Abstract
The employment of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanomaterials has been rapidly increasing in bioapplications owing to their biocompatibility, drug degradation, tunable porosity, and intrinsic biodegradability. This evidence suggests that the multifunctional bimetallic ions can behave as remarkable candidates for infection control and wound healing. In this study, bimetallic MOFs (Zn-HKUST-1 and FolA-Zn-HKUST-1) embedded with and without folic acid were synthesized and used for tissue sealing and repairing incisional wound sites in mice models. For comparison, HKUST-1 and FolA-HKUST-1 were also synthesized. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measured for HKUST-1, FolA-HKUST-1, Zn-HKUST-1, and FolA-Zn-HKUST-1 from N2 isotherms was found to be 1868, 1392, 1706, and 1179 m2/g, respectively. The measurements of contact angle values for Zn-HKUST-1, FolA-HKUST-1, and Zn-FolA-HKUST-1 were identified as 4.95 ± 0.8, 43.6 ± 3.4, and 60.62 ± 2.0°, respectively. For topical application in wound healing, they display a wide range of healing characteristics, including antibacterial and enhanced wound healing rates. In addition, in vitro cell migration and tubulogenic potentials were evaluated. The significant reduction in the wound gap and increased expression levels for CD31, eNOS, VEGF-A, and Ki67 were observed from immunohistological analyses to predict the angiogenesis behavior at the incision wound site. The wound healing rate was analyzed in the excisional dermal wounds of diabetic mice model in vivo. On account of antibacterial potentials and tissue-repairing characteristics of Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions, designing an innovative mixed metal ion-based biomaterial has wide applicability and is expected to modulate the growth of various gradient tissues.

Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are common complications of diabetes mellitus that affect patients' quality of life and pose a burden on the healthcare system. Although malnutrition and specific nutritional deficiencies can seriously impact wound healing in patients with chronic nonhealing wounds, the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of DFUs is still not clear. This review discusses the significance of frequent diet assessment and nutritional education of patients with DFUs with individualized correction of deficiencies and emphasis on adequate protein intake along with correction of vitamins D, C, E, and selenium status. Future research should clarify the impact of nutritional interventions, potentially involving the use of probiotics, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, and successfully translating the findings into practical guidelines for use in everyday clinical practice.

Abstract
Background and aims The evidence regarding folate intake and mortality risk among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association of folate intake with the risk of mortality among individuals with T2D. Methods A total of 9,196 participants with T2D from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) and NHANES 1999–2014 were included. The data of survival were obtained by the cohort database linked with the national death index up to 31 December 2015. The Cox proportional hazard model was used to evaluate the relationship between dietary folate with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Results Among patients with T2D, dietary folate intake was negatively correlated with all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and cancer mortality in men, and for women with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. The multivariate adjustment hazard ratio (HR) (95% CIs) for men of highest vs. lowest quartile was 0.77 (0.66–0.90), 0.61 (0.45–0.83), and 0.70 (0.49–0.99) for all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality, respectively. Among women, the multivariate adjustment HR (95% CIs) of highest vs. lowest quartile was 0.77 (0.64–0.92), 0.52 (0.33–0.83), and 0.78 (0.50–1.22) for all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality, respectively. Conclusion Higher dietary intake of folate was significantly associated with lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. This cohort study suggested that increasing the dietary folate intake may reduce mortality risk among U.S. adults with T2D.

Abstract
We reviewed the literature to evaluate potential associations between vitamins, nutrients, nutritional status or nutritional interventions and presence or healing of foot ulceration in diabetes. Embase, Medline, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library were searched for studies published prior to September 2020. We assessed eligible studies for the association between nutritional status or interventions and foot ulcers. Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. Overall, there is a correlation between poor nutritional status and the presence of foot ulceration or a delay in healing. However, there is not enough data to reach conclusions about whether the relationships are causal or only association. Further research is required to test whether any forms of nutritional supplementation improve foot ulcer healing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The role of nutritional intervention in wound care has been a topic of controversy. Although the efficacy of macronutrient supplementation has been well described, there is a paucity of evidence and no official recommendation regarding the use of vitamins and minerals to optimize wound healing. This is the first review of vitamin and mineral wound intervention that systematically summarizes the literature using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and distills the evidence by wound type. METHODS In this comprehensive review, the authors outline the nutrients and delivery methods used in the identified studies, analyze reported treatment outcomes, summarize nutrient effectiveness, and propose evidence-based conclusions to improve wound healing outcomes and enhance the consistency of nutritional intervention in wound care. RESULTS Thirty-six studies with a combined total of 2339 patients investigated the use of oral, topical, or intravenous vitamin and/or mineral supplementation for treatment of the following wound types: burn wounds (n = 3), pressure ulcers (n = 7), diabetic ulcers (n = 4), venous ulcers (n = 7), digital ulcers (n = 1), skin incisions (n = 9), hypertrophic scars (n = 4), and sinonasal wounds (n = 1). Improved outcomes were reported in patients with burn wounds receiving vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, D, and E and zinc, calcium, copper, magnesium, selenium, and zinc; patients with pressure ulcers receiving vitamin C and zinc; patients with diabetic ulcers receiving vitamin A, B9, D, and E; patients with venous ulcers receiving zinc; and patients with hypertrophic scars receiving vitamin E. CONCLUSIONS Based on the high-level data provided in this review, the use of specific nutritional interventions may improve the outcome of certain wound types. Further investigation is warranted to draw definitive conclusions.
