Abstract
AIM To investigate the role of autonomic nervous system in subpopulations of children with enuresis. METHODS We included 35 children with enuresis, divided in children with (17) and without nocturnal polyuria (18) and 43 healthy controls. For all participants hormones and neurotransmitters were measured. Patients and controls wore a sleep tracker device and children with enuresis underwent a 24 h blood pressure monitoring, nocturnal urine output measurement and uroflowmetry. RESULTS Children with enuresis had lower than controls copeptin and aldosterone, with the latter being more prominent in patients without nocturnal polyuria. Dopamine was lower in patients without nocturnal polyuria compared with patients with nocturnal polyuria. Children without polyuria experienced episodes only during NREM sleep, whereas in children with polyuria episodes occurred in both REM and NREM sleep. Children with enuresis experienced a non-dipping phenomenon during sleep which was more prominent in the group without polyuria. CONCLUSION In patients with nocturnal polyuria, nocturnal enuresis is associated with sympathetic hyperactivity which results in pressure polyuria and significantly lower systolic dipping during sleep. On the contrary, in children without nocturnal polyuria, it is mostly associated with bladder overactivity due to parasympathetic overstimulation as demonstrated by the NREM-related enuretic episodes and the lower aldosterone and dopamine levels.

Abstract
Functional (Nonorganic) Enuresis and Daytime Urinary Incontinence in Children and Adolescents: Clinical Guideline for Assessment and Treatment Abstract: Objective: Enuresis and daytime urinary incontinence are common disorders in children and adolescents and are associated with incapacitation and a high rate of comorbid psychological disorders. This interdisciplinary guideline summarizes the current state of knowledge regarding somatic and psychiatric assessment and treatment. We formulate consensus-based, practical recommendations. Methods: The members of this guideline commission consisted of 18 professional associations. The guideline results from current literature searches, several online surveys, and consensus conferences based on standard procedures. Results: According to the International Children's Continence Society (ICCS), there are four different subtypes of nocturnal enuresis and nine subtypes of daytime urinary incontinence. Organic factors first have to be excluded. Clinical and noninvasive assessment is sufficient in most cases. Standard urotherapy is the mainstay of treatment. If indicated, one can add specific urotherapy and pharmacotherapy. Medication can be useful, especially in enuresis and urge incontinence. Psychological and somatic comorbid disorders must also be addressed. Conclusions: The recommendations of this guideline were passed with a high consensus. Interdisciplinary cooperation is especially important, as somatic factors and comorbid psychological disorders and symptoms need to be considered. More research is required especially regarding functional (nonorganic) daytime urinary incontinence.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is associated with various quality of life concerns including poor sleep. Sleep impairments in children with AD are associated with increased risk of short stature, metabolic syndrome, mental illness and neurocognitive dysfunction. Although the association between AD and sleep disturbance is well established, the specific types of sleep disturbance in pediatric AD patients and their underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. A scoping literature review was performed to characterize and summarize the types of sleep disturbance in children (less than 18 years of age) with AD. 31 papers met inclusion criteria and extracted data were analyzed in an iterative manner. Two types of sleep disturbances were found to be more prevalent in pediatric AD patients in comparison to controls. One category was related to loss of sleep (increased frequency or duration of awakenings, increased sleep fragmentation, delayed sleep onset, decreased total sleep duration, and decreased sleep efficiency). Another category was associated with unusual behaviors during sleep (restlessness/limb movement/scratching, sleep-disordered breathing including obstructive sleep apnea and snoring, nightmares, nocturnal enuresis and nocturnal hyperhidrosis). Some mechanisms underlying these sleep disturbances include pruritus and induced scratching and increased proinflammatory markers induced by sleep loss. Sleep disturbance appears to be associated with AD. We recommend clinicians to consider interventions that may reduce sleep disturbances in children with AD. Further investigation of these sleep disturbances is needed to elucidate pathophysiology, develop additional treatments, and reduce negative impacts on the health outcomes and quality of life in pediatric AD patients.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Combination therapy (CT) (desmopressin plus oxybutynin) has been considered for the treatment of monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE). We designed our study with the aim to evaluate the response rate to CT compared with desmopressin alone (primary outcome) and to identify factors associated with the response to CT (secondary outcome). We prospectively enrolled children with MNE with absent/partial response after 3 months of evening treatment with 240 mcg of desmopressin. We defined the response rate to CT compared with desmopressin alone according to the standardization of terminology document of the International Children's Continence Society: no-response, < 50% reduction; partial response, 50 to 99% reduction; and complete response, 100% reduction of wet nights. Both partial response and complete response to CT were clustered for the analyses of this manuscript. The enrolled children treated with 240 mcg/evening of desmopressin had also an additional evening administration of 0.3 mg/kg oxybutynin. A follow-up was scheduled at 3 and 6 months after the beginning of CT. At 3 months, oxybutynin dose was augmented to 0.5 mg/kg in case of absent/partial response to CT. Nocturnal diuresis was measured in 5 wet nights prior the beginning of therapy with desmopressin. Nocturnal polyuria (NP) was defined as nocturnal urine production > 130% of the expected bladder capacity. All patients with constipation were treated with macrogol. We enrolled 81 children (35.8% females) with a mean age of 8.4 ± 2.3 years. Seventy-eight patients completed the follow-up. After the CT, 59/78 (75.6%) patients showed an improvement of the response with CT compared with desmopressin alone. At multivariate analysis, both NP in more than 1 night (OR = 8.5; 95% CI, 1.4-51.6; p = 0.02) and absence of constipation (OR = 7.1; 95% CI, 1.6-31.0; p = 0.009) resulted significant after Bonferroni correction. CONCLUSIONS CT determines an improvement of response compared to therapy with desmopressin alone in 75.6% of patients. Significant predictive factors of response to CT were presence of NP and absence of constipation. WHAT IS KNOWN • Combination therapy (CT) (desmopressin plus anticholinergic drug) has been described as a therapeutic option for patients with monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) not responding to desmopressin alone as first-line treatment. • Variable protocols and variable combination of drugs have been described with a response rate ranging from 44 to 76%. WHAT IS NEW • We found that 59 patients (75.6%) treated with evening administration of 240 mcg of sublingual desmopressin plus 0.3-0.5 mg/kg of oxybutynin had an improvement of response compared to treatment with desmopressin alone. • We add evidence that presence of frequently recurring nocturnal polyuria and absence of constipation are predictors of response to CT.

Abstract
Aims Nocturnal enuresis (NE), daytime urinary incontinence (DUI), fecal incontinence (FI), as well as sleep and behavioral problems are common in young children. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of sleep and psychological parameters for all types of incontinence in a representative sample of young children. Methods Six hundred thirty eight (of 1161) children with a mean age of 5.9 years (50.9% boys) were assessed during their mandatory school entry examination. The participation rate was 55%. Instruments included the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire and other clinical questions. Incontinence was diagnosed according to ICCS standards. Constipation was assessed by two questions. Results 17.1% of children had at least one type of incontinence, 14.8% had NE, 5.0% DUI, 2.1% FI, and 4.8% were constipated. 6.7% of children had clinically relevant psychological problems. 22.7% of children had sleep problems regularly (5−7 times/week). A wide variety of sleep problems were reported. Children with incontinence were not affected by a higher rate of sleep problems. Children with NE had fewer night wakings and those with constipation fewer parasomnias. Sleep and psychological problems were significantly associated, especially in children with DUI and FI. Conclusions Sleep and behavioral problems are common in young children. Psychological problems have a clear impact on sleep. Young children with incontinence do not have more sleep problems than continent children. Therefore, both sleep and psychological problems should be addressed in young children with incontinence.

Abstract
Objectives: Sleep disturbances are prevalent problems among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected persons. The recognition of comorbid sleep disorders in patients with HIV is currently hampered by limited knowledge of sleep-related symptoms, sleep architecture, and types of sleep disorders in this population. We aimed to compare the differences in sleep-related symptoms and polysomnography-based sleep disorders between HIV-infected persons and controls. Methods: The study evaluated 170 men with a Pittsburgh sleep quality index scores greater than 5, including 44 HIV-infected men and 126 male controls who were frequency-matched by sex, age (±3.0 years) and BMI (±3.0 kg/m2). For all participants, an overnight sleep study using a Somte V1 monitor was conducted. Differences in sleep-related symptoms and sleep disorders between HIV-infected patients and controls were examined using t-tests or chi-square tests. Results: HIV-infected persons with sleep disturbances more often had psychological disturbances (72.7% vs. 40.5%, p < 0.001) and suspected rapid eye movement behavior disorder (25.0% vs. 4.8%, p < 0.01) than controls. Sleep-disordered breathing was less common in HIV-infected persons than in controls (56.8% vs. 87.3%, p < 0.001). The mean percentage of rapid eye movement sleep was higher among HIV-infected patients than among controls (20.6% vs. 16.6%, p < 0.001). Nocturia was more common in HIV-infected persons than in controls (40.9% vs. 22.2%, p = 0.02). Conclusions: Psychological disturbances and sleep-disordered breathing can be possible explanations of sleep disturbances in HIV-infected persons in whom sleep-disordered breathing is notable. Further studies are warranted to examine the underlying factors of rapid eye movement behavior disorder among HIV-infected persons with sleep disturbances.

Abstract
AIM Bedwetting is a common paediatric condition. #Bedwetting has been established as the official hashtag to structure Twitter discussions about the condition. We analysed online Twitter discussions for #Bedwetting. METHODS Symplur, a Twitter analytics service was employed to aggregate Twitter activity, users and content including #Bedwetting, between October 2013 and November 2018. Activity was analysed via tweet volume and user adoption. Users were assorted using geographic location, occupation and affiliation data. Content in #Bedwetting Tweets was undertaken by retrieving information about retweets, links, frequently used words and hashtags. RESULTS A total of 101 412 tweets and 9957 users utilising #Bedwetting were identified. Most tweets were sent with links (93%). The average ± SD number of tweets using #Bedwetting per month increased from 96 ± 87 in 2013 to 2935 ± 1644 in 2015. Tweet volume decreased to 1960 ± 257 in 2016 and subsequently increased to 2901 ± 1110 in 2017. New users increased from 4 in 2013 to 9957 users in 2018. Users tweeted from 69 countries. Advocacy organisations comprised 35% of the top 100 influencers. Common words in #Bedwetting tweets were 'potty', 'best' and 'training'. Popular associated hashtags were #Pottytraining, #Solutions and #Moms. Hyperlinks in #Bedwetting tweets included advocacy, academic and commercial websites. CONCLUSIONS Our analysis of #Bedwetting highlights that Twitter is frequently used to discuss the condition's diagnosis and management. Various stakeholders in health care are utilising the platform to build awareness about bedwetting. We identified that Twitter is being employed to drive web traffic to other internet websites.

The objective is to determine its prevalence in an extensive sample of children considering different diagnostic criteria. PATIENTS AND METHODS Cross-sectional descriptive study using a survey of parents of a selection of primary and secondary school Asturian children (6, 10 and 13 years). The questionnaire consisted of 80 or 55 questions (10 of which were answered by the children) for those who urinated or not in bed, respectively. NE was registered as primary or secondary, and the presence or not of enuresis as the only symptom. In addition, the prevalence was compared according to the different diagnostic criteria. RESULTS Of the 3548 questionnaires distributed, 56.6% were answered completed correctly. A total of 102 children urinated in bed (5.52%), which corresponds to a prevalence of 2.82% according to the DSM-IV-TR/5 and the (International Continence Society) ICC, 3.7% with the DSM-III and ICD-10. It was more frequent in boys than in girls (2.8:1), with a predominance of primary forms (81.2%), and non-monosymptomatic (68.66%). The spontaneous resolution in the older age group was higher in boys than in girls, with the different prevalences of previous ages being equal to 13 years. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of NE in the studied region coincides with that observed in some other studies. There are differences according to the criteria used, which should draw attention to the need to unify the methodology of the studies and the criteria used in its diagnosis.

Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Psychological Effects of Primary Nocturnal Enuresis in Chinese Young Adults. Int Neurourol J 2021; 25:84-92. Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and effects of primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) on physical and mental health in young adults in mainland China. Methods An anonymous questionnaire was used to collect information including the sociodemographic characteristics, history of PNE, family history, daytime voiding symptoms, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores, Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). A total of 22,500 university students from 23 provinces and 368 cities in mainland China were included. Results In total, 21,082 questionnaires were collected, and 20,345 of them qualified for statistical analysis. The PNE prevalence was 1.17%, and the distribution of monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) and nonmonosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (NMNE) was 66.1% and 33.9%, respectively. In total, 28% of respondents with PNE reported bedwetting daily, 31.6% between 1 and 7 times weekly, and 40.4% between 1 and 4 times monthly; 80% of PNE cases had no history of treatment. The prevalence of PNE in patients with a family history, frequency, urgency, urinary incontinence, and recurrent urinary tract infections was significantly higher than in those without these conditions (P<0.001). PNE was significantly correlated with the PSQI total score (sleep quality) (P=0.011). The SES score was lower and the SDS was higher (P<0.001) in the PNE group than in those without PNE. Conclusions In mainland China, the PNE prevalence among young adults was found to be high, and PNE had significant effects on physical and mental health. Risk factors included a family history, daytime voiding symptoms, and lack of treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the association between urine osmolality (Uosm) in patients with primary monosymptomatic enuresis (PMNE) and response to desmopressin (dDAVP) lyophilisate. METHODS This was a prospective cohort study that included 419 children with enuresis seen in outpatient clinic between October 2017 and October 2019. Patient workup included symptom checklist, 48 h frequency/volume chart, kidney and bladder ultrasound, uroflow, urinalysis and culture, spot urine Ca/creatinine, and first-morning Uosm. Patients < 5 years, with secondary enuresis, or loss of follow-up were excluded. Oral dDAVP lyophilisate was recommended to all with PMNE and normal bladder capacity. After 1 month of therapy, initial success was assessed according to ICCS. Significant predictor variables for complete response were identified and analyzed using correlation coefficients and binary logistic regression. RESULTS There were 48 patients with PMNE who received dDAVP and were followed for treatment success. Partial and complete responses were achieved for 14 (29.2%) and 20 cases (41.7%), respectively. Older age and lower Uosm were found to be significantly in favor of complete response to dDAVP lyophilisate, P = 0.007 and 0.033, respectively. ROC analysis determined the Uosm of ≤ 814 mOsm/kg as a cut-off value for complete success (sensitivity 65% and specificity 75%, AUC = 68.2%). The odds ratio for complete success for selected cut-off value was 5.57 (95% CI 1.588-19.551, P = 0.007). CONCLUSION High pretreatment morning Uosm (> 814 mOsm/kg) might be suggestive of an alternative treatment to dDAVP lyophilisate in PMNE because of the higher risk of treatment failure.

Abstract
This research investigated the association between prolonged disposable diaper (DD) wearing in infancy and primary enuresis (PNE). As a case–control study, we collected data from 376 children with enuresis and 379 healthy children who were sex- and age-matched at three tertiary care institutions in mainland China from August 2017 to July 2018. The results of adjusted logistic regression showed the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for PNE across the categories of age of daytime DD use cessation were as follows: ≥ 25 months: 1.00, 18–24 months: 0.25 (0.17–0.37), and ≤ 17 months: 0.11 (0.06–0.20), independent of age, mother education, residence, toilet training approach, breastfeeding duration, UTI, constipation, anaphylactic disease and family history. After a similar multivariable adjustment, increased age of daytime DD use (per-month) had a positive correlation with PNE, OR = 1.17, 95% CI 1.13–1.20 and non-linear relationship was detected, whose point was 21 months (the effect sizes and the 95%CI on the left and right sides of inflection point were 1.04 (0.99–1.10), P = 0.131 and 1.25 (1.18–1.31), P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis found that the effect of duration of disposable diaper exposure for each additional month, those children had accepted assisted infant toilet training/elimination communication (AITT/EC) practice had a lower risk of PNE (OR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.04–1.12), compared with those without AITT/EC practice (OR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.14–1.27), P for interaction < 0.001. In conclusion, the children diagnosed with primary enuresis after age 5 stopped using disposable diapers at daytime later than the control group. Association between duration of DD exposure and the risk of childhood enuresis is modified by AITT/EC practice. Timely cessation use of disposable diaper and practice AITT/EC may shorten the time to nocturnal continence, and the prospective cohort studies are needed to verify the discoveries.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Wilson disease (WD) is an autosomal-recessive disorder of copper metabolism, which exhibits various symptoms due to the combination of environmental and genetic factors. Here, we report a WD patient who displayed distinctive symptom of nocturnal enuresis. PATIENT CONCERNS The patient was a 31-year old woman, who recently developed nocturnal enuresis, combined with hand tremors, trouble speaking, and panic disorder at night. DIAGNOSIS The patient had been diagnosed with WD by Kayser-Fleischer rings, abnormal copper metabolism, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and magnetic resonance imaging when she was 17. The diagnosis was further confirmed by genetic analysis, which revealed a compound heterozygous mutations in ATP7B gene (c.2195T>C and c.3044T>C). The patient exhibited nocturnal enuresis, but the ambulatory electroencephalogram, routine urinalysis, residual urine detection, color doppler ultrasound of kidney, ureter, and bladder all displayed no abnormality. INTERVENTIONS The patient was treated with sodium dimercaptosulphonate, supplemented with Glutathione and Encephalin-inosine. OUTCOMES The urinary copper excretion level decreased gradually, and the nocturnal enuresis was alleviated along with the neuropsychiatric symptoms by copper chelation therapy. CONCLUSION In this study, we proved that variants c.2195T>C and c.3044T>C is involved in pathogenesis of WD, and revealed that nocturnal enuresis may be a symptom of WD.

Abstract
Introduction: Non-neurogenic urinary incontinence in children is a common condition that affects the quality of life for both patients and parents. Symptoms may occur in the daytime, nighttime, or both and may be the result of structural and functional anomalies. Evaluation and management of associated co-morbidities, such as constipation is critical to management. Behavioral therapy is a fist line therapy in most cases of non-neurogenic urinary incontinence and pharmacologic therapy a second-line therapy.Areas covered: In this review, the authors cover the pharmacologic agents, FDA approved and commonly used non-FDA approved, available for the treatment of four non-structural etiologies of non-neurogenic urinary incontinence in children. These include nocturnal enuresis, overactive bladder, giggle incontinence, and dysfunctional voiding.Expert opinion: Non-neurogenic causes of urinary incontinence in children represent a complicated medical condition that requires both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management. Limited FDA-approved therapies as well as suboptimal results with approved therapies due to a lack in the understanding of the underlying pathophysiology and patient selection may lead to the use of alternative non-FDA approved therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nocturnal enuresis is defined as bed-wetting in children from the age of five years that occurs during sleep; if untreated, the condition can result in social and psychological problems both for the children and their parents. Nocturnal enuresis is a complicated disease that includes multiple pathogenetic factors. Nocturnal enuresis is divided into two subgroups: monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic. The role of some biomarkers in patients with monosymptomatic enuresis has been reported in a small number of the studies. OBJECTIVE The aim of this research was to evaluate the serum levels of copeptin and corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) in monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis cases. Although these markers were previously examined in children with monosymptomatic enuresis, there is no study that has evaluated these markers in non-monosymptomatic children. STUDY DESIGN One hundred nineteen children with nocturnal enuresis (5-16 years) and forty healthy children (5-17 years) were enrolled to the study. Of the nocturnal enuresis group, forty-nine were monosymptomatic and seventy were non-monosymptomatic. Copeptin and CRF were measured by a competitive inhibition method with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS The serum copeptin levels were significantly lower in children with monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis than in the controls.(median, 34.7 [interquartile range (IQR): 34 pg/ml], 39.8 [IQR: 29 pg/ml] vs 52.1 [IQR: 14 pg/ml], respectively, P < 0.05). The serum CRF levels were significantly lower in children with monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis than in the controls (median, 35.1 [IQR: 19 pg/ml], 34.05 [IQR: 24 pg/ml] vs 78.3 [IQR: 39 pg/ml], respectively, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in copeptin and CRF levels between the children with monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis. DISCUSSION Copeptin is presumed to be a sensitive surrogate biomarker for arginine vasopressin release. To date, there are only two studies in the literature that assess the relationship between copeptin and monosymptomatic enuresis. The only study in the literature demonstrated significantly decreased levels of CRF in monosymptomatic enuretic children. It was demonstrated that the levels of copeptin and CRF differ in both children with monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis from the control groups. It was also demonstrated that copeptin and CRF levels were not different between the children in monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic groups. CONCLUSION Those changes in both copeptin and CRF which were shown in this study in monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic enuretic children may contribute to the pathogenesis of nocturnal enuresis. Further case-control studies can evaluate the copeptin and CRF levels before treatments in monosymptomatic and non-monosymptomatic patients to decide potential effectiveness of treatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Night-time polyuria as the dominating pathophysiological mechanism for primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) has been put in question with nocturnal detrusor overactivity and high arousal thresholds as alternatives. An earlier finding of night-time polyuria in 12% of healthy non-enuretic schoolchildren underscores that excessive night-time diuresis per se is unlikely the major cause of PMNE. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to compare the night-time diuresis pattern in children with and without PMNE and to evaluate the role of night-time polyuria in provoking enuretic episodes in children with PMNE. STUDY DESIGN Night-time diuresis pattern was recorded in 27 children with PMNE, aged 6-15 years, and 29 non-enuretic children, aged 6-13 years. Using a portable ultrasound recorder, the bladder volume was estimated at 15-min intervals for at least three nights with the child sleeping in its own bed at home. The volume of enuretic episodes was controlled using preweighed diapers. All voids were registered by time and volume. Diuresis during night time was estimated from the slope of regression lines fitted to ultrasound recording points. Mean night-time diuresis was calculated from total urine production during the night and time interval from the last void before bedtime to the first morning void. RESULTS Night-time bladder filling pattern was recorded from 189 nights, giving 149 interpretable patterns for analysis (77 children with PMNE and 72 dry children). The night-time diuresis pattern was similar for children with or without PMNE, showing large variability between different nights of the same child. Most nights displayed a smooth bladder filling at constant low rate, whereas other nights showed an early phase with high diuresis followed by a longer period of low diuresis with no difference between the two groups. DISCUSSION Night-time diuresis has been non-invasively monitored in children while asleep in their own beds at home. The pattern of night-time diuresis varies considerably between different nights of the same child, with no obvious differences in any diuresis parameters between children with or without PMNE. CONCLUSION Non-enuretic children have similar diuresis pattern and maximal night-time diuresis values as children with PMNE, making it unlikely that PMNE is caused by night-time polyuria per se (Summary figure). Delayed maturation of sleep mechanisms such as decreased arousability or sleep inhibition of the micturition reflex is more likely to be the main etiology for enuresis.

Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of patients with nocturnal enuresis (NE). Methods: We enrolled 403 children with NE referred to the Services of Pediatrics, Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital of Rome between June 2013 and July 2018. We excluded 2 children, respectively, with renal agenesis and chromosomopathy. Results: Of the 401 patients, 101 girls (25.2%) and 300 boys (74.8%), aged 5–16 years; mean age at first visit 8.8 ± 2.44 years. During the physical examination, we asked the patients and their parents specific questions to identify signs and symptoms of voiding disorders and comorbid conditions. In addition, we evaluated family history and behavioral characteristics of patients. In this study, NE was heredity in the 31.2% of cases. We found urogenital abnormalities in 15.7% of cases, constipation in 14.5% of cases, innocence heart murmur in 21.4% of cases and parasomnias in a good percentage of cases, especially snoring (13.7%), restless sleep (5.7%), somniloquy (23.7%) and bruxism (14.7%). Conclusions: Our experience demonstrates that there are a lot of comorbidities that are associated with NE and can influence the prognosis and the response to the therapy in these children.

Abstract
Nocturnal enuresis - or bed-wetting - is one of the most common chronic conditions of childhood. It has a significant effect on the quality of life of affected children and their families and is associated with several comorbidities, some of which resolve on successful treatment. The causes of this troublesome condition are explored and the principles of assessment and treatment are discussed with reference to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance as well as research. Response to treatment resistance is considered and appropriate onward referral discussed.
