Abstract
PURPOSE A significant proportion of cancer patients suffer from chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). This descriptive study aimed to examine patients' experience of CIPN symptoms, daily limitations, involvement of healthcare professionals, and social support. METHODS Cross-sectional data have been collected in the Netherlands via a national online questionnaire comprising closed items only (February 2021). RESULTS Out of 3752 respondents, 1975 received chemotherapy only (i.e., without targeted therapy) and were therefore included. The majority (71.2%) reported symptoms in both hands and feet (e.g., tingling and loss of sensation or diminished sensation). Participants reported most limitations in household chores, social activities, hobbies, sports, walking, and sleeping and least in family/(taking care of) children, cycling, driving, self-care, eating and drinking, and sexuality and intimacy. Many patients indicated that their healthcare professionals informed them about the possibility of CIPN development before treatment (58.4%), and they paid attention to CIPN during and after treatment (53.1%). However, many patients (43%) reported a lack of information on what to do when CIPN develops. Few participants (22%) visited their general practitioner (GP) for CIPN. In general, patients' social environments sometimes to always showed empathy to patients. CONCLUSIONS Symptoms of CIPN are frequently reported and can result in various daily limitations. Support from professionals and peers is crucial in managing CIPN, which is sometimes lacking. Appropriate guidance and support should be provided to patients to decrease the impact of CIPN on daily life. Future research should investigate differences in chemotherapeutic agents and the resulting symptoms and consequences.

Abstract
Individuals with inherited cancer syndromes, such as Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), may be motivated to adopt health-protective behaviors, such as eating more fruits and vegetables and increasing physical activity. Examining these health behaviors among young people with high lifetime genetic cancer risk may provide important insights to guide future behavioral interventions that aim to improve health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We used a self-regulatory framework to investigate relationships among diet and physical activity behaviors and psychosocial constructs (e.g., illness perceptions, coping, HRQOL) in adolescents and young adults (AYAs; aged 15-39 years) with LFS. This longitudinal mixed-methods study included 57 AYAs aged 16-39 years at enrollment), 32 (56%) of whom had a history of one or more cancers. Participants completed one or two telephone interviews and/or an online survey. We thematically analyzed interview data and conducted regression analyses to evaluate relationships among variables. AYAs described adopting healthy diet and physical activity behaviors to assert some control over health and to protect HRQOL. More frequent use of active coping strategies was associated with greater reported daily fruit and vegetable intake. Greater reported physical activity was associated with better quality of psychological health. Healthy diet and physical activity behaviors may function as LFS coping strategies that confer mental health benefits. Clinicians might emphasize these potential benefits and support AYAs in adopting health behaviors that protect multiple domains of health. Future research could use these findings to develop behavioral interventions tailored to AYAs with high genetic cancer risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to identify subgroups of Hispanic/Latino (H/L) cancer survivors with distinct health behavior patterns and their associated sociodemographic, medical, and psychosocial characteristics. METHODS Baseline data were used from a randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of an enhanced patient navigation intervention in H/L cancer survivors. Participants (n = 278) completed the Lifestyle Behavior Scale and validated questionnaires on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), supportive care needs, distress, and satisfaction with cancer care. Latent class analysis was used to determine the latent classes and associated characteristics. RESULTS Three latent classes emerged: class 1 (survivors who increased health behaviors [e.g., exercising and eating healthy] since diagnosis); class 2 (no changes in health behaviors since diagnosis); and class 3 (a "mixed class," with a higher or lower engagement across various health behaviors since diagnosis). Participants in class 1 were significantly more educated and less likely to be foreign born. Participants in class 2 were significantly older and more likely to have prostate cancer. H/L cancer survivors in class 3 had a significantly lower income, were less educated, and reported greater unmet supportive care needs, more distress, and poorer HRQOL. CONCLUSIONS Survivors who report engaging in health behaviors less frequently since diagnosis may be experiencing psychosocial challenges and health disparities. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Hispanic/Latino cancer survivors may benefit from screening for social determinants of health and mental health needs, prompt referral to supportive care services, community resources, and public services, and participating in culturally informed psychosocial interventions to address their unique needs.

Abstract
In our study, we examined the effect of perceived social support on psychological resilience and surgical fear in surgical oncology patients. This study was performed with 139 patients planning to have surgery at the oncology unit of a research and practice hospital in Turkey. The Personal Information Form, the Multi-Dimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, the Brief Resilience Scale, and the Surgical Fear Questionnaire were used in the data collection process. Of all surgical oncology patients participating in our study, 51.8% were aged 45-64 years, 60.4% were male, 41.7% were diagnosed with a malignancy in the last 4-7 months, 66.9% had comorbidities alongside the malignancy, and 21.6% had colorectal tumors whilst 20.1% had malignant tumors in the liver. Surgical oncology patients' psychological resilience had statistically significant relationships with their surgical fear and perceived social support (p = 0.000). It was determined that the independent variable of perceived social support explained 59% of the total variance (R2 = 0.593, p = 0.000) in the resilience dependent variable and 35% of the variance in the surgical fear dependent variable (R2 = 0.353, p = 0.000). The increase in perceived social support of surgical oncology patients increases their psychological resilience. The increasing psychological resilience of the patients and the increase in perceived social support also reduce their fear of surgery. In this context, it is recommended that patients who will undergo oncological surgery should increase their social support in the early period and take initiatives to increase their psychological resilience.

Abstract
Despite improvements in cancer survival, cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity has risen to become a prominent clinical challenge. This has led to the growth of the burgeoning field of cardio-oncology, which aims to advance the cardiovascular health of cancer patients and survivors, through actionable and translatable science. In these Global Cardio-Oncology Symposium 2023 scientific symposium proceedings, we present a focused review on the mechanisms that contribute to common cardiovascular toxicities discussed at this meeting, the ongoing international collaborative efforts to improve patient outcomes, and the bidirectional challenges of translating basic research to clinical care. We acknowledge that there are many additional therapies that are of significance but were not topics of discussion at this symposium. We hope that through this symposium-based review we can highlight the knowledge gaps and clinical priorities to inform the design of future studies that aim to prevent and mitigate cardiovascular disease in cancer patients and survivors.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the perceived benefits of a group-based exercise program for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) undergoing chemotherapy treatment. METHODS In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with all participants (n = 27) at the end of the exercise program (patients, relatives and healthcare professionals). The exercise instructor in charge of the exercise program with CRC patients also collected observational field notes throughout a research diary. RESULTS Three main themes related to exercise as a coping strategy were obtained: (a) physical recovery; (b) psychosocial well-being, and (c) reconnection with their embodied selves and normal lives. Physical recovery included a perceived increase in fitness and a reduction in physical side-effects. Psychosocial well-being included perceived benefits in self-confidence, sense of control, reduced fear, feeling of being useful, sense of achievement, positive thinking and avoiding depression. All the physical and psychosocial benefits helped patients reconnect with their embodied selves, engage in activities practised before the diagnoses, improve their body image, avoid stigma, and increase their social life beyond cancer diagnoses. In this sense, some patients held on to their past selves, trying to keep or recover normality in their lives, while others acknowledged that they might not be the same person anymore, with exercise being part of this new identity. CONCLUSIONS This study shows that exercise is a coping strategy that benefitted CRC patients in several ways related to their physical and psychosocial quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer survivors have to develop coping strategies during the diagnosis and survivorship period. This study aims to identify coping strategies in patients with colorectal cancer, in particular the differences between coping strategies during the disease and throughout survival. It also aims to investigate the impact of some social determinants on coping strategies and critically reflect on the influence of positive psychology. METHODS Qualitative study with in-depth interviews of a purposive sample of 21 colorectal cancer survivors in Majorca (Spain), developed between 2017-2019. Data was analysed using interpretive thematic analysis. RESULTS We observed different coping strategies during the stages of disease and survival. However, striving toward acceptance and adaptation when facing difficulties and uncertainty, predominate in both stages. Confrontational attitudes are also considered important, as well as encouraging positive rather than negative feelings, which are considered unhelpful and to be avoided. CONCLUSIONS Although coping during illness and survival can be classified into common categories (problem and emotion-centred strategies), the challenges of these stages are faced differently. Age, gender and the cultural influence of positive psychology strongly influence both stages and strategies.

Abstract
Objectives: The number of cancer survivors is increasing as a result of advances in detection and treatment. Lifestyle is a significant modifiable factor in the development of cancer. Most studies on healthy lifestyles have been conducted in Western countries. Cultural influences on the pursuit of healthy lifestyles among Chinese cancer survivors remain largely unexplored. The objectives of this qualitative study are to explore the experiences of Chinese cancer survivors in adopting healthy lifestyles, with a focus on their goals, the challenges they face, and the influences of Chinese culture.Design: Thirty-two Chinese breast and colorectal cancer survivors in their first five years after treatment were recruited from a hospital in Hong Kong to participate in eight focus groups. Qualitative content analysis was adopted to analyse the data.Results: The adoption of a healthy lifestyle was a strategy through which the participants exercised choice to restore balance in their health after developing cancer. Diet, exercise, psychological well-being, the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and health/dietary supplements, and attending medical consultations/follow-up visits were the behaviours adopted by the participants, with the goal of improving their health, controlling their cancer and preventing relapse, and managing the residual physical symptoms of their illness. In adopting a healthy lifestyle, the participants encountered challenges such as a lack of reliable and practical instructions from healthcare professionals. Chinese cultural beliefs concerning the nature of food, TCM, minimizing social disturbances, and collaborative control influenced their lifestyle.Conclusions: The cancer survivors adopted a range of healthy lifestyles but encountered challenges. Clarifying the principles of food choice while addressing Chinese beliefs regarding therapeutic food and the use of TCM, clarifying queries about conflicting information, and developing plans according to the needs, and competing demands of survivors can facilitate collaborative control between healthcare professionals and cancer survivors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of the present study is to carry out a multidimensional analysis of the relationship of social support with quality of life and the stress perceived by cancer patients. METHODS The participants were 200 patients with cancer. Data was gathered on sociodemographic characteristics, health, quality of life, social support and perceived stress. RESULTS Frequency of and satisfaction with different sources and types of support are related positively with improvement of quality of life and negatively with perceived stress. The emotional support from the partner and the emotional and informational support from the family are significant predictors of quality of life. Emotional support from the family reduces patients' perceived stress. Satisfaction with emotional support from the partner and with the informational support from friends and family increases quality of life. Satisfaction with emotional support from the family and with informational support from friends decreases patients' perceived stress. Instrumental support and support provided by health professionals are not good predictors of quality of life and perceived stress. Satisfaction with the support received is more significantly related with quality of life and stress than the frequency with which the sources provide support. CONCLUSIONS These results have important practical implications to improve cancer patients' quality of life and reduce their perceived stress through social support. Designing intervention strategies to improve satisfaction with the support provided to patients by their closest networks results in a global benefit for the patient's quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this qualitative study was to explore allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) survivors' perspectives of stresses and their coping strategies, in order to attain a deeper understanding of their experience. METHODS We conducted semi-structured interviews with 20 Japanese allo-HSCT survivors about the stresses they experienced and how they coped. We then conducted a content-driven thematic analysis of the interview results. The interview questions probed stresses and coping strategies related to allo-HSCT. RESULTS We identified 74 stresses across 7 domains: symptoms after transplantation, limitations in daily life, appearance changes, relationship anxieties, work impairment and financial issues, uncertainty and disappointed expectations. In addition, 21 coping strategies were identified across 3 domains: direct efforts to manage problems, adaptive attitude, and seeking and using social support. CONCLUSION By identifying a broad range of stressors associated with allo-HSCT, insight was gained as to the impact of allo-HSCT on survivors' lives. These results provide a foundation for the future development of resources for survivors, their significant others and clinicians. Stressors and coping strategies among allo-HSCT survivors were comprehensively characterised, which will provide useful information for patients and enable healthcare practitioners to provide better care.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to (a) visualize the symptom-cytokine networks (perceived stress, fatigue, loneliness, perceived cognitive impairment, daytime sleepiness, sleep quality, and 13 cytokines) and (b) explore centrality metrics of symptom-cytokine networks in breast cancer survivors who completed chemotherapy treatment. METHODS Cross-sectional analysis of data collected from 66 breast cancer survivors who were on average three years post chemotherapy completion. Perceived stress, fatigue, loneliness, perceived cognitive impairment, daytime sleepiness, and sleep quality were measured with self-report instruments, and a panel of 13 cytokines was measured from serum using multiplex assays. Symptoms and cytokines were simultaneously evaluated with correlations, network analysis, and community analysis. RESULTS Network analysis revealed the nodes with the greatest degree and closeness were interleukin-2, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, interleukin-13, and perceived cognitive impairment. Node betweenness was highest for perceived cognitive impairment and interleukin-2. Community analysis revealed two separate communities of nodes within the network (symptoms and the cytokines). Several edges connected the two communities including perceived cognitive impairment, stress, fatigue, depression, interleukin-2, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, interleukin-8, interleukin-13, and interleukin-10. Partial correlation analyses revealed significant negative relationships between interleukin-2 and fatigue, loneliness, stress, and perceived cognitive impairment (rs = -.27 to -.37, ps < .05) and a significant negative relationship between perceived cognitive impairment and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (r = -.34, p < .01). CONCLUSIONS Our analyses support that perceived cognitive impairment, stress, loneliness, depressive symptoms, and fatigue co-occur and extend the literature by suggesting that interleukin-2 may contribute to the underlying mechanistic pathway of these co-occurring symptoms. Our findings add to a growing body of literature that is shifting to study symptoms as they co-occur, or cluster, rather than individual symptoms.

Abstract
Our purpose was to investigate the possible mediating role of active coping and passive coping between self-reported health complaints and functional limitations, as assessed by an insurance physician (IP), self-assessed work ability and work status in cancer survivors on long-term sick leave. Validated questionnaires were used for self-reported health complaints, work ability and work status. The functional limitations of the respondents were transformed into scales for mental and physical limitations and limitations in working hours. Using LISREL, we constructed a model with coping in a mediating role. Active coping mediated between fewer self-reported physical limitations, more depressive symptoms, better cognitive functioning and more fatigue on the one hand, and more physical limitations and limitations in working hours on the other hand. Passive coping played no mediating role and was associated with more self-reported depressive symptoms only. More functional limitations were associated with lower self-assessed work ability of cancer survivors, and with not being at work, whereas higher self-assessed work ability was associated with being at work. Regarding the role of active and passive coping strategies in cancer survivors on long-term sick leave, more longitudinal research is needed to confirm causality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Social support may play a role in effective stress management and make a positive contribution to the health of women with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the ways of coping with stress and levels of perceived social support of women with breast cancer, as well as the associated factors. METHODS The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 women with breast cancer at a training and research hospital in Turkey. Data were collected using an information form including sociodemographic and disease characteristics, the Scale of Ways of Coping with Stress, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. RESULTS Effective ways of coping with stress were found to be significantly lower in women who were primary school graduates and who did not undergo surgery (P < .05). The women's levels of effective coping with stress decreased with increasing age, and as the score of perceived social support from family and total score of perceived social support increased, so did the levels of effective coping with stress (P < .05). It was determined that social support and age significantly predicted effective stress management (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS Social support given to women with breast cancer is a key reference point in effective stress management, and increased age also has an important effect on women's ability to cope with stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent research among cancer survivors suggests that health behaviors and coping are intertwined, with important implications for positive behavior change and health. Informal caregivers may have poor health behaviors, and caregivers' health behaviors have been linked to those of survivors. AIMS This hypothesis generating study assessed the correlations among health behaviors and coping strategies in a population of lung and colorectal cancer caregivers. METHOD This cross-sectional study used data from the Cancer Care Outcomes Research & Surveillance Consortium. Caregivers ( n = 1,482) reported their health behaviors, coping, and sociodemographic and caregiving characteristics. Descriptive statistics assessed the distribution of caregivers' health and coping behaviors, and multivariable linear regressions assessed the associations between health behaviors and coping styles. RESULTS Many informal caregivers reported regular exercise (47%) and adequate sleep (37%); few reported smoking (19%) or binge drinking (7%). Problem-focused coping was associated with greater physical activity and less adequate sleep (effect sizes [ESs] up to 0.21, p < .05). Those with some physical activity scored higher on emotion-focused coping, while binge drinkers scored lower (ES = 0.16 and 0.27, p < .05). Caregivers who reported moderate daily activity, current smoking, binge drinking, and feeling less well rested scored higher on dysfunctional coping (ES up to 0.49, p < .05). DISCUSSION Health behaviors and coping strategies were interrelated among informal cancer caregivers. The relationships suggest avenues for future research, including whether targeting both factors concurrently may be particularly efficacious at improving informal caregiver self-care. CONCLUSION Understanding the link between health behaviors and coping strategies may inform health behavior research and practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive changes following breast cancer treatment are likely multifactorial and have been linked to emotional factors, biophysiological factors, and fatigue, among others. Little is known about the contributions of modifiable factors such as stress, loneliness, and sleep quality. The purpose of this study was to explore the direct and indirect effects of perceived stress, loneliness, and sleep quality on perceived cognitive function (PCF) in breast cancer survivors (BCS) after chemotherapy completion. METHODS In this observational study, BCS 6 months to 10 years post chemotherapy were recruited from the community. We measured perceived stress, loneliness, sleep quality, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and PCF. Data analyses included descriptive statistics, correlations, and mediation analyses utilizing ordinary least square regression. RESULTS Ninety women who were on average 3 years post chemotherapy completion participated in the study. Moderate to largely negative correlations were found between PCF and the psychosocial and sleep variables (r values ranged from - 0.31 to - 0.70, p values < .0009). Mediation analyses revealed that stress and daytime sleepiness both directly and indirectly impact PCF and that loneliness and sleep quality only have indirect effects (through anxiety and fatigue). CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that perceived cognitive changes following breast cancer treatment are multifactorial and that higher stress levels, loneliness, daytime sleepiness, and poorer sleep quality are linked to worse perceived cognitive functioning. Also, stress, loneliness, and sleep quality may affect cognitive functioning through a shared psychobiological pathway. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Interventions targeting stress, loneliness, and sleep quality may improve perceived cognitive functioning in breast cancer survivors.
