The American Diabetes Association (ADA) "Standards of Care in Diabetes" includes the ADA's current clinical practice recommendations and is intended to provide the components of diabetes care, general treatment goals and guidelines, and tools to evaluate quality of care. Members of the ADA Professional Practice Committee, an interprofessional expert committee, are responsible for updating the Standards of Care annually, or more frequently as warranted. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe an implementation study protocol for an intervention based on educational guidelines focused on seven self-care behaviors, through phone calls to individuals with type 2 diabetes. METHOD We will conduct a hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation pragmatic randomized clinical trial, with 198 individuals with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy, from the Glycemic Self-Monitoring Program of two Primary Health Care in the city of São Paulo and three in Campinas, located in the state of Sao Paulo. Patients will be allocated in a 1:1 ratio to either the intervention or control group. Both groups will receive standard care, with the intervention group also receiving a phone call. During the call, nurses will provide guidance based on seven self-care behaviors, known as The ADCES7 Self-Care Behaviors™. Evaluations will happen at the baseline, and after 3- and 6-months post initiation of the trial. Glycemic levels and adherence to self-care behaviors will be compared before and after the intervention using multiple linear regression models. Through interviews with participants from the intervention group, implementation determinants based on the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behavior (COM-B) model, and implementation outcomes feasibility, acceptability, and appropriateness will be evaluated. EXPECTED OUTCOMES We will evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention while exploring contextual conditions for its implementation in clinical practice of Primary Health Care. This study will provide preliminary evidence on the effectiveness of educational guidance through nurse-led telephone calls, as well as implementation determinants and outcomes in the clinical practice of Primary Health Care. Its results are important for expanding this assistance in locations where nursing consultation for people with diabetes is absent, hindered, or restricted. Study is registered on the ReBEC platform.

Abstract
AIMS To describe the development of a culturally adapted, evidence-based, and theory-driven diabetes self-management programme for Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes receiving insulin injection therapy and to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of the newly developed intervention. METHODS The Medical Research Council framework was adopted to guide the intervention development and a feasibility study. A prospective, two-arm, parallel-group, assessor-blinded randomised controlled trial was conducted. Participants were randomly allocated to receive either the newly developed intervention or parallel attention control contact from community nurses. Between-group differences in changes in outcome variables were analysed using the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS The newly developed intervention consists of one individual interview session, three group-based education sessions, and two telephone-based maintenance sessions. A total of 24 participants were recruited with the recruitment rate and overall retention rate of 77.4 % and 95.8 %, respectively. The results indicated that the intervention participants reported significantly greater improvements in self-efficacy (Hedge's g = 1.69) and self-management behaviours (Hedge's g = 3.24), and reductions in diabetes-related distress (Hedge's g = 1.49) compared with those in the control group (all p< 0.05). CONCLUSION The diabetes self-management programme was feasible and acceptable. The intervention showed promising patient-centred benefits. A future large-scale randomised controlled trial is warranted.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to explore the experience of self-management and glycaemic control in Chinese people with type 2 diabetes receiving insulin injection therapy. METHODS A qualitative descriptive design was adopted with individual, semi-structured interviews. Participants were selected by purposive sampling. All face-to-face interviews were conducted between December 2020 and January 2021. The interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Content analysis was used to analyse the interview data. RESULTS A total of 27 participants were recruited and individually interviewed. Three themes were generated: integrating insulin injection therapy into daily self-management; experiencing uncertainty when coping with suboptimal glycaemic control; and self-management programmes for optimal diabetes control. CONCLUSION All of our findings increase the understanding of self-management and glycaemic control in people with T2D receiving insulin injection therapy. Healthcare professionals should recognise the unmet needs of this cohort to promote their diabetes management. Appropriate and effective self-management programmes should be developed and implemented to alleviate the negative impacts of insulin injection therapy on diabetes management with consideration of cultural and personal context.

Abstract
PHEinAction® is a theory-based nurse-led patient engagement intervention developed among an Italian older adult population with various chronic diseases to facilitate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes in promoting individuals' active roles. This study aims to adapt and evaluate the effectiveness of PHEinAction® on diabetes self-management (DSM) among Turkish type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. First, the generic content of the intervention was customized for diabetes management and adapted for the Turkish population, including back-forward translation and expert panel evaluation; then, a randomized controlled trial was conducted with 51 adult diabetes patients randomly assigned to intervention or the control group receiving the usual care. The intervention consisted of two in-person sessions of 4-week intervals, a telephone consultation, and home-based written exercises, which involved personalized care activities addressing individuals' engagement levels and covering the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects. The scores for treatment adherence, self-efficacy, and patient engagement had significantly improved with a large size effect in the intervention group at the fourth-week follow-up compared with the control group. Findings suggest that the nurse-led personalized patient engagement program could effectively promote DSM.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The primary objective of this research was to assess the impact of a novel, peer-directed intervention (iNSPiRED) on diabetes distress (DD) among veterans with type 2 diabetes and DD. Secondary objectives were to assess iNSPiRED's impact on anxiety, depression, and diabetes self-management behaviors. METHOD A single-blinded, randomized, parallel-group trial was conducted. Participants (n = 218) were recruited through a Veterans Affairs medical center and community agencies in a major metropolitan area from September 2019 through January 2022. Certified mental health peer specialists delivered iNSPiRED, a three-month goal-setting and resource navigation intervention. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, postintervention, and month six. Multilevel random-intercept linear regression models with treatment x time interaction terms were used to assess treatment effects. RESULTS Frequency of following a healthy eating plan was higher for iNSPiRED vs usual care at month three relative to baseline (B = 0.58; p = 0.03) after adjusting for race and socioeconomic status. No other treatment effects differed significantly from zero (ps ≥ 0.05). CONCLUSION Peer-directed interventions have the potential to deliver low-cost, highly scalable care. However, based on the largely negative findings of the current study, it is likely that more intense, multimodal interventions are needed to address DD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the level of diabetes self-management ability in older patients with type 2 diabetes and analyse its relationship with patient activation. Besides, the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between the two was assessed in the study. METHODS Using a cross-sectional design, 200 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited from the community of Yangzhou, China. The Patient Activation Measure (PAM), The Self-efficacy for Diabetes (SED), and The Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Measure (SDSCA) were used in the questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 27.0 and PROCESS macro. RESULTS Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation (p< 0.01) between diabetes self-management ability and patient activation (r=0.312) and self-efficacy (r=0.367). Self-efficacy partially mediated the effect between patient activation and self-management ability in older patients with type 2 diabetes, and the mediating effect accounted for 49.33% of the total effect (p< 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Older patients with type 2 diabetes in the community have a moderate level of self-management ability. Patient activation can improve patients' self-management ability through self-efficacy.
