Abstract
BACKGROUND HIV affects 1.2 million Americans, with 20% of new diagnoses being 13 to 24-year-olds. Young adult college students are more likely than the general population of 18 to 24-year-olds in the U.S. to engage in sexual practices that increase their risk of STIs. OBJECTIVES This scoping review explores factors that promote or hinder STD/STI/HIV self-testing among U.S. college students. SEARCH METHODS A scoping review of original, experimental (randomized or nonrandomized), observational (longitudinal and cross-sectional), and qualitative or mixed-methods U.S. research was conducted using OVID Medline, OVID Embase, PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science Core Collection, and Cochrane CENTRAL. English-language studies measured STD/STI/HIV self-test kits and college student testing. SELECTION CRITERIA Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to narrow down articles that addressed barriers and facilitators to STD/STI/HIV testing, and self-testing among college students in the U.S. RESULTS Database searches yielded 8,373 articles. After removing duplicates, 6173 items remained. After independent dual-title/abstract screening, 100 papers were full-text reviewed. Seven retrieved articles were unavailable, and 93 were selected for full-text screening. After reviewing the whole text, 89 papers did not fulfill the inclusion requirements and were deleted, leaving 4 articles in the final analysis. CONCLUSION Additional research on self-testing among college students in the U.S. is urgently required. The results should guide university health policies on the need to cater to the unique requirements of college students by increasing the availability of healthcare and embracing STD/STI/HIV self-testing. This can enhance testing rates, diminish stigmas, and ultimately contribute to wider endeavors to reduce the transmission of infections in the U.S.

Abstract
PURPOSE The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for innovative approaches to delivering care. Self-collect, mail-in sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing could address barriers to in-person STI testing, particularly for youth, who bear a disproportionate burden of STIs. This study sought to obtain youth input on the development of a free self-collect, mail-in STI testing program. METHODS Focus group discussions (n = 5, 45-60 minutes each) were conducted with 28 youth ages 14-19 years old living in Baltimore, Maryland. Focus group discussions were based on a conceptual framework of patient-centered health-care access, and a prototype online program was discussed. Transcribed data were coded thematically. Memos were written to synthesize findings and identify representative quotes. RESULTS Participants noted existing barriers to in-person STI testing barriers including individual-level (e.g., lack of knowledge), interpersonal-level (e.g., stigma), and structural-level (e.g., financial). Although participants expressed concerns about self-collect, mail-in STI testing (e.g., accuracy of self-swabbing), there was overall acceptance of the program, and many felt it would address current barriers to testing. Opportunities to improve the testing program included all four steps of testing process: kit ordering, receipt of the kit and swabbing, post-testing experience, and communication of results and treatment. Specifically, participants desired expanded shipping options to schools, and mail drop-off points such as lockers and local convenience stores; more transparency about testing and treatment; and hearing directly from health-care providers to assuage any concerns. DISCUSSION Self-collect, mail-in STI testing was favorable among youth, and could be a viable option for increasing youth access to STI testing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Young adulthood is a period of increasing independence for the 40% of young adults enrolled in U.S. colleges. Previous research indicates differences in how students' health behaviors develop and vary by gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. George Mason University is a state institution that enrolls a highly diverse student population, making it an ideal setting to launch a longitudinal cohort study using multiple research methods to evaluate the effects of health behaviors on physical and psychological functioning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS Mason: Health Starts Here was developed as a longitudinal cohort study of successive waves of first year students that aims to improve understanding of the natural history and determinants of young adults' physical health, mental health, and their role in college completion. The study recruits first year students who are 18 to 24 years old and able to read and understand English. All incoming first year students are recruited through various methods to participate in a longitudinal cohort for 4 years. Data collection occurs in fall and spring semesters, with online surveys conducted in both semesters and in-person clinic visits conducted in the fall. Students receive physical examinations during clinic visits and provide biospecimens (blood and saliva). CONCLUSIONS The study will produce new knowledge to help understand the development of health-related behaviors during young adulthood. A long-term goal of the cohort study is to support the design of effective, low-cost interventions to encourage young adults' consistent performance of healthful behaviors, improve their mental health, and improve academic performance.

Abstract
In Brazil, the increasing prevalence of HIV infection in young people makes it critical to know its distribution in university communities. In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the impact of STI/HIV testing campaigns on university campuses from 2013 to 2017. The participants took part in rapid testing for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and counseling sessions. A total of 2691 people participated in the campaigns. Of these, 79.4% were single, and 50.3% were women. The median age was 24 years old, and 77.9% of participants had ≥12 years of formal education. Most reported having unprotected sex in the last year (87.4%). The positivity rates for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus were 0.56%, 1.20%, 0.19%, and 0.11%, respectively. The characteristics associated with HIV infection were being men who have sex with men (MSM) (aOR = 12.06; 95% CI = 3.83-37.99) and having <12 years of schooling (aOR = 3.28; 95% CI = 1.03-10.38). Factors associated with syphilis seropositivity were older age (aOR = 1.06; 95% CI = 1.03-1.09), multiple partners (aOR = 2.44; 95% CI = 1.08-5.50), and being MSM (aOR = 5.40; 95% CI = 2.49-11.72). Positivity for hepatitis B tended to decrease with the years of testing (p = 0.023) and for hepatitis C to increase with age (p = 0.035). Our study observed a high vulnerability to HIV and syphilis infection in a university community, which needs an early prevention strategy, including regular testing, continuing sexual education, easy access to condoms, and pre- and postexposure HIV prophylaxis.
