Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the relationship between eHealth literacy and attitudes towards internet/computer (I/C) technology use in healthcare. METHODS Analysis of data from 16 cross-sectional studies, involving literature search from databases like PubMed, EBSCO, JMIR, up to April 2023. Studies were selected based on a quantitative cross-sectional design, with no restrictions on participant characteristics. RESULTS A significant positive correlation (0.36; 95% CI 0.37-0.38, p < 0.05) was found between eHealth literacy and positive attitudes towards I/C technology use. Age and regional differences, especially in participants over 50 and from Asian and Middle Eastern countries, were notable. CONCLUSION Lower eHealth literacy is associated with more negative attitudes towards I/C technology in healthcare. This trend is consistent across diverse demographics and regions.

Abstract
AIM To explore nurses' experiences and perspectives about evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation in the healthcare context. DESIGN A qualitative descriptive study design using focus group discussions (FGDs). METHOD Sixty-four nurses who purposefully selected and worked at various healthcare organizations in Bisha Governorate, Saudi Arabia, were included. Eight FGDs were used to obtain data using open-ended questions. The collected data underwent inductive qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Two main categories were extracted: experiences and perspectives towards EBP. The experiences category emerged into four sub-categories: familiarity with concepts and benefits, steps, dissemination sources of EBP and sources of EBP knowledge, while perspectives towards the EBP category included four sub-categories: application of EBP in clinical practice, barriers, facilitators and EBP application methods. The participants experienced being in a non-supportive and non-encouraging atmosphere which results from a lack of organizational commitment to EBP implementation and illuminates the complexities involved in the integration process. CONCLUSION The nurses' experience with EBP indicated that there was limited support for the implementation of this approach. Furthermore, they experienced varying barriers to EBP implementation. They viewed EBP as a complex technique as they lacked knowledge and skills related to the formulation of research questions, and retrieving, applying and disseminating of EBP in clinical practice decision-making. That is due to barriers pertinent to the individual, organizational and patient factors. The key to successfully implementing an EBP in nursing practice is to promote professional development, comprehensive and continuous training, a culture of change, organizational support and motivation. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Through the construction and provision of ongoing educational interventions and mentoring programmes about EBP, healthcare organizations and nursing leadership may develop a comprehensive strategy to encourage staff nurses' participation in the EBP process. This is to enhance nurses' experiences and perspectives towards the EBP approach and overcome the barriers to effective implementation. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION TO THIS STUDY Patients or the general public were not involved in the design, analysis or interpretation of the data in this study.

Abstract
With the increasing use of technology in nursing, how nurses perform practice care has changed, inevitably leading to ethical concerns that differ from original ethical norms in nursing. Studies have focused on ethical issues in health informatics from clinicians' or patients' perspectives, while nurses' perspective is needed. This paper conducts a theoretical study on ethical predicaments that arise in nursing informatics from nurses' perspectives. Why and how these predicaments emerge are elaborated. Also, this paper offers countermeasures in realistic contexts from technique, education, and leadership aspects. Collaborations between governments, administrators, educators, technicians, and nurses are needed to step out of these predicaments.

Abstract
The act of searching and retrieving evidence falls under the second step of the EBP process-tracking down the best evidence. The purpose of this study is to understand the competencies of clinicians accessing electronic databases to search for evidence on pain management using a mixed methods approach. Thirty-seven healthcare professionals (14 occupational therapists, 13 physical therapists, 8 nurses, and 2 psychologists) who are actively involved in pain management were included. This study involved two parts (a qualitative and a quantitative part) that ran in parallel. Participants were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide (qualitative data); data were transcribed verbatim. During the interview, participants were evaluated in comparison to a set of pre-determined practice competencies using a chart-stimulated recall (CSR) technique (quantitative data). CSR was scored on a 7-point Likert scale. Coding was completed by two raters; themes across each of the competencies were integrated by three raters. Seven themes evolved out of the qualitative responses to these competencies: formulating a research question, sources of evidence accessed, search strategy, refining the yield, barriers and facilitators, clinical decision making, and knowledge and awareness about appraising the quality of evidence. The qualitative results informed an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses in the competencies evaluated. In conclusion, using a mixed methods approach, we found that clinicians were performing well with their basic literature review skills, but when it came to advanced skills like using Boolean operators, critical appraisal and finding levels of evidence they seem to require more training.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The internet is increasingly being used as a source of medicine-related information. People want information to facilitate decision-making and self-management, and they tend to prefer the internet for ease of access. However, it is widely acknowledged that the quality of web-based information varies. Poor interpretation of medicine information can lead to anxiety and poor adherence to drug therapy. It is therefore important to understand how people search, select, and trust medicine information. OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to establish the extent of internet use for seeking medicine information among Norwegian pharmacy customers, analyze factors associated with internet use, and investigate the level of trust in different sources and websites. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of pharmacy customers recruited from all but one community pharmacy in Tromsø, a medium size municipality in Norway (77,000 inhabitants). Persons (aged ≥16 years) able to complete a questionnaire in Norwegian were asked to participate in the study. The recruitment took place in September and October 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social media was also used to recruit medicine users. RESULTS A total of 303 respondents reported which sources they used to obtain information about their medicines (both prescription and over the counter) and to what extent they trusted these sources. A total of 125 (41.3%) respondents used the internet for medicine information, and the only factor associated with internet use was age. The odds of using the internet declined by 5% per year of age (odds ratio 0.95, 95% CI 0.94-0.97; P=.048). We found no association between internet use and gender, level of education, or regular medicine use. The main purpose reported for using the internet was to obtain information about side effects. Other main sources of medicine information were physicians (n=191, 63%), pharmacy personnel (n=142, 47%), and medication package leaflets (n=124, 42%), while 36 (12%) respondents did not obtain medicine information from any sources. Note that 272 (91%) respondents trusted health professionals as a source of medicine information, whereas 58 (46%) respondents who used the internet trusted the information they found on the internet. The most reliable websites were the national health portals and other official health information sites. CONCLUSIONS Norwegian pharmacy customers use the internet as a source of medicine information, but most still obtain medicine information from health professionals and packet leaflets. People are aware of the potential for misinformation on websites, and they mainly trust high-quality sites run by health authorities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In primary healthcare, health information technology has the potential to facilitate the delivery of healthcare services by improving quality of care, efficiency and patient safety. However, little is known about the uptake and technology acceptance among primary healthcare nurses. AIM The aim of this study was to describe health information technology acceptance and use among primary healthcare nurses. SETTING Primary healthcare centres in the Western Cape. METHODS A quantitative descriptive survey was conducted with a sample of 160 nurses working in primary healthcare for more than 6 months, using a self-administered questionnaire based on the technology acceptance model constructs. Eighteen primary healthcare centres were randomly selected with a sample of 160 using nonprobability purposive sampling. RESULTS Ninety-three (58.1%) respondents completed the survey. Three-quarters of the respondents reported positive attitudes, positive perceptions of usefulness and ease of use towards the use of health information technology. Barriers of access and training were reported by 75%, with around half the respondents reporting poor computer and information accessing skills. Health information technology use was varied, with high ratings for seeking and using and low ratings of ability to use health information technology for patient administration and management. Health information technology use was predicted by perceptions of ease of use. CONCLUSION This research presents a mixed picture of acceptance of technology among primary healthcare nurses and highlights the lack of access to computers and Internet in these settings. CONTRIBUTION This study contributes to the field of technology acceptance among primary healthcare nurses.

Abstract
Critical care nurses manage complex patient care interventions under dynamic, time-sensitive and constrained conditions, yet clinical decision support systems for nurses are limited compared with advanced practice healthcare providers. In this work, we study and analyze nurses' information-seeking behaviors to inform the development of a clinical decision support system that supports nurses. Nurses from an urban midwestern hospital were recruited to complete an online survey containing eight open-ended questions about resource utilization for various nursing tasks and open space for additional insights. Frequencies and percentages were calculated for resource type, bivariate analyses using Pearson's χ2 test were conducted for differences in resources utilization by years of experience, and content analysis of free text was completed. Forty-five nurses (response rate, 19.6%) identified 38 unique resources, which we organized into a resource taxonomy. Institutional applications were the most common type of resource used (35.6% of all responses) but accounted for only 15.4% of respondents' "go-to resources," suggesting potential areas for improvement. Our findings highlight that knowing where to look for information, the existence of comprehensive information, and fast and easy retrieval of information are key resource seeking attributes that must be considered when designing a clinical decision support system.

Abstract
Background Persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) are confronted by an overwhelming amount of online health information, which can be valuable but also vary in quality and aim. Therefore, it is of great importance for developers and providers of eHealth information to understand its impact on the users. The eHealth Impact Questionnaire (eHIQ) has been developed in the United Kingdom to measure the potential effects of health and experimental information websites. This contains user’s general attitudes towards using the internet to gain health information and attitudes towards a specific health related website. The self-complete questionnaire is divided into two independently administered and scored parts: the 11-item eHIQ part 1 and the 26-item eHIQ part 2. This study aimed to validate the psychometric properties of the German version of the eHealth Impact Questionnaire (eHIQ-G). Methods 162 people with multiple sclerosis browsed one of two possible websites containing information on MS and completed an online survey. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha and structural validity by Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Construct validity was examined by assessing correlations with the reference instruments eHealth Literacy Questionnaire and the General Self-Efficacy Scale measuring related, but dissimilar constructs. Moreover, we investigated the mean difference of the eHIQ-G score between the two websites. Data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software. Results The eHIQ-G subscales showed high internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha from 0.833 to 0.885. The 2-factor model of eHIQ part 1 achieved acceptable levels of goodness-of-fit indices, whereas the fit for the 3-factor model of eHIQ part 2 was poor and likewise for the alternative modified models. The correlations with the reference instruments were 0.08–0.62 and as expected. Older age was related with lower eHIQ part 1 score, whereas no significant effect was found for education on eHIQ part 1. Although not significant, the website ‘AMSEL’ reached higher mean scores on eHIQ part 2. Conclusions The eHIQ-G has good internal consistency, and sufficient structural and construct validity. This instrument will facilitate the measurement of the potential impact of eHealth tools. Abstract
eHealth interventions use information technology to provide attention to patients with chronic cardiovascular conditions, thereby supporting their self-management abilities. OBJECTIVE Identify barriers and aids to the implementation of eHealth interventions in people with chronic cardiovascular conditions from the perspectives of users, health professionals and institutions. METHOD An integrative database review of WoS, Scopus, PubMed and Scielo of publications between 2016 and 2020 reporting eHealth interventions in people with chronic cardiovascular diseases. Keywords used were eHealth and chronic disease. Following inclusion and exclusion criteria application, 14 articles were identified. RESULTS Barriers and aids were identified from the viewpoints of users, health professionals and health institutions. Some notable barriers include users' age and low technological literacy, perceived depersonalization in attention, limitations in technology access and usability, and associated costs. Aids included digital education and support from significant others. CONCLUSIONS eHealth interventions are an alternative with wide potentiality for chronic disease management; however, their implementation must be actively managed.

Abstract
Objectives: One of the major duties of nurses is proper medication administration while maintaining patient safety, which requires sufficient knowledge and practice. Any gaps in knowledge used by nurses can lead to irreversible injury or death of the patient. This study is aimed to determine and compare the pharmacology knowledge and performance of nurses and nursing students in using the information resources in pediatrics wards. Method: This descriptive observational study was performed on 300 nurses and nursing students. Sources of knowledge and performance of nurses and nursing students were analyzed with researcher-made tools to determine their pharmaceutical knowledge, sources of knowledge, and attitudes by independent t-test, chi-square, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson, and Spearman tests. Result: Three hundred questionnaires were examined. The clinical experience of nurses and students was their most important source of information in drug challenges for 33.7% of the participants. About 24.6% of nurses obtained the required information from specialized books on pediatric medicine. About 17.1% of the participants attained their knowledge from multiple sources (e.g. various available sources such as the Internet, pharmacy books, software, and their experiences and colleagues), while electronic sources and the Internet were the sources of knowledge for 15.5% and 7.7% of the nurses, respectively. Concerning nursing students, 6.3% used books, 41.7% considered colleagues (clinical experiences), 20.8% employed electronic resources, 22.8% used the Internet, and 9.1% relied on multiple sources. There were significant differences in the knowledge and performance of the nurses based on their source of pharmacological knowledge (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Most of the resources used in the hospital are not up-to-date and evidence-base, and the majority of nurses tend to rely on their clinical experience or their collegues information for medication administration rather than reading books or searching for up-to-date approaches and information. Nursing students also trust nurses’ clinical experiences more than other sources provided for them including books and Internet. Some action should be taken by the managers for boosting the nurses’ tendency for using up-to-date information resources.

Abstract
Although patient rights are an important issue, this remains an understudied research area. Patients are unaware of their rights, lacking control of health care treatments they might deserve. This can contribute to sustaining inequality as well as failure in achieving welfare policy goals. Drawing on channel complementarity theory, the current study explored patients’ awareness toward their rights, and the credibility of information sources related to patient rights. In a web-based survey, 994 Israeli participants, suffering from chronic illness and using health services, were recruited. To examine the study’s theoretical framework and relationships among the constructs and test the hypotheses, a path analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling. The research model depicts direct and indirect relationships between constructs, and the relevant coefficients. The results show a direct and positive interaction between information credibility and patient rights awareness (β = 0.10, p = 0.019). Information credibility partially mediates the relationship between public service information sources and patient rights awareness (bootstrap with 95% CI: 0.01–0.07; p = 0.015). The mass media information sources construct is directly and positively related to information credibility (β = 0.36, p = 0.000). Age was found as a moderator, indicating that information credibility is a factor only at lower ages. Therefore, patient rights should be systematically and reliably accessible in order to raise the awareness and trust of chronic patients regarding information about patient rights. Using planned health communication campaigns mainly via public service sources that are perceived as trustworthy can help contribute to approach patients more effectively and provide them with accessible and detailed information about their rights.

Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to understand the dissemination of information relating to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its impact on nursing care in the early phase of transmission. BACKGROUND COVID-19 has spread globally, causing an unprecedentedly large number of casualties. Nurses face challenges in dealing with patients with COVID-19 with limited information about the pathogen. DESIGN This qualitative study followed the COREQ guidelines. METHODS Fifteen nurses were recruited from two university hospitals in South Korea using a snowballing technique for in-depth interviews in May 2020. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Content analysis was performed on the interview data. RESULTS Two themes emerged: access to COVID-19 information and the impact of information on nursing care. The categories of access to COVID-19 information were lack of nursing-specific information, limited information cascading from top management and confusion due to varying points of view. The categories of the impact of information on nursing care were unprepared management that aggravates exhaustion, lack of personal protective equipment that creates anxiety and being a nurse leader to overcome the pandemic. CONCLUSION During a pandemic of emerging infectious diseases, nurses should have access to up-to-date information tailored to their working environment. Human resources, material resources and systematic support are needed for nurses who provide care for patients with an infectious disease. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE A collaborative interprofessional education system for emerging infectious diseases is needed for effective communication and consistent care during a pandemic. Nurse leaders should be prepared to deliver profession-specific information for standardised care and respond to nursing management needs by using resources and tailoring the workforce.
