Abstract
The current decade 2021-2030 was designated by the United Nations as the decade of healthy aging, which underlines the need for public health innovation for arthritis clinical care. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a novel and emerging parameter closely associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and has been suggested to indicate the risk of arthritis. This study examined the longitudinal changes of TyG levels in relation to arthritis among a nationwide cohort of older Chinese adults. We recruited 1257 participants from a national cohort of older Chinese adults, the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. On the basis of the longitudinal changes in TyG between 2012 and 2014, we performed a k-means clustering analysis to classify the participants into four TyG groups: Class 1 with moderate and stable levels of TyG; Class 2 with low but rising level of TyG; Class 3 with consistently high TyG; and Class 4 with high and TyG-level rise compared with the baseline. After a 2-year follow-up, logistic regression was used to identify the association between TyG and the onset of arthritis. Compared with individuals in Class 1, those in Class 3 and Class 4 experienced a higher risk of arthritis, with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.823 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.113-7.160) and 2.848 (95% CI: 1.299-6.246), respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study exploring the association between dynamic longitudinal changes in TyG and arthritis. Further studies on world populations are called for.

Abstract
The association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and sarcopenia has been suggested. We investigated sarcopenia's impact on NAFLD severity and its relationship with cardiometabolic risk in adolescents. We conducted a retrospective study on 122 patients aged 13-18 years and diagnosed with both NAFLD and sarcopenia by laboratory tests, abdominal ultrasound (US), and multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis. Sarcopenia was stratified into tertiles based on the skeletal muscle-to-fat ratio (MFR), NAFLD severity was established by the US, and cardiometabolic risk was assessed by the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP). Compared with the other patients, those in the lower MFR tertiles exhibited a greater severity of NAFLD (p < 0.001) and significantly higher TyG index and AIP. The independent effect of MFR was observed to have a negative correlation with the severity of NAFLD (p < 0.001). Based on the aforementioned results, the degree of sarcopenia can be considered as one of the risk factors of severe NAFLD and might be an indicator of cardiometabolic risk in adolescents. Weight training to reach the amount of muscle mass could be included in the treatment strategies to improve or prevent NAFLD in adolescents with sarcopenia.

Abstract
Background The correlation between various insulin resistance surrogates and frailty remains under investigation in the scientific community. Methods Data from NHANES (1999-2018) were used. We utilized weighted binary logistic regression, trend tests, RCS analysis, and subgroup analysis to comprehensively assess the link between METS-IR, HOMA-IR, and TyG, and frailty risk. Results The results revealed a significant positive association between high levels of METS-IR, HOMA-IR, and TyG with the risk of frailty in all models. Notably, in model 4, the highest quintile of METS-IR showed the strongest link (OR: 2.960, 95% CI: 2.219-3.949), with HOMA-IR (OR: 2.522, 95% CI: 1.927-3.301) following closely behind. Trend tests revealed a positive trend between METS-IR, HOMA-IR, and TyG with the risk of frailty (P for trend < 0.05). RCS analysis showed a linear relationship between METS-IR and the risk of frailty (P for nonlinearity > 0.05). In contrast, HOMA-IR and TyG exhibited a U-shaped nonlinear relationship (P for nonlinearity < 0.05). Conclusion The research identified a linear association between METS-IR and frailty risk, whereas HOMA-IR and TyG displayed a U-shaped, nonlinear relationship pattern with the risk of frailty. Among the varying levels examined, the linkage between METS-IR and frailty was most pronounced in the top quintile.

Abstract
Background The relationship between atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and sarcopenia has not been studied in the United States (US) population. Methods This research included 4,835 people from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2011 and 2018. The relationship between sarcopenia and TyG-BMI, as well as the AIP index, was examined through the utilization of restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis, subgroup analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Diagnostic value of AIP and TyG-BMI for sarcopenia was compared by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results In this research, 428 people with sarcopenia were identified among the 4,835 subjects that were included in the experiment. AIP and sarcopenia were positively associated with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.58 and a 95% confidence interval (CI) of (1.07, 2.34) on fully adjusted multivariate logistic regression analysis. Similarly, TyG-BMI and sarcopenia were positively associated with an OR of 8.83 and a 95% CI of (5.46, 14.26). AIP and sarcopenia had a non-linear positive connection (P-value<0.001, P-Nonlinear=0.010), while TyG-BMI and sarcopenia had a linear positive correlation (P-value<0.001, P-Nonlinear=0.064), according to RCS analysis. Subgroup analyses showed a significant interaction between TyG-BMI and sarcopenia due to gender (P = 0.023). ROC curves showed that TyG-BMI (AUC:0.738, 95% CI: 0.714 - 0.761) was more useful than AIP (AUC:0.648, 95% CI: 0.622 - 0.673) in diagnosing sarcopenia. Conclusion In US adults aged 20-59 years, our study revealed a correlation between elevated AIP and TyG-BMI levels and heightened sarcopenia risk. Moreover, TyG-BMI has better diagnostic validity than AIP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a marker of insulin resistance, but its role in sarcopenia is controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of the TyG index with sarcopenia. METHODS 4030 participants aged 20 years and above were selected from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for cross sectional study. Weighted logistic regression model was used to estimate the association between TyG index and sarcopenia. Threshold effect analysis and restricted cubic spline were employed to describe nonlinear link, with interaction tests and subgroup analyses performed. RESULTS It was found in the fully adjusted model that the TyG index was positively associated with sarcopenia (per 1-unit increase in the TyG index: OR = 1.31, 95%CI: 1.07, 1.60). This association was further highlighted in groups characterized by the absence of MetS or diabetes, as well as the absence of vigorous or moderate work activity. Furthermore, analysis of the curve fitting and threshold effects indicated a nonlinear relationship, which exhibited a turning point at 9.14. CONCLUSION The study results indicated that the TyG index was positively associated with sarcopenia. Enhancing the management of insulin resistance could help reduce the risk of developing sarcopenia.

Abstract
Objective This research sought to explore the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the risk of sarcopenia in patients with chronic inflammatory airway disease (CIAD). Methods Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2018. Grouping was performed using TyG index tertiles and multiple logistic regression was employed to assess the correlation between TyG levels and the risk of sarcopenia. The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was conducted to determine the prognostic value of the TyG index for sarcopenia. Linear regression analysis was utilized to elucidate the direct relationship between TyG index and sarcopenia. Additionally, the curve between the TyG and sarcopenia indices was examined using a generalized additive model. Results The study included 981 individuals diagnosed with CIAD. After adjusting for potential confounders, a significant positive correlation was observed between TyG and sarcopenia (OR = 1.70, 95 % CI: 1.20-2.39, P = 0.002). Trend analysis using the chi-square test revealed an increase in sarcopenia prevalence concomitant with higher TyG levels (P < 0.05). Furthermore, linear regression analysis revealed a notable inverse linear association between the TyG and sarcopenia indices (β = -0.03; 95 % CI: -0.07-0.01; P = 0.020). The ROC curves corroborated the robust predictive capacity of TyG for sarcopenia among patients with CIAD, with an AUC of 0.685 (95 % CI: 0.636-0.735, P < 0.001). Conclusion Our research indicates a positive association between TyG and sarcopenia in CIAD patients. The TyG index may serve as a reliable marker for predicting sarcopenia risk in CIAD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index-related indicators improve risk stratification by identifying individuals prone to atherosclerosis early in life. This study aimed to examine the relation between TyG-waist circumference-to-height ratio (TyG-WHtR) and coronary heart disease. METHODS Data from four National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) cycles between 2011 and 2018 were used for a cross-sectional study. The association between TyG-WHtR and coronary heart disease risk was examined using a multifactorial logistic regression model, and corresponding subgroup analyses were performed. Nonlinear correlations were analyzed using smooth curve fitting and threshold effects analysis. When nonlinear connections were discovered, appropriate inflection points were investigated using recursive methods. RESULTS TyG-WHtR and coronary heart disease were significantly positively correlated in the multifactorial logistic regression analysis. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests revealed that gender, age, smoking status, and cancer were not significantly associated with this correlation (P for interaction > 0.05). Furthermore, utilizing threshold effect analysis and smooth curve fitting, a nonlinear connection with an inflection point of 0.36 was observed between TyG-WHtR and coronary heart disease. CONCLUSIONS According to this study, the American population is far more likely to have coronary heart disease if they have higher TyG-WHtR levels.

Abstract
Objective There is no study on the relationship between triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and skeletal muscle mass in middle-aged and elderly C population. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and weight-adjusted relative skeletal muscle index (RSMI) in middle-aged and elderly C population. Methods We retrospectively studied 947 aged ⩾40 years subjects who got a routine medical examination in the Department of Geriatrics of R Hospital from May 2021 to March 2023. The RSMI was designed to evaluate skeletal muscle mass and calculated based on lean mass of the limbs(kg)/body weight(kg) × 100%. Skeletal muscle mass reduction was defined as a RSMI of 1-2 standard deviations (SD) below of healthy adults aged 30-49 years old. Considering the quartile groups of the TyG index, the subjects were assigned to 4 groups: Q1 (less than or equal to 8.171), Q2 (from 8.172 to 8.569), Q3 (from 8.570 to 8.992), and Q4 (greater than or equal to 8.993). Results With TyG index increased, RSMI levels significantly reduced(P < .001). Spearman's correlation analysis showed that the TyG index was negatively correlated with RSMI in males (r = -0.320) and females (r = -0.240). The TyG index was positively correlated with body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P < .05). Besides, binary logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of developing reduced skeletal muscle mass in the group Q4 was 2.131 (95%CI:1.118-4.064) in males; and was 2.472 (95%CI:1.581-3.867) in females compared to the Q1 group. Conclusion TyG index was negatively correlated with relative skeletal muscle index, and a higher TyG index was associated with the development of reduced skeletal muscle mass independently of other influencing factors. Therefore, the TyG index promises to be a predictor of skeletal muscle mass loss.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frailty is a dynamic geriatric condition. Limited studies have examined the association of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and its related indicators [TyG index, triglyceride glucose-waist to height ratio (TyG-WHtR), triglyceride glucose-waist circumference (TyG-WC), and triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI)] with frailty, and the potential links among them remain unclear. On the basis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), this study investigated the potential relationships of the TyG index and its related indices with frailty. METHODS This research included 7,965 participants from NHANES 2003-2018. The relationship of the TyG index and its related indices with frailty was investigated with binary logistic regression analyses, restricted cubic spline (RCS), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Potential influences were further investigated through stratified analyses and interaction tests. RESULTS The prevalence of frailty in the participants of this study was 25.59%, with a average frailty index of 0.16 (0.00). In the three regression analysis models, the continuous TyG index and its associated indices were positively associated with frailty. In addition, quartiles of TyG, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR, and TyG-BMI were significantly associated with increased frailty prevalence in the fully adjusted models (TyG Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.19, 2.09, P = 0.002; TyG-WC Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 2.40, 95% CI: 1.90, 3.04, P < 0.001; TyG-WHtR Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 2.26, 95% CI: 1.82, 2.81, P < 0.001; TyG- BMI Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 2.16, 95% CI: 1.76, 2.64, P < 0.001). According to RCS analysis, TyG, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR, and TyG-BMI were linearly and positively associated with frailty. ROC curves revealed that TyG-WHtR (AUC: 0.654) had greater diagnostic value for frailty than TyG (AUC: 0.604), TyG-BMI (AUC: 0.621), and TyG-WC (AUC: 0.629). All of the stratified analyses and interaction tests showed similar results. CONCLUSIONS Elevated TyG and its associaed indices are associated with an increased prevalence of frailty. Reasonable control of blood glucose and blood lipids, and avoidance of obesity, may aid in reducing the occurrence of frailty in middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frailty is an age-related geriatric syndrome that leads to a series of clinically negative events. A better understanding of the factors associated with frailty assists in preventing its progression. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a simple alternative index of insulin resistance, has not yet been proven to be associated with frailty. The present study aimed to investigate the association between the TyG index and its trajectory with frailty from a cross-sectional, retrospective and prospective level based on an ongoing cohort. METHODS This longitudinal study included 1,866 older residents from the "Fujian prospective aging cohort" (ChiCTR 2,000,032,949). The TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) ╳ fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2] and group-based trajectory model (GBTM) was applied to identify the trajectory of TyG index. The association between different trajectory groups of TyG index with frailty risk were estimated using multinomial logistic regression analysis. RESULTS In the cross-sectional analysis, the highest quartile of the TyG index was associated with an increased risk of frailty (TyG index Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 1.50, 95% CI 1.00-2.25, P = 0.048). Restricted cubic splines demonstrated an increasing trend for TyG index and frailty risk. During a follow-up of ten years, three distinct trajectories of the TyG index were identified: low-stable (n = 697, 38.3%), moderate-stable (n = 910, 50.0%) and high-stable (n = 214, 11.7%). Compared with those in the stable-low group of TyG index trajectory, the ORs (95% CI) of prefrailty and frailty risk were 1.79 (95% CI 1.11-2.88) and 2.17 (95% CI 1.01-3.88) for the high-stable group, respectively (P = 0.017 and P = 0.038). In the subgroup analysis, the association of the high-stable trajectory of TyG and frailty status were only observed in subjects with BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2. Prospectively, the highest quartile of the TyG index was associated with a 2.09-fold significantly increased risk of one-year ADL/IADL decline (P = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS The present study suggests a potential role for a high and sustainable level of TyG index in the risk of frailty. The trajectories of the TyG index can help to identify older individuals at a higher risk of frailty who deserve primitive preventive and therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
Objective The relationship between body composition and insulin resistance (IR) is controversial. This study aimed to thoroughly examine the correlation between adipose tissue, lean body mass, and IR as evaluated by the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA-IR). Methods In this cross-sectional study, we utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2011 and 2018. Our study included 4981 subjects, and we employed multiple linear regression, smoothed curve fitting, threshold, and saturation effect analysis to investigate the relationship between lean body mass, visceral fat mass, and IR. Also, we used the lean body mass to visceral fat ratio (Log LM/VFM) as a proxy variable to analyze its association with IR alone. Results The study discovered a negative link between lean body mass and IR, but the visceral fat mass was positively correlated after correcting for covariates. A negative correlation was observed when the alternative variable Log LM/VFM was analyzed separately for its association with IR. This association was present regardless of whether the exposure variables were analyzed as continuous or categorical. The data analysis revealed a nonlinear relationship between Log LM/VFM and IR, as evidenced by the generalized additive model. In addition, a threshold effect with a critical value of 1.80 and a saturation effect with a critical point of 2.5 were also observed. Further subgroup analysis for sex, age, BMI, active levels, hypertension, and diabetes showed considerable robustness between the relationship of Log LM/VFM and IR. Conclusion Maintaining a proper ratio of lean body mass and visceral fat is beneficial for decreasing IR.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Insulin resistance is a well-established contributor to inflammation; however, the specific association between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, a biomarker reflecting insulin resistance, and arthritis remains unexplored. As a result, the main aim of this study was to examine the correlation between the TyG index and arthritis. METHODS This observational study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which was conducted between 2007 and 2018. To investigate the relationship between the TyG index and arthritis, various statistical analyses were employed, including weighted multivariable logistic regression analysis, subgroup analysis, curve fit analysis, and threshold effect analysis. RESULTS In total, 14,817 patients were enrolled in the trial, with 4,191 individuals (28.29%) diagnosed with arthritis. An increased risk of arthritis was found to be significantly correlated with higher TyG index values (odds ratio OR = 1.15, 95% confidence interval CI: 1.07-1.23), according to the results of multivariable logistic regression analysis after full adjustment. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests further indicated that the TyG index exhibited an additive effect when combined with other established risk factors, including age (OR = 1.29; 95% CI: 1.17-1.41), body mass index (BMI) (OR = 1.43; 95% CI: 1.24-1.69), and diabetes (OR = 1.20; 95% CI: 1.11-1.31). Additionally, curve fit analysis and threshold effect analysis demonstrated a nonlinear relationship with a breakpoint identified at 8.08 µmol/L. CONCLUSION The TyG index was positively correlated with arthritis in adults under 60 years of age in the United States who had normal weight and no diabetes. Further large-scale prospective studies are warranted for a comprehensive analysis of the role of the TyG index in arthritis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, an indicator of insulin resistance, is often associated with adverse outcomes in various cardiovascular diseases, while hypertension is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. As the loss of muscle mass in people with hypertension is poorly understood, the current study aimed to explore the relationship between TyG index and muscle mass in hypertensive population. METHODS We analyzed data from hypertensive adult participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2018. The TyG index and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) were calculated and the relationship between the two was evaluated using multivariable linear regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression models. RESULTS A total of 1633 participants in the dataset were included for the final analysis. In the multivariable regression analysis, the adjusted β of SMI with a 95% confidence interval (CI) for the highest TyG index quartile was - 5.27 (- 9.79 to - 0.75), compared with the lowest quartile. A negative linear relationship between TyG index and SMI was plotted by RCS regression (nonlinear P = 0.128). Stratified models of non-smoking women of different ages also demonstrated that SMI decreased as TyG index increased (all P for trend < 0.05). CONCLUSION This linear and negative correlation between TyG index and SMI in hypertensive patients suggests that insulin resistance adversely affects muscle mass.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). Insulin resistance (IR) is the main cause of the high prevalence of AF in NAFLD patients. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) is a novel IR-related indicator implicated in the incidence and severity of NAFLD. However, the role of TyG in determining the risk for AF in patients with NAFLD remains unclear. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 912 patients diagnosed with NAFLD via ultrasonography. These patients were divided into two groups: (1) NAFLD+ AF and (2) NAFLD+ non-AF. Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was used to assess the correlation between the TyG index and the high risk for AF. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to evaluate the predictive value for the TyG index for AF. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) were used to test the linear correlation between TyG and the risk for AF. RESULTS A total of 204 patients with AF and 708 patients without AF were included in this study. The LASSO logistic regression analysis showed that TyG was an independent risk factor for AF (odds ratio [OR] = 4.84, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.98-7.88, P < 0.001). The RCS showed that the risk for AF increased linearly with TyG over the entire TyG range; this risk was also evident when the patients were analyzed based on sex (P for nonlinear > 0.05). In addition, the correlation between TyG and AF was a consistent finding in subgroup analysis. Furthermore, ROC curve analysis showed that TyG levels combined with traditional risk factors improved the predictive value for atrial fibrillation. CONCLUSION The TyG index is useful in assessing the risk for atrial fibrillation in patients with NAFLD. Patients with NAFLD and increased TyG indices have higher risks for atrial fibrillation. Therefore, TyG indices should be assessed when managing patients with NAFLD.

BACKGROUND Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an inherited metabolic disorder with a high level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the worse prognosis. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, an emerging tool to reflect insulin resistance (IR), is positively associated with a higher risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in healthy individuals, but the value of TyG index has never been evaluated in FH patients. This study aimed to determine the association between the TyG index and glucose metabolic indicators, insulin resistance (IR) status, the risk of ASCVD and mortality among FH patients. METHODS Data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018 were utilized. 941 FH individuals with TyG index information were included and categorized into three groups: < 8.5, 8.5-9.0, and > 9.0. Spearman correlation analysis was used to test the association of TyG index and various established glucose metabolism-related indicators. Logistic and Cox regression analysis were used to assess the association of TyG index with ASCVD and mortality. The possible nonlinear relationships between TyG index and the all-cause or cardiovascular death were further evaluated on a continuous scale with restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves. RESULTS TyG index was positively associated with fasting glucose, HbA1c, fasting insulin and the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index (all p < 0.001). The risk of ASCVD increased by 74% with every 1 unit increase of TyG index (95%CI: 1.15-2.63, p = 0.01). During the median 114-month follow-up, 151 all-cause death and 57 cardiovascular death were recorded. Strong U/J-shaped relations were observed according to the RCS results (p = 0.0083 and 0.0046 for all-cause and cardiovascular death). A higher TyG index was independently associated with both all-cause death and cardiovascular death. Results remained similar among FH patients with IR (HOMA-IR ≥ 2.69). Moreover, addition of TyG index showed helpful discrimination of both survival from all-cause death and cardiovascular death (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION TyG index was applicable to reflect glucose metabolism status in FH adults, and a high TyG index was an independent risk factor of both ASCVD and mortality.

Abstract
Objective Sarcopenia is a common complication in patients with end-stage kidney disease. Insulin resistance is present in non-diabetic patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and is an important factor leading to sarcopenia. The triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index, a reliable indicator for evaluating insulin resistance, is widely used in clinical practice. The present study investigated the association between the TyG index and sarcopenia in non-diabetic patients undergoing MHD. Methods Relevant clinical data of non-diabetic patients undergoing MHD at our center were collected. The TyG index was calculated using the following formula: ln(fasting triglycerides(mg/dL)×fasting blood glucose(mg/dL)/2). Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations. The receiver-operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the predictive value of the TyG index in sarcopenia. Results Of the 142 patients undergoing MHD who were included, 75 (52.82%) were men, the mean age was 54.05 ± 13.97 years, and 40 (28.17%) patients satisfied the diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia. The TyG index of participants with sarcopenia was higher compared with those without sarcopenia (8.83 ± 0.45 vs. 8.49 ± 0.50, p < 0.001). The prevalence of sarcopenia increased with increasing TyG index tertile (T1, 8.51%; T2, 31.91%; T3, 43.75%; p = 0.001). Logistic regression analysis indicated that the TyG index was an independent risk factor for sarcopenia (odds ratio, 4.21 [95% confidence interval, 1.85–9.59], p = 0.001). Conclusion A higher TyG index was associated with an increased risk of sarcopenia in non-diabetic patients undergoing MHD; it may be used as a novel marker to reflect the presence of sarcopenia.

Abstract
Background Insulin resistance (IR), endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, and thrombosis are believed involved in coronary heart disease (CHD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a new IR indicator, is correlated with NAFLD occurrence and severity, but its relationship with CHD risk remains unclear. This study investigated the correlation between TyG index and CHD risk among NAFLD patients. Methods This cross-sectional study included 424 patients with NAFLD and chest pain in the Department of Cardiology, The Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, from January 2021 to December 2021. The TyG index was calculated and coronary angiography performed. All individuals were divided into NAFLD + CHD and NAFLD groups and then by TyG index level. The t-test, Mann–Whitney U-test, or one-way analysis of variance compared differences in continuous variables, while the chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test compared differences in categorical variables. Logistic regression analysis determined the independent protective or hazardous factors of NAFLD with CHD. The receiver operating characteristic curve evaluated the ability of different TyG index rule-in thresholds to predict CHD. The relationship between Gensini score and TyG index was evaluated using linear correlation and multiple linear regression. Results CHD was detected in 255 of 424 patients. Compared to NAFLD group, multivariate logistic regression showed that TyG index was a risk factor for CHD among NAFLD patients after adjustment for age, sex, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus with the highest odds ratio (OR, 2.519; 95% CI, 1.559–4.069; P < 0.001). TG, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, FBG and TYG–body mass index were also risk factors for CHD among NAFLD patients. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol level was a protective factor for CHD events in patients with NAFLD. In an in-depth analysis, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that each 1-unit increase in TyG index was associated with a 2.06-fold increased risk of CHD (OR, 2.06; 95% CI, 1.16–3.65; P = 0.013). The multifactor linear regression analysis showed each 0.1-unit increase in TyG in the NAFLD-CHD group was associated with a 2.44 increase in Gensini score (β = 2.44; 95% CI, 0.97–3.91; P = 0.002). Conclusions The TyG index was positively correlated with CHD risk in NAFLD patients and reflected coronary atherosclerosis severity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index was recently reported to be associated with an increased risk of the development and recurrence of cardiovascular events, and atherosclerosis is a main speculative mechanism. However, data on the relationship between TyG index and atherosclerosis, especially in the setting of ischemic stroke, is rare. We aimed to explore the association between TyG index and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with ischemic stroke. METHODS A total of 1523 ischemic stroke patients with TyG index and carotid artery imaging data were enrolled in this analysis. The TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Carotid atherosclerosis was measured by common carotid artery intima-media thickness (cIMT), and abnormal cIMT was defined as a mean cIMT and maximum cIMT value ≥ 1 mm. Multivariable logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline models were used to assess the relationships between TyG index and abnormal cIMT. Risk reclassification and calibration of models with TyG index were analyzed. RESULTS The multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (95% CIs) in quartile 4 versus quartile 1 of TyG index were 1.56 (1.06-2.28) for abnormal mean cIMT and 1.46 (1.02-2.08) for abnormal maximum cIMT, respectively. There were linear relationships between TyG index and abnormal mean cIMT (P for linearity = 0.005) and abnormal maximum cIMT (P for linearity = 0.027). In addition, the TyG index provided incremental predictive capacity beyond established risk factors, shown by an increase in net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS A higher TyG index was associated with carotid atherosclerosis measured by cIMT in patients with ischemic stroke, suggesting that TyG could be a promising atherosclerotic marker.
