Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) constitutes a substantial proportion of cases among the non-obese population, yet it is frequently overlooked. Studies investigating the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG)-related parameters (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR) and NAFLD in non-obese individuals is limited. Thus, this study aims to investigate the association between TyG-related parameters and NAFLD in non-obese individuals to improve early detection and intervention strategies for NAFLD in this population. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the NAFLD database, including 11,987 participants who underwent health examinations between 2004 and 2015. Logistic regression models were employed to evaluate the relationship between TyG-related parameters and NAFLD risk, incorporating cubic spline functions and smooth curve fitting to identify potential nonlinear relationships. ROC curve analysis was conducted to assess the predictive performance of thee parameters. After controlling for confounding variables, the incidence of NAFLD in non-obese individuals increased with higher TyG-related parameters. Notably, nonlinear relationships between the TyG index and its related parameters regarding NAFLD risk were identified. The areas under the ROC curve for the TyG index and its related parameters were 0.7984, 0.8553, 0.8584, and 0.8353, respectively. Importantly, the predictive ability of the TyG index and its related parameters was stronger in the female population than in that of males. A positive and nonlinear relationship exists between the TyG-related parameters in relation to the risk of NAFLD. The TyG-related parameters exhibit predictive capabilities for NAFLD, with TyG-related parameters demonstrating greater strength than the TyG index itself.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the correlation and predictive value of TyG and related parameters with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) MAFLD. This study retrospectively included individuals who underwent health examinations and abdominal ultrasound from July 2021 to June 2024 at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Sichuan Province, China. A total of 71,299 subjects' clinical and laboratory data were extracted, the correlation between TyG and related parameters and MAFLD was analyzed via univariate and multivariate logistic regression methods, and the nonlinear relationship between the TyG index and the risk of MAFLD was explored via restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis. The predictive value of TyG and related parameters for MAFLD was assessed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the ROC curve (AUC). TyG and related parameters were positively correlated with MAFLD, and the results remained unchanged after adjustment for the corresponding parameters. RCS analysis revealed a significant dose‒response relationship between TyG and related parameters and MAFLD. ROC curve analysis revealed AUC values of 0.83 (0.82-0.83), 0.92 (0.91-0.92), 0.90 (0.90-0.91), and 0.87 (0.87-0.88) for TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHR, respectively. Subgroup analyses revealed that the TyG index and related parameters had greater predictive value in the female, younger, and BMI < 23.7 populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present umbrella review aims to collate and summarize the findings from previous meta-analyses on the Triglyceride and Glucose (TyG) Index, providing insights to clinicians, researchers, and policymakers regarding the usefulness of this biomarker in various clinical settings. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science up to April 14, 2024, without language restrictions. The AMSTAR2 checklist assessed the methodological quality of the included meta-analyses. Statistical analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. RESULTS A total of 32 studies were finally included. The results revealed significant associations between the TyG index and various health outcomes. For kidney outcomes, a high TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) (OR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.82-2.77) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) (RR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.32-1.63). High TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (RR = 3.53, 95% CI: 2.74-4.54), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (OR = 2.41, 95% CI: 1.48-3.91), and diabetic retinopathy (DR) (OR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.31-4.19). Regarding metabolic diseases, the TyG index was significantly higher in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) (SMD = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.57-1.15), metabolic syndrome (MD = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.74-0.93), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (OR = 2.36, 95% CI: 1.88-2.97) compared to those without these conditions. In cerebrovascular diseases, a higher TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of dementia (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.12-1.16), cognitive impairment (OR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.38-3.86), and ischemic stroke (OR = 1.37, 95% CI: 1.22-1.54). For cardiovascular outcomes, the TyG index showed significant associations with an increased risk of heart failure (HF) (HR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.12-1.30), atrial fibrillation (AF) (SMD = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.57-1.87), and hypertension (HTN) (RR = 1.52, 95% CI: 1.25-1.85). CONCLUSION The TyG index is a promising biomarker for screening and predicting various medical conditions, particularly those related to insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. However, the heterogeneity and methodological quality of the included studies suggest the need for further high-quality research to confirm these findings and refine the clinical utility of the TyG index.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research on Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) is still in its early stages, with few studies available to identify and predict effective indicators of this disease. On the other hand, early diagnosis and intervention are crucial to reduce the burden of MAFLD. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of eleven anthropometric indices and their appropriate cut-off values as a non-invasive method to predict and diagnose MAFLD in the Iranian population. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed baseline data from the Hoveyzeh Cohort Study, a prospective population-based study conducted in Iran that enrolled a total of 7836 subjects aged 35 to 70 years from May 2016 through August 2018. RESULTS The optimal cut-off values of anthropometric indices for predicting MAFLD risk were determined for waist circumference(WC) (102.25 cm for males and 101.45 cm for females), body mass index (BMI) (27.80 kg/m2 for males and 28.75 kg/m2 for females), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (0.96 for both males and females), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) (0.56 for males and 0.63 for females), body adiposity index (BAI) (23.24 for males and 32.97 for females), visceral adiposity index (VAI) (1.64 for males and 1.88 for females), weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) (10.63 for males and 11.71 for females), conicity index (CI) (1.29 for males and 1.36 for females), body roundness index (BRI) (4.52 for males and 6.45 for females), relative fat mass (RFM) (28.18 for males and 44.91 for females) and abdominal volume index (AVI) (18.85 for males and for 21.37 females). VAI in males (sensitivity: 77%, specificity: 60%, Youden's Index: 0.37) and RFM in females (sensitivity: 76%, specificity: 59%, Youden's Index: 0.35) were found to have higher sensitivity and specificity compared to other anthropometric indices. Furthermore, anthropometric indices demonstrated statistically significant correlations with various hepatic and cardiometabolic indices. Among these, the strongest positive correlations were observed between WC, BMI, BAI, BRI, and AVI with the Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI), TyG-BMI, and TyG-WC, as well as between VAI and the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP), Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP), Cardiometabolic Index (CMI), and the Triglyceride and Glucose (TyG) Index. CONCLUSION Anthropometric indices are effective in predicting MAFLD risk among Iranian adults, with WWI, VAI, and RFM identified as the strongest predictors. The proposed cutoff values could serve as a straightforward and non-invasive methods for the early diagnosis of MAFLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disease, which lacks effective drug treatments. This study aimed to construct an eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) prediction model to identify or evaluate potential NAFLD patients. METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted a longitudinal study of 22,140 individuals from the Beijing Health Management Cohort. Variable filtering was performed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. Random Over Sampling Examples was used to address imbalanced data. Next, the XGBoost model and the other three machine learning (ML) models were built using balanced data. Finally, the variable importance of the XGBoost model was ranked. Among four ML algorithms, we got that the XGBoost model outperformed the other models with the following results: accuracy of 0.835, sensitivity of 0.835, specificity of 0.834, Youden index of 0.669, precision of 0.831, recall of 0.835, F-1 score of 0.833, and an area under the curve of 0.914. The top five variables with the greatest impact on the onset of NAFLD were aspartate aminotransferase, cardiometabolic index, body mass index, alanine aminotransferase, and triglyceride-glucose index. CONCLUSION The predictive model based on the XGBoost algorithm enables early prediction of the onset of NAFLD. Additionally, assessing variable importance provides valuable insights into the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

Abstract
Introduction Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is newly proposed nomenclature, and its diagnosis involves an algorithm that can be complicated and impractical for clinicians in real-world clinical settings. Thus, we investigated the association between MAFLD and modified triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) indices to find a more concise, feasible method for predicting MAFLD in everyday clinical care. Methods Data were obtained from people who voluntarily underwent health check-ups at the Health Promotion Centre of Gangnam Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine, from January 2017 to October 2020. Four indices were analyzed: TyG-body to mass index (BMI), TyG-waist circumference (WC), TyG, and the fatty liver index (FLI). The odds ratios for MAFLD according to each index were calculated using multiple logistic regression analyses, and the receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) and area under the ROC were obtained to find the predictive powers of each index. Results The final number of study participants was 22,391, 8,246 with MAFLD and 14,145 without MAFLD. The odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) from TyG-WC and TyG-BMI after adjusting for confounding variables were 12.484 (9.962-15.644) and 12.494 (9.790-15.946), respectively, for quartile 2, 54.332 (43.131-68.442) and 51.580 (40.495-65.699) for quartile 3, and 165.804 (130.243-211.076) and 128.592 (100.601-164.371) for quartile 4. The area under the ROC curve values for TyG-WC and TyG-BMI were 0.862 (0.857-0.867) and 0.867 (0.862-0.872), respectively. Conclusion The modified TyG indices are highly reliable markers for predicting MAFLD that clinicians can easily and practically apply in everyday, real-world, clinical care settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to explore the diagnostic value of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) and its related parameters in metabolism-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). DESIGN A cross-sectional study of residents who attended medical checkups at the First Hospital of Nanping City, Fujian Medical University, between 2015 and 2017. SETTING One participation centre. PARTICIPANTS 2605 subjects met the inclusion-exclusion criteria and were grouped according to whether they had MAFLD. RESULTS The TyG index and its associated parameters are positively associated with the risk of developing MAFLD (p<0.001). Restriction cube spline analysis showed a significant dose-response relationship between the TyG index and MAFLD. The risk of developing MAFLD increases significantly with a higher TyG index. After adjusting for confounders, this relationship remains (OR: 4.89, 95% CI 3.98 to 6.00). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves of the TyG index for MAFLD detection were 0.793 (0.774 to 0.812). The areas under the curve (AUC) of TyG-related parameters were improved, among which TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC) showed the largest AUC for MAFLD detection (0.873, 95% CI 0.860 to 0.887). In addition, the best cut-off value of the TyG-WC was 716.743, with a sensitivity and specificity of 88.7% and 71.4%, respectively. CONCLUSION The TyG index effectively identifies MAFLD, and the TyG-related parameters improved the identification and diagnosis of MAFLD, suggesting that TyG-related parameters, especially TyG-WC, may be a useful marker for diagnosing MAFLD.

Abstract
Objective Thyroid hormones (THs) exert instrumental effects in regulating lipids metabolism. Whereas, research investigating the relationship between sensitivity indices to THs and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) have contradicted this. This study was designed to approach the correlation between sensitivity indices to THs and MAFLD in euthyroid subjects. Methods An overall sample of 6356 euthyroid participants were enrolled in a Chinese hospital. Free triiodothyronine to free thyroxine ratio (FT3/FT4), thyrotropin triiodothyronine resistance index (TT3RI), thyrotropin thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI), thyroid stimulating hormone index (TSHI) and thyroid feedback quantile-based indices (TFQIFT3 and TFQIFT4) were collected as sensitivity indicators to THs. Participants were split into two groups based on whether they suffered with MAFLD or not. And participants were categorized into quartiles based on sensitivity indicators to THs. The effects of sensitivity indices to THs on MAFLD were analyzed using regression analysis. Bootstrap was performed to assess the mediation effect of triglyceride glucose (TyG) index on the relationship between sensitivity parameters to THs and MAFLD. Results The incidence of MAFLD in euthyroid subjects was 34.47%. As FT3/FT4, TT3RI and TFQIFT3 levels rose, so did the MAFLD prevalence. After adjustment for confounders, logistic regression analyses indicated that the high-level FT3/FT4 and TFQIFT3 still remained risk factors for MAFLD. The relevance of FT3/FT4 and MAFLD was stronger among those whose age ≤ 40 years and had non-visceral obesity. And the interrelation between TFQIFT3 and MAFLD was stronger in subjects whose age ≤ 40 years. Mediation analyses suggested that TyG index had a noteworthy indirect impact on the relationship between FT3/FT4, TFQIFT3 and MAFLD. Conclusion Increased FT3/FT4 and TFQIFT3 were significantly related to MAFLD prevalence in populations with normal thyroid function. TyG index partly mediated the relevance between FT3/FT4, TFQIFT3 and MAFLD.

Abstract
Background Insulin resistance (IR) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are closely related. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) has been proposed as a new indicator of IR. It remains unclear whether the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is prospectively associated with incident nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods This large-scale study comprised 1 prospective cohort totaling 22,758 subjects without NAFLD at baseline who underwent repeated health examinations and 1 subcohort totaling 7,722 subjects with more than three visits. The TyG index was ascertained mathematically by ln (fasting triglycerides [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2). NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasound without other concomitant liver diseases. A combinatorial Cox proportional hazard model and latent class growth mixture modeling method were used to identify the association of the TyG index and its transition trajectories with NAFLD risk. Results During 53,481 person-years of follow-up, there were 5319 incident cases with NAFLD. Compared with those in the lowest quartile of the baseline TyG index, participants in the highest quartile had 2.52-fold (95% confidence interval, 2.21-2.86) higher odds of incident NAFLD. Similarly, restricted cubic spline analysis showed a dose-response relationship (p nonlinearity<0.001). Subgroup analyses showed a more significant association in the female and normal body size populations (p for interaction<0.001). Three distinct trajectories of changes in the TyG index were identified. Compared with the continued low group, the moderately increasing and highly increasing groups conferred 1.91-fold (1.65-2.21) and 2.19-fold (1.73-2.77) higher NAFLD risk, respectively. Conclusions Participants with a higher baseline TyG index or a higher excessive TyG exposure were associated with an increased NAFLD risk. The findings imply that lifestyle interventions and modulation of IR might be considered to both reduce TyG index levels and prevent NAFLD development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) is a major pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has recently gained popularity to assess IR and NAFLD due to its simplicity and low cost. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the relationship between the TyG index and aminotransferase. METHODS A serial cross-sectional study was conducted among 232,235 Royal Thai Army (RTA) personnel aged 35-60 years from 2017-2021. Elevated aminotransferase was defined as ≥ 40 U/L and ≥ 35 U/L among males and females, respectively. A linear regression analysis between the TyG index and log-transformed aminotransferase was performed. High- and low-TyG index groups were divided according to Youden's index cut point for predicting elevated aminotransferase. Multivariable logistic analysis was also utilized to investigate the association between the TyG index and elevated aminotransferase. RESULTS The TyG index revealed a dose‒response relationship with log-transformed aminotransferase in both sexes and all age groups. The TyG index was positively associated with the prevalence of elevated aminotransferases. In comparison with the first TyG quartile (< 8.37), participants in the fourth quartile (> 9.23) had a higher chance for elevated ALT (AOR: 2.81, 95% CI: 2.71-2.90 for males and AOR: 4.01, 95% CI: 3.50-4.60 for females, P < 0.001 for both). In the fourth TyG quartile, the prevalence of elevated ALT was 47.8% and 40.2% in the participants aged 35-44 and male participants, respectively. CONCLUSION A high TyG index is a novel risk factor for elevated aminotransferase among RTA personnel. Those with a high TyG index should be screened for elevated aminotransferase, particularly males aged 35-44 years.
