Abstract
BACKGROUND Peptic ulcer is a common gastrointestinal disease, and psychological intervention has an important influence on its occurrence and development. AIM To investigate the effect of psychological nursing intervention on the anxiety level and quality of life of patients with gastrointestinal peptic ulcers. METHODS Two groups of patients with peptic ulcer were selected from January to December 2012, with 60 cases in each group, and psychological nursing intervention and routine treatment were respectively performed. Psychological nursing interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy, psychological support and relaxation training. Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and quality of life questionnaire were used to evaluate the anxiety level and quality of life of patients before, during and after treatment. RESULTS The SAS scores of the experimental group significantly decreased over the course of treatment, from 52.3 before treatment to 30.5 after treatment, while SAS scores of the control group did not change significantly. Meanwhile, the experimental group's quality of life score (SF-36) significantly improved over the course of treatment, from 65.2 to 85.2, while the control group remained stable. Further analysis showed that sex and age had no significant influence on the effect of psychotherapy. Both men and women, young and old, showed similar trends in anxiety relief and improved quality of life after treatment. CONCLUSION Psychological nursing-based intervention program has a positive effect on the anxiety level and quality of life of patients with gastrointestinal peptic ulcer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic utility of psychological nursing interventions for prostatic hyperplasia clients while they are receiving therapy. METHODS Clinical data of 110 patients with prostate group hyperplasia who underwent treatment in our hospital were collected and analysed retrospectively, and the selected period was from October 2021 to October 2023. The 110 cases of prostate group hyperplasia patients were divided into a research group and a control group according to the different methods of care, and each group had 55 cases each. The research group received psychological nursing intervention based on the conventional nursing care given to the control group. The total treatment compliance rate and contentment with nursing were contrasted between the research and control groups, and changes in the Self Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) score, Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS) score, Health Survey Short Form score, and sleep problems were observed between the research group and the control group. RESULTS The research group's overall compliance rate was 94.55% (52/53), a substantial increase over the control group's rate, 69.09% (38/55), P < 0.01. Following nursing, the research group's SAS and SDS scores were considerably more reduced than those of the control group, and both groups' scores were substantially lower than they were prior to nursing (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION This retrospective study found that psychological nursing intervention applied to patients with prostatic hyperplasia can effectively improve the patient's compliance with treatment, effectively reduce the occurrence of negative emotions, improve the patient's quality of life, and improve sleep problems. In addition, psychological nursing intervention can effectively alleviate the tension between nurses and patients, and is worthy of clinical application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the intensification of social aging, the susceptibility of the elderly population to diseases has attracted increasing attention, especially chronic heart failure (CHF) that accounts for a large proportion of the elderly.
AIM To evaluate the application value of health concept model-based detailed behavioral care in elderly patients with CHF.
METHODS This study recruited 116 elderly CHF patients admitted from October 2018 to October 2020 and grouped them according to the nursing care that they received. The elderly patients who underwent health concept model-based detailed behavioral care were included in a study group (SG; n = 62), and those who underwent routine detailed behavioral nursing intervention were included as a control group (CG; n = 54). Patients’ negative emotions (NEs), quality of life (QoL), and nutritional status were assessed using the self-rating anxiety/ depression scale (SAS/SDS), the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Ques-tionnaire (MLHFQ), and the Modified Quantitative Subjective Global Assessment (MQSGA) of nutrition, respectively. Differences in rehabilitation efficiency, NEs, cardiac function (CF) indexes, nutritional status, QoL, and nursing satisfaction were comparatively analyzed.
RESULTS A higher response rate was recorded in the SG vs the CG after intervention (P < 0.05). After care, the left ventricular ejection fraction was higher while the left ventricular end-diastolic dimension and left ventricular end systolic diameter were lower in the SG compared with the CG (P < 0.05). The post-intervention SAS and SDS scores, as well as MQSGA and MLHFQ scores, were also lower in the SG (P < 0.05). The SG was also superior to the CG in the overall nursing satisfaction rate (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION Health concept model-based detailed behavioral care has high application value in the nursing care of elderly CHF patients, and it can not only effectively enhance rehabilitation efficiency, but also mitigate patients’ NEs and improve their CF and QoL.

Effectiveness of Postoperative Physiotherapy Compared to Postoperative Instructions by Treating Specialist Only in Patients With an Ankle Fracture: A Systematic Review. FOOT & ANKLE ORTHOPAEDICS 2023; 8:24730114231173680. [PMID: 37197389 PMCID: PMC10184230 DOI: 10.1177/24730114231173680] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 05/19/2023] Open
Abstract
Background In current literature, the benefit of postoperative physiotherapy versus postoperative instructions by treating specialist only remains unclear. The aim of this review is to systematically assess existing literature regarding the functional outcome of postoperative physiotherapy compared to postoperative instructions by treating specialist only in the rehabilitation of patients with an ankle fracture. The secondary aim is to determine if there is a difference in ankle range of motion, strength, pain, complications, quality of life, and patient's satisfaction between these 2 rehabilitation methods. Methods For this review, the PubMed/MEDLINE, PEDro, Embase, Cochrane, and CINAHL databases were searched for studies that compared postoperative rehabilitation groups. Results The electronic data search detected 20 579 articles. After exclusion, 5 studies with a total of 552 patients were included. Overall, no significant benefit in functional outcome of postoperative physiotherapy was seen compared to the instructions-only group. One study even found a significant benefit in favor of the instructions-only group. An exemption for beneficial effect of the use of physiotherapy could be made for younger patients, as 2 studies described younger age as a factor for better outcomes (functional outcome and ankle range of motion) in the postoperative physiotherapy group. Patients' satisfaction, described by one study, was found to be significantly higher in the physiotherapy group (P = .047). All other secondary aims showed no significant difference. Conclusion Because of the limited number of studies and the heterogeneity among studies, a valid conclusion about the general effect of physiotherapy cannot be formed. However, we identified limited evidence suggesting a possible benefit of physiotherapy in younger patients with an ankle fracture in functional outcome and ankle range of motion.

Abstract
Purpose Osteoporosis is especially prevalent in the older population and in women. Fractures lead to many health complications, placing an enormous burden on the health system. Improved knowledge will encourage healthy practices that prevent osteoporosis and help community members avoid unhealthy lifestyles and habits. The goal of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices relating to osteoporosis among male and female students of the Jazan community. Methods The Jazan region has 13 governorates and a population of more than 1.5 million. For this study, 440 participants were selected from seven different governorates, and the osteoporosis knowledge assessment tool (OKAT) was used together with five background variables and some questions on attitude and practice. A Chi-squared test was implemented to identify any significant relationships between the background variables and the knowledge and practice scores. A P value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results Of the 440 participants, 53% were men and 47% women. Thirty-three percent of them held government jobs, 73% had completed university, and 50% had a monthly income of less than 5,000 riyals. Regarding the risk factors for osteoporosis, 62 (14%) smoked, 37 (8.4%) used steroids, 184 (41.8%) had a family history of osteoporosis, and 393 (89.3%) had not attended an education campaign on osteoporosis. The highest number of correct answers in the OKAT was to the question "osteoporosis increases the risk of fractures" (423, 96.1%), and the lowest number of correct answers was to the question "osteoporosis is more common in men" (60, 13.6%). Regarding protective behaviors against osteoporosis, namely physical activity, daily intake of dairy products, attending an education campaign, and background characteristics, attending an education campaign was statistically significant, with a P value of 0.003, but marital status, education level, body mass index (BMI), and occupation were not statistically significant. For the risk factors, sex was statistically significant, along with the daily soft drink intake and smoking but not with the use of steroids. Other background characteristics, such as education level and BMI, were not statistically significant as osteoporosis risk factors. Conclusions The participants' level of knowledge was high, and the risk factors for osteoporosis were still present together with a low level of achievement for protective measures. It is highly recommended that education campaigns be implemented to increase knowledge and encourage improved attitudes and practices.
