 reduction to produce proportionally adjustable syngas is of great significance for meeting the needs of green chemical industry. A S-Scheme CeO2/g-C3N4 (CeO2/CN) heterojunction was constructed by using a simple two-step calcination method. During the photocatalytic CO2 reduction process, the CeO2/CN heterojunction can present a superior photocatalytic performance, and the obtained CO/H2 ratios in syngas can be regulated from 1 : 0.16 to 1 : 3.02. In addition, the CO and H2 production rate of the optimal CeO2/CN composite can reach 1169.56 and 429.12 μmol g-1 h-1, respectively. This superior photocatalytic performance is attributed to the unique S-Scheme photogenerated charge transfer mechanism between CeO2 and CN, which facilitates rapid charge separation and migration, while retaining the excellent redox capacity of both semiconductors. Particularly, the variable valence Ce3+/Ce4+ can act as electron mediator between CeO2 and CN, which can promote electron transfer and improve the catalytic performance. This work is expected to provide a new useful reference for the rational construction of high efficiency S-Scheme heterojunction photocatalyst, and improve the efficiency of photocatalytic reduction of CO2, promoting the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into useful fuels.

Abstract
Magnetic single-atom catalysts (MSAC), due to the intrinsic spin degree of freedom, are of particular importance relative to other conventional SAC for applications in various catalytic processes, especially in those cases that involve spin-triplet O2. However, the bottleneck issue in this field is the clustering of the SAC during the processes. Here using first-principles calculations we predict that Mn atoms can be readily confined in the interface of the porous g-C3N4/CeO2(111) heterostructure, forming high-performance MSAC for O2 activation via a delicate synergetic mechanism of charge transfer, mainly provided by the p-block g-C3N4 overlayer mediated by the d-block Mn active site, and spin selection, preserved mainly through active participation of the f-block Ce atoms and/or g-C3N4, which effectively promotes the CO oxidization. Such a recipe is also demonstrated to be valid for V- and Nb-MSACs, which may shed new light on the design of highly efficient MSACs for various important chemical processes wherein spin-selection matters.

Abstract
A major challenge for Li-O2 batteries is to facilely achieve the formation and decomposition of the discharge product Li2O2, and the development of an active and synergistic cathode is of great significance to efficiently accelerate its formation/decomposition kinetics. Herein, a novel strategy is presented by constructing a MnO2-x@CeO2 heterostructure on the porous carbon matrix. When it was used as a cathode for Li-O2 batteries, excellent electrochemical performances, including low overpotential, large discharge capacity, and superior cycling stability were obtained. Series theoretical calculations were conducted to reveal the mechanism for the reversible battery reactions and explain how Li2O2 interacts with the MnO2-x@CeO2 interface. Apart from the electronic ladders formed between MnO2-x 3d and CeO2 4f orbitals, which can act as a highly efficient "electron transfer expressway", the specific adsorption of MnO2-x and CeO2 with Li2O2 molecules contributes to the enhanced anchoring force of Li2O2 and delocalization of the electron cloud on the Li-O bond. Thanks to the constructed heterostructure and synergistic effect, filmlike Li2O2 can be formed through a surface pathway, and when charging, it accelerates the separation of electrons and Li+ in Li2O2, thus achieving fast redox kinetics and low overpotential.

Abstract
Ciprofloxacin (CIP) in natural waters has been taken as a serious pollutant because of its hazardous biological and ecotoxicological effects. Here, a 3D nanocomposite photocatalyst g-C3N4/La-N-TiO2 (CN/La-N-TiO2) was successfully synthesized by a simple and reproducible in-situ synthetic method. The obtained composite was characterized by XRD, SEM, BET, TEM, mapping, IR, and UV-vis spectra. The photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin was investigated by using CN/La-N-TiO2 nanocomposite. The main influential factors such as pH of the solution, initial CIP concentration, catalyst dosage, and coexisting ions were investigated in detail. The fastest degradation of CIP occurred at a pH of about 6.5, and CIP (5 mg/L starting concentration) was completely degraded in about 60 min after exposure to the simulated solar light. The removal rates were rarely affected by Na+ (10 mg·L−1), Ca2+ (10 mg·L−1), Mg2+ (10 mg·L−1), and urea (5 mg·L−1), but decreased in the presence of NO3− (10 mg·L−1). The findings indicate that CN/La-N-TiO2 nanocomposite is a green and promising photocatalyst for large-scale applications and would be a candidate for the removal of the emerging antibiotics present in the water environment.

Abstract
Formaldehyde (CHOH), a common volatile organic compound, causes many adverse effects on human health. The highly exposed TiO2(001) facet possesses a high photodegradation efficiency of CHOH due to its excellent ability to trap photogenerated holes and high density of surface unsaturated Ti atoms (Ti5c) to bind CHOH. However, the rapid recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs of TiO2(001) limits the photodegradation efficiency. We adopted a strategy of decorating TiO2(001) with g-C3N4 quantum dots (QDs), exploiting the quantum effect of g-C3N4QDs and their combined staggered band structure. This decoration improves the photocatalytic activity of TiO2(001). Moreover, the chemical configuration of g-C3N4QDs/TiO2(001) and the combination mode between the g-C3N4QDs and TiO2(001) support were explored in detail using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Following the physiochemical characteristic results, the transport mechanism of photoinduced carriers was further analyzed by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerh (HSE) exchange-correlation functional calculations. Finally, the performance and reaction mechanism of the photodegradation of CHOH by TiO2(001) and g-C3N4QDs/TiO2(001) were thoroughly investigated. The results show that the g-C3N4QDs were composed of an N-defect tri-s-triazine supported by TiO2(001) via a strong C-O-Ti chemical bond, which accelerated the separation of photoinduced carriers through a Z-scheme route. The photodegradation and mineralization efficiencies of CHOH were significantly promoted by 30% and 60% for g-C3N4QDs/TiO2(001) compared with those of TiO2(001). The photodegradation mechanism proceeded as CHOH - dioxymethylene - formate - carbonate - CO2. This study provides a surface engineering means to design highly active modified TiO2 for CHOH photodegradation.

Abstract
According to the requirements for sustainable development, reclaiming fine chemicals from wastewater under mild conditions is an extremely significant line of research. A low-cost and high-efficiency polydentate chelate- and polymeric Co(ii)-based complex (Co-L)-loaded C3N4 photocatalyst (Co-L/C3N4) was constructed and used to convert aromatic mandelic acids in wastewater at room temperature. The BET specific surface area increased from 28 m2 g-1 to 68 m2 g-1, indicating its excellent absorptive character. The light absorption range of Co-L/C3N4 reached 650 nm, while the band energy reduced to 2.30 eV, which caused a significant enhancement in photocatalytic activity. The conversion of substituted mandelic acids was more than 90% due to the photoactivity of Co-L/C3N4. Time-resolved PL spectra indicated the remarkable separation of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs in Co-L/C3N4. Furthermore, the UV-vis and in situ FTIR spectra indicated the formation of aldehyde groups in the selective oxidation process, which provided support for the plausible catalytic mechanism.

Abstract
Strontium vanadate nanoparticles embedded graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4/Sr2V2O7) was facilely prepared in situ via a hydrothermal method. It was shown that the Sr2V2O7 nanoparticles implanted into g-carbon nitride had a small size and high distribution. Importantly, compared with some other photocatalysts, the as-prepared g-C3N4/Sr2V2O7 nanohybrid showed excellent photocatalytic activity for reduction of Cr(vi), and as high as 99% efficiency for Cr(vi) reduction (100 mg L−1) was reached within 8 min. Moreover, its activity was hardly changed after five cycles, demonstrating that the developed g-C3N4/Sr2V2O7 nanohybrid was highly stable and promising an efficacious disposal of Cr(vi) in water. It was confirmed that the improved charge separation owing to more nitrogen vacancies in the hybrid was the main reason for the improved performance of the g-C3N4-Sr2V2O7 nanohybrid. A well-dispersed strontium vanadate implanted into graphitic carbon nitride showed excellent photocatalytic activity for Cr(vi) reduction. The improved charge separation owing to more nitrogen vacancies was the main reason for its enhanced activity.![]()

Abstract
Herein, novel ternary kaolin/CeO2/g-C3N4 composite was prepared by sol-gel method followed by hydrothermal treatment. The self-assembled 3D “sandwich” structure consisting of kaolin, CeO2 and g-C3N4 nanosheets, was systematically characterized by appropriate techniques to assess its physicochemical properties. In the prerequisite of visible-light irradiation, the removal efficiency of ciprofloxacin (CIP) over the kaolin/CeO2/g-C3N4 composite was about 90% within 150 min, 2-folds higher than those of pristine CeO2 and g-C3N4. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the improved photo-induced charge separation efficiency and the large specific surface area, which was determined by electrochemical measurements and N2 physisorption methods, respectively. The synergistic effect between the kaolin and CeO2/g-C3N4 heterostructure improved the photocatalytic performance of the final solid. The trapping and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments demonstrated that the hole (h+) and superoxide radicals (•O2−) played an important role in the photocatalytic process. The photocatalytic mechanism for CIP degradation was also proposed based on experimental results. The obtained results revealed that the kaolin/CeO2/g-C3N4 composite is a promising solid catalyst for environmental remediation.
