Abstract
PURPOSE Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is a widespread condition that affects sleep leading to daytime sleepiness, depression, and reduced quality of life. This study aims to determine and describe how patients with RLS experience their everyday life, with a focus on facilitators and barriers related to Maslow's hierarchical theory of human needs. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were analysed with qualitative content analysis resulting in facilitators and barriers affecting the fulfilment of the five human needs. RESULTS Addressing RLS symptoms through medications and a quiet sleep environment fulfils psychological needs. Control over RLS symptoms, engagement in activities, trust in treatments, and social support meet safety and security needs. Social inclusion, close relationships, and meaningful interactions fulfil a sense of belongingness and love needs despite RLS. Competence in managing RLS, effective self-care strategies, confident communication, and trust-building support esteem needs. Finally, comprehensive understanding through person-centred interventions and coping fulfils the self-actualization needs in managing RLS. CONCLUSION Holistic and person-centred interventions, including facilitators for the fulfilment of physiological, psychological, and social needs could help healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a disease from the spectrum of movement disorders, the prevalence of which increases significantly during pregnancy and is associated with poor sleep, a drop in daytime energy, and the development of psychological disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period. METHODS The IRLSS scale was used to determine the presence of RLS symptoms. The total test sample that included the tested and control groups was (n=390) subjects. The examined group consisted of pregnant women (n=260), and the control group consisted of female students (n=130). In total, 260 pregnant women were monitored 6 months after pregnancy. Three measurements were performed, first in the third trimester of pregnancy, second two months after delivery, third 6 months after delivery, while one cross-sectional measurement was performed for the control group. RESULTS The prevalence of RLS in pregnancy is highest in the third trimester and amounts to 26.5 %. In the postpartum period, a significant decrease in the prevalence of RLS was observed, measured two months after delivery (18.1 %). Postpartum, over time, a decrease in the prevalence of RLS was noticed, and six months after delivery it was (7.3 %), when it practically approached the prevalence of the control group (standard population) which was (6.2 %). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of RLS is highest during the third trimester of pregnancy and decreases after delivery so that 6 months after delivery it approaches the prevalence of the standard population.

Abstract
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common neurological disorder characterised by an urge to move arms and legs, usually associated with discomfort, pain, motor restlessness, and sleep disturbance. An individually adapted treatment is needed but difficult to optimise, which makes shared decision-making (SDM) important. However, brief validated instruments on how patients with RLS perceive their involvement in treatment decisions are lacking. Therefore, the aim was to validate two instruments, SURE (Sure of myself, Understand information, Risk-benefit ratio, Encouragement, i.e., to assess decisional conflict) and CollaboRATE (brief patient survey focused on SDM, i.e., to assess SDM), in patients with RLS. A cross-sectional design, including 788 participants with RLS (65% females, mean [SD] age 70.8 [11.4] years) from a national patient organisation for RLS, was used. A postal survey was sent out to collect data regarding weight, height, comorbidities, demographics, and RLS-related treatment data. The following instruments were included: the SURE, CollaboRATE, Restless Legs Syndrome-6 Scale, and eHealth Literacy Scale. Confirmatory factor analysis and Rasch models were used to assess the validity and reliability of the SURE and CollaboRATE. Measurement invariance, unidimensionality, and differential item functioning (DIF) across age, gender, and medication groups were assessed. The SURE and CollaboRATE were both identified as unidimensional instruments with satisfactory internal consistency. No DIF across age and gender was identified, while significant DIF was observed for both the SURE and CollaboRATE regarding medication use categories. However, both the SURE and CollaboRATE are potential instruments to be used in research, but also as reflection tools by healthcare professionals, patients, and students to explore and assess SDM, and support its development in clinical care.

Abstract
Several pivotal differences in sleep and sleep disorders are recognized between women and men. This is not only due to changes in hormonal balance during women's reproductive life, such as in pregnancy and menopause. Women are more likely to report insomnia and non-specific symptoms of apneas, such as fatigue or mood disturbance, compared to men. Thus, it is important for clinicians and researchers to take sex and gender differences into account when addressing sleep disorders in order to acknowledge the biology unique to women. We present a narrative review that delves into the primary sleep disorders, starting from basic science, to explore the impact of gender differences on sleep and the current status of research on women's sleep health.

Abstract
Comorbidity between Restless Legs Syndrome and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder remains a matter of debate. This putative association, possibly reflecting a shared brain iron homeostasis and dopaminergic dysfunction, supports the hypothesis of a neurodevelopmental component in Restless Legs Syndrome pathogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder symptoms prevalence in adult patients with primary Restless Legs Syndrome compared to another ill group of patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome to control for the disease specific effects on psychiatric symptoms and a healthy individuals control group. Clinical data were obtained through standardized and validated self-administrated questionnaires evaluating Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder symptoms frequencies in 139 outpatients with idiopathic Restless Legs Syndrome, 111 patients with treated obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and 136 healthy subjects. Our findings demonstrate a higher prevalence of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms among both male and female patients with Restless Legs Syndrome, compared to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients and healthy subjects (33.3 and 43.5%, respectively, p < 0.001). Only women presented a strong relationship between Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Restless Legs Syndrome severity (p < 0.001). Male and female in the three groups showed similar Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder symptom prevalence. These findings indicate that Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms among adult patients with Restless Legs Syndrome populations are a robust phenomenon. These data provide arguments in favor of an enlargement of the clinical neuropsychological presentation of Restless Legs Syndrome and question the role of decreased brain iron of these psychiatric symptoms.

Abstract
Background Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a prevalent neuro-sensory disorder that impairs quality of life. In this systematic review and modelling study, we estimated the global and regional prevalence of RLS and its associated factors. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, and Medline for population-based studies on RLS prevalence published up to 12 November 2023. The included studies reported prevalence using the International Restless Leg Syndrome Study Group's (IRLSSG) minimal diagnostic criteria without limitations on frequency, duration, or severity. We applied a multilevel multivariable mixed-effects meta-regression to generate the age-specific and sex-specific prevalence of RLS for high socio-demographic index (H-SDI) and low and middle socio-demographic index (LM-SDI) regions. We pooled odds ratios (ORs) for RLS associated factors using random-effects models. Finally, we derived the regional prevalence and cases of RLS based on an associated factor-based model. Results From 52 articles across 23 countries, the global RLS prevalence in 2019 was estimated to be 7.12% (95% confidence interval (CI) = 5.15-9.76) among adults 20-79 years of age, equating to 356.07 million (95% CI = 257.61-488.09) affected individuals. Prevalence was similar in H-SDI (7.29%; 95% CI = 5.04-10.41) and LM-SDI (7.10%; 95% CI = 5.16-9.70) regions, with the majority of cases in LM-SDI countries (323.06 million; 90.73%). Europe had the highest (7.60%; 95% CI = 5.44-10.52) and Africa the lowest regional prevalence (6.48%; 95% CI = 4.70-8.87). The Western Pacific Region, meanwhile, had the most cases (111.91 million; 95% CI = 80.93-153.42). Factors positively associated with RLS included advanced age (OR = 1.13; 95% CI = 1.04-1.24), smoking (OR = 1.46; 95% CI = 1.29-1.64), depression (OR = 1.71; 95% CI = 1.26-2.32), and diabetes (OR = 1.54; 95% CI = 1.19-1.97). Conclusions A considerable global burden of RLS exists. Effective strategies are needed to increase awareness and optimise resource allocation to address this often-overlooked condition. High-quality epidemiological investigations employing standardised and rigorous criteria for RLS are essential for addressing RLS burden more effectively. Registration PROSPERO: CRD42020161860.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The primary aim was to estimate the pooled mean score of quality of life (QoL) (total, mental and physical health components) among patients with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). Secondary aims were to assess: (I) QoL differences for RLS vs. control groups, (II) heterogeneity and possible sources; and (III) moderating variables. METHODS Studies identified in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest between January 2000 and December 2022 were included. Methodological quality was assessed with Newcastle Ottawa Scale. The protocol was pre-registered (PROSPERO, CRD42023387318). RESULTS Twenty-seven studies (20121 participants, 12 countries) were included. The corrected pooled estimated mean score of QoL was 47.92 (27 studies, CI 95 %: 43.11 to 52.72, range 0-100, i.e., low-high QoL) and was marginally affected by publication year (increased 0.89 by each year, p = 0.12). The corrected pooled estimated mean score of the mental health component was 47.32 (17 studies, 95 % CI: 43.12 to 51.51, range 0-100) and influenced by RLS instrument (decreased with recent versions, p = 0.05). The corrected pooled estimated mean score of the physical health component was 39.08 (17 studies, 95 % CI: 33.05 to 45.10, range 0-100), with no statistically significant moderator. The pooled estimated QoL scores were statistically significantly lower in RLS patients compared to control groups with standardized mean difference (SMD) of -0.78, -0.57 and -0.50 respectively for overall QoL (24 studies), physical and mental health components (14 studies). Total QoL SMD was affected by proportion of women. CONCLUSION Low QoL was revealed among RLS patients, which was statistically significantly reduced compared to control groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Caucasian patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) frequently exhibit periodic limb movements during sleep (PLMS), which may increase the risk of hypertension. We evaluated the positivity rate of PLMS and factors associated with positivity in Japanese patients with RLS, and tested whether the complications of PLMS are associated with the presence of hypertension. METHODS We retrospectively investigated polysomnographic data and the presence or absence of hypertension in patients with RLS. Patients with systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg or those taking antihypertensive medication were categorized as the group with hypertension. RESULTS Among 468 patients, 200 (42.7%) had periodic limb movement index (PLMI) values ≥ 15/h and 108 (23.1%) met the criteria of positivity for hypertension. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that only higher age was significantly associated with PLMI values ≥ 15/h. Multiple linear regression analyses of factors associated with an increased PLMI also showed that increased PLMI was significantly correlated with higher age and male sex, but not with the international restless legs scale scores. Multiple logistic regression analysis also revealed that higher age and body mass index, not PLMI values ≥ 15/h, were significantly associated with the presence of hypertension. CONCLUSION The PLMS-positivity rate may be lower in Japanese patients with RLS than in Caucasian patients, and it increases with age and male sex, but not with the severity of the disorder. Furthermore, PLMS complications were not associated with the risk of hypertension in Japanese patients with RLS.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Sex differences in the prevalence of restless legs syndrome (RLS) have been reported, with a higher prevalence in women than in men. However, sex differences in clinical presentation remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the phenotypic differences in patients with RLS between sexes by comparing clinical presentations, iron status, polysomnographic parameters, and treatment. METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 614 patients (225 men, 389 women) diagnosed with RLS. To enhance the robustness of the study, an age-matched control group of 179 men and 286 women without sleep disorders was also included. Information on demographics and sleep-related questionnaires were collected. Iron status was evaluated using blood samples, and polysomnography was performed to evaluate periodic leg movements and comorbid sleep disorders. RESULTS Our analysis revealed no sex difference in the severity of RLS but a difference in the pattern of symptoms. Women had more frequent symptoms of pain and awakening during sleep, while men had more common motor symptoms (both self-reported symptoms and periodic leg movement on polysomnography). Women with RLS also had lower iron parameters and received more frequent iron supplementation therapy than men. In contrast to women with RLS, who presented higher sleep disturbances and depressive mood, men with RLS had a higher risk of comorbidities such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease. These sex differences were notably more pronounced than in the control group. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that sex differences exist in RLS phenotypes, and clinicians should consider these differences for treatment. CITATION Kim J, Kim JR, Park HR, Joo EY. Abstract
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common neurological sensorimotor disorder that impairs sleep, mood and quality of life. RLS is defined by an urge to move the legs at rest that increases in the evening and at night, and is frequently associated with metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Symptoms frequency, age at RLS onset, severity, familial history and consequences of RLS vary widely between patients. A genetic susceptibility, iron deficiency, dopamine deregulation, and possible hypo-adenosinergic state may play a role in the pathophysiology of RLS. Polysomnographic recordings found often periodic leg movements during sleep and wakefulness in patients with RLS. RLS can be classified as primary or comorbid with major diseases: iron deficiency, renal, neurological, rheumatological and lung diseases. First-line treatments are low-dose dopamine agonists, and alpha-2-delta ligands depending on the clinical context, and second/third line opiates for pharmacoresistant forms of RLS. Augmentation syndrome is a serious complication of dopamine agonists and should be prevented by using the recommended low dose. Despite an increase in knowledge, RLS is still underdiagnosed, poorly recognized, resulting in substantial individual health burden and socioeconomic coast, and education is urgently needed to increase awareness of this disabling disorder.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES The pathomechanism of restless legs syndrome (RLS) is related to brain iron deficiency and iron therapy is effective for RLS; however, the effect of iron therapy on human brain iron state has never been studied with magnetic resonance imaging. This study aimed to investigate the change of brain iron concentrations in patients with RLS after intravenous iron therapy using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM). METHODS We enrolled 31 RLS patients and 20 healthy controls. All participants underwent initial baseline (t0) assessment using brain magnetic resonance imaging, serum iron status, and sleep questionnaires including international RLS Study Group rating scale (IRLS). RLS patients underwent follow-up tests at 6 and 24 weeks (t1 and t2) after receiving 1000 mg ferric carboxymaltose. Iron content of region-of-interest on QSM images was measured for 13 neural substrates using the fixed-shaped method. RESULTS RLS symptoms evaluated using IRLS were significantly improved after iron treatment (t0: 29.7 ± 6.5, t1: 19.5 ± 8.5, t2: 21.3 ± 10.1; p < .001). There was no significant difference in susceptibility values between the controls and RLS patients at t0. In the caudate nucleus, putamen, and pulvinar thalamus of RLS patients, the QSM values differed significantly for three timepoints (p = .035, .048, and .032, respectively). The post-hoc analysis revealed that the QSM values increased at t1 in the caudate nucleus (66.8 ± 18.0 vs 76.4 ± 16.6, p = .037) and decreased from t1 to t2 in the putamen (69.4 ± 16.3 vs 62.5 ± 13.6, p = .025). Changes in the QSM values for the pulvinar and caudate nuclei at t1 were positively and negatively correlated with symptomatic improvement, respectively (r = 0.361 and -0.466, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Intravenous iron treatment results in changes in brain iron content which correlate to reductions in RLS severity. This suggests a connection between symptom improvement and the associated specific brain regions constituting the sensorimotor network.

Abstract
During sleep, the lower extremities exhibit periodic repetitive movements which are referred to as Period Limb Movement (PLM). Polysomnography (PSG) is the gold standard for diagnosing periodic limb movement disorder. The frequency of PLM episodes per hour of sleep (PLMI) determines the severity of the condition. PLM are generated by a dynamic process, however PLMI measures only the average PLM rate and does not capture the dynamic properties of PLM. Here, we characterise PLM dynamics using a generalised dynamic model as a function of sleep stage, timing of past PLM events and adjacent sleep disordered-breathing events. We analysed PSG recordings of 237 men and 222 women enrolled in the Multi-ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) dataset to model dynamic PLM features. We statistically analysed whether these dynamics are associated with sex, age, and BMI. Modelling suggests instantaneous PLM rates are greater in men than women and higher in N1 and N2 non-rapid eye movement sleep than N3 and rapid eye movement sleep. The generalised model constitutes statistically robust approach towards the characterisation of periodic limb movement.Clinical Relevance- The generalised model may enable differentiated diagnostics of periodic limb movement disorder.

Abstract
There is now ample evidence that differences in sex and gender contribute to the incidence, susceptibility, presentation, diagnosis, and clinical course of many lung diseases. Some conditions are more prevalent in women, such as pulmonary arterial hypertension and sarcoidosis. Some life stages-such as pregnancy-are unique to women and can affect the onset and course of lung disease. Clinical presentation may differ as well, such as the higher number of exacerbations experienced by women with cystic fibrosis (CF), more fatigue in women with sarcoidosis, and more difficulty in achieving smoking cessation. Outcomes such as mortality may be different as well, as indicated by the higher mortality in women with CF. In addition, response to therapy and medication safety may also differ by sex, and yet, pharmacogenomic factors are often not adequately addressed in clinical trials. Various aspects of lung/sleep biology and pathobiology are impacted by female sex and female reproductive transitions. Differential gene expression or organ development can be impacted by these biological differences. Understanding these differences is the first step in moving toward precision medicine for all patients. This article is the second part of a state-of-the-art review of specific effects of sex and gender focused on epidemiology, disease presentation, risk factors, and management of selected lung diseases. We review the more recent literature and focus on guidelines incorporating sex and gender differences in pulmonary hypertension, CF and non-CF bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis, restless legs syndrome and insomnia, and critical illness. We also provide a summary of the effects of pregnancy on lung diseases and discuss the impact of sex and gender on tobacco use and treatment of nicotine use disorder.

Abstract
Although periodic limb movement during sleep (PLMS) and restless legs syndrome (RLS) are common in children and adolescents, they are relatively overlooked as a target of treatment. PLMS has been evaluated as having a lower clinical significance than RLS. This study examined the relationship of socio-behavioral factors of PLMS in Korean adolescents and checked whether PLMS is associated with excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), depending on whether restless legs symptoms accompany it. In a cross-sectional study, 25,789 adolescents between 12 and 18 years of age (15.76 ± 1.73 years; female 51.49%) were evaluated using an online survey. Various self-report questionnaires were used to assess PLMS and RLS symptoms, EDS, sleep habits, and various socio-behavioral factors. The prevalence of self-perceived PLMS and restless legs symptoms were 903 (3.50%) and 1311 (5.08%), respectively. Of the 1311 participants, 399 had self-perceived PLMS. The odds ratios (ORs) for self-perceived PLMS in participants with restless legs symptoms were: males (OR = 1.528; 95% CI: 1.145–2.040), usually/always experienced apnea apnea (OR, 3.006; 95% CI, 1.954–4.624), increased proneness to Internet addiction (OR = 1.013; 95% CI: 1.001–1.025), sometimes/often consuming coffee (OR = 1.312; 95% CI: 1.015–1.695), EDS (OR = 0.826; 95% CI: 0.488–1.398), and perceived insufficient sleep (OR = 1.143; 95% CI: 0.835–1.565). The male gender, witness apnea, consuming coffee, and being prone to Internet addiction were identified as factors significantly associated with self-perceived PLMS in participants with restless legs symptoms. However, EDS and insufficient sleep were associated with self-perceived PLMS in the absence of restless legs symptoms.

Abstract
The relationship between restless legs syndrome (RLS) and cardiovascular disease remains enigmatic in the general population, and its prognostic value in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) is unknown. In this study, the frequency of RLS-like symptoms was assessed using a validated instrument in 3,266 patients undergoing cardiac catheterization (mean age 64 years, 62% male, 23% Black, and 74% with obstructive CAD). Patients were followed for primary end points of cardiovascular death or incident myocardial infarction. Fine and Gray hazard models explored the association between RLS and incident events after adjustment for demographic and clinical risk factors. In the total cohort, 29% of patients reported mild (rare or sometimes) symptoms, and 15% of patients had moderate/severe (often to almost always) symptoms of RLS. Female sex (odds ratio [OR] 2.11, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.68 to 2.57), body mass index (OR 1.12 per 5 kg/m2, 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.22), diabetes (OR 1.43, 95%,1.15 to 1.79), and β-blocker use (OR 1.35, 95% CI, 1.07 to 1.72) were independently associated with moderate/severe symptoms of RLS compared with no symptoms. Over a 5-year follow-up period, 991 patients suffered an adverse event. Compared with those with no symptoms, patients with moderate/severe RLS had significantly higher risk of the primary end point (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.33, 95%),CI 1.01 to 1.76) after adjustment for demographic and clinical risk factors. The association was more significant in men than women, HR 1.98, 95% CI, 1.41 to 2.78 versus HR 0.99 (,95% CI, 0.64 to 1.52, p interaction= 0.013. In conclusion, among men with CAD, moderate-to-severe symptoms of RLS are associated with significantly higher risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes, independent of traditional risk factors.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study investigated the associations of peripheral iron status with different manifestations of restless legs syndrome (RLS), including leg movements (LMs) on polysomnography (PSG), disease severity, and impact on patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 108 patients with RLS were enrolled at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital's Center for Sleep Medicine. Demographic information, disease characteristics, RLS severity, and impact on patients were assessed through a semi-structured questionnaire. Peripheral iron indicators [serum ferritin, iron, and transferrin concentrations; unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC) and total iron-binding capacity (TIBC); transferrin saturation (TSAT)] were measured following PSG to assess sleep stages, respiratory events, microarousals and LM parameters. Data from patients with and without ferritin concentration < 50 µg/L were compared in crude analyses, and Spearman correlations of other iron indicators with RLS data were examined. An ordinal logistic regression model was used to adjust for age, sex, body mass index, years of education, age at the time of RLS onset, prior treatment (yes/no), C-reactive protein (CRP)/hemoglobin level, total sleep time and apnea-hypopnea index. RESULTS Multivariate analysis showed that periodic LMs during sleep (PLMS) and other LM parameters were significantly associated with a ferritin concentration < 50 µg/L, UIBC, TIBC, and serum transferrin concentration, but not serum iron or TSAT. By contrast, the severity and impact of RLS were not associated with a ferritin concentration < 50 µg/L or other peripheral iron indicators in the multivariate model. CONCLUSION In this study, peripheral iron status was associated mainly with motor components (LMs on PSG) rather than sensory components (severity and impact of RLS) after adequately controlling for potential confounders, such as CRP and hemoglobin levels. Commonly used peripheral iron metabolism indicators may therefore not be ideal biomarkers of RLS severity or impact on patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Restless legs syndrome (RLS) has a significant effect on sleep and quality of life. Delays in diagnosis and treatment are frequent due to a lack of awareness. In this study, a clinical analysis was performed to examine the relationship between sleep, mood, and cognitive function in RLS. METHODS According to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score (PSQI), patients with RLS were divided into a sleep disorders group (SD, PSQI > 7) and non-sleep disorders group (NSD, PSQI ≤ 7). Healthy controls were selected as a control group matched for age, cultural background, and marital status. We compared differences between the three groups using the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression (HAMD), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). The SD and NSD groups were also assessed with the Restless Leg Syndrome Rating Scale (RLSRS) and the severity of RLS between the two groups was compared. The analysis used t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. RESULTS (1) Among the 54 RLS patients, 30 people in the control group, 35 patients with sleep disorders (SD, 65%), and 19 patients without sleep disorders (NSD, 35%), there were no significant differences in age, educational level, marital status, or trauma history. (2) The comparison results of the case group (SD and NSD) and the control group showed highly significant differences (P < 0.01) in the PSQI-HAMA-HAMD score but no significant differences between the NSD group, the SD group, and the control group in MMSE score. There was no difference between the NSD group and the control group in the MoCA, but a significant difference (P < 0.05) between the SD group and the control group was found. (3) The comparison between the NSD and the SD groups revealed significant differences in the RLSRS, HAMA, and HAMD scores (P < 0.05), but there were no statistical differences (P > 0.05) between two groups on MMSE and MoCA score. (4) Correlation and regression showed that there was a linear correlation between PSQI scores and RLSRS and HAMD scores in patients with RLS (P < 0.05). The regression equation was PSQI = - 2.393 + 0.494 RLSRS + 0.170 HAMD. CONCLUSIONS RLS patients were prone to sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression. Sleep disorders increased with the severity of the RLS and had some influence on the patient's cognitive function. Sleep disorders were closely related to RLSRS and HAMD.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease affecting 2-4% of the general population. Accompanying subjective symptoms (pruritus or pain) may cause decreased life quality including sleep disorders (SD). Sixty psoriatic patients fulfilled the following questionnaires: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), STOP BANG for the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) assessment, and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) Severity Scale. Patients' laboratory and clinical data were also investigated. All data obtained were compared to 40 participants without dermatoses. Mean PSQI, risk of OSAS, and RLS severity of psoriatics were significantly higher than in controls (p < 0.0001, p < 0.05, p < 0.05 respectively). There was a positive correlation between the time of suffering from psoriasis and the risk of OSAS (R = 0.286, p < 0.05). We did not observe any significant relationship between PSQI, risk of OSAS, or RLS and psoriasis severity assessed with PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index). We identified four possible predictors of RLS: glucose, CRP and total cholesterol concentrations, and PSQI. SD are significantly more frequent in psoriatics than in people without chronic dermatological diseases but surprisingly they are not correlated with psoriasis severity. SD decrease patients' life quality and may result in serious consequences. Therefore, establishing recommendations concerning screening for SD and their predictors should be considered.

Abstract
Restless legs syndrome is a common neurological disorder with a clear female predominance. This study aims to evaluate gender differences in clinical, laboratory and polysomnographic features in patients with restless legs syndrome. For this retrospective analysis, 42 women and 42 men from the Innsbruck RLS database matched by age and therapy were included. Demographic data as well as different severity scales (IRLS, RLS‐6 and CGI) were evaluated. Laboratory parameters included several indicators of serum iron status. In all patients, polysomnography was performed according to the AASM guidelines, and periodic leg movements during sleep were scored according to the AASM criteria. IRLS, RLS‐6 and CGI revealed more severe symptoms in women (IRLS median [range]: 17.5 [0–35] versus 13.5 [0–32], p = 0.028; RLS‐6 median [range]: 18 [0–39] versus 12 [1–42], p = 0.014). Women had lower serum ferritin levels than men (median [range] in μg L−1: 74 [9–346] versus 167 [15–389], p < 0.001). Twenty‐two women and eight men (53.7% versus 22.2%, p = 0.003) had ferritin values below 75 μg L−1. Periodic leg movements during sleep indices were significantly lower in women than in men (median [range] in number per hr: 11.4 [0–62.5] versus 40 [0–154], p = 0.004, and 12.6 [0–58.5] versus 40 [0.5–208], p = 0.002, for night I and night II, respectively). Restless legs syndrome severity as measured by validated scales was worse in women, while periodic leg movements during sleep indices were higher in men. These results suggest a possible gender difference in phenotypical presentation of restless legs syndrome, manifesting with predominantly sensory symptoms in women and predominantly motor symptoms in men.
