Abstract
PURPOSE Falls following a spinal cord injury (SCI) can have physical and psychological consequences, although some risk of falls may be acceptable to enable participation in meaningful activity. The study aimed to explore the patients' perspective of falls and fall prevention after discharge from a inpatient spinal injuries unit. METHODS An interpretive descriptive approach guided the study. Semi structured interviews were conducted in the 6-12 months post discharge period. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data and identify themes. RESULTS Fifteen individuals with SCI, with a mean age of 57 years and varied fall experiences were included. Three themes were identified including: 1. Expectation of falling; 2. Learning from my own experience and the experience of others' and 3. How to prevent falls. Learning from their own experience and the experience of others was highly valued by persons with SCI and influenced expectations of falls. A variety of strategies were used to prevent falls. CONCLUSIONS Strategies that include learning from others, include activities that are individual and provide skills in self-reflection may aid to make fall prevention meaningful.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Appropriate care of patients with definite spinal cord injury or at risk of it in the prehospital and hospital stages requires comprehensive planning in the health system. It is also the requirement of any successful program to explain the needs from the perspective of its stakeholders. Thus, this study aimed to discover the care needs of adults with spinal trauma in prehospital and hospital settings from the perspective of the patient care team. MATERIALS AND METHODS This qualitative study was conducted with the participation of urban and rural prehospital emergency personnel and emergency departments of educational and therapeutic hospitals affiliated to Isfahan, Tehran, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Ahvaz, and Yasuj Universities of Medical Sciences, through conducting 36 in-depth semi-structured interviews from September to December 2021. Using purposive sampling method, the participants were selected considering the maximum variation. The data saturation was reached after conducting interviews and group discussions with 36 subjects. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis approach. Lundman and Graneheim approach were used for the study rigour. Data were simultaneously analyzed using MAXQDA software version 10. RESULT During the data analysis, two themes of prehospital care with two main categories (emergency care and management of secondary complications of spinal trauma) and hospital care with two main categories (emergency care and management of secondary complications of spinal trauma) emerged. CONCLUSION Emergency care and management of secondary complications of spinal cord injury in the prehospital and hospital stages can affect treatment results, improve quality of life, and reduce mortality rate, secondary injuries, and healthcare costs. Thus, identification of the care needs of the adults with spinal trauma from the perspective of the patient care team can help the authorities to plan appropriate interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient education is a key component of patient care, positively affecting health promotion and self-care ability. In this regard, an extensive body of research supports the use of the andragogy model in patient education. The study aimed to explore the experiences of people with cardiovascular disease in patient education. METHODS This qualitative study involved 30 adult patients with cardiovascular disease who were hospitalized or had a history of hospitalization. They were purposively recruited with maximum variation from two large hospitals in Tehran, Iran. Data were gathered by conducting semi-structured interviews. Data collection was done by conducting semi-structured interviews. Then, the data were analyzed using directed content analysis and a preliminary framework based on six constructs of the andragogy model. RESULTS Data analysis resulted in the development of 850 primary codes, which were reduced to 660 during data reduction. These codes were grouped into nineteen subcategories under the six primary constructs of the andragogy model, i.e., need-to-know, self-concept, prior experience, readiness for learning, orientation to learning, and motivation for learning. The most common problems in patient education were associated with self-concept, previous experience, and readiness for learning components. CONCLUSION This study provides valuable information about the problems of patient education for adults with cardiovascular disease. Correction of the issues identified can improve care quality and patient outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To address the lack of research on the information needs of spinal cord injured (SCI) patients and family members in acute care, in order to inform the provision of appropriate information supports. MATERIALS AND METHODS Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven traumatic SCI patients and six family members. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse and interpret the data. RESULTS Five themes were generated: (1) "You were lying in limbo and you knew nothing" describes how being situated in non-specialist acute care limited participants' access to information; (2) "You'll never walk again" is not enough describes the need for information about the effects of SCI and the management of secondary conditions; (3) "The delivery was awful" demonstrates the importance of information being explained clearly and empathically; (4) "It was going in one ear and out the other" highlights the need for ongoing conversations with healthcare professionals, as retaining information provided in the early stages post-injury is often difficult; and (5) "Hope" not "false hope" discusses the importance of giving patients and family members hope while simultaneously being realistic about potential recovery. CONCLUSIONS SCI patients and family members had significant unmet information needs in acute care.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSCI patients and family members had significant unmet information needs while in acute care. Being in non-specialist acute care significantly limited most participants' access to information.During the acute phase of care, most patients and family members would like to know the patient's recovery prognosis, the impact of SCI on the patient's functional independence, how to manage secondary complications, and what to expect in rehabilitation.As patients and family members often had difficulty absorbing information in the early stages post-injury, information should be continuously repeated, reinforced and clarified.HCPs should promote realistic hope for SCI patients and family members even in the absence of neurological recovery, by focusing on what the patient is still capable of while being honest about their prognosis.

Abstract
Background Patient education is a critical aspect of patient care and is considered a vital part of self-care (especially in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD)) and health promotion. The literature supports incorporating the principles of the andragogy model (adult learning) into patient education. This study aimed to determine the concordance of the CVD patient education with the principles of the andragogy model. Methods This cross-sectional survey was conducted on 384 adult CVD patients from 2 selected hospitals of Tehran. The sampling method was convenient, and the data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire based on the principles of the andragogy model. Data were analyzed using SPSS16 statistical software. Results The mean age of the patients was 55.69 ± 13.01 years old. Frequency of distribution of the patients who, in total, selected the items of 4 or 5 for respecting the principles of andragogy model was as follows: 68.16% for the motivation, 66.29% for the need, 66.03% for the orientation, 54.16% for the experiences, 51.55% for the self-concept, and 44.65% for the readiness principle. Also, three principles of motivation (77.37) need (74.97), and orientation (74.78) had the highest mean, respectively, in terms of adhering to this model. But the most common problems in patient education were related to the principles of readiness (64.35), self-concept (68.19), and experiences (77.71) with the lowest mean. Conclusions The findings of this study provided valuable information on the flaws in patient education, including ignoring and disrespecting the principles of adult education. Correcting these detected defects and providing feedback to health professionals can improve the quality of patient education programs and patient satisfaction. Also, it empowers healthcare providers, patients, and families through effective education strategies.

Developing a consensus on the core educational content to be acquired by people with spinal cord injuries during rehabilitation: findings from a Delphi study followed by a Consensus Conference. Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Three-round Delphi study followed by a Consensus Conference with selected stakeholders. OBJECTIVES To identify a set of core educational content that people with spinal cord injury (SCI) need to acquire during rehabilitation. SETTING The Delphi study was performed electronically. The Consensus Conference was held at the Città della Salute e della Scienza University Hospital of Turin, Italy. METHODS A panel of 20 experts (healthcare professionals and SCI survivors) participated in a three-round Delphi study. In round 1, arguments for core educational content were solicited and reduced into items. In rounds 2 and 3, a five-point Likert scale was used to find consensus on and validate core educational content items (threshold for consensus and agreement: 60% and 80%, respectively). A Consensus Conference involving 32 stakeholders was held to discuss, modify (if appropriate) and approve the list of validated items. RESULTS The 171 arguments proposed in round 1 were reduced into 74 items; 67 were validated in round 3. The Consensus Conference approved a final list of 72 core educational content items, covering 16 categories, which were made into a checklist. CONCLUSIONS Consensus was achieved for a set of core educational content for people with SCI. The resultant checklist could serve as an assessment tool for both healthcare professionals and SCI survivors. It can also be used to support SCI survivors' education, streamline resource use and bridge the gap between information provided during rehabilitation and information SCI survivors need to function in the community.

Abstract
BACKGROUND People with a recent spinal cord injury (SCI) often follow intensive rehabilitation. Learning appropriate self-care, deal with their impairments and prevent secondary health conditions (SHCs), is highly important during rehabilitation. To date it is not clear how self-care skills are taught to people with SCI. The objective of this study was to understand how people with SCI experienced the learning of appropriate self-care skills during inpatient rehabilitation, including the role of the rehabilitation team. METHODS Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 people with SCI, recently discharged from initial inpatient rehabilitation. Interviews were audio-taped, transcribed and analyzed thematically. RESULTS Two main themes and seven sub-themes were identified. Participants stated that the contribution of the rehabilitation team to learning self-care, including prevention of SHCs, was mostly made by optimizing opportunities to learn through experience. For preventing SHCs, education and lessons learned from the professionals during therapy and the formal educational program, was experienced as especially important. Further, the motivational attitude of the professionals which participants found stimulating and was based on respect, combined with their positive contribution as one team, were seen as essentials elements for learning appropriate self-care. However participants did not recognize the contribution of the nursing staff as part of their rehabilitation, although it was seen as very important. An important aspect of the participants' own contribution was challenging oneself to learn self-care. This was done in different ways by the participants. Further, their own mental adjustment was considered important in the learning process. The gaining of confidence was by most participants seen as personal characteristic, although they also recognized the importance of the team effort and the experiences they underwent. CONCLUSIONS Learning appropriate self-care was mostly done through experience, by challenging themselves, and making use of the opportunities given by the members of the rehabilitation team. The same strategies used by the rehabilitation team to teach people with SCI to perform appropriate self-care, were also helpful for the participants to gain confidence. Explicit attention for self-care training as an important goal in SCI rehabilitation may strengthen the nursing staff's role and stimulate interdisciplinary working.

Abstract
Background After a spinal cord injury (SCI), individuals must acquire their maximum level of independence before returning to their previous social and working conditions. The education provided during rehabilitation is one of the basic but complex aspects that influence the health perspectives of people with SCI. Gaining the perspective of SCI survivors experienced barriers and resources to enhance the education process may assist healthcare professionals in understanding this complex aspect of their practice. Through a qualitative descriptive analysis, this study aimed to identify the perceived barriers and facilitators of education provided during the rehabilitation of individuals with SCI. Methods A purposive sample of 22 adults with SCI and at least six months of home experience was recruited. Participants were assigned into four mini focus groups according to their level of independence. The focus groups were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed using a thematic analysis. Results Three themes were identified: the readiness to education, the individual characteristics, and the environmental and social characteristics influencing education. Participants perceived education to be an ongoing process made up of consecutive phases, each of which had to be overcome before participants felt ready to reappraise their health and well-being. This process was affected by individual, environmental, and social factors. Conclusions Education is constantly provided by all members of the rehabilitation team. These must stress the relevance of the contents presented, increase SCI survivors’ motivation to set achievable goals, and consider filling the gap that the patients perceive between rehabilitation centres and available community resources. The findings of this study promote the design of structured educational programmes, increasing knowledge, and improve the health perspective of SCI survivors, their families, and providers.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects the family as a whole. This study aimed to describe and compare mental health and family functioning in TBI patients and their family members, and to identify individual and family-related factors that were associated with mental health. It was conducted at an urban, specialized, TBI outpatient clinic and included 61 patients with mild to severe TBI and 63 family members. Baseline demographics and injury-related data were collected, and the participants answered standardized, self-reported questionnaires 6-18 months post-injury that assessed mental health; general health; family functioning, communication, and satisfaction; depression and anxiety; self-efficacy; resilience; and condition-specific quality of life. The patients reported significantly worse mental health, depression, resilience, self-efficacy, and general health compared with the family members. Patients and family members had similar perceptions, showing balanced family functioning, high family communication levels, and moderate family satisfaction. Factors significantly associated with mental health in patients and family members were depression, anxiety, and resilience, explaining 56% of the variance (p < 0.001). Family-related factors were not associated with mental health. The disease burden was mainly on the patients; however, the family members also reported emotional distress. Family-targeted interventions across the TBI continuum should be considered.

Abstract
Purpose: To systematically identify, evaluate, and synthesise the qualitative literature on the self-care behaviours, skills, and strategies performed by individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI).Review methods: The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) meta-aggregation method was followed. The search was conducted on five databases and limited to papers published from January 2000 to March 2020. Two independent reviewers screened, extracted the data from, and assessed the methodological quality of selected papers using the JBI qualitative assessment and critical appraisal instrument.Results: Eleven qualitative papers were included. Three synthesised findings with a moderate level of confidence emerged from 90 findings: people with SCI perform self-directed or directed-by-other behaviours focused on their physical condition (i); and on their social life (ii); people with SCI perform self-directed behaviours focused on their emotional well-being (iii). Individuals with SCI are aware of their condition and incorporate self-care behaviours into their routine to maintain health and prevent complications.Conclusion: This meta-synthesis provides evidence on the self-care behaviours performed by people with SCI to prevent, control, and manage the physical, emotional, and social effects of their condition. These findings may help healthcare providers to understand the self-care process in SCI survivors and tailor educational programmes to their experiences.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSCI survivors are directly responsible for their health and must reach their maximum level of independence by acquiring self-care behaviours and adjusting them over time.Self-care behaviours must be incorporated into SCI survivors' daily routine to maintain their condition, promote their social participation, and prevent complications.Caregiver contributions to self-care should be given more value, as these are fundamental to maintain SCI survivors' well-being and social participation.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A randomized controlled trial. OBJECTIVE To assess the effectiveness of a mobile-based educational intervention on sexo-marital life in Iranian men with spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs', "Spinal Cord Injury Association", and the "Protection Center of Spinal Cord Disables". METHODS Participants were men with SCI aged at least 18 years old. The effectiveness of a mobile App was evaluated on 70 married men with SCI. Sexual adjustment, sexual satisfaction, marital adjustment, and marital satisfaction were assessed by valid and reliable questionnaires at baseline, 4 and 8 weeks after the intervention. RESULTS The between-group mean difference (95% CI) of sexual adjustment (4.2, CI: 3.6-4.8) after 4 weeks as well as 8 weeks (8.6, CI: 7.6-9.5) after baseline was significant (P < 0.001). The between-group mean difference (95% CI) of sexual satisfaction (6.9, CI: 8-11.2) after 4 weeks as well as 8 weeks (16.4, CI: 14.1-18.7) after baseline was significant (P < 0.001). There were significant increases in all the domains of marital satisfaction's between-group mean differences after 4 weeks as well as 8 weeks after baseline (P < 0.001). Repeated measures ANOVA showed there was no statistically significant increase in marital adjustment's between-group mean difference (95% CI) after 4 weeks (-0.1, CI: -0.1- 0, P < 0.16) as well as 8 weeks (0.4, CI: -0.3-1.1, P < 0.25) after baseline. CONCLUSION The application-based educational intervention showed the positive effect of education on sexo-marital life in men with SCI. We recommend the rehabilitation team's healthcare providers embrace this educational strategy for individuals with SCI.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate a new nurse-guided patient education program in spinal cord injury rehabilitation with particular focus on the patients' perspectives and experiences. DESIGN Longitudinal qualitative study. METHODS We conducted face-to-face interviews with 10 rehabilitation patients and used the content analysis method to analyze the data. FINDINGS Patients emphasized the importance of the practical training of the education program. This impacted their well-being as well as their autonomy. They rated discussions with primary nurses and peers about physical or psychological concerns. However, after discharge, the learning process was ongoing, and patients experienced the transition to living at home as a major challenge. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE This research provides valuable information from the patients' perspective for enhancing spinal cord injury patient education. Situational learning, based on the practical parts of patient education and working with peers, is highlighted.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Spinal cord injury (SCI) predisposes those who suffer from it to physical inactivity and weight gain; consequently, death due to cardiovascular diseases is more frequent among people with SCI than in the general population. The literature documents a consensus about an interdisciplinary multimodal approach for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular risk factors including overweight and obesity in people with SCI, focusing on diet, physical activity (PA) and behavioural interventions. This study will investigate implementation of recommendations from a recent clinical practice guideline for identification and management of cardiometabolic risk after SCI through multimodal patient education in a subacute clinical setting. METHODS AND ANALYSIS All patients who are aged 18 years or older with an SCI within the previous 12 months and admitted to highly specialised rehabilitation are included, regardless of SCI aetiology or neurological level. A primary study designed as a controlled, pragmatic, preintervention- postintervention study with 6-month follow-up evaluates the effect of the clinical intervention; a prospective national cohort study on body mass index (BMI) serves as a historical control. The intervention consists of a standardised approach to patient education about cardiovascular risk factors, PA and a healthy diet that begins at the outset of primary SCI rehabilitation and is integrated into existing settings and workflows. Outcome measures are collected at admission, discharge and 6 months after discharge and include peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) (primary outcome), BMI, body composition, metabolic profile, neurological status, level of functioning, depression, quality of life, objective PA (accelerometry), self-reported PA, self-assessed PA ability, shared decision making, and dietary habits. Test-retest reliability of four VO2peak test protocols are investigated, as is test-retest reliability of a multisensor accelerometer in a rehabilitation setting. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The project is approved by the Committees on Health Research Ethics in the Capital Region of Denmark on 10 July 2018 (Journal-nr.: H-18018325). The principal investigator obtains informed consent from all participants. The interventions in the project are closely related to existing rehabilitation care, and the risk of pain and discomfort is considered modest. Any unintended events related to the elements of the intervention are reported, according to existing regional procedures. Data are stored in a secure web-based database (Redcap). The primary study and prospective cohort study are registered at Clinicaltrials.gov. Positive and negative results will be submitted to relevant scientific journals related to SCI for publication. Important protocol modifications are reported to the Committees on Health Research Ethics in the Capital Region of Denmark. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBERS NCT03689023 and NCT03369080.

Abstract
AIM this article shares findings from a service evaluation exploring the views of patients relating to the specialist sexual function education and information provided following a spinal cord injury. BACKGROUND education optimises patients' involvement in their own decision-making and care processes, with the aim of promoting adherence to agreed plans, reducing the risks of post-injury complications, promoting independence and improving quality of life. Sexual function is a well-known quality-of-life indicator and it has been widely documented that it is not well addressed following spinal cord injury. A previous service evaluation exploring education provided to patients with spinal cord injury identified the need for improved provision of sexual function education/information. As a result, weekly 1-hour sessions focused on sexual function for up to three patients of the same sex were held, facilitated by a clinical nurse specialist. The sessions had an open forum structure. They were initially designed to discuss thoughts and feelings around intimacy and sex after a spinal cord injury, but focused on group members' requests. In addition, patients were offered a one-to-one session where the 'mechanics' of sex could be discussed in further detail. DESIGN AND METHODS a service evaluation used a questionnaire survey to collect data from a purposive convenience sample of spinal cord injury patients. Data were collected between July and September 2018. Participants completed a locally designed paper questionnaire, which included Likert-style questions and space to add free text comments. Descriptive analysis of the data was used. RESULTS survey results suggest that the newly formed sexual function education session is positively evaluated in terms of usefulness and all attendees to date would recommend this session to other patients. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS following completion of data analysis, findings will inform the further development of sexual function education, with a particular focus on tailoring it to the patient and reducing the stigma around talking about sex.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evaluate effects of revised education classes on classroom engagement during inpatient rehabilitation for individuals with spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/D). DESIGN Multiple-baseline, quasi-experimental design with video recorded engagement observations during conventional and revised education classes; visual and statistical analysis of difference in positive engagement responses observed in classes using each approach. PARTICIPANTS/SETTING 81 patients (72% male, 73% white, mean age 36 SD 15.6) admitted for SCI/D inpatient rehabilitation in a non-profit rehabilitation hospital, who attended one or more of 33 care self-management education classes that were video recorded. All study activities were approved by the host facility institutional review board. INTERVENTION Conventional nurse-led self-management classes were replaced with revised peer-led classes incorporating approaches to promote transformative learning. Revised classes were introduced across three subject areas in a step-wise fashion over 15 weeks. OUTCOME MEASURE Positive engagement responses (asking questions, participating in discussion, gesturing, raising hand, or otherwise noting approval) were documented from video recordings of 14 conventional and 19 revised education classes. RESULTS Significantly higher average (per patient per class) positive engagement responses were observed in the revised compared to conventional classes (p=0.008). CONCLUSION Redesigning SCI inpatient rehabilitation care self-management classes to promote transformative learning increased patient engagement. Additional research is needed to examine longer term outcomes and replicability in other settings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition and a challenge for every health system and every society. This EBPP represents the official position of the European Union through the UEMS PRM Section and designates the professional role of PRM physicians for people with SCI. The aim of the paper was to improve Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) physicians' professional practice for persons with SCI in order to improve their functionality, social and community reintegration, and to overcome activity limitations and/or participation restrictions. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION A systematic review of the literature and a consensus procedure by means of a Delphi process have been performed involving the delegates of all European countries represented in the UEMS PRM Section. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS The systematic literature review is reported together with thirty-eight recommendations resulting from the Delphi procedure. CONCLUSIONS The professional role of PRM physicians who have expertise in the rehabilitation of SCI is to run rehabilitation programmes in multi-professional teams, working in an interdisciplinary way in a variety of settings to improve the functioning of people with SCI.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aims of the study were to measure satisfaction of patients with a spinal cord injury (SCI) with discharge teaching by nurses and to examine the relationship between their stage of learning readiness and satisfaction. DESIGN Quasi-experimental. METHOD Ninety-seven patients were surveyed to determine satisfaction using the Modified Client Satisfaction Tool; nurses determined the stage of learning readiness for patients with SCI using the Olinzock Model. Satisfaction scores were analyzed with ANOVA F and chi-square tests and correlated with learning readiness stage using t tests. FINDINGS Results showed no relationship between the stage of learning readiness and satisfaction. Patients indicated satisfaction regardless of the stage of learning readiness. Those commenting "nurses don't teach" were significantly less satisfied with self-care teaching. CONCLUSION The perception of patients with SCI of the role of the nurse as teacher influences satisfaction with discharge teaching by nurses. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Nurses may need to consider changes in their practice to help patients realize their role as teacher.

Abstract
Background Health care improvement efforts should be aligned in order to make a meaningful impact on health systems. Appropriate care delivery could be a unifying goal to help coordinate efforts to improve health outcomes and ensure system sustainability. A more complete understanding of how appropriate care is currently conceived in research and clinical practice could help inform a more integrated and holistic concept of appropriate care that could guide health care policy and delivery practices. We examined the current understanding of appropriate care by identifying its use and definitions in recently published literature. Methods An integrated review of the practices, goals and perspectives of appropriate care in English language peer-reviewed articles published from 2011 to 2016. Inductive content analysis was used to describe emerging themes of appropriate care in articles meeting inclusion criteria. Results This integrative review included empirical studies, reviews, and commentaries with various health care settings, cultural contexts, and perspectives. Conceptualizations of appropriate care varied, however most descriptions fell into five main categories: evidence-based care, clinical expertise, patient-centeredness, resource use, and equity. These categories were often used in combination, indicating an integrated understanding of appropriate care. Conclusions An understanding of how appropriate care is conceptualized in research and policy can help inform an integrated approach to appropriate care delivery in policy and practice according to the relevant priorities and circumstances.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pressure ulcers are a serious, common, lifelong, and costly secondary complication of spinal cord injury (SCI). Community-dwelling people with a SCI can prevent them with appropriate skin care (i.e. pressure relieving activities, skin checks). Adherence to skin care remains suboptimal however, and self-management interventions that focus on improving this have been designed. Little is known on their content, effectiveness, or theoretical basis. The aim of the proposed systematic review is to synthesize the literature on self-management interventions to improve skin care in people with a SCI. Specific objectives are to describe these interventions in relation to their content, effectiveness, theory base, and adherence to reporting guidelines for intervention description. METHODS The search strategy will combine an electronic search of nine bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, PsycInfo, CENTRAL, CINAHL, Rehabdata, CIRRIE, PEDro, ERIC) and two trial registers with a manual search of relevant reference lists. Predefined eligibility criteria will be applied in a two-phase selection process involving title and abstract screening, followed by full-text screening. A data extraction spreadsheet will be applied to included papers. Intervention content will be coded using two taxonomies (behaviour change taxonomy; PRISMS self-management support taxonomy). A validated tool (Theory Coding Scheme) and the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) will be used to examine theoretical basis and assess adherence to reporting guidelines for intervention description. A small number of heterogeneous studies are likely to be included in this review therefore a narrative synthesis is planned. DISCUSSION This systematic review will help identify the gaps and priorities to guide future research activities in this area. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42016033191.

Abstract
Bladder and bowel management is an important goal of rehabilitation for clients with spinal cord injury. Dependence is these areas have been linked to a variety of secondary complications, including decreased quality of life, urinary tract infections and pressure ulcers (Hammell, 2010; Hicken et al, 2001). Occupational therapists have been identified as important members of the health care team in spinal cord injury rehabilitation; however, specific roles and interventions have not been clearly described. This case report will describe occupational therapy interventions embedded with principles of adult learning theory to address bladder and bowel management with an adult client who sustained an incomplete thoracic level spinal cord injury.
