Abstract
Objectives This study aims to evaluate the effect of osteoporosis education on osteoporosis knowledge level (OKL) and behavioral changes in daily life in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Patients and methods Between May 2019 and December 2019, a total of 54 patients (34 males, 20 females; median age: 68.5 years; range, 50 to 87 years) were included in the study. We randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio, patients with PD to receive either only the brochure or in addition to this a verbal osteoporosis education. The patients were randomized into the control (n=27) and intervention groups (n=27). Seven of the patients (two in the control group and five in the intervention group) were lost to follow-up. The patients were assessed at baseline and Week 12. The primary outcomes were Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) score (0-400) and daily calcium intake (DCI). The secondary outcomes were revised 2011 osteoporosis knowledge test (rOKT) score (0-32), frequency of falls, smoking and alcohol use at Week 12. Results The median total PASE score was 81 (range, 0 to 205) for the intervention group, compared to 61 (range, 0 to 242) for control group at Week 12. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups at Week 12, except for the medians of the frequency of falls that was significantly lower in the intervention group (p<0.05). A significant improvement from baseline was observed in the median rOKT scores (control group 16 (range, 6 to 21) to 19 (range, 11 to 25); intervention group 13 (range, 6 to 24) to 18 (range, 9 to 24); p<0.001) and DCI (control group 855 (range, 420 to 1,640) to 890 (range, 550 to 1,660); intervention group, 870 (range, 400 to 1,385) to 1,020 (range, 400 to 1,940) mg/day; p<0.01) in both groups. Also, a significant improvement in the leisure activities (PASE subgroup) was observed in the intervention group (p<0.05). Conclusion Osteoporosis education had some positive effects in patients with PD, even when only given the brochure. With additional verbal education, more benefits can be obtained.

Abstract
Calcium is an essential skeletal mineral, and calcium deficiency has a negative impact on bone health. We conducted an online questionnaire to assess the intake and knowledge among the Saudi population. The survey included 950 participants, with 51.1% demonstrating poor knowledge of calcium sources and a mean intake lower than the recommended level. INTRODUCTION Calcium is an essential mineral and one of the most prevalent in the body. Chronic insufficient calcium intake increases the risk of osteopenia, osteoporosis, and bone fracture. PURPOSE This study aimed to assess the Saudi population's calcium intake and knowledge of calcium sources as well as to identify factors associated with inadequate calcium intake. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted across Saudi Arabia using an online questionnaire distributed randomly through social media channels. The questionnaire was a validated tool that was previously developed and used by the original author to assess knowledge of calcium food sources and estimate calcium intake in the Saudi population. If an individual answered more than 11 questions correctly, calcium knowledge was considered adequate. Calcium intake was considered sufficient or insufficient based on the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of 1000 mg/day. RESULTS The survey included male and female Saudi citizens and residents aged 14 years or older. A total of 950 respondents aged 9-70 completed the questionnaire. A total of 62.9% of the respondents were 26-50 years old. Of the participants, 64.2% were female, 71.7% were married, and 61.9% had a diploma or a bachelor's degree. Of these, 63.8% were from the central region, and 97.6% were from Saudi Arabia. For those aged 9-18, the average calcium consumption was 577 mg/day, whereas it was 479 mg/day for those aged 19-50. The average intake was 479 mg/day for males aged 51-70 (EAR = 1000 mg/day) and 438 mg/day for females (EAR = 1200 mg/day). These calcium consumption values were significantly lower than the estimated average requirement (EAR) and RDA (p < 0.01). Correct response rates for the 19 calcium intake knowledge items ranged from 23.4 to 94.7%. Among the participants, 48.9% had significant calcium intake knowledge, as indicated by a score of > 11 out of 19 correct responses. Age, sex, marital status, educational attainment, and residence were significantly correlated with adequate knowledge of calcium. Demographic characteristics such as age, marital status, and residence were associated with sufficient calcium intake in the study. CONCLUSION The study findings revealed that a significant proportion (51.1%) of participants demonstrated inadequate knowledge regarding calcium food sources. Additionally, the mean calcium intake was found to be lower than the RDA of 1300 mg/day for males and females 14-18 years old and 1000 mg/day for males and females 19-50 years old and males 51-70 years old; however, the RDA for females 51-70 years old is 1200 mg/day, suggesting an urgent need for interventions aimed at enhancing both calcium knowledge and intake.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several public interventions have been designed in recent years to urge the intake of vitamin D supplements among the senior population to avoid the direct and indirect consequences associated with vitamin D deficiency. However, the effectiveness of these public campaigns remains quite limited. In an online survey, the current study investigates attitudes towards vitamin D supplements intake and associated behaviours in a representative sample of Danish senior citizens (N = 554) - that is, individuals aged 55 years and above. RESULTS Approximately half of the sample reported taking vitamin D supplements in the preceding year. Furthermore, being male and having a positive perception of individuals' own health status increased the probability of being a non-user. Increasing confidence in the information provided by health authorities (such as medical doctors and pharmacies) is particularly critical for enhancing the likelihood of non-users to purchase vitamin D supplements. However, also encouraging the uptake of vitamin D supplements in specialized supermarkets with stands and promotions seems an appealing and practical solution to increase seniors' uptake of vitamin D supplements. CONCLUSIONS The present study outlines the characteristics of senior Danish non-users of vitamin D supplements. Additionally, the research provides information on the strategies that could be applied by public organizations to foster vitamin D supplements intake among this target segment of the population. © 2023 The Authors. Abstract
This study was initiated in 2022 in Miyaki Town, Saga Prefecture, Japan, to determine the impact of an intervention that combined brain and physical function training and health education in older residents. Miyaki has a population of approximately 26,000, 35% of whom are considered to be aging. A 14-week program consisting of strength training, brain function training, and health lectures was conducted with 34 older residents of the community. Body composition, motor function, brain function, and various blood tests were evaluated before and after the intervention. Brain function was assessed using the Trail Making Test-A. Physical function was assessed by Open-Close Stepping, Functional Reach Test, Open-Leg Standing Time, and Two-Step Test. The intervention group showed significant improvements in brain function (p< 0.0001), physical function (p = 0.0037), body composition (p = 0.0053), and LDL-C (p = 0.017). This study provides substantial evidence that community-based combined programs can be beneficial for older adults.

Abstract
In a population of 1156 men aged ≥ 60 years, opioid drug use was reported by 4.1% (n = 47) of participants. Among opioids, opium was the most prevalent consuming drug (83%). Adjusting for potential confounders, opioid consumption showed a positive association with osteoporosis. PURPOSE Limited evidence suggest a relationship between opioid consumption and osteoporosis. This study aims to investigate the possible association of osteoporosis and drug use among older adult men of Bushehr, Iran. METHODS In this study, 1156 men aged ≥ 60 years of Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) were included. Bone density and trabecular bone score (TBS) were measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Total osteoporosis was noted based on osteoporosis at either site of the lumbar spine, femoral neck, and total hip densitometry. Drug use was defined as a self-reported current use of opioid drugs, either regular (daily) use or irregular consumption. Multivariable modified Poisson regression analysis was used for investigating the association of opioids and osteoporosis, reporting the adjusted prevalence ratio (APR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). The association between drug use and TBS was evaluated using a linear regression model. RESULTS Opioid drug use was reported by 4.1% (n = 47) of participants. Among drug users, opium was the most prevalent consuming drug (83%). In all, 38.3% of drug users and 22.4% of non-users had osteoporosis (p-value = 0.011). Multivariable analysis showed that adjusting by age, education, smoking, alcohol consumption, body mass index, diabetes, and physical activity, a positive and significant association was detected between opioid drug use and the likelihood of osteoporosis (APR: 1.46, 95%CI: 1.02-2.10). Considering the potential confounders, the results also showed a negative association between drug consumption and TBS (β: - 0.027, 95%CI: - 0.053, - 0.001). CONCLUSION Opioid drug use has a positive association with osteoporosis in elderly men, independent of other conventional risk factors. Elderly drug users might be at a higher risk for osteoporotic fractures, given the effect of substance use on cognition. So, osteoporosis among drug users would be of importance, especially in countries where opium consumption is prevalent.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We aimed to evaluate osteoporosis awareness and risk of osteoporosis in individuals by using the One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test and Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians score. METHODOLOGY This descriptive cross-sectional study included 591 volunteers who were admitted to the Internal Medicine outpatient clinic of the University Hospital. The One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test was applied through face-to-face interviews. Participants were classified as low, medium, and high osteoporosis risk groups in terms of the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians scores. RESULTS Median score of the One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test was 1 (0-2) and the mean score of the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians was 4.61 ± 3.80. In terms of the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians score, 0.7% (n = 4) of the participants have a high risk of osteoporosis, 5.4% (n = 32) have a medium risk of osteoporosis and 93.9% (n = 555) have a low risk of osteoporosis. One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test scores of participants in terms of the osteoporosis risk levels were not significantly different (p = 0.432). The proportion of having information about osteoporosis in men was significantly lower than in women (21.0% vs. 33.4%, p = 0.004). The proportion of obtained information from medical staff was significantly higher in women than men (86.9% vs. 66.7%, p = 0.005). Informed participants have a significantly higher One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test score than non-informed participants (p = 0.004). RESULTS The risk of osteoporosis was found to be low in individuals admitted to the university hospital. The Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians score was more effective in determining the osteoporosis risk level compared to the One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test. Men should be given as much importance as women in informing about osteoporosis. Media tools should be used more effectively for this purpose.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The effectiveness of home-based resistance exercise in elder participants with osteoporosis remains unclear. This study demonstrates the beneficial effects of this mode of exercise on improving physical function, increasing confidence in exercise, and reducing fear of falling. INTRODUCTION This study aims to evaluate the effect of a home-based resistance exercise (HBRE) program versus control on physical function, exercise self-efficacy, falling efficacy, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). METHODS This randomized controlled trial included 72 elderly participants with osteoporosis. Participants in the intervention group received a 12-week HBRE program, and the control group received usual care. The primary outcome was physical function, including muscle strength and balance ability; secondary outcomes were exercise self-efficacy, falling efficacy, and HRQOL. Within-group and between-group changes in outcome were evaluated by t-test and rank-sum test. RESULTS A total of 68 subjects were included in the final analysis. Improvement in physical function was significantly greater in the HBRE group compared with controls. On a psychological level, exercise self-efficacy and falling efficacy improved significantly in the HBRE group; no significant change was observed in the control group. Most of the dimensions of HRQOL demonstrated improvements as well. The adherence was 85.29%, with no adverse events related to the exercise. CONCLUSION A 12-week HBRE program was safe non-pharmacological therapy for elderly participants with osteoporosis, improving physical function, exercise self-efficacy, reduced fear of falling, and improved HRQOL. Abstract
Background: Osteoporosis is an emerging geriatric condition with high morbidity and healthcare cost in developing nations experiencing rapid population ageing. Thus, identifying strategies to prevent osteoporosis is critical in safeguarding skeletal health. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a bone health screening and education programme on knowledge, beliefs, and practice regarding osteoporosis among Malaysians aged 40 years and above. Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted from April 2018 to August 2019. During the first phase of the study, 400 Malaysians (190 men, 210 women) aged ≥ 40 years were recruited in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Information on subjects’ demography, medical history, knowledge, and beliefs regarding osteoporosis, physical activity status, and dietary and lifestyle practices were obtained. Subjects also underwent body anthropometry measurement and bone mineral density scan (hip and lumbar spine) using a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry device. Six months after the first screening, similar investigations were carried out on the subjects. Results: During the follow-up session, 72 subjects were lost to follow up. Most of them were younger subjects with a lower awareness of healthy practices. A significant increase in knowledge, beliefs (p < 0.05), calcium supplement intake (p < 0.001), and dietary calcium intake (p = 0.036) and a reduction in coffee intake (p < 0.001) were found among subjects who attended the follow-up. In this study, the percentage of successful referrals was 41.86%. Subjects with osteoporosis were mostly prescribed alendronate plus vitamin D3 by medical doctors, and they followed the prescribed treatment accordingly. Conclusions: The bone health screening and education programmes in this study are effective in changing knowledge, beliefs, and practice regarding osteoporosis. The information is pertinent to policymakers in planning strategies to prevent osteoporosis and its associated problems among the middle-aged and elderly population in Malaysia. Nevertheless, a more comprehensive bone health education program that includes long-term monitoring and consultation is needed to halt the progression of bone loss.

Implementing and Evaluating the Impact of BoneRx: A Healthy Bone Prescription for Men with Prostate Cancer Initiating Androgen Deprivation Therapy. J Clin Med 2022; 11:jcm11102703. Abstract
Background: The initiation of Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) results in rapid and profound hypogonadism, resulting in significant bone and muscle loss, increasing the risk for osteoporosis (OP), falls, and fractures. Despite this, there exist very low rates of guideline adherent care regarding bone health in this population. We developed and implemented a healthy bone prescription tool entitled BoneRx to facilitate the uptake of guideline-concordant bone health care into practice and increase patient awareness and promote the uptake of health bone behaviours (HBBs). Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional pre-BoneRx implementation (n = 143) vs. post-implementation (n = 149) cohort study to evaluate the impact on (i) bone health care, patient engagement in HBB, and patient knowledge and health beliefs regarding OP. Results: There was a significant difference pre- vs. post BoneRx implementation on receipt of baseline BMD (34.7% vs. 59.5%, p < 0.0001) and bone health counselling (32.4% vs. 59.9%, p < 0.0001). More participants in the post-BoneRx implementation cohort reported taking vitamin D supplements 57% vs. 81% (p < 0.001) and calcium supplements 39% vs. 61% (p < 0.001). Physical activity levels also significantly increased (p = 0.021). No differences were detected in OP knowledge or feelings of OP susceptibility, seriousness, or health motivation. Conclusion: BoneRx is a simple, cost-effective, and acceptable strategy that could improve the care of PCa survivors receiving ADT.

Abstract
Lifelong efforts to maintain bone health are beneficial for preventing osteoporosis, and public health professionals play an important role in that. The current study aimed to assess the knowledge of osteoporosis among public health professionals in a Japanese municipal office and explored associated factors. A questionnaire was distributed to 124 eligible public health professionals in a municipal office in S City, Japan; in total, 89 individuals who returned it were analyzed. Their knowledge of osteoporosis was assessed using the revised Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, its two subscales, and the Facts on Osteoporosis Quiz, translated into Japanese. To compare the level of knowledge between categories of selected factors, the Wilcoxon rank-sum test or the Kruskal–Wallis test was applied. The mean of correct answers ranged from 70 to 79%, depending on the scale. The knowledge level was significantly higher among registered dietitians than among public health nurses. Higher scores were significantly associated with past learning experience in off-the-job training, with having a family history of osteoporosis, and with having had a past osteoporosis test. Japanese public health professionals were likely to have moderate knowledge of osteoporosis. Several factors were implied to be associated with the knowledge level of osteoporosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteoporosis is mainly characterized by a low bone mineral density and a sharp architectural and biomechanical deterioration in bone tissue required to maintain bone homeostasis. The theory of planned behavior (TPB) can be considered as one of the leading theories when designing an evidence-based intervention. This study was carried out based on the TPB to determine the effect of an educational intervention aimed at mothers on the prevention of osteoporosis in female students. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of seventy mothers of lower secondary school students in Tehran, Iran, participated in this experimental study which was conducted in 2019-2020. The participants were randomly assigned to two groups, namely experimental and control groups. Based on the TPB, a demographic and a researcher-made questionnaire consisting of five sections were used in order to collect data. The validity and reliability of the questionnaires were confirmed before data collection. Four 45-60 min training programs were delivered to the subjects using the TPB. Data were collected before, immediately after, and 1 month following the training program. Finally, IBM SPSS Statistics 21 was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS No significant difference was observed in terms of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, and osteoporosis prevention-related behavior between the experimental and control groups before proceeding with the intervention (P > 0.05). However, the mean scores of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, and behavior were significantly higher in the experimental group compared to those of the control group following the educational intervention (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION It can be concluded that such interventions based on the TPB can, in fact, produce a significant effect on osteoporosis prevention-related behaviors. Thus, it can serve as a useful model for planning educational interventions.

Abstract
Adequate dairy product intake can reduce the risk of chronic disease, mortality, low quality of life, and healthcare expenditure. However, the insufficient consumption of dairy products is a serious issue in Eastern societies. To the authors’ knowledge, few studies have explored dairy intake among Taiwanese older adults, especially using the transtheoretical model. The study aims were to address the following unknowns: (i) the distribution of dairy product intake behavior on stages of change (SOC); (ii) differences in variables (intake knowledge (IK), intake cons (IC), intake pros (IP), and intake self-efficacy (ISE)) among SOCs; (iii) discriminative abilities of variables on SOCs; and (iv) predictive ability of variables (IK, IC, IP, and ISE) for dairy product intake behavior on SOC for older adults. An explorative cross-sectional study was conducted to collect data from northern Taiwan using a questionnaire. A total of 342 older adults were recruited. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance, discriminant analysis, and multiple linear regression. There was a significant difference between the variables and SOCs. There was a better discriminant among the five SOCs. Dairy product intake behaviors were significantly associated with knowledge and self-efficacy in the pre-action stage, and with cons, pros, and self-efficacy in the post-action stage. In conclusion, appropriate nutritional empowerment could benefit older adults by improving dairy intake among the different SOCs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Mental health conditions may affect outcome of COVID-19 disease, while exposure to stressors during the pandemic may impact mental health. The purpose of this study was to examine these factors in relation to ocurrence of depression and anxiety after the first outbreak in Spain. METHODS We contacted 9515 participants from a population-based cohort study in Catalonia between May and October 2020. We drew blood samples to establish infection to the virus. Pre-pandemic mental health conditions were confirmed through Electronic Health Registries. We used the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale to assess severe depression and anxiety post-pandemic. Exposure to proximal, financial and wider environment stressors during the lockdown were collected. We calculated Relative Risks (RR), adjusting for individual- and contextual covariates. RESULTS Pre-pandemic mental health disorders were not associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection , but were associated with severity of COVID-19 disease. People with pre-existing mental health disorders showed higher prevalence of severe depression (25.4%) and anxiety (37.8%) than those without prior mental disorders (4.9% and 10.1%). Living alone was a strong predictor of severe depression among mental health patients (RR = 1.6, 95% CI 1.2-2.2). Among those without prior mental health disorders, post-lockdown depression and anxiety were associated with household interpersonal conflicts (RR = 2.6, 95% CI 2.1-3.1; RR = 2.1, 95% CI 1.9-2.4) and financial instability (RR = 2.2, 95% CI 1.8-2.9; 1.9, 95% CI 1.6-2.2). CONCLUSIONS The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown were associated with increased post-lockdown depression and anxiety. Patients with pre-existing mental health conditions are a vulnerable group for severe COVID-19 disease.

Abstract
AIM Osteoporosis is a major risk factor for fractures. Poor persistence with osteoporosis medication hampers outcomes. This study assessed whether encouraging the formation of patient-led follow-up cooperatives between general practitioners (GPs) and community pharmacists improved medication persistence. METHODS All consecutive patients who attended an osteoporosis patient education program were invited to participate. They were given a logbook containing questionnaires they would bring to 6-monthly visits to their GP and pharmacist. The effect of this 3-year cooperative follow-up on persistence with medication and lifestyle changes was assessed. RESULTS In total, 121 patients (average age, 67 years; 93% female) participated. Poor cooperation between GPs and pharmacists was noted. Nevertheless, medication persistence ranged from 83% to 91% over the 6 visits. However, since patient drop-out rates were high and questionnaire return rates were low, a post-study medical chart review was performed. This confirmed that persistence was high (74%-83%) at 3 years post-enrollment, even for oral bisphosphonate-treated patients (73%-76%). However, adoption of anti-osteoporosis lifestyle changes was poor throughout the study: one- to two-thirds of the patients did not alter their diet, physical activity, or surroundings to prevent falls. CONCLUSION One study goal, namely, to encourage GPs and pharmacists to cooperate in patient follow-up, was not achieved. However, high medication persistence was observed. This may reflect the education program, patient empowerment, personalized attention from study personnel, and being in a study. Patient-centered approaches can thus significantly increase medication persistence in osteoporosis. Ongoing education may be needed to improve patient adoption of and persistence with lifestyle changes.

Abstract
A scarcity in the intake of dairy products in older women begets a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, especially osteoporosis. However, dairy products are often not consumed in sufficient quantities in Eastern societies. This study used empowerment education to improve daily dairy intake in 68 older Asian women in the community through a quasi-experimental study design. The 34 participants in the experimental group took part in empowerment education programs that included lectures, sharing sessions, situation dramas, and cooking activities, for two hours per week for 6 weeks. The 34 participants in the control group had no interventions. The generalized estimating equation was used to evaluate the intervention’s effectiveness. The test was conducted for the two groups at 1 and 12 weeks after the completion of the lessons. We used daily dairy intake self-efficacy, intention, and behavior scale to measure the outcome. The change in the experimental group’s daily dairy intake self-efficacy and intention score at post-1 week and post-12 weeks was higher compared to the control group, but the dairy intake behavior was only changed at post-12 weeks. The empowerment education was effective in encouraging older women to change their dairy intake behavior and improved their dairy intake self-efficacy and intentions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to explore whether combined calcium and vitamin D supplementation is beneficial for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. METHODS We searched the PubMed, Cochrane library, Web of science and Embase databases and reference lists of eligible articles up to Feb, 2020. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of combined calcium and vitamin D on osteoporosis in postmenopausal women were included in the present study. RESULTS Combined calcium and vitamin D significantly increased total bone mineral density (BMD) (standard mean differences (SMD) = 0.537; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.227 to 0.847), lumbar spine BMD (SMD = 0.233; 95% CI: 0.073 to 0.392; P < 0.001), arms BMD (SMD = 0.464; 95% CI: 0.186 to 0.741) and femoral neck BMD (SMD = 0.187; 95% CI: 0.010 to 0.364). It also significantly reduced the incidence of hip fracture (RR = 0.864; 95% CI: 0.763 to 0.979). Subgroup analysis showed that combined calcium and vitamin D significantly increased femoral neck BMD only when the dose of the vitamin D intake was no more than 400 IU d-1 (SMD = 0.335; 95% CI: 0.113 to 0.558), but not for a dose more than 400 IU d-1 (SMD = -0.098; 95% CI: -0.109 to 0.305), and calcium had no effect on the femoral neck BMD. Subgroup analysis also showed only dairy products fortified with calcium and vitamin D had a significant influence on total BMD (SMD = 0.784; 95% CI: 0.322 to 1.247) and lumbar spine BMD (SMD = 0.320; 95% CI: 0.146 to 0.494), but not for combined calcium and vitamin D supplement. CONCLUSION Dairy products fortified with calcium and vitamin D have a favorable effect on bone mineral density. Combined calcium and vitamin D supplementation could prevent osteoporosis hip fracture in postmenopausal women.

The Effect of Kinesitherapy on Bone Mineral Density in Primary Osteoporosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trial. Abstract
Objective Osteoporosis (OP) is a well-established age-related disease, pathologically characterized by bone microarchitectural deterioration, increased fragility, and low BMD. Primary osteoporosis (POP) is the most common type of OP. Methods Publications pertaining to the effectiveness of kinesitherapy on BMD in POP from PubMed, SCI, Cochrane Library, Embase, VIP, CNKI, and Wanfang Database were retrieved from their inception to October 2019. Results A total of 21 studies with 1840 participants were included. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that kinesitherapy plus antiosteoporosis medications had a positive effect on lumbar spine BMD when the duration of intervention was 6 months (MD = 0.11 g/cm2; 95% CI: 0.06–0.15; P < 0.0001) or >6 months (MD = 0.04 g/cm2; 95% CI: 0.02–0.06; P < 0.0001) compared with antiosteoporosis medications alone. Additional kinesitherapy plus antiosteoporosis medications were associated with improved femoral neck BMD compared with antiosteoporosis medications alone (MD = 0.09 g/cm2; 95% CI: 0.03–0.16; P=0.004). Conclusions Kinesitherapy plus antiosteoporosis medications significantly improved lumbar spine and femoral neck BMD in the current low-quality evidence. Additional high-quality evidence is required to confirm the effect of kinesitherapy on BMD in patients with POP.

Abstract
Bone mineral density (BMD) screening is one of the main means to detect and treat osteoporosis. Yet, the manner in which ethno-cultural background is associated with BMD health cognitions and screening behavior remains limited. Several ethno-cultural groups (n = 100 in each group)—Israeli-born Jews, Israeli-born Bedouin-Muslims, and Jewish immigrants from the Former Soviet Union (FSU), mean age 70 (SD = 7.1)—participated in face-to-face interviews in a cross-sectional survey, using valid and reliable questionnaires on BMD screening behavior, knowledge about osteoporosis, and theory of planned behavior (TPB) components. FSU immigrants reported the lowest BMD screening behavior. The multivariate analysis showed that higher knowledge level, positive attitudes, supportive subjective norms, and greater intentions increase the probability of BMD screening behavior. The TPB attitude component had a more pronounced effect on the probability of undergoing BMD screening among Israeli-born Bedouin-Muslims compared to Israeli-born Jews. Our findings contribute to the TPB by deepening our understanding of the associations between TPB components and BMD screening behaviors, from an ethno-cultural perspective. To assure sufficient BMD screening behavior among all ethno-cultural groups, intervention programs—suited to address the unique characteristics of each ethno-cultural group—are required.

Abstract
Background: The association between the presence of dyslipidemia and major dietary patterns was examined in an adult Iranian population.
Study design: A cross-sectional study.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 4672 adults aged 35-65 yr old based on data from the Mashhad Stroke And Heart Atherosclerotic Disorder (MASHAD) Study initiated in 2010. Anthropometric and blood laboratory measurements were collected for all participants. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated 65-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Dietary patterns were identified using factor analysis.
Results: The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia was 88% including elevated total cholesterol (38.9%), triglyceride (35.2%), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (35.3) or decreased level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (68.9%). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, participants with higher scores for a Western pattern with lower physical activity level and educational attainment, and higher current smoking habit, increased the risk of having a raised LDL-C (OR=1.17; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.34; P =0.02). However, there was no significant association between adherence to this dietary pattern and other types of dyslipidemia. There was no significant association between a balanced dietary pattern and dyslipidemia and its components (OR=0.90; 95% CI: 0.68, 1.18; P =0.431).
Conclusion: Dyslipidemia was more prevalent among individuals with higher consumption of a western dietary pattern. A direct association was found between adherence to Western dietary pattern and LDL-C level.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a global public health issue and its consequent effects are a growing concern worldwide. Caregivers generally experience occupational physical ailments and they have less of a tendency to engage in preventive health behaviors, leading them to be in a higher risk group for osteoporosis. This study aims to present a general profile of health literacy related to osteoporosis risks and identify its associated factors among disability institutional caregivers. A cross-sectional study with a structured questionnaire was used to collect information on 465 caregivers from seven disability care institutions regarding their awareness of the health literacy related to osteoporosis risks. The results indicate that the average literacy score related to osteoporosis risks among the respondents was 60 points (full score is 80 points), with 50–59 being the most common range (51.9%), followed by 60–69 points (43.5%), and 4.4% of cases had more than 70 points. A multivariate logistic regression model revealed that respondents’ age (40–49 vs. 18–29; odds ratio (OR) = 2.53, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.31–4.87), education level (senior high vs. primary and junior high, OR = 2.00, 95% CI = 1.03–3.89; college and above vs. primary and junior high, OR = 3.66, 95% CI = 1.84–7.31), experience in undergoing a bone density test (OR = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.28–2.93), and poor physical fitness status (OR = 0.64, 95% CI = 0.43–0.95) were the significant predictors of the osteoporosis health literacy level. The osteoporosis health literacy of institutional caregivers is moderate, and there are many items that are worthy of attention in future health promotion programs. This study highlights risk factors related to a lower level of osteoporosis healthy literacy such as older age, less education, no experience of bone density test, and poor physical fitness that highlight the need to raise further awareness in order to improve caregivers’ bone health.

Abstract
Introduction Osteoporosis and bone fractures are common in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality. Current national guidance on COPD management recommends addressing bone health in patients, however, does not detail how. This consensus outlines key elements of a structured approach to managing bone health and fracture risk in patients with COPD. Methods A systematic approach incorporating multifaceted methodologies included detailed patient and healthcare professional (HCP) surveys followed by a roundtable meeting to reach a consensus on what a pathway would look like. Results The surveys revealed that fracture risk was not always assessed despite being recognised as an important aspect of COPD management by HCPs. The majority of the patients also stated they would be receptive to discussing treatment options if found to be at risk of osteoporotic fractures. Limited time and resource allocation were identified as barriers to addressing bone health during consultations. The consensus from the roundtable meeting was that a proactive systematic approach to assessing bone health should be adopted. This should involve using fracture risk assessment tools to identify individuals at risk, investigating secondary causes of osteoporosis if a diagnosis is made and reinforcing non-pharmacological and preventative measures such as smoking cessation, keeping active and pharmacological management of osteoporosis and medicines management of corticosteroid use. Practically, prioritising patients with important additional risk factors, such as previous fragility fractures, older age and long-term oral corticosteroid use for an assessment, was felt required. Conclusion There is a need for integrating fracture risk assessment into the COPD pathway. Developing a systematic and holistic approach to addressing bone health is key to achieving this. In tandem, opportunities to disseminate the information and educational resources are also required.

Abstract
UNLABELLED This study describes the median average intake of calcium in a population in Bogota, Colombia. Approximations on the possible reasons of low intake are listed. INTRODUCTION The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) published in 2017 the Calcium Map. It is a review of the calcium intake of 74 countries, placing Colombia in the bottom three countries of the world, with a daily calcium intake of 297 mg per day. The present study determined the actual median average calcium intake of a sample from Bogota and described it using sociodemographic variables. METHODS In 2019, 450 anonymous volunteers who agreed to fill out the IOF Calcium Calculator survey were recruited. Measures of frequencies and percentage for qualitative variables were used, along with measures of central tendency with averages and dispersion for quantitative variables. Insufficient daily calcium intake was determined according to age, gender, and overall. RESULTS The median average intake was 726 mg/day. Population between 18 and 30 years old had the highest intake per day. There were no significant differences between genders: women had a median average calcium intake of 731 mg/day, and for men it was 717.5 mg/day. Intake was directly correlated with socioeconomic status. CONCLUSIONS Calcium intake in Colombia is low according to the age requirements and it is proportional to the socioeconomic status. Medical societies and national government should create policies in order to educate the general public and increase the intake of calcium based on diet.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the present study, we aimed to (i) examine perceptions of achieving calcium and vitamin D recommended dietary allowance (RDA) and (ii) determine how participants talked about food in relation to RDA recommendations. METHODS Participants aged ≥50 years who were prescribed osteoporosis medication and received two modes of bone health education were eligible. Relying on a qualitative description design, we interviewed participants 1 month after they had attended an education session and received a self-management booklet. Calcium and vitamin D intakes were estimated by in-depth questions about diet and supplements and compared with perceptions of achieved RDA levels. Interview transcripts were analysed based on an analytic hierarchical process. RESULTS Forty-five participants (29 reporting previous fragility fractures) were included. Calcium and vitamin D RDA appeared to be potentially achieved by 64% and 93% of participants, respectively, primarily because of reliance on supplements. Few participants talked about vitamin D in relation to food intake and 49% of participants were unclear about the calcium content of food. Most considered that a healthy diet was equivalent to a calcium-rich diet. We noted no differences in our findings in the subset of individuals with fragility fractures. CONCLUSIONS Despite reporting a prescription for osteoporosis medication and receiving bone health education, a substantial number of individuals appeared to have sub-optimal calcium levels. This may be attributed to the challenge of achieving RDA with diet alone and the misconception of a healthy diet as a calcium-rich diet.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of osteoporosis (OP) is rapidly increasing. Healthy behaviors are crucial for the management of OP. Application of the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model has been verified in various chronic diseases, but this model has not been investigated for behavioral interventions among people with OP. This study aimed to examine factors influencing OP self-management behavior and their interaction paths based on the IMB model. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study using a convenience sampling method in 20 community health service centers in Shanghai, China. Predictive relationships between IMB model variables and self-management behaviors were evaluated using an anonymous questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was used to test the IMB model. RESULTS In total, 571 participants completed the questionnaire, of which 461 (80.7%) were female. Participants' mean age was 68.8 ± 10.1 years. Only 101 (17.7%) participants were classified as having better OP self-management behaviors. The model demonstrated the data had an acceptable fit. Paths from information to self-efficacy (β = 0.156, P < 0.001) and self-management behaviors (β = 0.236, P < 0.001), from health beliefs to self-efficacy (β = 0.266, P < 0.001), from medical system support to self-efficacy (β = 0.326, P < 0.001) and self-management behaviors (β = 0.230, P < 0.001), and from self-efficacy to self-management behaviors (β = 0.376, P < 0.001) were all significant and in the predicted direction. CONCLUSION This study validated the utility of the IMB model for OP self-management behaviors in this population. Middle-aged and older adult patients with OP have poor self-management behaviors. Enhanced knowledge about OP and is important for improving self-management behaviors.

Abstract
Our study aimed at constructing and validating the Lebanese Osteoporosis Knowledge Scale adapted for use among Lebanese women and to assess factors associated with the poorest knowledge of osteoporosis definition, risk factors, and preventive measures. This scale showed adequate psychometric properties; higher knowledge scores were reached in women who already heard about the disease and had a formal education. As a result, the LOKS-19 can be used to measure knowledge of osteoporosis and help assess osteoporosis-related interventions. INTRODUCTION The primary objective of this study was to describe the construction of the Lebanese Osteoporosis Knowledge Scale (LOKS) and assess its psychometric properties in a representative sample of Lebanese women aged 40 years and above. Secondary objectives were to explore factors associated with this knowledge score. METHODS A cross-sectional study carried out between March and June 2018, enrolled 560 women over the age of 40 years living in the community. This proportionate sample was randomly selected from all Lebanese governorates to cover the entire Lebanese area. A survey was developed and adapted to the Lebanese population based on preexisting scales. Personal interviews were conducted to collect data. RESULTS The items of the LOKS were distributed across seven factors with an Eigenvalue over 1 solution, outlining an overall value of 55.89% of the variance. A high Cronbach's alpha was found for the full scale (0.725). Individuals having a university level of education (beta = 1.62; compared to illiteracy), having heard of osteoporosis (beta = 2.62), taking supplements of calcium and vitamin D compared to none (beta = 0.77), and having had Crohn's disease (beta = 1.71) had significantly higher knowledge scores of osteoporosis; oppositely, having diabetes (beta = - 1.17), currently taking chemotherapy (beta = - 2.25), and ever having had a fracture (beta = - 0.74) were significantly correlated with lower awareness of osteoporosis. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that the LOKS-19 can be used to measure knowledge of osteoporosis and help assess osteoporosis-related interventions. A better knowledge seems to be associated with more preventive measures and less risk of fracture.

Abstract
Background Specialized, individualized exercise programs that increase self-efficacy (SE) are essential for the development and maintenance of regular exercise. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of customized exercise programs (CEPs) implemented by physical therapists in improving exercise-related SE and promoting behavioral changes among elderly individuals who do not exercise regularly compared with commonly prescribed exercises. Methods In this randomized controlled study, the sampling frame consisted of participants in an annual town-sponsored medical check-up. The inclusion criteria were no regular exercise and age of 65–74 years at enrollment. The subjects in the intervention group (CEP group) were instructed to perform individualized exercises prescribed based on an original algorithm. Data collection was performed at baseline and 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after exercise instruction. The primary outcome was SE for exercise at the last time point. Secondary outcomes were SE for exercise, stage of change in exercise behavior, knee pain, and low back pain at each evaluation time point. Results Fifty subjects (CEP group n = 26; control group n = 24) were randomized. In the CEP group, 25 of 26 subjects were analyzed at 3 months, 26 of 26 subjects were analyzed at 6 and 9 months, and 25 of 26 subjects were analyzed at 12 months. In the control group, 23 of 24 subjects were analyzed at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. SE for exercise improved 24.0% (CEP group 30.8%; control group 16.7%) compared to baseline. No significant differences were observed in the primary outcome. SE for exercise was significantly lower at 9 and 12 months compared with baseline in the control group. Stage of change for exercise behavior was significantly higher at 3 months compared with baseline in the CEP group and at 6 months in the control group. Knee pain was worse at 3 months compared with baseline in the control group. Conclusions This study suggested that exercise instruction with CEPs contributes to the maintenance of SE for exercise and is useful for changing exercise behavior in elderly individuals who do not regularly exercise. Abstract
Autonomy and mobility are, in many cases, key elements underlying positive ageing. Vitamin D (vitD) is essential to maintaining musculoskeletal health and hence mobility; ensuring adequate vitD status is important in positive ageing. However, vitD deficiency persists in ~10–30% of older adults in the Western world. The aim of this review was to explore older adult vitD beliefs, knowledge and preferences, in order to identify means to prevent vitD deficiency respectful of older peoples’ autonomy. Academic search-engines were used to explore the research literature with the keywords: vitamin D; older adults; preferences; knowledge; practices; beliefs. 22 recent studies were identified; although the majority of older people knew of vitD, knowledge about increased fall risk secondary to deficiency was limited and knowledge did not always correlate with adequate intake or status. There was evidence of confusion regarding vitD food sources, sun-exposure and health benefits, and although General Practitioners were trusted information sources they often did not discuss vitD with patients. Preferences varied significantly depending on geographic location, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education and cultural factors; overall, older people wanted more clear information about vitD. In conclusion, older people have a relatively high awareness of vitD, however, knowledge may be inaccurate and low in those most at risk, and knowledge of deficiency-associated fall risk is under-recognised. Furthermore, studies specifically addressing older adult preferences are lacking; an understanding of preferences, integrated into public health guidelines and implementation strategies, is key not only to decreasing the risk of vitamin D deficiency but also to enabling autonomy in older adults.
