Abstract
Advances in fish medicine and husbandry have increased the average lifespans of specimens in managed aquarium populations. As a result, an increased incidence and variety of neoplasia is expected. This work characterizes diverse neoplasms arising within a managed population of Atlantic bumper fish acquired via repeated collections from the Charleston Harbor region. A total of 76 neoplasms were evaluated histologically from 41 of 45 fish that died or were killed over a 46-month period, including cutaneous hemangiomas and hemangiosarcomas, lepidocytomas and lepidosarcomas, fibromas, vertebral body or cutaneous osteomas, disseminated lymphomas, testicular leiomyomas, cutaneous or branchial fibrosarcomas, myxomas, fibroblastic lepidosarcoma, teratoid medulloepithelioma, ganglioglioma, malignant nerve sheath tumour, cardiac rhabdomyoma, cutaneous rhabdomyosarcoma, soft tissue sarcoma and renal adenoma. Perioral and cutaneous lesions of vascular and scale origin were observed most frequently. Other, often malignant, neoplasms arose within these benign lesions, resulting in extensive local tissue invasion. However, excluding disseminated lymphomas, metastasis was only detected in one case of hemangiosarcoma. These findings suggest early surgical intervention may limit tissue destruction and loss of display quality. This report details a variety of common and rare neoplasms in fish, as well as the first characterizations of neoplasia in Atlantic bumper and ganglioglioma in fish.

Abstract
Rapid urbanization, industrial activity, and runoff have all played a role in transforming the Anacostia River from a biologically rich ecosystem to an ecologically threatened environment facing extensive pollution. In recent decades, numerous groups have worked to document and begin to address pollution in the waterway, but few have examined the biological impact of these contaminants. To assess water quality, the current study examined the effects of Anacostia water on early fish development and behavior using zebrafish (Danio rerio). Zebrafish embryos and larvae were reared in water samples collected from the Washington Navy Yard from 0-30dpf (days post fertilization). At 7, 15, 20, and 30dpf, larvae were subsampled for morphological (length, girth, eye diameter, inter-eye distance) and behavioral (angular velocity, total distance traveled, swimming velocity, total activity duration, time immobile, frequency and duration of burst swimming, time at the edge of the dish) assessment. Water samples were processed using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) to identify major organic contaminants. Results indicated the presence of 13 bioactive organic contaminants, including siloxane species and hormone derivatives, and accelerated growth and altered swim behaviors in Anacostia-exposed fish after 30 days of exposure. These findings emphasize sublethal but significant impacts of exposure to organic contaminants experienced by fish residing in urban waterways.

Abstract
Neoplasia and associated tissue biomarkers in benthic fishes are commonly used to characterize effects of contaminated sediments in aquatic ecosystems. However, these fish are often migratory or partially-migratory, and thus assessing the effect of location-specific contamination is challenging because the fish will have a complex exposure history. We determined liver and skin neoplasia prevalence for a benthic, partially-migratory fish, white sucker (Catostomus commersonii), and used carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios to determine the diet contribution associated with areas of contaminated sediments within the urbanized portion of the St. Louis River. We then tested which factors were significantly related to neoplasia prevalence, including age, sex, and the percent diet obtained from contaminated areas within the St. Louis River relative to Lake Superior, the reference area. Overall, the prevalence of contaminant-related internal and external tumors was low, <5%. For skin neoplasia prevalence, both sex and age were significant factors, whereas location-specific diet contribution based on stable isotope analysis was not a significant factor. For liver neoplasia prevalence, only age was a significant factor. Nevertheless, for all contaminants measured (polychlorinated biphenyls [PCBs], polychlorinated dibenzodioxins [PCDDs], and polychlorinated dibenzofurans [PCDFs]), there was a significant, negative correlation between liver tissue concentration and Lake Superior diet contribution, confirming that the St. Louis River is the primary source of contaminant exposure. The research highlights the complexity of exposure to location-specific contaminants and potentially infectious agents associated with neoplasia at urban, contaminated sites in the Great Lakes, and elsewhere. It also demonstrates the need to determine the full set of risk factors across life-stages, habitats, and biological endpoints.

Abstract
The prevalence of liver and skin tumors in brown bullhead ( Ameiurus nebulosus) from the Anacostia River (Washington, DC) and nearby areas was determined in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The objectives were to (1) compare tumor prevalence across space and time; (2) analyze the 1992–2016 Chesapeake Bay Tumor Database to identify reference locations and test age, length, weight, and sex as covariates; and (3) explore whether changes in bullhead exposure to contaminants can explain the observed trends. With logistic regression, we reported large statistically significant decreases in liver tumor probabilities in bullheads from the Anacostia CSX Bridge (ANAC) area between 1996 and 2001 (merged: female, 77.8%; male, 48.6%), 2009 to 2011 (female, 42.5%; male, 16.6%), and 2014 to 2016 (female, 18.0%; male, 5.7%). Skin tumors decreased by a factor of six in both females and males. Polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAC) initiate liver neoplasms and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and DDT compounds are promoters. The causes of skin tumors in bullhead are uncertain. Biomarker and tissue data show decreases in PAC-DNA adducts and PCB and DDT contamination in ANAC bullheads. It is likely that the decreased liver tumor prevalence is associated with decreased exposure to these contaminants.

Abstract
We report the spontaneous occurrence of oral neoplasms in pickhandle barracuda Sphyraena jello Cuvier, 1829 from Parangipettai, on the southeast coast of India. A total of 11736 fish were examined, of which 43 were affected with oral tumours, with an overall prevalence of 0.37%. Gross and clinical symptoms included reddish to grayish-white distended tumourous growths on the gingiva, intra-oral bones and tongue. The tumours exhibited delayed eruption and intra- or extra-oral swelling, varied in consistency from extremely firm to fleshy and released mucinous material. The majority of tumours consisted of numerous clumped toothlets, but some included hardened tissues. Local area invasion/transmission was observed in most cases; however, necropsy examination revealed no gross evidence of distant metastasis into visceral organs. Radiographic examination of compound odontomas revealed distinct unilocular radio-opaque mini-toothlets surrounded by defined radiolucency, whereas complex odontomas exhibited unilocular and indistinct radio-opaque masses within a much more extensive radiolucent zone. Histopathologically, the intra-oral tumour lesions were characterized by numerous imperfect (germ) toothlets consisting of a disorganized combination of dental tissues: pulp tissues with manifested and predominantly mixed hard dental tissues of immature dentine and enamel, numerous small to large and round to polyhedral ossicles embedded in hypocellular fibrous stromal tissues and sparsely spaced bland spindloid cells with cleft-like spaces of loose mucoid stroma. Histochemically, the neoplastic lesions stained positive for periodic acid-Schiff and Masson's trichrome. Based on the clinical and histological findings, the tumours were diagnosed as compound odontomas, complex odontomas, odontogenic myxomas, lingual myxomas and psammomatoid ossifying fibromas.

Abstract
From the 1940s through 1977, at least 590,000kg of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were released into the Hudson River from General Electric manufacturing plants located in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, New York. In 1984, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency designated a nearly 322km reach as the Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site. Here we describe a Fish Health Assessment study, part of a Natural Resource Damage Assessment, that evaluated the prevalence of toxicopathic lesions in adult brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus), smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), and yellow perch (Perca flavescens). In fall 2001, 29-51 fish of each species were collected in fall 2001 from highly contaminated areas below the plants (Thompson Island Pool (TIP) and Stillwater Dam Pool (STW)), an upriver reference area (Feeder Dam Pool (FDP)), and a reference lake, Oneida Lake (ODA). The focus was on histopathologic lesions and observations associated with contaminant exposure: liver-neoplasms, foci of cellular alteration, bile duct hyperplasia; testes-ovotestis (testicular oocytes), germ cell degeneration, altered developmental stage; ovaries-atresia and altered developmental stage. Lesions associated with PCB exposure were defined as those with significantly greater prevalence and/or severity in TIP and STW compared with ODA and FDP. For brown bullhead and smallmouth bass, no lesions or changes in gonadal development met those criteria. In yellow perch, ovarian atresia was the only lesion associated with PCB exposure. Prevalence was 53% in FDP, 75% in ODA, and 100% in both STW and TIP; severity increased from mostly minimal to mild-moderate. Because of the high prevalence of atresia in reference collections, it is likely that factors other than PCBs are also involved. As part of a post-dredging monitoring plan, we recommend assessing gonad structure and function in yellow perch collected at the time of spawning in locations with a range of PCB contamination.
