Abstract
This study aimed to characterize pregnant individuals' use of cannabidiol (CBD). Data are from the International Cannabis Policy Study (2019-2021), a repeated cross-sectional survey of individuals aged 16-65 years in the United States and Canada (N=66,457 women, including 1,096 pregnant women). The primary analysis compared pregnant and nonpregnant women's CBD-only product use patterns and reasons for use. The prevalence of CBD-only use in pregnant women was 20.4% compared with 11.3% among nonpregnant women, P <.001. Reasons for CBD use among pregnant women included anxiety (58.4%), depression (40.3%), posttraumatic stress disorder (32.1%); pain (52.3%), headache (35.6%), and nausea or vomiting (31.9%). Thus, CBD-only product use was prevalent in this large sample, with one in five pregnant women reporting use. Characterization of prenatal CBD use is an important first step to exploring potential risks to exposed offspring.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating cannabis compound found in diverse commercial products worldwide. However, its use may not be fully harmless. Accordingly, it is important to document the prevalence of CBD use and user characteristics in the general population. METHODS We conducted a nationwide survey from a random sample of adults living in France using computer-assisted telephone interviews between 2 March and 9 July 2022. We estimated the prevalence of CBD awareness and CBD use, and explored the different routes of administration. We also performed logistic regression models to identify factors associated with past-year CBD use. RESULTS Based on data from 3229 participants, we estimated that 71.0% (95% confidence interval) (69.0-73.0) of the French adult population had heard of CBD, and 10.1% (8.7-11.4) had used it in the previous year. Past-year CBD use was associated with younger age, a higher educational level, not living in a middle-sized urban unit, tobacco consumption and e-cigarette use. The most common route of administration was smoking (56.1%). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Past-year CBD use prevalence in France appeared to be as high as that for cannabis. Proper prevention, regulation and control of CBD products is necessary to ensure that people have access to safe and high-quality products. Reliable information on CBD should be sought and disseminated, especially regarding the harms associated with smoking the compound.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A market for cannabis with low levels (LT) of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has recently emerged in Europe alongside an ongoing trend of domestic cannabis cultivation with high-THC content (HT). This phenomenon may have diversified the growers' profile. This study investigates LT growers' (LTG) characteristics (demographics, consumption patterns, growing experience) and growing motivations with a subsequent comparison with HT growers (HTG). METHODS Data from 11,479 small-scale growers was collected through an online survey (ICCQ 2) conducted by the Global Cannabis Cultivation Research Consortium (GCCRC) from 2020 to 2021. This exploratory study analyses a subsample of the 1618 respondents residing in Italy and Switzerland. A quantitative approach was used, performing comparative bivariate and multivariate analyses between participants who have only grown HT plants in the previous year (HTG; n = 1303) and those who have either grown LT only or alongside HT (LTG; n = 315). RESULTS LTGs differ significantly from HTGs. LTGs are older than HTGs. Growing medical cannabis for oneself and others is more likely among them than HTGs. Compared to HTGs, LTGs have lesser odds to grow for recreational use and to have problematic cannabis use. Growing for legality, pleasure and accessing milder cannabis is more likely for LTGs than HTGs. HTGs have greater experience than HTGs, growing for longer, more extensively and better meeting their consumption needs. There is a wider production of by-products, such as oils and extracts, among LTGs than HTGs. Having been in contact with the police for growing is also more likely among them than HTGs. CONCLUSION LTGs reported significantly more growing experience when compared to HTGs and should be considered a distinct group of growers. The results suggest that the emergence of the legal LT market has more likely drawn previous HTGs into growing LT, mainly medically, rather than attracting new individuals toward cannabis cultivation.

Abstract
In recent years, the increase in cannabidiol (CBD) sales in Europe has raised questions regarding the legal status of this product, as well as its safety of use. Consumers seem to be looking for solutions to various health issues. However, the scientific reality is much more nuanced. The European CBD market emerged in Switzerland in 2016 and subsequently expanded across the continent. This expansion has been facilitated by the establishment of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration limits for these products. However, the current market offers a diverse range of CBD products, often lacking clear information on raw materials, product concentrations and recommended dosages. Regulating these products is challenging, as the appropriate classification of CBD remains uncertain. CBD products are in high demand worldwide, with many people seeking alternative treatments for medical conditions or general health and well-being benefits. However, the use of CBD products often relies on self-medication and lacks sufficient scientific evidence. Improved communication between patients and healthcare professionals is needed to ensure informed decisions and address potential interactions with other medications. Scientific evidence on CBD is currently limited and the efficacy of CBD-containing products has only been proven in clinical trials for Epidyolex® as an add-on therapy. There is no consensus on the long-term safety, appropriate dosage, schedules or administration routes for CBD. Health claims associated with CBD are not consistent with the available scientific research, which is still in its early stages. Further clinical research is needed to establish the efficacy and safety of CBD in various medical conditions. The enthusiasm surrounding CBD-based products should be tempered by the limited scientific evidence of their efficacy, the inadequacy of patient expectations, regulatory concerns and potential drug interactions.

Abstract
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa, commonly known as cannabis or hemp. Although currently available CBD products do not meet the safety standards of most food safety authorities to be approved as a dietary supplement or food additive, CBD has been gaining widespread attention in recent years due to its various potential health benefits. While primarily known for its therapeutic effects in managing epileptic seizures, psychosis, anxiety, (neuropathic) pain, and inflammation, CBD's influence on brain function has also piqued the interest of researchers and individuals seeking to enhance cognitive performance. The primary objective of this review is to gather, synthesize, and consolidate scientifically proven evidence on the impact of CBD on brain function and its therapeutic significance in treating neurological and mental disorders. First, basic background information on CBD, including its biomolecular properties and mechanisms of action is presented. Next, evidence for CBD effects in the human brain is provided followed by a discussion on the potential implications of CBD as a neurotherapeutic agent. The potential effectiveness of CBD in reducing chronic pain is considered but also in reducing the symptoms of various brain disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's disease. Additionally, the implications of using CBD to manage psychiatric conditions such as psychosis, anxiety and fear, depression, and substance use disorders are explored. An overview of the beneficial effects of CBD on aspects of human behavior, such as sleep, motor control, cognition and memory, is then provided. As CBD products remain largely unregulated, it is crucial to address the ethical concerns associated with their use, including product quality, consistency, and safety. Therefore, this review discusses the need for responsible research and regulation of CBD to ensure its safety and efficacy as a therapeutic agent for brain disorders or to stimulate behavioral and cognitive abilities of healthy individuals.

Abstract
Due to cannabidiol's health benefits and absence of serious side effects, its use is constantly growing. This is a survey-based cross-sectional study that was conducted to determine Croatian pharmacists', physicians', and students' knowledge and attitudes about cannabidiol (CBD). Two questionnaires were created, one for students and the other for physicians and pharmacists. Our participants (in total 874: 473 students and 401 physicians and pharmacists) generally had positive attitudes towards CBD therapy as approximately 60% of them believe that CBD treatment is generally efficacious. Participants had positive attitudes toward the therapeutic value of CBD, especially pharmacists and pharmacy students (63.8% and 72.2%, respectively). Pharmacists were significantly more convinced that CBD could reduce the use of opioids prescribed for chronic pain (p < 0.05). Only 17.5% of students had read scientific papers about CBD, compared to a significantly higher percentage of physicians and pharmacists (43.0% and 47.8%, respectively) (p < 0.05). This study revealed a gap in knowledge regarding CBD, since 89.3% of pharmacists and physicians, as well as 84.8% of students, believe they need more education about CBD. We conclude that it is important to improve the educational curricula so that medical professionals can recommend CBD use to their patients when needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating substance of Cannabis sativa L., is gaining consumer attention. Yet, legal regulations in the EU are complex and questions of potential health risks remain partly unanswered. In Germany, little is known about people who use CBD products. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to gain insight into the user group of CBD, reasons for consumption and risk perception towards CBD-containing products. METHODS The study consisted of two parts: In the first part of the study, the prevalence of CBD awareness and usage in Germany was estimated using a telephone survey and a population-representative sample of n = 1,011 respondents. Based on these results, n = 2,000 participants being aware of CBD were surveyed with an online questionnaire in the second part of the study to examine usage and perception of CBD in users and non-users. RESULTS When the study was conducted at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021, 40.2% of the German participants had already heard of products containing CBD, and 11.4% had actually used them. 42.1% of the users consumed such products regularly, at least once a week, primarily orally via oils or tinctures, and purchased them mainly online. Besides curiosity - addressed especially in young adults - anticipated health benefits including pain and stress relief were main reasons for use. More than half of the study participants perceived the health benefits of CBD use as high or very high. In contrast, the health risks were rated as low or very low by most respondents. Assumptions about official testing for safety as well as physical effects of CBD-containing products varied between users and non-users. CONCLUSION About one in nine people in Germany uses CBD-containing products. Given reasons for consumption and perception of potential health risks and benefits suggest that people are insufficiently informed about CBD-containing products. The results of the study indicate that risk communication is needed to raise awareness for the topic and to inform (potential) users.

Abstract
Cannabis plants have been used in medicine since ancient times. They are well known for their anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anti-cancer, anti-oxidative, anti-microbial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal activities. A growing body of evidence indicates that targeting the endocannabinoid system and various other receptors with cannabinoid compounds holds great promise for addressing multiple medical conditions. There are two distinct avenues in the development of cannabinoid-based drugs. The first involves creating treatments directly based on the components of the cannabis plant. The second involves a singular molecule strategy, in which specific phytocannabinoids or newly discovered cannabinoids with therapeutic promise are pinpointed and synthesized for future pharmaceutical development and validation. Although the therapeutic potential of cannabis is enormous, few cannabis-related approved drugs exist, and this avenue warrants further investigation. With this in mind, we review here the medicinal properties of cannabis, its phytochemicals, approved drugs of natural and synthetic origin, pitfalls on the way to the widespread clinical use of cannabis, and additional applications of cannabis-related products.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is present in Cannabis Sativa L. and has been used in medicines and foods to deliver beneficial health effects. Despite this, research on CBD safety utilising modern testing methods is lacking. Therefore three separate safety experiments were performed on a CBD isolate. Sprague-Dawley rats were used to investigate prenatal development, a 14-day toxicity sighting study, and an OECD compliant 90-day subchronic oral toxicity trial, with 35-day off-dose recovery. The prenatal screening study demonstrated reduced body weights and food consumption in the highest dose group, but no substance-related changes in pregnancy rate, maternal or placental gross abnormalities, or premature deliveries. The 14-day study indicated tolerance up to 460 mg/kg bw/d of CBD isolate. Based on these findings, a 90-day repeated dose oral toxicity study was performed at doses of 0, 30, 115, 230, and 460 mg/kg bw/d of CBD, followed by a 35-day off-dose recovery period. In the 90-day study, some non-adverse organ and tissue changes were observed. With the exception of the high dose group, these fully reversed during the recovery period. Based on these findings, sub-chronic consumption of highly purified isolate results in a CBD NOAEL of 460 mg/kg bw/d for males and 230 mg/kg bw/d for females.
