Abstract
Autoimmunity is defined as the inability to regulate immunological activities in the body, especially in response to external triggers, leading to the attack of the tissues and organs of the host. Outcomes include the onset of autoimmune diseases whose effects are primarily due to dysregulated immune responses. In past years, there have been cases that show an increased susceptibility to other autoimmune disorders in patients who are already experiencing the same type of disease. Research in this field has started analyzing the potential molecular and cellular causes of this interconnectedness, bearing in mind the possibility of advancing drugs and therapies for the treatment of autoimmunity. With that, this study aimed to determine the correlation of four autoimmune diseases, which are type 1 diabetes (T1D), psoriasis (PSR), systemic sclerosis (SSc), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), by identifying highly preserved co-expressed genes among datasets using WGCNA. Functional annotation was then employed to characterize these sets of genes based on their systemic relationship as a whole to elucidate the biological processes, cellular components, and molecular functions of the pathways they are involved in. Lastly, drug repurposing analysis was performed to screen candidate drugs for repositioning that could regulate the abnormal expression of genes among the diseases. A total of thirteen modules were obtained from the analysis, the majority of which were associated with transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and post-translational modification processes. Also, the evaluation based on KEGG suggested the possible role of TH17 differentiation in the simultaneous onset of the four diseases. Furthermore, clomiphene was the top drug candidate for regulating overexpressed hub genes; meanwhile, prilocaine was the top drug for regulating under-expressed hub genes. This study was geared towards utilizing transcriptomics approaches for the assessment of microarray data, which is different from the use of traditional genomic analyses. Such a research design for investigating correlations among autoimmune diseases may be the first of its kind.

Abstract
Tissue dielectric constant (TDC) values assess certain skin properties that are dependent on multiple factors but mainly on the relative amount of water content within a locally measured tissue volume. Because of the non-invasive nature of these measurements and their ease of use, the method has been widely used in various medically related applications. The goal of this paper was to review and describe the uses and findings of such TDC measurements, considering and including the wide array of medical applications. The review is in part based on information derived from an analysis of published material obtained via literature searches of four major electronic databases and, in part, based on the author's experience with the TDC measurement methods and their various applications and his professional experiences. The databases searched were PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and CINAHL Complete. Based on the initial search criteria, a total of 1257 titles were identified. After removing duplicates and filtering according to relevancy, 160 remained for detailed further review. In some cases, the bibliography of these retrieved articles provided additional sources. The findings demonstrate multiple research and medical uses and applications of TDC measurements, focusing on detecting and quantifying localized edema and lymphedema in multiple target sites. These include the upper and lower extremities, breasts, and trunk as regions involved in medical conditions causing lymphedema. In addition, the findings suggest that TDC evaluations are a convenient, non-invasive method to study and evaluate other conditions impacting skin, including diabetes mellitus and skin wounds or ulcers. Its ability to detect aspects of tissue changes simply and rapidly at almost any anatomical location makes it a useful tool for investigating multiple dermatological conditions and their treatment as future applications of this method.

Abstract
Introduction Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, affecting millions worldwide. Among the various complications associated with diabetes, skin-related problems represent a significant concern, particularly for newly diagnosed patients. Altered blood circulation, compromised immune responses and nerve damage increase the risk of skin issues in this vulnerable population. Effective nursing interventions are crucial in managing and preventing diabetes-related skin problems. A nursing skin care protocol tailored to the unique needs of newly diagnosed diabetic patients has the potential to reduce the incidence and severity of skin complications, leading to improved patient outcomes and enhanced quality of life. This study aims to assess the efficacy of a nursing skin care protocol in preventing skin-related problems among newly diagnosed diabetic patients. By analyzing the impact of the protocol on patient outcomes and exploring the significance of early intervention and patient education, this research seeks to provide valuable insights into the importance of proactive skin care management in diabetes care. Methods A randomized controlled trial was conducted at Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital in India to evaluate the efficacy of a nursing skin care protocol in preventing skin problems among newly diagnosed diabetic patients. The study included 30 patients who met specific inclusion criteria and excluded those with critical illness or undergoing skin treatment. Data was collected using a questionnaire and standardized tools. Statistical analysis demonstrated the protocol's effectiveness in reducing skin-related issues. The results highlight the importance of early intervention and personalized nursing care in diabetic management, promoting better patient outcomes and overall well-being. Results The results of the study demonstrate the efficacy of the nursing skin care protocol in reducing pruritus and dry skin problems among newly diagnosed diabetic patients. The experimental group showed a substantial improvement, with higher efficacy gains for both pruritus (66.70%) and dry skin (86.70%) compared to the control group (pruritus: 26.70%, dry skin: 33.30%). These findings highlight the potential benefits of implementing the nursing skin care protocol to alleviate skin-related issues in this patient population. The study supports the importance of early intervention and tailored nursing care in managing diabetic skin problems, which could improve patient outcomes and overall well-being. Conclusion In conclusion, the nursing skin care protocol effectively prevented and reduced skin-related problems among newly diagnosed diabetic patients. The experimental group showed significant improvements in pruritus and dry skin compared to the control group. Early intervention and personalized nursing care are crucial in managing diabetic skin issues and enhancing patient well-being. Implementing the nursing skin care protocol can lead to a better quality of life for diabetic patients by addressing skin concerns. Further research and application of this protocol hold promise for managing skin-related complications in diabetes effectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited joint mobility (LJM), previously known as cheiroarthropathy, refers to the presence of reduced extension at the finger joints in people with diabetes and may be associated with scleroderma-like syndromes such as diabetic sclerodactyly. While scleroderma-like syndromes and LJM have been observed in patients with long-term diabetes and associated complications, the coexistence of diabetes with Juvenile systemic sclerosis (jSSc) is rarely described. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the case of a 14-year-old boy with long-lasting type 1 diabetes (T1D) and suspected LJM associated with Raynaud phenomenon, sclerodactyly and tapering of the fingertips. A comprehensive work-up showed positive autoantibodies (ANA, anti-Ro-52, anti-Mi-2b), abnormal nailfold capillaroscopy with a scleroderma pattern, interstitial lung disease and cardiac involvement. The overall clinical picture was consistent with the diagnosis of jSSc. CONCLUSIONS LJM can be the initial sign of underlying systemic sclerosis. Nailfold capillaroscopy may help differentiate jSSc from classical LJM in pediatric patients with T1D and finger contractures or skin induration of no clear origin. This case report provides a starting point for a novel hypothesis regarding the pathogenesis of jSSc. The association between T1D and jSSc may be more than a coincidence and could suggest a relationship between glucose metabolism, fibrosis and microangiopathy.

Abstract
Background Assessment tools are commonly used in different fields of health to assist in the diagnosis, the evaluation of the response to treatment, the measurement of quality of life and the establishment of the prognosis. Objectives Translate, culturally adapt and perform the psychometric validation of the Somatic Symptom Scale (SSS-8) for use in the Brazilian population. Methods Cross-cultural adaptation followed a combination of guidelines and for psychometric evaluation a sample of 300 patients was recruited. All recommended measurement properties by the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement Instruments were evaluated, including analysis by an expert committee and analysis by the target public. The Skindex-16 was used for the evaluation of convergent validity and Cronbach’s alpha was used for the determination of the internal consistency of the translated version of the SSS-8. Results The final version received approval from five experts and the agreement index was 100% for all items. During the pretest, the scale was administered to 300 patients with psoriasis and none of the items needed to be altered. A moderate correlation was found between the Skindex-16 and SSS-8-BRA. In the analysis of internal consistency, Cronbach’s alpha for the SSS-8-BRA was 0.81. Conclusion The SSS-8 is a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of somatic symptoms in the Brazilian population. Abstract
The care of individuals with diabetes needs a holistic perspective, taking into account both the physical disease and the mental health problems that may be associated. Different studies show a higher prevalence of depression or anxiety issues in diabetes patients than in the general population, which is why diabetes can be considered one of the chronic diseases in which psychological care is crucial to maintain quality of life. The objective of this review is to examine the published articles that relate the bidirectional associations between objective and subjective measures of anxiety, depressive symptomatology, stress, sleep quality, and salivary biomarkers in patients with diabetes. For this, a search was carried out in the electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane, and SCOPUS using the keywords "diabetes", "saliva", "sleep", "anxiety", "depression", and "stress" for works published up until May 2022 and limited to the English and Spanish languages. The sample comprised 14 articles, 5 of which analysed the associations between depressive symptomatology and salivary biomarkers in people with diabetes. Among the salivary biomarkers most frequently used to evaluate psychological alterations in persons with diabetes are cortisol and melatonin. Thus, significant changes in the levels of these biomarkers were observed in most studies. Four out of five studies reported a statistically significant relationship between increased salivary cortisol in the evening/midnight or the cortisol awakening response and depressive symptoms. In contrast, lower cortisol levels upon waking in the morning were observed when there was no depression or anxiety. Regarding the association between salivary cortisol values and sleep quality in patients with diabetes, lower morning cortisol values related to prolonged nighttime sleep were common in the analysed studies. Low melatonin concentrations showed a negative correlation with sleep quality. As it is an easy-to-apply and non-invasive method, the measurement of salivary biomarkers can be very useful for predicting psychological alterations in patients with diabetes. Further scientific studies are required to determine the sensitivity of these biological substances acting as biomarkers for detecting sleep disorders and psychological alterations.

Abstract
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a heterogeneous group of monogenic forms of diabetes mellitus with distinct clinical features. Clinical dermatological phenotypes in MODY patients are very rare in literature. This report describes a patient with HNF1A-MODY presenting with necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) and granuloma annulare (GA). A 39-year-old asymptomatic woman, with atypical diabetes diagnosed at age 17, has a confirmed HNF1A mutation on exon 2 (c.392G>A, p.R131Q), classified as Pathogenic by the ACMG guidelines. She has reasonable metabolic control using oral anti-diabetic medications and has no chronic diabetic complications. Clinical and histologic diagnoses of both NL and GA were made. We discuss these conditions and their association with MODY.

Abstract
Until thirty years ago, it was believed that extracellular vesicles (EVs) were used to remove unnecessary compounds from the cell. Today, we know about their enormous potential in diagnosing and treating various diseases. EVs are essential mediators of intercellular communication, enabling the functional transfer of bioactive molecules from one cell to another. Compared to laboratory-created drug nanocarriers, they are stable in physiological conditions. Furthermore, they are less immunogenic and cytotoxic compared to polymerized vectors. Finally, EVs can transfer cargo to particular cells due to their membrane proteins and lipids, which can implement them to specific receptors in the target cells. Recently, new strategies to produce ad hoc exosomes have been devised. Cells delivering exosomes have been genetically engineered to overexpress particular macromolecules, or transformed to release exosomes with appropriate targeting molecules. In this way, we can say tailor-made therapeutic EVs are created. Nevertheless, there are significant difficulties to solve during the application of EVs as drug-delivery agents in the clinic. This review explores the diversity of EVs and the potential therapeutic options for exosomes as natural drug-delivery vehicles in oncology, neurology, and dermatology. It also reflects future challenges in clinical translation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hair follicles are important accessory organs of the skin, and it is important for skin renewal and performs variety of important functions. Diabetes can cause several dermatoses; however, its effect on hair follicles is unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of type II diabetes (T2DM) on the hair follicles of mice. METHODS Seven-week-old male C57BL/6 littermate mice were divided into two groups. The treatment group was injected with streptozotocin (STZ) to induce T2DM, and the control group was parallelly injected with the same dose of buffer. Seven days after injection, the back is depilated to observe the hair follicle regeneration. Hair follicle regeneration was observed by naked eyes and HE staining. The proliferation of the skin cells was observed by PCNA and K14 staining. The altered genes were screened by RNA sequencing and verified by qRT-PCR. In addition, Lgr5 + GFP/mTmG transgenic mice were used to observe the effect of T2DM on Lgr5 hair follicle stem cells (HFSC). And the expression of WNT4 and WNT8A were measured by Western Blot. RESULTS T2DM inhibited hair follicle regeneration. Compared to control mice, T2DM mice had smaller hair follicles, reduced skin thickness, and less expression of PCNA and K14. RNA sequencing showed that the two groups had significant differences in cell cycle and proliferation-related pathways. Compared with the control mice, the mRNA expression of Lgr4, Lgr5, Wnt4, and Wnt8a was decreased in the T2DM group. Moreover, T2DM inhibited the activation of Lgr5 HFSC and the expression of WNT4 and WNT8A. CONCLUSIONS T2DM inhibited hair follicle regeneration and skin cells proliferation by inhibiting WNT-dependent Lgr5 HFSC activation. This may be an important reason for the reduction of skin renewal ability and the formation of chronic wounds caused by diabetes. It is important for the treatment of chronic diabetic wounds and the development of tissue engineering.

Abstract
DNA, a genetic material, has been employed in different scientific directions for various biological applications as driven by DNA nanotechnology in the past decades, including tissue regeneration, disease prevention, inflammation inhibition, bioimaging, biosensing, diagnosis, antitumor drug delivery, and therapeutics. With the rapid progress in DNA nanotechnology, multitudinous DNA nanomaterials have been designed with different shape and size based on the classic Watson-Crick base-pairing for molecular self-assembly. Some DNA materials could functionally change cell biological behaviors, such as cell migration, cell proliferation, cell differentiation, autophagy, and anti-inflammatory effects. Some single-stranded DNAs (ssDNAs) or RNAs with secondary structures via self-pairing, named aptamer, possess the ability of targeting, which are selected by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) and applied for tumor targeted diagnosis and treatment. Some DNA nanomaterials with three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures and stable structures are investigated as drug carrier systems to delivery multiple antitumor medicine or gene therapeutic agents. While the functional DNA nanostructures have promoted the development of the DNA nanotechnology with innovative designs and preparation strategies, and also proved with great potential in the biological and medical use, there is still a long way to go for the eventual application of DNA materials in real life. Here in this review, we conducted a comprehensive survey of the structural development history of various DNA nanomaterials, introduced the principles of different DNA nanomaterials, summarized their biological applications in different fields, and discussed the current challenges and further directions that could help to achieve their applications in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acanthosis nigricans (AN) is a cutaneous disorder characterized by symmetric velvety hyperpigmented plaques on intertriginous areas like axilla, neck, inframammary, and groin. AIMS To summarize the pathophysiology and classification of AN, provide an update of diagnostic testing strategies, and describe the current therapeutic options described so far in the literature for this disease. METHODS A comprehensive english language literature search across multiple databases (PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and Cochrane) for keywords (alone and in combination) was performed. MeSH as well as non-MeSH terms such as "acanthosis nigricans," "classification," "pathophysiology," "diagnosis," "treatment," "topical drugs," "systemic drugs," "chemical peeling," and "lasers" were taken into consideration. RESULTS The pathophysiology of AN revolves around a multifactorial stimulation of proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. Various types of AN include benign, obesity-associated, syndromic, malignant, acral, unilateral, medication-induced, and mixed-type. Homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is a good tool for assessment of insulin resistance. Management involves general measures (weight reduction and addressing the underlying cause, if any), topical drugs (retinoids, vitamin D analogs, and keratolytics), oral drugs (retinoids and insulin sensitizers), chemical peels (trichloroacetic acid), and lasers (Long pulsed alexandrite, fractional 1550-nm erbium fiber, and CO2 ). CONCLUSION Acanthosis nigricans is a treatable condition; however, complete cure and disappearance of lesions are difficult to achieve. Weight reduction is the most scientific and practical management strategy. Long-term studies and further research is warranted in the pathophysiology and treatment of this common condition.

Abstract
(1) Background: As diabetes melllitus (DM) can affect the microvasculature, this study evaluates different clinical parameters and the vascular density of ocular surface microvasculature in diabetic patients. (2) Methods: In this cross-sectional study, red-free conjunctival photographs of diabetic individuals aged 30-60 were taken under defined conditions and analyzed using a Radon transform-based algorithm for vascular segmentation. The Areas Occupied by Vessels (AOV) images of different diameters were calculated. To establish the sum of AOV of different sized vessels. We adopt a novel approach to investigate the association between clinical characteristics as the predictors and AOV as the outcome, that is Tilted Additive Model (TAM). We use a tilted nonparametric regression estimator to estimate the nonlinear effect of predictors on the outcome in the additive setting for the first time. (3) Results: The results show Age (p-value = 0.019) and Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) have a significant linear effect on AOV (p-value = 0.034). We also find a nonlinear association between Body Mass Index (BMI), daily Urinary Protein Excretion (UPE), Hemoglobin A1C, and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) with AOV. (4) Conclusions: As many predictors do not have a linear relationship with the outcome, we conclude that the TAM will help better elucidate the effect of the different predictors. The highest level of AOV can be seen at Hemoglobin A1C of 9% and AOV increases when the daily UPE exceeds 600 mg. These effects need to be considered in future studies of ocular surface vessels of diabetic patients.

Abstract
Introduction: Diabetic dermopathy (DD) is the most common cutaneous diabetes marker. Few studies have targeted DD using low-level laser therapy (LLLT). This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effect of LLLT on DD in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods: 12 patients with T2D (9 men, 3 women) and bilateral DD were enrolled in this placebo controlled pilot study, and their ages ranged 50-65 years. One side was subjected to LLLT, three sessions weekly for one month (LLLT side), while the other side received the same treatment protocol with a laser device switched off as a placebo (placebo side). All patients were instructed to receive skincare for both sides, such as debridement, antibiotic creams, and dressings with betadine solution. The diameter of DD lesion and the cutaneous blood flow of the knees and ankles sites were assessed before and after one month at the end of the intervention. Results: At the baseline, no significant differences existed between LLLT and placebo sides in the DD and skin blood flow at the knee and ankle sites (P >0.05). Post-intervention, a significant improvement occurred in DD diameter and the skin blood flow of the knee and ankle sites in the LLLT side (P <0.05), while the placebo side showed a significant improvement only in DD diameter (P <0.05) and non-significant changes in skin blood flow (P >0.05). Comparing both sides, all measures significantly favored LLLT. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that LLLT has beneficial effects on decreasing DD in T2D patients. Also, it was approved that the short term of LLLT is a safe modality to control DD in T2D patients.

Abstract
The effects of inflammation on hypoglycemic agents were evaluated in male rats with acute peripheral inflammation (API). Nateglinide (NTG) was utilized as a model compound, since it is a hepatically-metabolized compound and its metabolism is mainly mediated by CYP 2C11 enzyme. In the experiments, rats were subjected to carrageenan injection into their hind paws for API induction, and the plasma concentration profiles of NTG were then examined. In addition, pooled liver microsomes were prepared from control and API rats, and the hepatic drug-metabolizing activity toward NTG and the hepatic expression of CYP2C11 protein were evaluated. It was shown that the plasma concentration of NTG following its intravenous administration decreases at a slower rate in API rats than that in control rats. It was also indicated in the incubation study with the liver microsomes that the hepatic drug-metabolizing activity toward NTG decreases in API rats. Additionally, it was revealed in Western immunoblotting that the hepatic expression of CYP2C11 protein decreases in API rats. These findings suggest that inflammation occurring in peripheral tissues brings about a decrease in hepatic NTG metabolism by suppressing the hepatic expression of CYP2C11 protein, causing an alteration of the plasma concentration profile of NTG with its impaired elimination.

Abstract
BACKGROUD Prevalence of skin lesions among diabetic patients is a major health concern. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis study was conducted to determine the prevalence of skin lesions in diabetic patients. METHODS To identify and select relevant articles, the SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science (WoS) databases were searched without a lower time limit and until April 2020. The random effects model was used to perform the analysis, and the heterogeneity of studies was assessed using the I2 index. Data were analyzed within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (Version 2) software. RESULTS After evaluating the 22 final articles with a total sample size of 8406, the prevalence of skin lesions among diabetes patients were found as 70.3% (95% CI: 63-76.7%). Moreover, according to the meta-regression analysis, the effect of 'sample size' on th prevalence of skin lesions was significantly different in diabetes patients (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The results of this study show that skin lesions are common in diabetes patients. Therefore, appropriate policies needs to be adopted to improve the situation and to monitor patients and outcomes at all levels.

Abstract
Artificial sweeteners (AS) are widely used as sugar substitutes because natural sweetener (sugar) leads to a number of health issues, including diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay. Since natural sugar (sucrose), diabetes and skin are highly interlinked, and also sucrose is known to inhibit the fibrillation of collagen, the major protein of the skin, a study on the impact of AS on collagen is important and essential. Herein, we have studied the influence of commonly used AS such as Sucralose (SUC), Aspartame (APM), and Saccharin (SAC) on the structure, stability, and fibrillation of collagen using various spectroscopic methods. The circular dichroism and turbidity results suggest that the AS does not disrupt the triple helix structure and also the fibrillar property of collagen, respectively. The fibrillar morphology was sustained, although there was a trivial difference in the entanglement of fibrils in the presence of SAC, compared to native collagen fibrils. The thermal stability of collagen is maintained in the presence of AS. Fluorescence and STD-NMR results indicate that the interaction between AS and collagen was weak, which supports the intact structure, stability, and fibrillation property of collagen. The current study thus suggests that the chosen AS does not influence collagen properties.

Abstract
Background: A growing number of studies have shown that thiazolidinediones (TZD) can be antipsoriatic. Pioglitazone is a representative of the class of antidiabetic drugs known as TZD. TZD can activate nuclear peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR)-c. PPARs are expressed on epidermal keratinocytes and exert their effects by promoting the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes, inhibiting epidermal growth, and reducing inflammatory responses. These observations suggest that TZD have potential benefits in the treatment of cutaneous and metabolic pathologies associated with psoriasis.Objective: A systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of combined pioglitazone treatment. We point out three controversial side effects from administration of pioglitazone in psoriasis: elevated liver enzymes, weight gain, and nausea.Study selection: Randomized, single blind, or double blind, published studies of pioglitazone compared with placebo given to patients with plaque psoriasis for 10 weeks or 12 weeks were considered for inclusion in this review. The primary outcomes were 75% or greater improvement in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score from baseline (PASI 75) with pioglitazone.Data collection and analysis: The systematic literature search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases from inception up to December 20 2018. Data analysis was done using Revman 5.3 Haymarket, London, United Kingdom.Main results: We included six studies (three publications of pioglitazone only; three publications of pioglitazone combination therapy) comprising a total of 294 patients (n = 149 with pioglitazone only and n = 145 with pioglitazone combination therapy) in the analysis. There was a significant PASI 75 response, in the pioglitazone only subgroup as compared to placebo (OR = 8.74, 95% CI 3.76-20.31, p < .00001), and the pioglitazone combination subgroup as compared to placebo (OR = 4.64, 95% CI 2.03-10.60, p < .00001), others, the total of pioglitazone as compared to placebo (OR = 6.37, 95% CI 3.55-11.43, p < .00001), and tests of subgroup differences show: p = .29, I2 = 9.5%. The incidence rate of elevated liver enzymes (OR = 3.70, 95% CI 0.56-24.31, p = .99), weight gain (OR = 1.44, 95% CI 0.60-3.47, p = .41), and nausea (OR = 0.76, 95% CI 0.23-2.49, p = .65) were not significantly different compared with the control group.Conclusion: Pioglitazone has efficacy for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. There is no significant difference between patients treated with pioglitazone only or in combination with other therapies. The incidence rate of side effects associated with pioglitazone treatment such as elevated liver enzymes, weight gain, and nausea were not significantly different compared with the control group.

Abstract
Extracellular vesicles are involved in skin wound healing and diabetes. After enrichment and identification, plasma endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles were cocultured with skin fibroblasts or HaCaT. The gain-and loss-of functions were performed to measure fibroblast proliferation, senescence, and reactive oxygen species. Levels of senescence-related proteins, senescence-associated secretory phenotypes, vascular markers, YAP and the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway-related proteins were determined. Diabetic mice were induced to establish skin wound model. After endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles were injected into skin wound modeling mice, skin wound healing was evaluated. Endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles treatment enhanced fibroblast proliferation, and decreased senescence through the elevation of YAP nuclear translocation and activation the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. YAP inhibition reversed the effect of plasma endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles on fibroblast proliferation. Endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles also promoted wound healing in diabetic mice, increased microvascular density, collagen deposition, macrophage infiltration and positive rates of vascular markers, and inhibited YAP phosphorylation and senescence. Plasma endothelial cells-derived-extracellular vesicles prevent fibroblast senescence and accelerate skin wound healing in diabetic mice by reducing YAP phosphorylation and activating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. This study may provide novel insights for skin disorders in diabetic mice.

Abstract
Se estima que en Colombia hay 2.836.500 adultos con diabetes, una enfermedad con una prevalencia del 8,4 %. La exposición a niveles elevados de glucosa afecta los procesos de proliferación y diferenciación en las células de todos los órganos y tejidos, así mismo en los queratinocitos, fibroblastos y demás células presentes en la piel, alteraciones que ocurren en más de un tercio de los diabéticos y que pueden ser la manifestación inicial de la enfermedad. La frecuencia y presentación de estas dermatosis varía según la población estudiada. La dermopatía diabética, la acantosis nigricans, los fibromas laxos, el prurito y la xerosis son las formas más comunes y se consideran marcadores cutáneos de la diabetes. La presente revisión se enfoca en las manifestaciones dermatológicas específicas y no específicas de la diabetes, así como en las relacionadas con su tratamiento. Estas pueden ser un reflejo del estado metabólico actual o previo del paciente diabético y su oportuna identificación permite orientar el diagnóstico primario, sospechar un estado rediabético u optimizar el tratamiento de la enfermedad en los individuos ya diagnosticados.

Abstract
This research endeavors to inspect the chemical and biological profiling of methanol and dichloromethane (DCM) extracts prepared from Abutilon figarianum Webb. Total bioactive constituents and secondary metabolites were assessed via ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC-MS). Biological effects were evaluated via antioxidant and enzymes inhibitory assays. The methanol extract was able to give the highest phenolic (51.92 mg GAE/g extract) and flavonoid (72.59 mg QE/g extract) contents and was found to contain 11 bioactive metabolites, including flavonoid, alkaloid, phenolic and fatty acid derivatives, as accessed by UHPLC-MS analysis. Similarly, the phytochemical profiling of the DCM extract tentatively identified the 12 different secondary metabolites, most of these were fatty acid derivatives. The methanol extract was most active in the radical scavenging, reducing power and total antioxidant power assays, while dichloromethane extract showed the highest metal chelating activity. For enzyme inhibition, the DCM extract showed the highest activity against cholinesterases, glucosidase and amylase, whereas methanol extract was most active against tyrosinase. Docking studies have supported the observed biological activity, where isobergapten showed higher activity against tyrosinase (−7.63 kcal/mol) with inhibition constant (2.55 µM), as opposed to other enzymes. The observed antioxidant and inhibitory potentials of A. figarianum against the studied enzymes tend to endorse this plant as a prospective source of bioactive phytochemicals.

Abstract
Bullous diabeticorum is a condition of unknown etiology with abrupt blister formation and spontaneous resolution. While commonly thought as rare, it is likely underdiagnosed resulting in mismanaged care and increased morbidity for individual patients. A shift in focus from empiric treatment to appropriate diagnostic workup is critical for this condition in the diabetic population.

Abstract
Necrobiosis lipoidica is an idiopathic dermatosis of unknown origin, occurring mainly in patients with diabetes. Splenic abscesses are rare entities. We report a case with concomitant necrobiosis lipoidica and splenic abscess. A 58-year-old man presented to emergency center with a two day history of left upper abdominal pain, general malaise, and pyrexia. On both lower legs the patient had skin lesions. The contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen revealed splenomegaly and splenic abscess in the upper pole of the spleen. On the fourth day after admission, patient underwent open splenectomy. For the lesions on lower legs, by clinical examination, necrobiosis lipoidica was confirmed. The patient was treated by topical administration of steroid cream. After a 2 months follow-up, this treatment was not effective. Left upper abdominal pain and pyrexia in patient with necrobiosis lipoidica may suggest splenic abscess.

Abstract
A variety of cutaneous abnormalities can be seen in patients with malignant diseases, some of which are infectious, with others representing direct involvement of the skin by the underlying disorder. Yet another group of lesions can be regarded as associated markers of the malignant process, and, as such, are termed "paraneoplastic." This review considers the latter collection of conditions, grouping them by the generic type of malignancy that is usually linked to the paraneoplasia. Some of the processes show a predominant association with alimentary tract malignancies (acanthosis nigricans, acrodermatitis paraneoplastica, florid cutaneous papillomatosis, necrolytic migratory erythema, palmoplantar keratoderma, pancreatic fat necrosis, and pityriasis rotunda). Others are usually linked to a hematolymphoid malignancy (acquired ichthyosis, exfoliative erythroderma, necrobiotic xanthogranuloma, pemphigus paraneoplastica, plane xanthoma, pyoderma gangrenosum, scleromyxedema, Sweet syndrome, and leukocytoclastic vasculitis). Finally, yet another collection of paraneoplastic skin disorders can associate themselves with anatomically-diverse malignancies (Leser-Trelat syndrome, Trousseau syndrome, dermatomyositis, erythema gyratum repens, hypertrichosis lanuginosa acquisita, papuloerythroderma of Ofuji, tripe palms, and multicentric reticulohistiocytosis). Recognition of these processes by the pathologist can be a valuable step in the characterization of underlying malignant diseases.

Abstract
Abstract Objectives : To identify and assess the prevalence of skin changes in the older adults surveyed, as well as to detect skin phototype according to the Fitzpatrick classification and to assess whether there was an association between the changes identified and predisposing factors (smoking, diabetes mellitus and hypertension). Additionally, evaluate the level of knowledge of the subjects regarding skin care. Method : A cross-sectional study was conducted in April to August 2018, based on a convenience sample of 80 older adults attending a private clinic. A questionnaire was applied among the subjects to identify their skin care and an answer sheet was completed by the researcher with information about the physical examination of the skin. Data were analyzed by the chi square or Fisher’s exact method. Poisson regression was used to determine the independent effect of the exploratory variables on the response variable. Results : The sampled population had a low level of education and was low-income and did not take proper care of their skin, while 70% were skin phototype 4. Most (73%) were aware of what skin cancer is and a significant portion 50% did not use sunscreen or moisturizer. There was no significant difference between the sexes (p>0.05). About half of the older adults reported having been instructed about skin care. Seventy two percent knew about the dangers of sun exposure. The most common skin alteration was melanosis and an association was found between diabetes and keratosis. Conclusions : The study population was low income, with a low level of education. They were exposed to the sun and did not make proper use of sunscreen or moisturizers, but sought health information from their doctor and knew what skin cancer was.

Abstract
Metabolic perturbations in diabetes mellitus affect various organ systems and can lead to end-organ failure. Though most musculoskeletal (MSK) complications of diabetes mellitus are usually not life-threatening, they are often the cause of significant morbidity. While some of the MSK complications have a proven association with diabetes mellitus, others have been loosely associated because of their frequent coexistence, as are the rheumatologic complications. While many of these conditions are well-known, some are overlooked in routine clinical practice. This article focuses on highlighting key imaging features of less common MSK complications and associations of diabetes mellitus.
