Abstract
Bortezomib is the first-line standard and most effective chemotherapeutic for multiple myeloma; however, bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy (BIPN) severely affects the chemotherapy regimen and has long-term impact on patients under maintenance therapy. The pathogenesis of BIPN is poorly understood, and basic research and development of BIPN management drugs are in early stages. Besides chemotherapy dose reduction and regimen modification, no recommended prevention and treatment approaches are available for BIPN apart from the International Myeloma Working Group guidelines for peripheral neuropathy in myeloma. An in-depth exploration of the pathogenesis of BIPN, development of additional therapeutic approaches, and identification of risk factors are needed. Optimizing effective and standardized BIPN treatment plans and providing more decision-making evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment of BIPN are necessary. This article reviews the recent advances in BIPN research; provides an overview of clinical features, underlying molecular mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches; and highlights areas for future studies.

Abstract
Background Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a prevalent complication of multiple myeloma (MM), due to the disease itself or its treatment. Despite extensive research, the optimal treatment for multiple myeloma peripheral neuropathy (MMPN) remains unclear. Clinical practice has shown the potential efficacy of acupuncture in managing MMPN. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the literature to assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture as a treatment for MMPN. Methods The PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were comprehensively searched from inception to November 1, 2023 to identify relevant studies pertaining to the use of acupuncture to treat MMPN. Results A total of five studies, encompassing 97 patients diagnosed with drug-related PN, were ultimately included in this analysis. The literature lacks any reports pertaining to the utilization of acupuncture for disease-related PN. ST36, LI4, SP6, and EX-LE-10 were found to be the most frequently chosen acupoints. Following acupuncture treatment, there was a consistent reduction in scores on the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neuropathic Pain Scale (NPS), Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form (BPI-SF), and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-Ntx) among MMPN patients. The results of Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) tests yielded conflicting results. No severe adverse effects were reported. Conclusion The use of acupuncture for disease-related PN has not been studied to date. Acupuncture is safe for drug-related PN and is helpful for relieving pain. But uncertainty exists regarding the efficacy of this approach because there is substantial heterogeneity with respect to acupuncture treatment regimens, and more high-quality studies on this topic are warranted.

Abstract
Acupuncture is a traditional medicinal practice in China that has been increasingly recognized in other countries in recent decades. Notably, several reports have demonstrated that acupuncture can effectively aid in pain management. However, the analgesic mechanisms through which acupuncture provides such benefits remain poorly understood. Purinergic signaling, which is mediated by purine nucleotides and purinergic receptors, has been proposed to play a central role in acupuncture analgesia. On the one hand, acupuncture affects the transmission of nociception by increasing adenosine triphosphate dephosphorylation and thereby decreasing downstream P2X3, P2X4, and P2X7 receptors signaling activity, regulating the levels of inflammatory factors, neurotrophic factors, and synapsin I. On the other hand, acupuncture exerts analgesic effects by promoting the production of adenosine, enhancing the expression of downstream adenosine A1 and A2A receptors, and regulating downstream inflammatory factors or synaptic plasticity. Together, this systematic overview of the field provides a sound, evidence-based foundation for future research focused on the application of acupuncture as a means of relieving pain.

Abstract
Multiple Myeloma (MM) is the second most prevalent hematologic malignancy, and its incidence has been increasing enormously in recent years. The prognosis of MM has changed radically with the introduction of new drugs that have improved life expectancy; recurrences are a common occurrence during the course of the disease and are characterized by an increase in refractory to treatment. Moreover, MM patients are challenged by quality of life-related concerns while limited conventional therapy may be offered. This includes bone pain and dialysis due to the complications of acute renal failure. We, therefore, believe that it is very important to add new treatment modalities, including supplements, nutritional modifications, acupuncture, and mind-body therapies, with the goal of improving treatment tolerance, effectiveness, and patients' quality of life. Moreover, many patients use some of these supplements on their own, in the hope of reducing the side effects, so it is even more important to know their action and potential. The purpose of this review is to illustrate all these strategies potentially available to enrich our approach to this, to date, incurable disease.

Abstract
Objective Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is one of the major toxicities in multiple myeloma patients, often resulting in dose reductions or treatment interruptions. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is a safe non-invasive neuromodulation therapy with potential benefits for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in multiple myeloma patients. Materials and methods We screened 30 multiple myeloma patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy who underwent repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment in this study. Prior to and following repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment, patients were assessed with nerve conduction velocity, visual analog scale and the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-CIPN 20-item scale (EORTC QLQ-CIPN20). Categorical and continuous variables were analyzed using Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney U test respectively. A p-value < 0.05 (2-tailed) was considered statistically significant. Results Following repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment, 24/30 (80.0%) patients reported a reduction in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Meanwhile, all 15 patients with grade 2 chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy experienced improvements about themselves, compared to 8/10 patient with grade 3 chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and 1/5 with grade 4 chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Visual analog scale scores decreased after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment (5.40 ± 1.94 vs 3.10 ± 1.60, p < 0.001). We also observed enhancements in both motor conduction velocity and sensory conduction velocity of patients in bilateral median nerves, posterior tibial nerves, common ulnar nerves and peroneal nerves following repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment. Analysis of the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-CIPN 20-item scale data (17.68 ± 8.14 vs 10.50 ± 9.55, p < 0.001) revealed significant reductions in scores. Patients with grade 2-3 (n = 25) exhibited a mean reduction of 8.89 ± 4.24 points, while those with grade 4 (n = 5) showed a difference value of 3.54 ± 3.45, p < 0.001. No adverse events were observed. Conclusion Our findings suggest that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is a safe and effective therapeutic approach for ameliorating peripheral nerve injury and alleviating the chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy symptoms in multiple myeloma patients. Early initiation of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment may yield more favorable outcomes for these patients.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To describe the main acupuncture techniques and parameters that have been used in the most varied symptoms of different types of cancer. BACKGROUND Clinical evidence about the potential effectiveness of acupuncture and related therapies to control signs and symptoms associated with cancer or its treatment has been in several studies. Currently, there is already evidence of the use of acupuncture for the treatment of nausea and vomiting, fatigue, dry mouth, anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain. However, many studies lack firm rights or reproducible guidelines for treatment. DESIGN This study performs a systematic review of clinical trials related to the topic, based on the PRISMA protocol. Thus, a search was carried out in the Scopus, Pubmed and Web of Science databases, covering studies since January 2007. METHODS Structured and organised according to PICO standards, using keywords ("cancer" OR "malignant tumour" OR "chemotherapy" OR "radiotherapy") AND ("acupuncture" OR "electroacupuncture") AND ("pain" OR "nausea" OR "vomit" OR "fatigue" OR "xerostomia" OR "insomnia" OR "depression" OR "neuropathy"). RESULTS After the selection and evaluation phase, 23 studies were included and analysed. CONCLUSION Based on this analysis, it is concluded that acupuncture is safe and there is evidence of the reduction of gastrointestinal symptoms, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, pain, dry mouth, fatigue, insomnia, and improvement of cognitive capacity. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Acupuncture treatments could act by minimising the side effects of conventional treatments and reducing symptoms induced by tumours. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION The patients had no direct involvement with the study in question.

Abstract
The incidence of multiple myeloma (MM) is increasing year by year, requiring chemotherapy drugs to control the condition. With the advent of new proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulators, and monoclonal antibodies, the prognosis of patients has improved significantly. However, peripheral neuropathy caused by drugs limits the dose and duration of treatment, which seriously affects patients' quality of life and treatment outcome. Although the neuropathies induced by chemotherapy drugs have attracted much attention, their mechanism and effective prevention and treatment measures are not clear. Therefore, how to alleviate peripheral neuropathy caused by drugs for treatment of MM is a key issue in improving patients' quality of life and prolonging their survival time, which have some clinical value. In this paper, we review the current research on the pathogenesis, pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment, and prevention, which expects to present instruction for peripheral neuropathy after treatment of MM.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study investigated the efficacy of acupuncture in preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS This single center, randomized, controlled, single-blind clinical trial randomly assigned patients with stage 3 CRC attending outpatient clinics in China Medical University Hospital to either verum or sham acupuncture treatment concurrently with chemotherapy. Primary outcomes were nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and touch thresholds of limb terminals. Secondary outcomes were total and subdomain scores on the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), and scores on the FACT/GOG-Ntx subscale and the Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form (BPI-SF), at baseline, weeks 12, 36, and follow-up (week 48). RESULTS Thirty-two patients met the inclusion criteria and received verum acupuncture (N = 16) or sham acupuncture (N = 16). Under the -intent-to-treat principle, 26 participants were analyzed. Significant changes from baseline for questionnaire scores and sensory NCV were observed in both study groups. Sham acupuncture was associated with significant reductions from baseline in motor NCV and sensory touch thresholds; no such changes were observed with verum acupuncture. No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSION Prophylactic acupuncture may exert neuroprotective effects on mechanical or tactile touch thresholds during chemotherapy regimens in patients with CRC, with evidence of this protectiveness persisting at 6 months' follow-up. The lack of change in motor NCV values with verum acupuncture indicates neuroprotective effects. Sensory NCV values and patient-reported outcomes did not differ significantly between the study groups.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Patients diagnosed with neuropathic pain experience continuous or intermittent spontaneous pain throughout their lives. Pharmacological treatments often provide limited relief; therefore, a multidisciplinary approach should be utilized to manage neuropathic pain. This review examines the current literature on integrative health modalities (anti-inflammatory diets, functional movement, acupuncture, meditation, and transcutaneous therapy) for treating patients with neuropathic pain. RECENT FINDINGS The use of an anti-inflammatory diet, functional movement, acupuncture, meditation, and transcutaneous therapy in treating neuropathic pain has been investigated in prior literature with positive outcomes. However, there remains a large void in evidence-based knowledge and clinical applicability for these interventions. Overall, integrative health offers a cost-efficient and harmless way of creating a multidisciplinary approach to managing neuropathic pain. There are many complementary approaches to treating neuropathic pain as part of an integrative medicine approach. Research is needed to explore other herbs and spices not yet reported in the peer-review literature. Additionally, follow-on research is needed to understand the clinical applicability of the proposed interventions as well as the dose and timing of the interventions to predict response and duration.

Abstract
Neuropathic pain, caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory system, is common and distressing. In view of the high human and economic burden, more effective treatment strategies were urgently needed. Acupuncture has been increasingly used as an adjuvant or complementary therapy for neuropathic pain. Although the therapeutic effects of acupuncture have been demonstrated in various high-quality randomized controlled trials, there is significant heterogeneity in the underlying mechanisms. This review aimed to summarize the potential mechanisms of acupuncture on neuropathic pain based on the somatosensory system, and guided for future both foundational and clinical studies. Here, we argued that acupuncture may have the potential to inhibit neuronal activity caused by neuropathic pain, through reducing the activation of pain-related ion channels and suppressing glial cells (including microglia and astrocytes) to release inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, amongst others. Meanwhile, acupuncture as a non-pharmacologic treatment, may have potential to activate descending pain control system via increasing the level of spinal or brain 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), and opioid peptides. And the types of endogenously opioid peptides was influenced by electroacupuncture-frequency. The cumulative evidence demonstrated that acupuncture provided an alternative or adjunctive therapy for neuropathic pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus. The main clinical manifestations of DPN include pain, numbness, paraesthesia, and weakness of the lower limbs which often leads to diabetic foot ulceration, eventually resulting in amputation. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, moxibustion has a great effect on treating and preventing DPN. However, randomized clinical trials done to evaluate the efficacy of this treatment are still lacking. Hence, this study is carried out to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion therapy on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. METHODS This study will be a pilot, interventional, randomized, 2-armed, parallel, singled-masked, controlled trial. A total of 40 diabetes mellitus patients with peripheral neuropathy will be recruited and assigned randomly into 2 groups (moxibustion group and waiting group) at a 1:1 ratio. This trial consists of an 8-week intervention period and a 4-week follow-up period. During the intervention period, the moxibustion group will take 3 moxibustion sessions per week, whereas no intervention will be done on the waiting group to act as the control group. The outcome will be assessed by an outcome assessor who is unaware of the group assignment. The primary outcome will be pain assessment measured with algometry, Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs pain scale, visual analogue scale, and neuropathy pain scale. The secondary outcome will be an evaluation of functional performance capacity with 6 minutes walking test, evaluation of the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure, and serum HbA1c and albumin levels. DISCUSSION We hope that this trial will provide valuable insights on the efficacy of moxibustion in the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the role of SIRT3 and inflammatory factors in bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy (PN). This prospective observational cohort study included a total of 159 patients of multiple myeloma patients during June 2016 to June 2019. All patients received the strategy of bortezomib and dexamethasone and were further divided into the PN group and the non-PN group. Serum SIRT3, CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). During the study period, 76 (47.8%) patients developed PN. The inflammatory factors all gradually decreased and SIRT3 levels were gradually increased after treatment by bortezomib combined with dexamethasone compared with the baseline. The levels of all inflammatory factors were markedly higher, while SIRT3 levels were lower in PN patients compared with the non-PN patients at the same time point after treatment. In PN grade III patients, the serum levels of CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α were significantly higher, while serum levels of SIRT3 were markedly lower than the grade I-II patients. SIRT3 was negatively correlated with CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α. After nursing treatment and reduction of bortezomib dose, the levels of SIRT3 significantly increased, while levels of inflammatory decreased in PN patients with grade III. SIRT3 and inflammatory factors showed the potential for diagnosis of bortezomib-induced PN. Besides, SIRT3, IL-6 and TNF-α were the independent risk factors for MM patients developing PN after treatment of bortezomib. Higher inflammatory factors and lower SIRT3 might be associated with the development of bortezomib-induced PN in multiple myeloma patients, which might be reversed by decreased bortezomib dose and proper nursing treatment.

Supportive care in multiple myeloma (MM) can have a major impact on quality of life and the survival outcomes of MM patients. In this review, we will focus on disease and treatment related toxicities experienced by MM patients and what are the best approaches to date to help mitigate the effects. We will specifically focus on a practical approach to managing bone disease, thrombosis, infection risk, peripheral neuropathy, dermatologic complications, gastrointestinal and ocular toxicities, and fatigue in MM.

Abstract
Simple Summary Multiple myeloma (MM) patients with relapsing and/or refractory (RR) disease are exposed for a prolonged time to multiple drugs, which increase the risk of toxicity. In addition to tumor response, preserving the quality of life represents an important goal for this patient population. Therefore, supportive therapy plays a pivotal role in their treatment by limiting disease- and drug-related complications. The aim of this review is to outline current standards and future strategies to prevent and treat renal insufficiency, anemia, bone disease, and infection, including COVID-19, in RRMM patients. In addition, the incidence and treatment of side effects of novel anti-MM agents will be discussed. Abstract Relapsed/refractory (RR) multiple myeloma (MM) patients are a fragile population because of prolonged drug exposure and advanced age. Preserving a good quality of life is of high priority for these patients and the treatment of disease- and treatment-related complications plays a key role in their management. By preventing and limiting MM-induced complications, supportive care improves patients’ outcome. Erythropoietin-stimulating agents and bisphosphonates are well-established supportive strategies, yet novel agents are under investigation, such as anabolic bone agents and activin receptor-like kinase (ALK) inhibitors. The recent dramatic changes in the treatment landscape of MM pose an additional challenge for the routine care of RRMM patients. Multidrug combinations in first and later lines increase the risk for long-lasting toxicities, including adverse cardiovascular and neurological events. Moreover, recently approved first-in-class drugs have unique side-effect profiles, such as ocular toxicity of belantamab mafodotin or gastrointestinal toxicity of selinexor. This review discusses current standards in supportive treatment of RRMM patients, including recommendations in light of the recent SARS-CoV-19 pandemic, and critically looks at the incidence and management of side effects of standard as well as next generation anti-MM agents.

Abstract
Purpose: Acupuncture has been used for managing cancer-related symptoms. However, there are still few studies concerning the overall trends in acupuncture therapy on cancer based on bibliometric analysis. This study aims to demonstrate the current status and trends in this field over the past 2 decades. Methods: Articles were retrieved from the Web of Science from 2000 to 2019. CiteSpace was used for co-authorship network of countries/institutions, dual-map analysis, and detecting the keywords with citation bursts. VOSviewer was used to construct networks based on co-authorship and co-citation analysis of authors, and co-occurrence of keywords. Results: A total of 927 articles and reviews were included in the final analysis. The number of publications has steadily increased with some fluctuations among years. The country and institution contributing most to this field are the USA and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Mao JJ was the most productive author and Molassiotis A ranked first in the cited authors. The co-occurrence analysis revealed 5 clusters (including “clinical trials,” “clinical studies on chemotherapy/radiation-induced symptoms,” “CAM therapy for cancer,” “clinical studies on vasomotor symptoms,” and “systematic reviews”). Most recent keyword bursts were “neuropathic pain,” “arthralgia,” “prevention,” “supportive care,” and “integrative medicine”. Conclusions: The annual publication output would increase rapidly in the next decade, which shows a promising future in this research field. Future research hotspots would focus on the role of acupuncture in neuropathic pain, arthralgia, prevention, supportive care, and integrative medicine.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pain related to cancer, despite the numerous treatment options available, is still a challenge in contemporary pain medicine. The unsatisfactory treatment of cancer pain is one of the main reasons why patients seek complementary and alternative methods (CAM) and a more integrative/holistic approach to pain management. The popularity of CAM forces healthcare professionals to provide patients with current and evidence-based information on the effectiveness and safety of CAM. The aim of the paper is to present current evidence and limitations regarding CAM commonly used in the pain management of cancer patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS The paper comprehensively reviews the current and most relevant literature considering the integrative approach to management of pain due to cancer disease and/or cancer treatment. RESULTS The available data from clinical trials, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews supports the effectiveness of acupuncture, massage, physical exercises, music therapy, and mind-body therapies as adjunct therapies for alleviating pain in cancer patients, although the supporting evidence is weak or moderate. CONCLUSIONS Based on the available knowledge, physicians should be capable of advising the cancer patient as to which CAM methods can be used safely, which are contraindicated, and what therapeutic effects they may expect, especially when standard pain treatment fails or induces serious side effects. An integrative approach to cancer pain management may improve the quality of pain treatment, patients' quality of life, and satisfaction with pain relief.

Abstract
Paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN) is a common and intractable side effect of the conventional chemotherapeutic agent paclitaxel. Acupuncture has been reported as an effective alternative therapy in treatment of PIPN in both basic studies and clinical trials. However, there is a lack of comprehensive surveys to summarize the action of acupuncture in management of PIPN. In this review, we briefly demonstrate the basic pathology of PIPN, which includes the activation of ion channels, mitochondrial dysfunction, disruption of axonal transport and also neuro-inflammatory involvement. Meanwhile, we review both the clinical and basic studies as an emphasis to give a general overview of the therapeutic effect of acupuncture against PIPN. Finally, we summarize the current known mechanisms underlying the action of acupuncture against PIPN mainly at peripheral and spinal levels, which include various neurotransmitters, multiple receptors, different types of enzymes and molecules. In conclusion, acupuncture could be considered as a potential alternative therapy in treatment of PIPN, and further clinical and experimental studies are called for in the future.

Abstract
The purpose of this integrative review of the literature is to synthesize the current evidence and identify gaps in knowledge regarding the effectiveness of acupuncture to treat chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Review databases were searched using inclusion criteria: keywords acupuncture, cancer, and peripheral neuropathy, published in English, between 2009 and 2019. Sixteen articles met the inclusion criteria. The literature indicates that acupuncture is generally well tolerated by patients with cancer, and a majority of patients with CIPN reported decreased pain and increased quality of life after receiving acupuncture treatment. A comprehensive understanding of the ability of acupuncture to treat CIPN is limited by variability of acupuncture techniques and inconsistency in measures of evaluation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the impacts of electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation at "Zusanli and Kunlun Points" on spinal dorsal horn microglia activation in L5 spinal nerve ligation (SNL) rats and BNDF, P2 × 4 and GABAAγ2, and the changes in spinal dorsal horn synaptic plasticity in model rats. METHODS Adult male SD rats (180-220 g) were selected and randomly divided into 6 groups, including the sham group, the SNL group, the SNL + EA group, the SNL+5-BDBD group, the SNL + EA + 5-BDBD group and the SNL + FEA group. The changes in the Iba-1, BDNF, P2 × 4 and GABAAγ2 in the spinal cord of rats were observed by Western blotting, immunofluorescence, RT-PCR and other techniques; the long-term changes in the potential after the excitatory synapse of the spinal dorsal horn in rats were observed by in vivo electrophysiological technique. RESULTS After 7 days of intervention, the fluorescence intensity (FI) of P2 × 4 and Iba-1 in the SNL + EA group was lower than that in the SNL group and higher than that in the sham group(P < 0.01), but the FI of GABAAγ2 was higher than that in the SNL group(P < 0.01); the expression of Iba-1, BDNF and P2 × 4 proteins in the SNL + EA group, the SNL+5-BDBD group and the SNL + EA + 5-BDBD group was significantly lower than that in the SNL + FEA group(P < 0.05), but the expression of GABAAγ2 protein was higher (P < 0.05); after treatment with EA, the expression levels of Iba-1 mRNA and P2 × 4 mRNA in the SNL + EA group were lower than those in the SNL group(P < 0.01), but the expression levels of GABAAγ2 mRNA were higher (P < 0.01). Meanwhile, long-term potentiation changes could not be induced in the SNL + EA group. CONCLUSION The EA stimulation at "Zusanli" and "Kunlun" points can improve the pain threshold of rats with neuropathic pain (NP), inhibit the excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP), and weaken the excitatory transmission efficiency between synapses during NP.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common cause of pain and poor quality of life for those undergoing treatment for cancer and those surviving cancer. Many advances have been made in the pre-clinical science; despite this, these findings have not been translated into novel preventative measures and treatments for CIPN. This review aims to give an update on the pre-clinical science, preventative measures, assessment and treatment of CIPN.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common complication of cancer treatment, with conventional treatment limited in its ability for prevention or treatment of symptoms. This review addresses the research assessing the effectiveness and safety of complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) in preventing and treating CIPN-related symptoms. RECENT FINDINGS The CIM modalities acupuncture, classical massage, omega-3 fatty acids, and the Japanese Kampo medicine Goshanjishen may be of benefit in preventing or treating CIPN. Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), glutamine/glutamate, alpha-lipoic acid, and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) are not, with ALCAR increasing symptom severity and vitamin E the risk for developing prostate cancer. CIM therapies with a potential for preventing or treating CIPN-related symptoms should be further investigated. CIM is considered safe when provided within an integrative oncology setting, under the guidance and supervision of an integrative physician.

Abstract
Most patients with multiple myeloma (MM) suffer from chronic pain at every stage of the natural disease process. This review focuses on the most common causes of chronic pain in MM patients: (1) pain from myeloma bone disease (MBD); (2) chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy as a possible consequence of proteasome inhibitor therapy (i.e., bortezomib-induced); (3) post-herpetic neuralgia as a possible complication of varicella zoster virus reactivation because of post-transplantation immunodepression; and (4) pain in cancer survivors, with increasing numbers due to the success of antiblastic treatments, which have significantly improved overall survival and quality of life. In this review, non-pain specialists will find an overview including a detailed description of physiopathological mechanisms underlying central sensitization and pain chronification in bone pain, the rationale for the correct use of analgesics and invasive techniques in different pain syndromes, and the most recent recommendations published on these topics. The ultimate target of this review was to underlie that different types of pain can be observed in MM patients, and highlight that only after an accurate pain assessment, clinical examination, and pain classification, can pain be safely and effectively addressed by selecting the right analgesic option for the right patient.
