Abstract
Acetylcholine (ACh) plays a pivotal role as a neurotransmitter, influencing nerve cell communication and overall nervous system health. Imbalances in ACh levels are linked to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. This study focused on developing electrochemical sensors for ACh detection, utilizing graphene oxide (GO) and a composite of reduced graphene oxide and zinc oxide (rGO/ZnO). The synthesis involved modified Hummers' and hydrothermal methods, unveiling the formation of rGO through deoxygenation and the integration of nano-sized ZnO particles onto rGO, as demonstrated by XPS and TEM. EIS analysis also revealed the enhancement of electron transfer efficiency in rGO/ZnO. Cyclic voltammograms of the electrode, comprising the rGO/ZnO composite in ACh solutions, demonstrated prominent oxidation and reduction reactions. Notably, the composite exhibited promise for ACh detection due to its sensitivity, low detection threshold, reusability, and selectivity against interfering compounds, specifically glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid. The unique properties of rGO, such as high specific surface area and electron mobility, coupled with ZnO's stability and catalytic efficiency, contributed to the composite's potential in electrochemical sensor applications. This research, emphasizing the synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of the rGO/ZnO composite, established itself as a reliable platform for detecting the acetylcholine neurotransmitter.

Abstract
Gold nanomaterials have been widely explored in electrochemical sensors due to their high catalytic property and good stability in multi-medium. In this paper, the reproducibility of the signal among batches of gold nanorods (AuNRs)-modified electrodes was investigated to improve the data stabilization and repeatability. Ordered and random self-assembled AuNRs-modified electrodes were used as electrochemical sensors for the simultaneous determination of dopamine (DA) and topotecan (TPC), with the aim of obtaining an improved signal stability in batches of electrodes and realizing the simultaneous determination of both substances. The morphology and structure of the assemblies were analyzed and characterized by UV-Vis spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Electrochemical studies showed that the ordered AuNRs/ITO electrodes have excellent signal reproducibility among several individuals due to the homogeneous mass transfer in the ordered arrangement of the AuNRs. Under the optimized conditions, the simultaneous detection results of DA and TPC showed good linearity in the ranges 1.75-45 μM and 1.5-40 μM, and the detection limits of DA and TPC were 0.06 μM and 0.17 μM, respectively. The results showed that the prepared ordered AuNR/ITO electrode had high sensitivity, long-term stability, and reproducibility for the simultaneous determination of DA and TPC, and it was expected to be applicable for real sample testing.

Abstract
Abnormal levels of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) in the human body are valuable indicators for monitoring human health, as they are associated with certain diseases. Therefore, it is crucial to develop sensitive and simultaneous analytical techniques for DA and UA in diagnosing the related diseases. Herein, the Co- and Mo- doped carbon nanofibers (Co, Mo@CNFs) electrochemical biosensor was developed successfully for the sensitive and accurate simultaneous detection of DA and UA. A straightforward electrospinning technique followed by a carbonization process was employed for the synthesis of Co, Mo@CNFs, and the encapsulation of Co and Mo within CNFs served to not only prevent nanoparticle agglomeration, thus providing more active sites, but also to facilitate rapid electron transfer. By incorporating Co and Mo into CNFs, the electrocatalytic activity of the modified electrode was greatly improved due to the beneficial conductivity and synergistic effects of transition metals. This enhancement effectively addressed issues such as the overlapping anodic peaks that occur when DA and UA are oxidized concurrently. Due to the mentioned synergistic contributions, the modified Co, Mo@CNFs electrode (Co, Mo@CNFs/GCE) achieved remarkable sensitivity for the simultaneous detection of DA and UA, while also exhibiting strong anti-interference ability. The detection limits for DA and UA were 2.35 nmol L-1 and 0.16 μmol L-1, respectively. We applied the developed Co, Mo@CNFs/GCE electrochemical biosensor to detect DA and UA in 50-fold diluted serum and urine samples. The results affirm the biosensor's reliability and precision. Moreover, the developed Co, Mo@CNFs/GCE biosensor demonstrated excellent performance in simultaneously detecting DA and UA, providing an efficient and dependable detection approach for clinical diagnosis and bioanalysis.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) are essential for many physiological processes in the human body. Abnormal levels of DA and UA can lead to multiple diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and gout. In this work, a three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide-MXene (3D rGO-Ti3C2) composite electrode was prepared using a simple one-step hydrothermal reduction process, which could separate the oxidation potentials of DA and UA, enabling the simultaneous detection of DA and UA. The 3D rGO-Ti3C2 electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards both DA and UA. In 0.01 M PBS solution, the linear range of DA was 0.5-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.74 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.056 µM (S/N = 3), while the linear range of UA was 0.5-60 µM and 80-450 µM, with sensitivity of 2.96 and 0.81 µA·µM-1·cm-2, respectively, and a detection limit of 0.086 µM (S/N = 3). In 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) solution, the linear range of DA was 0.5-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.41 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.091 µM (S/N = 3). The linear range of UA was 2-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.11 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.6 µM (S/N = 3). The modified electrode exhibited advantages such as high sensitivity, a strong anti-interference capability, and good repeatability. Furthermore, the modified electrode was successfully used for DA measurement in vivo. This could present a simple reliable route for neurotransmitter detection in neuroscience.

Abstract
ZnO-CeO2 hollow nanospheres have been successfully synthesized via the hard templating method, in which CeO2 is used as the support skeleton to avoid ZnO agglomeration. The synthesized ZnO-CeO2 hollow nanospheres possess a large electrochemically active area and high electron transfer owing to the high specific surface area and synergistic effect of ZnO and CeO2. Due to the above advantages, the resulting ZnO-CeO2 hollow spheres display high sensitivities of 1122.86 μA mM-1 cm-2 and 908.53 μA mM-1 cm-2 under a neutral environment for the selective detection of dopamine and uric acid. The constructed electrochemical sensor shows excellent selectivity, stability and recovery for the selective analysis of dopamine and uric acid in actual samples. This study provides a valuable strategy for the synthesis of ZnO-CeO2 hollow nanospheres via the hard templating method as electrocatalysts for the selective detection of dopamine and uric acid.

Abstract
The detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) is not only of great significance in the areas of biomedicine and neurochemistry but also helpful in disease diagnosis and pathology research. Due to their diverse structures, designability, and large specific surface areas, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently caught considerable attention in the electrochemical field. Herein, a family of heterometallic MOFs with amino modification, MIL-125(Ti-Al)-xNH2 (x = 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), were synthesized and employed as electrochemical sensors for the detection of AA, DA, and UA. Among them, MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH2 exhibited the most promising electrochemical behavior with 40% doping of carbon black in 0.1 M PBS (pH = 7.10), which displayed individual detection performance with wide linear detection ranges (1.0-6.5 mM for AA, 5-100 μM for DA and 5-120 μM for UA) and low limits of detection (0.215 mM for AA, 0.086 μM for DA, and 0.876 μM for UA, S/N = 3). Furthermore, the as-prepared MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH2/GCE provided a promising platform for future application in real sample analysis, owing to its excellent anti-interference performance and good stability.

Abstract
Synthetic pigment Ponceau 4 R is a commonly used additive in the process of various foods. Due to its potential toxicity to humans, realizing high sensitivity and rapid detection of Ponceau 4 R is extremely important. In this study, we synthesized a novel dual-network magnetic conductive hydrogel (MCHG) via a simple one-pot low temperature stirring method. In MCHG, cationic guar gum (CGG) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) formed a primary three-dimensional network cross-linked by N, N-methylene bisacrylamide. A second network was formed in MCHG by CGG, β-CD and magnetite@carboxylate-terminated carbon nanotubes (Fe3O4@COOH-MWCNTs) through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. Fe3O4@COOH-MWCNTs enhanced cross-linking in the MCHG hydrogel, whilst also boosting the equilibrium adsorption capacity of Ponceau 4 R (61.8 mg g-1), electrical conductivity and electrocatalytic performance. Application of MCHG to a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) created a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for the detection of Ponceau 4 R. Under optimized testing conditions, the sensor offered a very wide linear range (0.01-200.0 μM) and a low limit of detection (1.8 nM) for Ponceau 4 R. When the sensor was applied to the detection of Ponceau 4 R in spiked honey and liqueur samples, excellent recoveries were achieved (88.2%-107.0%). Furthermore, analyses of commercial biscuit and candy samples using the MCHG/GCE sensor and a national standard ultraviolet spectrophotometry method afforded identical results. Results demonstrate that multifunctional hydrogels show great promise as signal amplification agents in electrochemical detection of target compounds in foods.

Abstract
A rapid, reliable, and user-friendly electrochemical sensor was developed for the detection of xanthine (Xn), an important biomarker of food quality. The developed sensor is based on a nanocomposite comprised of molybdenum disulfide-molybdenum trioxide (MoS2/MoO3) and synthesized using a single-pot hydrothermal method. Structural analysis of the MoS2/MoO3 nanocomposite was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy, while its compositional properties were evaluated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Morphological features were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 offers advantages such as a high surface-to-volume ratio, biocompatibility, and strong light-matter interaction, whereas MoO3 serves as an effective electron transfer mediator and exhibits excellent stability in aqueous environments. The enzymatic biosensor derived from this nanocomposite demonstrates remarkable cyclic stability and a low limit of detection of 64 nM. It enables rapid, reproducible, specific, and reproducible detection over 10 cycles while maintaining a shelf life of more than 5 weeks. These findings highlight the potential of our proposed approach for the development of early detection devices for Xn.

Abstract
Ascorbic acid (AA) is involved in many physiological activities of the body and plays an important role in maintaining and promoting human health. It is also present in many natural and artificial foods. Therefore, the development of highly sensitive and accurate AA sensors is highly desirable for human health monitoring, as well as other commercial application fields. Herein, an ultrasensitive and selective electrochemical sensor based on an aptamer was developed for the determination of AA for the first time. The aptasensor was fabricated by modifying a composite made of polyaniline (PANI) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on a glassy carbon electrode. The morphologies and electrochemical properties of the resulting electrodes were characterized by various analytical methods. The results indicated relatively good electrical conduction properties of PANI for accelerated electron transfer. The modification with AuNPs provided signal amplification, suitable for applications as novel platforms for the sensitive sensing of AA. Under optimized conditions, the proposed aptasensor displayed a wide linear response toward the detection of AA from 1.0 to 1.0 × 105 ng L-1 coupled with a low detection limit of 0.10 ng L-1. The sensor also exhibited excellent selectivity and high stability, with at least 2000-fold higher sensitivity than similar previously reported methods. Importantly, the aptasensor exhibited promising properties for the determination of AA in real fruits, vegetables, and infant milk powder, thereby showing potential for food analysis.

Abstract
Ferroptosis is a new form of iron-dependent programmed cell death discovered in recent years, which is caused by the accumulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recent studies have shown that cellular ferroptosis is closely related to tumor progression, and the induction of ferroptosis is a new means to inhibit tumor growth. Biocompatible Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs), rich in Fe2+ and Fe3+, act as a supplier of iron ions, which not only promote ROS production but also participate in iron metabolism, thus affecting cellular ferroptosis. In addition, Fe3O4-NPs combine with other techniques such as photodynamic therapy (PDT); heat stress and sonodynamic therapy (SDT) can further induce cellular ferroptosis effects, which then enhance the antitumor effects. In this paper, we present the research progress and the mechanism of Fe3O4-NPs to induce ferroptosis in tumor cells from the perspective of related genes and chemotherapeutic drugs, as well as PDT, heat stress, and SDT techniques.

Abstract
Hydroxyapatite-derived eggshell biowaste (Hap-Esb) has been fabricated and developed for the electrochemical detection of uric acid (UA). The physicochemical characteristics of the Hap-Esb and modified electrodes were evaluated using a scanning electron microscope and X-ray Diffraction analysis. Utilized as UA sensors, the electrochemical behavior of modified electrodes (Hap-Esb/ZnONPs/ACE) was assessed using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The superior peak current response observed for the oxidation of UA at Hap-Esb/ZnONPs/ACE, which was 13 times higher than that of the Hap-Esb/activated carbon electrode (Hap-Esb/ACE) is attributed to the simple immobilization of Hap-Esb on zinc oxide nanoparticle-modified ACE. The UA sensor exhibited a linear range at 0.01 to 1 μM, low detection limit (0.0086 μM), and excellent stability, which surpass the existing Hap-based electrodes reported in the literature. The facile UA sensor subsequently realized is also advantaged by its simplicity, repeatability, reproducibility, and low cost, applicable for real sample analysis (human urine sample).

Abstract
Effective and real-time detection of lactate (LA) content in human sweat has attracted considerable attention from researchers. In this work, a novel electrochemical paper-based analysis device (ePAD) was developed for the non-invasive detection of LA in sweat. The electrocatalytic properties of AuNP/Cu-TCPP(Fe) hybrid nanosheets, which were prepared by an optimised synthetic method, were studied by CV and EIS electrochemical methods for the first time and the working electrode can be fabricated using a drip coating method. The lactate sensor was optimised and validated for usability, adoptability and interpretability. To the best of our knowledge, this was the fastest, lowest detection line and widest linear range method reported to date for the detection of lactate. It achieved the detection limit of 0.91 pM and a linear range from 0.013 nM to 100 mM. The dual catalytic effects of the hybrid NSs shortened the detection time by nearly two times and enhanced the sensitivity approximately two times, an accuracy unmatched until now. Furthermore, this sensor was employed for LA analysis and validated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The ePAD shows superior biocompatibility, accuracy, and high sensitivity and can be easily manufactured. Hence, it is applicable for the long-term monitoring of sweat LA concentrations in point-of-care testing, athletic testing of athletes and military personnel and other subjects in different extreme environments.

Abstract
In this work, a cyclic voltammetry analysis for the detection of Ascorbic Acid (AA) based on a carbon-clay paste electrode modified with titanium dioxide (CPEA/TiO2) is presented. The electrochemical sensor was prepared using clay and carbon graphite, mixed with TiO2 to investigate the electrode behavior towards the detection of AA. Comprehensive characterization approaches including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Selected area electron diffraction (SAED), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) were carried out on different samples. The results indicated that, the electrode has been effectively modified, while the electrochemical parameters of AA on CPEA/TiO2/UV such as the charge transfer coefficient (α a ), number of electrons (n) transferred and standard potential were calculated. CPEA/TiO2/UV exhibit better photoactivity and also higher electronic conductivity under light radiation (100 W). The linear range for AA was determined between 0.150μM and 0.850 μM with the straight-line equation equivalent to I p a ( μ A ) = 2.244 [ A A ] + 1.234 (n = 8, R2 = 0.993). The limit of detection was 0.732 μM (3σ) and limit of quantification was 2.440 μM. For the analytical applications, pharmaceutical tablets such as Chloroquine phosphate, Azithromycin and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate were performed. In addition, interference study in the analytical application was performed, and it was found that the electroanalytical method used can be well adopted for simultaneous electrochemical detection of AA and Azithromycin.

Abstract
Nanomaterials by virtue of their small size and enhanced surface area, present unique physicochemical properties that enjoy widespread applications in bioengineering, biomedicine, biotechnology, disease diagnosis, and therapy. In recent years, graphene and its derivatives have attracted a great deal of attention in various applications, including photovoltaics, electronics, energy storage, catalysis, sensing, and biotechnology owing to their exceptional structural, optical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical. Graphene is a two-dimensional sheet of sp2 hybridized carbon atoms of atomic thickness, which are arranged in a honeycomb crystal lattice structure. Graphene derivatives are graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), which are highly oxidized and less oxidized forms of graphene, respectively. Another form of graphene is graphene quantum dots (GQDs), having a size of less than 20 nm. Contemporary graphene research focuses on using graphene nanomaterials for biomedical purposes as they have a large surface area for loading biomolecules and medicine and offer the potential for the conjugation of fluorescent dyes or quantum dots for bioimaging. The present review begins with the synthesis, purification, structure, and properties of graphene nanomaterials. Then, we focussed on the biomedical application of graphene nanomaterials with special emphasis on drug delivery, bioimaging, biosensing, tissue engineering, gene delivery, and chemotherapy. The implications of graphene nanomaterials on human health and the environment have also been summarized due to their exposure to their biomedical applications. This review is anticipated to offer useful existing understanding and inspire new concepts to advance secure and effective graphene nanomaterials-based biomedical devices.

Abstract
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is an antiretroviral medication with significant curative effects, so its quantitative detection is important for human health. At present, there are few studies on the detection of TDF by electrochemical sensors. This work can be a supplement to the electrochemical detection of TDF. Moreover, bare electrodes are susceptible to pollution, and have high overvoltage and low sensitivity, so it is crucial to find a suitable electrode material. In this work, zirconium oxide (ZrO2) that has a certain selectivity to phosphoric acid groups was synthesized by a hydrothermal method with zirconyl chloride octahydrate as the precursor. A composite modified glassy carbon electrode for zirconium oxide-chitosan-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE) was used for the first time to detect the TDF, and achieved rapid, sensitive detection of TDF with a detection limit of sub-micron content. The ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs composite was created using sonication of a mixture of ZrO2 and CS-MWCNTs solution. The composite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Electrochemical analysis was performed using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Compared with single-material electrodes, the ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE significantly improves the electrochemical sensing of TDF due to the synergistic effect of the composite. Under optimal conditions, the proposed method has achieved good results in linear range (0.3~30 μM; 30~100 μM) and detection limit (0.0625 μM). Moreover, the sensor has the merits of simple preparation, good reproducibility and good repeatability. The ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE has been applied to the determination of TDF in serum and urine, and it may be helpful for potential applications of other substances with similar structures.

Abstract
The anode-free design is a promising strategy to increase the energy density of aqueous Zn metal batteries (AZMBs). However, the scarcity of Zn-rich cathodes and the rapid loss of limited Zn greatly hinder their commercial applications. To address these issues, a novel anode-free Zn-iodine battery (AFZIB) was designed via a simple, low-cost and scalable approach. Iodine plays bifunctional roles in improving the AFZIB overall performance: enabling high-performance Zn-rich cathode and modulating Zn deposition behavior. On the cathode side, the ZnI2 serves as Zn-rich cathode material. The graphene/polyvinyl pyrrolidone heterostructure was employed as an efficient host for ZnI2 to enhance electron conductivity and suppress the shuttle effect of iodine species. On the anode side, trace I3- additive in the electrolyte creates surface reconstruction on the commercial Cu foil. The in situ formed zincophilic Cu nanocluster allows ultralow-overpotential and uniform Zn deposition and superior reversibility (average coulombic efficiency > 99.91% over 7,000 cycles). Based on such a configuration, AFZIB exhibits significantly increased energy density (162 Wh kg-1) and durable cycle stability (63.8% capacity retention after 200 cycles) under practical application conditions. Considering the low cost and simple preparation methods of the electrode materials, this work paves the way for the practical application of AZMBs.

Abstract
The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) has heightened awareness of the importance of quick and easy testing. The convenience, speed, and timely results from point-of-care testing (POCT) in all vitro diagnostic devices has drawn the strong interest of researchers. However, there are still many challenges in the development of POCT devices, such as the pretreatment of samples, detection sensitivity, specificity, and so on. It is anticipated that the unique properties of nanomaterials, e.g., their magnetic, optical, thermal, and electrically conductive features, will address the deficiencies that currently exist in POCT devices. In this review, we mainly analyze the work processes of POCT devices, especially in nucleic acid detection, and summarize how novel nanomaterials used in various aspects of POCT products can improve performance, with the ultimate aims of offering new ideas for the application of nanomaterials and the overall development of POCT devices.

Abstract
Sensing trace amounts of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) as a harmful substance to organisms even in small quantities is of great importance. The present study includes a sensitive and selective electrochemical sensor for detecting 4-NP in natural water samples using formamide-converted nitrogen-carbon materials (shortened to f-NC) as a new material for electrode modification. The structure and morphology of the f-NC were set apart by SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, FTIR, Raman, and the electrochemical performance of the f-NC were set apart by CV, EIS and CC. We studied the electrochemical behaviour of 4-NP on the glassy carbon electrode modified with f-NC before and after pyrolysis treatment (denoted as f-NC1/GCE and f-NC2/GCE). In 0.2 M of H2SO4 solution, the f-NC2/GCE has an apparent electrocatalytic activity to reduce 4-NP. Under the optimal conditions, the reduction peak current of 4-NP varies linearly, with its concentration in the range of 0.2 to 100 mM, and the detection limit obtained as 0.02 mM (S/N = 3). In addition, the electrochemical sensor has high selectivity, and the stability is quite good. The preparation and application of the sensor to detect 4-NP in water samples produced satisfactory results, which provides a new method for the simple, sensitive and quantitative detection of 4-NP.

Abstract
Adefovir (ADV) is an anti-retroviral drug, which can be used to treat acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and chronic hepatitis B (CHB), so its quantitative analysis is of great significance. In this work, zirconium molybdate (ZrMo2O8) was synthesized by a wet chemical method, and a composite with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was made. ZrMo2O8-MWCNTs composite was dropped onto the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to prepare ZrMo2O8-MWCNTs/GCE, and ZrMo2O8-MWCNTs/GCE was used in the electrochemical detection of ADV for the first time. The preparation method is fast and simple. The materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). It was electrochemically analysed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Compared with single-material modified electrodes, ZrMo2O8-MWCNTs/GCE showed a vastly improved electrochemical response to ADV. Moreover, the sensor complements the study of the electrochemical detection of ADV. Under optimal conditions, the proposed electrochemical method showed a wide linear range (from 1 to 100 μM) and a low detection limit (0.253 μM). It was successfully tested in serum and urine. In addition, the sensor has the advantages of a simple preparation, fast response, good reproducibility and repeatability. It may be helpful in the potential applications of other substances with similar structures.

Abstract
The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), due to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), has created an unprecedented threat to the global health system, especially in resource-limited areas. This challenge shines a spotlight on the urgent need for a point-of-care (POC) quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) test for sensitive and rapid diagnosis of viral infections. In a POC system, a closed, single-use, microfluidic cartridge is commonly utilized for integration of nucleic acid preparation, PCR amplification and florescence detection. But, most current cartridge systems often involve complicated nucleic acid extraction via active pumping that relies on cumbersome external hardware, causing increases in system complexity and cost. In this work, we demonstrate a gravity-driven cartridge design for an integrated viral RNA/DNA diagnostic test that does not require auxiliary hardware for fluid pumping due to adopted extraction-free amplification. This microfluidic cartridge only contains two reaction chambers for nucleic acid lysis and amplification respectively, enabling a fast qPCR test in less than 30 min. This gravity-driven pumping strategy can help simplify and minimize the microfluidic cartridge, thus enabling high-throughput (up to 12 test cartridges per test) molecular detection via a small cartridge readout system. Thus, this work addresses the scalability limitation of POC molecular testing and can be run in any settings. We verified the analytical sensitivity and specificity of the cartridge testing for respiratory pathogens and sexually transmitted diseases using SARS-CoV-2, influenza A/B RNA samples, and human papillomavirus 16/18 DNA samples. Our cartridge system exhibited a comparable detection performance to the current gold standard qPCR instrument ABI 7500. Moreover, our system showed very high diagnostic accuracy for viral RNA/DNA detection that was well validated by ROC curve analysis. The sample-to-answer molecular testing system reported in this work has the advantages of simplicity, rapidity, and low cost, making it highly promising for prevention and control of infectious diseases in poor-resource areas.

Abstract
Inorganic nanomaterials with enzyme-like activity have been attracting much attention due to their low cost, favorable stability, convenient storage, and simple preparation. Herein, Co3O4 nanoplates with a uniform nanostructure were prepared by the thermolysis of cobalt hydroxide at different temperatures, and the influence of the annealing temperature on the performance of the mimetic enzyme also was reported for the first time. The results demonstrated that Co3O4 nanoplates obtained at an annealing temperature of 200 °C possessed strong oxidase activity and efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) without the addition of hydrogen peroxide to generate the blue color product ox-TMB. Once the annealing temperature was increased to 500 °C and 800 °C, the oxidase activity of Co3O4 decreased rapidly, and was even inactivated. This might be attributed to the relatively large specific surface area of Co3O4 annealed at 200 °C. Besides this, based on the TMB-Co3O4 nanoplate system, a colorimetric analysis method was developed to detect dopamine with a limit of 0.82 μmol/L in a linear range from 1.6 μmol/L to 20 μmol/L.

Abstract
Carbon is a popular electrode material for neurotransmitter detection due to its good electrochemical properties, high biocompatibility, and inert chemistry. Traditional carbon electrodes, such as carbon fibers, have smooth surfaces and fixed shapes. However, newer studies customize the shape and nanostructure the surface to enhance electrochemistry for different applications. In this review, we show how changing the structure of carbon electrodes with methods such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD), wet-etching, direct laser writing (DLW), and 3D printing leads to different electrochemical properties. The customized shapes include nanotips, complex 3D structures, porous structures, arrays, and flexible sensors with patterns. Nanostructuring enhances sensitivity and selectivity, depending on the carbon nanomaterial used. Carbon nanoparticle modifications enhance electron transfer kinetics and prevent fouling for neurochemicals that are easily polymerized. Porous electrodes trap analyte momentarily on the scale of an electrochemistry experiment, leading to thin layer electrochemical behavior that enhances secondary peaks from chemical reactions. Similar thin layer cell behavior is observed at cavity carbon nanopipette electrodes. Nanotip electrodes facilitate implantation closer to the synapse with reduced tissue damage. Carbon electrode arrays are used to measure from multiple neurotransmitter release sites simultaneously. Custom-shaped carbon electrodes are enabling new applications in neuroscience, such as distinguishing different catecholamines by secondary peaks, detection of vesicular release in single cells, and multi-region measurements in vivo.

Abstract
Abnormal miR-22 level is related to laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) progression. This study mainly assessed its role in proliferation, invasion and EMT of LSCC and their possible mechanisms of action. HN4 was collected, and corresponding groups were set as; blank group, positive
control group, miR-22 group and MIRNA-22 NC group. Pathway inhibitor group and pathway agonist group were also set. The expressions of miR-22, EMT-related genes, cell proliferation rate, invasion rate, β-catenin and Cyclin D1 were observed. Results revealed that, expressions of
miR-22 and e-cadherin were higher in the blank group and miR-22 NC group, while N-cadherin and Vimentin levels were lower. Moreover, miR-22 and EMT-related genes in the positive control group and miR-22 group were opposite (P <0.05). The proliferation rate and invasion rate of blank
and miR-22 NC groups were also lower, while positive control and miR-22 groups showed different changes (P <0.05). β-catenin and Cyclin D1 expressions in the blank group and miR-22 NC group were increased compared to other two groups. The proliferation rate, invasion
rate, expression of N-cadherin and Vimentin were higher and E-cadherin was lower in blank and pathway agonist group, which was opposite in the pathway inhibitor group (P < 0.05). β-catenin and Cyclin D1 protein levels in blank and pathway agonist groups were higher than
pathway inhibitor group (P < 0.05). A binding region between miR-22 gene sequence and 3′UTR 215-229 sequence of Wnt gene was found and Wnt was found to be the target gene for miR-22. The fluorescence intensity of mutant plasmid was higher than wild-type plasmid (P <0.05).
miR-22 can inhibit LSCC proliferation, invasion and EMT and the main mechanism of action is related to the Wnt signaling pathway. MiR-22 targeted Wnt gene and inhibited Wnt signaling pathway activity, lower key factor beta catenin expression Wnt pathways, thereby inhibiting factor laryngeal
squamous cancer cells proliferation, Cyclin D1 expression, resulting in inhibition of cell proliferation, and EMT process at the same time, reducing the cell invasion ability, inhibiting the growth of laryngeal squamous cancer cells. Eventually, the Wnt pathways or miR-22 all can be used as
targets for laryngeal squamous carcinoma.

Abstract
The focus of this work was to develop a simple electrochemical method for the determination of vitamin C (VitC) by using a specially constructed microelectrode made from pyrolytic graphite sheet (PGS). A procedure for quantifying VitC in a real sample was established. VitC shows a single quasi-reversible reaction. The method was optimized, and analytical determination was performed by using cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry for electroanalytical purposes. The obtained results show a linear response of the PGS electrode in a wide concentrations range. For the lower concentration range, 0.18–7.04 µg L−1, the sensitivity is 11.7 µAcm−2/mgL−1, while for the higher concentration range, 10.6–70.4 µg L−1, the sensitivity is 134 µAcm−2/mgL−1, preserving the linearity of 0.998 and 0.999. The second objective was to determine the effect of the addition of five different types of “green” biowaste on plant growth, VitC content, and antioxidant activity in arugula (Eruca sativa L.) using the developed method. After three weeks of cultivation, small differences in growth and large differences in certain nutritional characteristics were observed. The addition of black coffee makes the soil slightly alkaline and causes a significant increase in VitC content and antioxidant activity.

In Situ Synthesis of a Bi 2Te 3-Nanosheet/Reduced-Graphene-Oxide Nanocomposite for Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Dopamine Sensing. NANOMATERIALS 2022; 12:nano12122009. Abstract
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps cells to transmit pulsed chemicals. Therefore, dopamine detection is crucial from the viewpoint of human health. Dopamine determination is typically achieved via chromatography, fluorescence, electrochemiluminescence, colorimetry, and enzyme-linked methods. However, most of these methods employ specific biological enzymes or involve complex detection processes. Therefore, non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors are attracting attention owing to their high sensitivity, speed, and simplicity. In this study, a simple one-step fabrication of a Bi2Te3-nanosheet/reduced-graphene-oxide (BT/rGO) nanocomposite was achieved using a hydrothermal method to modify electrodes for electrochemical dopamine detection. The combination of the BT nanosheets with the rGO surface was investigated by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry were performed to analyze the electrochemical-dopamine-detection characteristics of the BT/rGO nanocomposite. The BT/rGO-modified electrode exhibited higher catalytic activity for electrocatalytic oxidation of 100 µM dopamine (94.91 µA, 0.24 V) than that of the BT-modified (4.55 µA, 0.26 V), rGO-modified (13.24 µA, 0.23 V), and bare glassy carbon electrode (2.86 µA, 0.35 V); this was attributed to the synergistic effect of the electron transfer promoted by the highly conductive rGO and the large specific surface area/high charge-carrier mobility of the two-dimensional BT nanosheets. The BT/rGO-modified electrode showed a detection limit of 0.06 µM for dopamine in a linear range of 10–1000 µM. Additionally, it exhibited satisfactory reproducibility, stability, selectivity, and acceptable recovery in real samples.

Abstract
Here, we present an optimized protocol for generating a mouse model overexpressing human α-synuclein in dopamine (DA) neurons driven by an adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector and for the examination of the benefit of an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO)-based therapy on DA neurotransmission under Parkinson’s disease (PD)-like conditions. We describe AAV injection, followed by implantation of an osmotic minipump for ASO delivery and a guide cannula for microdialysis to measure DA release. This protocol can be used to evaluate oligonucleotide-based therapies for PD. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Alarcón-Arís et al. (2020). Abstract
Conductive gels are a special class of soft materials. They harness the 3D micro/nanostructures of gels with the electrical and optical properties of semiconductors, producing excellent novel attributes, like the formation of an intricate network of conducting micro/nanostructures that facilitates the easy movement of charge carriers. Conductive gels encompass interesting properties, like adhesion, porosity, swelling, and good mechanical properties compared to those of bulk conducting polymers. The porous structure of the gels allows the easy diffusion of ions and molecules and the swelling nature provides an effective interface between molecular chains and solution phases, whereas good mechanical properties enable their practical applications. Due to these excellent assets, conductive gels are promising candidates for applications like energy conversion and storage, sensors, medical and biodevices, actuators, superhydrophobic coatings, etc. Conductive gels offer promising applications, e.g., as soft sensors, energy storage, and wearable electronics. Hydrogels with ionic species have some potential in this area. However, they suffer from dehydration due to evaporation when exposed to the air which limits their applications and lifespan. In addition to conductive polymers and organic charge transfer complexes, there is another class of organic matter called "conductive gels" that are used in the organic nanoelectronics industry. The main features of this family of organic materials include controllable photoluminescence, use in photon upconversion technology, and storage of optical energy and its conversion into electricity. Various parameters change the electronic and optical behaviors of these materials, which can be changed by controlling some of the structural and chemical parameters of conductive gels, their electronic and optical behaviors depending on the applications. If the conjugated molecules with π bonds come together spontaneously, in a relative order, to form non-covalent bonds, they form a gel-like structure that has photoluminescence properties. The reason for this is the possibility of excitation of highest occupied molecular orbital level electrons of these molecules due to the collision of landing photons and their transfer to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level. This property can be used in various nanoelectronic applications such as field-effect organic transistors, organic solar cells, and sensors to detect explosives. In this paper, the general introduction of conductive or conjugated gels with π bonds is discussed and some of the physical issues surrounding electron excitation due to incident radiation and the mobility of charge carriers, the position, and role of conductive gels in each of these applications are discussed.

A Simple, Cost-Effective, and Green HPTLC Method for the Estimation of Ascorbic Acid in Solvent and Ultrasound-Assisted Extracts of Phyllanthus emblica, Capsicum annuum, and Psidium guajava. Abstract
Greener analytical methodologies for the estimation of ascorbic acid (AA) are poorly reported in the literature. Furthermore, the green indexes of the literature’s analytical assays of AA estimation have not been assessed. As a consequence, the aim of this research is to invent and validate a simple, cost-effective, and green reverse-phase “high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC)” method for the estimating AA in the solvent extracts (SE) and ultrasound-assisted extracts (UAE) of Phyllanthus emblica, Psidium guajava, and Capsicum annuum. The greener mobile phase for AA estimation was a binary mixture of water and ethanol (70:30, v/v). At a wavelength of 265 nm, the detection of AA was carried out. The greener HPTLC technique was linear in the 25–1200 ng/band range. In addition, the method was simple, cost-effective, accurate, precise, robust, sensitive, and green. The amount of AA was highest in the SE and UAE of P. emblica compared to the SE and UAE of P. guajava and C. annuum. The amount of AA in the SE of P. emblica, P. guajava, and C. annuum was found to be 491.16, 168.91, and 144.30 mg/100 g, respectively. However, the amount of AA in the UAE of P. emblica, P. guajava, and C. annuum was found to be 673.02, 218.71, and 199.30 mg/100 g, respectively. Using the “analytical GREEnness (AGREE)” methodology, the greenness index for the developed method was calculated to be 0.88, showing that the developed method has an excellent green profile. When it came to extracting AA, the UAE method outperformed the SE method. These findings suggested that the developed method might be used to estimate the AA in a variety of vegetable crops, plant-based extracts, and commercial formulations. Furthermore, because of the use of greener solvent systems against the commonly utilized hazardous solvent systems for AA determination, this technique is also safe and sustainable.
