Abstract
Active aging has been associated with both personal and social benefits. However, active aging encompasses a broad range of activities, including self-oriented and community-oriented ones. The aim of this study was to explore to what extent generativity is a key factor in differentiating between both types of activity, and to contribute to the theoretical and methodological literature on generativity as a multidimensional concept relevant to later life participation in certain activities related to an active style of living. A sample of 549 older adults who engaged in two types of self-oriented activity (leisure activities and students of University of the Third Age programs) and two types of community-oriented activity (formal volunteering and political activism) participated in this study. Following a mixed-method strategy, we administered several qualitative and quantitative measures of generativity, including generative concern, generative goals, and perceived cultural demand. Our results showed that participants who engaged in self-oriented and community-oriented activities differed on all dimensions of generativity. Differences in generativity were particularly high regarding cultural demand and future generative goals, which were far more frequently mentioned by political activists and volunteers than by university of the third age students and those pursuing leisure activities. Overall, our findings suggest that generativity plays a role in older adults' participation in some (but not all) active aging activities in later life, and that our understanding of generativity in later life gains from a multidimensional assessment of the concept.

Abstract
People with spinal cord injury (SCI) experience a plethora of health conditions that hinder their health and wellness. This qualitative retrospective evaluation describes the perceptions of 14 peoples with SCI, several months after they completed an eight-week telewellness community program (MENTOR-Mindfulness, Exercise and Nutrition To Optimize Resilience). The program offered daily online classes that covered three core wellness domains (mindfulness, exercise, nutrition) and one health coaching session to introduce participants to eight other wellness domains (sleep, self-care, core values, arts & leisure, outdoor time in nature; spiritual practice, relationships, contribution to others). Qualitative analysis resulted in 4 themes related to program benefits, likes, and improvement recommendations. First, participants valued the program for the social support provided by a sense of community and relationship building with peers. Second, self-regulation was facilitated by the comprehensiveness of the program components, easy online access, and shared lifestyle goals for self-improvement among peers. Third, participants reported improved psychological wellbeing and adopted healthy behaviors that were maintained long after the program. Last, future programs should include flexible class times, post-program support, specific exercise adaptations for people with limited arm function, and supplementary in-person meetings. These preliminary findings demonstrate that MENTOR may benefit the wellbeing of people with SCI and warrant further study.

Abstract
The global population is living longer; however, not everyone ages at the same rate with regard to their physical and cognitive abilities and their vulnerability to certain diseases and death. This review aimed to synthesize the contribution of biological age-predictive biomarkers to nutrition research and highlight the implications for future research and clinical practice. MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane CENTRAL were systematically searched on 30 September 2021 for randomized controlled trials and cross-sectional studies examining the association between nutrition and biological age in older adults reporting on genetic, clinical, or molecular biomarkers of biological aging. Cochrane's ROB 2 and ROBINS-I were used to assess the quality of included studies. Synthesis was undertaken narratively. Of 1245 records identified from the search, 13 studies from 8 countries and territories, involving 5043 participants, were included. Seven studies assessed associations between nutrient food intake and telomere attrition, reporting protective effects for branched-chain amino acids, calcium and vitamin D, and a diet of a lower inflammatory index; whereas they found shorter telomeres in people consuming more processed foods and arachidonic acid and other proinflammatory compounds. Five studies examined the associations between plasma nutrition biomarkers and cognitive function, and found a protective effect for HDL cholesterol, lycopene, carotenoids, ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids, and vitamins B, C, D, and E; whereas trans fatty acids and fibrinogen correlated with a decline in cognitive function. One study used Horvath's clock and reported the epigenetic rejuvenation effect of a Mediterranean diet. In conclusion, biological aging was negatively associated with an anti-inflammatory diet. However, a few studies did not control for the confounding effect of other lifestyle factors. Future research should address this and also assess the synergistic effect of different nutrients, their combinations, and evaluate their dose-response relations. Nutrition practice can incorporate updated screening procedures for older people that include relevant biological aging nutrition markers, leading to anti-aging precision nutrition therapy. Abstract
BACKGROUND People with disabilities have few options to participate in wellness programs that are tailored to their health, functional level, specific interests/needs, and available in the comfort of their home. To address this need, we evaluated a mobile health wellness program for people with physical disabilities. METHODS Retrospective pilot evaluation of MENTOR (Mindfulness, Exercise, and Nutrition To Optimize Resilience), an 8-week, 40-hour online telewellness program adapted from the peer reviewed literature on wellness. The three core wellness domains-mindfulness, exercise, and nutrition-were delivered via Zoom to groups of participants with a disability. Each group met weekly with an assigned health coach who responded to Q&A about the program and presented new material on several additional wellness domains that could impact their health (e.g., relationships, contribution to society/community, spending outdoor time in nature). Pre/post measures included the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) and the UAB/Lakeshore Wellness Assessment (LWA). Participants were also interviewed and provided feedback after the program, which was thematically analyzed. RESULTS A total of 154 people from 15 states enrolled in the MENTOR program and 135 completed it (87.7% completers). Data were analyzed from a subset of participants (n=53) who were asked to complete a pre/post assessment and had complete data. Participants who were physically inactive at baseline improved their GLTEQ total activity (P=0.002; effect size =0.56) and moderate-to-vigorous activity scores (P=0.005; effect size =0.53). LWA results demonstrated that participants increased their exercise behavior (P=0.006; effect sizes =0.39) and contribution to society/community (P=0.013; effect size =0.37). Participants with low overall wellness (mental, physical & emotional health) at baseline had statistically significant improvements in exercise, nutrition, sleep, core values, self-care, hobbies, contribution to society/community, relationships, and overall wellness (all P<0.05 with effect sizes ranging from 0.43 to 1.07). Resultant qualitative themes were: (I) lifestyle transformation occurred through new positive experiences, physical and mental health benefits, and adoption of healthy behaviors; and (II) engagement through accessible online bonding through enjoyable and professional experiences. CONCLUSIONS A pilot telewellness program for people with disabilities is feasible and potentially effective in improving several domains of wellness. There is a need for precision-based mobile health (mHealth) programs that are tailored for people with disabilities and that can be accessed from various portable devices including their phone and/or tablet.

Abstract
This narrative review of the literature assessed whether regular physical exercise and sleep patterns, fasting and autophagy, altogether can be an adequate strategy for achieving healthy longevity and well-being within different stage of life. There are a large number of studies dealing with well-being and healthy longevity; however, few of them have given us a specific formula for how to live long and healthy. Despite all the advances that have been made to create adequate physical exercise programs, sleep patterns or nutritional protocols, the relation between different types of fasting, nutritional supplementation as well as regular physical exercise and sleep patterns have not yet been satisfactorily resolved to cause the best effects of autophagy and, therefore, well-being and healthy longevity. In this way, future studies should clarify more efficiently the relationship between these variables to understand the association between regular physical exercise, sleep patterns, fasting and autophagy for healthy longevity and well-being.

Abstract
The scientific questions we pursue are shaped by our cultural assumptions and biases, often in ways we are unaware. Here, we argue that modern biases against older adults (ageism) have unconsciously led aging biologists to assume that traits of older individuals are negative and those of younger individuals positive. We illustrate this bias with the example of how a medieval Chinese scholar might have approached the task of understanding aging biology. In particular, aging biologists have tended to emphasize functional declines during aging, rather than biological adaptation and population selection or composition processes; the reality is certainly that all these processes interact. Failure to make these distinctions could lead to interventions that improve superficial markers of aging while harming underlying health, particularly as the health priorities of older adults (autonomy, function, freedom from suffering, etc.) are often quite different from the goals of aging biologists (reducing disease, prolonging life). One approach to disentangling positive, negative, and neutral changes is to map trajectories of change across the life course of an individual (physiobiography). We emphasize that our goal is not to criticize our colleagues-we have been guilty too-but rather to help us all improve our science.

Abstract
Dietary restriction (DR), limiting calories or specific nutrients without malnutrition, extends lifespan across diverse taxa. Traditionally, this lifespan extension has been explained as a result of diet-mediated changes in the trade-off between lifespan and reproduction, with survival favored when resources are scarce. However, a recently proposed alternative suggests that the selective benefit of the response to DR is the maintenance of reproduction. This hypothesis predicts that lifespan extension is a side effect of benign laboratory conditions, and DR individuals would be frailer and unable to deal with additional stressors, and thus lifespan extension should disappear under more stressful conditions. We tested this by rearing outbred female fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) on 10 different protein:carbohydrate diets. Flies were either infected with a bacterial pathogen (Pseudomonas entomophila), injured with a sterile pinprick, or unstressed. We monitored lifespan, fecundity, and measures of aging. DR extended lifespan and reduced reproduction irrespective of injury and infection. Infected flies on lower protein diets had particularly poor survival. Exposure to infection and injury did not substantially alter the relationship between diet and aging patterns. These results do not provide support for lifespan extension under DR being a side effect of benign laboratory conditions.

Abstract
Lymphology is evolving in search of a better management of lymphedema patients, both as to the diagnostic pathway and as to the therapeutic options. Similarly, lymphatic system is involved in a wide spectrum of pathophysiologic processes of most chronic degenerative diseases. Translational medicine integrates the interdisciplinary scientific knowledge to improve diagnostic and therapeutic options in the biomedical field. Inflammation and lymphatic function are regarded as the connecting biochemical factors in most diseases. This review focuses on the scientific publications regarding lymphatic system in connection to psycho-neuroendocrine immunology, hormesis, epigenetics and more generally nutrition and lifestyle. The interaction between lymphology and translational medicine may play a relevant role to improve management of lymphedema on the one hand, and of chronic degenerative diseases on the other.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genes in metabolic and nutrient signaling pathways play important roles in lifespan in model organisms and human longevity. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine the relation of a quantitative measure of healthy diet to gene expression in a community-based cohort. METHODS We used the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans Adherence Index (DGAI) score to quantify key dietary recommendations of an overall healthy diet. Our current analyses included 2220 Offspring participants (mean age 66 ± 9 y, 55.4% women) and 2941 Third-Generation participants (mean age 46 ± 9 y, 54.5% women) from the Framingham Heart Study. Gene expression was profiled in blood through the use of the Affymetrix Human Exon 1.0 ST Array. We conducted a transcriptome-wide association study of DGAI adjusting for age, sex, smoking, cell counts, and technical covariates. We also constructed a combined gene score from genes significantly associated with DGAI. RESULTS The DGAI was significantly associated with the expression of 19 genes (false discovery rate <0.05). The most significant gene, ARRDC3, is a member of the arrestin family of proteins, and evidence in animal models and human data suggests that this gene is a regulator of obesity and energy expenditure. The DGAI gene score was associated with body mass index (P = 1.4 × 10-50), fasting glucose concentration (P = 2.5 × 10-11), type 2 diabetes (P = 1.1 × 10-5), and metabolic syndrome (P = 1.8 × 10-32). CONCLUSIONS Healthier diet was associated with genes involved in metabolic function. Further work is needed to replicate our findings and investigate the relation of a healthy diet to altered gene regulation.

Abstract
Individual and societal initiatives in areas of research, education, and health care policy have resulted in unprecedented
gains in life expectancy. It is true that today more people in the world are living longer and have opportunities
for higher quality lives than ever before. However, the resulting rapid rise in number of older adults has
become a source of concern: Experts of many countries, in anticipation of looming problems, such as overburdened
health care and pension systems, are now seeking opportunities to work together to find common solutions
for globally-shared problems. The good news is that while all countries are experiencing change brought on
by aging populations, the rate of change varies substantially from country to country; differences in historical
events have produced differences in demographic profiles. Some countries have relatively large numbers of older
adults, comprising large percentages of their populations; others have fewer older adults, with slower growth in
numbers and percentages of older adults relative to other age groups. These differences have led to variations
for the type and pace of response mounted by individual countries for problems associated with increasingly
large older adult populations. In turn, these variations in response provide opportunities for countries to learn
from one another. This brief review will outline potential issues associated with aging populations and discuss
strengths and challenges for the integration of primary medical care with behavioral health as an innovative,
best practices approach to the provision of care for aging persons of the world.

Abstract
Consuming a Mediterranean diet rich in minimally processed plant foods has been associated with a reduced risk of developing multiple chronic diseases and increased life expectancy. Data from several randomized clinic trials have demonstrated a beneficial effect in the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and breast cancer. The exact mechanism by which an increased adherence to the traditional Mediterranean diet exerts its favorable effects is not known. However, accumulating evidence indicates that the five most important adaptations induced by the Mediterranean dietary pattern are: (a) lipid-lowering effect, (b) protection against oxidative stress, inflammation and platelet aggregation, (c) modification of hormones and growth factors involved in the pathogenesis of cancer, (d) inhibition of nutrient sensing pathways by specific amino acid restriction, and (e) gut microbiota-mediated production of metabolites influencing metabolic health. More studies are needed to understand how single modifications of nutrients typical of the Mediterranean diet interact with energy intake, energy expenditure, and the microbiome in modulating the key mechanisms that promote cellular, tissue, and organ health during aging.
