Abstract
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have gained significant attention in recent years. This bibliometric analysis aimed to provide insights into the current state and future trends of global circRNA research. The scientific output on circRNAs from 2010 to 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection with circRNA-related terms as the subjects. Key bibliometric indicators were calculated and evaluated using CiteSpace. A total of 7385 studies on circRNAs were identified. The output and citation number have increased rapidly after 2015. China, the USA, and Germany were top three publishing countries. Currently, circCDR1as, circHIPK3, circPVT1, circSHPRH, and circZNF609 are the most studied circRNAs; and all are related to cancer. The theme of research have shifted from transcript, exon circularization and miRNA sponge topics to the transcriptome, tumor suppressor, and biomarkers, indicating that research interests have evolved from basic to applied research. CircRNAs will continue to be a highly active research area in the near future. From the current understanding of circRNA characterization and regulatory mechanisms as miRNA sponges in cancer, future directions may examine potential diagnostic and therapeutic roles of circRNAs in cancers or the function and mechanism of circRNAs in other diseases.

Abstract
Esophageal cancer (EC) is a malignant tumour with high morbidity and mortality rates. Recent studies have shown that much progress has been made in the research of radiotherapy in EC. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hotspots of radiotherapy in EC through bibliometrics. Publications related to radiotherapy in EC from 2014 to 2023 were searched on the web of science core collection database. VOSviewers, CiteSpace and R package 'bibliometrix' were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. In total, 4258 articles from 76 countries led by China and the USA were included. The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences-Peking Union Medical College has the highest number of publications. International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics is the most popular journal and also the most co-cited journal in this field. These publications come from 21 972 authors among which Liao Zhongxing had published the most papers and Cooper JS was co-cited most often. Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and strategies based on it are the main topics in this research field. 'IMRT' and 'immunotherapy' are the primary keywords of emerging research hotspots. This is a bibliometric study that comprehensively summarizes the research trends and developments of radiotherapy in EC. This information identifies recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a reference for scholars studying radiotherapy in EC.

Abstract
Introduction With the discovery of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), it is considered as a valuable tool for supporting the treatment of severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It has gained increasing attention, particularly during the COVID-19 epidemic. However, to date, no relevant bibliometric research on the association between ECMO and ARDS (ECMO-ARDS) has been reported. Our study aimed to summarize the knowledge structure and research focus of ECMO-ARDS through a bibliometric analysis. Method Publications related to ECMO-ARDS from 2000 to 2022 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Research data underwent bibliometric and visual analysis by using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and one online analysis platform. By analyzing the countries, institutions, journals, authors, the geographic distribution of research contributions as well as the leading institutions and researchers in this field were identified. Additionally, prominent journals and highly cited publications were highlighted, indicating their influence and significance in the field. Moreover, the co-citation references and co-occurring keywords provided valuable information on the major research topics, trends, and potential emerging frontiers. Results A total of 1,565 publications from 60 countries/regions were retrieved. The annual publication number over time revealed exponential growth trends (R2 = 0.9511). The United States was dominant in ECMO-ARDS research, whereas the Univ Toronto was most productive institution. Prof Combes A published the most publications in this area. ASAIO Journal and Intensive Care Medicine were the most active and co-cited journals, respectively. Reference co-citation analysis showed that current research focus has shifted to COVID-related ARDS, multi-center studies, as well as prone positioning. Apart from the keywords "ECMO" and "ARDS", other keywords appearing at high frequency in the research field were "COVID-19", "mechanical ventilation", "extracorporeal life support", "respiratory failure", "veno-venous ECMO", "SARS-CoV-2", "outcome". Among them, keywords like "mortality", "veno-venous ECMO", "epidemiology", "obesity", "coagulopathy", "lung ultrasound", "inhalation injury", "noninvasive ventilation", "diagnosis", "heparin", "cytokine storm" has received growing interest in current research and also has the potential to continue to become research hotspots in the near future. Conclusion This bibliometric analysis offers a comprehensive understanding of the current state of ECMO-ARDS research and can serve as a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders in exploring future research directions and fostering collaborations in this critical field.

Abstract
Background The increasing utilization of endoscopic lumbar discectomy (ELD) in spinal surgery has sparked widespread interest and research. This study utilizes bibliometric analysis to identify current research trends and advancements in this innovative surgical technique, with the goal of informing and improving surgical practices. Methods We retrieved relevant literature on ELD from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database as research samples. Various visualization tools, such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Scimago Graphica, Pajek, and online bibliometric platform, were employed to generate scientific knowledge maps for the purpose of visual presentation and data analysis. Results Over the past two decades, there has been significant progress in the research related to ELD, particularly since 2016. China has emerged as the most productive country, while South Korea and the United States have exerted greater academic influence. Tongji University has contributed the highest number of research output, while academic achievements published by Wooridul Spine Hospital are highly esteemed by scholars. Lee SH and Ruetten S are the most prolific author and the most highly cited author, respectively. World Neurosurg has published the highest number of publications, while Spine has become the most influential journal. Clinical Neurology and Surgery are the primary subject categories. Research in this field primarily revolves around improving ELD techniques, evaluating postoperative efficacy and prognosis prediction, studying complications and risk factors, as well as comparative research with other surgical techniques. Keywords such as risk factors, LDH, PETD, lumbar spinal stenosis, degeneration, recurrent herniation, laminectomy, local anesthesia, and foraminoplasty highlight the current research hotspots and future cutting-edge trends. Conclusion This study employed bibliometric analysis to elucidate the research hotspots and frontiers in ELD. The findings have significant implications for advancing research and development in this field.

Abstract
Background Dementia is a progressive neurodegenerative condition, while metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by a combination of metabolic abnormalities such as hypertension, high blood sugar, and obesity. There exists a connection and overlap between the two conditions in certain aspects, and both are influenced to varying degrees by the process of aging. This study presents an overview of the current research landscape regarding dementia and MetS through bibliometric analysis. Methods A systematic search was conducted to retrieve relevant literature on dementia and MetS published between 1 January 2000, and 30 November 2023, from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Various bibliometric tools, including VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R software package "bibliometrix," were utilized for analysis. Results A total of 717 articles were identified, showing an upward trend in annual publications. Leading contributors included the United States, Italy, and China, with institutions such as the University of California System at the forefront. The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease emerged as the top publisher, while research published in Neurology garnered significant citations. Noteworthy authors encompassed Panza, Francesco; Frisardi, Vincenza; and Feldman, Eva L, with Kristine Yaffe being the most cited author (280 citations). Recent studies have focused on themes like "gut microbiota," "neuroinflammation," "fatty acids," and "microglia." Conclusion This bibliometric analysis summarizes the foundational knowledge structure in the realm of dementia and MetS from 2000 to 2023. By highlighting current research frontiers and trending topics, this analysis serves as a valuable reference for researchers in the field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to analyze the process and frontiers of research in myocardial bridges (MB) to identify future research directions in the last 3 decades. METHODS Relevant literature on MB combined with myocardial infarction (MI) was searched from 1991 to 2023 in the Web of Science database, and was analyzed by bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R package "bibliometrix." RESULTS A total of 1233 English articles were included in this study. The number of published articles showed an increasing trend yearly. From 2017 to 2022, the annual publication volume rose rapidly, and in 2021 the publication volume even reached 95 articles, which was the highest in all years. These publications were from 68 countries and 1854 institutions, with the leading country being the U.S. and the leading institution being Columbia University. Myoho Clinical International has a close collaborative relationship with Columbia University, while in recent years, the Harvard Medical School has explored the study of MB combined with MI. Annals of Thoracic Surgery was the journal with the highest number of publications, and Takayama Hiroo and Naka Yoshifumi were the authors with the highest number of publications. The most common keywords were MI, cardiogenic shock, and MB. CONCLUSIONS Our findings can help researchers explore the current status of MB combined with MI research and choose new survey routes for upcoming studies. Prevalence and prognosis, mechanism of MB combined with MI and molecular mechanism may become the focus of future research. In addition, more research and cooperation are needed worldwide.

Abstract
We investigated the impact of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy on treating bilateral human hip osteonecrosis, analyzing 908 cases. This study assesses factors such as tissue source and cell count, comparing core decompression with various cell therapies. This research emphasizes bone repair according to pre-treatment conditions and the specificities of cell therapy in osteonecrosis repair, indicating a potential for improved bone repair strategies in hips without femoral head collapse. This study utilized a single-center retrospective analysis to investigate the efficacy of cellular approaches in the bone repair of osteonecrosis. It examined the impact on bone repair of tissue source (autologous bone marrow concentrate, allogeneic expanded, autologous expanded), cell quantity (from none in core decompression alone to millions in cell therapy), and osteonecrosis stage and volume. Excluding hips with femoral head collapse, it focused on patients who had bilateral hip osteonecrosis, both pre-operative and post-operative MRIs, and a follow-up of over five years. The analysis divided these patients into seven groups based on match control treatment variations in bilateral hip osteonecrosis, primarily investigating the outcomes between core decompression, washing effect, and different tissue sources of MSCs. Younger patients (<30 years) demonstrated significantly better repair volumes, particularly in stage II lesions, than older counterparts. Additionally, bone repair volume increased with the number of implanted MSCs up to 1,000,000, beyond which no additional benefits were observed. No significant difference was observed in repair outcomes between different sources of MSCs (BMAC, allogenic, or expanded cells). The study also highlighted that a 'washing effect' was beneficial, particularly for larger-volume osteonecrosis when combined with core decompression. Partial bone repair was the more frequent event observed, while total bone repair of osteonecrosis was rare. The volume and stage of osteonecrosis, alongside the number of injected cells, significantly affected treatment outcomes. In summary, this study provides comprehensive insights into the effectiveness and variables influencing the use of mesenchymal stem cells in treating human hip osteonecrosis. It emphasizes the potential of cell therapy while acknowledging the complexity and variability of results based on factors such as age, cell count, and disease stage.

Abstract
Background The concept of the gut-liver axis was proposed by Marshall in 1998, and since then, this hypothesis has been gradually accepted by the academic community. Many publications have been published on the gut-liver axis, making it important to assess the scientific implications of these studies and the trends in this field. Methods Publications were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica software were used for bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 776 publications from the Web of Science core database were included in this study. In the past 25 years, the number of publications on the gut-liver axis has shown an upward trend, particularly in the past 3 years (2020-2022). China had the highest number of publications (267 articles, 34.4%). However, the United States was at the top regarding influence and international cooperation in this field. The University of California San Diego had contributed the most publications. Suk, Ki Tae and Schnabl, Bernd were tied for the first rank in most publications. Thematic hotspots and frontiers were focused on gut microbiota, microbial metabolite, intestinal permeability, bacterial translocation, bile acid, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and alcoholic liver disease. Conclusion Our study is the first bibliometric analysis of literature using visualization software to present the current research status of the gut-liver axis over the past 25 years. The damage and repair of intestinal barrier function, as well as the disruption of gut microbiota and host metabolism, should be a focus of attention. This study can provide a reference for later researchers to understand the global research trends, hotspots, and frontiers in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disorders are a common disease faced by people today and can lead to fatigue, lack of concentration, impaired memory, and even death. In recent years, the development of brain stimulation techniques has provided a new perspective for the treatment of sleep disorders. However, there is a lack of bibliometric analyses related to sleep disorders and brain stimulation techniques. Therefore, this study analyzed the application status and trend of brain stimulation technology in sleep disorder research. MATERIAL AND METHODS Articles and reviews published between 1999 and 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science. CiteSpace was used to visually analyze the publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. RESULTS A total of 459 publications were obtained. The number of studies was shown to be on a general upward trend. The country with the largest number of publications was the United States; UDICE-French Research Universities had the highest number of publications; Neurology had the highest citation frequency; 90% of the top 10 references cited were from Journal Citation Reports Q1; Brigo was the author with the highest number of publications; and the most frequent keywords were "transcranial magnetic stimulation", "deep brain stimulation", and "Parkinson disease". CONCLUSIONS Our study used CiteSpace software to analyze 459 studies published since 1999 on brain stimulation techniques for the treatment of sleep disorders, revealing research trends and the current state of the field. Our results will help researchers to understand the existing research quickly and provide direction for future research.

Abstract
Objective To analyze the current research status, hotspots, and frontiers in the field of Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer and quality of life (QoL) through the bibliometrics method, and to provide references and guidance for future research. Methods Literature related to GI cancer and QoL from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace 6.2.R1 was performed for collaboration analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and document co-citation analysis. Results A total of 1224 publications were included in this study. There has been a significant increase in the number of publications in this field over the past two decades. The United States, the Karolinska Institute and the University of Amsterdam, and Pernilla Lagergren are the most prolific country, institution, and author, respectively. The links between most of the research constituents were relatively thin (centrality <0.1). The keyword analysis indicates that the benefits of physical activity on QoL, the levels of psychological distress and its relationship with QoL, as well as the development and validation of QoL measurement tools have been the research hotspots. Open-label/double-blind trials exploring therapeutic interventions and more targeted new drugs or more effective drug combinations, and longitudinal studies determining the direction of the association between psychological distress and QoL at different time points, may be emerging trends in this field. Conclusion The cooperation among countries, institutions, and authors in this field should be strengthened. In addition, the health benefits of light physical activity, interventions for QoL, trajectory and direction of the relationship between psychological distress and QoL may be the focus of future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a serious condition that causes bone tissue death, femoral head collapse, and hip joint destruction. Early intervention through hip-preserving treatment is crucial to slow down disease progression, preserve hip joint function, and improve the quality of life of patients. We analyzed the knowledge map, research gaps, and future research directions in the field of hip-preserving treatment for early ONFH. METHODS All publications related to hip-preserving treatment for early ONFH published between 2010 and 2023 were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection and analyzed using VOSviewer 1.6.19, CiteSpace 6.2.R2, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.35. RESULTS In total, 234 articles were analyzed. The results showed an exponential growth trend in the number of publications related to hip-preserving treatment for early ONFH in the past decade. China and the USA were the main contributors. International Orthopaedics published the most papers in this field, whereas Bone and Joint Surgery-American Volume had the highest average citation count per article. Several stable research topics were noted in this field, including core decompression (CD), osteotomy, bone transplantation in hip-preserving surgery, and cell therapy, which have become research hotspots in hip-preserving treatment. CONCLUSIONS Hip-preserving treatment for early ONFH has received increasing attention, and research in this field is expected to grow. Stable research topics include core decompression (CD), osteotomy, bone transplantation, and cell therapy. Future research is predicted to focus on cell therapy and combination therapy, resulting in an increasing number of publications on hip-preserving treatment for early ONFH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), attributable to Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP), represents a predominant form of community-acquired pneumonia in pediatric populations, thereby posing a significant threat to pediatric health. Given the burgeoning volume of research literature associated with pediatric MPP in recent years, it becomes imperative to undertake a bibliometric analysis aimed at delineating the current research landscape and emerging trends, thereby furnishing a framework for subsequent investigations. METHODS A comprehensive literature search targeting pediatric MPP was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection. After the removal of duplicate entries through Endnote software, the remaining articles were subject to scientometric analysis via Citespace software, VOSviewer software and R language, focusing on variables such as publication volume, contributing nations, institutions and authors, references and keywords. RESULTS A total of 1,729 articles pertinent to pediatric MPP were included in the analysis. China and the United States emerged as the nations with the highest publication output. Italian scholar Susanna Esposito and Japanese scholar Kazunobu Ouchi were the most influential authors in the domain of pediatric MPP. Highly-cited articles primarily focused on the epidemiological investigation of pediatric MPP, the clinical characteristics and treatment of macrolide-resistant MPP, and biomarkers for refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP). From the corpus of 1,729 articles, 636 keywords were extracted and categorized into ten clusters: Cluster #0 centered on molecular-level typing of macrolide-resistant strains; Cluster #1 focused on lower respiratory tract co-infections; Clusters #2 and #6 emphasized other respiratory ailments caused by MP; Cluster #3 involved biomarkers and treatment of RMPP; Clusters #4 and #9 pertained to extrapulmonary complications of MPP, Clusters #5 and #7 addressed etiological diagnosis of MPP, and Cluster #8 explored pathogenic mechanisms. CONCLUSIONS The past few years have witnessed extensive attention directed towards pediatric MPP. Research in pediatric MPP principally revolves around diagnostic techniques for MP, macrolide resistance, complications of MPP, treatment and diagnosis of RMPP, and elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms. The present study provides pediatric clinicians and researchers with the research status and focal points in this field, thereby guiding the orientation of future research endeavors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common, refractory and disabling disease of orthopedic department, which is one of the common causes of hip pain and dysfunction. Recent studies have shown that much progress has been made in the research of programmed cell death (PCD) in ONFH. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hot spots of PCD in ONFH through bibliometrics. METHOD The literature search related to ONFH and PCD was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 2002 to 2021. The VOSviewers, "bibliometrix" R package and CiteSpace were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. RESULTS In total, 346 articles from 27 countries led by China and USA and Japan were included. The number of publications related to PCD in ONFH is increasing year by year. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi An Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology are the main research institutions. Molecular Medicine Reports is the most popular journal in the field of PCD in ONFH, and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research is the most cocited journal. These publications come from 1882 authors among which Peng Hao, Sun Wei, Zhang Chang-Qing, Zhang Jian and Wang Kun-zheng had published the most papers and Ronald S Weinstein was cocited most often. Apoptosis, osteonecrosis, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, glucocorticoid and femoral head appeared are the main topics the field of PCD in ONFH. Autophagy was most likely to be the current research hot spot for PCD in ONFH. CONCLUSION This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively summarizes the research trends and developments of PCD in ONFH. This information identified recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a reference for scholars studying PCD in ONFH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As an emerging potential risk factor for gastric cancer, autoimmune gastritis (AIG) has garnered increasing attention from researchers. AIM To analyze the research overview and popular topics in the field of AIG using bibliometrics. METHODS Relevant publications on AIG in the Web of Science Core Collection were collated, and data visualization and analysis of the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and citations were performed using software such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphic. RESULTS In total, 316 relevant articles were included in the analysis. From 2015 to 2022, the number of publications increased annually. The countries, institutions, authors, and journals with the highest number of publications in this field were Italy, Monash University, Toh BH, and Internal Medicine. The main keywords used in this field of research were pathogenesis, Helicobacter pylori, autoantibody, parietal cell antibody, atrophic gastritis, classification, diagnosis, autoimmune disease, risk, cancer, gastric cancer, vitamin B12 deficiency, and pernicious anemia. The following directions may be popular for future research: (1) The role of Helicobacter pylori in the pathogenesis of AIG; (2) diagnostic criteria for AIG and reference values for serum antibodies; (3) comorbidity mechanisms between AIG and other autoimmune diseases; (4) specific risks of AIG complicating gastric and other cancers; and (5) the role of vitamin B12 supplementation in patients with early-stage AIG. CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis reported on popular topics and emerging trends in AIG, with diagnosis and prognosis being research hotspots in this field.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A high salt diet is a significant risk factor for hypertension, and scholarly investigations into this relationship have garnered considerable attention worldwide. However, bibliometric analyses in this field remain underdeveloped. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric and visual analysis of research progress on the link between high salt and hypertension from 2011 to 2022 with the goal of identifying future research trends and providing valuable insights for this field. METHODS High salt and hypertension data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer software were employed to analyze publication output trends, the most productive countries or regions, journals, authors, co-cited references, and keywords. RESULTS After screening, 1470 papers met the inclusion criteria. Relevant publications increased annually by 3.66% from 2011 to 2022. The United States led in research productivity, with The Journal of Hypertension publishing the most papers, and David L. Mattson as the most prolific author. Oxidative stress has emerged as a prominent research topic, and extensive investigations have been conducted on related mechanisms. "Oxidative stress," "gut microbiota," and "kidney injury" are recent hotspots that are expected to remain so, and this study carefully characterizes the mechanism of high salt-induced hypertension based on these hotspots. CONCLUSION This study utilized bibliometric and visualization analysis to identify the development trends and hotspots of publications related to high salt and hypertension. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the forefront of emerging trends and future directions in this field.

Abstract
Extracellular vesicles in wound healing have become an active research field with substantial value and potential. Nevertheless, there are few bibliometric studies in this field. We aimed to visualise the research hot spots and trends of extracellular vesicles in wound healing using a bibliometric analysis to help understand the future development of basic and clinical research. The articles and reviews regarding extracellular vesicles in the wound healing were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewers, CiteSpace and R package "bibliometric" were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. A total of 1225 articles from 56 countries led by China and the United States were included. The number of publications related to extracellular vesicles increased year by year. Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University and Central South University are the main research institutions. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is the most popular journal in this field, while Stem Cell Research & Therapy is the most frequently cited journal. These papers come from 7546 authors, among which Zhang Wei has published the most papers and Zhang Bin has the most cocited papers. The research on the treatment strategy of extracellular vesicles in the process of wound healing is the main topic in this field. "exosomes", "miRNA", "angiogenesis", "regenerative medicine", "inflammation" and "diabetic wound" are the main key words of emerging research hotspots. This is the first bibliometric study, which comprehensively summarises the research trend and development of extracellular vesicles and exocrine bodies in wound healing. These informations determine the latest research frontiers and hot directions, and provide reference for the study of extracellular vesicles and exosomes.

Abstract
Objective Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is an inevitable dilemma when previously ischemic multiple organs and tissues are returned to a state of blood flow, with confirming a critical role of ferroptosis in molecular, pathway mechanisms, subcellular structure. Discovering the potential relationship may provide useful approaches for the clinical treatment and prognosis of the pathophysiological status of IRI. Therefore, a comprehensive visualization and scientometric analysis were conducted to systematically summarize and discuss the "ferroptosis in ischemia reperfusion injury" research to demonstrate directions for scholars in this field. Methods We retrieved all publications focusing on I/R injury and ferroptosis from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), published from 2013 to October 2022. Next, scientometric analysis of different items was performed using various bibliometrics softwares to explore the annual trends, countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors and their multi-dimensional relationship pointing to current hotspots and future advancement in this field. Results We included a total of 421 English articles in set timespan. The number of publications increased steadily annually. China produced the highest number of publications, followed by the United States. Most publications were from Central South University, followed by Sichuan University and Wuhan University. The most authoritative academic journal was Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity. Cell occupied the first rank of co-cited journal list. Andreas Linkermann and Scott J Dixon may have the highest influence in this intersected field with the highest number of citations and co-cited references respectively. The essential biological reactions such as oxidative stress response, lipid peroxidation metabolism, anti-inflammmatory and pro-inflammatory procedure, and related molecular pathways were knowledge base and current hotspots. Molecules pathways exploration, effective inhibition of I/R injury and promising strategy of improving allografts may become future trends and focuses. Conclusions Research on ferroptosis in I/R injury had aroused great interest recently. This first bibliometric study comprehensively analyzed the research landscape of ferroptosis and I/R injury, and also provided a reliable reference for related scholars to facilitate further advancement in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Barrier surfaces composed of specialized epithelial cells separate the host body from the external environment, and are essential for maintaining proper intestinal physiologic and immune homeostasis. AIM To explore the development trends and research hotspots of intestinal barrier research in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). METHODS The publications related to the intestinal barrier in IBD were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were conducted using VOSviewer, CiteSpace and R software. RESULTS A total of 4482 articles published between 2002 and 2022 were identified. The United States is dominant in intestinal barrier research, whereas the University of Chicago is the most active institution. Jerrold from Harvard Medical School was the most productive authors with the most citations. The journals Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Gastroenterology have made significant contributions in this field. The keywords appearing at high frequency related to the intestinal barrier in IBD were detected, including nuclear factor kappa B, tumor necrosis factor-α, apoptosis, oxidative stress and probiotics. Among them, antioxidants, Akkermansia muciniphila, nanoparticles, short-chain fatty acids and extracellular vesicles have received growing interest in recent research. CONCLUSION The intestinal barrier field is developing rapidly with extensive cooperation. Targeting the gut microbiota and dietary metabolism to regulate the intestinal barrier has shown promising prospective applications and has generated broad interest. The importance of the intestinal barrier in IBD is gradually being fully recognized, providing a new therapeutic perspective for improving inflammation and prognosis.

Abstract
Background Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor. Traditional treatments for glioma include surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and bevacizumab therapy, but their efficacies are limited. Immunotherapy provides a new direction for glioma treatment. This study aimed to summarize the knowledge structure and research hotspots of glioma immunotherapy through a bibliometric analysis. Method Publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy published during the period from 1st January 1990 to 27th March 2023 were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Bibliometric analysis and visualization were performed using the CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and R software. The hotspots and prospects of glioma immunotherapy research were illustrated via analyzing the countries, institutions, journals, authors, citations and keywords of eligible publications. Results A total of 1,929 publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy in 502 journals were identified as of 27th March 2023, involving 9,505 authors from 1,988 institutions in 62 countries. Among them were 1,285 articles and 644 reviews. Most of publications were produced by the United States. JOURNAL OF NEURO-ONCOLOGY published the majority of publications pertaining to glioma immunotherapy. Among the authors, Lim M contributed the largest number of publications. Through analyzing keyword bursts and co-cited references, immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) were identified as the research focus and hotspot. Conclusion Using a bibliometric analysis, this study provided the knowledge structure and research hotspots in glioma immunotherapy research during the past 33 years, with ICIs staying in the current and future hotspot. Our findings may direct the research of glioma immunotherapy in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND East Asia is the most dynamic region in the world and includes three major countries: Japan, South Korea and China. Due to rapid economic growth, orthopedics research in East Asia has achieved great advances during the past 10 years. However, the current status of orthopedic research in Japan, South Korea and China is still unclear. AIM To understand the current status of orthopedic research in Japan, South Korea, and China. METHODS Journals listed in the ''Orthopedics'' category of Science Citation Index Expanded subject categories were included. The PubMed and Web of Knowledge electronic databases were searched to identify scientific publications from the selected journals written by researchers from Japan, South Korea and China. A systematic analysis was conducted to analyze orthopedic research articles published in the three countries based on the number of articles, study design, impact factors (IFs) and citations. Furthermore, we also ranked the top 10 countries worldwide with the highest publications in the past 10 years. Additionally, we ranked the top 10 countries with the highest number of publications in the world in the past 10 years. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 20.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, United States), and statistical results are given in Tables and Figures. The Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test were used to detect differences between countries. The tendency regarding the number of articles was analyzed by curvilinear regression. A two-tailed P < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS From 2012-2021, a total of 144518 articles were published in the 86 selected orthopedic journals. During this period, the number of worldwide published orthopedic articles has shown an annual increasing trend. A total of 27164 orthopedic research articles were published by Japan, South Korea and China during the past 10 years; 44.32% were from China, 32.98% were from Japan, and 22.70% were from South Korea. From 2012 to 2021, the annual number of articles markedly increased in each of the three countries. Over time, the worldwide share of articles increased substantially in South Korea (3.37% to 6.53%, P < 0.001) and China (5.29% to 9.61%, P < 0.001). However, the worldwide share of articles significantly decreased in Japan (5.22% to 3.80%, P < 0.001). The annual total IFs of articles from China were well above those of articles from Japan and South Korea (36597.69 vs 27244.48 vs 20657.83, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference among the articles in the top 10 high-IF orthopedics journals published from those three countries [South Korea (800) > China (787) > Japan (646), P > 0.05]. CONCLUSION Over the past 10 years, China's scientific publications in orthopedic journals have shown an increasing trend. Considering the relative scale of the populations, Japan and South Korea have outpaced China with respect to quality.

Abstract
Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is a practical and safe acetabular reorientation technique used to correct structural hip deformities, and much relevant literature has been published over the past decades. This bibliometric study aims to determine the status of PAO research between 1994 and 2022. Information about PAO research publications from 1994 to 2022 was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. This bibliometric study is implemented and analyzed through three bibliometric tools with respect to publication counts, countries, institutions, authors, journals, funding agencies, references and keywords. In total, 634 publications concerning PAO were identified. The United States and Washington University in St. Louis have published the most literature in terms of country and institution. Additionally, Switzerland and the University of Bern are the country and the institution with the highest average number of citations in the PAO field. The most published and co-cited journal is Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Burst keyword detection has discovered that 'patient-reported outcome', 'instability', 'risk', 'survivorship' and 'outcome' are regarded as the current research frontier. In summary, our findings provide insight into the bibliometric overview of research status in the PAO field, which may offer later investigators' references in exploring further research directions.

Background Injury is one of the leading causes of mortality and disability worldwide. It is a major contributor to the overall burden of disease. This study aimed to analyze the temporal trend, research focus and future direction of research related to injury burden. Methods Publications on injury burden published between January 1998 and September 2022 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) through topic advanced search strategy. Microsoft Excel, RStudio, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace were used to extract, integrate, and visualize bibliometric information. Results A total of 2916 articles and 783 reviews were identified. The number of publications on injury burden showed a steady upward trend. The United States of America (USA) (n=1628) and the University of Washington (n=1036) were the most productive country and institution. High-income countries started research in this domain earlier, while research in low- and middle-income countries began in recent years. Lancet was the most influential journal. Public, environmental occupational health, general medicine and neurology were the predominant research domains. Based on keyword co-occurrence analysis, the research focus was divided into five clusters: injury epidemiology and prevention, studies related to the global burden of disease (GBD), risk factors for injury, clinical management of injury, and injury outcome assessment and economic burden. Conclusion The burden of injury has drawn increasing attention from various perspectives over the years. The research field on injury burden is also becoming more and more extensive. However, there are some gaps among different countries or regions, and more attention needs to be paid to low and middle-income countries.

Abstract
Purpose Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common clinical disease characterized by the destruction of articular cartilage, subchondral ossification, cystic degeneration and osteophyte formation. Recently, more and more scholars draw attention to exosomes in the field of OA, and exciting breakthroughs have been achieved in recent years. However, bibliometric analysis of the literature in this research field is lacking. Considering its potential in treatment of OA, this article aimed to analyze the research status and identify future hotspots of exosomes in osteoarthritis in recent 10 years by bibliometrics tools. Methods Relevant publications in this field from 2012 to 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science core collection database (WOSSCC). And we used Vosviewers, CiteSpace, an online analysis platform and the R package "Bibliometrix" for bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 484 publications (including 319 articles and 165 reviews) from 51 countries, 720 institutions, were included in this study. IRCCS Ist Ortoped Galeazzi, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Sun Yat-sen University are the leading research institutions in this field. International Journal of Molecular Sciences contributed the largest number of articles, and Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is the most co-cited journal. Of the 2664 scholars who participated in the study, Ragni E, De Girolamo L, Orfei CP, and Colombini A had the largest number of articles. Zhang, SP is the most co-cited author. "Mesenchymal stem cell", "biomaterials", "Inflammation" and "regenerative medicine" are the keywords in the research. Conclusion This is the first bibliometric analysis of exosomes in osteoarthritis. We explored current research status in recent years and identified frontiers and hot spots in this research field. We highlight the significant roles of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and identified exosomal biomaterials as frontier in this research domain, which can provide reference for the researchers who focus on this research field.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to utilize bibliometric and visual analysis techniques to identify hotspots and frontiers of research in myasthenia gravis (MG) and provide valuable references for future research. The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was used to retrieve literature data related to MG research, which was then analyzed using VOSviewer 1.6.18, CiteSpace 6.1.R3, and the Online Platform for Bibliometric Analysis. The analysis revealed 6734 publications distributed across 1612 journals and contributed by as many as 24,024 authors affiliated with 4708 institutions across 107 countries/regions. The number of annual publications and citations for MG research has steadily increased over the past 2 decades, with the last 2 years alone witnessing a remarkable increase in annual publications and citations to over 600 and 17,000, respectively. In terms of productivity, the United States emerged as the top producing country, while the University of Oxford ranked first in terms of research institutions. Vincent A was identified as the top contributor in terms of publications and citations. Muscle & Nerve and Neurology ranked first in publications and citations respectively, with clinical neurology and neurosciences among the main subject categories explored. The study also identified pathogenesis, eculizumab, thymic epithelial cells, immune checkpoint inhibitors, thymectomy, MuSK antibodies, risk, diagnosis, and management as the current hot research topics in MG, while burst keywords like quality of life, immune-related adverse events (irAEs), rituximab, safety, nivolumab, cancer, and classification indicated the frontiers of MG research. This study effectively identifies the hotspots and frontiers of MG research, and offers valuable references for researchers interested in this area.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A highly cited paper (HCP) is considered a landmark that can influence both research and clinical practice. The characteristics of HCPs in avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVNFH) were identified and the research status was explored in a scientometric analysis. METHODS The present bibliometric analysis were based on the Scopus database from 1991 to 2021. Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were used for co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence analysis. From 8496 papers, only 2.9% (244) were HCPs, with 200.8 citations registered per article. RESULTS Of the HCPs, 11.9% and 12.3% were externally funded and had international collaboration, respectively. These were published in 84 journals by 1625 authors from 425 organizations of 33 countries. The USA, Japan, Switzerland, and Israel were the leading countries.The lead research organizations were Sinai Hospital and John Hopkins University (USA). The most impactful organizations were University of Arkansas for Medical Science, and Good Samaritan Hospital (USA). R.A. Mont (USA) and K.H. Koo (South Korea) were the most prolific contributing authors, while R. Ganz (Switzerland) and R.S. Weinstein (USA) registered the most impactful contributions. The most prolific publishing journal was the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. CONCLUSION The HCPs contributed to the knowledge of AVNFH by examining research perspectives and identifying important subareas through keyword analysis. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Not applicable. Abstract
Background Since severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) was first reported in 2009, a large number of relevant studies have been published. However, no bibliometrics analysis has been conducted on the literature focusing on SFTSV. This study aims to evaluate the research hotspots and future development trends of SFTSV research through bibliometric analysis, and to provide a new perspective and reference for future SFTSV research and the prevention of SFTSV. Methods We retrieved global publications on SFTSV from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and Scopus databases from inception of the database until 2022 using VOSviewer software and CiteSpace was used for bibliometric analysis. Results The number of SFTSV-related publications has increased rapidly since 2011, peaking in 2021. A total of 45 countries/regions have published relevant publications, with China topping the list with 359. The Viruses-Basel has published the most papers on SFTSV. In addition, Yu et al. have made the greatest contribution to SFTSV research, with their published paper being the most frequently cited. The most popular SFTSV study topics included: (1) pathogenesis and symptoms, (2) characteristics of the virus and infected patients, and (3) transmission mechanism and risk factors for SFTSV. Conclusions In this study, we provide a detailed description of the research developments in SFTSV since its discovery and summarize the SFTSV research trends. SFTSV research is in a phase of explosive development, and a large number of publications have been published in the past decade. There is a lack of collaboration between countries and institutions, and international collaboration and exchanges should be strengthened in the future. The current research hotpots of SFTSV is antiviral therapy, immunotherapy, virus transmission mechanism and immune response.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is still a challenge for orthopedists worldwide and can lead to disability if patients are not treated effectively. Danyu Gukang Pill (DGP), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, is recognized to be effective against ONFH. Nevertheless, its molecular mechanisms remain to be clarified. METHODS The active ingredients of DGP were collected from the online databases according to oral bioavailability (OB) and drug-likeness (DL). The potential targets of DGP were retrieved from the TCMSP database, while the potential targets of ONFH were obtained from the GeneCards and NCBI databases. The functions and signaling pathways of the common targets of DGP and ONFH were enriched by GO and KEGG analyses. Subsequently, molecular docking and in vitro cell experiments were performed to further validate our findings. RESULTS In total, 244 active ingredients of DGP and their corresponding 317 targets were obtained, and 40 ONFH-related targets were predicted. Afterwards, 19 common targets of DGP and ONFH were obtained and used as potential targets for the treatment of ONFH. Finally, combined with network pharmacology analysis, molecular docking and in vitro cell experiments, our study first demonstrated that the treatment effect of DGP on ONFH might be closely related to the two targets, HIF1A (HIF-1α) and VEGFA, and the HIF-1 signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to investigate the molecular mechanisms of DGP in the treatment of ONFH based on network pharmacology. The results showed that DGP might up-regulate the expression of HIF-1α and VEGFA by participating in the HIF-1 signaling pathway, thus playing an anti-ONFH role.

Abstract
Background: Ultrasound-triggered sonodynamic therapy (SDT), as a non-invasive approach, has attracted considerable attention in a wide variety of malignant tumors and other diseases. Over the past 2 decades, the number of scientific publications on SDT has increased rapidly. However, there is still a lack of one comprehensive report that summarizes the global research trends and knowledge landscapes in the field of SDT in detail. Thus, we performed a bibliometric analysis on SDT from 2000 to 2021 to track the current hotspots and highlight future directions. Methods: We collected publications on SDT research from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The annual number of publications and citations, major contributors, popular journals, international collaborations, co-cited references and co-occurrence keywords were analyzed and visualized with CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R-bibliometrix. Results: A total of 701 publications were included. The annual publication output increased from 5 in 2000 to 175 in 2021, and the average growth rate was 18.4%. China was the most productive country with 463 documents (66.05%), and Harbin Medical University was the most prolific institution (N = 73). Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology published the most papers related to SDT. Materials Science, and Chemistry were the research areas receiving the most interest. All the keywords were divided into four different clusters including studies on mechanisms, studies on drug delivery and nanoparticles, studies on cancer therapy, as well as studies on ultrasound and sonosensitizers. In addition to nanomaterials-related studies including nanoparticles, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, nanosheets, liposomes, microbubble and TiO2 nanoparticle, the following research directions such as immunogenic cell death, metal-organic framework, photothermal therapy, hypoxia, tumor microenvironment, chemodynamic therapy, combination therapy, tumor resistance, intensity focused ultrasound, drug delivery, and Staphylococcus aureus also deserve further attention and may continue to explode in the future. Conclusion: SDT has a bright future in the field of cancer treatment, and nanomaterials have increasingly influenced the SDT field with the development of nano-technology. Overall, this comprehensive bibliometric study was the first attempt to analyze the field of SDT, which could provide valuable references for later researchers to better understand the global research trends, hotspots and frontiers in this domain.

Abstract
Background Colorectal cancer (CRC)is the third most common cancer in the world and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, and over the past two decades, many of these researchers have provided a substantial amount of important information on the role of gut microbes in the development and progression of CRC. A causal relationship between the presence of specific microorganisms and CRC development has also been validated. Although a large number of papers related to this area have been published, no bibliometric study has been conducted to review the current state of research in this area and to highlight the research trends and hotspots in this area. This study aims to analyze the current status and future research trends of gut microbiota and CRC through bibliometric analysis. Methods Publications from 2001 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and screened according to inclusion criteria. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used to visualize the research trends in this field, including the analysis of title, country, institution, author, number of publications, year of publication, number of citations, journal, and H-index. Results A total of 863 studies were eventually identified, and the articles retrieved were cited an average of 44.85 times each. The number of publications on this topic has been increased steadily since 2011. China and the USA have made the largest contribution in the field. FRONTIERS IN MICROBIOLOGY is the top productive journal with 26 papers, and Gut journal has the highest average citation (167.23). Shanghai Jiao Tong University is the most contributive institution. Professor Yu J, Sung, Joseph J. Y and Fang JY are the most productive authors in this field. Keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that the terms of "Gut Microbiota", "Colorectal Cancer", "Inflammation", "Probiotic" and "Fusobacterium Nucleatum" were the most frequent, which revealed the research hotpots and trends in this field. Conclusions There has been a growing number of publications over the past two decades according to the global trends. China and the USA still maintained the leading position in this field. However, collaboration between institutions needs to be strengthened. It's commended to pay attention to the latest hotspots, such as "F. nucleatum" and "probiotics". This bibliometric analysis evaluates the scope and trends of gut microbiota and CRC, providing a useful perspective on current research and future directions for studying the link between the gut microbiota and CRC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the development of robotic surgery in the field of oncology, an increasing number of relevant research papers have been published. In order to explore the research hotspots and trends in this field, a bibliometric and visual analysis was performed for the first time. METHODS The literature records related to oncology robotic surgery were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database and imported into the software VOSviewer 1.6.18, CiteSpace 6.1.R3, and the Bibliometric Online Analysis Platform for analysis. RESULTS A total of 6,964 publications, including 5,635 articles and 1,329 reviews, were included in this study. Over the past 20 years, annual publications and citations have experienced rapid growth, particularly in the last two years. The United States was the country with the most publications, while Yonsei University in South Korea was the most productive institution. The Journal of Robotic Surgery and the Journal of Urology were the journals with the most publications and citations, respectively. Mottrie A from Belgium and Ficarra V from Italy were the authors with the highest number of publications and citations, respectively. The keywords "robotic surgical procedure", "laparoscopic surgery", "prostate cancer", "colorectal cancer", "gastric cancer", "resection", "complications classification", "open surgery", "transoral robotic surgery", "pathological outcomes", and "robot-assisted surgery" reflect the research hotspots and trends of oncology robotic surgery. CONCLUSION The therapeutic advantages of robotic surgery in oncology are not yet prominent, and further randomized controlled trials with multicenter and large samples are needed to evaluate the advantages of robotic surgery compared with laparoscopic surgery and open surgery in the treatment of tumors from multiple outcome indicators.

Abstract
PURPOSE In the past decade, the field of pre-psoas oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) has developed rapidly, and with it, the literature on OLIF has grown considerably. This study was designed to analyze the top 50 articles in terms of the number of citations through bibliometric research to demonstrate the research characteristics and hotspots of OLIF. METHOD Searching the Web of Science database yielded the 50 most cited publications in the OLIF field as of July 10, 2022. The publications were ranked according to the number of citations. The following sources were evaluated: the year of publications, the number of citations, authors, countries, institutions, journals, research topics, and keyword hotspots. RESULTS The most productive period was from 2017 to 2020, with 41 articles. The number of citations varied from 10 to 140, with an average of 35.52, and 1,776 citations were found. World Neurosurgery published the most articles (12), China produced the most articles (16), and the Catholic University of Korea produced the most studies (6). The corresponding author who produced the most articles was J.S. Kim (5), and the first author who produced the most publications was S. Orita (3). The main research topics were anatomical morphology, surgical techniques, indications, outcomes, and complications. The top 10 most cited keywords were "complications," "decompression," "spine," "surgery," "outcomes," "transpsoas approach," "spondylolisthesis," "anterior," "disease," and "injury." CONCLUSIONS Certain articles can be distinguished from others using citation analysis as an accurate representation of their impact due to their long-term effectiveness and peer recognition. With these publications, researchers are provided with research priorities and hotspots through influential literature in the field of OLIF.

Abstract
Background Bibliometric analysis and visualization tools were used to determine the development trend of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in orthopedics in the past 20 years, so as to guide researchers to explore new directions and hotspots in the field in the future. Methods In the Web of Science Core Collection, all articles about the application of MSCs in orthopedics from 2002 to 2021 were searched. The qualitative and quantitative analysis was performed based on Web of Science and CiteSpace software. Results A total of 2,207 articles were retrieved. After excluding non-article articles such as review and letter and non-English language articles, 1,489 articles were finally included. Over the past 2 decades, the number of publications on the application of MSCs in orthopedic diseases increased. Among them, the United States, China, Japan and the United Kingdom have made significant contributions in this field. The most productive institution was Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Journal of Orthopedic Research published the largest number of publications. The journal with the highest citation frequency was Experimental Hematology. The authors with the highest output and the highest citation frequency on average were Rochy S. Tuan and Scott A. Rodeo, respectively. "Mesenchymal stem cell", "in vitro" and "Differentiation" were the top three keywords that appeared. From the keyword analysis, the current research trend indicates that the primary research hotspots of MSCs in orthopedics are the source of MSCs, in vitro experiments and the differentiation of MSCs into bone and cartilage. The frontiers of this field are the combination of MSCs and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), the treatment of knee diseases such as osteoarthritis, osteogenic differentiation, and the application of biological scaffolds combined with MSCs. Conclusion Over the past 2 decades, the application of MSCs in orthopedic diseases has received increasing attention. Our bibliometric analysis results provide valuable information and research trends for researchers in the field to understand the basic knowledge of the field, identify current research hotspots, potential collaborators, and future research frontiers.

Abstract
BackgroundCentral nervous system tumor (CNST) is one of the most complicated and lethal forms of human tumors with very limited treatment options. In recent years, growing evidence indicates that oncolytic virotherapy (OVT) has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for CNSTs. And a considerable amount of literature on OVT-CNSTs has been published. However, there are still no studies summarizing the global research trends and hotspots of this field through a bibliometric approach. To fulfill this knowledge gap, bibliometric analysis was conducted based on all publications relating to OVT-CNSTs since 2000s.MethodsWe searched the Web of Science Core Collection for all relevant studies published between 2000 and 2022. Four different tools (online analysis platform, R-bibliometrix, CiteSpace and VOSviewer) were used to perform bibliometric analysis and network visualization, including annual publication output, active journals, contribution of countries, institutions, and authors, references, as well as keywords.ResultsA total of 473 articles and reviews were included. The annual number of publications on OVT-CNSTs showed a significant increasing trend. Molecular Therapy and Cancer Research were the most active and co-cited journals, respectively. In terms of contributions, there is no doubt that the United States occupied a leading position with the most publications (n=307, 64.9%) and the highest H-index (57). The institution and author that contributed the largest number of publications were Ohio State University and Chiocca EA, respectively. As can be seen from citation analysis, the current studies mainly focused on preclinical and phase I/II clinical results of various oncolytic virus for CNSTs treatment. Keywords co-occurrence and burst analysis revealed that the following research topics including immunotherapy, T-cells, tumor microenvironment, vaccine, blood-brain-barrier, checkpoint inhibitors, macrophage, stem cell, and recurrent glioblastoma have been research frontiers of this field and also have great potential to continue to be research hotspots in the future.ConclusionThere has been increasing attention on oncolytic viruses for use as CNSTs therapeutics. Oncolytic immunotherapy is a topic of great concern in this field. This bibliometric study provides a comprehensive analysis of the knowledge base, research hotspots, development perspective in the field of OVT-CNSTs, which could become an essential reference for scholars in this area.

Abstract
ObjectiveUsing visual bibliometric analysis, the application and development of artificial intelligence in clinical esophageal cancer are summarized, and the research progress, hotspots, and emerging trends of artificial intelligence are elucidated.MethodsOn April 7th, 2022, articles and reviews regarding the application of AI in esophageal cancer, published between 2000 and 2022 were chosen from the Web of Science Core Collection. To conduct co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence analysis of countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in this field, VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (version 5.8.R3), Microsoft Excel 2019, R 4.2, an online bibliometric platform (http://bibliometric.com/) and an online browser plugin (https://www.altmetric.com/) were used.ResultsA total of 918 papers were included, with 23,490 citations. 5,979 authors, 39,962 co-cited authors, and 42,992 co-cited papers were identified in the study. Most publications were from China (317). In terms of the H-index (45) and citations (9925), the United States topped the list. The journal “New England Journal of Medicine” of Medicine, General & Internal (IF = 91.25) published the most studies on this topic. The University of Amsterdam had the largest number of publications among all institutions. The past 22 years of research can be broadly divided into two periods. The 2000 to 2016 research period focused on the classification, identification and comparison of esophageal cancer. Recently (2017-2022), the application of artificial intelligence lies in endoscopy, diagnosis, and precision therapy, which have become the frontiers of this field. It is expected that closely esophageal cancer clinical measures based on big data analysis and related to precision will become the research hotspot in the future.ConclusionsAn increasing number of scholars are devoted to artificial intelligence-related esophageal cancer research. The research field of artificial intelligence in esophageal cancer has entered a new stage. In the future, there is a need to continue to strengthen cooperation between countries and institutions. Improving the diagnostic accuracy of esophageal imaging, big data-based treatment and prognosis prediction through deep learning technology will be the continuing focus of research. The application of AI in esophageal cancer still has many challenges to overcome before it can be utilized.

Abstract
Background Autoimmune diseases (AIDs) are a class of chronic disabling diseases characterized by inflammation and damage to muscles, joints, bones, and internal organs. Recent studies have shown that much progress has been made in the research of exosomes in AIDs. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hotspots of exosomes in AIDs through bibliometrics. Method Publications related to exosomes in AIDs from 2002 to 2021 were searched on the web of science core collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewers, CiteSpace and R package “bibliometrix” were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. Results 312 articles from 48 countries led by China and the United States were included. The number of publications related to exosomes in AIDs is increasing year by year. Central South University, Sun Yat Sen University, Tianjin Medical University and University of Pennsylvania are the main research institutions. Frontiers in immunology is the most popular journal in this field, and Journal of Immunology is the most co-cited journal. These publications come from 473 authors among which Ilias Alevizos, Qianjin Lu, Wei Wei, Jim Xiang and Ming Zhao had published the most papers and Clotilde Théry was co-cited most often. Studying the mechanism of endogenous exosomes in the occurrence and development of AIDs and the therapeutic strategy of exogenous exosomes in AIDs are the main topics in this research field. “Mesenchymal stem cells”, “microRNA”, “biomarkers”, “immunomodulation”, and “therapy” are the primary keywords of emerging research hotspots. Conclusion This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively summarizes the research trends and developments of exosomes in AIDs. This information identifies recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a reference for scholars studying exosomes.

Abstract
BackgroundDiabetes mellitus (DM) have become seriously threatens to human health and life quality worldwide. As a systemic metabolic disease, multiple studies have revealed that DM is related to metabolic bone diseases and always induces higher risk of fracture. In view of this, the links between bone metabolism (BM) and DM (BMDM) have gained much attention and numerous related papers have been published. Nevertheless, no prior studies have yet been performed to analyze the field of BMDM research through bibliometric approach. To fill this knowledge gap, we performed a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the global scientific publications in this field.MethodsArticles and reviews regarding BMDM published between 2000 and 2021 were obtained from the Web of Science after manually screening. VOSviewer 1.6.16, CiteSpace V 5.8.R3, Bibliometrix, and two online analysis platforms were used to conduct the bibliometric and visualization analyses.ResultsA total of 2,525 documents including 2,255 articles and 270 reviews were retrieved. Our analysis demonstrated a steady increasing trend in the number of publications over the past 22 years (R2 = 0.989). The United States has occupied the leading position with the largest outputs and highest H-index. University of California San Francisco contributed the most publications, and Schwartz AV was the most influential author. Collaboration among institutions from different countries was relatively few. The journals that published the most BMDM-related papers were Bone and Osteoporosis International. Osteoporosis and related fractures are the main bone metabolic diseases of greatest concern in this field. According to co-cited references result, “high glucose environment,” “glycation end-product” and “sodium-glucose co-transporter” have been recognized as the current research focus in this domain. The keywords co-occurrence analysis indicated that “diabetic osteoporosis,” “osteoarthritis,” “fracture risk,” “meta-analysis,” “osteogenic differentiation,” “bone regeneration,” “osteogenesis,” and “trabecular bone score” might remain the research hotspots and frontiers in the near future.ConclusionAs a cross-discipline research field, the links between bone metabolism and diabetes mellitus are attracting increased attention. Osteoporosis and related fractures are the main bone metabolic diseases of greatest concern in this field. These insights may be helpful for clinicians to recognize diabetic osteopenia and provide more attention and support to such patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the global research trends and hotspots of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) through qualitative and quantitative analysis of bibliometrics. METHODS All publications on SONFH published from 1992 to 2021 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace was used for the visualization analysis of major countries, active institutions, productive authors, and the burst of keywords. VOSviewer was used for coupling analysis of countries/regions, institutions, and authors. Microsoft Excel 2017 was used for statistical analysis, drawing bar charts, pie charts, and cumulative area charts. The software of MapInfo was used to draw the distribution map of the publications. RESULTS A total of 780 publications were included for analyses. The most productive year was 2020 with 98 records. China was the most influential country with 494 publications, an H-index of 59, and total citations of 16820. The most prolific institution was Shanghai Jiaotong University in China with 53 publications and 998 citations. Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (IF = 4.755, 2021) was the most active journal with 26 articles. The hot keywords were "osteonecrosis", "avascular necrosis", "osteogenic differentiation", "proliferation", "PPAR gamma", "apoptosis", "oxidative stress", "genetic polymorphism" and "mesenchymal stem cells". The keywords like "proliferation", "PPAR gamma" and "genome-wide" have emerged in recent years. CONCLUSION The number of publications in SONFH has increased significantly in the last three decades. The pathologic mechanism of SONFH gathered most research interests. Genomics and cell molecular biology of SONFH are the research frontiers.
