Abstract
OBJECTIVES To estimate the prevalence of good self-reported health (SRH) in subpopulations based on the social determinants of health and to investigate the association between education (measured in years of schooling) and good SRH among men and women aged 18-49 years in Yangon Region, Myanmar. DESIGN Analysis of data from a population-based, cross-sectional study conducted in Yangon, Myanmar, from October to November 2016. A multistage sampling procedure was employed, and structured face-to-face interviews were conducted with standardised questions adapted from the Myanmar Demographic and Health Survey. Prevalence ratios (PRs) with 95% CIs were estimated using Poisson regression analyses by sex. SETTING Urban and rural areas of Yangon Region, Myanmar. PARTICIPANTS The sample included 2,506 participants (91.8% response rate) aged 18-49 years and excluded nuns, monks, soldiers, institutionalised people and individuals deemed too ill physically and/or mentally to participate. RESULTS The prevalence of good SRH was 61.2% (95% CI 59.3 to 63.1), with higher rates among men (72.0%, 95% CI 69.3 to 74.5), younger individuals (69.2%, 95% CI 66.2 to 72.1), urban residents (63.6%, 95% CI 60.8 to 66.3), extended family dwellers (66.6%, 95% CI 63.7 to 69.4) and those with a higher level of education (66.0%, 95% CI 61.3 to 70.5). After adjusting for confounders (age and area of residence), the association between years of schooling and SRH (PR) was 1.01 (95% CI 1.01 to 1.02, p=0.002) in men and 1.01 (95% CI 0.99 to 1.02, p=0.415) in women. CONCLUSIONS Good SRH was more prevalent among men than among women. Additionally, a 1-year increase in education was associated with a 1% increase in the prevalence of good SRH among men, whereas the association was not statistically significant among women. In order to enhance the educational benefits of health in Myanmar, we recommend a higher focus on the length of education and addressing gender inequalities in wage return from education.

Abstract
Background The purpose of this study was to understand the current status of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health literacy among rural older adults people and its influencing factors. Methods This study used a random number table method to select one prefecture from Henan Province, China and used a convenience sampling method to select 200 rural older adults who met the inclusion criteria in a township in northern Henan from March to April 2023. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a general information questionnaire and a traditional Chinese medicine health literacy questionnaire, and the influencing factors of rural older adults were analyzed using univariate analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple linear regression. Results The total TCM health literacy score of 200 rural older adults people was 84.14 ± 6.709. One-way ANOVA revealed that six factors, including education level, marital status, type of occupation, presence of family members engaged in medical-related work, main economic sources, and monthly income, influenced the TCM health literacy score of rural older adults people (p < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that education level, occupation type, and the presence of family members engaged in medical-related work were the factors influencing the TCM health literacy of rural older adults. Conclusion The TCM health literacy level of rural older adults people is at the lower to middle level, and health educators should strengthen the publicity and education of TCM healthcare knowledge for rural older adults people to improve their TCM health literacy level and thus enhance their quality of life.

Abstract
Background Dietary behavior is a pivotal modifiable determinant in reducing the occurrence of obesity/overweight and chronic non-communicable diseases. Improving the dietary behavior of rural residents in China is imminent due to the poor performance of their dietary behavior. Nutrition knowledge and health literacy are considered as elements that are linked intimately to healthy dietary behaviors but lack research in the Chinese setting. Purpose The study is designed to explore the relationship between nutritional knowledge, health literacy and dietary behaviors and to analyze the performance under different demographic characteristics. Methods A face-to-face survey of 400 rural residents on their nutrition knowledge, functional health literacy and dietary intake of five food categories consisting of 32 items was conducted based on a validated questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, difference test including ANOVA, t-test and non-parametric test, and multivariate linear regression were used for data analysis. Results The results indicate that declarative nutrition knowledge, individuals' information application capacity, and dietary behaviors, especially the intake of fruits, dairy and beans, and vegetable are not ideal and requires improvement. Male, elder, low-income, unmarried, and low-education populations performed significantly worse and were the high-risk group. Procedural nutrition knowledge, information access capacity, information understanding capacity, and information application capacity have remarkable effects on better dietary behavior. Conclusion This study provides evidence-based guidance for prioritizing information and populations for healthy dietary interventions.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate changes in the income-health gradient over the later life course. We test the age-as-leveler, the cumulative advantage/disadvantage, and the persistent inequality pattern for physical and cognitive health domains, and analyze whether these patterns are gendered. We used HRS data (1992-2016) and Poisson growth curve models to predict multimorbidity (33,860 participants) as an indicator of physical health and memory (25,291 participants) as an indicator of cognitive health. We disentangled the within-participant from the between-participant effects. For multimorbidity, the income-health gradient weakened as individuals aged; whereas for memory, the income-health gradient strengthened as individuals aged. The cumulative advantage/disadvantage of higher/lower income on memory may be more pronounced among women than men. Findings were confirmed by sensitivity analyses. Findings suggest that the support for the age-as-leveler or cumulative advantage/disadvantage pattern may depend on health domains and the effect strength may depend on gender.

Abstract
Objectives Although there is an association between socioeconomic factors and cognition, there are shortcomings in terms of examining the age of onset of decline between people with varying social backgrounds. This study aims to present the disparities in cognitive performance among older adults by simultaneously integrating health status, social characteristics, and age into an understandable metric. Study design This study is cross-sectional. Methods A sample of 3422 adults aged at least 60 was utilised from the 2015 wave of the China Health and Nutrition Survey to analyse the trajectories of cognitive ageing through the Characteristics approach. This approach generates an age-differential schedule whereby, as a hypothetical example, the cognition level Z of an individual aged 60 who has not completed schooling is demonstrated at age 66 by someone who has completed secondary schooling. Results There was an increasing advantage with cognitive performance as the level of education completed increased; men aged 61.9 with a primary level of schooling and those aged 67.8 with postsecondary qualifications exhibit the same cognition performance as those aged 60 with no completed schooling. The observation also suggested that cognition advantages diminish through age. In terms of income, the age-differential schedule follows a similar pattern. albeit lower outcomes, to that of education differentials. Conclusion When comparing education and income levels and their respective impacts on cognitive functioning, the former has been noted to have a larger effect. Education's effect has continuity in that it can influence opportunities until later ages.

Abstract
Background Research on sex ratios of Lewy body dementia is controversial, established in small samples, and rarely focused on prodromal stage. The objective is to investigate the clinical sex ratios (men/women) and their associations with clinical features among individuals with mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI-LB), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), Parkinson’s disease with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI), and Parkinson’s disease with dementia (PDD) in China. Methods We conducted a multicenter cohort study, including 1038 individuals with probable MCI-LB, DLB, PD-MCI, or PDD diagnosis from 22 memory clinics in China from January 2018 to March 2022, and recorded their demographic and clinical data by reviewing medical records. Descriptive and regression analyses were used to calculate the sex ratio (men/women), and its associations with demographic and clinical data. Results In this study, men comprised 35.14% (men/women sex ratio = 0.54) for MCI-LB, 46.72% (men/women sex ratio = 0.88) for DLB, 63.56% (men/women sex ratio = 1.74) for PD-MCI, and 52.40% (men/women sex ratio = 1.10) for PDD. Sex ratios roughly increased with age. Men had more parkinsonism (p = 0.000) and less fluctuating cognition (p = 0.024) in MCI-LB, and those with PD-MCI had more RBD (p = 0.001). Women with PD-MCI had lower MMSE scores (β ± standard error = − 1.24 ± 0.58, p = 0.04), more irritability (0.95 ± 0.46, p = 0.04) and fluctuating cognition (− 3.41 ± 1.31, p = 0.01), and less parkinsonism (− 2.10 ± 0.97, p = 0.03) than men after adjusting for demographic and cardiometabolic conditions. Conclusion There were more women in DLB and MCI-LB, and more men in PD-MCI and PDD. The sex distribution, demographic, and clinical characteristics differed, which strengthened the independence and heterogeneity of the four diseases, and indicated sex-sensitive strategies for management of dementia necessary. There are significant sex differences in Chinese population with cognitive impairment in Lewy body disease. Women were more common in dementia with Lewy bodies and mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies cases, had more frequent and severe neuropsychiatric symptoms, and poorer cognition than men. Men predominant in Parkinson’s disease with mild cognitive impairment and Parkinson’s disease with dementia cases, and performed more frequent RBD and parkinsonism than women. Dementia with Lewy bodies vs. Parkinson’s disease with dementia, and mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies vs. Parkinson’s disease with mild cognitive impairment are distinct disease forms and should not be confused.

Abstract
Background Understanding how urban environments influence people’s health, especially as individuals age, can help identify ways to improve health in the rapidly urbanizing and rapidly aging populations. Objectives To investigate the association between age and self-reported health (SRH) in adults living in Latin-American cities and whether gender and city-level socioeconomic characteristics modify this association. Methods Cross-sectional analyses of 71,541 adults aged 25–97 years, from 114 cities in 6 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, and Guatemala), as part of the Salud Urbana en America Latina (SALURBAL) Project. We used individual-level age, gender, education, and self-reported health (SRH) data from harmonized health surveys. As proxies for socioeconomic environment we used a city-level socioeconomic index (SEI) calculated from census data, and gross domestic product (GDP) per-capita. Multilevel Poisson models with a robust variance were used to estimate relative risks (RR), with individuals nested in cities and binary SRH (poor SHR vs. good SRH) as the outcome. We examined effect modification by gender and city-level socioeconomic indicators. Results Overall, 31.4% of the sample reported poor SRH. After adjusting for individual-level education, men had a lower risk of poor SRH (RR = 0.76; CI 0.73–0.78) compared to women, and gender modified the association between age and poor SRH (p-value of interaction < 0.001). In gender stratified models, the association between older age and poor SRH was more pronounced in men than in women, and in those aged 25–65 than among those 65+ (RR/10 years = 1.38 vs. 1.10 for men, and RR/10 years = 1.29 vs. 1.02 for women). Living in cities with higher SEI or higher GDP per-capita was associated with a lower risk of poor SRH. GDP per-capita modified the association between age (25–65) and SRH in men and women, with SEI the interaction was less clear. Conclusions Across cities in Latin America, aging impact on health is significant among middle-aged adults, and among men. In both genders, cities with lower SEI or lower GDP per-capita were associated with poor SRH. More research is needed to better understand gender inequalities and how city socioeconomic environments, represented by different indicators, modify exposures and vulnerabilities associated with aging. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore how age and sex affect the impacts of self-rated health, self-reported physical activities, physical function, and depressive symptoms on long-term mortality among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults using a nationally representative population-based cohort study. METHODS Data from 1550 study participants from the Social Environment and Biomarkers of Aging Study (SEBAS) were retrieved for analysis, and all participants were divided into four groups based on their age and gender. Middle aged participants were aged 53 to 64 years, and elderly subjects were ≥ 65 years old. Multivariate logistic regression models were applied to investigate the associations between age, sex, and self-reported disabilities of physical activities, physical function (activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and depression. RESULTS Although the self-reported health status was similar across different age- and sex-stratified subgroups, older women were at the highest risk in self-reported difficulty with physical activities (aOR 2.58 [1.55-4.28]) and difficulty with IADL (aOR 3.32 [2.20-5.03]) compared to men. After adjusting for living arrangement, residence locale, education levels, occupation, socioeconomic status, self-reported health, multimorbidity, impairments in daily activities, and depressive symptoms, older men were found to display the highest risk of mortality (aHR 2.06 [95% CI 1.45-2.93]). CONCLUSIONS Although self-reported health was similar across different age and sex stratified subgroups, women (particularly older women) are significantly more likely to have worse physical and functional health than men. After adjusting for all confounding factors, men are at substantially greater risk for mortality despite reporting better health and functional performance.

Abstract
The study focuses on the role of adult offspring's educational attainment in obesity among older adults in China and investigates age and birth cohort heterogeneities in the educational effect. Using the longitudinal data from the 1993-2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), we employed three-level mixed-effects models and conducted sex-stratified analyses to examine the effects of co-resident offspring's education on body mass index (BMI), overweight, waist circumference (WC), and abdominal obesity among older people born before 1956. After controlling for confounding factors, the overall results showed inverted U-shaped educational gradients in BMI-based outcomes for males and positive gradients for females. The effect of education on WC exhibited an inverted U-shaped pattern for both sexes, but no significant effect on abdominal obesity was found among the overall population. However, further analyses of interaction effects indicated considerable age and cohort variations in the educational effects on obesity outcomes. Offspring's schooling was positively associated with obesity among earlier birth cohorts; Among more recent birth cohorts, especially among females, the educational effects were reversed, and disparities in obesity outcomes across education categories strengthened with age. These findings imply that offspring's education appears to gradually exert a protective role against obesity among Chinese older adults in successive cohorts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The accelerated aging trend brought great chronic diseases burdens. Disabled Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) is a novel way to measure the chronic diseases burden. This study aimed to explore the cohort, socioeconomic status (SES), and gender disparities of the DALYs trajectories. METHODS A total of 15,062 participants (55,740 observations) comes from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2018. Mixed growth curve model was adopted to predict the DALYS trajectories in 45-90 years old people influenced by different birth cohorts and SES. RESULTS We find significant cohort, SES (resident place, education level and income) disparities differences in the chronic diseases DALYs. For individuals of earlier cohort, DALYs are developed in a late age but grow fast with age but reversed for most recent cohorts. Living in urban, having higher SES level will decrease the growth rate with age, but converges for most recent cohorts. Meanwhile, DALYs disparities of resident place and education level show gender differentials that those for female are narrowed across cohort but for male are not. CONCLUSIONS The cohort effects on chronic diseases DALYs are accumulated with China's unique social, and political settings. There are large inequalities in early experiences, SES and DALYs. Efforts of reducing these inequalities must focus on the lower SES individuals and those living in rural areas, which greatly benefit individuals from recent cohorts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To examine associations of socioeconomic position (SEP), separately indicated by education, monthly family average income (FAI) and occupation, with health literacy (HL) among adults in regional China. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among urban and rural adults (aged 25-69 years) who were randomly selected, using the probability proportionate to size sampling approach, from Nanjing municipality of China during October and December of 2016. HL, the outcome variable, was assessed using the Chinese Resident Health Literacy Scale. SEP, our independent variable, was separately measured with educational attainment, monthly family average income and occupation. Logistic regression models were introduced to examine SEP-HL association with odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Totally, 8698 participants completed the survey. The proportion of participants with unweighted and weighted adequate HL was 18.0% (95%CI = 17.2, 18.8%) and 19.9% (95%CI = 16.6, 23.6%), respectively, in this study. After adjustment for possible confounding factors, each SEP indicator was in significantly positive relation to both unweighted and weight HL level. Participants who obtained 13+ and 10-12 years educational attainment, respectively, had 2.41 (95%CI = 1.60, 3.64) and 1.68 (95%CI = 1.23, 2.29) times odds to record weighted adequate HL compared to their counterparts who were with 0-9 years education. Subjects within upper (OR = 1.92, 95%CI = 1.24, 2.98) and middle FAI tertile (OR = 1.59, 95%CI = 1.19, 2.13), respectively, were more likely to report weighted adequate HL relative to those who were within lower FAI tertile. White collars were more likely to have weighted adequate HL (OR = 1.33, 95%CI = 1.09, 1.61) than blue collars. CONCLUSIONS Each of education, FAI and occupation was positively associated with health literacy among urban and rural adults in China. The findings have important implications that different SEP indicators can be used to identify vulnerable residents in population-based health literacy promotion campaigns.
