Abstract
The establishment of early bedtime routine is essential for children's emotion and behavioral outcomes. Less is known, however, about the longitudinal effects and mechanisms predicting behavioral outcomes through early bedtime routine and emotion regulation in school-age children from low-income families. Thus, the present study examined emotion regulation at age three as a potential mediator in the longitudinal links between early bedtime routine and behavioral outcomes among racially diverse school age children from low-income families. Participants include a subsample of families (n = 2977) participating in the Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project (EHSRE). Structural equation modeling with bootstrapping techniques was used to examine the models. The early bedtime routine index was created from parents' reports at 14, 24, and 36 months. Children's emotion regulation was drawn from interviewer assessments at 36 months and problem behaviors were reported by mothers when the child was approximately at age 10. Results indicated that children with consistent early bedtime routine were better able to regulate their emotions at age three. Also, emotion regulation at age three mediated the associations between early bedtime routine at 14-36 months and internalizing and externalizing behaviors among fifth-grade children. Findings indicated that consistent early bedtime routine helps children to regulate their emerging emotions which in turn has long-term benefits on their emotional and behavioral outcomes. These findings have important implications for pediatricians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and early childhood educators who can provide education and resources to support families in establishing consistent bedtime routine for their young children.

Abstract
Across early childhood development, sleep behavior transitions from a biphasic pattern (a daytime nap and nighttime sleep) to a monophasic pattern (only nighttime sleep). The transition to consolidated nighttime sleep, which occurs in most children between 2- and 5-years-old, is a major developmental milestone and reflects interactions between the developing homeostatic sleep drive and circadian system. Using a physiologically-based mathematical model of the sleep-wake regulatory network constrained by observational and experimental data from preschool-aged participants, we analyze how developmentally-mediated changes in the homeostatic sleep drive may contribute to the transition from napping to non-napping sleep patterns. We establish baseline behavior by identifying parameter sets that model typical 2-year-old napping behavior and 5-year-old non-napping behavior. Then we vary six model parameters associated with the dynamics of and sensitivity to the homeostatic sleep drive between the 2-year-old and 5-year-old parameter values to induce the transition from biphasic to monophasic sleep. We analyze the individual contributions of these parameters to sleep patterning by independently varying their age-dependent developmental trajectories. Parameters vary according to distinct evolution curves and produce bifurcation sequences representing various ages of transition onset, transition durations, and transitional sleep patterns. Finally, we consider the ability of napping and non-napping light schedules to reinforce napping or promote a transition to consolidated sleep, respectively. These modeling results provide insight into the role of the homeostatic sleep drive in promoting interindividual variability in developmentally-mediated transitions in sleep behavior and lay foundations for the identification of light- or behavior-based interventions that promote healthy sleep consolidation in early childhood.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Growing evidence suggests concordance between parent and youth sleep. However, no known study has simultaneously examined concordance among siblings' sleep patterns. This study investigated daily and average concordance in (1) parent-youth and (2) sibling actigraphy-measured sleep, as well as the degree to which sibling concordance varied by sleeping arrangements. METHODS 516 twin siblings (Mage = 10.74, 51% female; 30% monozygotic (MZ) twin pairs, 37% same-sex dizygotic pairs (DZ-ss), 33% opposite-sex DZ pairs (DZ-os)) and their primary caregivers (Mage = 40.59, 95% female) wore wrist-based accelerometers for 7 consecutive nights to measure sleep duration, efficiency, midpoint time, and latency. Primary caregivers also reported on demographics, youth pubertal status, and room-sharing. Two-level multilevel models were estimated to examine daily and average concordance in parent-youth and sibling sleep. RESULTS Daily concordance was observed between parent and youth sleep duration and midpoint; average concordance was found for sleep duration, midpoint, and latency. Within sibling dyads, daily and average concordance was evident across all sleep parameters (duration, efficiency, midpoint, latency), with generally stronger concordance patterns for MZ than DZ twin pairs, and for twins who shared a room with their co-twin. CONCLUSIONS This is the first known study to document concordance among parent-youth and siblings' actigraphy-measured sleep within the same study (i.e., triad). Our findings can help inform the development of family-level interventions targeting daily and overall sleep hygiene.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This paper utilized a person-centered approach to examine whether sleep patterns on school and free days are associated with obesity risk in preschool children aged 3-6 years. METHODS The cross-sectional analysis included 204 children from the Wuhan Healthy Start Project with valid sleep data in at least four consecutive days gathered via Actigraph GT3X+. Based on three domains of sleep duration, sleep onset, and sleep offset, we used latent profile analysis to identify distinct sleep patterns on school and free days separately. Additionally, we conducted latent transition analysis to explore the probabilities of sleep patterns transitions between school and free days. The multivariate logistic regression model investigated the associations of sleep patterns with overweight/obesity (OWO) (BMI ≥ age- and sex-specific 85th percentile) and abdominal obesity (AO) (WC ≥ age- and sex-specific 75th percentile). RESULTS Two sleep patterns were identified for school days: "EL-sc" (early-to-sleep/longer-duration) (n = 119; 58.3%) and "LS-sc" (late-to-sleep/shorter-duration) (n = 85; 41.7%). Similarly, "LES-fr" (late-to-sleep/early-to-wake/shorter-duration) (n = 118; 57.8%) and "ELL-fr" (early-to-sleep/late-to-wake/longer-duration) (n = 86; 42.2%) patterns were identified for free days. LTA categorized the participants into four distinct transition groups, i.e., "EL-sc→ELL-fr" (32.9%), "EL-sc→LES-fr" (24.0%), "LS-sc→LES-fr" (33.8%), and "LS-sc→ELL-fr" (9.3%). Compared with the "ELsc→ELL-fr", the "LS-sc→LES-fr" had a higher risk of OWO (AOR 4.76; 95% CI: 1.39-20.33) and AO (AOR, 2.78; 95% CI, 1.21-6.62), respectively. Neither "EL-sc→LES-fr" (AOR, 1.11; 95% CI, 0.14-6.67) nor "LS-sc→ELL-fr" (AOR, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.03-6.14) was significantly associated with OWO. Likewise, no significant association was observed for "EL-sc→LES-fr" (AOR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.35-2.62) and "LS-sc→ELL-fr" (AOR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.11-2.18) with AO. CONCLUSIONS "LS-sc→LES-fr" pattern is significantly associated with an increased risk of general and abdominal obesity, indicating its obesogenic nature. Furthermore, although not statistically associated with obesity outcomes, "LS-sc→ELL-fr" and "EL-sc→LES-fr" patterns exhibit a semi-obesogenic characteristic. In addition, we identified a concerning trend that preschool children are at risk of transitioning to and persisting in sleep patterns characterized by delayed and shorter sleep. These findings underscore the importance of implementing interventions and strategies to address sleep patterns as a crucial step to minimize the risk of obesity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Sleep disruption is common among postpartum women and is linked with depression. Child care may alleviate parenting stress and protect new mothers against symptoms of depression. METHODS Mothers from the NURTURE study, a birth cohort of 666 women of full-term infants, completed questionnaires during home visits when their infants were 3, 6, 9, and 12 months old. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and the Perceived Stress Scale were used to measure depressive symptoms and stress, respectively. Mothers reported total nightly sleep duration for themselves and their infants, child care arrangements, marital status, and income. We used mixed-effects models adjusting for income, marital status, and child age to examine the indirect effect of infants' sleep on maternal mental health through mothers' sleep and assessed whether patterns differed depending on child care. RESULTS Decreased maternal sleep mediated the association between infant sleep and maternal mental health. When infants slept 1 hour less than usual, mothers slept 7 fewer minutes (B = 0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.01 to 0.27) and reported more depressive symptoms (B = -0.27, 95% CI, -0.43 to -0.11) and stress (B = -0.33, 95% CI -0.58 to -0.09). Child care moderated the indirect effect; decreased maternal sleep was not associated with increased depressive symptoms (and was not a mediator) when mothers had child care (indirect effect = -0.001, 95% CI, -0.03 to 0.03). CONCLUSION Use of infant child care reduced the link between maternal sleep and depressive symptoms. Regular access to child care may be a method to mitigate feelings of depression for new mothers.
