Abstract
BACKGROUND Infection prevention (IP) behaviors such as hand hygiene (HH) and mobile device disinfection are important to reduce the risk of infection transmission from both family members and hospital staff to critically ill neonates. PURPOSE To inform the design of educational interventions to improve both patient family and staff IP behaviors, we engaged separate groups of nurses and family members to understand perceptions about the spread of infection and barriers to implementing effective IP strategies. METHODS This was a qualitative study using focus groups to gather data from neonatal nurses and patient family members. Data were triangulated with hospital-wide survey data and analyzed using inductive content analysis. RESULTS Twelve nurses and 4 patient family members participated. Themes related to communication about IP between staff and family members emerged: stakeholders expressed discomfort with the timing and nature of just-in-time HH education. These communication challenges contributed to stress levels within the neonatal intensive care unit. This finding was reflected in the hospital-wide survey. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE AND RESEARCH Steps should be taken to improve communication about IP behaviors between patient family members and frontline staff. Reducing nurse burden of providing just-in-time HH reminders to patient family members through increased IP education may decrease stress and facilitate IP behaviors. This has the potential to decrease infection spread and improve patient outcomes. The development of interventions targeting stakeholder communication is therefore warranted, but additional research is needed to understand the timing and process for delivery of the educational material.

Abstract
RESEARCH PURPOSE This study aimed to develop a preliminary Nurses' Physical Environmental Stress Scale (NPESS) that explores the relationships between the physical environment in the intensive care unit (ICU) and work-related stress among ICU nurses. BACKGROUND Working within the healthcare field is stressful and comes with a high level of responsibility for nurses, especially ICU nurses. The ICU work environment is associated with risk factors such as excessive workload, increased expectations, and long working hours that can lead to burnout among nurses. There is some evidence that environmental design has the potential to prevent or mitigate work-related stress; however, an adequate assessment tool to identify physical environmental stressors or supports for moderating stress is lacking. METHODS To develop the preliminary environmental assessment tool, an exploratory sequential methodology was used. The approach consisted of three distinct phases, including (a) a qualitative content analysis of existing focus group data, (b) a qualitative content analysis of pertinent literature related to environmental assessment tools in a healthcare context, and (c) the development and refinement of the NPESS assessment tool. Tool refinement was based on interviews with ICU nurses. RESULTS The resulting NPESS tool was comprised of seven sections (sounds, lighting, smells, staff respite spaces, staff workspaces, patient rooms, and aesthetic qualities) containing a total of and 81 items that address factors that were identified as potential moderators of environmental stress in ICU settings. CONCLUSIONS The resulting NPESS assessment tool provides a feasible approach for evaluating ICU settings to identify possible improvements to reduce stress among nurses. Future research will be conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the final tool by distributing it to a larger sample of ICU nurses.

Abstract
Background Nurse perceptions of developmental care practices have been researched globally for almost 30 years. Yet, there is a lack of research exploring this subject in the specialised setting of the surgical neonatal intensive care unit (sNICU). This research explores the effect of developmental care education programs on sNICU nurses' perceptions of developmental care. Objective To determine perceptions and attitudes towards developmental care in a specialty neonatal setting. Design Cross-sectional study. Settings Two surgical neonatal intensive care units in Australia. Participants Registered nurses permanently employed at the study sites between May 2021 to April 2022. Methods A modified electronic survey explored sNICU nurse perceptions of developmental care organised around three themes: effects of developmental care on parents and infants, application of developmental care, and unit practices. Associations between site, nurse characteristics, developmental care education and nurses' perceptions were explored using logistic regression [odds ratios (OR) and 95 % confidence intervals (CI)]. Results Of 295 sNICU nurses, 117 (40 %) participated in the survey. Seventy-five percent of respondents had attended a formal developmental care education program. High levels of agreement (>90 %) were reported regarding the benefits of developmental care for parents and infants. Exposure to developmental care education influenced perceptions of its application. Nurses without formal developmental care education were more likely to agree that it was consistently applied [OR:3.3, 95%CI:1.3-8.6], developmental care skills are valued [OR:2.7, 95%CI:1.1-6.8], and that their nursing peers offered support in its application ([OR:2.5, 95%CI:1.1-6.2]. Conclusions The results from our research suggest sNICU nurses have a high level of awareness of developmental care and its positive impacts. Despite differences between the surveyed units' developmental care education programs, the value of developmental care in reducing stress for infants and supporting families was collectively recognised. Future research in this setting should focus on evaluating the application of developmental care in this setting.

Abstract
Introduction Staff turnover is a major obstacle to the success of Saudi Arabia's health transformation agenda and the realization of Saudi Vision 2030. Nurses' and midwives' intentions to remain with the organization are heavily influenced by their sense of structural empowerment and resilience. Objectives To gain insight into the perspectives of nurses and midwives working in the Obstetrics and Gynecology departments of a selection of Saudi Arabian governmental hospitals about structural empowerment, resilience, and intentions to stay in their current positions. Methods Qualitative Descriptive Phenomenology. Purposive sampling was used to choose eighteen nurses and midwives working in the OB/GYN department in three government hospitals in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather the participants' perceptions. Colaizzi's steps were used as a data analysis method. Results The narratives of the selected participants generated five major themes: (a) "nurturing physical and physiological," (b) "developing psychological," (c) "managing financial," (e) "restructuring organizational," and (f) "enriching professional and occupational." Conclusions The emerging major themes highlighted the perceptive elements of nurses and midwives that keep them empowered, resilient, and determined to stay in their organization. A failure to fulfill any one of these elements will affect the others. To improve organizational outcomes, empowerment and resilience must be obtained.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Death is an integral part of neonatal intensive care units' (NICUs) environment and little it is known about NICU's staff death concepts. AIM To investigate attitudes and experiences towards death of healthcare professionals (HPs) working in NICUs. DESIGN Totally 131 participants from six hospitals were included in the study. Research instruments were a questionnaire designed by the authors and the scale Death Attitude Profile-Revised. RESULTS Gender, marital and educational status, frequent contact with end of life neonates and provision of neonatal end of life care during the research period correlated significantly with dimensions of DAP-R. Impact of NICU neonatal deaths on personal life correlated negatively with fear of death and positively with escape acceptance. CONCLUSION Evaluating the interrelationships among personal characteristics, attitudes and experiences towards death among NICU HPs may increase our understanding concerning working with dying neonates and provide direction for educational intervention and continuing professional support.

Abstract
PURPOSE Missed nursing care (MNC) is a worldwide patient safety issue. However, little is known about MNC in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). The aim of this paper is to explore the elements and factors influencing the occurrence of MNC in the NICU in a teaching hospital in Amman, Jordan. DESIGN AND METHODS The study used a qualitative descriptive design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with NICU nurses. Purposeful sampling was used to select the participants and data collection was performed in the period August 2022 to September 2022. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS The participants included 15 female nurses. The majority of the participants held a bachelor's degree in nursing. Five themes emerged from the analysis of data namely: (1) Conceptualizations of MNC (2) Missed care elements in the NICU (3) Reasons behind MNC in the NICU (4) Consequences of MNC and (5) Strategies to reduce the occurrence of MNC. Feeding,changing diapers, monitoring vital signs, and medication administrationwere identified as missed care elements in the NICU. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this research may inform the development of interventions that may reduce missed care incidents in the NICU. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Addressing staff shortages and the provision of necessary materials and equipment appear to be the key factors that may reduce the frequency of MNC. Thus, enhancing patient safety and quality healthcare in this challenging healthcare environment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurse researchers are constantly seeking novel methods of maintaining philosophical congruence while advancing their knowledge of the human condition using paradigmatically diverse means. AIM To provide an overview of the research philosophies underpinning the mixed methods grounded theory (MM-GT) methodology, illustrate its optimal use and introduce a quality-appraisal tool being developed with reference to extant literature. DISCUSSION The utility of MM-GT has been effectively demonstrated in the nursing and health literature. Yet, there are examples of how it has been under-used and sub-optimally applied. This article includes a two-phase MM-GT study protocol guided by a pragmatic research philosophy and best practice recommendations that aims to explain neonatal nurses' professional quality of life. CONCLUSION Optimal use of MM-GT's five essential components - purposive sampling, constant comparative methods with iterative coding and analysis, theoretical saturation, memoing and theory development - combine to produce high-quality, defensible research outputs and new nursing theory. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Research outputs, such as publication and presentation, expounding the multifactorial influences affecting neonatal nurses' professional quality of life will not only benefit the neonatal nursing community but also contribute to the corpus of nursing and midwifery research and enhance the health, well-being and retention of nurses and midwives more broadly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Job burnout among nurses has been a challenging problem in recent years globally and in China. Work-related stress, work-life interference and mental health have been shown to be associated with nurse job burnout. However, the underlying mechanisms remain not fully understood. This study aims to examine the complex relationships linking work-related stress to nurse burnout among Chinese nurses. METHODS Study data were collected from female nurses (n = 2172) in cities of Wuhan, Shiyan and Jingzhou, Hubei Province of China. Job burnout was used as outcome variable, work-related stress was the predictor, work-life interference and anxiety symptoms were mediators. Mediation and chained mediation modeling analysis were used for data analysis. RESULTS The association between work-related stress and job burnout was significantly mediated by work-family conflict (indirect effect[95%CI] = 0.05[0.05,0.06]) and anxiety symptoms (indirect effect = 0.42[0.36,0.49]), respectively. Further, a chained mediation mechanism was observed with work-family conflict and anxiety symptoms consecutively mediated the relationship between work-related stress and job burnout (indirect effect = 0.02[0.01,0.02]). LIMITATIONS The data were collected in one province in central China, so it needs caution when generalizing the study findings to other regions within or outside of China. CONCLUSION Work-related stress exerts effects on job burnout through work-family conflict and anxiety symptoms among female nurses in China. Work-related stress-based burnout prevention must consider both work-family conflict and mental health problems.

Abstract
Background Registered nurses in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) are working under stressful environment caused by the need and commitment to provide care for the critically ill neonates. Therefore, there is an imperative need to know and understand the work-related support strategies that can be adapted for registered nurses working in a NICU in the Tshwane District to enable them to provide quality care for the admitted neonates. Aim To explore and describe the work-related support needs of registered nurses working in a specific NICU situated in the Tshwane District. Setting The study was conducted in a selected NICU in Tshwane District. Method A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, and contextual design was used in this study. In-depth unstructured individual face-to-face interviews were conducted with nine registered nurses working at the selected NICU of an academic hospital. Thematic data analysis was conducted. Results Three themes, namely teamwork between registered nurses and doctors, staff development in the form of peer seminars, workshops and in-service training, and availability of adequate resources within the workplace arose. Conclusion This study revealed that the registered nurses working in the NICU in the Tshwane District are in need of work-related support, as it will improve their well-being. Contribution The contribution of this study will be used by the hospital management to plan strategies that can be adapted for the betterment of the work environment for registered nurses in the NICU and the hospital in general.

Abstract
Purpose: To describe the use of developmental care (DC) rounds as an initiative to ensure the implementation of bedside DC. To measure the confidence of NICU nurses with participation in DC rounds. Design: Evidence-based practice/quality improvement initiative aimed to answer the following questions: What are the implementation rates of bedside DC nursing interventions used or discussed during DC rounds? Do NICU nurses report agreement with education about DC rounds prior to DC rounds starting? Do nurses in the NICU feel confident participating in DC rounds Do nurses with more years of NICU nursing experience feel more confident than nurses with fewer years of nursing experience? Sample: 513 DC rounds and 101 nursing surveys. Main Outcome Variable: Nursing survey Likert score response and implementation rate of DC nursing interventions. Results: Implementation of bedside DC nursing interventions was strong in the NICU. Areas of opportunity include developmental bath, oral care with breast milk, use of scent clothes, kangaroo care, breastfeeding, use of head plan when appropriate, assignment of a primary baby buddy when appropriate, and use of schedule when needed. Nurses reported their confidence in participation in DC during the implementation of this project.

Abstract
Due to the continuous progress of social economy, medical and health technology and the development of disciplines have shown a trend of rapid development. In the current medical environment, quality nursing services are constantly promoted. Nursing staff are dedicated to their work to the best of their ability. Meanwhile, they should be rewarded with corresponding happiness and joy in their work. This study starts from the perspective of nursing management and psychology. On this basis, it investigates the occupational identity and work stress status of nursing staff. At the same time, the data are analyzed, and the relationship between occupational identity and work pressure is analyzed. This article provides a certain theoretical basis and support for the decision-making of relevant nursing managers, and also makes efforts to improve the professional identity and work happiness of nursing staff. In this study, which surveyed 596 rehabilitation nurses, the nurses' total occupational stress score was 74.52, with an average score of 2.12 points. The overall score for professional identity was 102.00, with an average score of 3.40 points. This belonged to the medium level. It showed that the occupational pressure of nurses should be paid attention to by relevant managers. Two of the five dimensions with the highest scores were occupational social support and occupational self-reflection. A negative correlation was found between occupational stress and its dimensions and occupational identity and its dimensions (P < 0.01).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many inpatient healthcare institutions' nurse staffing plans systematically assign fewer patients to nurses when patient acuity is high, but the impact of this strategy on components of nurse stress has not been thoroughly investigated. PURPOSE To examine the relationship between nurse-to-patient ratio assigned based on NICU patient acuity with the Nurse Stress Scale (NSS) subscales Death and Dying, Conflict with Physicians, Inadequate Preparation, Lack of Support, Conflict with Other Nurses, Work Load, and Uncertainty Concerning Treatment. METHODS A survey including the NSS tool items, demographic questions, and a question about nurse-to-patient ratio during the shift was administered. Cronbach's α, linear regression, and Spearman's correlation were used for data analysis. RESULTS Analysis of the 72 participating NICU nurses' survey responses showed fewer patients per nurse during the shift was negatively correlated with stress related to Death and Dying ( P < .001) and Uncertainty Concerning Treatment ( P = .002) subscale scores. This inverse relationship remained significant after controlling for education and years of experience. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE The observed higher stress can be inferred to be due to high patient acuity since fewer patients are assigned to nurses caring for high-acuity patients. Improvements in communication to nurses about patients' medical condition, treatment rationale, and information that should be conveyed to the family could reduce nurse stress from treatment uncertainty. Targeted education and counseling could help nurses cope with stress due to patient deaths. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Interventions to reduce stress related to treatment uncertainty and death of patients among NICU nurses caring for high-acuity infants should be developed and evaluated.

Abstract
ABSTRACT The challenge of nurse staffing is amplified in the acute care neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting, where a wide range of highly variable factors affect staffing. A comprehensive overview of infant factors (severity, intensity), nurse factors (education, experience, preferences, team dynamics), and unit factors (structure, layout, shift length, care model) influencing pre-shift NICU staffing is presented, along with how intra-shift variability of these and other factors must be accounted for to maintain effective and efficient assignments. There is opportunity to improve workload estimations and acuity measures for pre-shift staffing using technology and predictive analytics. Nurse staffing decisions affected by intra-shift factor variability can be enhanced using novel care models that decentralize decision-making. Improving NICU staffing requires a deliberate, systematic, data-driven approach, with commitment from nurses, resources from the management team, and an institutional culture prioritizing patient safety.

Abstract
AIM To determine the level of dignified care provided by critical care nurses and to explore the associated individual factors. BACKGROUND Dignity is a fundamental right of human beings. Critically ill patients are dependent on nurses. Their need for respect and dignity is liable to be neglected in intensive care unit settings. Both critically ill survivors and dying patients suffer mental anguish due to loss of dignity. METHOD This was a cross-sectional study of 526 critical care nurses working at intensive care units for adults in Zhejiang Province, China. Data were collected from February 2021 to May 2021 using the Intensive Care Unit Dignified Care Questionnaire, Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, Jefferson Scale of Empathy-Health Professional, Nurses Professional Values Scale-Revised. RESULTS The total score of dignified care was 67.37 (8.83), with the standard score as 74.07 (12.99). Participants who performed poorly in absolute and relative dignity accounted for 8.4% and 31.2% of the total sample, respectively. Emotional intelligence (β = 0.379, p < .001), empathy (β = 0.319, p < .001), professional values (β = 0.147, p < .001), age (β = 0.075, p = .003), and training in dignified care (β = 0.074, p = .010) were associated with dignified care, explaining 67.6% of the variance. CONCLUSION The average level of participants' behaviors of maintaining patient dignity was medium. Critical care nurses need to improve their ability to maintain relative dignity of patients. Emotional intelligence, empathy, professional values, age level, and training in dignified care were predictors of dignified care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Improving emotional intelligence, empathy, and professional values of critical care nurses and training them (especially less experienced nurses) will enhance their ability in dignified care. This study provides a novel perspective to help nursing managers develop interventions to promote humanized care in the intensive care unit.

Abstract
(1) The specificity of a nurse's work, apart from performing medical procedures, is characterized by intensive contacts with other people. Stress is an inevitable part of a nurse's job and can affect their physical and mental health. Thus, strategies for coping with stress play an important role in improving health or well-being by reducing the level of stress. (2) The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of coping strategies in predicting the overall health of nurses. The study also assessed the impact of personality traits and emotional control (anger, depression, anxiety) on the choice of coping with stress among nurses. (3) The study included 811 nurses from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with an average age of 40 (SD = 9.8), working mainly in hospitals (82%). The research was carried out with a diagnostic survey method, using the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations questionnaire, NEO-Five Factor Inventor, Courtland Emotional Control Care Scale, General Health Questionnaire 30, and a demographic questionnaire. (4) Among the surveyed nurses, the dominant style of coping with stress was the style focused on emotions (MT 0.43), followed by the style focused on avoidance (MT 0.42). There were mental problems among 46.1% of the respondents. Nurses with mental problems according to GHQ-30 were characterized by a high intensity of coping styles focused on emotions (30.2%), avoiding (18.7%), and engaging in alternative activities (32.3%) (p = 0.000). (5) Most of the surveyed nurses have a tendency to cope with stress through an emotional-focused style, which may be associated with a higher level of occupational stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The goal of this research was to understand the use of decentralized nursing stations (DNS), corridors, and huddle stations as places for teamwork and multidisciplinary care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). BACKGROUND This article shares outcomes from a pre- and post-occupancy evaluation that assessed a NICU moving from an open-bay model to a new single-family room (SFR) unit comprised of six, 12-bed neighborhoods. This interdisciplinary research team draws upon the practical expertise of a NICU Patient Care Manager and researchers in Design and Communication to illuminate the research process, results, and lessons learned. METHODS A multi-methodological design, approved by the institutional review board, was employed that utilized an electronically distributed pre- and post-move survey of staff and observational counts of face-to-face interactions. RESULTS Survey results indicate NICU staff have statistically significant higher perceptions of job satisfaction, stress and well-being, and design satisfaction among a variety of professionals after moving to a SFR, decentralized unit design. Consistent with the literature, staff did not have significantly higher perceptions of the decentralized NICU relative to teamwork. Observations revealed frequency of conversations primarily at DNS followed by corridors and huddle stations. When examining the multidisciplinary makeup, outcomes were reversed with huddle spaces holding the largest percentage of conversations. On average, there were 2.72 individuals involved in these interactions, with the corridor seeing the largest average of group sizes. CONCLUSION The outcomes of this study demonstrate that neutral spaces such as corridors and centralized huddle stations should be considered as locations for strategic collaboration and multidisciplinary care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Stress is an inseparable element of nurses' work. It is also the cause of wellbeing disorders and the source of various diseases. The wellbeing and health of nurses has a direct impact on the quality of care and health outcomes for patients. An appropriate stress coping strategy can reduce the impact of stress and mitigate its negative consequences. The COVID-19 pandemic, especially in its initial period, was a source of enormous additional stress for nurses. In Poland and Belarus: two neighboring countries with common history and similar culture, the authorities took a completely different approach to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. AIM The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare how nurses in Poland and Belarus cope with stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHOD The cross-sectional study was conducted among 284 nurses working in hospital in Bialystok, Poland (158) and in Grodno, Belarus (126). Mini-Cope inventory - the polish adaptation of Carver's BriefCope was used for measuring coping with stress. RESULTS Only 17.5% of Belarusian nurses were tested for the presence of the virus and only 4.8% were infected, while in Poland it was 50.6 and 31.0%, respectively. The most frequent used coping strategies were active strategies (active coping, planning) and the least-used were avoidance strategies (behavioral disengagement, substance use) in both countries. Polish nurses significantly more often than Belorussian used support-seeking/emotion-oriented strategies, as well as avoidance strategies. No differences were found for active coping strategies between the both groups. Contact with a patient infected with the SARS-CoV2 virus did not influence the choice of stress coping strategies by nurses in both countries. Staying in quarantine or home isolation favored more active coping strategies, especially in the case of Belarusian nurses. Taking a SARS-CoV-2 test did not statistically differentiate the choice of coping strategies in the Belarusian group. In the Polish group, nurses with a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result used both use of instrumental support and use of emotional support strategies less frequently. SARS-CoV-2 virus infection did not statistically differentiated how stressful situations were handled in Polish group. CONCLUSIONS Polish and Belorussian nurses used similar strategies to cope with stress in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The social and demographic differences between Polish and Belorussian nurses differentiated the choice of coping strategies among the respondents to a greater extent than the completely different approach of the media and authorities to the COVID-19 pandemic in the two countries. The threat of the COVID-19 pandemic does not affect the choice of stress coping strategies by nurses in Poland and Belarus. Being in quarantine or home isolation favored the use of active coping strategies among Belorussian nurses. Polish nurses, on the other hand, were more likely to turn to religion after being quarantined.

Abstract
CONTEXT Caring for dying neonates is distressing for healthcare professionals (HCP)s. Yet, the extent of these effects is poorly understood, compromising support of HCPs. To better understand and support HCPs, a systematic scoping review (SSR) of prevailing data is proposed. OBJECTIVES In mapping prevailing data on the impact of caring for dying neonates on HCPs, an SSR proffers new insights on changes to their beliefs, values, coping, actions, relationships and self-concepts of personhood. METHODS Krishna's Systematic Evidenced Based Approach (SEBA) supports a robust, reproducible review whilst its constructivist approach and relativist lens effectively contends with diverse data sources, facilitating a holistic study. RESULTS A total of 9826 abstracts were reviewed and 69 articles were included. Thematic and content analysis were used simultanously. The four categories drawn from the Ring Theory of Personhood (RToP) complements the four themes identified: Emotional and Physical Difficulties, Coping Mechanisms, Conflict and Recommendations. CONCLUSION In highlighting significant longitudinal effects upon all aspects of their lives, this SSR in SEBA reveals a critical need for timely, appropriate and personalized support. We recommend adapting the RToP as an assessment tool to identify and evaluate the needs of these HCPs. It may also be used to structure a holistic support mechanism. Future studies are required to validate its use and appraise other aspects of support available for HCPs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial and psychological interventions in nurses among intensive care units caring for pediatric patients. METHODS A literature search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL databases, using preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis guidelines. Study design, population characteristics, contents of the programs, measured outcomes, and results were systematically reviewed from 8 selected studies. To estimate the effect size, a meta-analysis of the studies was performed using the RevMan 5.3 program. The effect size used was the standardized mean difference. RESULTS Of 1,630 studies identified, 4 met the inclusion criteria, and 3 studies were used to estimate the effect size of psychosocial and psychological interventions. The primary outcome variable of these studies was stress. The effect of the intervention program on stress was also found to have no effect in individual studies, and the overall effect size was not statistically significant (standardized mean difference = -0.06; 95% confidence interval: -0.33, 0.20; Z = 0.48, p = 0.630). However, according to the individual literature included in this study, after the stress management program was applied as a group, a significant stress reduction was shown in the experimental group (p = 0.021). CONCLUSIONS These results show that psychosocial and psychological interventions were effective in stress management by a group approach. Therefore, it is necessary to develop psychosocial support interventions for stress management of nurses among intensive care units caring for pediatric patients more diversely.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the nurse professional practice environment of neonatal units and its relationship with the levels and main sources of occupational stress. METHOD Cross-sectional descriptive, exploratory, correlational study performed with nursing professionals of neonatal units of four public hospitals. A sociodemographic/professional questionnaire, the Brazilian version of Practice Environment Scale, and the Work Stress Scale were applied. In the analysis, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson chi-squared, Likelihood Ratio, and Mann Whitney U tests were adopted for association among variables. RESULTS Participating professionals amounted to 269. The practice environment was evaluated as favorable by more than half of the sample (63.6%), showing a significant statistical association which was inversely proportional with occupational stress (p < 0.001). The insufficient number of professionals for quality care was the major source of stress for nursing technicians, whereas teamwork with doctors was the predominant factor for the evaluation of environment quality and high stress levels of nurses. CONCLUSION Unfavorable practice environments increase the stress levels of nursing professionals in neonatal units and may compromise patient safety.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health care professionals working in intensive care units report a high degree of burnout, but this topic has not been extensively studied from an interdisciplinary perspective. OBJECTIVE To characterize experiences of burnout among members of interprofessional intensive care unit teams and identify possible contributing factors. METHODS This qualitative study involved interviews of registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, pharmacists, and a personal care assistant working in multiple intensive care units of a single academic medical center to assess work stressors. RESULTS Team composition was a factor in burnout, particularly when nonphysician team members felt that their opinions were not valued despite the institution's emphasis on a multidisciplinary team-based model of care. This was especially true when roles were not well defined at the outset of a code situation. Members of nearly all disciplines stated that there was not enough time in a day to complete all the required tasks. CONCLUSIONS Multiple factors contribute to work-related stress and burnout across different professions in the intensive care unit. Improved communication and increased receptivity to diverse opinions among members of the multidisciplinary team may help reduce stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effects of unit design and shift worked on stress in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses have not been fully studied. PURPOSE To compare stress in NICU nurses who work in single-family room (SFR) or open bay (OBY) units and on nonrotating day or night shift. METHODS Full-time registered nurses (RNs) (n = 72) from a 42-bed SFR and a 131-bed OBY NICU participated in this comparative cross-sectional study. The Nurse Stress Scale (NSS) and within-shift repeated salivary cortisol levels were used to measure stress. The relationship between NSS score and salivary cortisol level was examined using multiple linear regression. Salivary cortisol levels of day versus night shift were compared with mixed-effects linear models. RESULTS NSS scores were similar for SFR and OBY units (P = .672) and day versus night shift (P = .606). Changes in cortisol level over time (P = .764) and final cortisol level (P = .883) for SFR versus OBY were not significantly different after controlling for shift. Salivary cortisol level of day-shift nurses decreased significantly over time compared with night-shift nurses (P < .001). The final cortisol level was significantly higher for night-shift compared with day-shift nurses (P < .001). IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Psychological (NSS) and physiologic (salivary cortisol) stress of NICU nurses is similar in established SFR and OBY units. Cortisol levels are higher at the end of shift in nurses who work night shift and may reflect increased physiologic stress. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Strategies are needed for reducing stress in NICU nurses who work night shift.

Abstract
Background First-line nursing staff are responsible for protecting residents, the most vulnerable population, from COVID-19 infections. They are at a high risk of being infected with COVID-19 and experience high levels of psychological distress. Aims To explore the challenges and coping strategies perceived by nursing staff during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Methods In April,2020, we conducted a qualitative study using in-depth semi-structured interviews with nursing staff. Participants were selected from seven nursing homes in three cities in Hunan Province, China. Results A total of 21 nursing staff participated in the study, including seven nurse managers, seven registered nurses and seven nursing assistants. Three main themes were identified. Different groups encountered different sources of stress and adopted various coping strategies to fulfil their responsibilities. Conclusions Nursing home staff were underprepared for dealing with COVID-19-related challenges. Educational programs to improve the ability to deal with COVID-19 prevention and control are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM A Family-Centered Care (FCC) quality improvement project was implemented with nurses to promote families' and siblings' adaptation during the NICU hospitalization of a preterm infant. The objective of this quality improvement project was to compare the nurses' knowledge and perceptions as well as their implementation of nursing practices to facilitate the families' and siblings' adaptation during NICU hospitalization before and after they received the FCC educational intervention. METHODS AND INTERVENTION A pre- and post-intervention evaluation design was used in this quality improvement project. A convenience sample of 20 nurses was initially recruited and completed the pre-intervention, while 13 completed the post-intervention. The educational intervention included a reflective practice exercise and a face-to-face training session. Nurses completed a self-administered questionnaire with two subscales assessing their knowledge, perceptions, as well as their implementation of nursing practices related to family and sibling adaptation in the NICU. RESULTS The paired samples t-test shows Paired-samples t-test showed that the nurses' knowledge, perceptions and implementation of nursing practices were more favorable following the FCC educational intervention. CONCLUSIONS Findings of this quality improvement project reinforce the value of supporting NICU nurses with educational training programs to enhance their practice. This educational intervention represents an effort to foster the implementation of FCC in NICUs.

Abstract
Background During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, emergency departments and fever clinics nurses acted as gatekeepers to the health care system. To manage the psychological problems that these nurses experience, we should develop appropriate training and intervention programs. Objective To identify the impact of COVID-19 on the psychology of Chinese nurses in emergency departments and fever clinics and to identify associated factors. Methods This online cross-sectional study recruited participants through snowball sampling between 13 February and 20 February 2020. Nurses self-administered the online questionnaires, including a general information questionnaire, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale-14, and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. Results We obtained 481 responses, of which 453 were valid, an effective response rate of 94.18%. Participants who had the following characteristics had more mental health problems: female gender, fear of infection among family members, regretting being a nurse, less rest time, more night shifts, having children, lack of confidence in fighting transmission, not having emergency protection training, and negative professional attitude. Conclusion Effective measures are necessary to preserve mental health of nurses in emergency departments and fever clinics. These include strengthening protective training, reducing night shifts, ensuring adequate rest time, and timely updating the latest pandemic situation.

Abstract
This systematic review aims to determine the extent to which published research articles show the perspective of health professionals in neonatal intensive care units (NICU), as facilitators of family empowerment. Studies conducted between 2013 and 2020 were retrieved from five databases (PubMed, Cochrane, CINHAL, Scopus, and Google Scholar). The search was carried out from January to October 2020. A total of 40 articles were used, of which 13 studies (quantitative and qualitative) were included in this systematic review. Its methodological quality was assessed using the mixed methods assessment tool (MMAT). In these, the opinions and perspectives of professionals on the permanence and participation of parents were valued. In addition, the training, experiences, and educational needs of nursing within the NICU were determined. The crucial role of health professionals in the humanization of care and its effect on the neonate-family binomial was estimated. However, conceptual changes are needed within the neonatal intensive care units. To implement humanization in daily care, family participation should be encouraged in them. For this, it is necessary to modify hospital health policies to allow changes in the infrastructure that facilitate open doors 24 h a day in special services.

Abstract
Introduction: The health of nurses has a direct impact on the quality of care and health outcomes for patients. The length and quality of sleep as well as the intensity of perceived stress have an impact on the health of nurses. An appropriate stress coping strategy can reduce the impact of stress and mitigate its negative consequences. Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between excessive sleepiness and insomnia in interaction with selected socio-occupational factors and stress coping strategies among nurses. Material and Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted among 448 nurses working in hospitals in Podlasie Province in Poland. Mini-Cope inventory - the polish adaptation of Carver's BriefCope was used for measuring coping with stress. Sleep problems were assessed using the Athens Insomnia Scale and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Results: The most frequent used coping strategies were active strategies (active coping, planning). The least-used were avoidant strategies (behavioral disengagement, substance use). Excessive sleepiness affected 38% of surveyed, while insomnia 33%. Excessive sleepiness was most strongly related with behavioural disengagement (R 2 = 18.6%), substance use (R 2 = 17.5%), humour (R 2 = 13.8%) and denial (R 2 = 12.0%) while insomnia with substance use (R 2 = 17.5%) and self-blame (R 2 = 15.9%). Nurses with tertiary education experiencing sleep problems less frequently used the strategy of humour, behavioural disengagement, substance use and religion than with lower education. Nurses working in interventional wards experiencing excessive sleepiness used the strategy of humour, religion and positive reframing less often than those working in other wards while those suffering from insomnia used the strategy of humour more often than those working in other wards. Conclusions: The implementation of avoidant and support-seeking and emotion-oriented stress coping strategies by nurses were associated with the sleep problems. Tertiary education discourages nurses with sleep problems from using avoidant coping strategies and devoting themselves to religion. Education and improvement of the quality of sleep may prevent nurses from resorting to stress coping strategies that have a detrimental effect on their health and well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Occupational stress in neonatal nursing is a significant professional concern. Prolonged exposure to morally distressing patient care experiences and other healthcare issues may lead to worry among nurses. When worry becomes excessive, nurses and advanced practice registered nurses may lose joy that gives meaning to their work. Enhancing meaning in work may have a positive impact on nurse satisfaction, engagement, productivity, and burnout. PURPOSE To explore neonatal nurses' top professional satisfiers and top professional worries and concerns. METHODS A descriptive study was conducted in a convenience sample of neonatal nurses to identify the top professional satisfiers that get them up in the morning and the top professional worries and concerns that keep them awake at night. RESULTS Complete data were available for 29 neonatal nurses. The top professional satisfiers were caring for infants and families, making a difference, witnessing resilience, intellectual challenge of specialty, positive working relationships with colleagues, and educating parents and families. The top professional worries and concerns were staffing, missed care, workload, making a mistake, and failure to rescue. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Healthcare and professional organizations must develop strategies to address occupational stress in today's complex healthcare environment. Identifying professional worries and concerns may help nurses navigate challenging and distressing situations. Furthermore, understanding nurses' professional satisfiers may promote personal and professional resiliency and help organizations create healthier workplace environments. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Future studies are needed to test effective interventions that may promote professional satisfaction and help neonatal nurses cope with occupational stressors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the emotional work of neonatal nurses in a single-family room NICU. DESIGN Qualitative interpretive description. SETTING A single-family room NICU in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. PARTICIPANTS Fifteen nurses who worked in the single-family room NICU. METHODS Data were collected from 110 hours of direct observation and 11 interviews over a 6-month period. We focused on emotional demands using triangulation between interviews and observations to identify themes. Conceptualization of emotional work informed interpretation. RESULTS Four themes emerged: Parents Living on the Unit, Isolation of Infants in Rooms, Nurses' Ability to Form Bonds and Establish Trust With Parents, and Sheltering Nurses and Parents From Stressful Events on the Unit. Parents living on the unit and the isolation of infants in private rooms increased the emotional work of nurses. Forming trust and bonds with parents and sheltering parents and themselves from stressful events on the unit decreased nurses' emotional work. CONCLUSION Care should be taken in NICU design because unit layout can affect the emotional work of nurses. Understanding how neonatal nursing practice is affected by unit layout can help nurses and those who design NICUs to create and promote optimal practice environments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: developing coping strategies to use in stressful situations is an essential nursing skill. Prolonged and constant stress is harmful to nurses' health and leads to organisational inefficiency, high staff turnover and decreased job satisfaction. AIM: to identify nurses' stress coping strategies and determine the relationship between coping strategies and sociodemographic factors. METHOD: a descriptive cross-sectional study using a self-administered questionnaire was undertaken at an emergency department and critical care units at the largest referral hospital in Brunei. RESULTS: problem-solving and positive reappraisal were the predominant positive coping strategies identified. Those working in medical intensive care employed escape-avoidance behaviours more frequently. Married participants exhibited higher levels of confrontative coping behaviours. CONCLUSION: to the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to examine job-stress coping strategies among nurses in Brunei. The authors examined the different strategies and the poor health outcomes associated with using negative coping styles. Future stress management interventions should target staff who employ negative coping strategies to promote positive strategies, enabling them to provide better quality care.
