Abstract
Background and Aims Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) are a chronic and disabling disease that has a significant impact on quality of life due to weakening of physical health, financial problems and social stigma. This study aims to validate the Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) model in people with human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) in Iran. Methods Four hundred and fifty-two people with HIV from Imam Khomeini Hospital between the age of 18 and 65 years (men: 308, women: 144) participated in the research. anonymously completed a battery of questionnaires, namely the Persian basic psychological need satisfaction and frustration scale, SF-36, PSQI and mindful attention awareness scale. The method of the present study was the structural equation model. Results Current findings indicated there is a significant positive between mindfulness and need satisfaction, physical and mental health and, significant negative between mindfulness and quality and quantity of sleep. Mindfulness and need satisfaction are significant positive predictors of quality of life in people with HIV. Quality and quantity of sleep are significant negative predictors of quality of life in people with HIV. There is a positive significance between need satisfaction and physical and mental health but there is a negative significance between need satisfaction and quality and quantity. there is a negative significant between the quality and quantity of sleep with physical and mental health. Mindfulness facilitates the satisfaction of more psychological needs and improves the quality of sleep. The quality of sleep is a negative significant predictor for physical and mental health but the quantity of sleep is a negative significant predictor for physical health. Conclusion The HRQOL model can explain 18% of physical health and 16% of mental health in people with HIV in Iran. The elements of this model can be useful in evaluating and treating people with HIV in the Iranian Population. They also can use the models to plan for better services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Despite a huge body of evidence on the linkage between dietary intakes and pattern of sleeping, the findings are controversial. The current study aimed to summarize earlier findings on the association between adherence to Mediterranean diet (MD) and pattern of sleeping. METHODS This study performed based on PRISMA guideline. Systematically search was applied in PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar to find out relevant publications appeared up to February 2023. No restrictions on language and time of publication were applied. Duplicate citations were removed. We included observational studies which assessed MD as the main exposure and kind of sleep disorders as the main outcome. RESULTS A total of 20 observational studies included. Out of these studies, two were cohort studies and 18 had a cross-sectional design. A total of 21,714 participants included. Usual dietary intakes were assessed using a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire, and a diet history questionnaire. Some studies did not report methods of measuring habitual dietary intakes. Adherence to MD was evaluated by KIDMED questionnaire, PREMED, alternate Mediterranean (aMed) questionnaire, MEDAS questionnaire, MedDietScore, MEDI-LITE score, modified Mediterranean Diet Score (mMDS), Mediterranean food pattern (MFP) and modified Mediterranean diet score (mMED). Pattern of sleeping was examined as sleep quality, sleep duration, sleep latency, sleep efficacy, sleepiness, sleep disturbance, taking a nap and some other sleep disorders. CONCLUSION In conclusion, findings of published studies highlighted the importance of consumption of MD for better sleep quality.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Metabolic disturbances are of major health concerns in the world. In addition to their high prevalence, these disorders have substantial roles in developing other physical and mental diseases. Diet could have a considerable influence on managing the progression of these conditions and their consequent health-related effects. The aim of the 'Diet in relation to Metabolic, sleep and psychological health Status' Project is to explore the association of nutrition with metabolic, sleep and mental health, considering potential mediators including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and adropin. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This cross-sectional study will be conducted on adults (20-65 years) working in schools of Isfahan, Iran. A multistage cluster random sampling method will be used to select participants. Anthropometric, body composition and biochemical values including fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, 25-hydroxy vitamin D, insulin, BDNF, adropin, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, uric acid, creatinine and C reactive protein will be measured for each participant. National Cholesterol Education Program and Adult Treatment Panel III will be considered to define metabolic syndrome. Diet will be assessed through a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire. Furthermore, sleep status, mental health, quality of life, physical activity and demographic status of individuals will be assessed by validated questionnaires. The collected data will be analysed using appropriate statistical methods. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study protocol was approved by the local Ethics Committee of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. All participants will provide written informed consent. Dissemination will be through conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the association between plant-based diet indices and sleep quality in Chinese middle-aged and older adults. METHODS The study included 2424 participants aged 45 years and older. Dietary data were collected using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale. Plant-based diet was categorized based on 3 indices (score range, 17-85) covering 17 food groups: the overall plant-based diet index, healthful plant-based diet index, and unhealthful plant-based diet index. The associations between these plant-based diet indices and sleep quality were examined using logistic and linear regression analyses. RESULTS After controlling for sociodemographic, lifestyle, and multiple disease-related factors, participants in the highest quartile of the healthful plant-based diet index had 0.55 higher odds of better sleep quality (95% CI: 0.42, 0.72; Ptrend< .001). In contrast, participants in the highest quartile of the unhealthful plant-based diet index had 2.03 higher odds of poor sleep quality (95% CI: 1.51, 2.72; Ptrend< .001). In addition, plant-based diet index and healthful plant-based diet index were inversely associated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores, while unhealthful plant-based diet index and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were positively associated. CONCLUSIONS We found unhealthy plant-based diets are significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Adherence to overall plant-based diets, especially healthy plant-based diets, was positively associated with optimal sleep quality.

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the differences in sleep quality according to drinking patterns and identify factors associated with poor sleepers among Korean male adults younger than 65 years. Data from 68,711 male participants from the Korean Community Health Survey collected in Korea in 2018 were analyzed. After dividing them into binge drinking and nonbinge drinking groups, each group was further categorized into three subgroups according to the frequency of drinking: less than occasionally, frequent, and very frequent. The quality of sleep and depression were assessed through face-to-face interviews using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, respectively. Total sleep quality was the lowest in the group that participated in "very frequent" binge drinking; the groups that participated in "frequent" binge drinking and "very frequent" nonbinge drinking had similar levels of sleep quality. Poisson regression with robust variance analysis revealed an almost 50% higher prevalence of poor sleep in the "very frequent" binge drinking group (prevalence ratio = 1.49, p < .001) compared with the reference group (nonbinge drinking, less than occasionally) after controlling for confounding variables. Significantly higher prevalence ratios of poor sleep were found in the "frequent" and "very frequent" drinking groups compared with the reference group. Health policies could emphasize the importance of reducing one's frequency and amount of drinking. In addition, it is also necessary for healthcare professionals to assess drinking patterns when caring for people experiencing poor quality sleep and support them in correcting such drinking behaviors.

Abstract
Data on the association between Mediterranean diet, sleep and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were limited in Middle Eastern populations. We examined the association between Mediterranean dietary pattern with sleep quality/quantity, and serum BDNF in Iranian adults. This cross-sectional study was performed among 535 middle-aged adults (54% men), selected by multistage cluster random sampling method. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index and a validated food frequency questionnaire were used to assess sleep quality, sleep quantity, and Mediterranean diet score (MDS). Twelve-hour fasting blood samples were taken to evaluate serum BDNF values. Participants in the highest tertile of MDS, in comparison to those in the lowest tertile, had lower odds of having short sleep (OR = 0.44, 95%CI: 0.21-0.91) and poor sleep quality (OR = 0.48, 95%CI: 0.22-0.96), after adjustment for potential confounders. Among specific domains of sleep quality, lower odds of subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, and daytime dysfunction were associated with increased MDS. Higher adherence to MDS among individuals with overweight or obesity reduced the odds of having short sleep; this relation was not seen among individuals with normal weight. In contrast, the association between sleep quality and the MDS was significant in individuals with normal weight, but not those with overweight or obesity. Participants with higher adherence to MDS had lower odds for low BDNF values; however, this relation was not statistically significant. Overall, Iranian adults with a higher adherence to MDS had considerably lower odds of having short sleep and poor sleep quality. BDNF would not be an intermediate molecule for this connection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep problems are common among older adults worldwide. The present study aims to determine the prevalence of poor sleep quality and its independent factors among retired people in health check-ups population in China. METHOD In this multicenter, cross-sectional survey in 2017, a group of retired people was invited to participate in an online survey of health status, and their data, including socio-demographic information, lifestyle, and medical characteristics, were recorded. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the independent factors responsible for poor sleep quality. RESULTS Data from 17,408 responders who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed; among them, 53.04 % (95 % CI = 52 %-54 %) reported poor sleep quality. Binary logistic regression showed that poor sleep quality was associated with a number of factors, including being female (OR = 1.42, 95 % CI = 1.32-1.53), being single (OR = 1.35, 95 % CI = 1.18-1.54), non-smoker (OR = 1.12, 95 % CI = 1.03-1.22), physical inactivity (OR = 1.14, 95 % CI = 1.05-1.23), poor self-rated health status (OR = 1.69, 95 % CI = 1.43-2.00), long-term medication use (OR = 1.05, 95 % CI = 1.07-1.23), chronic pain (OR = 1.33, 95 % CI = 1.22-1.45), comorbidity (OR = 1.16, 95 % CI = 1.07-1.25), and depressive symptoms (mild depression: OR = 2.14, 95 % CI = 1.96-2.34; moderate depression: OR = 4.00, 95 % CI = 3.49-4.58, moderately severe depression: OR = 4.15, 95 % CI = 3.47-4.97, severe depression: OR = 4.27, 95 % CI = 2.93-6.22); while age (OR = 0.99, 95 % CI = 0.99-1.00) was negatively related to poor sleep quality. CONCLUSION The prevalence of poor sleep quality in the studied population is relatively high (53.04 %). Sleep problems are common among Chinese retirees, especially older females, and have a great impact on their quality of life. People living with depression, chronic diseases, and chronic pain were at a higher risk of developing sleep disorders. Therefore, it is critical to formulate effective management strategies for Chinese retirees with poor sleep quality in the context of healthy aging.

Abstract
The COVID-19 spread rapidly all over the world and pandemic process has negatively affected nurses. Sleep disorders and depression are among these negative effects. Managers' awareness of problems experienced by nurses and taking precautions will increase employee and patient satisfaction and provide quality patient care. The study was conducted in descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design to explain nurses' sleep quality and depression levels and relationship between them during the COVID-19 pandemic with 142 nurses who completed Personel Information Form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Beck Depression Index (BDI). Sleep quality of nurses (64.8%) was poor, 33.1% had depression, and high school education, having a chronic illness and PSQI score increased the risk of depression level of nurses. Results highlight COVID-19 pandemic affected nurses' sleep quality and depression levels. All managers should be pioneers in providing psychological support to nurses and preparing and implementing a program for prevention of insomnia and depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a common mental health disorder. Despite sleep disturbance being associated with depression, limited data regarding the association of sleep quality with depression exists. We aimed to investigate the association between sleep quality and depressive symptoms in the South Korean population. METHODS This cross-sectional study used data from the 2018 Korean Community Health Survey, a nationwide representative survey conducted annually at national public health centers since 2008. The study population comprised 176,794 individuals (78,356 male and 98,438 female) aged 19 years and over. Sleep quality was measured using the Korean version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and depressive symptoms with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression. RESULTS The average PSQI score was 5.03 for men and 5.98 for women. Individuals of both sexes with poor sleep quality were more likely to be depressed (men: odds ratio (OR) = 7.02 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 6.17-7.99]). In subgroup analysis stratified by independent variables, participants with the following characteristics had greater association between poor sleep quality and depressive symptoms: unmarried, college or higher education, white-collar occupation, current smoker, frequent drinker, walking physical activity, and no-stress. LIMITATIONS Limitations included the cross-sectional nature of the study, use of only secondary data and a self-rated questionnaire for evaluating depressive symptoms, and inherent limitations in the PSQI. CONCLUSIONS Poor sleep quality may contribute to depressive symptoms among Korean adults. Screening for poor sleep quality and implementing measures to improve sleep behaviors may prevent the onset of depression.

Abstract
Background Sleep quality and the associated factors in professional nurses have been extensively investigated. However, as an important part of the workforce in hospitals, sleep quality and influencing factors among in-hospital nursing assistants is rarely investigated. Aim This study aimed to assess the sleep quality and the associated factors of in-hospital nursing assistants in general hospital. Methods A cross-sectional survey study was conducted in a tertiary general hospital. Data were collected from 187 in-hospital nursing assistants using convenience sampling from June to July 2018. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate participants’ sleep quality. A multiple linear regression was performed to identify associated factors with sleep quality. Results This study revealed a mean PSQI score of 5.96 ± 3.64 among all participants, of which 62.3% (114/187) participants suffered from impaired sleep quality. In-hospital nursing assistants with significant medical condition, low monthly income, irregular diet and high family burden reported more worse sleep quality. Conclusion The study showed that poor sleep quality is a highly prevalent issue among Chinese in-hospital nursing assistants in general hospital. Measures to enhance nursing assistants’ wellbeing status (health and burden) and improve their salary (monthly income) are recommended.

Abstract
To prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19, governments around the world apply social restrictions and lockdowns. Such lockdowns significantly alter daily routine and habits. A growing body of research indicates that lockdowns affect sleep and circadian rhythms. The current study further explores this effect using sleep logs for a relatively long duration including lockdown and post-lockdown periods in Israel. For two consecutive months, both during lockdown and during post-lockdown periods, from March 13th, 2020 to May 12th, 2020, Israeli students were asked to fill out daily sleep logs in which they report their sleep and wake times. The participants were also asked to fill out the Morningness–Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) in the beginning of the study. Data show increase in sleep duration and a delayed midsleep point during lockdown, compared to post-lockdown periods, both on workdays and on weekends. An interaction between chronotype and lockdown was also observed; morning types sleep more both during lockdown and during post-lockdown periods. Interestingly, the midsleep point of late chronotypes is later during both workdays and weekends even during lockdown when social constrains on sleep time are in part removed. Overall, the current results based on detailed and relatively long-term sleep logs analysis confirm previous work using limited measures, such as one-time questionnaires. A lockdown period affects sleep–wake behavior: during lockdown people sleep duration is increased and their sleep onset is delayed. Nevertheless, the circadian preference of individuals is conserved across conditions.

Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the sleep status and its associated factors in Shaanxi province, China. We conducted a cross-sectional study among 11,399 subjects in Shaanxi Province, China. Data were collected via spot field questionnaire surveys. The contents included demographic characteristics, sleep status, lifestyles, disease history and other associated factors. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the effect of associated factors on sleep quality. A total of 11,036 subjects were included in the final analysis. In total, 12.8% of the participants had bad or very bad sleep. In the last month, 8.4% of the participants had difficulty in initiating sleep, 7.6% of the participants had difficulty in maintaining sleep, 8.8% of the participants suffered from awakening earlier and 10.3% of the participants had the problem of feeling sleepy during the day ≥3 times per week. Poorer sleep quality was associated with being female, being unmarried or without cohabiting with a boyfriend/girlfriend, being divorced or widowed, heart diseases, musculoskeletal diseases, concerns about their own health, drinking alcohol, taking hypnotics, and a longer daily screen time. Better sleep quality was associated with medium education level, high family monthly income, good self-reported health status, and having breakfast regularly. In conclusion, more than one in ten people did not sleep well and suffered from different sleep problems in Shaanxi, China. Sleep quality was associated with sex, marital status, educational level, family monthly income, heart disease, musculoskeletal diseases, degree of concerning about their own health, self-reported health status, drinking alcohol, having breakfast, taking hypnotics and daily screen time.

Abstract
South Korean workers have problems getting optimal sleep because they work excessively, and this affects their sleep duration and quality. To compensate for their lack of sleep on weekdays, South Korean workers have a different lifestyle on weekends, which is reflected by the terms 'Hot Friday' and 'Monday Sickness'. However, an irregular lifestyle may be a risk factor for poor health even if insufficient sleep during weekdays is supplemented by sleep on the weekend. The objective of this study was to analyse the association between depressive mood and sleep duration variance on weekdays and weekends among South Korean workers. Data from the 2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were used. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine the association between variance in sleep duration and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score. Additional sub-group analyses were performed to evaluate associations between variance in sleep duration and sex, marital status and perceived health status. The average sleep duration was 419.44 min on weekdays and 463.29 min on weekends. The average sleep duration on weekends was 11.73% longer than on weekdays. There was a positive association between variance in sleep and PHQ-9 score (per 1% increased, β = 0.002, p = .0074), and variance in sleep duration affected health regardless of the direction of the change (positive: increased sleep or negative: decreased sleep). Further, sub-group analyses showed that variances in sleep duration are associated with increased PHQ-9 scores in females and in individuals who were single or who had problems in their marriage. Our findings suggest that there is a relationship between variance in sleep duration and depressive symptoms among South Korean workers. Thus, healthcare professionals should suggest alternatives for optimal sleep duration and sleep methods to ensure the psychiatric health of workers.

Abstract
Humans need about seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Sleep habits are heritable, associated with brain function and structure, and intrinsically related to well-being, mental, and physical health. However, the biological basis of the interplay of sleep and health is incompletely understood. Here we show, by combining neuroimaging and behavioral genetic approaches in two independent large-scale datasets (HCP (n = 1106), age range: 22-37, eNKI (n = 783), age range: 12-85), that sleep, mental, and physical health have a shared neurobiological basis in grey matter anatomy; and that these relationships are driven by shared genetic factors. Though local associations between sleep and cortical thickness were inconsistent across samples, we identified two robust latent components, highlighting the multivariate interdigitation of sleep, intelligence, BMI, depression, and macroscale cortical structure. Our observations provide a system-level perspective on the interrelation of sleep, mental, and physical conditions, anchored in grey-matter neuroanatomy.

Abstract
Objective: The aims of this study were: 1) to determine the short-term impact of the SleepTrackTXT2 intervention on air-medical clinician fatigue during work shifts and 2) determine the longer-term impact on sleep quality over 120 days. Methods: We used a multi-site randomized controlled trial study design with a targeted enrollment of 100 (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02783027). The intervention was behavioral (non-pharmacological) and participation was scheduled for 120 days. Participation was voluntary. All consented participants answered baseline as well as follow-up surveys. All participants answered text message queries, which assessed self-rated fatigue, sleepiness, concentration, recovery, and hours of sleep. Intervention participants received additional text messages with recommendations for behaviors that can mitigate fatigue. Intervention participants received weekly text messages that promoted sleep. Our analysis was guided by the intent-to-treat principle. For the long-term outcome of interest (sleep quality at 120 days), we used a two-sample t-test on the change in sleep quality to determine the intervention effect. Results: Eighty-three individuals were randomized and 2,828 shifts documented (median shifts per participant =37, IQR 23-49). Seventy-one percent of individuals randomized (n = 59) participated up to the 120-day study period and 52% (n = 43) completed the follow-up survey. Of the 69,530 text messages distributed, participants responded to 61,571 (88.6%). Mean sleep quality at 120 days did not differ from baseline for intervention (p > 0.05) or control group participants (p > 0.05), and did not differ between groups (p > 0.05). There was no change from baseline to 120 days in the proportion with poor sleep quality in either group. Intra-shift fatigue increased (worsened) over the course of 12-hour shifts for participants in both study arms. Fatigue at the end of 12-hour shifts was higher among control group participants than participants in the intervention group (p < 0.05). Pre-shift hours of sleep were often less than 7 hours and did not differ between the groups over time. Conclusions: The SleepTrackTXT2 behavioral intervention showed a positive short-term impact on self-rated fatigue during 12-hour shifts, but did not impact longer duration shifts or have a longer-term impact on sleep quality among air-medical EMS clinicians.

Abstract
Background Probable migraine (PM) is a subtype of migraine that is prevalent in the general population. Previous studies have shown that poor sleep quality is common among migraineurs and is associated with an exacerbation of migraine symptoms. However, information on the prevalence and clinical implication of poor sleep quality among individuals with PM is scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and clinical impact of poor sleep quality in individuals with PM in comparison with those with migraine. Methods Two-stage cluster random sampling was used to perform the survey for sleep and headache in Korean general population. Participants with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index > 5 were considered as having poor sleep quality. Results Of 2695 participants, 379 (14.1%) had PM and 715 (26.5%) had poor sleep quality. Prevalence of poor sleep quality was 35.4% in the PM group, which was lower than that in the migraine group (47.6%, p = 0.011), but higher than that in the non-headache group (21.4%, p < 0.001). The PM participants with poor sleep quality showed increased headache frequency (median [interquartile range]: 2.0 [0.3–4.0] vs. 1.0 [0.2–2.0]; p = 0.001) and headache intensity (visual analogue scale, 6.0 [4.0–7.0] vs. 5.0 [3.5–6.0]; p = 0.003) compared to PM participants who had no poor sleep quality. Conclusions Poor sleep quality was prevalent among participants with PM. It was associated with an exacerbation of PM symptoms. Our findings suggest that proper evaluation and treatment for poor sleep quality are needed in the management of PM.
