Abstract
This investigation delves into the daucosterol-lecithin complex (DS-LC) and its effects on lipid homeostasis in hyperlipidemic mice. DS-LC was assessed for complexation efficiency, physicochemical properties (UV, XRD, FTIR, SEM, DSC), and its impact on organ health and serum lipid levels. The results revealed that daucosterol formed an effective complex with lecithin at a 2 : 1 ratio, producing a translucent beige DS-LC with distinctive aggregation. UV-vis spectra confirmed that daucosterol's chromophore structure remained intact in DS-LC, indicating no new compound formation. FTIR analysis identified hydrogen bonding and increased molecular association without changing lecithin peaks, highlighting specific intermolecular interactions. SEM and XRD showed that complexation transformed daucosterol into an irregular form within the lecithin matrix, forming a new phase and demonstrating a strong lecithin-daucosterol interaction. Thermal analysis suggested homogeneous daucosterol distribution due to intermolecular interactions. DS-LC treatment effectively alleviated hyperlipidemia, enhancing liver function and reducing lipid accumulation in epididymal fat. It also significantly decreased total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, and arteriosclerosis index in hyperlipidemic mice, indicating DS-LC's potential as a therapeutic agent for lipid metabolism and related metabolic disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential role of krill oil (KO) supplementation on cardiovascular health are inconsistent in several clinical trials. Therefore, our present meta-analysis aimed to systematically evaluate the impacts of supplementation of KO on cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVDRFs). METHODS Intervention trials assessing KO supplementation on cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes were systematically retrieved for pooling. The primary outcome was lipid profile. Secondary outcomes were consisted by blood pressure, glycemic indices, body composition together with inflammatory markers. We synthesized the effect sizes with 95% confidence intervals and weighted mean difference. To explore the heterogeneity source, we employed meta-regression and subgroup analysis. Quality assessment, publication bias, sensitivity-analysis and the certainty of evidence were also carried out. RESULTS We included 14 trials (18 treatment arms) with 1458 participants. KO supplementation had beneficial effects on total cholesterol (P = 0.01), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.006), and triglycerides (P = 0.0005). However, no effects were found for other CVDRFs, such as blood pressure, glycemic control, body composition as well as inflammatory markers. Subgroup analyses indicated that these notably favorable effects were observed in trials with a parallel design, treatment duration <8 weeks and subjects with baseline body mass index <28 kg/m2. The above findings remained consistent in the sensitivity analysis, without obvious publication bias detected. CONCLUSIONS The current evidence demonstrated that daily KO supplementation may as a candidate for lipid management strategies. In future, studies should pay attention to the relationships of KO intake with the incidence of CVD events or all-cause mortality.

Abstract
It is widely accepted that the gut microbiota plays a significant role in modulating inflammatory and immune responses of their host. In recent years, the host-microbiota interface has gained relevance in understanding the development of many non-communicable chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmunity and neurodegeneration. Importantly, dietary fibre (DF) and associated compounds digested by the microbiota and their resulting metabolites, especially short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), were significantly associated with health beneficial effects, such as via proposed anti-inflammatory mechanisms. However, SCFA metabolic pathways are not fully understood. Major steps include production of SCFA by microbiota, uptake in the colonic epithelium, first-pass effects at the liver, followed by biodistribution and metabolism at the host's cellular level. As dietary patterns do not affect all individuals equally, the host genetic makeup may play a role in the metabolic fate of these metabolites, in addition to other factors that might influence the microbiota, such as age, birth through caesarean, medication intake, alcohol and tobacco consumption, pathogen exposure and physical activity. In this article, we review the metabolic pathways of DF, from intake to the intracellular metabolism of fibre-derived products, and identify possible sources of inter-individual variability related to genetic variation. Such variability may be indicative of the phenotypic flexibility in response to diet, and may be predictive of long-term adaptations to dietary factors, including maladaptation and tissue damage, which may develop into disease in individuals with specific predispositions, thus allowing for a better prediction of potential health effects following personalized intervention with DF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medicinal and aromatical plants (MAPs) have been historically used as traditional remedies in many cultures in Europe and globally. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of MAPs in various health disorders in association to dietary habits and other lifestyle factors among residents in Thrace, NE Greece. METHODS Data were collected through anonymous and voluntary responses to a structured online questionnaire, via convenience (snowball) sampling. RESULTS The 561 responders (age: 39.7 ± 11.6 y) were mostly female (59.7%), with higher education (69.8%), working as state or private employees (55.4%), and having low/medium income (77.1%). Overall, more than 70% were using MAPs in various symptoms and common health disorders, such as chamomile against common cold and the flu. More than 20 different MAPs were being used in smaller frequencies against various conditions. Key contributing factors to the consumption of MAPs were sex (female over male), employment (employed vs. unemployed), education (higher education vs. lower) and higher Body Mass Index (overweight and obese vs. normal), while consumption of fruit, fish, and vegetables was mainly associated with the use of MAPs as common items of diet and in health disorders. CONCLUSIONS The use of MAPs as part of the diet and as traditional remedy is present in the examined population, while particular choices seem to be affected by sociodemographic and lifestyle factors.

Abstract
Dietary risk factors play a fundamental role in the prevention and progression of atherosclerosis and PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease). The impact of nutrition, however, defined as the process of taking in food and using it for growth, metabolism and repair, remains undefined with regard to PAD. This article describes the interplay between nutrition and the development/progression of PAD. We reviewed 688 articles, including key articles, narrative and systematic reviews, meta-analyses and clinical studies. We analyzed the interaction between nutrition and PAD predictors, and subsequently created four descriptive tables to summarize the relationship between PAD, dietary risk factors and outcomes. We comprehensively reviewed the role of well-studied diets (Mediterranean, vegetarian/vegan, low-carbohydrate ketogenic and intermittent fasting diet) and prevalent eating behaviors (emotional and binge eating, night eating and sleeping disorders, anorexia, bulimia, skipping meals, home cooking and fast/ultra-processed food consumption) on the traditional risk factors of PAD. Moreover, we analyzed the interplay between PAD and nutritional status, nutrients, dietary patterns and eating habits. Dietary patterns and eating disorders affect the development and progression of PAD, as well as its disabling complications including major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse limb events (MALE). Nutrition and dietary risk factor modification are important targets to reduce the risk of PAD as well as the subsequent development of MACE and MALE.

Clinical Evaluation of a Novel Tablet Formulation of Traditional Thai Polyherbal Medicine Named Nawametho in Comparison with Its Decoction in the Treatment of Hyperlipidemia. Abstract
In the traditional medical system in Thailand, medicinal plants and polyherbal medicines have been prescribed as lipid-lowering agents, including Nawametho decoction. This polyherbal formulation is described in the Worayokasan scripture. It consists of nine medicinal plants (Aegle marmelos (L.), Carthamus tinctorius L., Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn., Phyllanthus emblica L., Piper longum L., Piper nigrum L., Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb., Terminalia chebula Retz., and Zingiber officinale Roscoe). Apart from its utilization in Thai traditional medicine, there is a lack of evidence supporting its use. This research work thereby aims to formulate and evaluate the tablet containing Nawametho decoction. The feasibility of Nawametho decoction and NawaTab for patients with borderline hyperlipidemia was additionally examined using a prospective, open-label, randomized, parallel-group design. The dry granulation technique was employed to formulate the polyherbal tablets. The tablets were developed using the spray-dried Nawametho decoction as the active ingredient in addition to other excipients. The chosen formulation, the FB (NawaTab), consisted of 385 milligrams of the extract, 12% w/w of a diluent (lactose), 8% w/w of a lubricant (magnesium stearate), 5% w/w of a disintegrant (microcrystalline cellulose), and 5% w/w of an anti-adherent (talcum). Their hardness, friability, and disintegration time were 4.4 ± 0.32 kg, 0.05 ± 0.02%, and 4.60 ± 0.05 min, respectively. Accelerated stability study results revealed that NawaTab was stable for six months at 40°C/75% RH and 25°C/60% RH. Even though taking NawaTabs (500 mg twice daily) for eight consecutive weeks was unable to improve the lipid profile of the patients, the administration of Nawametho decoction (30 mL twice daily) was associated with a significant decrease in serum triglycerides of the patients. The results show that the dry granulation technique is suitable for the formulation of NawaTab based on the tablet evaluation. Furthermore, the triglyceride-lowering effect of Nawametho decoction was reported for the first time.

Abstract
Among age-related diseases, the incidence of cancer increases significantly due to the overlap of some molecular pathways between cancer and aging. While the genetic influence on the human lifespan is estimated to be about 20-25%, epigenetic changes play an important role in modulating individual health status, aging. Aging and age-related conditions are processes that can be modified by both genetic, environmental factors, including dietary habits. Epigenetics is a new discipline has significant potential to be applied for the prevention, management of certain carcinomas and diseases. Epigenetic modifications may play an important role in disease occurrence and pathogenesis. Some nutritional components can be significantly effective in the prevention of breast, skin, esophagus, colorectal, prostate, pancreatic, lung cancers. It contains minerals, vitamins, and some bioactive components (curcumin, indole 3 carbinol, di-indolylmethane, sulforaphane, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, genistein, resveratrol, pterostilbene, apigenin, etc.) regulatory processes. However, compelling evidence suggests that dietary habits can manipulate the aging process and/or its consequences, have health benefits. Aging processes become complex when combined with the relational role of bioactive nutritional components on gene expression. In this review, the relationship between epigenetic processes caused by DNA methylylation, histone modification, non-coding m-RNA, and telomerase activity, the risk of aging and cancer is discussed.

Abstract
Dietary choices may have differing effects on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol or triglyceride levels. The aim of this study was to investigate daily nutrient intake and dietary patterns of individuals with hyper-low-density lipoprotein cholesterolemia (hLDL) and hypertriglyceridemia (hTG) in a large Korean population-based study using propensity score (PS) matching. This study used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Propensity score values for the predicted probability of patients with hLDL or hTG were estimated using logistic regression analysis, with age, sex, body mass index, alcohol consumption, smoking status, physical activity status, hypertension, and diabetes. After PS matching, intake of carbohydrates (%) was significantly lower (p = 0.021), and intake of fats (%) and saturated fatty acids (%) was significantly higher in the hLDL group than in the non-hLDL group (p = 0.025 and p = 0.013, respectively). The percentage of individuals with a high score for the Korean Healthy Eating Index (KHEI) "whole grains" or "saturated fatty acids" components was higher in the non-hLDL group than in the hLDL group (p < 0.05 for both). Dietary sodium/potassium ratio was significantly higher in the hTG than in the non-hTG (p = 0.049). Our results suggest that individualized dietary information and counseling require consideration of a person's specific lipid levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies indicate that onion supplementation may be effective in the treatment of dyslipidemia; however, the results remain controversial. This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate potential benefits of onion on lipid profile. METHODS Up to 12 October 2020, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched for randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of onion on lipid profile. Mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Meta-analysis was conducted using the fixed-effects model. RESULTS Ten trials with 446 participants in total were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled findings of 10 studies suggested that onion supplementation significantly improved high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) (MD: 2.29 mg/dl; 95% CI: 0.87, 3.72; I 2 = 0%) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) (MD: -6.64 mg/dl; 95% CI: -10.91, -2.36; I 2 = 32%),while onion supplementation did not significantly lower triglycerides (TG) (MD: -6.55 mg/dl; 95% CI: -15.64, 2.53; I 2 = 45%). Analysis of nine trials showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol (TC) (MD: -5.39 mg/dl; 95% CI: -10.68, -0.09; I 2 = 49%) in patients with onion supplementation compared to the control group. CONCLUSION In summary, supplementation of onion was beneficial to control dyslipidemia, including improving levels of HDL, LDL, and TC, but could not reduce TG level. The therapeutic benefits of onion for dyslipidemia need to be treated with caution considering that some of the results are not robust.

Abstract
Impaired lipid profile is defined as abnormal plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. This disease state is associated with the development and progression of various disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and acute myocardial infarction. Globally, all of these disorders are related to a significant rate of death. Therefore, finding a suitable approach for the prevention and treatment of lipid profile-related disorders is in the spotlight. Recently, herbal therapy has been considered a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of hyperlipidemia or its related disorders due to its safety and efficacy. Hereby, we address the potential benefits of some of these herbal compounds on different aspects of lipid profile and its abnormalities with a special focus on their underlying mechanisms. Using herbal products, such as teas and mushrooms, or their derivatives, Rosmarinus officinalis Linn, Curcuma longa, Green tea, Lippia triphylla, Lippia citriodora, Plantago asiatica L, Vine tea, and Grifola frondosa have been proved to exert several therapeutic impacts on lipid profile and its related disorders, and we would provide a brief review on them in this literature.

Abstract
Epidemiological and clinical studies support the association between nutrition and development or progression of different malignancies such as colon, breast, and prostate cancer, defining these tumors as diet-associated cancer. The Mediterranean diet shows inverse associations with metabolic diseases, cardiovascular pathologies and various types of cancer. Many bioactive nutrients of the Mediterranean diet have been identified as factors protective against these types of pathologies. The epigenome has been identified as the primary goal of modulations in gene expression related to these molecular nutrients. In fact, they can modify the epigenome and can be incorporated into the 'epigenetic diet', which translates into a diet regimen that can be used therapeutically for health or preventative purposes. Most epigenetic changes are influenced by lifestyle and nutrition. Epigenetic therapy is a new area for the development of nutraceuticals whose absence of toxicity can represent a valid asset in cancer prevention strategies. Recent advances in understanding the mechanisms of nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics and nutraceuticals have led to the identification of superfoods capable of favorably conditioning gene expression. In this review, we highlight the importance of nutraceuticals present in the Mediterranean diet as epigenetic modifiers both in the mechanisms of tumor onset and as protective agents.

Abstract
We studied the lipid-regulating effect and molecular mechanism of the medical components of Alisma orientalis: alisol A, alisol B, 23-acetyl alisol C (23C) and the 3 (alisol A): 1(alisol B):1(23C) and 2(alisol A):2(alisol B):1(23C) mixtures designed based on the ratio of them in Alisma orientalis from Fujian, Guangxi Province, China. The animal experiment and network pharmacology showed that ACAT was one of its lipid-regulating targets and alisols may reduce the level of TC by inhibiting ACAT activity. The molecular simulation and homologous modeling results suggested that the binding of alisol mixtures with ACAT was stronger than that of monomers because alisol monomers acted on different active regions of ACAT resulting in the superposition effect and caused the synergistic effect. The lipid-regulating effect of Fujian mixture was stronger than that of Guangxi mixture showing that 3:1:1 was a better ratio. The N-terminal lipid-regulating activity of ACAT was stronger than that of transmembrane domain 1.
