Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) is linked to an increased risk of frailty, yet it remains unclear whether the non-insulin-based IR indicators are associated with frailty trajectories and physical function decline. It aimed to examine the associations of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR), estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) and with long-term deficit-accumulation frailty trajectories and physical function decline. METHODS Data from 6722 participants in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were analyzed. Baseline TyG index, METS-IR, eGDR, along with the frailty index (FI) over nine years, were calculated. FI trajectories were assessed using group-based trajectory model (GBTM). Logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations between IR indicators with FI trajectory and frailty risk. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) models were utilized to detect potential dose-response associations. Linear mixed-effects model was used to evaluate associations with FI development speed. Age, gender, educational level, marital status, smoking status, drinking status, life satisfaction, social activity and sleep duration were adjusted. Additionally, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was performed to assess the causality of observed associations. RESULTS Three FI trajectories including low-stable frailty, moderate-increasing frailty, and accelerated rising frailty were identified. Regarding the frail risk, each SD increment in TyG index was associated with a 16.1% increase in the risk of frailty (OR = 1.161; 95%CI: 1.092, 1.235). An inverse association was observed for eGDR with the OR (95%CI) being 0.741 (0.696, 0.788). A linear relationship was observed between baseline TyG index and frailty risk (P nonlinear = 0.696), but nonlinear association patterns for eGDR (P nonlinearity < 0.010) and METS-IR (P nonlinearity < 0.010). Each SD increment of TyG index was associated with greater FI increase (β = 0.005 SD/y; 95%CI = 0.002, 0.008 SD/y; P < 0.001). A similar association pattern was observed for METS-IR, and participants in the highest quartile of METS-IR showed significantly greater FI progression, with β value of 0.013 (95% CI = 0.004, 0.022). Each SD increment of eGDR was associated with a slower increase in FI (β=-0.006 SD/y, 95% CI=-0.009, -0.003 SD/y; P < 0.001). Participants in the highest quartile of eGDR presented a lower annual change in FI compared with participants in quartile 1 group during follow-up (β=-0.013 SD/y, 95% CI=-0.022, -0.005 SD/y; P for trend = 0.001). Similar findings were observed for physical function decline. Findings from MR analysis showed a causal relationship between higher TyG index and increased risk of frailty (β = 0.214, 95% CI = 0.079, 0.349; P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS The non-insulin-based IR indicators, including TyG index, METS-IR and eGDR, were independently associated with the frailty progression and physical function decline. Monitoring and managing abnormal glucose metabolism should be recommended as a part of comprehensive strategies to prevent or delay the progression of frailty.

Abstract
Background As a major noncommunicable disease, stroke poses a major threat to public health. In the context of predictive, preventative, and personalised medicine (PPPM/3PM), early identification of high-risk individuals is crucial for targeted prevention and personalised treatment for stroke. This study aimed to investigate the association between changes in the Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance Index (METS-IR) and incident stroke. From the perspective of PPPM/3PM, we hypothesised that monitoring dynamic changes of the METs-IR levels and targeting cumulative METs-IR index contribute to risk prediction, targeted prevention, and personalised management of stroke. Methods All data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), a nationwide prospective cohort study. The individuals were categorised into four subgroups based on the quartiles (Q) of the cumulative METS-IR index as a reflection of changes in the METS-IR values from 2012 to 2015. Logistic regression was employed to examine the association between cumulative METS-IR index and stroke incidence. Additionally, restricted cubic spline regression analysis was used to assess potential linearity. Results Among the 4288 participants, 275 (6.4%) experienced a stroke. The risk of stroke events increased with higher cumulative METS-IR index levels. Compared with the lowest quartile (Q1), the OR of having a stroke was 1.20 (0.81, 1.78) for Q2, 1.51 (1.04, 2.21) for Q3 and 2.17 (1.52, 3.10) for the highest quartile (Q4). After adjusting for multiple potential confounders, Q4 (OR: 1.57, 95% CI: 1.04, 2.35) remained significantly associated with stroke. The association between the cumulative METS-IR index and stroke incidence was linear in males, females, and the overall population (all P values for nonlinearity > 0.05). Conclusions A higher cumulative METS-IR index was associated with an increased risk of incident stroke among middle-aged and older Chinese individuals. In the context of PPPM/3PM, incorporating metabolic health into stroke risk assessment advances the prediction, prevention and personalised management of stroke. Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the association between triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), and related parameters (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC) with prehypertension and hypertension over 45 years old. According to the blood pressure diagnosis, the enrolled individuals were divided into two groups, which were prehypertension and hypertension. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for confounders, the highest quartile groups of TG/HDL-c, TyG, and related parameters showed a significantly increased risk of hypertension compared to the lowest quartile groups, and there was associated with hypertension when comparing the highest TG/HDL-c to the lowest TG/HDL-c and corresponding ORs were 1.416 (1.234, 1.625) and 1.029 (0.893, 1.187), respectively. Furthermore, when comparing the fourth quartile to the first quartile of TG/HDL-c, TyG index, and related parameters, respectively, both corresponding ORs of hypertension were higher than prehypertension. Elevated TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC index, and TG/HDL-c ratio levels were associated with hypertension in individuals over 45 years. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic curve was used to compare the predictive ability of each parameter in identifying people with hypertension suggested that the TyG-WC index ([Area under the curve] AUC: 0.601 [CI: 0.588-0.615]), TyG-BMI, and TyG were more significant than TG/HDL-c in distinguishing hypertension. However, in the prehypertension population, the area under the ROC curve for TyG-BMI (0.543 [CI: 0.530-0.556]) was better than that of other parameters. They have the potential to become cost-effective monitors in the hierarchical management of hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR), hyperuricemia (HUA), and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) elevate the risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders, while also impacting reproductive health. The relationship between IR, HUA, and RPL has not been thoroughly investigated. This study investigates the relationship between four IR surrogates and the risk of HUA in RPL patients. METHODS Data from a real-world study on RPL in China were analyzed using multivariable regression to determine the relationship between HUA and triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-c) ratio, and metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR). The predictive ability of these surrogates for detecting HUA in RPL patients was evaluated using the area under the curve and receiver operating characteristic analysis. Sensitivity analysis was performed using bootstrapping resampling. RESULTS The study included 769 patients with a mean age of 30 ± 4 years old, 8.32% of whom had HUA. Four IR surrogates were closely related to HUA in patients of RPL after adjusting for age, menstrual cycle, creatinine, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, total cholesterol, homocysteine, and low-density lipoprotein, with area under the curve values of TyG index (OR = 0.693, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.626, 0.759), TyG-BMI (OR = 0.731 95% CI: 0.657, 0.805), TG/HDL-C (OR = 0.703, 95% CI: 0.641, 0.764), and METS-IR (OR = 0.728, 95% CI: 0.655, 0.799). Bootstrap resampling yielded similar results. CONCLUSIONS The TyG index, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-c, and METS-IR significantly correlated with HUA in patients with RPL. The TyG-BMI had the highest predictive value of the four IR surrogates.

Abstract
Objective To compare the associations of three surrogate markers of insulin resistance (IR) [glucose and triglycerides (TyG index), TyG index with BMI (TyG-BMI), and the ratio of triglycerides divided by HDL-C (TG/HDL-C)] with hypertensive patients (HTN) plus hyperuricemia (HUA) (HTN-HUA) in young, non-obese individuals. Methods Data from a cross-sectional epidemiological study of an annual health check-up population aged younger than 66 years were used to calculate the three IR surrogate indexes. The association with HTN-HUA and insulin resistance surrogates was examined with multinomial logistic regression and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results A total of 6952 participants were included, including 671 (9.65%) participants with HTN alone, 272 (3.91%) participants with HUA alone, and 62 (0.90%) participants with HTN and HUA. Binary multiple-logistic regression results showed that TG/HDL-C was significantly correlated with HTN, HUA, and HTN-HUA. Compared with the lowest quartile, the odds ratios (95% CI) of the highest quartile of TG/HDL-C for HTN-HUA were 3.462 (1.138~10.530). TG/HDL-C and TyG-BMI had moderate discriminative abilities for HTN-HUA, and the area under the curve was 0.748 (0.682~0.815), 0.746 (0.694~0.798). Conclusion Our study suggests that TG/HDL-C had a significant correlation with HTN-HUA and that TG/HDL-C had moderate discriminative abilities for HTN-HUA.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study explored the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG), TyG index with body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C), metabolic score for insulin resistance (IR) (METS-IR) and the risk of esophageal cancer. METHODS A total of 388,900 participants from the United Kingdom Biobank from 2006 to 2010 were included. Fine-Gray models, restricted cubic spline (RCS), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the association between the four IR surrogates and the risk of esophageal cancer, specifically, esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). RESULTS Ten years after recruitment, 0.16% (95%CI 0.11-0.26%) had esophageal cancer and 4.17% (95%CI 3.86-4.46%) are deceased. For each standard deviation increase in the TyG index, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-C, and METS-IR, the risk of EAC increased by Hazard ratios (HR)1.16, 1.37, 1.08, and 1.36, respectively (all P < 0.05), while the risk of ESCC decreased by HRs 0.80, 0.67, 0.77, and 0.65, respectively. RCS analysis indicated that most relationships were nonlinear (P < 0.05). ROC curves showed that METS-IR had a more robust diagnostic efficacy than TyG, TyG-BMI, and TG/HDL-C. CONCLUSION TyG index, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-C, and METS-IR were closely associated with the risk of EAC and ESCC. Additionally, METS-IR surpassed the other three IR indices in predicting and diagnosing the risks of EAC and ESCC. The METS-IR is expected to become a more effective metric for identifying populations at early risk of esophageal cancer and for improving risk stratification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Copper (Cu) homeostasis are important processes in the cause of metabolic diseases, but the association between Cu and obesity remains unclear. METHODS Participants were drawn from the 2011-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Weighted logistic regression assessed the associations of serum Cu concentrations (tertiles) with obesity and central obesity in individuals without comorbidities. Obesity was defined as a BMI ≥30.0 kg/m2, and central obesity was defined as a waist circumference ≥80 cm for women and ≥95 cm for men. RESULTS This cross-sectional study included 1,665 adults without comorbidities, representing 24,744,034 people (mean age 35.1 years, 48.5% female). High serum Cu levels (tertile 3: ≥19.19 μmol/L) were associated with higher odds of obesity (adjusted odds ratio [OR]: 4.48, 95% CI[confidence interval]: 2.44-8.32) and central obesity (OR: 2.36, 95% CI: 1.19-4.66) compared to low serum Cu levels (tertile 1: ≤15.64 μmol/L). The dose-response curve showed a nonlinear association between Cu levels and obesity (P-nonlinear = 0.02) and a linear association with central obesity (P-nonlinear = 0.21). CONCLUSION This study suggests that higher serum Cu levels are associated with increased odds of obesity in healthy American adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and its related parameters have been introduced as cost-effective surrogate indicators of insulin resistance, while prospective evidence of their effects on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remained scattered and inconsistent. We aimed to evaluate the association of TyG and its related parameters with new-onset ASCVD, and the predictive capacity were further compared. METHOD A total of 95,342 ASCVD-free participants were enrolled from the Kailuan study. TyG and its related parameters were defined by fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, body mass index (BMI), waist circumstance (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). The primary outcome was incident ASCVD, comprising myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic stroke (IS). Cox proportional hazard models and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were adopted to investigate the association between each index and ASCVD. The C-index, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and net reclassification improvement (NRI) were used for comparison of their predictive value for ASCVD. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 15.0 years, 8,031 new cases of ASCVD were identified. The incidence rate of ASCVD increased along with elevated levels of each index, and the relationships were found to be nonlinear in the RCS analyses. The hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for ASCVD was 1.39 (1.35, 1.43), 1.46 (1.41, 1.50), 1.50 (1.46, 1.55), and 1.52 (1.48, 1.57) per 1 IQR increase of baseline TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHtR, respectively, and the association were more pronounced for females and younger individuals aged < 60 years (Pfor interaction<0.05). Using the updated mean or time-varying measurements instead of baseline indicators did not significantly alter the primary findings. Additionally, TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR showed better performance in predicting risk of ASCVD than TyG, with the IDI (95% CI) of 0.004 (0.001, 0.004) and 0.004 (0.001, 0.004) and the category-free NRI (95% CI) of 0.120 (0.025, 0.138) and 0.143 (0.032, 0.166), respectively. Similar findings were observed for MI and IS. CONCLUSIONS Both the TyG index and its related parameters were significantly and positively associated with ASCVD. TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR had better performance in predicting incident ASCVD than TyG, which might be more suitable indices for risk stratification and enhance the primary prevention of ASCVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM To explore the association of triglyceride glucose index-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and its dynamic changes with the risk of hypertension among middle-aged and older Chinese adults based on a large-sample prospective cohort study. METHODS AND RESULTS Participants over 45 years old and without a history of hypertension were included from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study registry. Data were collected in 2011 and followed up in 2015. TyG index and TyG-BMI were calculated as ln (triglyceride∗glucose/2) and TyG index∗BMI, respectively. We performed multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify the relationship between the TyG index, TyG-BMI and their dynamic change and the risk of hypertension. In the analyses, 3885 participants were included. After 4 years of follow-up, 1705 (43.89 %) patients developed hypertension. Logistic regression analysis revealed that after adjustments for all potential confounding factors, the highest tertile of baseline TyG index, baseline TyG-BMI, and the dynamic change in TyG-BMI were each associated with higher hypertension incidence than the lowest tertile: OR,1.38, 95 % CI, 1.17-1.63, OR,1.28, 95 % CI, 1.06-1.56, and OR, 1.26, 95 % CI, 1.07-1.48, respectively, whereas TyG index change was not. Moreover, the risk of hypertension increased with increasing levels of baseline TyG index (P for trend < 0.001), baseline TyG-BMI (P for trend = 0.013), and the dynamic change in TyG-BMI (P for trend = 0.006). CONCLUSIONS The baseline TyG index, baseline TyG-BMI, and the dynamic changes in TyG-BMI were significantly and positively associated with the risk of hypertension in Chinese adults older than 45 years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) significantly contributes to cardiovascular disease (CVD) development. Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) are recognised as convenient proxies for IR. However, their relationship with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) remains unclear. METHODS This prospective cohort analysis included 355,242 UK Biobank participants with available TyG index and TyG-BMI data and no history of CVD. Cox proportional risk models assessed the association between the TyG index, TyG-BMI and SCA risk. Additionally, Accelerated Failure Time (AFT) models were employed to investigate the timing of SCA onset. The impact of dynamic increases in TyG index and TyG-BMI levels on SCA risk was examined using restricted cubic spline. RESULTS Over a median follow-up period of 165.4 months (interquartile range 156.5-174 months), 1,622 cases of SCA were recorded. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed a 9% increase in SCA risk per standard deviation increase in TyG index (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-1.15) and an 14% increase per standard deviation increase in TyG-BMI (aHR 1.14, 95% CI 1.09-1.2). AFT models indicated earlier median times to SCA occurrence with increasing quintiles of TyG index and TyG-BMI compared to the lowest quintile (P for trend < 0.05). SCA risk was linearly (P = 0.54) and non-linearly (P = 0.007) correlated with gradual increases in TyG index and TyG-BMI levels, respectively. Sex-stratified analyses showed stronger associations in women. CONCLUSIONS Higher TyG index and TyG-BMI levels are associated with an increased SCA risk and earlier onset, particularly in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Novel markers of insulin resistance and progression of atherosclerosis include the triglycerides and glucose index (TyG index), the triglycerides and body mass index (Tyg-BMI) and the metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR). Establishing independent risk factors for in-hospital death and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) remains critical. The aim of the study was to assess the risk of in-hospital death and MACCE within 12 months after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) in patients with and without T2DM based on TyG index, Tyg-BMI and METS-IR. METHODS Retrospective analysis included 1706 patients with STEMI and NSTEMI hospitalized between 2013 and 2021. We analyzed prognostic value of TyG index, Tyg-BMI and METS-IR for in-hospital death and MACCE as its components (death from any cause, MI, stroke, revascularization) within 12 months after STEMI or NSTEMI in patients with and without T2DM. RESULTS Of 1706 patients, 58 in-hospital deaths were reported (29 patients [4.3%] in the group with T2DM and 29 patients [2.8%] in the group without T2DM; p = 0.1). MACCE occurred in 18.9% of the total study population (25.8% in the group with T2DM and 14.4% in the group without T2DM; p < 0.001). TyG index, Tyg-BMI and METS-IR were significantly higher in the group of patients with T2DM compared to those without T2DM (p < 0.001). Long-term MACCE were more prevalent in patients with T2DM (p < 0.001). The area under the ROC curve (AUC-ROC) for the prediction of in-hospital death and the TyG index was 0.69 (p < 0.001). The ROC curve for predicting in-hospital death based on METS-IR was 0.682 (p < 0.001). The AUC-ROC values for MACCE prediction based on the TyG index and METS-IR were 0.582 (p < 0.001) and 0.57 (p < 0.001), respectively. CONCLUSIONS TyG index was an independent risk factor for in-hospital death in patients with STEMI or NSTEMI. TyG index, TyG-BMI and METS-IR were not independent risk factors for MACCE at 12 month follow-up. TyG index and METS-IR have low predictive value in predicting MACCE within 12 months after STEMI and NSTEMI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) index and mortality in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between TyG-BMI with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among elderly DM patients in the United States (US). METHODS Patients aged over 60 years with DM from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2016) were included in this study. The study endpoints were all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and the morality data were extracted from the National Death Index (NDI) which records up to December 31, 2019. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to explore the association between TyG-BMI index with mortality. Restricted cubic spline was used to model nonlinear relationships. RESULTS A total of 1363 elderly diabetic patients were included, and were categorized into four quartiles. The mean age was 70.0 ± 6.8 years, and 48.6% of them were female. Overall, there were 429 all-cause deaths and 123 cardiovascular deaths were recorded during a median follow-up of 77.3 months. Multivariate Cox regression analyses indicated that compared to the 1st quartile (used as the reference), the 3rd quartile demonstrated a significant association with all-cause mortality (model 2: HR = 0.64, 95% CI 0.46-0.89, P = 0.009; model 3: HR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.43-0.96, P = 0.030). Additionally, the 4th quartile was significantly associated with cardiovascular mortality (model 2: HR = 1.83, 95% CI 1.01-3.30, P = 0.047; model 3: HR = 2.45, 95% CI 1.07-5.57, P = 0.033). The restricted cubic spline revealed a U-shaped association between TyG-BMI index with all-cause mortality and a linear association with cardiovascular mortality, after adjustment for possible confounding factors. CONCLUSIONS A U-shaped association was observed between the TyG-BMI index with all-cause mortality and a linear association was observed between the TyG-BMI index with cardiovascular mortality in elderly patients with DM in the US population.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the association between triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) and related parameters (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHR, and TyG-WHtR) with hypertension and cardiovascular risk. Additionally, the study aimed to compare the performance of these parameters in identifying patients with hypertension and high cardiovascular risk and determine appropriate indicators for the prediction of cardiovascular risk. Residents from a community in Beijing, China, who underwent health examinations at a regional hospital between December 2011 and August 2012, were recruited. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association between each parameter with hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to compare the predictive ability of each parameter in identifying people with hypertension or high cardiovascular risk. A total of 16,834 participants were included. After adjusting for confounders, the highest quartile groups of TyG and related parameters showed a significantly increased risk of hypertension compared to the lowest quartile groups. Among the parameters, TyG-WC exhibited the highest diagnostic efficacy for hypertension [area under the curve (AUC): 0.665, 95% CI: 0.656-0.673] followed by TyG-WHtR, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHR, and TyG index. Similarly, the highest quartile groups of each parameter demonstrated significantly increased risks of high cardiovascular risk compared to the lowest quartile groups. TyG-WHR performed best in distinguishing participants with high cardiovascular risk (AUC: 0.718, 95% CI: 0.710-0.726) followed by TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR, TyG-BMI, and TyG index. In conclusion, TyG-related parameters had independent associations with hypertension and cardiovascular risk. TyG-WHR exhibited the highest efficacy in distinguishing participants with high cardiovascular risk, which might contribute to the primary prevention of CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) plays a crucial role in the occurrence and progression of diabetes. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the predictive value of four IR surrogates, including the triglycerides glucose (TyG) index, TyG and body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, and the metabolic score for IR (MetS-IR) for diabetes in two large cohorts. METHODS A total of 116,661 adult participants from the China Rich Healthcare Group and 15,464 adult participants from the Japanese NAGALA cohort were included in the study. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the standardized hazard ratio (HR) of the TyG index, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-C ratio, and MetS-IR directly associated with diabetes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and time-dependent ROC curve analysis were performed to evaluate and compare the predictive value of the four IR surrogates for diabetes. RESULTS In the two independent cohorts, the average follow-up time was 3.1 years in the China cohort, with 2681(2.30%) incident cases of diabetes recorded, and 6.13 years in the Japan cohort, with 373 incident cases (2.41%) of diabetes recorded. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, we found that among the four IR surrogates, TyG-BMI and MetS-IR showed stronger associations with diabetes. The stronger associations persisted even after further stratification by age, sex, hypertension, and obese subgroups. In terms of diabetes prediction, based on ROC analysis, TyG-BMI demonstrated the highest predictive accuracy for diabetes in the Chinese population, while both TyG-BMI and MetS-IR showed the highest predictive accuracy in the Japanese population. The results of further subgroup ROC analysis confirmed the robustness of these findings. Furthermore, the time-dependent ROC results indicated that among the four IR surrogates, MetS-IR exhibited the highest accuracy in predicting future diabetes at various time intervals in the Japanese population. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that evaluating TyG-BMI and MetS-IR as IR surrogates may be the most useful for predicting diabetes events and assessing the risk of developing diabetes in East Asian populations.

Abstract
Triglyceride glycemic-body mass index (TyG-BMI) is a simple and reliable surrogate for insulin resistance (IR). However, it is still unclear if TyG-BMI has any predictive value in patients having percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The purpose of this study was to examine the TyG-BMI index's prognostic significance and predictive power in patients with STEMI. The study comprised a total of 2648 consecutive STEMI patients who underwent PCI. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), defined as the combination of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, and coronary revascularization. The TyG-BMI index was formulated as ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2] × BMI. 193 patients in all experienced MACE over a median follow-up of 14.7 months. There was a statistically significant difference between the Kaplan-Meier survival curves for the TyG-BMI index tertiles (log-rank test, p = 0.019) for the cumulative incidence of MACE. The adjusted HRs for the incidence of MACE in the middle and highest quartiles of the TyG-BMI index compared with the lowest quartile were 1.37 (95% CI 0.92, 2.03) and 1.53 (95% CI 1.02, 2.29), respectively, in the fully adjusted Cox regression model. At six months, one year, and three years, the TyG-BMI area under the curve (AUC) for predicting MACE was 0.691, 0.666, and 0.637, respectively. Additionally, adding the TyG-BMI index to the risk prediction model enhanced outcome prediction. In STEMI patients undergoing PCI, TyG-BMI was independently linked to MACE. TyG-BMI could be a simple and solid way to assess MACE risk and prognosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Findings from earlier research have established that insulin resistance (IR) is implicated in atherosclerosis progression, representing a noteworthy risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Recently, the triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) has been introduced as a straightforward and robust alternative indicator for early detection of IR. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of studies that have examined the capability of TyG-BMI for predicting incident CVD. Consequently, the core objective of this study was to determine whether the cumulative average TyG-BMI correlated with CVD incidence. METHODS All data was sourced from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The exposure was the cumulative average TyG-BMI, determined by the average of TyG-BMI values for the baseline and follow-up investigations (Wave 1 in 2011, Wave 3 in 2015, respectively). The calculation of TyG-BMI involved a combination of triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, and body mass index. The primary outcome was incident CVD. Logistic regression analyses as well as restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression analyses were performed for examining the association between the cumulative average TyG-BMI and CVD incidence. RESULTS In all, 5,418 participants were enrolled in our analysis, with 2,904 (53.6%) being female, and a mean (standard deviation, SD) age of 59.6 (8.8) years. The mean (SD) cumulative average TyG-BMI among all participants was 204.9 (35.7). Totally, during a 4-year follow-up, 543 (10.0%) participants developed CVD. The fully adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed a significant association between the cumulative average TyG-BMI and incident CVD [odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.168, 1.040-1.310, per 1 SD increase]. The RCS regression analysis displayed a positive, linear association of the cumulative average TyG-BMI with CVD incidence (P for overall = 0.038, P for nonlinear = 0.436). CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed a noteworthy correlation between the cumulative average TyG-BMI and incident CVD among the middle-aged and older population. The cumulative average TyG-BMI emerges as a valuable tool that may enhance the primary prevention and treatment of CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the relationship between novel insulin resistance (IR) indices and the presence and severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study involving 2211 patients. The study outcomes were DR events. The study exposures were IR indices including estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), natural logarithm of glucose disposal rate (lnGDR), metabolic insulin resistance score (METS-IR), triglyceride glucose index-body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglyceride glucose index-waist-to-hip ratio (TyG-WHR), and triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(TG/HDL-c ratio). We used binary and multivariate ordered logistic regression models to estimate the association between different IR indices and the presence and severity of DR. Subject work characteristic curves were used to assess the predictive power of different IR indices for DR. RESULTS DR was present in 25.4% of participants. After adjusting for all covariates, per standard deviation (SD) increases in eGDR (ratio [OR] 0.38 [95% CI 0.32-0.44]), lnGDR (0.34 [0.27-0.42]) were negatively associated with the presence of DR. In contrast, per SD increases in METS-IR (1.97 [1.70-2.28]), TyG-BMI (1.94 [1.68-2.25]), TyG-WHR (2.34 [2.01-2.72]) and TG/HDL-c ratio (1.21 [1.08-1.36]) were positively associated with the presence of DR. eGDR was strongly associated with severity of DR. Of all variables, eGDR had the strongest diagnostic value for DR (AUC = 0.757). CONCLUSIONS Of the six IR indices, eGDR was significantly associated with the presence and severity of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes. eGDR has a good predictive value for DR. Thus, eGDR maybe a stronger marker of DR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride glucose-body mass (TyG-BMI) index is acknowledged as both a reliable indicator of the risk of cardiovascular disease and an accurate surrogate biomarker for evaluating insulin resistance (IR). The importance of the TyG-BMI index among people with heart failure (HF), however, requires more investigation. The objective of this study was to inquire about the relationship between HF patients' TyG-BMI index and their risk of 360-day mortality. METHODS The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-IV) database provided the study's patient data, which were divided into quartiles according to their TyG-BMI index. The endpoint was mortality from all causes within 360 days. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to compare this primary endpoint amongst the four groups indicated above. The association between the TyG-BMI index and the endpoint was investigated using restricted cubic splines and Cox proportional hazards analysis. RESULTS The study enrolled a total of 423 patients with HF (59.2% male), of whom 70 patients (16.9%) died within 360 days. Patients with higher TyG-BMI indexes had significantly lower mortality risks, according to the Kaplan-Meier analysis (log-rank P = 0.003). Furthermore, the restricted cubic spline analysis illustrated a decrease in the risk of all-cause mortality with an increasing TyG-BMI index. Additionally, multivariable Cox proportional hazards analyses showed that the risk of 360-day death from all causes was considerably higher in the lowest quartile of TyG-BMI. In comparison to the lowest TyG-BMI group, the fully adjusted Cox model yielded a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.24 (95% CI: 0.10, 0.59; p = 0.002) for 360-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS In patients diagnosed with HF, a lower TyG-BMI index is strongly related to a higher risk of 360-day mortality. This index can be employed to categorize the risk levels of patients with HF and predict their one-year all-cause mortality .

Abstract
Background Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been reported to be associated with various cardiovascular diseases in recent years. However, the conclusive association between the TyG index and hypertension was not established in the last meta-analysis. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether a linear relationship exists between these two variables. Methods We conducted a comprehensive search of the CNKI, VIP, WanFang Data, CBM, PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library databases up until May 10, 2023, to identify relevant studies conducted in China. We used Stata version 17.0 and Rstudio version 4.2.1 to analyze the data and assess the association between the TyG index and the risk of hypertension, as well as the dose-response relationship between these two variables. We will select either a random-effects model or a fixed-effects model based on the results of the heterogeneity tests and report 95% confidence intervals accordingly. Results In the end, our analysis encompassed 22 studies involving a total of 668,486 participants, comprising 12 cross-sectional studies and 10 cohort studies. Meta-analysis results showed: Analysis of data from China revealed that an elevated TyG index was associated with a higher risk of developing hypertension, as indicated by an OR/HR of 1.36 [95%CI (1.28-1.45) I2 = 69.0% P < 0.001]. Through meta-regression analysis of multiple covariates, we found that study type, study region, sample size, database source, and study quality score, the above five variables were able to explain 63.0% of the total heterogeneity. The results of the dose-response Meta-analysis showed: The TyG index has a linear relationship with the risk of developing hypertension, as indicated by non-significant coefficients of higher-order terms in the nonlinear model (P > 0.05). The linear trend analysis showed that for every one-unit increase in the TyG index, the risk of developing hypertension increased by 1.5 times [1.532 95%CI (1.294, 1.813) P < 0.001]. However, this result is influenced by the number of studies included in the dose-response analysis and requires further corroboration. Conclusion In the Chinese region, there was an independent association between TyG index and the risk of developing hypertension, with a linear trend. However, the results of the linear trend need to be corrected by the more number of related studies. Abstract
Background and objectives Insulin resistance (IR) is closely related to the decline or deficiency of testosterone in males. Triglyceride glucose-body mass (TyG-BMI) is considered to be a novel indicator of IR. We conducted this analysis to investigate the association between TyG-BMI and male testosterone, and to explore whether its ability to predict testosterone deficiency is superior to HOMA-IR and TyG. Methods This was a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2011-2016). The TyG-BMI index was calculated from serum triglyceride, fasting plasma glucose and BMI. The association of TyG-BMI with male testosterone was estimated by weighted multivariable regression. Results We included 3394 participants for the final analysis. After adjusting for confounders, TyG-BMI was found to show an independent negative association with testosterone (β=-1.12, 95%CI: -1.50, -0.75, P<0.0001). Multivariate-adjusted beta also showed testosterone levels were significantly lower in the two highest TyG-BMI group (Q3, Q4) compared to the lowest group (Q1). Similar results were seen in all of the subgroup populations by stratified analysis (all P-interaction >0.05). Furthermore, ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under the curve of TyG-BMI index (0.73, 95% CI: 0.71, 0.75) was larger than that of HOMA-IR index (0.71, 95% CI: 0.69, 0.73) and TyG index (0.66, 95% CI: 0.64, 0.68). Conclusion Our result suggested a negative association between TyG-BMI index and testosterone in adult males. The predictability of the TyG-BMI index for testosterone deficiency is better than that of HOMA-IR index and TyG index.

Abstract
Police officers in Thailand have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, possibly due to a high prevalence of hypertension and metabolic syndrome (MetS). In this study, the researchers aimed to understand the relationship between surrogate markers of insulin resistance (IR) and the prevalence of MetS and hypertension in Thai police officers. The study included 7,852 police officer participants, of which 91.8% were men with an average age of 48.56 years. The prevalence of hypertension and MetS were found to be 51.1% and 30.8%, respectively, and the participants with MetS and hypertension were older compared to the regular group. The study looked at eight IR indices, including markers such as atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), lipid accumulation product (LAP), metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR), triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, TyG index with body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG index with waist circumference (TyG-WC), the ratio of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c), and visceral obesity index (VAI). These indices were found to be positively correlated with waist circumference, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and triglycerides (TG), while being negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). In addition, the multiple regression analysis showed that higher quartiles of all IR indices were significantly associated with increased risks of MetS and hypertension. Interestingly, the IR indices were more accurate in predicting MetS (ranges 0.848 to 0.892) than traditional obesity indices, with the AUC difference at p < 0.001. Among the IR indices, TyG-WC performed the best in predicting MetS (AUC value 0.892 and Youden index 0.620). At the same time, TyG-BMI had the highest accuracy in predicting hypertension (AUC value of 0.659 and Youden index of 0.236). In addition, this study found that when two markers were combined for diagnosing metabolic syndrome, a significantly improved predictive value for disease risk was observed, as evidenced by higher AUC and Yoden index. Moreover, the IR indices were found to have higher predictive power for MetS and hypertension in younger police personnel (age < 48 years) than older personnel. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of reducing cardiovascular disease risks among law enforcement personnel as a strategic goal to improve their health and wellness. The findings suggest that IR indices may be valuable tools in predicting MetS and hypertension in law enforcement personnel and could potentially aid in the early identification and prevention of law enforcement personnel health conditions.

Abstract
Background There is compelling evidence for an association between triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, data on the relationship between TyG-BMI and prehypertension (pre-HTN) or hypertension (HTN) remains scant. The aim of this study was to characterize the association between TyG-BMI and pre-HTN or HTN risk, and to assess the ability of TyG-BMI in predicting pre-HTN and HTN in Chinese and Japanese populations. Methods A total of 214,493 participants were included in this study. The participants were divided into 5 groups based on quintiles of TyG-BMI index at baseline (Q1, Q2, Q3 Q4 and Q5). Logistic regression analysis was then employed to assess the relationship between TyG-BMI quintiles and pre-HTN or HTN. Results were presented as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results Our restricted cubic spline analysis showed that TyG-BMI was linearly correlated with both pre-HTN and HTN. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that TyG-BMI was independently correlated with pre-HTN [ORs and 95% CIs were 1.011 (1.011-1.012), 1.021 (1.02-1.023), 1.012 (1.012-1.012), respectively] and HTN [ORs and 95% CIs were 1.021 (1.02-1.021), 1.031 (1.028-1.033), 1.021 (1.02-1.021), respectively] in Chinese or Japanese individuals or both groups after adjusting for all variates. In addition, subgroup analyses showed that the relationship between TyG-BMI and pre-HTN or HTN was independent of age, sex, BMI, country, smoking and drinking status. Across all study populations, the areas under the TyG-BMI curve predicting pre-HTN and HTN were 0.667 and 0.762, respectively, resulting in cut-off values of 189.7 and 193.7, respectively. Conclusion Our analyses showed that TyG-BMI was independently correlated with both pre-HTN and HTN. Besides, TyG-BMI showed superior predictive power in predicting pre-HTN and HTN compared to TyG or BMI alone.

Abstract
The metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) is a recently developed parameter for screening of metabolic disorder. However, the association between METS-IR and risk of hypertension in general adult population remains not fully determined. A meta-analysis was therefore performed. Observational studies evaluating the association between METS-IR and hypertension in adults were retrieved by searching PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from inception to October 10, 2022. A random-effects model, which incorporates the potential influence of heterogeneity, was used to pool the results. Eight studies with 305 341 adults were included in the meta-analysis, and 47 887 (15.7%) of them had hypertension. Pooled results showed that a higher METS-IR was associated with hypertension after adjusting for multiple conventional risk factors [relative risk (RR) for highest versus lowest category of METS-IR: 1.67, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.53 to 1.83, p<0.001, I2=8%]. The results were consistent in subgroup analyses according to study design, source of the cohort, age, sex, body mass index of the participants, and quality scores of the study (p for subgroup difference all>0.05). Results of meta-analysis with METS-IR analyzed in continuous variables also showed that METS-IR was associated with the risk of hypertension (RR for 1-unit increment of METS-IR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.08 to 1.23, p<0.001, I2=79%). In conclusion, a high METS-IR is associated with hypertension in general adult population. Measuring METS-IR may be useful for screening participants at high risk of hypertension.

Abstract
The triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) has been considered an alternative marker of insulin resistance (IR). This cross-sectional study was designed to mainly investigate the association between TyG-BMI, triglyceride glucose combined with body mass index, and hypertension in Chinese adults. The relationship between TyG-BMI and hypertension was examined by multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline model. Multiple logistic regression models were also performed to examine the associations between the individual components of TyG-BMI (BMI, TyG index, TG and FBG) and hypertension. The incremental ability of TyG-BMI versus its individual components for hypertension discrimination was evaluated by C-statistic and net reclassification index. Subgroup analysis was performed to examine potential interactions. A total of 92,545 participants (38.9% men, mean age 53.7 years) were included for final analysis. Logistic regression models showed TyG-BMI and its individual components were all significantly associated with the odds of hypertension (p for trend < .001). The restricted cubic spline regression manifested a linear association between TyG-BMI and hypertension (p for non-linear = .062). The addition of TyG-BMI, in comparison with each individual component, exhibited the maximum incremental value for the discrimination of hypertension on the basis of base model (C-statistic: 0.679, 95% CI: 0.675-0.683 for base model vs. 0.695, 95% CI: 0.691-0.699 for base model + TyG-BMI; net reclassification index: 0.226, 95% CI: 0.215-0.234). TyG-BMI was significantly associated with the odds of hypertension and can be a better discriminator of hypertension.
