Abstract
Organophosphates (OPs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants, widely used as pesticides in agricultural fields. In addition, they serve as flame-retardants, plasticizers, antifoaming or antiwear agents in lacquers, hydraulic fluids, and floor polishing agents. Therefore, world-wide and massive application of these compounds have increased the risk of unintentional exposure to non-targets including the human beings. OPs are neurotoxic agents as they inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase at synaptic cleft. Moreover, they can fuel cardiovascular issues in the form of myocardities, cardiac oedema, arrhythmia, systolic malfunction, infarction, and altered electrophysiology. Such pathological outcomes might increase the severity of cardiovascular diseases which are the leading cause of mortality in the developing world. Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is the ongoing global health emergency caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. Similar to OPs, SARS-CoV-2 disrupts cytokine homeostasis, redox-balance, and angiotensin-II/AT1R axis to promote cardiovascular injuries. Therefore, during the current pandemic milieu, unintentional exposure to OPs through several environmental sources could escalate cardiac maladies in patients with COVID-19.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Premature birth entails an adverse cardiovascular risk profile, but the underlying mechanisms are insufficiently understood. Here, we employed an unbiased cardiovascular proteomics approach to profile former very preterm-born preschoolers. METHODS This observational study investigated differences in plasma concentrations of 79 proteins, including putative cardiovascular biomarkers between very preterm- and term-born children on average 5.5 years old (53.1% male) using multiple-reaction monitoring mass spectrometry. RESULTS Very preterm-born (n = 38; median gestational age 29.6 weeks) compared to term-born (n = 26; 40.2 weeks) children featured lower plasma concentrations of platelet factor 4 (PLF4; -61.6%, P < 0.0001), platelet basic protein (CXCL7; -57.8%, P < 0.0001), and hemoglobin subunit beta (-48.3%, P < 0.0001). Results remained virtually unchanged when adjusting for complete blood count parameters, including platelet count. Conversely, whole blood hemoglobin was higher (+7.62%, P < 0.0001) in preterm-born children. CONCLUSIONS Very preterm birth was associated with decreased markers of platelet activation among preschoolers. These findings are consistent with reduced platelet reactivity persisting from very preterm birth to a preschool age. IMPACT Former very preterm-born preschoolers featured reduced levels of platelet activation markers. While lower platelet reactivity in very preterm-born compared to term-born infants in the first days of life was established, it was unknown when, if at all, reactivity normalizes. The current study suggests that platelet hyporeactivity due to very preterm birth persists at least up to a preschool age. "Immaturity of the hemostatic system" may be a persistent sequel of preterm birth, but larger studies are needed to investigate its potential clinical implications.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of Astaxanthin (ASTX) on levels and activities of the clotting factors in control rats. Untreated or ASTX-treated rats (10 mg/kg, dissolved in DMSO) were used in this study. ASTX treatment was conducted for 10 days daily. ASTX significantly decreased the platelet count and prolonged values of prothrombin and activated partial thromboplastin time (PT and aPTT, respectively). Besides, it significantly reduced serum levels of vitamin K and the plasma activities and hepatic expression of vitamin K-dependent factors (FII, FVII, FIX, and FX) without altering the activities or levels of all other clotting factors nor plasma levels of fibrinogen or von Willebrand Factor. These effects were associated with a reduction in serum and fecal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides and lower serum levels of LDL-c. In conclusion, ASTX exerts an in vivo hypocoagulant effects mediated by the inhibition of vitamin K-dependent factors. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: The findings presented here are the first that show the ability of Astaxanthin (ASTX) to inhibit coagulation in rats by suppressing the circulatory levels of Vitamin K and decrease the synthesis and release of all Vitamin-K dependent factor (FII, FVII, FIX, and FX). Since some synthetic anti-coagulants had side effects, these findings may illustrate ASTX as a natural anti-coagulant with fewer side effects that require further investigation in more clinical trials. Besides, awareness should be established for those individuals with some bleeding disorders who are being treated with ASTX for other beneficial effects.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder amongst women of reproductive age. Although PCOS is diagnosed exclusively based on reproductive criteria, it is also a metabolic disorder. Insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and dyslipidemia are more common in women with PCOS than in age-comparable women without PCOS. Many of the metabolic abnormalities that manifest in PCOS are worsened by the concurrent incidence of obesity. However, some of these metabolic perturbations occur even in lean women with PCOS and therefore are rightfully recognized as intrinsic to PCOS. The intrinsic factors that produce these metabolic disturbances are reviewed in this paper. The consequences of obesity and the other metabolic aberrations are also discussed. The metabolic perturbations in PCOS patients lead to chronic low-grade inflammation and to cardiovascular impairments that heighten the risk of having cardiovascular disease. Even though many studies have shown an elevation in surrogate biomarkers of cardiovascular disease in PCOS women, it is still not clear to what extent and magnitude the elevation precipitates more frequent and earlier events.

Abstract
Acute coronary syndromes are characterized by increased endothelial activation. The aim of this study was to investigate the behavior of coagulation factors V, VII, VIII and normal inhibitors antithrombin III and protein C during the acute phase of myocardial infarction. Thirty-six patients (27 men, nine women) and 35 normal individuals were studied during the acute phase of myocardial infarction, in the first 24 h. A group of 35 normal individuals was used as a control group. Blood samples were taken within the first 24 h of the hospital admission. The plasma levels of the coagulation factors were measured by the clot formation method, whereas the normal inhibitors were measured by ELISA. In the acute phase of myocardial infarction significant changes occur in coagulant and fibrinolytic factors. A decrease in plasma levels of factor V, antithrombin III and protein C was found in patients with acute myocardial infarction, compared to control group, whereas an increase in plasma levels of factor VII were observed. This study concludes that acute myocardial infarction causes consumption of fibrinolytic factors, whereas the coagulant factors seem to increase when being activated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Our study was undertaken to evaluate the levels of thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) antigen and also its relationship with other hemostasis markers in a group of patients affected with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-under Diane-35 (ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg/cyproterone acetate 2 mg) treatment or not-as compared with a group of healthy controls. METHODS Forty-two women with PCOS and 30 age-matched healthy controls were involved in the study. Group A were on Diane-35 for at least 6 months; group B did not take any drug; group C served as a control group. RESULTS TAFI antigen levels of groups A and B were significantly higher than in controls, but no difference was observed between them. All of the other coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters (including prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen and D-dimer) were comparable between the three groups. CONCLUSION The evidence presented herein suggests that women with PCOS have impaired fibrinolysis, as reflected by increased TAFI. This impairment can contribute to the risk of cardiovascular disease in PCOS. Elucidation of the modifiable mechanisms in PCOS can represent an opportunity for preventive therapy of the cardiovascular risks associated with PCOS.

Abstract
Acute myocardial infarction in patients with normal coronary arteries is a therapeutic dilemma. Coronary artery vasospasm and thrombosis are the most commonly encountered clinic problems and appear in localized coronary segments. The incidence of cardiovascular disease is increased in asthmatic patients. ß(2)-Adrenergic agonists use is associated with increased cardiovascular events. Although myocardial ischemia during asthma has been described in literature, acute myocardial infarction and ventricular fibrillation with normal coronary arteries in patients with asthma bronchiale is a rare entity. Our patient with long-standing asthma bronchiale presented with cardiogenic shock whose coronary angiography revealed multivessel disease and undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Due to ongoing chest pain and hemodynamic instability; an early bypass surgery was planned. A control angiogram was performed before surgery. After intracoronary nitrate administration all narrowings in coronary vasculature disappeared. Symptom relief and clinical improvement was achieved with nitrate and calcium channel blockers later. After 2 months she was readmitted with cardiac arrest due to recurrent ventricular fibrillation and intracardiac defibrillator implantation was performed.

Abstract
The existence of myocardial infarction despite angiographically normal coronary arteries was recognized more than 30 years ago. Since then, various series of such patients have been described, but the aetiology and pathogenesis of the condition are still a source of debate. Evidence exists for a role of coronary vasospasm, thrombosis, embolization and inflammation, per se or combined, in determining the occurrence of myocardial infarction in the presence of angiographically normal coronary arteries. Endothelial dysfunction, possibly superimposed to nonangiographically evident atherosclerosis, may be an underlying common feature predisposing to the acute event. Additionally, myocarditis may explain some of these occurrences. Myocardial infarction with normal coronary arteries is therefore likely the result of multiple pathogenetic mechanisms. Although most reports emphasize the good prognosis of this condition, in general much better than myocardial infarction with coronary artery disease, prognosis is likely variable according to the underlying mechanism. This review summarizes current knowledge on this condition and examines areas of recent progress.

Abstract
The present study aimed to assess the fibrinolytic and metabolic system parameters in obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to compare them in obese PCOS patients and women with simple obesity. We studied 19 obese women with PCOS (age: 25.1 +/- 4.6 years, body mass index (BMI): 34.7 +/- 3.9 kg/m2; mean +/- standard deviation) and 20 age- and BMI-matched ovulatory controls. We measured blood levels of 17beta-estradiol, testosterone, prolactin, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), glucose and insulin. The following fibrinolytic tests were also performed: euglobulin clot lysis time, plasminogen level, alpha2-antiplasmin activity, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 activity, fibrinogen concentration and estimated fibrinolytic activity. Testosterone and LH levels were significantly higher in obese women with PCOS (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively). The groups did not differ with regard to 17beta-estradiol, prolactin, FSH, DHEAS, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, glucose and insulin. All of the fibrinolysis parameters with the exception of plasminogen were comparable between the two groups. Serum plasminogen level was lower in obese PCOS patients than in women with simple obesity (p < 0.05). Euglobulin clot lysis time was positively correlated with insulin (r = 0.88, p < 0.05) in both groups. Our results show that fibrinolysis is not suppressed in women with PCOS and that there is no difference in fibrinolytic activity between obese patients with PCOS and women with simple obesity.

Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The mechanisms through which OSA promotes the development of cardiovascular disease are poorly understood. In this study, we tested the hypotheses that chronic exposure to intermittent hypoxia and reoxygenation (CIH) is a major pathologic factor causing cardiovascular inflammation, and that CIH-induces cardiovascular inflammation and pathology by activating the NF-kappaB pathway. We demonstrated that exposure of mice to CIH activated NF-kappaB in cardiovascular tissues, and that OSA patients had markedly elevated monocyte NF-kappaB activity, which was significantly decreased when obstructive apneas and their resultant CIH were eliminated by nocturnal CPAP therapy. The elevated NF-kappaB activity induced by CIH is accompanied by and temporally correlated to the increased expression of iNOS protein, a putative and important NF-kappaB-dependent gene product. Thus, CIH-mediated NF-kappaB activation may be a molecular mechanism linking OSA and cardiovascular pathologies seen in OSA patients.

Abstract
The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Insulin resistance (IR), hyperandrogenism, and dyslipidemia are well-known cardiovascular risk factors in PCOS. Impaired fibrinolysis could also contribute to the development of CVD in PCOS. Global fibrinolytic capacity (GFC) is a recently developed method, which is reflected by the amount of generated D-dimer when the fibrinolysis of a freeze-dried fibrin clot is stopped by introducing aprotinin. GFC is sensitive to all the factors involved in the process of fibrinolysis. We evaluated whether women with PCOS have any alterations in the GFC and other essential hemostatic parameters. Fifty-nine nonobese, normal glucose-tolerant women with PCOS (age, 22.9 +/- 4.4 yr; body mass index, 23.0 +/- 2.4 kg/m(2) ) and 23 age- and body mass index-matched healthy controls participated. We measured GFC and triglycerides; total cholesterol; HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C); lipoprotein-a; prothrombin time; partial thromboplastin time; thrombin time; antithrombin III; factors II, V, VII, and X; fibrinogen; plasminogen; antiplasmin; and D-dimer. Serum glucose and insulin (at baseline and during a 75-g 2-h oral glucose tolerance test) were also measured, and IR was assessed by homeostatic model assessment. GFC was significantly lower in the PCOS group, compared with the control group (2.49 +/- 1.6 vs. 5.95 +/- 2.43 microg/ml, P < 0.001). All the other coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters were comparable between the two groups. The PCOS group had lower HDL-C and higher IR values. GFC was correlated with testosterone and free testosterone negatively and with HDL-C positively. There was no correlation between GFC and any of the IR parameters. Our results suggest that women with PCOS have impaired fibrinolysis, as reflected by the decreased GFC. This impairment is not related to the IR and may increase the risk of CVD in PCOS.
