Abstract
BACKGROUND When individuals follow a diet or limit their food intake, they activate cognitive restraint, which is defined as a mental effort to restrict dietary behavior with the goal of losing weight. As an example, fasting has also been associated with the recruitment of cognitive restraint, but further research is needed to fully understand its underlying mechanisms. AIMS The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the duration of fasting and disordered eating, such as food cravings, binge eating, and potential changes in eating habits. METHODS An online survey was conducted among 853 first-semester university students to investigate their fasting practices and frequency over a three-month period prior to data collection. Participants who were on diets were excluded (n=214). After controlling the sample for biases, a comparison was made between 89 fasters and 369 non-fasters. The study compared levels of cognitive restraint, binge eating, food cravings, and consumption of 'forbidden' foods. A Poisson model was used to examine the association between hours of fasting and disordered eating traits. In the context of this study, the rate ratio was used to examine the relationship between fasting hours and disordered eating characteristics, such as binge eating and food cravings. RESULTS The study found that fasters experienced an increase in food cravings and binge eating. However, fasters consumed fewer bread slices than non-fasters. The rate ratio of fasting hours practiced is 115% higher among binge eaters (RR 2.15; CI95% 1.70-2.73) compared to those who did not binge. The rate ratio of fasting hours is 29% higher in participants with moderate binge eating (RR 1.29; CI95% 1.05-1.59), increasing to 140% (RR 2.40; CI95% 1.86-3.11) in people with severe binge eating. As for food cravings (state), the rate ratio was 2% higher (RR 1.02; CI 95% 1.01-1.03) for each increase in the unit of the scale. CONCLUSIONS Our study has indicated that fasting is positively associated with increased levels of binge eating and food cravings.

Abstract
In pregnant women, the Energy-adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII) is adopted to measure the inflammatory potential of the diet, but it does not predict the quality of the diet. Our hypothesis is that a more pro-inflammatory diet during pregnancy is also a poorer quality diet. Thus, the objective of this study is to verify the association of the E-DII with the Diet Quality Index Adapted for Pregnancy (DQI-P) and the nutrient intake from the diet in terms of the second and third gestational trimesters. This is a cross-sectional study that took place in Brazil (2018-2019), with eligible adult women up to 72 hours' postpartum and in good health. Socioeconomic, gestational, anthropometric, and food consumption data were collected, enabling the calculation of E-DII, DQI-P, and nutrient intake. The sample (n = 260) had a median E-DII of 0.04 (-1.30 to 1.90) and DQI-P of 68.82 (18.82-98.22). There was no relevant difference between E-DII tertiles by sociodemographic, gestational, and anthropometric characteristics. The E-DII and the DQI-P showed agreement (55.7%) and inverse correlation (r = -0.53; P < .001). Each 1-unit increase in DQI-P, iron, iodine, magnesium, pyridoxine, and vitamin E decreased the E-DII score (P < .05). An increase of 1 unit in protein, saturated fatty acids, and vitamin C increased the E-DII score (P < .05). Thus, the results suggest that the E-DII can predict diet quality during pregnancy, with the added benefit of measuring the inflammatory potential of the diet.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) have a higher prevalence of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) than the general population. PCOS and NAFLD have common metabolic risk factors, however, the role of diet in NAFLD development is still uncertain in PCOS women. OBJECTIVE To evaluate and compare the dietary patterns and nutritional intake in patients with PCOS with and without NAFLD. METHOD Cross-sectional study that included patients with PCOS diagnosed according to Rotterdam criteria. All participants were submitted to abdominal ultrasound to investigate liver steatosis. Dietary profile was assessed by 24-hour food recall (24hR), and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Diet quality was assessed by the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) adapted for the Brazilian population. Physical activity practice was also assessed. RESULTS 87 participants were included (average age 35.2 ± 5.7 years), among whom, 67 (77%) had NAFLD. The group with PCOS and NAFLD presented higher body mass index (BMI) (34.9 ± 4.5 vs. 30.4 ± 4.9 kg/m2; p = 0.001), Waist Circumference (WC) (103 [97‒113] vs. 95 [87.5‒100] cm; p < 0.001) and were considered physically active less frequently than those without NAFLD (34.3% vs. 60%; p = 0.04). Food intake and dietary patterns assessed by 24hR, FFQ and HEI presented no difference between the groups. CONCLUSIONS PCOS women with coexistent NAFLD had higher BMI, WC and were less physically active than those without NAFLD. Dietary evaluation showed that PCOS women with NAFLD had no significant difference in macro and micronutrients or food group intake and diet quality in comparison to those without NAFLD.

Abstract
Chrononutrition is a science that studies the relationship between mealtimes and sleep/wake habits. However, these behaviors are not evaluated by a single questionnaire. Therefore, this study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Chrononutrition Profile - Questionnaire (CP-Q) into Portuguese and validate the Brazilian version. The translation and cultural adaptation process consisted of: translation; synthesis of translations; backtranslation; expert committee and pre-test. The validation was performed with 635 participants (32.4 ± 11.2 years) who answered the CPQ-Brazil and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI); Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ); Night Eating questionnaire; Quality of life and health index (SF-36) and 24 h-recall. The participants were mostly female, single, from the northeastern region, a eutrophic profile, and average quality of life score of 55.8 ± 17.9. Moderate to strong correlations were observed in the sleep/wake schedules between CPQ-Brazil, PSQI and MCTQ, both for work/study days and free days. The correlations between largest meal, skipping breakfast, eating window, nocturnal latency, and last eating event with the same variables in the 24 h-recall showed moderate to strong positive correlations. The translation, adaptation, validation and reproducibility of the CP-Q generates a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess the sleep/wake and eating habits in the Brazilian population.

Effect of Ultra-Processed Foods Consumption and Some Lifestyle Factors during Pregnancy on Baby's Anthropometric Measurements at Birth. Nutrients 2022; 15:nu15010044. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the association between ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption and some lifestyle factors during pregnancy and the baby's anthropometric measurements at birth. METHODS Cross-sectional study conducted with immediate postpartum women and their babies. Food consumption during pregnancy was assessed retrospectively by a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and the baby's anthropometric measurements were obtained from the medical records. The percentual of energy from UPF was estimated, categorized in tertiles, and associated with the baby's anthropometric measurements using multinomial logistic regression, adjusting by maternal characteristics (per capita income, maternal age, gestational weight gain, parity, physical activity, and number of prenatal consultations). RESULTS A total of 626 immediate postpartum women and their babies were evaluated. The mean percentual of energy from UPF consumption during pregnancy was 30.56%. Before adjustment, there was a greater chance of insufficient birth weight among babies of immediate postpartum women in the highest tertile of UPF consumption (OR 1.72; 95% CI 1.09-2.70; p = 0.020); however, such an association was not significant in the adjusted analyses. CONCLUSIONS No association between UPF consumption during pregnancy and baby's anthropometric measurements at birth was observed, probably due to the multifactorial nature of anthropometry and the interference of sociodemographic, gestational, and environmental factors in the baby's health outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE Aging leads to gradual irreversible decline in bone mass. As adherence to pharmacological treatment is poor, hypoxia combined with strength training has been suggested for therapeutic benefit for clinical populations. The present study investigated the effects of normobaric cyclic hypoxic exposure combined with resistance circuit training on bone of older adults. METHODS Healthy older adults (n = 50) were randomly assigned to a (1) control group (CON; n = 20), who were instructed to continue with their normal daily activities, (2) a group that performed resistance training in normoxia (RTN; n = 17) and (3) a group that performed resistance training in hypoxia (RTH; n = 13). During 24 weeks, RTH group performed resistance training with elastic bands under normobaric hypoxic conditions (16.1 % FiO2). A session of both exercise groups included nine exercises of several body areas with a structure of 3 sets × 12-15 repetitions per exercise, with a 1-minute rest between sets. Bone mineral density (g·cm-2) was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Bone turnover markers of formation (N-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen; PINP) and resorption (C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen; bCTX) were analysed with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) microplate reader. RESULTS Values of bCTX and bCTX/PINP significant decreased in RTN (bCTX: 47.79 %; p = 0.002; bCTX/PINP: 61.43 %; p = 0.007) and RTH (bCTX: 59.09 %; p = 0.001; bCTX/PINP: 62.61 %; p = 0.003) groups compared with CON group. Change in bone mineral density was not significantly different between groups. Based on clinically significant change, 23 % of the participants in the RTH group reached this value for femoral neck and trochanter bone mineral density (vs 0 % and 6 % of the RTN group, respectively). CONCLUSIONS 24-Weeks of normobaric cyclic hypoxic exposure combined with resistance circuit training has potential to generate positive effects on bone in older adults. Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary patterns can influence maternal and child health outcomes. The study aims to characterize dietary patterns during pregnancy as well as to identify their associations with gestational weight gain (GWG) and anthropometric measurements at birth. METHODS A minimum sample size of 95 nursing mothers was estimated for this work. Socioeconomic, anthropometric, physical activity, obstetric and food consumption (food frequency questionnaire) data was collected from mothers and their newborns in immediate postpartum (n = 260) at the maternity hospital. Maternal pregestational weight and GWG were self-reported and the neonatal data was obtained from their records. The patterns were derived posteriori by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Multinomial Logistic Regression and Poisson Regression with Robust Variance were applied. FINDINGS Four dietary patterns were derived: "pattern 1", characterized by the consumption of meat and eggs, processed meat, vegetables and olive oil; "pattern 2", consisting of sweets, snacks and cookies; "pattern 3", which includes cereals and breads, coffee and tea, and processed fats; and "pattern 4", characterized by soft drinks, tubers and instant noodles. Together, the dietary patterns account for 49.16% of the total variance for food intake. Higher adherence to "pattern 3" was associated with inadequate birth weight (low and excessive birth weight); while greater adherence to "pattern 2" was associated with lower chances of inadequate GWG. CONCLUSION The dietary patterns presented mixed composition and predominance of ultra-processed foods. They were associated with the investigated outcomes, denoting the importance of strategies to promote healthy eating habits during pregnancy in order to avoid possible complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to examine the influence of maternal nutrient intake during pregnancy on the baby's birth weight at term. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was used to evaluate a sample of women aged 18 to 44 y in the postpartum period in a public maternity department (2018-2019), with dietary intake collected by a validated food frequency questionnaire (n = 626 mother-offspring pairs). A multivariable linear regression model was used to identify the influence of nutrient intake during pregnancy on the baby's birth weight at term. The model was adjusted for maternal energy intake, education level, gestational age, physical activity, and supplementation during pregnancy. RESULTS Maternal intake of vitamins B3 and C was associated with an increase in birth weight (respectively, β = 0.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.01-0.02; P = 0.01; and β = 0.01; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P = 0.02). Prepregnancy body mass index (β = 0.01; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P = 0.001), gestational weight gain (β = 0.02; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P < 0.001), parity (β = 0.05; 95% CI, 0.02-0.09; P = 0.001), and male babies (β = 0.08; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P = 0.02) also contributed to increase birth weight. These variables explained about 27% of the variation of this outcome (adjusted R2 = 0.27, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide evidence that maternal intake of vitamins B3 and C influences increased birth weight. In addition, prepregnancy body mass index, gestational weight gain, parity, and male babies contribute to the same outcome.

Abstract
Elevated plasma homocysteine concentration is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which seems to be the main cause of increased mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes. Previous studies have demonstrated the effect of exercise on homocysteine levels and the magnitude of these benefits seems to depend on the type, mode and frequency of training. The present study aimed to compare the effects of aerobic and resistance training on plasma homocysteine in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study included 15 individuals undergoing aerobic training, 14 subjects undergoing resistance training, and 18 individuals in the control group. Homocysteine, total cholesterol and fractions, glucose, and anthropometric measurements were conducted. The training program lasted 16 weeks. Aerobic training was performed twice a week and lasted 75 min, and resistance training was performed twice a week and lasted 75 min. Homocysteine levels were not significantly different between before and after training. High-density lipoprotein levels increased in both training groups and decreased in the control group. Glucose levels decreased after aerobic and resistance training. Body fat mass (percentage and total) decreased in both training group, but with more expression in the aerobic group. We conclude that 16-week aerobic and resistance training programs did not significantly affect plasma homocysteine levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Nevertheless, these training programs yielded positive results in HDL control, plasma glucose, and body composition.

Abstract
Background:
The human milk has several health benefits to the mother and child, and it is
the ideal form of nutrition for infants. However, some food contaminants such as mycotoxins can be
transferred from the mother to the child through breast milk.
Objective:
To access the dietary intake of mycotoxin susceptible foods by nursing mothers.
Methods:
The dietary intake of mycotoxin susceptible foods was investigated by interviewing nursing
mothers (n = 86), who were registered donors of the Human Milk Bank (HMB) of Blumenau
(Brazil), through a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The mothers were contacted and those who
agreed to answer the FFQ were recruited for the study group. The interview was conducted individually,
face to face with each mother, by a trained researcher. The FFQ was divided into three food
Groups (vegetables, animal and beverages, respectively), considered most prone to mycotoxins contamination.
Socio-demographic characteristics of the mothers were also obtained.
Results:
The FFQ revealed a high weekly intake of foods susceptible to fungi and mycotoxin contamination.
Consumption of wheat, coffee and cow’s milk was reported by 52, 44 and 51% of the
mothers, respectively. The consumption of those foods occurred daily to more than 7 times per week.
Conclusion:
The study revealed that Brazilian nursing mothers frequently consume foods susceptible
to mycotoxin contamination, especially wheat and its by-products. Brazilian health, environmental
and agriculture authorities should pay permanent attention by applying monitoring programs to
grains and cereals - both imported and domestically produced - as they are highly susceptible to fungi
and mycotoxin contamination, which can be transferred to infants via breastfeeding, apart from
harming the general population health.

Abstract
RESUMO Objetivos Identificar a presença de compulsão alimentar associada ou não a práticas compensatórias em praticantes de dieta low-carb. Métodos Foram utilizadas a Escala de Compulsão Alimentar Periódica (ECAP) e o Questionário de Hay para avaliar a frequência de compulsão alimentar e práticas compensatórias, além de um questionário de frequência do consumo de chocolate, pão e arroz. A intensidade de restrição de carboidratos foi avaliada com escala de 1 a 8 pontos. Os participantes foram divididos nos grupos (i) dieta low-carb e (ii) controle. Foram realizadas comparações entre grupos, além de correlações entre variáveis de interesse no grupo dieta (p < 0,05). Resultados Participaram 853 universitários, sendo 75,97% mulheres com média de 22,04 anos (DP = 3,33) e índice de massa corporal (IMC) com média de 23,56 kg/m2 (DP = 4,38). Do total, 214 fizeram dieta low-carb e 639 não. A prevalência de um alto escore sugestivo de compulsão alimentar sem práticas compensatórias foi de 17,94% (n = 153) e a presença de compulsão alimentar associada com compensação foi de 2,23% (n = 19). No grupo dieta, 35,05% (n = 75) também realizaram jejum intermitente. O grupo dieta atingiu maiores valores para ECAP e IMC e menores para frequência de consumo de arroz e pão francês. Ainda, os escores da ECAP se correlacionaram positivamente com o consumo de chocolate (r = + 0,14 ; p = 0,0377) e valores de IMC (r = + 0,19; p = 0,0042), enquanto a restrição de carboidratos apresentou correlação negativa com o consumo de chocolate (r = - 0,13; p = 0,041), pão francês (r = - 0,20; p = 0,0024) e arroz (r = - 0,36; p = <0,0001). Conclusões Destacam-se a alta prevalência da prática de dieta (25,09%) e os maiores níveis de compulsão alimentar neste grupo, além de menor consumo de arroz e pão francês em relação aos que não fizeram dieta.

Abstract
This study examines the dimensional structure and reliability of the 36-item Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ) in a Brazilian Portuguese version, an instrument used to measure the importance of motives behind food choices. The sample includes 502 adults. Confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA) were used to evaluate the configural (dimensionality) and metric (magnitude of factorial loadings, residual correlations and factorial discriminatory validity) structures of the instrument. Internal consistency evaluation used the Omega coefficient (Ω); temporal reproducibility used the Kappa coefficient with quadratic weighting (κ) in a separate sample of 41 subjects. The final CFA corroborates the 9-factor original structure and shows high factorial loadings (λi > 0.80 in 34 items); two residual correlations (r(i2-i3) = 0.773 and r(i16 i17) = 0.853); and factorial correlations indicating factor discriminant validity (φ < 0.80). Regarding reliability, there is adequate internal consistency (Ω = 0.877 to 0.968), and good test-retest reproducibility indicating temporal stability (κ = 0.768 to 0.917). It can be concluded that the FCQ version has good configural and metric properties, and may be recommended for use in Brazil in its present form.

Abstract
Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis are an issue of great concern in public health so that the increase/maintenance of whole-body bone mineral density (BMD) is clinically relevant and could reduce the financial burden. Whole-body vibration (WBV) has been recently proposed as a potential alternative to bone stimulation, which combined with therapies, could provide a new treatment for osteoporosis prevention. In this sense, moderate cyclic hypoxia protocols may help to restrain osteoclastic activity and/or stimulate osteoblastic activity, enhance the effects of whole-body vibration alone. So, the present study investigated the effects of cyclic hypoxic exposure combined with WBV training on BMD of the elderly. Healthy elderly persons (n = 30) were randomly assigned to a (1) Hypoxia-Whole Body Vibration group (HWBV; n = 10), (2) Normoxic-Whole Body Vibration group (NWBV; n = 10) or (3) Control group (CON; n = 10). During 18 weeks, HWBV performed WBV treatment under normobaric hypoxic conditions (16.1% FiO2). A vibration session included 4 bouts of 30 s (12.6 Hz–4 mm) with 1 min rest between bouts. NWBV performed the same vibration treatment as HWBV but under normoxic conditions. Whole-body and proximal femur BMD (g⋅cm−2) were measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Two-way ANOVA indicated a borderline significant (p = 0.07) time x group interaction for total BMD; post hoc analysis revealed a slight but significant (p = 0.021) increase of BMD after treatment in the HWBV group. In conclusion, 18-week WBV training with hypoxic stimuli has shown positive effects for the participants of the current study. As changes did not differ significantly between groups, future large-scale studies will be necessary to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Fetal gastroschisis is a paraumbilical abdominal wall defect with herniation of the abdominal organs. This multifactorial malformation occurs in young pregnant women, and the underlying cause of the disease remains unknown; however, nutritional factors may play a role in its development. This case-control study explored the association of maternal nutrient intake with the occurrence of gastroschisis. The gastroschisis group (GG) comprised 57 pregnant women with fetuses with gastroschisis, and the control group (CG) comprised 114 pregnant women with normal fetuses matched for maternal age, gestational age, and preconception body mass index classification. Nutritional assessments related to the preconception period were obtained using the food consumption frequency questionnaire, and nutrient intakes were calculated using nutrition programs. The median daily calorie intake was higher (2,382.43 vs. 2,198.81; p = .041) in the GG than in the CG. The median intake of methionine (763.89 vs. 906.34; p = .036) and threonine (1,248.34 vs. 1,437.01; p = .018) was lower in the GG than in the CG. Pregnant women with fetuses with gastroschisis have a diet characterized by higher calorie intake and lower levels of essential amino acids (methionine and threonine) during the preconception period than pregnant women with normal fetuses.

Abstract
Several negative health effects have been associated with environmental pollution. Coal mining activities are related to DNA damage. However, the impact of lifestyle as well as environmental exposure must be considered when evaluating the extent of DNA damage. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to analyze nutritional status, dietary patterns, and the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) among coal miners as well as to investigate the correlation of these variables with DNA damage. We used a questionnaire to assess demographics, health, and dietary habits. The nutritional status was measured in terms of BMI (body mass index) and DNA damage was assessed by the comet assay. The sample population was composed of 158 coal miners from the largest coal mining company in South of Brazil, and majority of them were classified as overweight (51.3%) or obese (28.5%). Hypertension was the most common CNCD (50.6%) and a majority of these workers consumed all groups of foods three or more times a week. There was a significant positive correlation between BMI and DNA damage (r = 0.1646, p = 0.04) and this association was stronger (r = 0.2556, p = 0.04) in coal miners with some CNCD. There was no significant correlation between dietary patterns and DNA damage in coal miners. These results suggest that the nutritional status and CNCD increase the extent of DNA damage in coal miners. Since this population is at high occupational risk, specific strategies should be designed to improve the health of these workers, aiming to achieve health equity.

Abstract
Therapeutic benefits of hypoxic training have been suggested for clinical populations, such as elderly who could suffer loss of lower limb muscle strength and higher risk of falling. This study investigated the effects of 18 weeks of whole-body vibration (WBV) training in normobaric hypoxia on the strength parameters of an elderly population. Thirty-one healthy elderly participants were randomly assigned to a hypoxic whole-body vibration group (HWBV; n = 10), normoxic whole-body vibration group (NWBV; n = 11), or control group (n = 10). The experimental groups received the same vibration treatment in a hypoxia chamber (HWBV: 16.1% fraction of inspired oxygen [FiO2]; NWBV: 21.0% FiO2). Isokinetic leg muscle strength was evaluated using a Biodex System-3 isokinetic dynamometer. Body composition was obtained with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. There were no significant differences between groups in either strength or body composition parameters. The NWBV group showed statistically significant improvements in the maximal strength of knee extensors, with a small effect size (p = 0.004; d = 0.54). No significant differences were found in any variable of the HWBV group. The combination of WBV training and exposure to normobaric cyclic hypoxia carried out in the present study did not have an effect on strength parameters in healthy elderly subjects.

PURPOSE Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is characterized by steatosis, lobular inflammation, ballooning, and in some cases, fibrosis, which can progress to cirrhosis and carcinoma. The progression of NASH is closely related to oxidative stress. Dietary intake of antioxidants has been suggested in protection against oxidative damage and related clinical complications. Thus, we evaluated the potential association of dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) with disease severity in NASH patients, as well as with anthropometric and body composition markers and biochemical parameters. METHODS Thirty-three outpatients with a mean age of 48.4 ± 1.9 years were evaluated. Dietary TAC was estimated from a quantitative food frequency questionnaire. NASH severity, determined by liver biopsy, lifestyle characteristics, occurrence of comorbidities, anthropometry, body composition, and biochemical parameters were assessed. RESULTS NASH patients who had a higher dietary TAC had fewer ballooned hepatocytes compared to those with a lower TAC (p = 0.024). The patients with the highest dietary TAC had a reduction of approximately 20% in the risk of having many ballooned hepatocytes (OR 0.791; 95% CI 0.643-0.974; p = 0.027). There was no association of steatosis, lobular inflammation, and fibrosis with dietary TAC. The same occurred for lifestyle characteristics, occurrence of comorbidities, anthropometry, body composition, and biochemical parameters. CONCLUSION Dietary TAC is higher in patients with lower hepatic injury (ballooning), suggesting a possible role of food intake naturally high in its antioxidant capacity in reducing free radical production and, consequently, oxidative stress.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Nutritional status has been implicated in the modulation of the immune response, possibly augmenting the pathogenesis of Chagas disease (Cd). We evaluated diet quality and nutritional status in adults and elderly patients with chronic Cd in a tertiary hospital. METHODS A case-control study of Cd patients was conducted, paired for gender, age, and co-morbidities with non-Cd patients. Anthropometric measurements and food frequency questionnaire was used, and diet quality was assessed by the Brazilian Healthy Eating Index-Revised (BHEI-R). The Estimated Average Requirement cut-off points were used to determine the dietary micronutrient adequacy. The Cd group was further grouped according to Los Andes classification. RESULTS The study participants were 67 ± 10 years old, 73.6% elderly and 63% female. The prevalence of overweight/obesity and abdominal fat was high in both groups; however, Cd group showed a lower prevalence of obesity and increased risk of disease according to waist circumference classification. There was no difference in BHEI-R score between groups (p=0.145). The Cd group had sodium and saturated fat intake above recommendations and low intake of unsaturated fat, vitamin D, E, selenium, magnesium, and dairy products; but higher intake of iron. According to Los Andes classification, group III presented lower intake of whole fruit and dietary fiber. CONCLUSIONS Patients with Cd were overweight and the quality of their diet was unsatisfactory based on the recommended diet components for age and sex.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This meta-analysis was aimed to evaluate the association between maternal physical activity before IVF/ICSI cycles and reproductive outcomes. METHODS We searched databases of PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science electronic databases, and ongoing trials up to November 2017 to identify studies that focused on the relationship between maternal physical activity before IVF/ICSI cycles and reproductive outcomes, including implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate and live birth rate. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals, were calculated to assess the results of each outcome. RESULTS Eight published studies encompassing 3683 infertile couples undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment were included into the analysis. There was an increasing, but not statistically significant, trend in implantation rate for physically active women when compared with physically inactive women (OR = 1.95, 95% CI 0.99-3.83, I2 = 77%). No significant difference was found in miscarriage rate between physically active women and physically inactive women (OR = 0.76, 95% CI 0.41-1.44, I2 = 49%). However, rates of clinical pregnancy and live births in physically active women were significantly higher than those in physically inactive women (OR = 1.96, 95% CI 1.40, 2.73, I2 = 42% and OR = 1.95, 95% CI 1.06-3.59, I2 = 82%, respectively). Subgroup analysis helped to confirm these results. CONCLUSIONS Female physical activity before IVF/ICSI cycles was associated with increased rates of clinical pregnancy and live births, whereas only a small but not statistically significant increase was found in implantation rate, and no effect was shown on miscarriage rate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To verify the association of dietary patterns and dietary components with new-onset diabetes mellitus after transplantation (NODAT). DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SUBJECTS Adult kidney transplant recipients, without history of diabetes before transplantation, who received a kidney transplant and were followed up for at least 1 year. One hundred and sixteen subjects recruited between January 2013 and August 2014. Diagnosis of NODAT was established according to the American Diabetes Association criteria for type 2 diabetes. METHODS Demographic, clinical, and anthropometric data were collected. Dietary intake was assessed by food frequency questionnaire, administered by a registered dietitian. Dietary patterns were identified by cluster analysis. Chi-square test was used to verify the association between dietary patterns and NODAT. Total energy, fiber, and cholesterol intake were calculated. Consumption of macronutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats (total fats and saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and trans fatty acids), were expressed in percentage of total energy intake. RESULTS Twenty-eight patients developed NODAT in the follow-up period. They presented higher body mass index and body fat percentage, as well as higher levels of triglycerides and urinary protein/creatinine ratio than the non-NODAT group. Two dietary patterns, I and II, were identified. Pattern II was characterized by higher intake of total, saturated, monounsaturated, and trans fats than pattern I. No association between the dietary patterns and NODAT was identified (P = .905), and there was no difference in the distribution of macronutrients, dietary fiber, and dietary cholesterol between the groups with and without NODAT. CONCLUSION Posttransplant dietary patterns were not different between patients with and without NODAT. Further larger and prospective studies are needed to evaluate a possible relationship between dietary components and NODAT incidence in kidney transplant recipients.

Abstract
Assessing food intake is a challenge for researchers given the inherent complexity of the issue. One of the methods used in epidemiological studies is the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The scope of this paper was to identify studies that developed and/or validated the FFQ in Brazil, analyzing the methods used and the main results of the validation. The PubMed, LILACS and SciELO databases were researched for studies published prior to 2013 on the development and validation of the FFQ in Brazil. These studies were analyzed according to: i) the main methodological characteristics of the elaboration/validation process of the questionnaires; ii) the key results related to validation. Forty-one studies were assessed: 6 on the development of the FFQ; 18 on the development and validation of the FFQ; 17 on the validation of the FFQ. There were inter-regional differences in the publications and methodological differences in the elaboration and validation of the FFQ. Adults and adolescents were the groups most covered for the validation of the FFQ, though specific studies for children < 5 years of age were not found. The methodological rigor and statistical results guarantee the suitability of the validation of the FFQ for the target populations, with high correlations for energy, carbohydrates, fibers, calcium and vitamin C.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To ascertain whether the NSI (Nutrition Screening Initiative Checklist) is a valid screening instrument for diagnosing nutritional risk in an older population from a medium-size city in the south of Brazil. METHODS The study population comprised individuals aged 60 years or older selected from a population-based cross-sectional survey. Data collection was carried out at two different timepoints: first, the NSI (instrument under test) was applied and later a dietary recall (gold standard) based on the previous day. Validity analyses were performed based on sensitivity and specificity as well as the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve. RESULTS A total of 183 older adults were studied. Agreement between the dietary recall and the NSI for positive and negative results was 54.6%.The sensitivity and specificity values were low for all cut-off points of the instrument. The area under the curve was 0.52 (95%CI: 0.44-0.62) for the cut-off point ≥6. CONCLUSION Based on sensitivity and specificity values, the NSI proved ineffective for application in the population studied.

Abstract
Objective: This study assessed the validity of a Food Frequency Questionnaire used to assess food intake in adolescents in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Methods: Seventy adolescents enrolled in public schools aged 11 to 17 years participated in this study. The dietary intake of the adolescents was assessed using the Food Frequency Questionnaire and the mean value of three-day food record, used as the reference method. The mean (and standard deviation) energy and nutrient intakes estimated from the Food Frequency Questionnaire and food records were calculated. The paired Student's t test was used to determine differences between the data. Results: Pearson's correlation coefficient and Kappa statistics were used to measure the strength of the association between the two instruments. There was variation in the crude unadjusted (r=0.61-0.73) and deattenuated (r=0.33-0.99) Pearson correlation coefficients. After adjusting for energy, the crude and deattenuated coefficients ranged from r=0.53-0.81 and r=0.27-0.99, respectively. The intake of energy and most nutrients were found to be adequate, except for fiber (r=0.27) and calcium (r=0.33), which showed a weak correlation. Kappa statistics showed good correlation between all values varying from r=0.47 to 0.73. Conclusion: It is considered that an average r value greater than 0.40 indicates a good correlation, the results obtained indicate the good ability of the Food Frequency Questionnaire to assess individuals according to their usual intake of most nutrients.

Abstract
A validity test of a Food Frequency Questionnaire was carried out using 50 students of health occupation in São Paulo, Brazil. Therefore, a three day dietary record was used as reference method and variables such as energy, macronutrients and dietary fiber were analyzed. The accordance between the Food Frequency Questionnaire and average data from dietary record was tested with kappa statistics and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Limits of agreement were estimated by the Bland-Altman's method. Better results were found for calories (ICC 0.43; 95%CI 0.17 - 0.63) and non-energy-adjusted nutrients, except dietary fiber (ICC 0.34; 95%CI 0.07 - 0.56). The percentage of individuals classified in the same category of consumption was nearly half (49.8%), while only 16% of them were classified in opposite categories. With the exception of lipids, other analyzed variables tended to be overestimated by the Food Frequency Questionnaire. The Food Frequency Questionnaire is recommended as a method of assessing food intake of university students in studies which focus on calorie estimates and also intend to classify groups into intake categories.

Abstract
We investigated the effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-rich fish oil (FO) supplementation on the lipid profile, levels of plasma inflammatory mediators, markers of muscle damage, and neutrophil function in wheelchair basketball players before and after acute exercise. We evaluated 8 male basketball wheelchair athletes before and after acute exercise both prior to (S0) and following (S1) FO supplementation. The subjects were supplemented with 3 g of FO daily for 30 days. The following components were measured: the plasma lipid profile (total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides), plasma inflammatory mediators (C-reactive protein, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-1ra, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α), markers of muscle damage (creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)), and neutrophil function (cytokine production, phagocytic capacity, loss of membrane integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential, neutral lipid accumulation, phosphatidylserine externalization, DNA fragmentation, and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS)). Acute exercise increased the plasma levels of total cholesterol, LDH, IL1ra, and IL-6, led to the loss of membrane integrity, ROS production, and a high mitochondrial membrane potential in neutrophils, and reduced the phagocytic capacity and IL-6 production by the neutrophils (S0). However, supplementation prevented the increases in the plasma levels of LDH and IL-6, the loss of membrane integrity, and the alterations in ROS production and mitochondrial membrane potential in the neutrophils that were induced by exercise (S1). In conclusion, DHA-rich FO supplementation reduces the markers of muscle damage, inflammatory disturbances, and neutrophil death induced by acute exercise in wheelchair athletes.

Abstract
This study tested the relative validity and estimated calibration factors of a food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) with 120 food items in 128 adults. We applied one FFQ and three 24h recalls. Validity was tested by the Bland-Altman method, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), classification in quartile categorization, and weighted kappa. Calibration factors were estimated by linear regression, with 24h recall of food intake as the dependent variable and the FFQ values as the independent variable. FFQ underestimated the nutrient intake when compared to 24h recall. The energy-adjusted and de-attenuated ICC ranged from 0.19 (zinc) to 0.82 (calcium). 37% of subjects were classified in the same quartile, with mean kappa of 0.28 (zinc: 0.08; calcium: 0.49). The highest calibration factors were 0.48 (calcium), 0.47 (potassium), and 0.44 (carbohydrates), and the lowest was 0.10 (retinol). FFQ showed satisfactory relative validity and calibrated energy and nutrient intake values similar to 24h recall.

Abstract
[Purpose] A significant increase in the number of oldest old has occurred worldwide. The aim of this study was to characterize the functional capacity of the oldest old residents in a long-stay institution in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. [Subjects and Methods] All participants were evaluated according to the following metrics: anthropometry, body composition (bioelectrical impedance), handgrip strength, balance (Berg scale and stabilometry), ankle mobility (electrogoniometry), physical capacity (six-minute walk test), quality of life (WHOQOL-OLD), and dietary habits (questionnaire). [Results] Twenty elderly subjects with a mean age of 85.75 ± 5.22 years and a mean fat percentage of 39.02 ± 5.49% participated in the study. The group at risk of falls (n = 8) had a lower handgrip strength and walked a shorter distance over the course of six minutes compared with the group not at risk of falls. The obese group (n = 15) had higher values for stabilometric variables than the nonobese group. There was a positive and significant correlation between ankle joint mobility and physical capacity (r = 0.47). [Conclusion] High values for obesity and low values for handgrip strength and physical capacity were associated with worse body balance. Low values for ankle mobility were also associated with worse physical capacity in this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Modifiable risk factors for kidney stones, such as diet and nutritional status, are targets in the treatment and prevention of nephrolithiasis. The aim of the present study was to assess the nutritional state and energy and nutrient adequacy of patients with nephrolithiasis via anthropometric evaluation, dietary inquiry, and urine biochemistry. DESIGN The present observational cross-sectional study. SETTING An outpatient, nephrolithiasis clinic of a tertiary care, university hospital. SUBJECTS A total of 31 patients with nephrolithiasis and 25 controls were assessed. INTERVENTIONS All patients were subjected to nutritional evaluation, including dietary inquiry and chemical tests of blood and 24-hour urine samples. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Nutritional state and nutrient ingestion adequacy. RESULTS The group of patients with nephrolithiasis exhibited high body mass index, abdominal circumference, and body fat percentage values. The protein, sodium, calcium, potassium, and oxalate intakes differed significantly from the recommended values in both the nephrolithiasis and control groups. The nephrolithiasis and control groups differed only in terms of oxalate intake (159 ± 119.27 vs. 112 ± 47.9, respectively, P = .042). Regarding urine biochemistry, 30% of the patients with nephrolithiasis exhibited hypercalciuria, versus 12% of the control group. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of individuals with overweight/obesity was high in both the nephrolithiasis and control groups. This finding indicates that in addition to orientation regarding nonlithogenic dietary habits, continuous education by a multidisciplinary staff must also address the prevention and treatment of obesity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the frequency of iron deficiency and its association with socioeconomic, obstetric, and nutritional factors in pregnant women. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included women on the second trimester of pregnancy seen at a public prenatal care facility of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil from May 2008 to May 2009. Socioeconomic, nutritional, and obstetric data were compared with markers of iron stores. RESULTS: During the study period, 146 pregnant women met the inclusion criteria. The frequency of anemia characterized by abnormal hemoglobin level, hematocrit, and mean corpuscular volume varied from 3% to 5%. However, 11% of the women had high transferrin levels and 39% had low ferritin levels. Before pregnancy, 21% of the women were underweight and 29% were overweight or obese. During pregnancy, the percentage of overweight or obese women rose to 40%. History of miscarriages, higher gestational age, and excess weight before pregnancy were associated with markers of iron stores at abnormal levels. Consumption of specific food groups was not associated with abnormal marker levels. CONCLUSION: Serum ferritin was the most sensitive indicator of iron deficiency. Excess weight and anemia were concomitant.

Abstract
Esta revisão teve como objetivo analisar e discutir os procedimentos metodológicos empregados nos Questionários de Frequência Alimentar elaborados no Brasil. Foram consultadas as bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, Lilacs, IBECS, MedLine e Cochrane Library, e encontrados vinte e dois Questionários de Frequência Alimentar elaborados para populações brasileiras. Entre os Questionários de Frequência Alimentar encontrados 50% deles (n=11) foram elaborados a partir de recordatório de 24 horas, 27,27% (n=6) de Questionários de Frequência Alimentar pré-existentes, 13,63% (n=3) de registro alimentar e 9,09% (n=2) de outras fontes; 72,72% (n=16) apresentaram listas com 50 a 100 itens, número ideal. Quanto ao tipo, 45,45% (n=10) eram quantitativos, 45,45% (n=10) semiquantitativos e 9,09% (n=2) qualitativos. Apenas 27,27% (n=6) relataram teste em estudo-piloto e apenas 45,45% (n=10) referiram teste de validação ou validação e reprodutibilidade. Quanto à faixa etária, apenas 36,36% (n=8) dos Questionários de Frequência Alimentar apresentavam público-alvo específico: crianças, adolescentes ou adultos. O maior número de Questionários de Frequência Alimentar (54,54%; n=12) foi desenvolvido na região Sudeste, especialmente no estado de São Paulo. A revisão da literatura permitiu conhecer os Questionários de Frequência Alimentar elaborados para a população brasileira e suas respectivas metodologias, público-alvo, bem como sua distribuição em termos de região do País. Embora exista uma orientação em termos de proposta metodológica de elaboração aqui discutida, há algum distanciamento em relação ao recomendado que deve ser observado pelos pesquisadores da área, ainda que haja uma maioria de procedimentos adequados aos métodos pressupostos.

Abstract
The EURopean micronutrient RECommendations Aligned (EURRECA) Network of Excellence is working towards developing aligned micronutrient recommendations across Europe. The purpose of the present study was to conduct a review of methods used in validation studies carried out in adults assessing dietary intake of EURRECA priority minerals. A search strategy and inclusion criteria were defined and a scoring system was developed to rate the quality of each validation study that produced a quality index with possible scores obtained ranging from 0.5 to 7. A MEDLINE and EMBASE literature review was conducted. Articles/validation studies meeting the inclusion criteria included: 79/88 for Fe; 95/104 for Ca; 13/15 for Se; 29/30 for Zn; 7/9 for iodine. The most frequently used method to ascertain dietary intake was the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), whereas dietary records (DR) and 24 h recalls were the most used reference methods. The correlation coefficients (CC) between study mineral intakes estimated by FFQ and the reference method were weighted according to the study's quality index and obtained acceptable to good ratings, ranging from 0.36 to 0.60 when the reference method was DR and from 0.41 to 0.58 when the reference was 24 h recalls. A minority of studies (n 9) used biomarkers for validation and among these, five included iodine obtaining a CC of 0.47. The FFQ was seen as a valid method for assessing mineral intake, particularly for Ca and, to a lower extent, for iodine and Zn. Se and Fe showed only acceptable correlations. The present review provides new insights regarding the characteristics that assessment methods for dietary mineral intakes should fulfil.

Abstract
OBJETIVO: Analisar a importância, a efetividade e as limitações de estratégias participativas de educação em saúde sobre a problemática da adesão ao tratamento da hipertensão arterial. MÉTODOS: Estudo de caso, intervencional, de abordagem qualiquantitativa com duração de 4 meses. Participaram do estudo 27 mulheres portadoras de hipertensão arterial, com idade entre 45 e 60 anos e cadastradas no Programa de Saúde da Família de Porto Firme, Minas Gerais. Foram comparadas duas modalidades de intervenção visando à orientação de mudanças dietéticas indicadas no tratamento da hipertensão arterial: uma baseada em atividades educativas em grupo, realizadas na Unidade de Atenção Primária à Saúde; e outra combinada pelas atividades educativas em grupo e por orientações domiciliares. Os dados foram obtidos por grupos focais e entrevistas individuais. Para avaliar os dados qualitativos relacionados à adesão, foram analisados, antes e após a intervenção, o peso corporal, o índice de massa corporal, a circunferência de cintura, a pressão arterial, a glicemia e o consumo alimentar. Os dados foram examinados por análise de conteúdo e estatística descritiva. As variáveis coletadas antes e depois da intervenção foram analisadas pelos testes não-paramétricos de Wilcoxon e Mann Whitney. RESULTADOS: As duas estratégias de educação em saúde tiveram efeito positivo sobre a adesão às orientações nutricionais, o que favoreceu mudanças nos hábitos alimentares e na percepção das mulheres em relação à problemática da doença. CONCLUSÃO: A orientação domiciliar destacou-se como importante indutor da consciência sanitária e como fator de envolvimento dos familiares no processo terapêutico, facilitando a adesão ao tratamento da hipertensão arterial.

Abstract
OBJETIVO Comparar níveis de hemoglobina e ocorrência de anemia em gestantes antes e depois da fortificação das farinhas e caracterizar a prática alimentar de gestantes usuárias atuais dos serviços. MÉTODOS Estudo transversal que analisou dados de hemoglobina de gestantes atendidas em dois serviços públicos de maior demanda pré-natal do Município de Teresina, Piauí. Os dados foram obtidos de 854 prontuários de gestantes distribuídas em dois grupos: não fortificado (427 gestantes com parto anterior a junho/2004) e fortificado (427 gestantes com data da última menstruação posterior a junho/2005). Gestantes com nível de hemoglobina <11,0g/dL foram consideradas anêmicas. O consumo alimentar foi analisado por meio de questionário de frequência alimentar semiquantitativo. RESULTADOS Níveis médios de hemoglobina aumentaram significativamente de 11,7g/dL, DP=1,2 para 12,4g/dL, DP=1,3 (p<0,001) após a fortificação. A prevalência de anemia caiu de 27,2% no grupo não fortificado para 11,5% no grupo fortificado (p<0,001). CONCLUSÃO Houve melhora significativa no quadro de anemia após a fortificação das farinhas, o que sugere que a intervenção foi efetiva no controle da deficiência de ferro, porém o estudo não permite atribuir tal resultado apenas à implantação dessa medida, embora análise da prática alimentar tenha mostrado que as gestantes de Teresina (PI) apresentaram condição diferenciada de alimentação, com consumo frequente de fontes naturais de ferro e de facilitadores de sua absorção, além de alimentos fortificados.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor adherence to non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension represents a serious challenge for public health policies in several countries. This study was conducted to compare two intervention strategies regarding the adherence of adult women to dietary changes recommended for the treatment of hypertension in a community covered by Primary Health Care Unit. METHODS This study is a randomized controlled trial of a sample composed of 28 women with hypertension enrolled in the Primary Health Care Unit located in the urban area of southeastern Brazil. The participants were already undergoing treatment for hypertension but devoid of nutritional care; and were divided into two groups, each composed of 14 individuals, who received interventions that consisted of two different strategies of nutritional guidance: monthly health education workshops alone (Group 1) and combined with family orientation through home visits (Group 2). Adherence to nutritional guidelines was evaluated by dietary, anthropometric, clinical and serum biochemical parameters, measured before and after the interventions. Knowledge on control and risk of hypertension was also investigated. The study lasted five months. RESULTS Mean age was 55.6 (± 2.8) and 50.7 (± 6.5) in the groups 1 and 2, respectively. The home orientation strategy promoted greater adherence to dietary changes, leading to a statistically significant improvement in the clinical, anthropometric, biochemical and dietary parameters. The group 2 reduced the consumption of risk foods (p = 0.01), oil (p = 0.002) and sugar (p = 0.02), and decreased body mass index (-0.7 kg/m2; p = 0.01); waist circumference (-4.2 cm; p = 0.001), systolic blood pressure (-13 mm HG; p = 0.004) and glycemia (-18.9 mg/dl; p = 0. 01). In group 1 only waist circumference (-2 cm; p = 0.01) changed significantly. CONCLUSION Nutritional orientations at the household level were more effective with regard to the adherence of individuals to non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension, regarding the reduction of clinical and behavioral risk parameters.

Abstract
INTRODUÇÃO: A despeito do aumento expressivo da população idosa nos últimos anos, são escassos os estudos brasileiros relacionados ao consumo alimentar desses indivíduos. OBJETIVOS: Propor uma lista de alimentos mais consumidos por idosos residentes na Zona Leste de São Paulo e analisar os alimentos que contribuem para o consumo de nutrientes relevantes ao estado nutricional e, consequentemente, à saúde dos idosos. MÉTODOS: Foram avaliados 100 indivíduos acima de 60 anos, frequentadores de um centro de referência. Para caracterização do estado nutricional foi calculado o Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC). Para elaboração das listas de alimentos foram aplicados dois recordatórios alimentares de 24 horas (RA24h) em duas estações diferentes do ano, que foram analisados quanto à frequência de consumo de cada alimento e quanto à contribuição percentual de energia, macronutrientes, fibras, cálcio e vitamina D. RESULTADOS: Com relação ao estado nutricional, 52% apresentaram o IMC < 28 kg/m²; 15% entre 28 e 30 kg/m²; 26% entre 30 e 35 kg/m² e 7% com IMC > 35 kg/m². O aspecto positivo da dieta foi a preservação de hábitos saudáveis como o consumo de arroz e feijão, e também de vegetais verde-escuros. Como aspecto negativo observou-se que a dieta dos idosos é monótona, pois poucos alimentos contribuem para o consumo de vários nutrientes. Além disso, houve um elevado consumo de carboidratos refinados em detrimento do consumo de alimentos integrais. CONCLUSÕES: As listas de alimentos obtidas, além de permitirem a reflexão sobre intervenções educativas, permitem o desenvolvimento subsequente de um Questionário de Frequência Alimentar específico para esse grupo.

Abstract
With the purpose of generating a list of foods for a food-frequency questionnaire, data from 24h dietary recalls on a typical day from a probabilistic sample of 1,724 adults of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were analyzed. The frequency of food intake, the total intake of energy and macronutrients and the relative contribution of each food item to total energy and macronutrient intake were calculated. The most frequently reported food items (> 50% of adults) were rice, coffee, beans, refined canesugar, and bread. Whole milk was consumed more frequently then skimmed milk or semi-skimmed milk. Beef was consumed by more adults than chicken, pork or fish. Approximately 90% of energy and macronutrients intake was explained by 65 food items. The list of food items generated in the present analysis is similar to those found in other samples of adults from urban areas in Brazil. It may be possible to generate a core list of common foods with addition of regional foods to be used nationally in urban areas of the country.

Abstract
Objetivo Desenvolver e aplicar em um projeto-piloto um questionário de frequência alimentar quantitativo de autopreenchimento destinado a graduandos da área da saúde. Métodos Trata-se de um estudo transversal realizado em 151 universitários de ambos os sexos, usuários do ambulatório de Nutrição do Corpo Discente da Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Brasil. O questionário inicial foi composto a partir dos alimentos e preparações informados no Registro Alimentar de Três Dias. As informações em medidas caseiras foram transformadas em gramas ou mililitros com o auxílio de tabelas, e os alimentos foram ordenados segundo a porcentagem de contribuição para o valor energético total informado. Foram selecionados 198 ali-mentos responsáveis por 95% do consumo energético e agrupados em 77 itens alimentares de acordo com a similaridade nutricional. O tamanho das porções alimentares foi classificado conforme o valor do percentil 50 da distribuição dos pesos correspondentes às medidas caseiras referidas. Definiu-se como porção pequena, aquela cujo valor foi igual ou inferior ao percentil 25; como média, o percentil 50 e grande, o valor igual ou superior ao percentil 75. Resultados Após o pré-teste do questionário inicial, o questionário final resultou em uma lista com 89 alimentos, agrupados em 70 itens alimentares. As instruções para o autopreenchimento foram refeitas, objetivando-se um melhor preenchimento. Conclusão Após as modificações realizadas, o questionário de frequência alimentar quantitativo encontra-se pronto para o estudo de validação e calibração.

Abstract
Objective: to determine if eating habits, physical activity and BMI can influence assisted reproduction outcomes. Material and Methods: this study analyzed 436 patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles. Patients answered a questionnaire and regression analysis examined the relationship between lifestyle and BMI with the intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles outcomes. Results: no influence of lifestyle and obesity was observed on the number of oocytes recovered. Obesity reduced the normal fertilization rate (coefficient [Coef.]: −16.0; p = 0.01) and increased the risk of miscarriage (OR: 14.3; p = 0.03). Physical activity positively affected implantation (Coef.: 9.4; p = 0.009), increased the chance of pregnancy (OR: 1.83; p = 0.013) and tended to decrease the risk of miscarriage (OR: 0.30; p = 0.068). In addition, an inverse correlation was found between physical activity and BMI, and a direct correlation was found between soft-drink consumption and BMI. Conclusions: eating habits, physical activity and obesity could affect clinical outcomes of assisted reproduction.

Abstract
OBJETIVO: Descrever a elaboração de um questionário de frequência alimentar para adolescentes do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. MÉTODOS: Para seleção dos itens alimentares incluídos no questionário de frequência alimentar, utilizaram-se dados de três dias de registro alimentar obtidos em uma amostra de 430 estudantes, na faixa etária de 12 a 19 anos, da rede de ensino estadual de Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Foram incluídos os itens alimentares mais citados nos registros e que contribuíram com 95% do consumo de energia e nutrientes dos registros alimentares. As porções de referência foram as mais frequentemente referidas nos registros do estudo de base. As opções de frequência foram definidas de forma diferenciada para os diversos itens do questionário. RESULTADOS: Nos registros foram listados 306 alimentos, dos quais 249 itens foram incluídos no questionário, isoladamente ou agrupados, compondo uma lista de 90 itens. Os 14 itens alimentares mais consumidos por adolescentes do Rio de Janeiro, nesse estudo e em estudo anterior, foram associados a oito opções de frequência de consumo; 18 itens alimentares foram acoplados a sete opções de frequência e para 58 itens foram definidas cinco opções de frequência. CONCLUSÃO: O estudo permitiu a elaboração do questionário de frequência alimentar para adolescentes da Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, o qual será submetido às análises de reprodutibilidade e validade. Este questionário representa um instrumento valioso para pesquisas epidemiológicas que investiguem o consumo alimentar de adolescentes.

Abstract
OBJETIVO: Verificar em que medida o Recordatório Alimentar de 24 horas como instrumento de avaliação do consumo alimentar contribui para a avaliação de parâmetros biológicos envolvidos no metabolismo de cálcio, fósforo e vitamina D em crianças e adolescentes de baixa estatura. MÉTODOS: Foram avaliados 59 crianças e adolescentes com baixa estatura do Ambulatório de Baixa Estatura do Serviço de Endocrinologia do Hospital das Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Causas orgânicas, genéticas e endócrinas de baixa estatura foram excluídas da avaliação. Foram dosados cálcio, fósforo, creatinina, vitamina D, paratormônio fosfatase alcalina no soro e cálcio, fósforo, creatinina e sódio em urina de Recordatório Alimentar de 24h foi empregado para estimar o consumo dietético. RESULTADOS: Foi constatada ingestão reduzida de cálcio e vitamina D, em relação ao recomendado para idade e sexo. Verificou-se correlação negativa entre paratormônio e vitamina D dietética (r= -0,46; p<0,01), consumo de cálcio (r= -0,41; p<0,001), calciúria (r= -0,41; p<0,001) e o índice de excreção de cálcio na urina de 24 horas (r= -0,36; p<0,01). CONCLUSÃO: Quando comparados os resultados do Recordatório Alimentar de 24 horas com seus parâmetros bioquímicos, este instrumento pareceu adequado na estimativa do consumo dietético de micronutrientes de crianças e adolescentes.

Abstract
O estudo avaliou a reprodutibilidade e a validade relativa de um questionário de freqüência alimentar (QFA) em 83 indivíduos adultos, do Sul do Brasil. Utilizou-se o coeficiente de correlação Intraclasse (ICC), classificação em quartos de ingestão pelo QFA e IR24h e índice Kappa ponderado. Os nutrientes foram log transformados e corrigidos para calorias. A atenuação nas correlações foi corrigida pela variabilidade intrapessoal. Para a reprodutibilidade, os valores das correlações variaram de 0,44 (IC95%: -0,19-0,76) a 0,83 (IC95%: 0,72-0,90) para carboidrato e vitamina C, respectivamente. No estudo de validade, os coeficientes deatenuados variaram de 0,23 (IC95%: -0,22-0,61) a 0,86 (IC95%: 0,21-1,16) para a vitamina A e lipídeos, no QFA1, e de 0,50 (IC95%: -016-0,91) a 0,95 (IC95%: 0,79-1,05) para vitamina A e energia, no QFA2. O índice Kappa ponderado apresentou valor mais baixo para o cálcio (0,10; IC95%: 0,00-0,26) e valores mais altos para vitamina C no QFA1 (0,38; IC95%: 0,23-0,53) e energia no QFA2 (0,38; IC95%: 0,24-0,52). Os resultados indicam reprodutibilidade satisfatória para todos os nutrientes, com exceção do carboidrato, e validade relativa razoável, especialmente para os macronutrientes e vitamina C.

Abstract
A avaliação da ingestão alimentar em populações é uma medida cada vez mais presente em estudos epidemiológicos para a investigação da relação entre nutrição e doenças crônicas não transmissíveis já que as atuais recomendações indicam a necessidade de se manter uma vida ativa com controle da ingestão alimentar. A medida da ingestão alimentar quantitativa é geralmente feita por meio de recordatório (ou diário) alimentar de 24h ou por questionários semiquantitativos de freqüência alimentar. O presente artigo discute os principais fatores que envolvem a obtenção e a análise dessas informações, particularmente no que diz respeito à ingestão energética. Fica evidente a necessidade de aprimorar as condições de obtenção das informações sobre as porções ingeridas, as tabelas de composição química de alimentos e da estimativa do gasto energético para a determinação das recomendações energéticas.
