Abstract
The relationship between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancers is complex. This multicenter, population-based cohort study conducted in seven areas in China aimed to assess the correlation between current H. pylori infection and the severity of UGI lesions, as well as its association with the risk of gastric cancer (GC) and esophageal cancer (EC). From 2015 to 2017, 27,085 participants (aged 40-69) completed a standardized questionnaire, and underwent a 13C-urea breath test. Then a subset underwent UGI endoscopy to assess the UGI lesion detection rates. All individuals were followed up until December 2021 to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) for UGI cancers. H. pylori infection prevalence was 45.9%, and among endoscopy participants, 22.2% had gastric lesions, 19.2% had esophageal lesions. Higher detection rates of gastric lesions were noted in the H. pylori-positive population across all lesion severity levels. Over a median follow-up of 6.3 years, 104 EC and 179 GC cases were observed, including 103 non-cardia gastric cancer (NCGC) cases and 76 cardia gastric cancer (CGC) cases. H. pylori-infected individuals exhibited a 1.78-fold increased risk of GC (HR 1.78, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.32-2.40) but no significant increase in EC risk (HR 1.07, 95% CI 0.73-1.57). Notably, there was a higher risk for both NCGC and CGC in H. pylori-infected individuals. This population-based cohort study provides valuable evidence supporting the association between current H. pylori infection and the risk of both NCGC and CGC. These findings contribute to the empirical basis for risk stratification and recommendations for UGI cancer screening.

Abstract
Background Antimicrobial resistance for Helicobacter pylori infection is a highly emerging problem throughout the world to treat gastric-associated diseases. People living in developing countries are more likely to acquire a Helicobacter pylori infection and less likely to gate treatment after infection due to poverty. Therefore, the current study was aimed at determining the magnitude and antibiotic-resistance profile of Helicobacter pylori isolated from patients who underwent endoscopic examination. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to May 2019 at endoscopy service-providing health facilities that are found in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia (Gamby teaching general hospital, Kidane Mihret specialty higher clinic, and Eyasta specialty higher clinic). Data were collected using a pretested, structured questionnaire. Antibiotic susceptibility of Helicobacter pylori isolates from gastric biopsies was determined. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23. Results The 17.8% proportion of Helicobacter pylori was isolated from 135 endoscopy-examined patients (24/135). The majority of isolates (71% of 17/24) were from males, while only 29% of 7/24) were from females. Antimicrobial-resistance of Helicobacter pylori was high to all commonly prescribed antibiotics: amoxicillin and metronidazole (91.7%), clarithromycin and ciprofloxacin (66.7% each), and tetracycline (37.5%). Conclusion Helicobacter pylori isolates from the current study participants were rather low in number. But the highest antibiotic-resistance profile of Helicobacter pylori was observed. Therefore, these findings alarmingly indicate that routine antimicrobial susceptibility testing against Helicobacter pylori isolates is crucial for better patient management.

Abstract
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the most common extranodal site of occurrence of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Most GI lymphomas are of B-cell lineage, while T-cell lymphomas are less frequent. The aim of our retrospective study was to depict the clinical-pathological profile of a series of patients affected by intestinal T-cell lymphomas (ITCL) and possibly define hallmarks of these neoplasms. A total of 28 patients were included: 17 enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphomas (EATL), 5 monomorphic epitheliotropic T-cell lymphomas (MEITL), 3 indolent T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (ITCLDGT), and 3 intestinal T-cell lymphomas not otherwise specified (ITCL-NOS). Celiac disease (CD) was diagnosed in around 70% of cases. Diagnosis of EATL showed a significant correlation with CD30 expression, whereas MEITL with angiotropism and CD56 positivity. ITCLDGT cases showed plasma cells infiltration. Peripheral lymphocytosis, the absence of a previous diagnosis of CD, an advanced Lugano clinical stage, and the histological subtype ITCL-NOS were significantly associated with worse survival at multivariate analysis. Our findings about the epidemiological, clinical, and histopathological features of ITCL were in line with the current knowledge. Reliable prognostic tools for these neoplasms are still lacking but according to our results lymphocytosis, diagnosis of CD, Lugano clinical stage, and histological subtype should be considered for patient stratification.

Abstract
Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are lipid-membrane-bounded nanoparticles that are released from Gram-negative bacteria via vesiculation of the outer membrane. They have vital roles in different biological processes and recently, they have received increasing attention as possible candidates for a broad variety of biomedical applications. In particular, OMVs have several characteristics that enable them to be promising candidates for immune modulation against pathogens, such as their ability to induce the host immune responses given their resemblance to the parental bacterial cell. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a common Gram-negative bacterium that infects half of the world's population and causes several gastrointestinal diseases such as peptic ulcer, gastritis, gastric lymphoma, and gastric carcinoma. The current H. pylori treatment/prevention regimens are poorly effective and have limited success. This review explores the current status and future prospects of OMVs in biomedicine with a special focus on their use as a potential candidate in immune modulation against H. pylori and its associated diseases. The emerging strategies that can be used to design OMVs as viable immunogenic candidates are discussed.

Abstract
Background There is evidence supporting the association between Helicobacter pylori infection and colorectal cancer (CRC), but whether H. pylori eradication reduces the risk of CRC is still unknown. Objectives To compare the incidence of CRC in subjects who had received H. pylori eradication therapy with general population. Design A population-based retrospective cohort study. Methods This study included all H. pylori-infected subjects who had received their first course of clarithromycin-containing triple therapy in 2003-2015 in Hong Kong. We compared the observed incidences of CRC in this H. pylori eradicated cohort with the expected incidences in the age- and sex-matched general population. The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was computed. Results Among 96,572 H. pylori-eradicated subjects with a median follow-up of 9.7 years, 1417 (1.5%) developed CRC. Primary analysis showed no significant difference in the observed and expected incidences of CRC (SIR: 1.03, 95% CI: 0.97-1.09). However, when stratified according to the follow-up period, higher incidence of CRC was only observed in the first 5 years after eradication (SIR: 1.47, 95% CI: 1.39-1.55), but it was lower (SIR: 0.85, 95% CI: 0.74-0.99) than general population after 11 years. When stratified by tumor location, the observed incidence was higher for colon (SIR: 1.20, 95% CI: 1.12-1.29) but lower for rectal cancer (SIR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.81-0.999) among H. pylori-eradicated subjects. Conclusions H. pylori-infected subjects appeared to have a higher incidence of CRC initially, which declined progressively to a level lower than general population 10 years after H. pylori eradication, particularly for rectal cancer.

Abstract
Gastric carcinoma is generally considered to be a rare disease in dogs, carrying a grave prognosis. However, in the Tervueren and Groenendael varieties of the Belgian Shepherd dog breed, the disease is highly prevalent. While histopathology is the gold standard for diagnosing gastric carcinoma, there is no general consensus on the methods for histological classification in these cases. Biopsies of a group of 61 dogs with confirmed gastric carcinoma (45 Tervueren and 16 Groenendael) were examined and classified according to World Health Organization (WHO) and Laurén classifications. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to compare survival between the different subtypes and simple and multiple linear regression were used to analyse the association between age of onset and breed variant, sex, neuter status, location of the tumour, inflammation score, and Laurén and WHO classifications. Mean age at diagnosis was significantly different in Groenendael (10.1 ± 2.01) and Tervueren dogs (8.5 ± 1.90). The Laurén classification resulted in 29 (48%) diffuse- and 32 (52%) intestinal-type tumours. Applying the WHO classification resulted in 30 (49%) tubular carcinoma growth patterns and 31 (51%) others. Median survival time was significantly reduced for the diffuse type as compared to the intestinal type according to the Laurén classification, with the same median survival time results for tubular compared to non-tubular subtypes according to the WHO classification (median survival time of 61 vs. 182 days, respectively). Using the WHO and Lauren classification on tumour biopsies may help the practising clinician in the prognostication of gastric carcinoma in Tervueren and Groenendael dogs.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori is among the prevalent causes of infections worldwide, and its resistance rate to antibiotics has been rising over time. Amoxicillin is the cornerstone for the treatment regimen. However, the prevalence of penicillin allergy ranges from 4% to 15%. In patients with true allergy, Vonoprazan-Clarithromycin-Metronidazole and bismuth quadruple therapy have demonstrated excellent eradication and high adherence rates. Vonoprazan-based therapy is administered less frequently and may be better tolerated than bismuth quadruple therapy. Therefore, vonoprazan-based therapy may be considered as a first-line therapy if accessible. Bismuth quadruple therapy can be used as the initial therapy when vonoprazan is unavailable. Levofloxacin or sitafloxacin-based regimens achieve a moderately high eradication rate. However, these are associated with potentially serious adverse effects and should only be used when other effective and safer regimens are unavailable. Cephalosporins such as cefuroxime have been used as an alternative to amoxicillin. Microbial susceptibility studies can guide the selection of appropriate antibiotics. PPI-Clarithromycin-Metronidazole fails to achieve a high eradication rate and should be used as a second-line therapy. PPI-Clarithromycin-Rifabutin should not be used because of low eradication rate and frequent adverse reactions. The choice of the most effective antibiotic regimen can enhance clinical outcomes in patients with H. pylori infection and penicillin allergy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Currently, bismuth quadruple therapy (BQT) is indicated as a first-line treatment for Helicobacter pylori eradication in areas with high dual metronidazole and clarithromycin resistance, with its use being limited by its low tolerability and significant cost. A novel regimen with high-dose amoxicillin dual therapy (HDADT) has emerged as an alternative. The aim of this study was to compare the results of these two treatments on HP eradication. MATERIALS AND METHODS Prospective randomized study including 100 consecutive patients undergoing H. pylori eradication. Each patient was randomized (in a 1:1 ratio) to one group of treatment: BQT (bismuth 140 mg + metronidazole 125 mg + tetracycline 125 mg, four times a day, for 10 days) or HDADT (amoxicillin 1000 mg alternating with amoxicillin 500 mg, four times a day, for 14 days), both associated with esomeprazole 40 mg twice a day. The primary aim was to compare treatments' efficacies. Secondary aims were to assess symptoms persistence and tolerability. RESULTS A total of 100 patients were included, 54% women, with a mean age of 55 ± 14 years. From these, five were lost to follow-up. Effective eradication proven by negative stool antigen test was significantly higher in patients randomized to HDADT when compared to BQT for both intention-to-treat (ITT) (96.2% vs. 81.4%; p = .022) and per-protocol (PP) (95.9% vs. 81%; p = .025) analysis. These differences were even more pronounced when only considering second line treatment (100% vs. 62.5%; p = .028). Side effects did not differ significantly between BQT and HDADT groups for both ITT (7.0% vs. 2.0%; p = .254) and PP (4.8% vs. 0%; p = .210) analysis. CONCLUSIONS When compared to BQT, treatment with HDADT presented higher and near 100% efficacy in eradicating H. pylori, without differences in reported side effects or compliance. This treatment represents an important alternative for populations with increasing incidences of resistance to the currently recommended antibiotic regimens.

Abstract
Microbiota-induced tumorigenesis is well established in solid tumors of the gastrointestinal tract but rarely explored in hematologic malignancies. To determine the role of gut microbiota in lymphoma progression, we performed metagenomic sequencing on human primary gastrointestinal B cell lymphomas. We identified a distinct microbiota profile of intestinal lymphoma, with significantly decreased symbiotic microbes, particularly the genus Eubacterium and notably butyrate-producing Eubacterium rectale. Transfer of E. rectale-deficit microbiota of intestinal lymphoma patients to mice caused inflammation and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) production. Conversely, E. rectale treatment reduced TNF levels and the incidence of lymphoma in sensitized Eμ-Myc mice. Moreover, lipopolysaccharide from the resident microbiota of lymphoma patients and mice synergizes with TNF signaling and reinforces the NF-κB pathway via the MyD88-dependent TLR4 signaling, amalgamating in enhanced intestinal B cell survival and proliferation. These findings reveal a mechanism of inflammation-associated lymphomagenesis and a potential clinical rationale for therapeutic targeting of gut microbiota.

Abstract
The human gastrointestinal tract is inhabited by the largest microbial community within the human body consisting of trillions of microbes called gut microbiota. The normal flora is the site of many physiological functions such as enhancing the host immunity, participating in the nutrient absorption and protecting the body against pathogenic microorganisms. Numerous investigations showed a bidirectional interplay between gut microbiota and many organs within the human body such as the intestines, the lungs, the brain, and the skin. Large body of evidence demonstrated, more than a decade ago, that the gut microbial alteration is a key factor in the pathogenesis of many local and systemic disorders. In this regard, a deep understanding of the mechanisms involved in the gut microbial symbiosis/dysbiosis is crucial for the clinical and health field. We review the most recent studies on the involvement of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of many diseases. We also elaborate the different strategies used to manipulate the gut microbiota in the prevention and treatment of disorders. The future of medicine is strongly related to the quality of our microbiota. Targeting microbiota dysbiosis will be a huge challenge.

Abstract
AIM Periodontitis has been proposed to lead to Helicobacter pylori infection, which could cause many gastrointestinal tract cancers. This study aimed to determine the association or otherwise between periodontitis and survival outcomes in individuals with respect to H. pylori infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study population comprised 4955 subjects aged 20-90 who had received both periodontal examination and H. pylori serum test in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) database. Logistic regression models were used to analyse the association between periodontitis and H. pylori seropositivity (H. pylori infection). Survival analysis was performed using the NHANES III linked to mortality data. Cox proportional hazard regression was carried out to investigate the association between periodontitis and gastrointestinal tract cancer mortality in individuals with/without H. pylori infection. RESULTS Compared to periodontal health, periodontitis was significantly associated with increased odds of H. pylori infection (OR = 1.271, 95% CI = 1.177-1.372). Periodontitis significantly increased the mortality risk from all causes (HR = 1.574, 95% CI = 1.327-1.866) and all cancers (HR = 1.948, 95% CI = 1.701-2.232), including gastrointestinal (GI) tract cancer (HR = 4.140, 95% CI = 3.656-4.687), gastric cancer (HR = 4.288, 95% CI = 3.969-4.632), and colorectal cancer (HR = 4.814, 95% CI = 3.849-6.020) in subjects with H. pylori infection after adjusting for health-related factors. Periodontitis was significantly related to the decreased survival time in subjects with GI tract (p = .001) or colorectal cancer (p = .002) and H. pylori infection. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated that periodontitis was significantly associated with higher mortality risk of GI tract, gastric, and colorectal cancer in subjects with H. pylori infection. Owing to an interactive effect between periodontitis and H. pylori infection on cancer mortality, H. pylori infection has a significant moderating effect in regulating the association between periodontitis and mortality due to all cancers, including GI tract cancer and colorectal cancer.

Abstract
Background Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the most important risk factor for gastritis and peptic ulcer. However, factors other than H. pylori are involved in its pathogenesis. In the current study, we aimed to compare the clinical manifestations and endoscopic and histopathological findings of patients with and without H. pylori infection.
Methods In this cross-sectional study, 233 patients with dyspepsia, referred for endoscopy, were examined regarding the presence of H. pylori infection. During an endoscopic exam, 5 biopsy specimens were taken from the stomach. The criteria for the presence of H. pylori infection was the presence and identification of bacteria in pathology. Two groups of H. pylori-positive and H. pylori-negative patients were compared regarding their demographic, endoscopic, and pathological findings. Results Of 233 patients, 154 (66.1%) were non-smokers, 201 (86.3%) were not alcohol users, and 153 (65.7%) used tap water. The most common symptom, reported in 157 (67.4%) patients, was epigastric pain. There was a significant difference between patients with and without H. pylori infection in terms of the educational status, occupational status, family history of gastrointestinal cancer, and some gastrointestinal symptoms. Also, there was a significant relationship between the endoscopic and pathological findings of patients with H. pylori. Conclusions The results of the present study revealed that H. pylori infection was not associated with sex, alcohol consumption, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use. The role of H. pylori in the pathophysiology of peptic ulcer was clarified. Also, there was a significant difference in the endoscopic and pathological findings of patients with H. pylori.

Abstract
Statins have been used as adjuvants to standard treatment in order to increase the eradication rates of Helicobacter pylori infection. This study aimed to summarize the results of the efficacy of adding statins to standard treatments used for the eradication of H. pylori infection. We conducted a systematic search using a comprehensive combination of keywords in PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus to retrieve relevant studies from 1990 to 2020. The estimate of pooled relative risk (RR), as the effect measure, was calculated using random effects meta-analyses in Stata 14. We finally included 5 studies (all of them were randomized controlled trials). The meta-analysis of all studies showed that the pooled RR (95% confidence interval) was 1.03 (0.64–1.68) in the random effects model, which was not statistically significant. In other words, based on our meta-analysis, the addition of statins as an adjuvant therapy to the standard treatment regimens does not increase the rate of H. pylori eradication. However, further evidence is needed to confirm this result as the number of available studies was small.

Abstract
Background Helicobacter pylori infection has been known to be associated with dyspepsia for more than two decades; however, studies on this topic in India are limited. This study was carried out to estimate the Helicobacter pylori infection rates in non-ulcer dyspepsia. Methods Helicobacter pylori infection rates detected by rapid urease test (RUT) positivity were analyzed in 235 patients presenting to a tertiary care center with dyspepsia having no evidence of peptic ulcer disease on esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Results In this study, the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection diagnosed by the RUT was found to be 40.85%. Gender-based prevalence was found to be 40.14% and 41.93% for men and women, respectively. The highest prevalence was found in the age group of 30-39 years. The most common area of involvement was the isolated antrum of the stomach as seen in 93 patients. Conclusion This study shows a modest RUT positivity rate for Helicobacter pylori infection with the commonest site of involvement being the antrum of the stomach. Further studies will be needed to assess the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in the community to analyze the extent of infection.

Abstract
It remains unclear whether Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a major cause of gastric cancer (GC), is involved in other intestinal cancers. In our previous study, ICOS+ Foxp3+ CD4+ T cells (ICOS+ Tregs) in GC tumors were identified as effector Tregs and associated with H. pylori. In the present study, the impact of ICOS+ Tregs on not only GC, but also colorectal cancer (CRC) and their prognosis was investigated in association with H. pylori. Tissue-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) purified from fresh tumor and sera were obtained from GC and CRC patients prospectively. % ICOS+ Tregs were analyzed by flow cytometry and their production of anti-H. pylori antibody (Hp-Ab) in sera was detected by ELISA. % ICOS+ Tregs were higher in GC and CRC patients with Hp-Ab than in those without Hp-Ab, including eradicated patients. ICOS+ Tregs purified had higher potential to produce IL-10 than ICOS- Tregs. For prognostic analysis, immunohistochemical analysis and ELISA were performed using archival fixed specimens and frozen sera, respectively, obtained from GC and CRC patients. Overall survival was longer in patients with low % ICOS+ Tregs than in those with high % ICOS+ Tregs, and patients with Hp-Ab showed shorter recurrence-free survival than those without Hp-Ab. These results suggested that ICOS+ Tregs in GC and CRC patients were closely associated with H. pylori in gastric epithelium and their prognosis, and that pre-operative H. pylori eradication has potential as a novel immunotherapy for GC and CRC patients.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a common malignant disease worldwide. Among the potential pathogenic factors, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has been associated with the tumorigenesis of PC. The present study aimed to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of H. pylori infection-associated PC and to investigate the key factors involved in PC tumorigenesis. Using bioinformatics methods, overlapping DEGs and key gene were identified from H. pylori-infected gastric mucosa (GM) and H. pylori infection-associated PC. Survival and tumor stage analyses were performed to assess the clinical associations. In addition, mucin 4 (MUC4) mRNA expression levels were measured in patient blood and tumor samples. According to the correlation analyses of four genes co-expressed, potential biological processes were identified. MUC4 was identified to be associated with H. pylori infection, and its levels were significantly upregulated in PC samples compared with those in normal samples in TCGA dataset, the PC cell line and patient tissue samples. H. pylori infection was also associated with MUC4 expression in patients' blood and tissue samples. In conclusion, the results of the present study revealed a potentially pathogenic role of MUC4 in H. pylori infection-associated PC. Thus, the tumorigenesis and metastasis of PC may be prevented by treating the H. pylori infection or using MUC4 antagonists.

Abstract
The intestinal epithelium serves as a barrier to discriminate the outside from the inside and is in constant exchange with the luminal contents, including nutrients and the microbiota. Pathogens have evolved mechanisms to overcome the multiple ways of defense in the mucosa, while several members of the microbiota can exhibit pathogenic features once the healthy barrier integrity of the epithelium is disrupted. This not only leads to symptoms accompanying the acute infection but may also contribute to long-term injuries such as genomic instability, which is linked to mutations and cancer. While for Helicobacter pylori a link between infection and cancer is well established, many other bacteria and their virulence factors have only recently been linked to gastrointestinal malignancies through epidemiological as well as mechanistic studies. This review will focus on those pathogens and members of the microbiota that have been linked to genotoxicity in the context of gastric or colorectal cancer. We will address the mechanisms by which such bacteria establish contact with the gastrointestinal epithelium-either via an existing breach in the barrier or via their own virulence factors as well as the mechanisms by which they interfere with host genomic integrity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The significance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and atrophic gastritis (AG) in the prevalence of colorectal adenomas has been examined in a limited number of studies. However, these studies reported disputed conclusions.
AIM To investigate whether H. pylori infection, AG, and H. pylori-related AG increase the risk of colorectal adenomas.
METHODS This retrospective cross-sectional study included 6018 health-check individuals. The relevant data for physical examination, laboratory testing, 13C-urea breath testing, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and histopathological examination of gastric and colorectal biopsies were recorded. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the association between H. pylori-related AG and colorectal adenomas.
RESULTS Overall, 1012 subjects (16.8%) were diagnosed with colorectal adenomas, of whom 143 (2.4%) had advanced adenomas. Among the enrolled patients, the prevalence of H. pylori infection and AG was observed as 49.5% (2981/6018) and 10.0% (602/6018), respectively. Subjects with H. pylori infection had an elevated risk of colorectal adenomas (adjusted odds ratio [OR] of 1.220, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.053-1.413, P = 0.008) but no increased risk of advance adenomas (adjusted OR = 1.303, 95%CI: 0.922-1.842, P = 0.134). AG was significantly correlated to an increased risk of colorectal adenomas (unadjusted OR = 1.668, 95%CI: 1.352-2.059, P < 0.001; adjusted OR = 1.237, 95%CI: 0.988-1.549, P = 0.064). H. pylori infection accompanied by AG was significantly associated with an increased risk of adenomas (adjusted OR = 1.491, 95%CI: 1.103-2.015, P = 0.009) and advanced adenomas (adjusted OR = 1.910, 95%CI: 1.022-3.572, P = 0.043).
CONCLUSION H. pylori-related AG was associated with a high risk of colorectal adenomas and advanced adenomas in Chinese individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication rate is decreasing in the general population of China.
AIM To evaluate the H. pylori eradication status in real-world clinical practice and to explore factors related to eradication failure.
METHODS Patients with H. pylori infection who were treated with standard 14-d quadruple therapy and received a test of cure at a provincial medical institution between June 2018 and May 2019 were enrolled. Demographic and clinical data were recorded. Eradication rates were calculated and compared between regimens and subgroups. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify predictors of eradication failure.
RESULTS Of 2610 patients enrolled, eradication was successful in 1999 (76.6%) patients. Amoxicillin-containing quadruple regimens showed a higher eradication rate than other quadruple therapy regimens (83.0% vs 69.0%, P < 0.001). The quadruple therapy containing amoxicillin plus clarithromycin achieved the highest eradication rate (83.5%). Primary therapy had a higher eradication rate than rescue therapy (78.3% vs 66.5%, P < 0.001). In rescue therapy, the amoxicillin- and furazolidone-containing regimens achieved the highest eradication rate (80.8%). Esomeprazole-containing regimens showed a higher eradication rate than those containing other proton pump inhibitors (81.8% vs 74.9%, P = 0.001). Multivariate regression analysis found that older age, prior therapy, and use of omeprazole or pantoprazole were associated with an increased risk of eradication failure.
CONCLUSION The total eradication rate is 76.6%. Amoxicillin-containing regimens are superior to other regimens. Age, prior therapy, and use of omeprazole or pantoprazole are independent risk factors for eradication failure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are a subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma stemming from marginal zone B-cells. In this case report, we present two patients with an extremely rare localization of MALT lymphoma to the larynx. METHODS Case 1 is of a 78-year-old male presenting with a six-month history of progressive hoarseness with a past medical history significant for marginal zone lymphoma of the right orbit. Diagnosis was confirmed with a biopsy for extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT type. An FDG-PET scan was done but did not show any sign of FDG avid malignancy, including at the primary site. Case 2 is a 60-year-old female presenting with one year of worsening throat discomfort, intermittent cough, and dyspnea with exertion. Pathology confirmed a diagnosis of extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT type. RESULTS Case 1 was treated with low-dose radiation at 4 Gy delivered over two fractions of 2 Gy each. Upon completion of radiation treatment, he reported a resolution of his hoarseness and normalization of his voice. A four-month follow-up in May 2018 with flexible nasolaryngoscopy revealed a normal exam with fully mobile vocal folds bilaterally and no evidence of left false vocal fold submucosal mass. At seven months following treatment, the patient died unexpectedly of unknown causes. Case 2 was treated with radiation at 30 Gy in 15 fractions over the course of one month. Following completion of radiation therapy, she had improvement of her sore throat, nausea, dysphagia, dysgeusia, and dry mouth. At 21-month follow-up, she had no evidence of disease. CONCLUSION This case report demonstrates that MALT lymphoma can present with much more benign and subtle symptoms. This highlights the importance of clinicians to keep broad differentials and consider MALT lymphomas in the setting of laryngeal masses.

Abstract
Objective Gastric cancer (GC) is a gastrointestinal tumor. This study is aimed to explore the regulatory mechanism of long non-coding RNA BLACAT1 (BLACAT1)/microRNA-149-5p (miR-149-5p)/KIF2A cascade on GC. Methods The expression of BLACAT1, miR-149-5p and KIF2A in GC was detected by qRT-PCR. The proliferation, migration and invasion of GC cells in vitro were analyzed by MTT, wound-healing and transwell assay, respectively. The xenograft tumor model was constructed in nude mice to confirm the inhibition effect of BLACAT1 knockdown on GC in vivo. Then, dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to detect the interactions among BLACAT1, miR-149-5p and KIF2A. Western blot assay was performed to determine the protein expression of KIF2A. Results The expression of BLACAT1 and KIF2A was up-regulated in GC, but miR-149-5p expression was down-regulated. Silencing of BLACAT1 retarded the proliferation, migration and invasion of GC cells in vitro and the growth of tumor xenograft in vivo. Moreover, BLACAT1 acted as the molecular sponge of miR-149-5p to up-regulate KIF2A expression. At last, feedback experiments suggested that BLACAT1 accelerated the proliferation, migration and invasion of GC cells by regulating miR-149-5p/KIF2A axis. Conclusion BLACAT1 facilitated the tumorigenesis of GC through regulating miR-149-5p/KIF2A axis, which indicated BLACAT1/miR-149-5p/KIF2A cascade may be a new therapeutic target.

Abstract
Purpose To explore the role of FKBP prolyl isomerase 10 (FKBP10) protein in the progression of gastric cancer. Methods Four independent gastric cancer databases (GSE27342, GSE29272, GSE54129 and TCGA-STAD) were used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis was used to identify the abnormally active pathways in patients with gastric cancer. Univariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify genes with stable prognostic value in gastric cancer patients based on three independent gastric cancer databases (GSE15459, GSE62254, TCGA-STAD). Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to explore the possible pathways related to FKBP10. The reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was employed to determine the expression of FKBP10 mRNA in the HGC-27 and MKN-7 cell lines. Adhesion assay was used to detect changes in cell adhesion ability. FKBP10, ITGA1, ITGA2, ITGA5, ITGAV, ITGA6, P-AKT473, P-AKT308, AKT, and β-actin were evaluated by Western blot (WB). Results We first performed differential expression genes (DEGs) screening of four independent GC databases (GSE27342, GSE29272, GSE54129 and TCGA-STAD). Eighty-nine genes showed consistent up-regulation in GC, the results of pathway analysis showed that they were related to “Focal adhesion”. The prognostic value of these 89 genes was tested in three independent GC databases GSE15459, GSE62254 and TCGA-STAD cohort. Finally, 12 genes, in which the expression of FKBP10 was prominently increased in patients with lymph node metastasis (LNM), showed stable prognostic value. The following gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) also showed that FKBP10 is mainly involved in cell adhesion process, while adhesion experiments confirmed that cell adhesion was down-regulated after silencing FKBP10 in GC cells, and adhesion-related molecules integrin αV and α6 were down-regulated. Conclusion FKBP10 may be used as a marker for lymph node metastasis of GC and could be used as a potential target for future treatment of GC.

Abstract
Upper gastrointestinal cancer (UGIC) including esophageal cancer and gastric cancer, which has been a significant burden in China. Few studies have explored the spatial pattern and association of incidence and mortality using nationwide data. This study aims to explore the spatial pattern and association of incidence and mortality between esophageal cancer and gastric cancer, and identify high-risk areas of the cancers to provide scientific evidence for tailoring endoscopic screening programs. We collected UGIC data in 2014 from a National Cancer Report, and then adopted methods of correlation analysis and spatial statistics to identify high-risk areas on the cancers and to explore the pattern. The results show a spatial autocorrelation on the spatial distribution of incidence and mortality of esophageal and gastric cancers, and the relative risks were from 2.52 (95% CI (confidence interval), 2.37-2.67; P < 0.001) to 3.80 (95% CI, 3.46-4.18; P < 0.001) in primary risk areas, respectively. Moreover, esophageal cancer shows an upward and then downward trend from west to east, and from south to north, yet gastric cancer exhibits an upward and then downward trend only from south to north. This study indicates habitants in overlapping risk areas have heavier cancer burdens, and suggests esophageal cancer and gastric cancer have a significant correlation. Therefore, more endoscopic screening attention should focus on overlapping risk areas.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the concordance and performance characteristics of Helicobacter pylori laboratory tests compared with histopathology and to propose algorithms for the diagnosis of H pylori that minimize diagnostic error. METHODS H pylori diagnostics were reviewed from a 12-year period within a health system (2,560 cases). Analyses were performed to adjust diagnostic performance based on treatment and consensus histopathologic diagnoses among pathologists. Markers of access to care, including test cancellation frequency and turnaround time, were assessed. Costs and performance of candidate noninvasive testing algorithms were modeled as a function of disease prevalence. RESULTS Serum H pylori IgG demonstrated a higher sensitivity (0.94) than urea breath and stool antigen tests (0.64 and 0.61, respectively). Evidence of an advantage in access to care for serology included a lower cancellation rate. Interobserver variability was higher (κ = 0.34) among pathologists for cases with a discordant laboratory test than concordant cases (κ = 0.56). A model testing algorithm utilizing serology for first-time diagnoses minimizes diagnostic error. CONCLUSIONS Although H pylori serology has modestly lower specificity than other noninvasive tests, the superior sensitivity and negative predictive value in our population support its use as a noninvasive test to rule out H pylori infection. Reflexive testing with positive serology followed by either stool antigen or urea breath test may optimize diagnostic accuracy in low-prevalence populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the major cause of gastric cancer, it has also been suggested to be involved in colorectal cancer development. However, prospective studies addressing H. pylori and colorectal cancer are sparse and inconclusive. We assessed the association of antibody responses to H. pylori proteins with colorectal cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort. METHODS We applied H. pylori multiplex serology to measure antibody responses to 13 H. pylori proteins in prediagnostic serum samples from 485 colorectal cancer cases and 485 matched controls nested within the EPIC study. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using multivariable conditional logistic regression to estimate the association of H. pylori overall and protein-specific seropositivity with odds of developing colorectal cancer. RESULTS Fifty-one percent of colorectal cancer cases were H. pylori seropositive compared with 44% of controls, resulting in an OR of 1.36 (95% CI, 1.00-1.85). Among the 13 individual H. pylori proteins, the association was driven mostly by seropositivity to Helicobacter cysteine-rich protein C (HcpC; OR: 1.66; 95% CI, 1.19-2.30) and Vacuolating cytotoxin A (VacA) (OR: 1.34; 95% CI, 0.99-1.82), the latter being nonstatistically significant only in the fully adjusted model. CONCLUSIONS In this prospective multicenter European study, antibody responses to H. pylori proteins, specifically HcpC and VacA, were associated with an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer. IMPACT Biological mechanisms for a potential causal role of H. pylori in colorectal carcinogenesis need to be elucidated, and subsequently whether H. pylori eradication may decrease colorectal cancer incidence.

Abstract
Cancer is one of the most aggressive and deadly diseases in the world, representing the second leading cause of death. It is a multifactorial disease, in which genetic alterations play a key role, but several environmental factors also contribute to its development and progression. Infections induced by certain viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites constitute risk factors for cancer, being chronic infection associated to the development of certain types of cancer. On the other hand, susceptibility to infectious diseases is higher in cancer patients. The state of the host immune system plays a crucial role in the susceptibility to both infection and cancer. Importantly, immunosuppressive cancer treatments increase the risk of infection, by decreasing the host defenses. Furthermore, alterations in the host microbiota is also a key factor in the susceptibility to develop cancer. More recently, the identification of a tumor microbiota, in which bacteria establish a symbiotic relationship with cancer cells, opened a new area of research. There is evidence demonstrating that the interaction between bacteria and cancer cells can modulate the anticancer drug response and toxicity. The present review focuses on the interaction between microbes and cancer, specifically aiming to: (1) review the main infectious agents associated with development of cancer and the role of microbiota in cancer susceptibility; (2) highlight the higher vulnerability of cancer patients to acquire infectious diseases; (3) document the relationship between cancer cells and tissue microbiota; (4) describe the role of intratumoral bacteria in the response and toxicity to cancer therapy.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the main causes of gastric gancer. TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a protein able to promote apoptosis in cancer cells, however not in gastric cancer, which presents resistance to apoptosis via TRAIL. It is believed that MicroRNA-106b-5p might be involved in this resistance, although its role in Gastric Cancer is unclear. We aimed to determine the expression of microRNA-106b-5p and TRAIL in patients with gastric diseases, infected by H. pylori, and understand the relationship between these genes and their role in apoptosis and the gastric cancer pathways. H. pylori was detected by PCR, gene expression analysis was performed by real-time-qPCR, and bioinformatics analysis was performed using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Cytoscape software. A total of 244 patients were divided into groups (Control, Gastritis, and Cancer); H. pylori was detected in 42.2% of the samples. The cancer group had a poor expression of TRAIL (p < 0.0001) and overexpression of microRNA-106b-5p (p = 0.0005), however, our results confirmed that these genes are not directly related to each other although both are apoptosis-related regulators. Our results also indicated that H. pylori decreases microRNA-106b-5p expression and that this is a carcinogenic bacterium responsible for gastric diseases.

Abstract
PURPOSE To feasibly analyze associations of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) with disease in large cohort studies, assays are needed to assess H. pylori prevalence in existing biospecimens. However, serology has traditionally been unable to distinguish active from past infection. We sought to determine the sensitivity of seropositivity to H. pylori proteins to detect active infection. METHODS We measured antibody responses to 13 H. pylori proteins using multiplex serology in serum samples of a training (n = 78) and validation set (n = 49) collected concurrently from patients undergoing urea breath test (UBT). To determine sensitivity of seropositivity to H. pylori proteins for active infection, a cutoff was applied to achieve 90% specificity. Antibody levels were retested in a subset of participants (n = 16) 6 months after baseline. RESULTS With a specificity of 91%, seropositivity to H. pylori proteins VacA, GroEl, HcpC, and HP1564 ascertained active infection from 100% to 75% sensitivity. Positivity to a combination of these proteins (≥2 out of the 4) resulted in specificity of 90% and sensitivity of 100%. The validation set replicated results from the training set. Among those participants with successful H. pylori eradication after baseline, antibody levels decreased significantly for VacA, HcpC, and HP1564 when assessed 6 months later. CONCLUSION Utilizing the cutoffs for seropositivity established through comparison with UBT, seropositivity to ≥2 of the H. pylori proteins VacA, GroEl, HcpC, and HP1564 determines active H. pylori infection at high specificity and sensitivity and may approximate the prevalence of active H. pylori infection in large cohorts.

Abstract
Cisplatin (DDP) resistance is closely associated with the failure of chemotherapy to manage various different types of human cancer. The GTPase protein Ras-related protein Rap-2a (RAP2A) regulates cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion; however, little is currently known regarding its role in cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy. The present study investigated the potential roles of the RAP2A gene in gastric cancer cell resistance to DDP treatment. The DDP half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values for the proliferation inhibition of MGC803 and MGC803/DDP gastric cancer cells were determined by treating the cells with a DDP concentration gradient and measuring their survival rates using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay; cell viability was also assessed using the CCK-8 assay. Cell migration and invasion were assessed using Transwell Matrigel assays, and apoptosis and DNA damage were evaluated using flow cytometry and Hoechst staining. RAP2A expression was knocked down by siRNA transfection, and RAP2A protein levels were examined using western blotting. The DDP IC50 values for DDP-resistant MGC803/DDP cells were greater than those for MGC803 cells. Furthermore, MGC803/DDP cells exhibited increased levels of viability, migration and invasion, and decreased levels of apoptosis and DNA damage during DDP treatment. Knockdown of RAP2A expression significantly promoted MGC803/DDP cell apoptosis and DNA damage, and decreased the viability and invasion capabilities of these cells following treatment with DDP. The results of the present study revealed that RAP2A expression promotes DDP resistance in gastric cancer cells by increasing their viability, migration and invasion capacities, and by suppressing apoptosis and DNA damage.

Abstract
Early diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC) is an effective method to improve prognosis. Increasing number of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported as biomarkers for several cancers. We aim to detect the level of lncRNA B3GALT5-AS1 and its association with clinical parameters and to further explore its application value in GC. We measured serum B3GALT5-AS1 expression in 107 patients with GC, 40 polyp patients, and 87 normal controls to explore the significance of serum B3GALT5-AS1 in GC using the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction method. The result demonstrated that B3GALT5-AS1 level was markedly richer in GC patients than that in normal people (P < .001). B3GALT5-AS1 may be served as a diagnostic marker for distinguishing GC patients from healthy people, and the proportion under the receiver operating characteristics curve is 0.816 (95% confidence interval, 0.758-0.874; P = .03). Further exploration validated that high serum B3GALT5-AS1 level was related to TNM stage (P = .024), and lymph node metastasis (P = .023). Our study suggested that serum B3GALT5-AS1 may be employed as an ideal biomarker for early screening of GC.

Abstract
Background Helicobacter pylori infection is recognized as a major risk factor for gastric cancer (GC) progression; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms have remained to be fully elucidated. Methods qPCR and Western blot were used to detect mRNA level and relative protein expression. Wound healing assay and transwell were used to determine migration and invasion of cells. Calcium imaging was used to determine calcium signaling in cells. Luciferase reporter assay and immunohistochemistry were performed. Results In the present study, it was demonstrated that H. pylori infection in GC is closely associated with the depth of tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis, tumor-nodes-metastasis stage, and distant metastasis. Migration and invasion assays indicated that H. pylori infection enhanced the migration and invasion of GC cells in a Ca2+-dependent manner. Calcium imaging was applied to detect intracellular Ca2+ and revealed that H. pylori induced an increase of intracellular Ca2+ in GC cells through release from Ca2+ stores and extracellular Ca2+ influx. Further study indicated that H. pylori infection led to an upregulation of the expression of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 6 (TRPC6) and induced an increase of Ca2+ through the TRPC6 channel. Furthermore, H. pylori increased TRPC6 transcription through the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, and Wnt/β-catenin/TRPC6 signaling was identified to be at least in part responsible for H. pylori-induced GC migration and invasion. Finally, it was observed that TRPC6 expression was significantly associated with the H. pylori infection status in GC tissues, and H. pylori infection was associated with metastasis and poor prognosis for GC patients. Conclusion The present results indicate that H. pylori causes an upregulation of TRPC6 expression through the Wnt/β-catenin pathway to promote GC progression, and this interaction may serve as a promising target for GC therapy.

Abstract
Mucosal plasma cells (PC) and Ig production are essential to fend pathogens and to maintain mucosal homeostasis. In human Helicobacter pylori infection, mucosal PC express inducible NO synthase (iNOS), which positively correlates with clearance of experimental human infection. To characterize Ig genes and specificities of antral mucosal iNOS+ and iNOS- PC in H. pylori infection, we sequenced rearranged Ig genes from single cell-sorted PC from biopsy specimens of chronically infected patients and analyzed them with respect to their molecular features. The binding specificity of individual PC's Ig was determined following recombinant expression. We identified high rates of somatic hypermutations, especially targeting RGYW/WRCY hotspot motifs in the individual Ig genes, indicating T cell-dependent maturation. For seven of 14 recombinantly expressed Ig, Ag specificity could be determined. Two clones reacted to H. pylori proteins, and five were found to be polyreactive against LPSs, dsDNA, and ssDNA. All specific Ig originated from iNOS+ PC. H. pylori-specific Ig are encoded by V and J family genes previously shown to be also used in rearranged Ig loci of MALT B cell lymphomas. In summary, mucosal iNOS+ PC producing H. pylori-specific Ig accumulate in infection and appear to be a product of T cell-dependent B cell maturation. Moreover, the Ig's molecular features partly resembled that of MALT B cell lymphoma Ig genes, suggestive of a mechanism in which a progressive molecular evolution of pathogen-specific B cells to MALT B cell lymphoma occurs.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori and humans have one of the most complex relationships in nature. How a bacterium manages to live in one of the harshest and hostile environments is a topic of unraveling mysteries. H. pylori is a prevalent species and it colonizes the human gut of more than 50% of the world population. It infects the epithelial region of antrum and persists there for a long period. Over the time of evolution, H. pylori has developed complex strategies to extend the degree of inflammation in gastric mucosa. H. pylori needs specific adaptations for initial colonization into the host environment like helical shape, flagellar movement, chemotaxis, and the production of urease enzyme that neutralizes acidic environment of the stomach. There are several factors from the bacterium as well as from the host that participate in these complex interactions. On the other hand, to establish the persistent infection, H. pylori escapes the immune system by mimicking the host antigens. This pathogen has the ability to dodge the immune system and then persist there in the form of host cell, which leads to immune tolerance. H. pylori has an ability to manipulate its own pathogen-associated molecular patterns, which leads to an inhibition in the binding with specific pattern recognition receptors of the host to avoid immune cell detection. Also, it manipulates the host metabolic homeostasis in the gastric epithelium. Besides, it has several genes, which may get involved in the acquisition of nutrition from the host to survive longer in the host. Due to the persistence of H. pylori, it causes chronic inflammation and raises the chances of gastric cancer. This review highlights the important elements, which are certainly responsible for the persistence of H. pylori in the human host.

Abstract
Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate the relationship of serum pepsinogens PGI, PGII, gastrin-17, and Hp-IgG with colorectal cancer (CRC), aiming to explore the clinical significance of serum markers reflecting gastric function and H. pylori infection in CRC. Methods: A total of 569 CRC cases and 569 age and sex-matched controls were enrolled in this study between June 2012 and April 2016 from The First Hospital of China Medical University. The serum markers reflecting gastric function and H. pylori infection were detected using ELISA, including PGI, PGII, PGI/II ratio, G-17 and Hp-IgG. Information of clinicopathological parameters and tumor biomarkers was collected from the medical records of inpatients, including CEA, CA199, CA125, CA153 and AFP. Results: Serum PGII, G-17 levels and Hp-IgG were increased in CRC, while PGI and PGI/II ratio appeared no significant difference between CRC and controls. In subgroup analysis, PGII was more significant in males (P=0.014). Hp-IgG was demonstrated higher in age<60y (P=0.001). With respect to the association with serum tumor biomarkers, G-17 level was associated with the rise of CA125 (P=0.005, OR (95%CI): 4.89 (1.90-12.57)), Hp-IgG increasing was associated with the rise of CA125 (P=0.024, OR (95%CI): 4.10 (1.54-10.93)). Conclusions: Serum PGII, G-17 and Hp-IgG were associated with CRC risk. The serum levels of G-17 and Hp-IgG were associated with the rise of CA125 in patients with CRC.

Abstract
The bacterial species, Helicobacter pylori, is associated with several gastrointestinal diseases, and poses serious health threats owing to its resistance to antibiotics. Lactobacillus spp., on the other hand, possess probiotic activities that have beneficial effects in humans. However, the mechanisms by which Lactobacillus spp. harbor favorable functions and act against H. pylori infection remain to be explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of bacterial strains, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus acidophilus, termed GMNL-74 and GMNL-185, respectively, to inhibit H. pylori growth and inflammation. Our results showed that GMNL-74 and GMNL-185 possess potent antimicrobial activity against multidrug resistant (MDR)-H. pylori. In addition, an in vitro cell-based model revealed that the inhibition of H. pylori adhesion and invasion of gastric epithelial cells and interleukin-8 production were significantly decreased by treatment with both the Lactobacillus strains. In vivo studies demonstrated that colonization of H. pylori and induced inflammation in the mouse stomach were also alleviated by these Lactobacillus strains. Furthermore, the abundance of beneficial gut bacteria, including Bifidobacterium spp. and Akkermansia muciniphilia, were significantly increased in H. pylori-infected mice treated with GMNL-74 and GMNL-185. These results demonstrate that Lactobacillus spp. ameliorate H. pylori-induced inflammation and supports beneficial gut specific bacteria that act against H. pylori infection.

Abstract
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) II is an imperative member of the superfamily of peroxidases. It serves an essential role in scavenging organic hydroperoxide and H2O2. It is involved in the development of various malignant tumors. In order to investigate the significance of Prx II expressions level in gastric cancer (GC), downregulation of Prx II was performed to investigate its role in the proliferation and migration of gastric adenocarcinoma cells. In GC cells and 45 GC specimens, the mRNA and protein expression levels of Prx II were determined using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot analysis, respectively. The Prx II expression profile in another 116 GC specimens was also detected with immunohistochemistry (IHC). The changes in the proliferation and migration of MKN45 and MGC-803 cells folllowing transfection with small interfering RNA (siRNA) were detected by cell counting kit (CCK)-8, western blot analysis, and Transwell migration and invasion assays. The results revealed that the expression of Prx II in GC tissues and GC cells were significantly upregulated compared with the normal control. There was a significant association between the expression level of Prx II and various factors, including tumor size, histological differentiation, the depth of invasion, the stage of tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) and lymph node metastasis in GC (P<0.05). Survival in patients with higher Prx II expression was significantly decreased compared with those with lower Prx II expression (P<0.01). Prx II, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis were identified as independent prognosis factors of GC (P<0.05). Knockdown of Prx II significantly suppressed the proliferation and the migration of GC cells. These experiments revealed that Prx II promotes the development of GC, affecting the survival of patients with GC.

Abstract
Because persistent inflammation may render the nasopharyngeal mucosa susceptible to carcinogenesis, chronic ear-nose-throat (ENT) disease and its treatment might influence the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Existing evidence is, however, inconclusive and often based on methodologically suboptimal epidemiologic studies. In a population-based case-control study in southern China, we enrolled 2,532 persons with NPC and 2,597 controls, aged 20-74 years, from 2010 to 2014. Odds ratios were estimated for associations between NPC risk and history of ENT and related medications. Any history of chronic ENT disease was associated with a 34% increased risk of NPC. Similarly, use of nasal drops or aspirin was associated with approximately doubled risk of NPC. However, in secondary analyses restricted to chronic ENT diseases and related medication use at least 5 years prior to diagnosis/interview, most results were statistically nonsignificant, except a history of uncured ENT diseases, untreated nasal polyps, and earlier age at first diagnosis of ENT disease and first or most recent aspirin use. Overall, these findings suggest that ENT disease and related medication use are most likely early indications rather than causes of NPC, although the possibility of a modestly increased NPC risk associated with these diseases and related medications cannot be excluded.

Abstract
Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is vital for host immunological surveillance against pathogens. MALT lymphoma, also known as extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphoma, is a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma subtype that predominantly arises in the gastrointestinal tract. Chronic Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is a common cause of gastric MALT lymphoma, although other infections are reported in association with extragastric MALT lymphomas. To our knowledge, here we report the first case of synchronous MALT lymphomas of the colon and stomach in the presence of Strongyloides stercoralis and H. pylori infections that resolved after eradication of both organisms.

Abstract
Cytokine dysregulation is believed to play a key role in the remodeling of the immune system at older age, with evidence pointing to an inability to fine-control systemic inflammation, which seems to be a marker of unsuccessful aging. This reshaping of cytokine expression pattern, with a progressive tendency toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype has been called "inflamm-aging." Despite research there is no clear understanding about the causes of "inflamm-aging" that underpin most major age-related diseases, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and aging itself. While inflammation is part of the normal repair response for healing, and essential in keeping us safe from bacterial and viral infections and noxious environmental agents, not all inflammation is good. When inflammation becomes prolonged and persists, it can become damaging and destructive. Several common molecular pathways have been identified that are associated with both aging and low-grade inflammation. The age-related change in redox balance, the increase in age-related senescent cells, the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) and the decline in effective autophagy that can trigger the inflammasome, suggest that it may be possible to delay age-related diseases and aging itself by suppressing pro-inflammatory molecular mechanisms or improving the timely resolution of inflammation. Conversely there may be learning from molecular or genetic pathways from long-lived cohorts who exemplify good quality aging. Here, we will discuss some of the current ideas and highlight molecular pathways that appear to contribute to the immune imbalance and the cytokine dysregulation, which is associated with "inflammageing" or parainflammation. Evidence of these findings will be drawn from research in cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurological inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis.
