Abstract
OBJECTIVES 1) Describe sexual and gender minority (SGM) older adults' current practices and concerns for communicating end-of-life (EOL) and daily care preferences in long-term care (LTC); 2) Elicit ideas about adapting a video-based intervention to facilitate communication. METHODS After consulting a community advisory board, we conducted two focus groups with SGM older adults ≥55 years of age recruited from a community-based service organization (n = 4) and a continuing care retirement community (n = 9). We audio-recorded, transcribed, and coded data using directed content analysis methods and summarized results descriptively. RESULTS Most participants were cisgender (n = 12), female (n = 11), lesbian (n = 10), White and non-Hispanic (n = 13); mean age was 70.62. Participants' concerns included discrimination, autonomy, chosen family, and community; they linked daily care preferences with personhood and quality of life. They advocated for building intentional community-based support networks to help peers discuss preferences and produce videos before LTC transition and ensure compliance after. CONCLUSIONS For SGM older adults, asserting and protecting their full personhood, through daily care preferences, is essential to quality of life in LTC. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Video-recorded statements of daily preferences, facilitated and supported by a peer network, could promote culturally competent, person- and community-centered care for SGM older adults in LTC settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite growing recognition of health disparities faced by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (or Questioning) (LGBTQ+) population, significant gaps remain for inclusion of LGBTQ+ content in health professions education, particularly dental curricula. This study aims to address these gaps by investigating the integration of LGBTQ+ content in a midwestern dental school curriculum. METHODS Curriculum mapping and focus group discussions were utilized to identify gaps and recommend integrating LGBTQ+ content into a predoctoral dental curriculum. The Doctor of Dental Surgery program was mapped to identify LGBTQ+ specific content relevant to cultural competency. A focus group of nine faculty members provided insights and recommendations, with data transcribed and analyzed for themes. RESULTS Out of 121 courses, 28 included or had potential for LGBTQ+ content, with 16 already inclusive and 12 involving direct patient interaction. Integration varied, highest in the first year (28.6%) and lowest in the fourth year (5%). Focus group themes included the need for broader awareness and education about LGBTQ+ health, integrating topics into basic and behavioral science courses, and addressing practical clinical skills (e.g., using pronouns). Barriers included personal discomfort, lack of formal training, and potential conflicts with personal or religious beliefs. CONCLUSIONS This study highlighted the need for increased faculty awareness and enhanced inclusion of LGBTQ+ content throughout the predoctoral dental curriculum to prepare future practitioners for culturally competent care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to analyze continuing nursing education actions in the scientific literature in the face of homophobia. METHODS an integrative literature review with structured search in June 2022 in eight databases, using the descriptors Nursing Education, Homophobia, Sexual and Gender Minorities. Final sample consisted of six primary studies. RESULTS continuing nursing education actions are supported by strategies such as use of teaching materials, lectures, case studies and focus groups, addressing content such as gender identity issues and affective-sexual orientation, health disparities and their relationship with homophobia in healthcare settings. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS carried out in various healthcare settings, continuing education actions proved to be successful in raising nurses' awareness in facing homophobia in health services, however, their expansion is necessary to create health spaces that meet the specific needs of these people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) community is diverse, and members have a shared need for culturally competent health care (CCH). Best practices show that culturally appropriate affirmation training (CAAT) bridges the sociocultural knowledge gap between patient and provider, resulting in increased access to CCH. METHOD The pre-/posttest project design used validated tools to measure group changes in knowledge, attitude, and skills before and after delivery of LGBTQ CAAT. The sample included staff interacting with or making decisions on behalf of patients (n = 11) at a nonprofit clinic in the southern United States. RESULTS A Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed an increase in health care team scores for knowledge, attitude, and skills (knowledge, p = .006, r = -.59; attitude, p = .123, r = -.33; skills, p = .005, r = -.60). Qualitative analysis (thematic analysis) (a) showed that participants explored sensitive subjects in a nonjudgmental way; (b) connected the dots between minority stress, bias, and patient-provider trust; and (c) showed increased staff confidence in providing care to LGBTQ patients. CONCLUSION As staff undergo LGBTQ CAAT, access to CCH will increase, health outcomes will improve, and LGBTQ health disparities will decrease. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2024;55(3):121-129.].

Abstract
People assigned female at birth (AFAB) with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities experience notable barriers to high-quality sexual healthcare. In confronting these barriers, patient-provider communication can be a crucial factor, influencing patients' experiences and access to relevant sexual health information and services by determining the quality of care. However, research that investigates this communication among AFAB patients with minoritized social positions is scarce, indicating a research gap regarding the perspectives and roles of healthcare providers in addressing such barriers to care for minoritized patients. Thus, we conducted a qualitative research study, using individual in-depth interviews, to explore the multi-level factors that influence providers' attitudes, knowledge, and skills regarding sexual health communication with AFAB patients with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities. Interpreting study findings within frameworks of person-centered care, intersectionality, and structural competency, we identified three cross-cutting themes. We found that providers frequently drew on their prior professional training, personal lived experiences, and population-level health disparities data when engaging in sexual health communication with minoritized AFAB patients. Participants reported minimal explicit training in anti-racist and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+)-competent care as a significant barrier to engaging in equitable sexual health communication with minoritized AFAB patients, which was exacerbated by many providers' lack of shared social positions and lived experiences with these patients. Providers also frequently applied population-level data to individual patients when formulating counseling and recommendations, which may undermine person-centered sexual health communication. Our findings suggest that critical anti-racist and LGBTQ+-competent provider training is urgently needed, and that health professional education and institutions must be transformed to better reflect and consider the experiences of patients with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Culturally competent and equitable mental healthcare for LGBTQ+ people is critical for addressing mental health inequities for this population. Tools to assess therapists' practice with LGBTQ+ clients are needed for research and clinical efforts related to mental healthcare equity goals. METHODS We conducted a preliminary assessment of the reliability and validity of a novel 28-item self-report measure assessing therapist practice with LGBTQ+ clients. We examined the construct validity using factor analyses, the convergent and criterion validity using intercorrelations with LGBTQ-affirming knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitudes, and the internal consistency using Cronbach alpha. RESULTS Our overall total LGBTQ+ practice measure demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.91) and was strongly associated with LGBTQ+ knowledge (rho = 0.377), self-efficacy (rho = 0.633), and LGBTQ+ attitudes (rho = 0.305). We also identified two subscales: "Commitment to Continued Learning" and "Affirmative Practices", which demonstrated similarly strong internal consistency and tests of validity. CONCLUSIONS Our novel measure of overall LGBTQ+ practice, including two subscales, demonstrated strong reliability and validity. These findings have important implications for practice and research in mental healthcare for LGBTQ+ clients. Future research exploring these measures in relationship to mental healthcare outcomes is recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) health are increasingly incorporated into medical training, there remains limited guidance and opportunities for continuing medical education in LGBT health. It is unclear how participation in LGBT-specific training is distributed across physician specialties and practice regions. Additionally, national data assessing cultural competency training for physicians are scarce and do not delineate LGBT-specific training or training completed prior to, during, or after graduate medical education. METHODS Using data from the 2016 National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services Physician Survey, this study evaluated patterns of post-residency cultural competency training, as well as associations between LGBT-specific training and provider perceptions of patient care outcomes. RESULTS Provider specialty, practice region, and receiving cultural competency training as a trainee were associated with post-residency LGBT-specific training. Surgical providers (odds ratio [OR]: 0.42; confidence interval [CI] 0.25-0.73; p = .002) and those practicing in the South (OR: 0.49; CI: 0.26-0.92; p = .025) had lower odds of completing LGBT-specific cultural competency training while in independent practice. Post-residency LGBT-specific training was associated with provider agreement that cultural competency training improves the quality of care (OR: 2.76; CI: 1.44-5.28; p = .002), patient satisfaction (OR: 2.55; CI: 1.32-4.93; p = .005), and patient comprehension (OR: 2.03; CI: 1.05-3.90; p = .034). CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide disaggregated analyses that nuance the assessment of cultural competency interventions and support a broader effort to increase attention to LGBT health in continuing medical education.

Abstract
Objectives The objective of this study was to complete a scoping review of current literature surrounding health inequities in epilepsy while providing recommendations for future research. Methods During July 2022, we searched MEDLINE and Ovid Embase to find published articles pertaining to epilepsy and health inequities. Initially, authors received training. Authors then screened, and data were extracted in a masked duplicate manner. Studies published within the time frame of 2011-2021 in all countries were deemed appropriate. We screened 5,325 studies for titles and abstracts and then 56 studies for full text. We evaluated the inequities of race/ethnicity, sex or gender, income, occupation status, education level, under-resourced/rural population, and LGBTQ+. To summarize the data and descriptive statistics of our study, we used Stata 17.0 (StataCorp, LLC, College Station, TX). Results We obtained a sample size of 45 studies for study inclusion. The most reported health inequities were income (18/45, 40.0%), under-resourced/rural population (15/45, 33.3%), and race/ethnicity (15/45, 33.3%). The least reported health inequity was LGBTQ+ (0/45, 0.0%). Discussion The findings of our study suggest that gaps exist in literature concerning epilepsy and inequities. The inequities of income status, under-resourced/rural population, and race/ethnicity were examined the most, while LGBTQ+, occupation status, and sex or gender were examined the least. With the ultimate goal of more equitable and patient-centered care in mind, it is vital that future studies endeavor to fill in these determined gaps.

Abstract
Refugees encounter numerous healthcare access barriers in host countries, leading to lower utilization rates and poorer health outcomes. In the US, social inequities and fragmented health systems may exacerbate these disparities. Understanding these factors is necessary to ensure equitable care of refugee populations. A systematic literature review of qualitative studies on US adult refugee healthcare access from January 2000 to June 2021 was performed in accordance with PRISMA. Studies were analyzed deductively and then inductively to incorporate previous findings in other resettlement countries and emergence of US-specific themes. 64 articles representing 16+ countries of origin emerged from the final analysis, yielding nine interrelated themes related to health literacy, cost of services, cultural beliefs, and social supports, among others. The main challenges to refugees' healthcare access emerge from the interactions of care fragmentation with adverse social determinants. Given diverse barriers, integrated care models are recommended in treating refugee populations.

Abstract
AIMS Sexual and gender minorities are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety caused by COVID-19. However, they also have specific variables that have been little studied but which may protect them from this adverse situation. The aim of this study was to find out whether there were differences in socio-demographic and psychosocial variables in two groups of Spanish gay young people (high and low resilience), and predictors of risk and protective factors were examined. METHODS Nine hundred and seventy-nine young homosexuals (389; 39.73% self-reported as women) aged between 18 and 26 years old who experienced mandatory confinement due to COVID-19, completed an anonymous online questionnaire. Hope, perceived self-efficacy, reappraisal index, coping humour, anxiety, depression were assessed along with socio-demographic information. Data were collected between 15 and 26 April 2020. RESULTS Socio-demographic variables that were predictive of highly resilient behaviour included being between 24 and 26 years old, living with LGBTI+ peers and living in big cities, protective psychosocial variables included reframing in reappraising the confinement situation, humour as coping, social support from significant others and self-efficacy. CONCLUSION This is one of the first studies on this subject of compulsory COVID-19 confinement on young homosexuals in Spain. Mental health professionals and organizations should also include work on psychosocial protective factors, not just risk factors, to enhance resilient outcomes in this group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health disparities exist among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations worldwide. However, student nurses and nurse staff have limited knowledge and skills in providing culturally competent nursing care for LGBT patients in Taiwan. OBJECTIVES This paper describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of an online training program for the cultural competence of student nurses and nurses in Taiwan. DESIGN A one-group pre-/post-test study design. SETTINGS The study was conducted in five nursing schools, 10 nursing associations, and 37 long-term care facilities. Two prominent online bulletin boards (PTT Nurse and Dcard Nurse) and one Taiwanese nursing group on Facebook were used to recruit participants. PARTICIPANTS In total, 301 student nurses and nurses participated in the study and responded to pre- and post-test questionnaires. METHODS An online training program for culturally competent nursing care was developed and implemented. The pre- and post-test questionnaires contained three sections: (1) demographics, (2) knowledge of LGBT health, and (3) the Sexual Orientation Counselor Competency Scale. Three open-ended questions were included in the post-test questionnaire to evaluate the online training program. RESULTS The online training program significantly improved the participants' knowledge and cultural competence skills. However, their attitudes towards cultural competence did not change after the program was implemented. Regarding qualitative feedback of the online training program, feedback on the strengths and limitations of the program was summarized under three themes: program content, website design, and online modules. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest the importance of an online training program which may contribute to reducing health disparities among the LGBT population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health disparities experienced by LGBTQ + individuals have been partially attributed to health professionals' lack of cultural competence to work with them. Cultural competence, the intricate integration of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that improve cross-cultural communication and interpersonal relationships, has been used as a training framework to enhance interactions between LGBTQ + patients and health professionals. Despite multiple published LGBTQ + cultural competency trainings, there has been no quantitative appraisal and synthesis of them. This systematic review assessed articles evaluating the design and effectiveness of these trainings and examined the magnitude of their effect on cultural competence outcomes. METHODS Included studies quantitatively examined the effectiveness of LGBTQ + cultural competency trainings for health professionals across all disciplines in various healthcare settings. 2,069 citations were retrieved from five electronic databases with 44 articles meeting inclusion criteria. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed by two authors utilizing the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal checklists. Data extracted included study design, country/region, sample characteristic, training setting, theoretical framework, training topic, modality, duration, trainer, training target, measurement instrument, effect size and key findings. This review followed the PRISMA statement and checklist to ensure proper reporting. RESULTS 75% of the studies were published between 2017 and 2023. Four study designs were used: randomized controlled trial (n = 1), quasi-experimental pretest-posttest without control (n = 39), posttest only with control (n = 1) and posttest only without control (n = 3). Training modalities were multiple modalities with (n = 9) and without simulation (n = 25); single modality with simulation (n = 1); and with didactic lectures (n = 9). Trainings averaged 3.2 h. Ten studies employed LGBTQ + trainers. The training sessions resulted in statistically significant improvements in the following cultural competence constructs: (1) knowledge of LGBTQ + culture and health (n = 28, effect size range = 0.28 - 1.49), (2) skills to work with LGBTQ + clients (n = 8, effect size range = 0.12 - 1.12), (3) attitudes toward LGBTQ + individuals (n = 14, effect size range = 0.19 - 1.03), and (4) behaviors toward LGBTQ + affirming practices (n = 7, effect size range = 0.51 - 1.11). CONCLUSIONS The findings of this review highlight the potential of LGBTQ + cultural competency training to enhance cultural competence constructs, including (1) knowledge of LGBTQ + culture and health, (2) skills to work with LGBTQ + clients, (3) attitudes toward LGBTQ + individuals, and (4) behaviors toward LGBTQ + affirming practices, through an interdisciplinary and multi-modal approach. Despite the promising results of LGBTQ + cultural competency training in improving health professionals' cultural competence, there are limitations in study designs, sample sizes, theoretical framing, and the absence of longitudinal assessments and patient-reported outcomes, which call for more rigorous research. Moreover, the increasing number of state and federal policies that restrict LGBTQ + health services highlight the urgency of equipping health professionals with culturally responsive training. Organizations and health systems must prioritize organizational-level changes that support LGBTQ + inclusive practices to provide access to safe and affirming healthcare services for LGBTQ + individuals.

Abstract
Objectives: To assess training needs for providers who care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/queer questioning (LGBTQ) cancer patients, we conducted a mixed-method survey. During their cancer care experience, AYA cancer patients experience physical, psychosocial, and reproductive health challenges. In addition to these challenges, AYA LGBTQ individuals are a diverse and medically underserved population who experience unique challenges and disparities in medical care. Methods: Health care providers (n = 351) who participated in our reproductive health in cancer training program completed a survey with 28 quantitative items and 4 open-ended items assessing knowledge, confidence discussing reproductive health, and confidence in knowledge specific to reproductive needs and general health needs among AYA LGBTQ patients. Results: Confidence discussing and confidence in knowledge of reproductive and general health needs are lower regarding transgender and nonbinary patients. Nearly half of providers (45%) demonstrated low knowledge, while 38% and 17% demonstrated moderate and high knowledge, respectively. Open comments indicated providers desired more training around the needs of Trans and nonbinary patients, and creating welcoming environments. Conclusions: The majority of our participants demonstrate low or moderate knowledge regarding factors that can influence AYA LGBTQ patient care, suggesting that this is a key area for improvement. Furthermore, improving provider knowledge may subsequently improve confidence in general and reproductive needs of LGBTQ patients, resulting in improved patient-centered care. Improving provider knowledge and confidence may then ultimately help reduce disparities in cancer care among this patient population.

Abstract
Background Despite broad social and policy changes over the past several decades, many LGBTQ+ people face barriers to healthcare and report mistreatment and disrespect in healthcare settings. Few health systems level interventions have been shown to improve sexuality- and gender-related health disparities. Using the Community Readiness Model, we developed and implemented a rigorous assessment and priority-setting intervention at one mid-sized health system in the midwestern US. We evaluated the system's readiness to provide LGBTQ+ healthcare and developed immediate action steps that are responsive to local context. We engaged diverse stakeholder groups throughout the process. Methods Led by the Community Readiness Model, we identified key groups within the health system and conductedstructured interviews with 4-6 key informants from each group. Two trained scorers external to the study team individually scored each interview on a numerical scale ranging from 1 (no awareness of the problem) to 9 (community ownership of the problem) and discussed and reconciled scores. Group scores were averaged for each dimension of readiness and overall readiness, and then triangulated with stakeholders to ensure they reflected lived experiences. Finally, specific recommendations were generated to match the needs of the system and move them towards higher levels of readiness. Results We convened an advisory committee of LGBTQ+ patients of the health system and a panel of local experts on LGBTQ+ wellness. Both groups contributed significantly to research processes. 28 interviews across 6 staff subcommunities indicated readiness levels ranging from "3: Vague Awareness" of the issue, and the "4: Preplanning" stage. Discrepancies across staff groups and dimensions of readiness suggested areas of focus for the health system. The evaluation process led to immediately actionable recommendations for the health system. Conclusions This pilot study demonstrates the potential impact of the Community Readiness Model on improving health systems' readiness to provide LGBTQ+ healthcare. This model combines strengths from community-based research and implementation science approaches to form an intervention that can be widely disseminated and maintain the flexibility and agility to meet local needs. Future research will evaluate changes in readiness at the same health system and test the process in additional health systems.

Abstract
Poor physical and mental ill-health is experienced by many LGBTQ+ people, compounded by a reluctance to access healthcare services. This reluctance is attributed to experiences of heteronormative assumptions and negative attitudes encountered. Despite increasing recognition of the need to include LGBTQ+ health in undergraduate healthcare programmes, inconsistencies and gaps in content, skills development, and assessment are still apparent. The aim of the study was to identify LGBTQ+ health content within nursing and midwifery pre-registration programmes and identify education best practice and innovation. A mixed-methods study involving a quantitative and qualitative design was undertaken. The qualitative findings from a nursing perspective were extracted from the dataset for further detailed analysis and are reported in this paper. Information about the study and an online survey were distributed to 135 Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the UK and Ireland. Individual semi-structured online interviews took place with academics. Qualitative data from 29 survey responses and 12 follow-up interviews were thematically analysed. Eight of the 12 follow-up interviews were held with nursing academics and following data analysis three themes emerged: (i) LGBTQ+ health across the lifespan; (ii) taking the initiative for LGBTQ+ health inclusion; and (iii) identifying and overcoming challenges. The findings highlight the endeavours by nursing academics to integrate LGBTQ+ health within pre-registration programmes to meet the education needs of students and the opportunity to develop curriculum content to address the needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ people across the lifespan.

Abstract
Background The agony and economic strain of cancer and HIV/AIDS therapies severely impact patients' psychological wellbeing. Meanwhile, sexual minorities experience discrimination and mental illness. LGBT individuals with cancer and HIV/AIDS play two roles. It is important to understand and examine this groups mental wellbeing. Objective The purpose of this study is to synthesize current studies on the impact of HIV/AIDS and cancer on LGBT patients' psychological wellbeing. Methods This research uses a systematic literature review at first and later stage a meta-analysis was run on the same review. In this study, data from Google academic and Web of Science has been used to filter literature. PRISMA 2020 Flow Diagram seeks research on LGBT cancer and HIV/AIDS patients. The above sites yielded 370 related papers, some of which were removed due to age or inaccuracy. Finally, meta-analyses was done on 27 HIV/AIDS and 33 cancer patients's analyse. Results The research included 9,898 LGBT cancer sufferers with AIDS and 14,465 cancer sufferers with HIV/AIDS. Using meta-analysis, we discovered the gap in psychological wellbeing scores between HIV/AIDS LGBT and non-LGBT groups ranged from -10.86 to 15.63. The overall score disparity between the HIV/AIDS LGBT and non-LGBT groups was 1.270 (95% CI = 0.990-1.560, Z = 86.58, P < 0.1). The disparity in psychological wellbeing scores between cancer LGBT group and general group varies from -8.77 to 20.94 in the 34 papers examined in this study. Overall, the psychological wellbeing score disparity between the cancer LGBT subset and the general group was 12.48 (95% CI was 10.05-14.92, Test Z-value was 268.40, P-value was <0.1). Conclusion Inflammation and fibrosis in HIV/AIDS and cancer sufferers adversely affect their psychological wellbeing.

Abstract
Background Awareness of the specific needs of LGBTQI cancer patients has led to calls for inclusivity, cultural competence, cultural safety and cultural humility in cancer care. Examination of oncology healthcare professionals' (HCP) perspectives is central to identifying barriers and facilitators to inclusive LGBTQI cancer care. Study Aim This study examined oncology HCPs perspectives in relation to LGBTQI cancer care, and the implications of HCP perspectives and practices for LGBTQI patients and their caregivers. Method 357 oncology HCPs in nursing (40%), medical (24%), allied health (19%) and leadership (11%) positions took part in a survey; 48 HCPs completed an interview. 430 LGBTQI patients, representing a range of tumor types, sexual and gender identities, age and intersex status, and 132 carers completed a survey, and 104 LGBTQI patients and 31 carers undertook an interview. Data were analysed using thematic discourse analysis. Results Three HCP subject positions - ways of thinking and behaving in relation to the self and LGBTQI patients - were identified:'Inclusive and reflective' practitioners characterized LGBTQI patients as potentially vulnerable and offered inclusive care, drawing on an affirmative construction of LGBTQI health. This resulted in LGBTQI patients and their carers feeling safe and respected, willing to disclose sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) status, and satisfied with cancer care. 'Egalitarian practitioners' drew on discourses of ethical responsibility, positioning themselves as treating all patients the same, not seeing the relevance of SOGI information. This was associated with absence of LGBTQI-specific information, patient and carer anxiety about disclosure of SOGI, feelings of invisibility, and dissatisfaction with healthcare. 'Anti-inclusive' practitioners' expressed open hostility and prejudice towards LGBTQI patients, reflecting a cultural discourse of homophobia and transphobia. This was associated with patient and carer distress, feelings of negative judgement, and exclusion of same-gender partners. Conclusion Derogatory views and descriptions of LGBTQI patients, and cis-normative practices need to be challenged, to ensure that HCPs offer inclusive and affirmative care. Building HCP's communicative competence to work with LGBTQI patients needs to become an essential part of basic training and ongoing professional development. Visible indicators of LGBTQI inclusivity are essential, alongside targeted resources and information for LGBTQI people.

Abstract
AIMS Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ +) persons continue to experience discrimination and disadvantage in many areas of life, including healthcare. Studies indicate that LGBTIQ+persons show high rates of chronic physical and mental illness on the one hand, and report negative experiences with health care providers on the other hand. The aim of this work is to point towards barriers and the provision of inadequate health care for LGBTIQ+persons, and to draw attention to relevant gaps in medical education in Germany, needing to be followed by specific actions. METHODS For these purposes, both scientific evidence for the disadvantage of LGBTIQ+persons within the health care system and important innovative interventions in the education of medical personnel are presented and discussed. RESULTS A variety of different - in terms of scope, format, and content - training programs have already been tested and established, mainly in English-speaking regions of the world. In contrast, medical training in Germany lacks such programs. CONCLUSIONS Raising awareness and expanding the training of medical students to include LGBTIQ+health topics is of great importance in Germany.
