Abstract
Background Young people with chronic health conditions and disabilities rely on the healthcare system to maintain their best possible health. The appropriate delivery and utilization of healthcare services are key to improve their autonomy, self-efficacy and employment outcomes. The research question of our study is directed toward investigating if poor availability and accessibility of healthcare services in general, as identified by unmet needs in healthcare, are associated with dissatisfaction with healthcare. Methods Within a European multicenter observational study, 357 young adults with cerebral palsy aged 19-28 were included. We assessed special healthcare needs, utilization of healthcare services, and satisfaction with healthcare applying the short-form of the YHC-SUN-SF, environmental and social variables (EAEQ) as well as indicators for severity of condition and functionality (e.g., GMFCS) of these participants based on a self-, assisted self- or proxy-reports. We used correlation analyses to explore associations between satisfaction with healthcare and respective indicators related to availability and accessibility of healthcare services as well as severity of the condition. In addition, we included reference values for satisfaction with heath care from young adults with various chronic conditions assessed within population-based surveys from some of the European countries included in the study. Results We identified several unmet healthcare needs, especially for widely used and established services (e.g., physical therapy). Satisfaction with healthcare (YHC-SUN-SF general and subscale scores) was moderate to high and almost consistently better for the sample of young adults with cerebral palsy as compared to reference values for young adults with various chronic conditions assessed within general population surveys). Correlation coefficients between satisfaction with healthcare and utilization of services and (unmet) healthcare needs were low, also with different indicators for severity of the condition or functionality. Conclusion Young adults with cerebral palsy reports of unmet healthcare needs varied largely but showed substantial deficits in some aspects. This seems to have no impact on the satisfaction with healthcare those patients currently receive. We conclude that these are two different constructs and somewhat independent indicators to evaluate the quality of healthcare. Clinicians and other practitioners should consider this distinction when monitoring patient needs in their daily practice.

Abstract
Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors experience barriers to occupational participation following cancer treatment. This article aims to identify the scope of occupational therapy evidence for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. A scoping review of articles cited in CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE (EBSCO), Academic Search Complete, APA PsycINFO, and PubMed was performed. The initial search yielded 391 articles, with eight publications included in the final review. Results revealed a significant lack of age-specific occupational therapy-based resources for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Evidence supports the use of self-management, physical activity, therapeutic exercise, activities of daily living training and adaptation, and app-based coaching to improve client outcomes. Further research is required to determine the effectiveness of occupational therapy services, as well as to establish evidence-based guidelines for practice.

Abstract
Published self-determination programs do not adequately address the needs of autistic adults. We designed a multi-component self-determination program, grounded in the neurodiversity paradigm, to help autistic adults achieve goals to improve their quality of life. The first phase involved 5 days of psychoeducation, practice, and social events; the second phase included 3 months of telecoaching; and the third phase included follow-up. Thirty-four university students coached 31 autistic adults on three evolving goals. On average, participants completed one goal per week. Most participants were satisfied with the program. We found that the program was appropriate, acceptable, and feasible. This program is a promising approach to helping autistic adults gain self-determination skills and improve their quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine differences in community participation and environmental support for youth with and without craniofacial microsomia. METHODS This study involved secondary analyses of a subset of data (n = 396) from a longitudinal cohort study. Multiple linear and Poisson regression analyses and Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney tests were used to estimate differences in community participation and environmental support between youth with craniofacial microsomia and youth without craniofacial microsomia, stratified based on their history of education and health-related service use. Chi-square analyses were used to explore item-level group differences in change desired across community activities. RESULTS Statistically significant differences were found in community participation frequency (ES = -0.52; p < 0.001), level of involvement (r = -0.16; p = 0.010), and desire for change in participation when comparing youth with craniofacial microsomia and non-affected peers not receiving services (p < 0.001). There were no statistically significant differences between youth with craniofacial microsomia and non-affected peers receiving services. CONCLUSIONS Results suggest lower community participation in youth with craniofacial microsomia as compared to non-affected peers not receiving services. This may suggest opportunities for designing and testing interventions to promote community participation among youth with craniofacial microsomia, so as to support their transition to adulthood.Implications for rehabilitationYouth with craniofacial microsomia may have unmet rehabilitation needs related to their community participation.Rehabilitation professionals should pay attention to participation of youth with craniofacial microsomia in activities that place a higher demand on involvement with others.Rehabilitation professionals should appraise participation frequency and involvement of youths with craniofacial microsomia to gain accurate insight into their current community participation.

Abstract
Background: Self-determination skills enable to support an individual’s needs and make decisions to function independently. Improvement of self-determination skills has had a positive result for adolescents at risk of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of occupational therapy interventions on the self-determination skills of adolescent girls at risk of emotional-behavioral disorders.
Methods: In this single-blind control trial study, 14-16-years-old girl students (n=54) at risk of EBD were recruited by cluster sampling from secondary high schools of Tehran, Iran. Youth self-report Questionnaire (YSR) was used to include adolescents at risk of EBD in the study and were randomized into the intervention (n=27) and control group (n=27) by block randomization. The Student Self-Determination Scale (SDSS) and the Self-determination Parent Perception Scale (SDPPS) were used to collect data. Students in the intervention group participated in 8 – once a week- sessions of occupational therapy and the control group received no training. Data were analyzed by repeated-measures analysis of variance (RMANOVA), Bonferroni test and SPSS 16.0 version. The significance level was set at 0.05.
Results: The score of self-determinations (SDSS) increased significantly in the intervention group after the intervention (p<0.001). Although the mean scores of self-determination at follow-up have increased in the intervention group compared to the post-test. No significant differences were found (p>0.05); also, the score of parents' perception of student self-determination (SDPPS) increased but there were not significantly different (p=0.064).
Conclusion: The findings indicated self-determination skills could be taught to adolescents at risk of EBD in OT sessions. Since self-determination has been identified as the necessary skills for adolescents at-risk to transition into adulthood, occupational therapists have an important role in promoting self-determination skills in adolescents at risk of EBD.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Occupational therapy practitioners should understand the barriers faced by young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who are attempting a successful transition to postsecondary work, higher education, community and social activities, and living opportunities so they can better advocate for them and tailor their involvement in the transition process. OBJECTIVE To explore the lived experience of parents of adolescents with IDD participating in the transition process. DESIGN Phenomenological design. SETTING Community-based setting with interviews occurring face-to-face in the participants' home or via telephone. PARTICIPANTS Eleven parents of adolescents and young adults (ages 16-22 yr) with IDD. Outcomes and Measures: Semistructured interviews focusing on parent and family experiences with the transition process. RESULTS Seven themes emerged from the data representing parent perceptions related to the use or lack of person-centered practices, needing more communication from the team, frustration with being the driving force of progress, feelings of defeat, gaps between programming options, positive team collaboration, and planning for the future. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Parents identified person-centered planning, guidance from school staff, and resource sharing as desired practices in the transition planning process. The outcomes indicate that some aspects of the transition process have not changed in several decades. What This Article Adds: Occupational therapy practitioners are optimally positioned to remediate transition issues; therefore, it is essential that they assert their integral role in the transition planning process to increase self-determination and quality of life for all adolescents and young adults with IDD.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Occupational therapy practitioners use structured assessment tools to gather information from adults with intellectual disability (ID) in order to develop the occupational profile, guide occupational therapy intervention, and assess change over time. OBJECTIVE To identify occupational therapy-related tools in the peer-reviewed literature for use in practice with adults with ID. DATA SOURCES Peer-reviewed literature published between January 2002 and January 2018 included in CINAHL, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Scopus. Study Selection and Data Collection: The review included articles that had information on occupational therapy-related assessment with adults 18 yr or older who had primary or co-occurring ID. FINDINGS Fifty-eight articles identified 73 occupational therapy-related assessment tools. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE This scoping review identified a broad range of assessment tools in the occupational therapy domain that are appropriate for adults with ID, some of which may be unfamiliar to occupational therapy practitioners. What This Article Adds: This scoping review provides occupational therapy practitioners with a summary of occupational therapy-related assessment tools for adults with ID and an assessment reference guide.

Abstract
Despite federal mandates to transition students with disabilities to successful adulthood, outcomes have been poor. Although areas of occupational therapy expertise, such as life and work skills, are effective in improving transition outcomes, occupational therapy personnel rarely provide transition services. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of occupational therapy transition readiness services for students with disabilities, 14 to 16 years of age, over two academic years of intervention. Forty-two students and 14 occupational therapy personnel from 10 school districts participated. Assessments were provided to transition teams. Peer groups explored work and life skills and completed long-term student-led projects. Pre-post scores of functional behavior were analyzed using a proportional change index. Students receiving occupational therapy transition readiness services demonstrated statistically significant gains. Occupational therapy holds potential to increase the functional readiness of students with disabilities for transition to a successful and productive adult life.
