Abstract
Dietary diversity among children is a crucial factor influencing their nutritional status; therefore, this paper uses data from four rounds of the Cambodia Demographic and Health Survey (CDHS) to examine the minimum dietary diversity among children aged 6-23 months. Multilevel binary regression is used to evaluate the variation in minimum dietary diversity at the cluster and province levels. The results show that nearly half of Cambodian children consistently lacked access to vitamin A-rich fruits and vegetables. Although the prevalence of inadequate minimum dietary diversity (MDD) among children significantly dropped from 76% in 2005 to 51% in 2021-2022, it is still high and needs attention. A decomposition analysis (Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition) was further used to understand the drivers of this temporal change in dietary diversity. The empirical results show that clusters represented the most significant source of geographic variation with respect to all eight food groups and MDD. Nutritional policy should improve education and awareness, reduce socio-economic disparities, leverage media, and promote full antenatal care to improve dietary diversity in Cambodia. Initiatives targeting the enhancement of insufficient minimum dietary diversity intake should encompass individual aspects and be customized to suit geographic and community settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Appropriate complementary feeding plays a crucial role in the enhancement of child survival; and promotes healthy growth and development. Evidence has shown that appropriate complementary feeding is effective in preventing malnutrition and child mortality. Thus, the main objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practice and associated factors among mothers of children aged 6-23 months. METHODOLOGY A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from August to December 2018. A total of 259 mothers who had children aged 6-23 months were selected randomly from the 714 eligible mothers. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from the respondents. The data were collected in a tablet phone-based questionnaire using the Open Data Kit mobile application by face-to-face interview. Data analysis was done in SPSS version 21. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify the factor associated with appropriate complementary feeding practice. RESULT The prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practice was 25%. Mother and father with formal education (AOR 6.1, CI: 1.7-22.4 and AOR 5.6 CI: 1.5-21.2 respectively), counseling on IYCF (AOR 4.2, CI: 1.5-12.3), having kitchen garden (AOR 2.4, CI: 1.1-5.2) and food secured family (AOR 3.0, CI: 1.0-8.9) had higher odds of appropriate complementary feeding practice. CONCLUSION This study revealed that a significant proportion of mothers had inappropriate complementary feeding practice for their children aged 6-23 months. This study highlights the need for behavior change communication and promotion of kitchen garden to address the associated factors and promote appropriate complementary feeding practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Malnutrition is a public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa with an increased morbidity and mortality rate than in other parts of the world. Poor complementary feeding practices are one of the major causes of malnutrition during the first two years of life. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months in sub-Saharan African countries. METHODS A multilevel mixed-effect analysis was carried out using recent demographic health survey data from 19 sub-Saharan African countries, which were conducted between 2015 and 2020. A total weighted sample of 60,266 mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months were included in the study. The demographic health survey employs a stratified two-stage sampling technique. Data extracted from the recent DHS data sets were cleaned, recorded, and analyzed using STATA/SE version 14.0 statistical software. Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with complementary feeding practice. Variables with a p-value less than 0.05 and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were reported as statistically significant variables associated with appropriate complementary feeding practices. RESULTS The prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months in sub-Saharan African countries was 13.02% (95% CI: 12.75-13.29%). Maternal educational level [AOR = 0.69, 95% CI (0.64, 0.74)] and [AOR = 0.52, 95% CI (0.47, 0.57)], marital status of the mother [AOR = 0.85, 95% CI (0.74, 0.96)], sex of household head [AOR = 1.78, 95% CI (1.09, 1.27)], total children ever born [AOR = 1.52, 95% CI (1.18, 1.96)], [AOR = 1.43, 95% CI (1.14, 1.81)], and [AOR = 1.31, 95% CI (1.04, 1.64)], media exposure [AOR = 0.74, 95% CI (0.69, 0.79)], ANC visits attended during pregnancy [AOR = 0.73, 95% CI (0.63, 0.80)] and [AOR = 0.67, 95% CI (0.62, 0.74)], place of delivery [AOR = 0.92, 95% CI (0.85, 0.98)], currently breastfeeding [AOR = 1.12, 95% CI (1.01, 1.23)], PNC checkup [AOR = 0.75, 95% CI (0.70, 0.80)], the current age of the child [AOR = 0.26, 95% CI (0.24, 0.28)] and [AOR = 0.14, 95% CI (0.13, 0.16)], birth order [AOR = 1.31, 95% CI (1.09, 1.58)], number of under 5 children in the household [AOR = 0.76, 95% CI (0.59, 0.97)], community illiteracy [AOR = 1.09, 95% CI (1.02, 1.18)], and country category [AOR = 1.62, 95% CI (1.18, 2.22)] were significantly associated with appropriate complementary feeding practices. CONCLUSION The prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months in sub-Saharan Africa was relatively low. Higher maternal educational level, female household head, having media exposure, attending more ANC visits, health facility delivery, currently breastfeeding, having PNC follow-up, low community illiteracy, and living in the West Africa region increase the odds of appropriate complementary feeding practices. Women empowerment, increasing maternal health services accessibility, promoting breastfeeding behavior, increasing media exposure of the household, and improving the proportion of health facility delivery are strongly recommended.

Abstract
Background and Aims Poor food handling practices contribute to food contamination, leading to food-borne illnesses and childhood diarrhea in developing countries like Ethiopia. This study examines hygienic complementary food feeding practices and associated characteristics among women with children ages 6-24 months in the Dedo District. Method A community-oriented cross-sectional study design was used in a multistage sampling strategy to gather information from 501 mothers of children between May 25 and July 10, 2022. There were absolute and relative frequencies assigned to each variable. Multiple logistic models have been used for factors that were 20% significant in univariate analysis. Odds ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were produced to identify the important predictors. Results This study showed that mothers with a diploma (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 11.2; CI: 5.51-22.8), urban residency (AOR = 6.35; CI: 3.57-11.3), a positive attitude toward hygienic complementary food feeding (AOR = 2.23; CI: 1.19-4.20), good knowledge of complementary food feeding practices (AOR = 3.95; CI: 2.39-6.55), access to a hand washing facility close to the latrine (AOR = 2.60; CI: 1.55-4.36), and access to water close to their home (AOR = 2.42; CI: 1.27-4.59) were highly associated with good hygiene practices of mothers. Conclusion This study shows that mothers of children aged between 6 and 24 months have a very low overall prevalence of good hygienic complementary feeding practices. The concerned parties should therefore establish a healthcare educational program for mothers that emphasizes the importance of hand washing and informs them about the dangers of improper complementary feeding practices.

Abstract
Background Inappropriate complementary feeding practices (IACFPs) are major public health issues in Ethiopia, which usually result in stunting and becoming an intergenerational cycle. However, the spatial patterns and determinants of IACFP and its effect on undernutrition are not well understood in Ethiopia. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the spatial patterns and determinants of IACFPs and their effects on the undernutrition of infants and young children (IYC) in Ethiopia. Methods This was a nationwide community-based survey study among 1,463 mothers of IYC aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia. The global spatial autocorrelation was assessed using the global Moran's-I to evaluate the spatial clustering of IACFPs. Significant clusters with high and low rates of IACFPs were explored. A multilevel mixed-effect logistic regression with cluster-level random effects was fitted to identify determinants of IACFPs with an AOR and 95% CI. Results The prevalence of IACFPs was 90.22%. The spatial pattern of IACFP in Ethiopia was clustered across regions (Global Moran's I = 0.63, Z-score = 12.77, value of p ≤0.001). Clusters with a high rate of IACFP were detected in southern, northwest, and eastern Ethiopia. Individual and community-level variables accounted for 63% of IACFP variation. Mothers with no education were 3.97 times (AOR = 3.97; 95% CI: 1.64-9.60) more likely to have IACFPs than those with higher education. The poorest HHs had 4.80 times the odds of having IACFPs as the richest HHs (AOR = 4.80, 95% CI: 1.23-18.71). The odds of having IACFPs were 2.18 times (AOR = 2.18; 95% CI: 1.28-3.72) higher among babies with no postnatal checkup. Non-breastfed IYC were 2.8 times (AOR = 2.80; 95% CI: 1.29-6.10) more likely to have IACFP when compared with breastfed ones. IYC with the inadequate introduction of solid, semi-solid, and soft foods, inadequate minimum dietary diversity, and inadequate minimum acceptable diet were more likely to have wasting, underweight, and stunting. Conclusion This study showed the prevalence of IACFPs was very high, which had an effect on undernutrition and showed spatial variation in Ethiopia. Therefore, the government of Ethiopia and stakeholders should focus on women with no education and the poorest HHs, encourage PNC checkups, and encourage breastfeeding in the hotspot areas to minimize IACFPs in Ethiopia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The first two years of life is a vital period for promoting optimal growth, development and health. The lifelong nutritional habit and overall health of children is influenced by their early age feeding practice. Ethiopia is among the top five countries in Sub-Saharan Africa with the highest burden of zero fruits/vegetables consumption. This study aims to access factors associated with zero fruits/vegetables consumption among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia. METHODS The study analyzed Ethiopian Mini Demographic and Health Survey 2019 dataset with a total weighted sample of 1459 young children aged between 6-23 months and who were living with their mothers. Data cleaning, coding and labeling were done using STATA version 14 software. Multilevel mixed effect logistic regression model was employed to identify associated factors. RESULTS Exactly 69.3% of children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia had zero fruits/vegetables consumption. In the multivariable multilevel binary logistic regression analysis a child from household with middle (AOR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.86) and rich (AOR = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.23, 0.60) wealth index, mothers who aged between 25-34 years old (AOR = 0.44; 95%CI = 0.29-0.69), mothers who were married/living with partner (AOR = 3.21; 95%CI: 1.58-6.52), children of mothers who follow Islamic religion (AOR = 0.34, 95% CI: 0.19, 0.61), mothers who had more than four ANC visits during their most recent pregnancy (AOR = 0.57; 95%CI: 0.39-0.83), children in age group of 12-18 month(AOR = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.28, 0.59), and 19-23 months (AOR = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.17, 0.40), health facility delivery (AOR = 1.52, 95% CI; 1.00-2.30), and small peripheral regions (AOR = 4.40, 95% CI; 1.39-13.97) were found to be significant factors associated with children's zero fruits /vegetables consumption. The Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) value in the null model was 0.34, which indicates that 34% of the variation in children's zero fruits /vegetables consumption was attributed to the variation between clusters. CONCLUSION This study found that zero fruits/vegetables consumption among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia is high. Therefore, efforts should be made by stakeholders who are concerned about optimal diet and health of children to improve fruits/vegetables consumption of children particularly those from poor households, young mothers (15-24), and peripheral regions of Ethiopia. This could be done during ANC follow up visits and during nutrition counseling.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Association between poor infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and malnutrition in infants and young children (IYC) is well established. Furthermore, appropriate IYCF practices are important during the first 1,000 days of life to ensure optimal health and development. Understanding IYCF practices and associated socioeconomic and demographic factors will inform interventions to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target to end malnutrition in all forms. OBJECTIVE This study estimates the prevalence of Minimum Dietary Diversity (MDD), Minimum Meal Frequency (MMF), and Minimum Acceptable Diet (MAD), and examines their association with socioeconomic and demographic characteristics among children aged 6-23 months in Ghana. METHOD We used data from the Ghana Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 6 (GMICS6) conducted in 2017-18. Participants were recruited through multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. Information on caregiver's self-reported breastfeeding status and 24-hour dietary recall of foods IYC were fed with were collected through face-to-face interviews. We estimated the prevalence of MDD, MMF and MAD with a 95% confidence interval (CI). We investigated the socioeconomic and demographic determinants of MDD, MMF and MAD using univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses. FINDINGS Among 2,585 IYC aged 6-23 months, MDD, MMF and MAD were estimated as 25.46%, 32.82% and 11.72% respectively. Age of the IYC, educational status of the mothers/primary caregivers, and resident regions were found to have positive associations with MDD, MMF and MAD. In addition, the richest household wealth index and urban area of residence were found to have significant positive associations with MDD. CONCLUSION We report a low prevalence of MDD, MMF and MAD. Efforts to improve IYCF practices among children aged 6-23 months in Ghana should focus on multi-sectorial approaches including increasing access to formal education, income-generating activities and addressing regional and rural-urban inequity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite growing awareness of the problem of food security, some areas of Iran continue to experience food insecurity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate maternal performance about food security in dietary diversity for children aged between 12-24 months and its relationship with anthropometric measurements in Bushehr. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out using 400 mothers of children aged from 12 to 24 months in Bushehr selected via quota sampling. Data were collected using a reliable localized version of a 32-item food frequency questionnaire, consisting of six subscales, with a Cronbach's α: 0.81. The anthropometric measurements of height and weight were also calculated. Data analysis was performed using median, Mean±SD and multinomial logistic regression test, and odds ratio in SPSS, version 18. RESULTS According to standard servings, only 24% of the mothers fed their infants cereals, whereas 54.8%, 36.3%, 39.8%, and 20.3% of the mothers used meat, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, respectively. The strongest associations were between attendance at educational classes and vegetable consumption (OR=2.09, CI=1.03-4.21), age at the onset of complementary feeding and the consumption of meat (OR=1.30, CI=1.02-1.66) and fruits (OR=1.44, CI=1.03-2.03), and the mothers' level of education and use of dairy products (OR=0.29, CI=0.09-0.90). No evidence of a significant association was found between consumption of any food groups and the anthropometric measurements. CONCLUSIONS Mothers in Bushehr performed poorly in providing their infants with the required nutrition with regard to dietary diversity and amount of food. However, their performance can be improved by enhancing their basic nutrition knowledge, holding practical classes on food preparation for them, and focusing on mothers with infants in high-risk groups, e.g. infants suffering from excessive weight gain, obesity, and malnutrition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Child feeding practices during the first two years of life are crucial to ensure good health and nutrition status. This study aimed to assess the factors influencing inappropriate child feeding practices in children aged 6 - 23 months in families receiving nutrition allowance in the remote Mugu district, Nepal. METHODS A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 318 mothers who had children aged 6 - 23 months of age in the seven randomly selected wards. Systematic random sampling technique was used to select the desired number of respondents. Data were collected using pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. Bivariate and multivariable binary logistic regression was used to estimate crude odds ratio (cOR), and adjusted odds ratio (aOR), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to understand factor associated with child feeding practices. RESULTS Almost half of the children aged 6 - 23 months were not consuming a diverse diet (47.2%; 95% CI: 41.7%, 52.7%), did not meet the recommended minimum meal frequency (46.9%; 95% CI: 41.4%, 52.4%) and did not consume minimum acceptable diet (51.7%; 95% CI: 46.1%, 57.1%). Only 27.4% (95% CI: 22.7%, 32.5%) of children met the recommended complementary feeding practices. Multivariable analysis showed maternal characteristics such as mothers who gave birth at home (aOR = 4.70; 95% CI: 1.03, 21.31) and mothers in unpaid employment (aOR = 2.56; 95% CI: 1.06, 6.19) were associated with increased odds of inappropriate child feeding practices. Household economy (i.e. family with < 150 USD monthly income) was also associated with increased odds of inappropriate child feeding practices (aOR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.05, 2.42). CONCLUSION Despite the receipt of nutritional allowances, child feeding practices among 6 - 23 months children were not optimal. Additional context-specific behavior change strategies on child nutrition targeting mothers may be required.

Abstract
Despite the critical importance of complementary feeding, large proportions of children in developing countries are sub-optimally fed during 6–23 months of age. In Ethiopia, even though the government has been rolling out infant and young child feeding (IYCF) guidelines, the proportion of mothers adhering to the recommended optimal practices and its associated factors have not been assessed in different agro-ecological areas. Hence, the present study aimed to determine optimal complementary feeding practices and associated factors in three agro-ecological rural districts (high, mid and lowland) of southwest Ethiopia. A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 845 mothers-index young children 6–23 months Jimma zone. Multistage sampling was employed to select the study participants. Structured and pretested questionnaires were used to collect data and entered into Epi Data V.1.4.4.0. The data were analysed using SPSS version 20. Binary and multivariable logistic regressions were used to identify factors associated with optimal child-feeding practices. The significance of the association was determined at P < 0⋅05. The overall proportion of optimal complementary feeding practice (OCFP) was 9⋅4 % at 95 % CI (7⋅19, 11⋅08). The timely initiation of complementary feeding, minimum meal frequency, minimum dietary diversity and minimum acceptable diet was 52⋅2, 64⋅1, 17⋅2 and 12⋅2 %. Multivariable logistic regression showed that being in the highland districts, having good maternal knowledge, and mothers having primary school education, having a family size of less than six were positively associated with optimal complementary feeding practices. The findings showed that OCFP was low, especially in the midland agro-ecological districts.

Abstract
Background Appropriate complementary feeding practices prevent malnutrition among children. The proportion and determinant factors of appropriate complementary feeding practices identified by different studies were inconsistent in Ethiopia. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the pooled proportion and determinants of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers. Methods Databases (PubMed, HINARI, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) and university repositories were used to search for important articles. A critical appraisal of the studies was conducted. Data analysis was conducted using STATA version 11. Cochran (Q test) and I2 test were used to test the heterogeneity of the studies. Publication bias was checked using the funnel plot for asymmetry and Egger's regression test. Results Seventeen primary studies with a total sample size of 9166 mothers were involved in this study. The pooled proportion of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers who had infants and young children aged between 6 and 24 months was 21.77 (with a 95% CI: 14.07–29.48). Mothers' educational status of secondary school and above (OR = 3.36 with a 95% CI: 3.03–3.69), having repeated antenatal care visits (OR = 4.77 with a 95% CI: 3.49–6.05), child's age between 12 and 24 months (OR = 3.7 with a 95% CI: 2.75–4.65), having repeated postnatal care visits (OR = 3.17 with a 95% CI: 1.96–4.38), health education (OR = 4.88 with a 95% CI: 3.86–5.9), knowledge of mothers (OR = 4.85 with a 95% CI: 3.77–5.93), maternal age between 18 and 35 years (AOR = 2.67 with a 95% CI: 1.64–3.72), institutional delivery (OR = 2.23 with a 95% CI: 1.79–2.68), and higher household wealth (OR = 2.65 with a 95% CI: 1.46–3.84) were found to be statistically significant associated factors of appropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers. Conclusions The pooled proportion of appropriate complementary feeding practices was low in Ethiopia. Knowledge of mothers and maternal health service uptake such as antenatal care, postnatal care, and institutional delivery increase appropriate complementary feeding practices. More focus is required for mothers who have children aged less than 12 months, mothers aged above 35 years and less than 18 years, lower mothers' educational status, and lower household wealth. Therefore, integrated interventions are still required to improve appropriate complementary feeding practices.
