Scientometric analysis and mapping of 20 years of glaucoma research

Bibliometric analysis and visualization of research trends on HIV-1 capsid inhibitors (2000-2022)

Background: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has seriously endangered human life and health, the main pathogenic agent is human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). The combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) has shown serious drug resistance and side effects, and the discovery of HIV-1 capsid inhibitors is an effective way to solve the problem. Recent studies have shown significant progress in the research of HIV-1 capsid inhibitors. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive overview of bibliometric analysis in this field. This study aimed to provide the research trends and hotspots of HIV-1 capsid inhibitors. Method: Publications related to HIV-1 capsid inhibitors from 2000 to 2022 were searched on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database and screened according to inclusion criteria. VOSviewer was conducted to evaluate the results. Results: 96 publications from 25 countries were finally included, and the number of annual publications related to HIV-1 capsid inhibitors showed an increasing trend. The United States was the most productive country with the most publication number, H-index, and total citation number, as well as the widest international cooperation. The most popular journal in this field was Journal of Virology. Drexel University was the most productive institution, and Simon Cocklin participated in the most publications. Keywords co-occurrence analysis exhibited that studying the molecular mechanism of capsid protein, discovering drug candidates, and improving antiretroviral therapy are the main and hot topics in this field. Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric study in the field of HIV-1 capsid inhibitors, which comprehensively analyzed the research trends and hotspots in this direction. This work is expected to provide the scientific community with new insights to promote the research of HIV-1 capsid inhibitors.

Citation Analysis and Mapping of Iranian's Stem Cell Research Output

Background

This study aims to map the research trends in the field of stem cell research in Iran by presenting a systematic and analytical bibliometrics approach based on data from the Web of Science database.

Methods

In this study, we provide a visualization overview of the distribution of stem cell publications in Iran. The HistCite software was used to draw and analyze the historiographical maps, based on Global Citation Score (GSC) and Local Citation Score (LCS) in order to indicate the most frequent thematic trends. The accuracy of clustering and classification of scientific fields is enhanced by the incorporation of algorithms and main bibliometric analysis.

Results

A total of 5123 records were collected from the Web of Science database in 2020. The most prolific author had a GCS of 5890 and the most productive university earned GCS of 13677. "Cell Journal," with 186 records contributed the highest number of publications. The highest cited document based on GSC had a score of 646 and the highest cited article based on LCS had a score of 71. We documented regular growth in outputs. In addition, the scientific maps based on LCS and GCS have been drawn. The prominent, distinguished areas of study revolve around differentiation, generation, proliferation, and the therapeutic use of stem cells as well as "genotoxicity in stem cells", "mesenchymal stem cells" and "embryonic stem cells". Journal articles were the predominant document type.

Conclusion

Research on stem cells is a biomedical venture with great scientific impact, and its development in Iran is undeniable. This study provides an overview and a framework for the weaknesses and strengths of Iranian research outputs on stem cells, representing the main clusters in scientific maps. We hope that our results help researchers to plan future studies and promote their research productions.

Scientific Publications and Subject Clusters in the Field of Glaucoma: A Scientometric Analysis

Purpose

To analyze the glaucoma research in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus to determine the top features, trends, and subject clusters.

Methods

In this scientometric study, all glaucoma publications in Scopus and WoS were analyzed based on various characteristics such as authors, journals, and co-word analysis. Data analysis was conducted using both Excel and VOSviewer.

Results

A gradual increase in the publication rate was found for articles in the field of glaucoma in both Scopus and WoS databases. In this regard, most publications were conducted in the USA and the University of California System. The co-word network was constituted of five clusters, including glaucoma, intraocular pressure, open-angle glaucoma, visual acuity, and optic disc. It showed that the top 10 highly cited articles were more addressed by epidemiologic studies.

Conclusions

The findings of this study had a more precise vision of the previous research on the field of glaucoma. It also provided the possibility to discover hidden patterns and emerging events of a subject by explaining the most essential aspects of research and identifying the areas that need more research. The findings could be useful for authors and health policymakers in academia and countries.

Analysis of research hotspots in COVID-19 genomics based on citespace software: Bibliometric analysis

Introduction

To analyze the current state, hotspots, and cutting-edge trends of genomics research on the outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) from 2019 to the present (March 2022).

Methods

Statistical and visual analysis of COVID-19 genomics results published in the 2019-2022 Web of Science Core Collection Database (WOSCC) was performed using CiteSpace software, including data on countries, institutions, authors, journals, co-citations, keywords, etc.

Results

A total of 9133 English literature were included. The number of publications has significantly increased in 2021, and it is expected that this upward trend will last into the future. The research hotspots of COVID-19 revolve around quarantine, biological management, angiotensin-converting enzyme-2, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, etc. Research frontiers and trends focus on molecular docking, messenger RNA, functional receptor, etc.

Conclusion

The last two years have seen a significant increase in research interest in the field of novel coronavirus pneumonia genomics.

A scientometric analysis of literature published in Indian Journal of Ophthalmology from 2005 to 2017

Purpose:

To perform an analysis of ophthalmic literature published by the Indian journal of ophthalmology (IJO) between 2005 and 2017 using scientometric techniques.

Methods:

The bibliographic records of all the literature published in the study period were collected from PubMed and exported as XML into Microsoft access for scientometric analysis. Subspecialty wise distribution across time, type of articles published (original articles, case reports, review articles, editorials, and letter to editor), reference analysis, author productivity analysis and citation analysis were performed as per well-established scientometric methodology.

Results:

A total of 2,633 papers were published in the IJO during the study period. Articles related to vitreoretinal diseases contributed 23% of all the articles published (n = 598) followed by corneal diseases (n = 313, 12%), and cataract (n = 293, 11%). There were equal numbers of case reports (n = 894, 34%) and original articles (n = 862, 33%) though case reports reduced over time. A total of 5490 unique authors from 64 countries published in the IJO with majority authors (63%) from India. Less than 80% of articles published in the IJO were cited (n = 2051, 78%) by 24,592 articles with retina-related papers contributing 20% of all citations. Original articles had three times more likelihood of being cited compared to case reports.

Conclusion:

The IJO showed a steady increase in the number of publications from year to year. Papers from the vitreoretinal domain were the commonest and were cited most often. Original articles and case reports contributed equally to the published content though the former were cited much more frequently than the latter.

Evolution of Glaucoma Research: A Scientometric Review

Ophthalmic literature has been subjected to scientometrics in the past both for specific disease pathologies, such as, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, and specific journals to add insight to the evolving trends. This short scientometric review looks at the distribution pattern and subject domain knowledge of worldwide glaucoma research with data extracted from Web of Science (WoS, Clarivate Analytics) for the past 74 years.

Research Trends and Hotspot Analysis of Conjunctival Bacteria Based on CiteSpace Software

OBJECTIVE

To sort out the literature related to conjunctival bacteria and summarize research hotspots and trends of this field.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The relevant literature data from 1900 to 2019 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. After manual selection, each document record includes title, author, keywords, abstract, year, organization, and citation. We imported the downloaded data into CiteSpace V (version 5.5R2) to draw the knowledge map and conduct cooperative network analysis, discipline and journal analysis, cluster analysis, and burst keyword analysis.

RESULTS

After manual screening, there were 285 relevant papers published in the last 28 years (from 1991 to 2019), and the number is increasing year by year. The publications of conjunctival bacteria were dedicated by 1381 authors of 451 institutions in 56 countries/regions. The United States dominates this field (82 literatures), followed by Germany (23 literatures) and Japan (23 literatures). Overall, most cited papers were published with a focus on molecular biology, genetics, nursing, and toxicology. Most papers fall into the category of ophthalmology, veterinary sciences, and pharmacology and pharmacy. The only organized cluster is the "postantibiotic effect," and the top 5 keywords with the strongest citation bursts include "postoperative endophthalmiti(s)," "infectious keratoconjunctiviti(s)," "conjunctiviti(s)," "resistance," and "diversity".

CONCLUSION

The global field of conjunctival bacteria has expanded in the last 28 years. The United States contributes most. However, there are little cooperation among authors and institutions. Overall, this bibliometric study organized one cluster, "postantibiotic effect", and identified the top 5 hotspots in conjunctival bacteria research: "postoperative endophthalmiti(s)," "infectious keratoconjunctiviti(s)," "conjunctiviti(s)," "resistance," and "diversity". Thus, further research focuses on these topics that may be more helpful to prevent ocular infection and improve prophylaxis strategies to bring a benefit to patients in the near future.

Research trends on the relationship between Microbiota and Gastric Cancer: A Bibliometric Analysis from 2000 to 2019

Background: Hundreds of studies have found that the microbiota contributes to the development of gastric cancer in the past two decades. This study aimed to access the research trends of microbiota and gastric cancer.

Materials and Methods: Publications from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2019 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and screened according to inclusion criteria. Different kinds of software, SPSS21.0, HistCite, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the online bibliometric analysis platform were used to evaluate and visualize the results.

Results: A total of 196 publications were finally identified, and the annual number of publications showed an increasing trend. These publications were from 44 countries and the USA showed its dominant position in publication outputs, H-index, total citations, and international collaborations. The journal of Helicobacter was the most productive journal. Correa P and Peek RM published the most papers, and the most productive institution was Vanderbilt University. The keyword of “Helicobacter pylori” ranked first in research frontiers and appeared earlier, and the keyword of “microbiota” began to appear in the past 3 to 5 years.

Conclusion: The annual number of publications would continue to grow. Besides the traditional Helicobacter pylori related researches, future research hotspots will focus on microbiota and its mechanism of action.

Trends in conjunctivochalasis research from 1986 to 2017: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

With the aging of the population and the use of video terminals, the incidence of Conjunctivochalasis is getting higher, and related research is increasing. So our research aimed to use visualization software to display the research trends of Conjunctivochalasis.

METHODS

Retrieved the document (from 1986 to 2017) of conjunctivochalasis in the web of science core collection, analyzed by Citespace V.

RESULTS

The main language is English. Article is the key type of document. The average annual number of publications in the time period from 2008 to 2017 was 11.6, which was significantly higher than the period from 1994 to 2007, indicating that the total number of publications has been continuously developed. The law of frequency quoted showed an upward trend yearly. Furthermore, we can find out that Japan, USA, and People's Republic of China were the most productive countries, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine was the most prolific institution, Shanghai Jiaotong University is a key institution. The average IF of journals was 3.0508. Cornea and Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology are core journals. Tseng SCG is the most active scholar. All cited author contributed to 5 classifications. Di PMA paper is a classic literature. Huang YK paper can be regarded as the frontier document. All cited-reference dedicated to 7 categories. Conjunctivochalasis is the hot topic, related to observe indicators, risk factors, treatment, graded diagnosis of conjunctivochalasis, etc. In addition, fibroblast was research hotspot. At length, the cluster map of keyword was divided into 7 categories.

CONCLUSION

This research will help relevant clinicians and researchers to accurately and quickly grasp the research trends in the field, and continue to conduct new research on the basis.
