Abstract
Cannabidiol (CBD), which is derived from hemp, is gaining recognition because of its anti-inflammatory and lipid-modulating properties that could be utilized to treat acne. We conducted experiments to quantitatively assess the effects of CBD on acne-related cellular pathways. SEB-1 sebocytes and HaCaT keratinocytes were exposed to various CBD concentrations. CBD exhibited a concentration-dependent impact on cell viability and notably reduced SEB-1 viability; furthermore, it induced apoptosis and a significant increase in the apoptotic area at higher concentrations. Additionally, CBD remarkably reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, including CXCL8, IL-1α, and IL-1β. Additionally, it inhibited lipid synthesis by modulating the AMPK-SREBP-1 pathway and effectively reduced hyperkeratinization-related protein keratin 16. Simultaneously, CBD stimulated the synthesis of elastin, collagen 1, and collagen 3. These findings emphasize the potential of CBD for the management of acne because of its anti-inflammatory, apoptotic, and lipid-inhibitory effects. Notably, the modulation of the Akt/AMPK-SREBP-1 pathway revealed a novel and promising mechanism that could address the pathogenesis of acne.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Salicylic acid (SA) has been used for treatment of acne of different severity levels. However, there are few researches about the safety and efficacy for treatment of mild to moderate acne, and the improvement of the skin condition by using 2% supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) compared to Davuwen Adapaline gel. METHODS A multicenter, randomized, assessor-blind and parallel-controlled study was conducted. A total of 500 patients (trial group: 249, control group: 251) with mild to moderate (grade I-II) facial acne vulgaris were recruited in this study over a 16-week trial period. Patients in the trial group were treated with Broda 2% SSA hydrogel, while control group treated with Davuwen Adapaline gel once a day. The number of inflammatory papules, comedones, and pustules were counted and the rate of lesion reduction was calculated pre- and post-treatment. Then, the skin physiological indicators, including L*a*b*, TEWL, skin sebum and hydration were measured. Statistical analysis was conducted using SAS 9.4. Significance was set at p = 0.05. RESULTS At the end of 12 weeks' therapy, the regression and markedly improvement rate of the trail group and the control group were 51.01% and 43.10% respectively, and there was no significant difference in the improvement rate between two groups (p = 0.0831). Although, there was no difference in adverse events rate between two groups, the adverse events rate of the trail group was 0.40%, a little lower than the control group (0.80%). Moreover, there was a significant difference in the numbers of pores at T1 between two groups. CONCLUSION Both 2% SSA and Adapaline gel were equally effective in the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. 2% SSA is worth the clinical promotion and application in mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemical exfoliation of the skin is a frequently utilized treatment in dermatology to improve the appearance and health of photoaged skin. Photodamaged skin is especially prone to dryness and irritation. Over-exfoliation with at-home products are partially to blame for the "epidemic" of sensitive skin affecting over half the population. Combining AHA, BHA, and PHA together creates a complementary blend that has the potential to target numerous age-related changes in the skin including the appearance of pores and smoothing skin texture, while firming skin and increasing its collagen and moisture content. OBJECTIVES The following study tested the clinical efficacy of a triple acid blend designed specifically for sensitive skin and measured improvements in signs of photodamage and hydration levels in the skin over time. METHODS Thirty females aged 35-60 with mild to moderate facial lines, wrinkles, sun damage, uneven skin tone/texture, dark spots, or pores were enrolled. Subjects were instructed to use the test article, DWB-EN, on a clean face at night 3 times weekly with 48 h between applications for 4 weeks. RESULTS Statistically significant improvements were noted in all parameters of photoaging clinical assessments (wrinkles, pores, overall appearance, luminosity, visible texture, skin tone evenness, hyperpigmentation) at the end of the 4-week study period. There were no instances of skin irritation throughout the duration of this study despite half of the women having sensitive skin. CONCLUSIONS Overall, this study demonstrated the clinical efficacy and tolerability of DWB-EN for treating photoaging in subjects with all skin types.

Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a multifaceted disease characterized by inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions. Topical combination therapies offer a multifaceted approach to acne treatment, with synergistic effects and a broad spectrum of action against multiple factors in acne pathogenesis in one single formulation. Clindamycin phosphate/benzoyl peroxide/adapalene, a combination therapy consisting of clindamycin phosphate 1.2%, benzoyl peroxide (BPO) 3.1%, and adapalene 0.15%, is a novel treatment, the only FDA-approved triple combination drug that offers effective treatment of acne vulgaris. This review aims to provide information on clindamycin phosphate/benzoyl peroxide/adapalene and review the literature on combination topical acne medications approved in the United States. This search was conducted on topical combination therapies for acne, their efficacy, adverse effects, and impacts on quality of life with a specific focus on the newly approved clindamycin phosphate/benzoyl peroxide/adapalene and its sub-component dyads, along with other combinations. PubMed, SCOPUS, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases were searched for publications in 2018-2023. Primary sources were given priority, and secondary sources such as other reviews were considered to supplement any missing information. It was found that various topical dyad and triad combinations exist for acne vulgaris, including adapalene/BPO, tazarotene/clindamycin, clindamycin/BPO, adapalene/clindamycin, topical tretinoin/azelaic acid, topical tretinoin/BPO, and clindamycin phosphate/benzoyl peroxide/adapalene. Dyad and triple combinations represent a promising, convenient solution for acne management, potentially improving patient adherence due to its single formulation. Clindamycin phosphate/benzoyl peroxide/adapalene exhibited significantly high efficacy in treating both inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions, a minimal side effect profile, although no significant changes in quality-of-life measures. Further research is indicated to assess its long-term efficacy and impact on other acne metrics such as cost, scarring, psychosocial implications, and impact on diverse patient populations.

Abstract
Currently, the application of solvent exchange-induced in situ gel is underway for drug delivery to the body target site. Nitrocellulose was attempted in this research as the matrix-forming agent in solvent exchange-induced in situ gel for acne and periodontitis treatments. The gel incorporated a combination of 1% w/w levofloxacin HCl and 2% w/w salicylic acid as the active compounds. In order to facilitate formulation development, the study explored the matrix-forming behavior of different concentrations of nitrocellulose in N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP). Consequently, their physicochemical properties and matrix-forming behavior, as well as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities, were evaluated using the agar cup diffusion method and thermal inhibition of protein denaturation in the egg albumin technique, respectively. All prepared formulations presented as clear solutions with Newtonian flow. Their contact angles on agarose gel were higher than on a glass slide due to matrix formation upon exposure to the aqueous phase of agarose, with an angle of less than 60° indicating good spreadability. Nitrocellulose concentrations exceeding 20% initiated stable opaque matrix formation upon contact with phosphate buffer pH 6.8. The high hardness and remaining force of the transformed gel indicated their robustness after solvent exchange. Fluorescence tracking using sodium fluorescein and Nile red confirmed the retardation of NMP and water diffusion by the nitrocellulose matrix. From the Franz cell permeation study, these drugs could permeate through neonate porcine skin and tissue of porcine buccal from the nitrocellulose in situ forming gel. Their accumulation in these tissues might enable the inhibition of the invading bacterial pathogens. The developed in situ gels effectively inhibited Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes, and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Furthermore, the formulations demonstrated an anti-inflammatory effect. The low viscosity of LvSa25Nc makes it appropriate for injectable treatments targeting periodontitis, while the higher viscosity of LvSa40Nc renders it appropriate for topical applications in acne treatment. Therefore, the nitrocellulose in situ gel loaded with combined levofloxacin HCl and salicylic acid emerges as a promising dosage form for treating acne and periodontitis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A partition multi-effect precision-care gel facial mask conforming to facial skin characteristics was prepared using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology. METHODS First, the hydrogel matrix and humectant of a 3D-printed gel for facial masks were screened, and three 3D-printed gels of arbutin, hexapeptide, and salicylic acid were prepared with whitening, wrinkle removal, and oil control functions, respectively. Skin irritation tests were performed on the gels. Physicochemical properties such as pH, heat and cold tolerance were evaluated. The efficacy of three 3D-printed gels was assessed by measuring melanin value, wrinkle depression score, and oil secretion. Finally, the facial mask model design and printing parameters were studied, and a partition multi-effect precision-care gel facial mask was printed in line with facial skin characteristics. RESULTS For the 3D-printed facial mask, the gel prescription with 2% hydroxyethyl cellulose gel as matrix and 7% glycerol as humectant was the best. The prepared 3D-printed gel did not irritate the human skin, and its physicochemical properties met the Chinese facial mask industry standard (QB/T2872-2017). We showed that three types of 3D-printed gels containing arbutin, hexapeptide, and salicylic acid could be applied to the corresponding parts of the face to solve different problems, such as facial skin dullness, wrinkles, and oil secretion. Therefore, according to facial physiological characteristics, the facial mask model was designed for the forehead and nasolabial fold, which needs to be anti-wrinkled; the cheek, which needs to be whitened; and the nose and chin, which need oil control. The optimal printing parameters were 0.26 mm nozzle diameter, 90 mm/s printing speed, 30% filling density, 140% wire extrusion ratio, and 0.25 mm layer height. Different skin care effects can be achieved using a three-nozzle printer to print arbutin, hexapeptide, or salicylic acid gel on the mask's forehead and nasolabial fold, cheek, and nose and chin, respectively. CONCLUSION The 3D-printed partition multi-effect care gel facial mask prepared according to the skin features of different parts of the face can overcome the problem of the single skincare effect of the mass-produced facial masks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oily skin is a common concern in the field of dermatology due to its association with excessive sebum production, acne, blackheads, and enlarged facial pores. Therefore, it is in great demand to develop effective cosmetics to manage oily skin. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a novel emulsion containing niacinamide, lens esculenta seed extract, and white willow bark extract for oily skin. METHODS The efficacy of a novel emulsion was evaluated through a 56-day clinical trial. The clinical efficacy of the product to ameliorate acne, blackheads, and conspicuous facial pores was assessed on 30 subjects with oily skin by VISIA, PRIMOS, professional dermatologist evaluations, and subject self-assessment. RESULTS In the clinical trial, the participants showed high satisfaction with the emulsion's efficacy, reporting significant improvement in skin sebum secretion, acne, facial pores, and blackheads. The efficacy of the novel emulsion was further validated through VISIA and PRIMOS measurements, along with professional dermatologist evaluations. CONCLUSION Our results showed that the novel emulsion containing three active ingredients could effectively improve acne, blackheads, and conspicuous facial pores.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Acne vulgaris (acne) is characterized by both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) 5% is approved to treat acne but may cause skin irritation and/or contact allergy. OBJECTIVES To compare the benefit in acne of a multitargeted dermocosmetic cream containing salicylic acid, lipohydroxy acid, niacinamide, 2-oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol, piroctone olamine, zinc, Aqua posae filiformis, and thermal spring water (DC-Eff) to BPO 5% gel. MATERIALS AND METHODS 150 Caucasian subjects (50% female) aged between 18 and 40 years, with mild to moderate acne according to the GEA (Global Evaluation of Acne) grading system were randomized into two parallel groups (DC-Eff or BPO to be applied twice daily for 56 days). IGA (investigator global assessment), GEA, lesion count, clinical signs and symptoms, and subject assessment were evaluated at baseline, and after 28 and 56 days (D28 and D56) of treatment. RESULTS The responder analyses of the IGA and GEA scores showed that 62.2% and 47.3%, respectively, in the DC-Eff, compared with 50.0% and 36.5%, respectively, in the BPO, had improved by at least one point at D56. Inflammatory, non-inflammatory, and total lesion counts significantly (p < 0.0001) decreased with both products from baseline, with no between-group difference. Subjects considered that their skin was smoother and that DC-Eff was easy to apply. DC-Eff was better tolerated than BPO. CONCLUSIONS DC-Eff applied twice daily is as beneficial as BPO in improving mild-to-moderate acne. DC-Eff was better tolerated than BPO and highly appreciated.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition associated with a significant health and economic burden from costs and loss of productivity due to seeking medical treatment. The disease encompasses multiple phenotypic manifestations involving a complex and multi-variate pathogenesis. Although the pathophysiology of rosacea is not completely understood, ongoing research is continually elucidating its mechanisms. In this review, current concepts of rosacea pathogenesis will be addressed which involve skin barrier and permeability dysfunction, the innate and adaptive immune systems, and the neurovascular system. More specifically, the cathelicidin pathway, transient potential receptor channels, mast cells, and the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway are various targets of current pharmacologic regimens. Future therapies may seek different mechanisms to act on current treatment targets, like the potential use of JAK/STAT inhibitors in ameliorating skin barrier dysfunction or TLR antagonists in alleviating cathelicidin mediated inflammation. Other potential treatments aim for entirely different molecular targets such as microvesicle particle mediated local and systemic inflammation. Ultimately rosacea is associated with a significant health and economic burden which warrants deeper research into its pathogenesis and resultant new treatment discovery.

Abstract
Oil Red O (ORO) staining is a commonly used experimental technique to detect lipid content in cells or tissues. Freshly prepared ORO in 60% isopropanol is the most widely used method at present. However, isopropanol is volatile and harmful to the human body. It will also affect the interpretation of the results due to the formation of crystals and non-specific diffuse staining. In this paper, by screening and validation, we report a salicylic acid ethanol solution (containing 50% ethanol, 5%-10% salicylic acid) for the preparation of ORO solution, which has a better staining effect on lipid staining in cells and tissues, with a clean background and short dyeing time. What's more, this ORO solution is non-toxic, convenient to prepare, and can be stored for a long time. Therefore, it is reliable, easy to operate, and can be widely popularized and applied in laboratories.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Patients with acne usually develops acne scars subsequently, early intervention of scars is crucial in acne management. 1927nm fractional thulium fiber laser (TFL) is effective in scars improvement and chemical peels with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) can be applied for the treatment of acne. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of TFL monotherapy versus the concomitant application of TFL and 30% SSA on acne and acne scars. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-three patients with acne and acne scars were enrolled, and two sides of the face were randomly divided to receive either TFL and SSA chemical peeling or TFL. Four sessions of TFL treatments were applied with 4-week intervals for both sides, SSA combined treatment side received eight SSA chemical peels with 2-week intervals additionally. GAGS, ECCA score, the number of acne lesions, melanin index (MI) and erythema index (EI), transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and side effects were recorded at Weeks 0, 4, 8, 12, and 18. Satisfaction of patients was recorded on both sides at the end of the study. RESULTS Thirty patients completed the study. Both control group (TFL monotherapy) and SSA group (TFL combined with SSA chemical peeling) significantly improved GAGS and ECCA score. SSA group showed higher efficacy in terms of GAGS and ECCA score, acne lesion count, TEWL, MI, EI, and satisfaction than control group. All the side effects were temporary and tolerable, no adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSIONS Both TFL and the TFL combined with 30% SSA chemical peeling are safe and effective for the treatment and prevention of acne and acne scars, though the combined group has higher efficacy.

Abstract
Human skin pigmentation and melanin synthesis are incredibly variable, and are impacted by genetics, UV exposure, and some drugs. Patients' physical appearance, psychological health, and social functioning are all impacted by a sizable number of skin conditions that cause pigmentary abnormalities. Hyperpigmentation, where pigment appears to overflow, and hypopigmentation, where pigment is reduced, are the two major classifications of skin pigmentation. Albinism, melasma, vitiligo, Addison's disease, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can be brought on by eczema, acne vulgaris, and drug interactions, are the most common skin pigmentation disorders in clinical practice. Anti-inflammatory medications, antioxidants, and medications that inhibit tyrosinase, which prevents the production of melanin, are all possible treatments for pigmentation problems. Skin pigmentation can be treated orally and topically with medications, herbal remedies, and cosmetic products, but a doctor should always be consulted before beginning any new medicine or treatment plan. This review article explores the numerous types of pigmentation problems, their causes, and treatments, as well as the 25 plants, 4 marine species, and 17 topical and oral medications now on the market that have been clinically tested to treat skin diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with immunological dysfunction. Supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) has the properties of keratolytic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. However, the mechanism of SSA in the treatment of rosacea is still unclear. OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficiencies and molecular mechanisms of SSA in rosacea. METHODS Forty mice were randomly divided into four groups (10 in each group): control, LL-37, LL-37 + azelaic acid (AzA), and LL-37 + SSA. Forty μl LL-37 (320 μM) was administered intradermally into the dorsal skin of the mice in the latter 3 groups every 12 h and 4 times altogether (0 h, 12 h, 24 h, 36 h). Twenty % AzA was applied on the eruptions after the first and third LL-37 injection (0 h, 24 h) in LL-37 + AzA group, while 30 % SSA was applied after the first injection (0 h) in LL-37 + SSA group. The redness score and redness area were evaluated. The skin barrier function was measured by the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and pH. The infiltration of inflammatory cells was evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin staining, and the inflammatory biomarkers were analyzed by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS SSA alleviated LL-37-induced rosacea-like inflammation. The increased TEWL and pH induced by LL-37 were also reversed by SSA. In addition, SSA reduced inflammatory cell infiltration and suppressed the production of Toll-like receptor 2, Matrix metallopeptidase 9, kallikrein 5, LL-37 associated with rosacea, and inhibited LL-37-induced NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3)-mediated inflammasome activation in mice. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicated that SSA ameliorated LL-37-induced rosacea-like lesions by suppressing NLRP3-mediated inflammasome activation in mice.

Abstract
The treatment of acne vulgaris and enlarged pore remains challenging. The 30% supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) is a newly developed form of SA which affects pathogenic factors of acne. Non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) promotes remodeling and decreases sebum excretion with minimal side effect. The current study was aimed to evaluate the sequential modality with 30% SSA followed by 1565-nm NAFL on facial acne and subsequent enlarged pores. A 20-week-duration prospective study was performed. Consecutive 4 sessions of 30% SSA treatment were conducted, at 2-week intervals. Two weeks after the last session of 30% SSA, 3 sessions of 1565-nm NAFL treatment were applied, at 4-week intervals. The noninvasive devices measured scores of red areas and pores, cuticle moisture, and sebum secretion. The main subjective evaluation was global acne grading system (GAGS). The side effects were recorded. Compared to baseline, the scores of red areas and pores, sebum secretion, and GAGS significantly decreased after series sessions of 30% SSA treatments (P < 0.05). The sequential application of 1565-nm NAFL maintained the good results (P < 0.05, comparing to baseline) and even further decreased the sebum secretion (P < 0.05, comparing to SSA). The cuticle moisture remained unchanged during whole period, and side effects including tingling sensation, pain, erythema, and edema were quickly reversible and acceptable. The significant improvements of acne and pores were produced by 30% SSA, and 1565-nm NAFL inhibited the sebum secretion and maintained the efficacies of 30% SSA. The sequential modality of 30% SSA followed by 1565-nm NAFL was an alternative choice for acne vulgaris companied with enlarged pores.

Abstract
Purpose Acne is a skin condition of the pilosebaceous unit that affects mainly the face, chest and trunk. Approximately 50% of subjects with facial acne also have acne of the trunk. This study investigated the clinical benefit of a cleansing gel containing salicylic acid 2%, zinc gluconate 0.2% and lipohydroxy acid 0.05% in truncal acne after 84 days of daily use. Materials and Methods A single center, open label, non-randomized study with 51 subjects with mild to moderate truncal acne was conducted. Thirty-five (35) subjects completed the study; mean age was 23 years. Inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions, Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and local tolerance were assessed at baseline, Day 42 and Day 84 and total lesion count was calculated. Results The total lesion count was significantly reduced (p<0.05) after 42 days (-21.5%) and 84 days (-56.3%). Non-inflammatory lesions were significantly decreased after 84 days (-64.0%) only, while inflammatory lesions were decreased at Day 42 (-29.2%), and Day 84 (-48.2%). A statistically significant skin barrier improvement was observed at Day 84 (-21.26%). No adverse events or relevant local intolerance were reported. Conclusion The use of the cleansing gel studied was effective in improving mild to moderate truncal acne and contributed to the skin barrier improvement. The product was well tolerated. Abstract
Acne vulgaris, the most common form of acne, is characterized by a mixed eruption of inflammatory and noninflammatory skin lesions primarily affecting the face, upper arms, and trunk. The pathogenesis of acne is multifactorial and includes abnormal keratinization and plugging of the hair follicles, increased sebum production, proliferation and activation of Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes; formerly Propionibacterium acnes, P. acnes), and finally inflammation. Recent studies have found that cannabidiol (CBD) may be beneficial in the treatment of acne. The aim of this study was to explore natural plant extracts that, when combined with CBD, act synergistically to treat acne by targeting different pathogenic factors while minimizing side effects. The first stage of the study investigated the capacity of different plant extracts and plant extract combinations to reduce C. acnes growth and decrease IL-1β and TNFα secretion from U937 cells. The results found that Centella asiatica triterpene (CAT) extract as well as silymarin (from Silybum marianum fruit extract) had significantly superior anti-inflammatory activity when combined with CBD compared to either ingredient alone. In addition, the CAT extract helped potentiate CBD-induced C. acnes growth inhibition. The three ingredients were integrated into a topical formulation and evaluated in ex vivo human skin organ cultures. The formulation was found to be safe and effective, reducing both IL-6 and IL-8 hypersecretion without hampering epidermal viability. Finally, a preliminary clinical study of this formulation conducted on 30 human subjects showed a statistically significant reduction in acne lesions (mainly inflammatory lesions) and porphyrin levels, thereby establishing a tight correlation between in vitro, ex vivo, and clinical results. Further studies must be conducted to verify the results, including placebo-controlled clinical assessment, to exclude any action of the formulation itself.

Abstract
The rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) are the important oil bearing material worldwide, which contain wide variety of bioactive components with polyphenolic compounds considered the most typical. The rapeseed polyphenols encompass different structural variants, and have been considered to have many bioactive functions, which are beneficial for the human health. Whereas, the rapeseed oil processing technologies affect their content and the biofunctional activities. The present review of the literature highlighted the major types of the rapeseed polyphenols, and summarized their biofunctional roles. The influences of rapeseed oil processing technologies on these polyphenols were also elucidated. Furthermore, the directions of the future studies for producing nutritional rapeseed oils preserved higher level of polyphenols were prospected. The rapeseed polyphenols are divided into the phenolic acids and polyphenolic tannins, both of which contained different subtypes. They are reported to have multiple biofunctional roles, thus showing outstanding health improvement effects. The rapeseed oil processing technologies have significant effects on both of the polyphenol content and activity. Some novel processing technologies, such as aqueous enzymatic extraction (AEE), subcritical or supercritical extraction showed advantages for producing rapeseed oil with higher level of polyphenols. The oil refining process involved heat or strong acid and alkali conditions affected their stability and activity, leading to the loss of polyphenols of the final products. Future efforts are encouraged to provide more clinic evidence for the practical applications of the rapeseed polyphenols, as well as optimizing the processing technologies for the green manufacturing of rapeseed oils.

Abstract
The endocannabinoid system has been shown to be involved in various skin functions, such as melanogenesis and the maintenance of redox balance in skin cells exposed to UV radiation, as well as barrier functions, sebaceous gland activity, wound healing and the skin's immune response. In addition to the potential use of cannabinoids in the treatment and prevention of skin cancer, cannabinoid compounds and derivatives are of interest as potential systemic and topical applications for the treatment of various inflammatory, fibrotic and pruritic skin conditions. In this context, cannabinoid compounds have been successfully tested as a therapeutic option for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, atopic and seborrhoeic dermatitis, dermatomyositis, asteatotic and atopic eczema, uraemic pruritis, scalp psoriasis, systemic sclerosis and venous leg ulcers. This review provides an insight into the current literature on cannabinoid compounds as potential medicines for the treatment of skin diseases.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Thirty-percent supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA), a modified salicylic acid preparation, is a safe and effective treatment for moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris (AV). However, its mechanism of action remains unclear. We aimed to analyze the role of 30% SSA peels on skin microbiota and inflammation in patients with moderate-to-severe AV. METHODS A total of 28 patients were enrolled and received 30% SSA peels biweekly for 2 months. The Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) score, skin water content, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), pH, and sebum levels were assessed. Skin microbial samples and perilesional skin biopsies were obtained at the onset and 2 weeks after treatment completion. Samples were characterized using a high-throughput sequencing approach targeting a portion of the bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA gene. RESULTS After treatment, patients showed a significant improvement in their GAGS score and skin barrier indicators (P < 0.05). The GAGS score was positively associated with both the sebum concentration (R = 0.3, P = 0.027) and pH (R = 0.39, P = 0.003). Increased expression of caveolin-1 and decreased expression of interleukin (IL)-1a, IL-6, IL-17, transforming growth factor beta, and toll-like receptor 2 were observed in the skin tissue after treatment. The richness and evenness of the cutaneous microbiome decreased after treatment and the Staphylococcus proportion decreased significantly (P < 0.05), whereas the Propionibacterium proportion tended to decrease (P = 0.066). CONCLUSIONS On the basis of analyses of the skin barrier and microbiota, we speculate that the 30% SSA peel may have a therapeutic effect in patients with moderate-to-severe AV by improving the skin microenvironment and modulating the skin microbiome, thus reducing local inflammation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patient compliance with care recommendations is closely related to the role of cosmetics in delaying or preventing the side effects of medications used to treat acne. METHODS A total of 33 volunteers with symptoms of acne vulgaris were qualified for the study. The skin parameters were measured before the experiment, after the 4 and at the 8 weeks of use. The measurements were subject to moisturizing the skin and secretion of sebum and skin color. A skin acoustic parameters using high-frequency ultrasound (33 MHz) was also performed. The recorded images were used to determine the epidermal entrance echo thickness and echo density of dermis. RESULTS The results show a change in the value of skin parameters during the 8-week application of a specific skin care procedure. The secretion of sebum did not change significantly, there was a decrease in hydration, and the level of melanin and hemoglobin remained at the same level. The thickness of the epidermis entrance echo in the ultrasound image was thinned. CONCLUSION For many mild/moderate acne patients, cosmetics proven to be effective and well tested in clinical trials can offer a real benefit in reducing both inflammation, sebum production, melanin, and irritation, but should also be moisturizing.

Abstract
Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit. This study aimed to explore the pathogenesis of acne and the therapeutic mechanism of isotretinoin from the metabolic perspective in coal tar-induced acne in rabbits.Methods: Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-qTOF-MS) based metabolomics was used to identify skin metabolites in groups C (blank control), M (model group) and T (isotretinoin group). Multivariate statistical analysis was used to process the metabolomics data.Results: 98 differential metabolites in group C and group M were identified. The highest proportion of differential metabolites were organic acids and derivatives, lipid metabolites, organic heterocyclic compounds, and nucleoside metabolites. The most significant metabolic pathways included protein digestion and absorption, central carbon metabolism in cancer, ABC transporters, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, biosynthesis of amino acids, and sphingolipid signaling pathway. Isotretinoin treatment normalized eight of these metabolites.Conclusions: Our study will help to further elucidate the pathogenesis of acne, the mechanism of isotretinoin at the metabolite level, and identify new therapeutic targets for treating acne.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris (AV) is a common dermatosis. For moderate to severe AV, isotretinoin is the first-line treatment. Chemical peeling with supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) was developed with water solubility and advanced skin penetration properties. In the present study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of oral low-dose isotretinoin combined with 30% SSA chemical peeling. METHODS Thirty-three moderate-to-severe acne patients were enrolled and received oral low-dose (0.2-0.4 mg/kg/d) isotretinoin and were then randomly assigned to receive 30% SSA or not on each side of the face with 2-week intervals for four sessions. Photos, the number of lesions, GAGS score, skin indices (melanin, erythema, pore, and texture), hydration, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were assessed at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 10 weeks. Side effects, efficacy, and satisfactory rates were recorded. RESULTS A total of 29 patients completed the study. Oral isotretinoin combined with SSA decreased response time compared to isotretinoin monotherapy, with significantly improved GAGS score, count of lesions, and efficacy (%) at 4-6 weeks. Skin indices of melanin, erythema, pore, and texture evaluated at week 10 were improved as well. Oral isotretinoin with or without SSA was effective by the lesion clearance; only SSA significantly improved the TEWL. All the side effects were temporary and tolerable, and no adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSION Oral low-dose isotretinoin combined with 30% SSA is safe and effective, which advanced the onset of action and improves lesion clearance.

Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition encountered in specialties outside of dermatology, including obstetrics and gynecology. The pathophysiology of acne is complex and includes disruption of the cutaneous microbiome, abnormal keratinization, inflammation, and hormonal influences. Various topical and systemic treatment modalities target each component of acne pathophysiology. Clinically, acne can be broken down into noninflammatory, inflammatory, or mixed subtypes. The age of the patient at presentation and signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance might prompt workup for underlying disorders. The severity as well as type of acne dictates the type of treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease around pilosebaceous unit. 5-Aminolaevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is an effective therapy for severe acne vulgaris. However, its specific treatment mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, we investigated the potential mechanism of how ALA-PDT induced lipid secretion inhibition in acne vulgaris. METHODS Primary human sebocytes and sebaceous gland of golden hamster were treated with/without ALA-PDT. Cell viability was evaluated by Live/Dead Cell assay. Fluorescence microscope was used to observe lipids secretion in sebocytes after Nile red staining. The expression of SREBP-1 after ALA-PDT was evaluated by qRT-PCR. Regulation of ALA-PDT on AMPK/SREBP-1 was evaluated by western blot. RESULTS The results showed that ALA-PDT suppressed lipid secretion of primary human sebocytes. In addition, ALA-PDT could inhibit the expression of SREBP-1 in vitro. We also found that ALA-PDT activated AMPK pathway, down-regulating the expression of SREBP-1 in sebocytes after ALA-PDT. CONCLUSIONS These findings elucidate that ALA-PDT suppresses lipid secretion through AMPK/SREBP-1 pathway in treatment of acne vulgaris.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris is a prevalent skin disease lacking effective and well-tolerated treatment. An earlier study indicated that resveratrol (RVT) has therapeutic effects in acne patients through unknown mechanisms. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effects of RVT on linoleic acid (LA)-induced lipogenesis and peptidoglycan (PGN)-induced inflammation in cultured SZ95 sebocytes in vitro, and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. METHODS RNA-sequencing was used to analyze the whole transcriptome. Nile red staining was used to detect intracellular neutral lipids, whereas lipidomics was used to investigate changes in the lipid profile in sebocytes. Interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 mRNA and protein levels were assessed through quantitative real-time PCR and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. Western blot was used to evaluate the expression of lipogenesis-related proteins, the inflammatory signaling pathway, and the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway. Further, specific small interfering RNA (siRNA) was used to knockdown sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) expression. RESULTS RVT inhibited the lipogenesis-related pathway and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway in SZ95 sebocytes. It also downregulated LA-induced lipogenesis, the expression of lipid-related proteins, and the contents of unsaturated fatty acids. Besides, RVT promoted SIRT1 expression and deacetylation of the NF-κB p65 subunit, thereby lowering IL-1β and IL-6 secretion under PGN induction. Furthermore, pretreatment with AMPK inhibitor Compound C abolished RVT-mediated sebosuppressive and anti-inflammation effects. Meanwhile,SIRT1 silencing abrogated the anti-inflammatory potential of RVT. CONCLUSION In human SZ95 sebocytes, RVT exhibits sebosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects partially through the AMPK pathway, which may justify the role of RVT treatment in acne vulgaris.

Abstract
Physiological oxygen concentration (physioxia) ranges from 1 to 8% in human tissues while many researchers cultivate mammalian cells under an atmospheric concentration of 21% (hyperoxia). Oxygen is one of the significant gases which functions in human cells including energy production in mitochondria, metabolism in peroxidase, and transcription of various genes in company with HIF (Hypoxia-inducible factors) in the nucleus. Thus, mammalian cell culture should be deliberated on the oxygen concentration to mimic in vivo physiology. Here, we studied if the cultivation of human skin cells under physiological conditions could affect skin significant genes in barrier functions and dermal matrix formation. We further examined that some representative active ingredients in dermatology such as glycolic acid, gluconolactone, and salicylic acid work in different ways depending on the oxygen concentration. Taken together, we present the importance of oxygen concentration in skin cell culture for proper screening of novel ingredients as well as the mechanistic study of skin cell regulation.

Abstract
With a fascinating complexity, governed by multiple physiological processes, the skin is considered a mantle with protective functions which during lifetime are frequently impaired, triggering dermatologic disorders. As one of the most prevalent dermatologic conditions worldwide, characterized by a complex pathogenesis and a high recurrence, acne can affect the patient's quality of life. Smart topical vehicles represent a good option in the treatment of a versatile skin condition. By surpassing the stratum corneum known for diffusional resistance, a superior topical bioavailability can be obtained at the affected place. In this direction, the literature study presents microemulsions as a part of a condensed group of modern formulations. Microemulsions are appreciated for their superior profile in matters of drug delivery, especially for challenging substances with hydrophilic or lipophilic structures. Formulated as transparent and thermodynamically stable systems, using simplified methods of preparation, microemulsions have a simple and clear appearance. Their unique structures can be explained as a function of the formulation parameters which were found to be the mainstay of a targeted therapy.

Abstract
Background Acupuncture, a therapy of traditional Chinese medicine, is confirmed to exert the therapeutic action on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the detailed therapeutic mechanisms of acupuncture in PCOS remain ambiguous. In this study, we further investigated whether electroacupuncture (EA) alleviated PCOS-like symptoms in rats via regulating a metabolic regulator, sterol regulatory element binding protein-1 (SREBP1). Methods The PCOS-like rat model was built by hypodermic injection with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). The rats were subjected to EA intervention (ST29 and SP6 acupuncture points) for 5 weeks. Primary granulosa cells were isolated from control and PCOS-like rats for evaluating insulin resistance, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in vitro. Results The expression of SREBP1 was increased in PCOS-like rats, which was suppressed by EA treatment. In addition, lentivirus-mediated overexpression of SREBP1 restrained EA treatment-induced improvement in pathological changes, serum hormone levels and insulin resistance in rats. In addition, overexpression of SREBP1 repressed insulin-stimulated phosphorylation of insulin receptor β (IR) and AKT in primary granulosa cells. Moreover, upregulation of SREBP1 further exacerbated mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in granulosa cells isolated from PCOS-like rats. Mechanically, EA treatment suppressed SREBP1 expression through inducing the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway in PCOS-like rats. Conclusion EA intervention alleviated PCOS-like symptoms in rats via improving IR, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress through regulating SREBP1, a lipid metabolism regulator. Our findings illuminate the novel protective mechanisms of EA in the treatment of PCOS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The most common therapeutic approach to acne is a combined treatment of retinoid and benzoyl peroxide, with oral antibiotics recommended for moderate-to-severe cases. These kinds of therapies often lead to adverse reactions, leading to the request for new therapeutic options. Recently, the combined use of three salicylic acid-based products for the topical treatment of acne has been related to a significant improvement in acne lesions. METHODS A multicenter prospective observational study was carried out on patients with a diagnosis of mild comedonal-papular facial acne to provide new evidence on the clinical effectiveness, tolerability and acceptability of three salicylic acid-based products for the topical treatment of acne in the daily clinical practice. Clinical effectiveness on lesions improvement, the evaluation of personal discomfort related to acne and the assessment of overall clinical outcome were the primary endpoints. Treatment acceptability and tolerability were also evaluated. RESULTS The treatment with the three salicylic acid-based products has been related to a significant improvement on acne lesions over 8 weeks of treatment, along with a reduction of personal discomfort related to acne and an improvement on lesions appearance. The products have also shown good acceptability and tolerability. CONCLUSIONS The results of this observational study support the effective and well-tolerated use of a combined treatment with three salicylic acid-based products for the topical treatment of acne.

Abstract
Papulopustular rosacea (PPR) is characterized by central facial erythema and transient papules and/or pustules, with or without telangiectases. The treatment of PPR is challenging due to the unclear and complex pathogenesis. In the present retrospective study, patients with PPR treated with oral minocycline and supramolecular salicylic acid (SSA) 30% chemical peels enrolled between June 2018 and June 2019 were evaluated. All patients were treated with 50 mg minocycline twice a day and SSA 30% twice a month. A total of 19 patients were enrolled and all received the therapy for 12 weeks. A significant reduction of rosacea severity was observed by Investigator Severity Assessment (ISA) after treatment; the mean score reduced from 3.32±0.6 at baseline to 0.89±0.7 (P<0.01) at 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, all patients achieved at least a ‘moderate response’ and 17 patients (89.47%) obtained ‘excellent improvement’ in the Investigator Global Assessment of efficacy. No obvious adverse reactions were observed during each patient's visit. In conclusion, the combination treatment of minocycline and SSA 30% was an effective therapy for PPR. The limitation of the present study was that it was a retrospective analysis; more high-quality, prospective, blinded, controlled clinical trials are required to evaluate the efficacy based on the current study.
