Abstract
Flexible supercapacitors (FSCs) have attracted much attention due to their strong mechanical flexibility, wearability and portability, which greatly rely on the employed flexible electrodes. The conductive polymer hydrogels with excellent flexibility, processability and capacitive performance are one of the most promising candidates, which are still limited by their poor mechanical properties. Constructing robust interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) is an effective approach to promote their mechanical properties. Herein, interpenetrating polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-sodium alginate (SA)-polypyrrole (PPy) hydrogels are prepared by the freeze-thaw and in-situ polymerization method. The IPN structure composed of PVA and SA not only enhances the mechanical properties of hydrogels, but also provides substantial active sites for electrochemical reactions. Moreover, the hydrogen-bonding interaction between different components in the PVA-SA-PPy hydrogel boosts the charge/ion transfer. The optimal PVA-SA-PPy hydrogels show an elongation at break of 380 %, a tensile strength of 1.5 MPa, and a specific capacitance of 2646 mF cm-2 at 2 mA cm-2. The symmetric PVA-SA-PPy FSCs show an energy density of 96.7 μWh cm-2 at a power density of 999.9 μW cm-2, and the capacitance retention is 66.3 % after 10,000 cycles. These exceptional mechanical and electrochemical properties make the PVA-SA-PPy hydrogels a promising candidate for FSCs.

Abstract
Conductive hydrogels have been widely used as sensors owing to their tissue-like properties. However, the synthesis of conductive hydrogels with highly adjustable mechanical properties and multiple functions remains difficult to achieve yet highly needed. In this study, lignin hydrogel characterized by frost resistance, UV resistance, high conductivity, and highly adjustable mechanical properties without forming by-products was prepared through a rapid in-situ polymerization of acrylic acid/zinc chloride (AA/ZnCl2) aqueous solution containing lignin extract induced by the reversible quinone-catechol redox of the ZnCl2-lignin system at room temperature. Results revealed that the PAA/ZnCl2/lignin hydrogel exhibited mechanical properties with tensile stress (ranging from 0.08 to 3.28 MPa), adhesion to multiple surfaces (up to 62.05 J m-2), excellent frost resistance (-70-20 °C), UV resistance, and conductivity (0.967 S m-1), which further endow the hydrogel as potential strain and temperature sensor with wide monitor range (0-300 %), fatigue resistance, and quick response (70 ms for 150 % strain). This study proposed and developed a green, simple, economical, and efficient processing method for a hydrogel sensor in flexible wearable devices and man-machine interaction fields.

Abstract
In recent years, three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting of conductive hydrogels has made significant progress in the fabrication of high-resolution biomimetic structures with gradual complexity. However, the lack of an effective cross-linking strategy, ideal shear-thinning, appropriate yield strength, and higher print fidelity with excellent biofunctionality remains a challenge for developing cell-laden constructs, hindering the progress of extrusion-based 3D printing of conductive polymers. In this study, a highly stable and conductive bioink was developed based on polypyrrole-grafted gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA-PPy) with a triple cross-linking (thermo-photo-ionically) strategy for direct ink writing-based 3D printing applications. The triple-cross-linked hydrogel with dynamic semi-inner penetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) displayed excellent shear-thinning properties, with improved shape fidelity and structural stability during 3D printing. The as-fabricated hydrogel ink also exhibited "plug-like non-Newtonian" flow behavior with minimal disturbance. The bioprinted GelMA-PPy-Fe hydrogel showed higher cytocompatibility (93%) of human bone mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) under microcurrent stimulation (250 mV/20 min/day). Moreover, the self-supporting and tunable mechanical properties of the GelMA-PPy bioink allowed 3D printing of high-resolution biological architectures. As a proof of concept, we printed a full-thickness rat bone model to demonstrate the structural stability. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that the 3D bioprinted hBMSCs highly expressed gene hallmarks for NOTCH/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/SMAD signaling while down-regulating the Wnt/β-Catenin and epigenetic signaling pathways during osteogenic differentiation for up to 7 days. These results suggest that the developed GelMA-PPy bioink is highly stable and non-toxic to hBMSCs and can serve as a promising platform for bone tissue engineering applications.

Abstract
Smart hydrogels with high electrical conductivity, which can be a real source of power while also collecting and storing the diverse sources of energy with ultrahigh stretchability, strong self-healability, low-temperature tolerance, and excellent mechanical properties, are great value for tailored wearable cloths. Considerable effort has been dedicated in both scientific and technological developments of electroconductive hydrogels for supercapacitor applications in the past few decades. The key to realize those functionalities depends on the processing of hydrogels with desirable electrochemical properties. The various hydrogel materials with such properties are now emerging and investigated by various scholars. The last decade has witnessed the development of high-performance supercapacitors using hydrogels. Here, in this review, the current status of different hydrogels for the production of flexible supercapacitors has been discussed. The electrochemical properties such as capacitance, energy density and cycling ability has been given attention. Diverse hydrogels, with their composites such as carbon-based hydrogels, cellulose-based hydrogels, conductive-polymer-based hydrogels and other hydrogels with excellent electromechanical properties are summarized. One could argue that hydrogels have played a central, starring role for the assembly of flexible supercapacitors for energy storage applications. This work stresses the importance of producing flexible supercapacitors for wearable clothing applications and the current challenges of hydrogel-based supercapacitors. The results of the review depicted that hydrogels are the next materials for the production of the flexible supercapacitor in a more sustainable way.

Abstract
A solid polymer electrolyte based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/polyethylene 3,4-dioxythiophene: sodium polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) has been prepared with various concentrations of incorporated silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) by using solution cast approach. The FTIR spectroscopic study revealed the complexation between the polymeric nanocomposite (PNC) and the Ag NPs. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results infer that the semicrystalline phase of PNC decreases as the amount of incorporated Ag NPs increases. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) image revealed that Ag NPs have diameters ranging from 22 to 43 nm. Complex dielectric permittivity and alternating current (AC) electrical conductivity of nanocomposite films have been investigated in the frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 20 MHz at 30 °C. Dc conductivity ([Formula: see text]) values for the nanocomposite films are estimated from AC conductivity plots. The [Formula: see text] value was observed to increase from 1.98 × 10-9 to 2.29 × 10-7 S.cm-1 for the PNC system incorporated with optimal Ag NPs. From complex impedance (Z*) analysis, it has been found that the bulk electrical resistance (Rb) of the PNC films decreases with increasing the Ag NPs content. Therefore, these obtained PNC films have promising applications in energy storage devices.

Abstract
Conductive hydrogel-based flexible electronics have attracted immense interest in wearable sensor, soft robot and human-machine interface. However, the application of hydrogels in flexible electronics is limited by the deterioration of mechanical and electrical properties due to freezing at low temperature and desiccation after long-term use. Meanwhile, flexible electronics based on hydrogel are usually not breathable, which has a great impact on wearing comfort and signal stability in long-term sensing. In this work, an adjustable porous gelatin/polypyrrole/reduction graphene oxide (Gel/PPy/rGO) organohydrogel with high breathability (14 g∙cm-2∙h-1), conductivity (5.25 S/m), mechanical flexibility, anti-freezing and long-term stability is prepared via the combination method of biological fermentation and salt-out toughening crosslinking. The sensor fabricated from the prepared porous organohydrogel exhibits excellent sensing sensitivity, fast response ability, and good endurance, which monitors both weak and intense human activities effectively like finger bending, elbow bending, walking and running, and tiny pulse beating. A pressure sensor array prepared from the porous organohydrogel detects pressure variation in 2D sensitively. Furthermore, the porous organohydrogel is utilized as flexible electrodes for the accurate collection and recognition of human physiological signals (EMG, ECG) and as an interface between human and machine.

Abstract
As a classic flexible material, hydrogels show great potential in wearable electronic devices. The application of strain sensors prepared using them in human health monitoring and humanoid robotics is developing rapidly. However, it is still a challenge to fabricate a high-toughness, large-tensile-deformation, strain-sensitive. and human-skin-fit hydrogel with the integration of excellent mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity. In this study, a flexible sensor using a highly strain-sensitive skin-like hydrogel with acrylamide and sodium alginate was designed using liquid metallic gallium as a "reactive" conductive filler. The sensor had a low elastic modulus (30 kPa) similar to that of skin, a high-toughness (2.25 MJ m-3), self-stiffness, a large tensile deformation (1400%), recoverability, and excellent fatigue resistance. Moreover, the addition of gallium might enhance the electrical conductivity (1.9 S m-1) of the hydrogel while maintaining high transparency, and the flexible sensor device constructed from it showed high sensitivity to strain (gauge factor = 4.08) and pressure (gauge factor = 0.455 kPa-1). As a result, the hydrogel sensor could monitor various human motions, including large-scale joint bending and tiny facial expression, breathing, voice recognition, and handwriting. Furthermore, it might even be used for human-computer communication.

Abstract
Developing recyclable and efficient adsorbents for cationic dyes removal from wastewater is crucial for ensuring green ecology and drinking water safety. Herein, we demonstrated a novel magnetic gel bead adsorbent that was synthesized by employing graphene oxide (GO) modified Fe3O4 as magnetic nanoparticles doped sodium alginate (SA)/chitosan (CS) gel (SA/GO@Fe3O4/CS). The GO@Fe3O4 sample was prepared based on GO by the chemical co-precipitation method, which not only reduced the aggregation of Fe3O4 but also increases the specific surface area of the composite gel beads. The prepared gel beads were used to adsorb methylene blue (MB), neutral red (NR), and safranine T (ST). The experimental results showed that the adsorption capacity of SA/GO@Fe3O4/CS gel beads for MB, NR, and ST reached 21.325 mg/g, 44.654 mg/g and 44.313 mg/g. After five recycles, the removal rates could still reach more than 90% of the original, exhibiting a high recovery rate. Therefore, this paper provides a strategy for the preparation of high efficiency and recyclable cationic dye adsorbents with a large specific surface area.

Abstract
Over the past decades, electronic skins (e-skins) have attracted significant attention owing to their feasibility of applications in health monitoring, motion detection, and entertainment. As a class of soft materials, conductive hydrogels feature biocompatibility, stretchability, adhesiveness, and self-healing properties, making them one of the most important candidates for high-performance e-skins. However, profound challenges remain for achieving the combination of superior mechanical strength and conductivity of conductive hydrogels simultaneously without sacrificing their multifunctionalities. Herein, a framework for rational designs to fabricate conductive hydrogels are proposed, including the fundamental strategies of copolymerization, doping, and self-assembly. In addition, we provide a comprehensive analysis of their merits and demerits when the conductive hydrogels are fabricated in different ways. Furthermore, the recent progress and future perspective for conductive hydrogels in terms of electronic skins are highlighted.

Abstract
Environmentally friendly polymeric materials and derivative technologies play increasingly important roles in the sustainable development of our modern society. Conducting polymer hydrogels (CPHs) synergizing the advantageous characteristics of conventional hydrogels and conducting polymers are promising to satisfy the requirements of environmental sustainability. Beyond their use in energy and biomedical applications that require exceptional mechanical and electrical properties, CPHs are emerging as promising contaminant adsorbents owing to their porous network structure and regulable functional groups. Here, we review the currently available strategies for synthesizing CPHs, focusing primarily on multifunctional applications in energy storage/conversion, biomedical engineering and environmental remediation, and discuss future perspectives and challenges for CPHs in terms of their synthesis and applications. It is envisioned to stimulate new thinking and innovation in the development of next-generation sustainable materials.

Abstract
Electroactive hydrogels can be used to influence cell response and maturation by electrical stimulation. However, hydrogel formulations which are 3D printable, electroactive, cytocompatible, and allow cell adhesion, remain a challenge in the design of such stimuli-responsive biomaterials for tissue engineering. Here, a combination of pyrrole with a high gelatin-content oxidized alginate-gelatin (ADA-GEL) hydrogel is reported, offering 3D-printability of hydrogel precursors to prepare cytocompatible and electrically conductive hydrogel scaffolds. By oxidation of pyrrole, electroactive polypyrrole:polystyrenesulfonate (PPy:PSS) is synthesized inside the ADA-GEL matrix. The hydrogels are assessed regarding their electrical/mechanical properties, 3D-printability, and cytocompatibility. It is possible to prepare open-porous scaffolds via bioplotting which are electrically conductive and have a higher cell seeding efficiency in scaffold depth in comparison to flat 2D hydrogels, which is confirmed via multiphoton fluorescence microscopy. The formation of an interpenetrating polypyrrole matrix in the hydrogel matrix increases the conductivity and stiffness of the hydrogels, maintaining the capacity of the gels to promote cell adhesion and proliferation. The results demonstrate that a 3D-printable ADA-GEL can be rendered conductive (ADA-GEL-PPy:PSS), and that such hydrogel formulations have promise for cell therapies, in vitro cell culture, and electrical-stimulation assisted tissue engineering.

Abstract
Recently, hydrogel-based conductive materials and their applications as smart wearable devices have been paid tremendous attention due to their high stretchability, flexibility, and excellent biocompatibility. Compared with single functional conductive hydrogels, multifunctional conductive hydrogels are more advantageous to match various demands for practical applications. This review focuses on multifunctional conductive hydrogels applied for smart wearable devices. Representative strategies for conduction of hydrogels are discussed firstly: (1) electronic conduction based on the conductive fillers and (2) ionic conduction based on charged ions. Then, the common and intensive research on multiple functionalities of conductive hydrogels, such as mechanical properties, conductive and sensory properties, anti-freezing and moisturizing properties, and adhesion and self-healing properties is presented. The applications of multifunctional conductive hydrogels such as in human motion sensors, sensory skins, and personal healthcare diagnosis are provided in the third part. Finally, we offer our perspective on open challenges and future areas of interest for multifunctional conductive hydrogels used as smart wearable devices.

Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a kind of transition metal dichalcogenide, has been widely studied for its excellent compatibility with most of inorganic nanomaterials. Nevertheless, its microscale and agglomeration limit the performance severely. Therefore, the special structure of V-MoS2 has drawn a lot of interest, which can not only reduce the size of MoS2 nanosheets but also improve the valence electron structure of the materials. In this work, SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers were synthesized by the simple electrospinning and hydrothermal method, and it was applied as a novel material for photodetector. SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, I-T curves, and EIS analysis were used to study the structure and properties of the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers. Simulating under sunlight at a potential of 1.23 V, the prepared composite materials exhibited a superior photoelectric performance of photocurrent density of 21.4 μA and a resistance of 2.3 Ω. These results indicate that the composite of SrTiO3 nanofiber adhered with V-MoS2 has a stable composite structure, good electrical conductivity, and photoelectric sensitivity and is a suitable material for photodetectors. This work provides new ideas for the preparation of self-assembled materials and their application in photodetectors.

Abstract
Understanding photocurrent conversion of layered double hydroxide (LDH) materials will be a key step in the future application of these materials to light-capturing molecular devices. In the present study, ultrathin nickel-iron layered double hydroxide/dye (NF-LDH/dye) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) semiconductor films were prepared using an LB device and deposited on an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate as a photoanode. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the prepared LB semiconductor film materials was tested. A comparative experiment was performed to effectively explore the photoelectric conversion performances of the LB semiconductor film materials. Specifically, the NF-LDH cast film electrode, the dye cast film electrode, and an ultrathin composite LB film electrode were used as typical samples to explore photoelectric conversion performances. The electrochemical workstation was used to study the photocurrent density, linear scanning voltammetry curve, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of LB film electrodes with different layers. The results show that the film electrode cast by LDH alone or dye alone produces weak photocurrent. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the LB film electrode is enhanced due to the different dyes' molecular structures and/or aggregations on the surface of LDH with various morphological patterns. The combined NF-LDH/dye composite LB film photoelectrode can generate a photocurrent that is 2-5 times stronger than the raw material, and the stable use efficiency is more than 92%. Present obtained composite LB films demonstrated a uniform morphology and good photoelectric conversion ability. This work provides a useful reference for the field of LDH semiconductor optoelectronic devices and solar cells.

Abstract
Designing Pt-based alloy catalysts with multicomponent composition and a controllable structure is important to improve the utilization efficiency of precious metals and catalytic activity, but it still face a lot of challenges for simple preparation. Herein, we used insulin amyloid fibrils as templates and their own one-dimensional spiral structure to synthesize Pt-Rh-Pd ternary alloy nanochains under mild conditions. The prepared Pt-Rh-Pd alloy nanochains (NCs) have uniform diameter, and the particle size is only 2 nm. This ultrafine structure increases the specific surface area of the catalyst to a certain extent, and the synergistic effect of the three metals improves the catalytic performance. Compared with commercial Pt/C and binary Pt-Rh NCs, the as-presented Pt-Rh-Pd NCs show better methanol oxidation activity ability and stability against CO poisoning. The peak current density of front sweep is 1.48 mA cm-2, which is 1.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C (0.89 mA cm-2) and 1.4 times higher than that of the Pt-Rh NCs (1.07 mA cm-2), indicating great application potential as high-performance electrocatalysts in fuel cells.

Abstract
In this study, natural polymer material chitosan (CS) and graphene oxide (GO) with large specific surface area were used to prepare a new CS/RGO-based composite hydrogel by using glutaraldehyde (GA) as cross-linking agent. In addition, a CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel was prepared by loading palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). The morphologies and microstructures of the prepared hydrogels were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, TG, and BET. The catalytic performance of the CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel was analyzed, and the experimental results showed that the CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel had good catalytic performance for degradation of p-nitrophenol (4-NP) and o-nitroaniline (2-NA). Therefore, this study has potential application prospect in wastewater treatment and provides new information for composite hydrogel design. New functional CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogels are prepared via a self-assembly process, demonstrating potential applications in catalysis as well as composite materials.![]()

Abstract
Diamiomaleonitrile-based gelators 1 and 2 were designed and synthesized. Toluene and 1,2-dichlorobenzene gels of 1 and 2, respectively sense F− and CN− anions. Both 1 and 2 show phase-selective gelation (PSG) with distinguishable feature. Toluene gel of 1 acts as injectable material and is applied in environmental remediation.
