Abstract
[Purpose] This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between the Life-Space Assessment measure, which conceptualizes physical activity in terms of life-space, and indicators of empowerment, and physical function, in stable patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. [Participants and Methods] This was a cross-sectional study. The participants were 25 stable outpatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (22 males, mean age 75.6 ± 6.1 years). Measurements included the Life-Space Assessment; the Empowerment Scale for the Elderly; respiratory function; grip strength; weight-adjusted knee extension strength; and a six-minute walk test. Pearson's correlation coefficient and a multivariate analysis were used to examine the relationship between the Life-Space Assessment and each indicator, with the significance level set at 5%. [Results] The Life-Space Assessment score (83.4 ± 23.7 points) correlated with the percentage forced vital capacity and the six-minute walk distance. However, the Life-Space Assessment demonstrated no association with the Empowerment Scale for the Elderly (38.3 ± 7.0 points). [Conclusion]The results of this study suggest that physical function correlates with scores on the Life-Space Assessment in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital health technologies (DHTs) play a crucial role in symptom management, particularly in palliative care, by providing patients with accessible tools to monitor and manage their symptoms effectively. The aim of this systematic review was to examine and synthesise the scientific literature on DHTs for symptom management in palliative oncology care. METHODS A systematic review was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses from 2 June to 20 June 2024. Databases including Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, PubMed and the Cochrane Library were searched. Data were extracted using a standardised form based on the PICOTT (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Type and Technology) framework. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation (AGREE) II tool during the selection process. RESULTS The systematic review included seven articles describing six DHTs from five countries: the UK, Kenya, Tanzania, the Netherlands and the USA. The findings of this comprehensive literature review elucidate four principal themes: the specific types of DHTs used for symptom management in palliative cancer care, their roles and advantages, as well as the factors that limit or promote their adoption by patients and healthcare professionals. CONCLUSION The findings of this review give valuable insights into the ongoing discourse on integrating digital health solutions into palliative care practices, highlighting its potential role in enhancing symptom management within palliative cancer care and showcasing its possible benefits while also identifying key factors influencing their adoption among patients and healthcare professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Societal measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 (eg, lockdown and contact restrictions) have been associated with decreased health and well-being. A multitude of prepandemic studies identified the beneficial effects of physical exercise on both physical and mental health. OBJECTIVE We report on the feasibility of a remote physical exercise intervention and its stress-buffering potential in 2 untrained cohorts: a pre-COVID-19 cohort that completed the intervention in 2019 and a lockdown cohort that started the intervention shortly before pandemic-related restrictions were implemented. METHODS In a randomized controlled trial, participants were assigned to either an intervention group (IG; pre-COVID-19 cohort: n=7 and lockdown cohort: n=9) or a control group (CG; pre-COVID-19 cohort: n=6 and lockdown cohort: n=6). IG participants received weekly individualized training recommendations delivered via web-based support. The intervention period was initially planned for 8 weeks, which was adhered to in the pre-COVID-19 cohort (mean 8.3, SD 0.5 weeks) but was extended to an average of 17.7 (SD 2.0) weeks in the lockdown cohort. Participants' health parameters were assessed before and after the intervention: aerobic capacity was measured as peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) via cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Depressive symptoms were scored via the depression subscale of the Brief Symptom Inventory-18. RESULTS Dropout rates were low in both cohorts in the IG (pre-COVID-19 cohort: n=0, 0% and lockdown cohort: n=2, 16.7%) and the CG (pre-COVID-19 cohort: n=0, 0% and lockdown cohort: n=2, 20%). The mean adherence to the training sessions of the IG for both cohorts was 84% (pre-COVID-19 cohort: SD 5.5% and lockdown cohort: SD 11.6%). Aligned rank transform ANOVAs in the lockdown cohort indicated deterioration of VO2peak and depressive symptoms from before to after the intervention in the CG but no longitudinal changes in the IG. Analyses in the pre-COVID-19 cohort revealed significant increases in VO2peak for the IG compared to the CG (P=.04) but no intervention effects on depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS With low dropout rates and high adherence, the remote intervention was feasible for healthy adults under regular conditions and in the face of pandemic-related stressors. Moreover, our results hint at a stress-buffering effect as well as a buffering of a lockdown-induced deconditioning of remote physical exercise interventions in the pandemic scenario, which can be used in future studies to overcome equally stressful periods of life. However, due to limited statistical power, these findings should be replicated in similar scenarios. Abstract
Chat-based cancer counseling in Switzerland: A reflexive thematic analysis of chat protocols focused on cancer survivors' needs Abstract: Background: The number of people diagnosed with cancer and continue to live as cancer survivors is growing. Together with their relatives, they have information and counseling needs during the illness trajectory. With Cancerline, the Swiss Cancer League offers a chat-based counseling service for cancer survivors. Research question/objective: For the first time, the qualitative study investigated which needs cancer survivors express in Cancerline to gain insights for the further development and quality assurance of chat-based cancer counseling. Methods: Based on the principles of Interpretive Description, 669 chat counseling transcripts were analyzed using Braun et al. (2018) reflexive thematic analysis in an iterative process in six analysis steps. Results: Cancer survivorship needs in Cancerline are multifaceted, and we have identified nine themes: need anonymous chat to communicate, get informed, weigh ethical dilemmas and make decisions, seek meaning and hope, find ways to manage burdensome emotions, resolve social conflict and not burden others, feel understood and give space to own needs, clarify role as significant other acting correctly and seeking security. Conclusions: Chat-based counseling may contribute to supporting cancer survivors with information needs about cancer in a flexible way that is close to everyday life. Professionals can sensitize survivors to chat-based counseling, which makes low-threshold counseling accessible.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Behavior change support systems (BCSSs) have the potential to help people maintain healthy lifestyles and aid in the self-management of coronary heart disease (CHD). The Persuasive Systems Design (PSD) model is a framework for designing and evaluating systems designed to support lifestyle modifications and health behavior change using information and communication technology. However, evidence for the underlying design principles behind BCSSs for CHD has not been extensively reported in the literature. OBJECTIVE This scoping review aims to identify existing health BCSSs for CHD, report the characteristics of these systems, and describe the persuasion context and persuasive design principles of these systems based on the PSD framework. METHODS Using the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines, 3 digital databases (Scopus, Web of Science, and MEDLINE) were searched between 2010 to 2022. The major inclusion criteria for studies were in accordance with the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome) approach. RESULTS Searches conducted in the databases identified 1195 papers, among which 30 were identified as eligible for the review. The most interesting characteristics of the BCSSs were the predominant use of primary task support principles, followed by dialogue support and credibility support and the sparing use of social support principles. Theories of behavior change such as the Social Cognitive Theory and Self-Efficacy Theory were used often to underpin these systems. However, significant trends in the use of persuasive system features on par with behavior change theories could not be established from the reviewed studies. This points to the fact that there is still no theoretical consensus on how best to design interventions to promote behavior change in patients with CHD. CONCLUSIONS Our results highlight key software features for designing BCSSs for the prevention and management of CHD. We encourage designers of behavior change interventions to evaluate the techniques that contributed to the success of the intervention. Future research should focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions, persuasive design principles, and behavior change theories using research methodologies such as meta-analysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine work participation, social roles, and empowerment of QFS patients ≥10-year after infection. METHODS QFS patients ≥10-year after acute infection, who were of working age, participated in a cross-sectional survey study. Work participation, fulfilment of social roles, and empowerment outcomes were studied for the total population, as well as for subgroups based on employment type and current work status. Associations between empowerment, work and social roles were examined. RESULTS 291 participants were included. Of the 250 participants who had paid work before Q-fever, 80.4% stopped working or worked less hours due to QFS. For each social role, more than half of the participants (56.6-87.8%) spent less time on the role compared to before Q-fever. The median empowerment score was 41.0 (IQR: 37.0-44.0) out of 60. A higher empowerment score was significantly associated with lower odds of performing all social roles less due to QFS (OR = 0.871-0.933; p<0.001-0.026), except for parenting and informal care provision (p = 0.070-0.460). No associations were found between empowerment and current work status. CONCLUSION Work participation and fulfilment of social roles is generally low in QFS patients. Many of the participants stopped working or are working less hours due to QFS, and most spent less time on social roles compared to before Q-fever. Minor variation was seen in total empowerment scores of participants; however, these slight differences were associated with the fulfilment of social roles, but not work participation. This new insight should be further explored in future studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In oncohematology, both the development of the disease and the side effects of antineoplastic treatment often take a toll on patients' physical and nutritional well-being. In this era of digital transformation, we launched a pioneering project for oncohematologic patients to promote adherence to a healthy lifestyle and improve their physical and nutritional well-being. We aim to achieve this goal by involving doctors and nutritionists through the Nootric app. OBJECTIVE This study aims to assess the impact of the use of eHealth tools to facilitate nutrition and well-being in oncohematologic patients. We also aim to determine the usefulness of physical-nutritional management in improving tolerance to chemotherapy treatments within routine clinical practice. METHODS We designed a descriptive, observational, longitudinal, prospective cohort pilot study that included a total of 22 patients from March to May 2022 in the Vinalopó University Hospital. The inclusion criteria were adults over 18 years of age diagnosed with oncohematological pathology in active chemotherapy treatment. An action plan was created to generate alerts between the doctor and the nutritionist. In the beginning, the patients were trained to use the app and received education highlighting the importance of nutrition and physical exercise. Sociodemographic, clinical-biological-analytical (eg, malnutrition index), health care impact, usability, and patient adherence data were collected. Tolerance to chemotherapy treatment and its health care impact were evaluated. RESULTS We included 22 patients, 11 (50%) female and 11 (50%) male, ranging between 42 and 84 years of age. Among them, 13 (59%) were adherents to the program. The most frequent diseases were lymphoproliferative syndromes (13/22, 59%) and multiple myeloma (4/22, 18%). Moreover, 15 (68%) out of 22 patients received immunochemotherapy, while 7 (32%) out of 22 patients received biological treatment. No worsening of clinical-biological parameters was observed. Excluding dropouts and abandonments (n=9/22, 41%), the adherence rate was 81%, established by calculating the arithmetic mean of the adherence rates of 13 patients. No admission was observed due to gastrointestinal toxicity or discontinuation of treatment related to alterations in physical and nutritional well-being. In addition, only 5.5% of unscheduled consultations were increased due to incidents in well-being, mostly telematic (n=6/103 consultation are unscheduled). Additionally, 92% of patients reported an improvement in their nutritional habits (n=12/13), and up to 45% required adjustment of medical supportive treatment (n=5/11). There were no cases of grade 3 or greater gastrointestinal toxicity. All of this reflects improved tolerance to treatments. Patients reported a satisfaction score of 4.3 out of 5, while professionals rated their satisfaction at 4.8 out of 5. CONCLUSIONS We demonstrated the usefulness of integrating new technologies through a multidisciplinary approach. The Nootric app facilitated collaboration among the medical team, nutritionists, and patients. It enabled us to detect health issues related to physical-nutritional well-being, anticipate major complications, and mitigate potentially avoidable risks. Consequently, there was a decrease in unscheduled visits and admissions related to this condition.

Abstract
(1) Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis explores the effectiveness of telerehabilitation in patients suffering from chronic neck pain, specifically on pain and disability. The research delves into an area of growing significance within the realm of healthcare, aiming to understand the impact of digital interventions on the rehabilitation process for individuals with prolonged neck pain. (2) Methods: The comprehensive review encompasses a wide array of studies evaluating the collective outcomes of numerous trials focused on telerehabilitation strategies. In this systematic review, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to identify studies on telerehabilitation's impact on pain. (3) Results: Eight studies met the inclusion criteria. Using the Downs and Black quality assessment, three studies were classified as good and five as fair. The authors identify specific modalities within telerehabilitation, such as remote exercise programs and virtual consultations, that contribute significantly to positive patient outcomes. Meta-analysis indicated a significant overall effect of telerehabilitation on pain reduction (MD = -1.27; 95% CI = -2.06; -0.47; p = 0.002). These findings support telerehabilitation's efficacy in pain management. (4) Conclusions: The synthesis of evidence presented in this systematic review and meta-analysis underscores the potential of telerehabilitation as an effective and accessible means of managing chronic neck pain, offering valuable insights for both healthcare practitioners and policymakers in advancing patient-centered care.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to co-design Healthy Living after Cancer Online (HLaC Online), an online intervention supporting cancer survivors to set and meet their healthy living goals. METHODS Adapted from an initial telephone-delivered Healthy Living after Cancer program, wireframes (PDF black and white mock-ups) of the proposed online program were presented in a series of focus groups and interviews to our stakeholder group, which consisted of cancer survivors, oncology healthcare professionals, and representatives from cancer support organisations. Stakeholders were prompted for feedback on the wireframe and given end-user scenarios to encourage deeper engagement with the co-design process. Transcriptions underwent thematic analysis to determine which features of the program needed change or expansion. RESULTS 27 participants took part in one of 8 focus groups or 10 interviews. Five themes were identified relating to (a) website design elements, (b) promoting and maintaining long-term engagement, (c) relatability and relevance, (d) navigating professional support, and (e) family and peer support. Recommended changes, such as simple activities and guidance videos, were integrated into the HLaC Online prototype. CONCLUSIONS Involving end-users in the co-design process ensured the intervention's relevance and specificity to the needs of cancer survivors. Next steps include feasibility testing the prototype, prior to commencing a national randomised control trial of HLaC Online. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS HLaC Online aims to support cancer survivors to improve their quality of life by making healthy lifestyle changes in their physical activity, healthy eating, weight management, mental health, and fatigue management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inadequate working conditions and sedentary work can exert a negative impact on workers' health and wellbeing, leading to musculoskeletal disorders and disability. Mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) have high potential for the self-management of workers' health. OBJECTIVE To identify mHealth apps aimed at promoting workers' health and wellbeing available in Brazilian online stores and assess these apps in terms of engagement, functionality, aesthetics and information quality. METHODS A systematic search for apps was conducted in the Brazilian online App Store and Play Store in December 2022. Only smartphone apps in Brazilian Portuguese directed at workers' health were assessed. The appraisal of the quality of the applications was performed using the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS). RESULTS Among the 3449 mHealth apps found, ten were eligible for inclusion. The mean overall score was 3.15 ± 0.91 on a scale of 1-5. The lowest score was found for the "credibility" item. Exercises and breaks were the most frequent strategies. Most apps provided low-quality information from questionable sources and therefore received a mean score of 2.1 ± 1.5 on the MARS information subscale. CONCLUSION Ten relevant mHealth apps were eligible for inclusion. The mHealth apps for the promotion of workers' health and wellbeing currently available in Brazil exhibited moderate quality and limited functionality.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Although there is strong evidence of the positive effects of physical exercise on health, adherence to face-to-face exercise programs in the adult population is low, identifying several barriers that hinder their practice. There is research that demonstrates the viability of physical exercise programs with the use of Mobile Health in Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) mode, which contributes to overcoming many reported barriers. To synthesize the methodological characteristics and health effects of physical exercise programs based on mobile health in EMA modality in adults in developing countries. Materials and Methods: This systematic review was conducted according to guidelines established by the PRISMA statement in APA PsycArticles and CINAHL databases by EBSCOhost, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science for articles published between 2008 and March 2024. Results: Telephone counseling on clinical-behavioral factors is believed to reduce morbidity and mortality in developed countries, but this aspect is not explored in developing countries. We included nine randomized controlled trials with a total of 4394 male and female participants aged 18 to 60 years. The interventions were mainly carried out by text messages, lasting between 20 to 80 min per session, 3 to 5 days per week, and most were carried out over 12 months. The interventions on the variables of physical activity, nutrition, and medical assessments showed significant effects, and variables such as quality of life and anthropometric measurements were not significant in most studies. Conclusions: This systematic review included studies from different developing countries, the most common diseases being diabetes, overweight, obesity, and hypertension. All the studies used mobile devices as the technology, finding a profile of the adults studied, as well as the characteristics of exercise programs based on mobile health in EMA modality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increasing prevalence of DH applications has outpaced research and practice in digital health (DH) evaluations. Patient experience (PEx) was reported as one of the challenges facing the health system by the World Health Organization. To generate evidence on DH and promote the appropriate integration and use of technologies, a standard evaluation of PEx in DH is required. OBJECTIVE This study aims to systematically identify evaluation timing considerations (ie, when to measure), evaluation indicators (ie, what to measure), and evaluation approaches (ie, how to measure) with regard to digital PEx. The overall aim of this study is to generate an evaluation guide for further improving digital PEx evaluation. METHODS This is a 2-phase study parallel to our previous study. In phase 1, literature reviews related to PEx in DH were systematically searched from Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. Two independent raters conducted 2 rounds of paper screening, including title and abstract screening and full-text screening, and assessed the interrater reliability for 20% (round 1: 23/115 and round 2: 12/58) random samples using the Fleiss-Cohen coefficient (round 1: k1=0.88 and round 2: k2=0.80). When reaching interrater reliability (k>0.60), TW conducted the rest of the screening process, leaving any uncertainties for group discussions. Overall, 38% (45/119) of the articles were considered eligible for further thematic analysis. In phase 2, to check if there were any meaningful novel insights that would change our conclusions, we performed an updated literature search in which we collected 294 newly published reviews, of which 102 (34.7%) were identified as eligible articles. We considered them to have no important changes to our original results on the research objectives. Therefore, they were not integrated into the synthesis of this review and were used as supplementary materials. RESULTS Our review highlights 5 typical evaluation objectives that serve 5 stakeholder groups separately. We identified a set of key evaluation timing considerations and classified them into 3 categories: intervention maturity stages, timing of the evaluation, and timing of data collection. Information on evaluation indicators of digital PEx was identified and summarized into 3 categories (intervention outputs, patient outcomes, and health care system impact), 9 themes, and 22 subthemes. A set of evaluation theories, common study designs, data collection methods and instruments, and data analysis approaches was captured, which can be used or adapted to evaluate digital PEx. CONCLUSIONS Our findings enabled us to generate an evaluation guide to help DH intervention researchers, designers, developers, and program evaluators evaluate digital PEx. Finally, we propose 6 directions for encouraging further digital PEx evaluation research and practice to address the challenge of poor PEx.

Abstract
Objective To examine the effects of online health information seeking (OHIS) behavior on five health behaviors (regular physical activity, less sedentary, calorie checking, no alcohol consumption, and no smoking) among adult cancer survivors in the United States. Methods A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with adult cancer survivors (≥18 years old) from Cycles 2, 3, and 4 of the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). The respondents self-reported OHIS, and the data on the five health behaviors were pooled to perform descriptive and multivariable logistic regression analyses using Stata 17.0. Results Of the 1245 adult cancer survivors, approximately 74% reported OHIS behavior for themselves within the previous year of the survey. We found that OHIS was significantly and positively associated with the level of physical activity (odds ratio [OR] = 1.53, p = .002) and calorie checking (OR = 1.64, p = .001), but not with sedentary behavior, smoking, and alcohol consumption after adjusting for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, income, body mass index (BMI), marital status, depression, and general health. Conclusions Findings from this study suggest that most cancer survivors used various forms of digital tools and platforms to seek health information. The study also demonstrated an independent impact of OHIS behavior on physical activity and calorie checking. Healthcare professionals may need to encourage and guide cancer survivors to seek credible eHealth information and further utilize digital health tools as a platform for care delivery, promoting health behaviors and preventing adverse health outcomes among cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Due to the paucity of paediatric rheumatologists in Kenya, it is paramount that we explore strategies to bridge clinical care gaps for paediatric rheumatology patients in order to promote early diagnosis, prompt referral, and optimal management. PURPOSE To identify proposed interventions which can improve the ability of non-specialist healthcare workers to care for paediatric rheumatology patients across Kenya. METHODS We conducted 12 focus group discussions with clinical officers (community physician assistants), nurses, general practitioners and paediatricians across six regions in Kenya. Interviews were conducted, audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed using MAXQDA 2022.2 software. RESULTS A total of 68 individuals participated in the study; 11 clinical officers, 12 nurses, 10 general practitioners, 27 paediatricians and eight other healthcare workers. Proposed patient interventions included patient education and psychosocial support. Community interventions were outreach awareness campaigns, mobilising financial support for patients' care, mobilising patients to access diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Healthcare worker interventions include diagnostic, management, and referral guidelines, as well as research and educational interventions related to symptom identification, therapeutic strategies, and effective patient communication skills. In addition, it was highlighted that healthcare systems should be bolstered to improve insurance coverage and access to integrated multi-disciplinary clinical care. CONCLUSIONS Study participants were able to identify potential initiatives to improve paediatric rheumatology care in Kenya. Additional efforts are underway to design, implement and monitor the impact of some of these potential interventions.

Abstract
Introduction There is growing evidence that aerobic exercise mitigates cancer therapy-related side effects and improves cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). However, to the best of our knowledge, no exercise study has been conducted in male breast cancer (MBC) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility and efficacy of different exercise intensities on CRF and self-reported questionnaire items in MBC patients. Methods Twenty-two MBC patients (60 ± 9 years) participated in this randomized crossover study. After completion of medical treatment, MBC patients were randomly assigned to either moderate (40-50% of heart rate [HR] max. and self-perceived exertion: 11) or vigorous (70-80% of HR max. and self-perceived exertion: 15) exercise intensity during the first 3 months of the study. After a 1-month washout period, participants switched group assignments. Primary endpoints were CRF and questionnaire items. Results We observed a dropout rate of 36% over 7 months, with the number of participants decreasing from 22 to 14. The results showed significant improvements in "Physical Function" (p = 0.037) and "Social Function" (p = 0.016) after moderate training. A non-significant improvement was also observed in "Breast Symptoms" (p = 0.095), but there was no change in "Fatigue" (p = 0.306). There were no differences observed in cardiovascular fitness (V̇O2 peak) between the treatment groups. Conclusion This study emphasizes the effectiveness of exercise intervention for an exceedingly rare cancer, highlighting the vital role of moderate intensity aerobic exercise in mitigating treatment side effects. Despite minimal peak V̇O2 differences, both exercise protocols adequately sustain CRF. Future studies are imperative to design optimized, sex-specific rehabilitation strategies tailored to the unique requirements of MBC patients, advancing our understanding of this under explored realm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insufficient physical activity (PA) and excess weight increase illness risk for women. Face-to-face interventions can increase PA levels; however, they are often inaccessible. With growing interest in digital interventions, a Self-Determination Theory (SDT)-driven intervention was developed and delivered via email to promote PA in women who were insufficiently active and overweight or obese. OBJECTIVE This substudy explores users' perspectives about the acceptability and usability of the intervention, which was coupled with a wearable activity monitor and PA recommendations. METHODS A 3-arm, parallel group, randomized controlled trial (unblinded) was conducted in Ontario, Canada. Recruitment occurred from September 2018 to March 2019 via advertising through social media, web-based boards, and posters in publicly accessible areas. In total, 47 women with a BMI of ≥25 kg/m2 who were not meeting the Canadian PA guidelines were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 arms (arm 1: n=15, 32%; arm 2: n=16, 34%; arm 3: n=16, 34%). This substudy focused on the 15 participants allocated to the main intervention arm. Participants received an automated intervention consisting of (1) 6 weekly emails, (2) a Polar Electro Inc A300 activity monitor (with access to the Polar Flow website and companion smartphone app), and (3) a copy of the Canadian PA guidelines for adults. Emails were developed using SDT and designed to enhance autonomous motivation by fostering the psychological needs of competence, autonomy, and relatedness. Well-established motivational and behavior change techniques were embedded in the emails to promote needs satisfaction. After the intervention (ie, 7 weeks after randomization), participants were invited to complete a web-based acceptability and usability survey containing open-ended and closed-ended questions; responses were analyzed using descriptive and content analyses, respectively. RESULTS The analyses included data from 93% (14/15) of the women (age: mean 33.4, SD 7.5; range 24-44 years; BMI: mean 31.3, SD 5.8 kg/m2; range 25-40.5 kg/m2) who received the main intervention and completed the postintervention survey. Open-ended responses indicated that participants were generally satisfied with the intervention and appreciated that emails prompted self-reflection, kept them on track and accountable, provided informational support, and were nonpressuring. Furthermore, they suggested that the monitor was "enjoyable" and "helpful"; quantitative data corroborated this, as 71% (10/14) said that the monitor was "very valuable/absolutely valuable," 71% (10/14) would "very probably/definitely" still use one, and 86% (12/14) wore it for ≥5 days per week for ≥8 hours per day and checked it "occasionally/frequently/very frequently." Potential threats to acceptability included "long" and "text-heavy" emails; lack of personal contact; and cumbersome, unaesthetic monitors. CONCLUSIONS Results suggest that this SDT-driven, email-delivered intervention may be an acceptable low-contact approach to promote PA in women who are overweight or obese and insufficiently active; however, improvements are warranted and studies ascertaining its effectiveness are needed. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite evidence that use of electronic medical record (EMR) messaging positively impacts patients with cancer, there is little research on utilization patterns. The objective of this study is to describe the use of EMR messaging among breast cancer patients so that future interventions may be developed and targeted appropriately. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sociodemographic and MyChart usage data were collected. Study eligibility included patients who completed a visit at an academic breast center and sent at least one message to a provider during the study period (May 2021-May 2022). Chi-square and t-tests were used to describe differences between users and nonusers of EMR messaging. ANOVA and chi-square were used to describe differences between race/ethnicity. RESULTS A total of 4069 patients with activated MyChart accounts were included in the analysis. About 3575 (87.9%) were messaging users and 494 (12.1%) were nonusers. The mean age of users was significantly lower compared to the nonusers (57.7 vs 61.2, P< .001). Compared to non-Hispanic White (NHW) individuals, non-Hispanic Black (NHB) (odds ratio [OR]: 0.38, CI [0.21, 0.37]) and Hispanic individuals (OR: 0.35, CI [0.22, 0.57]) were significantly less likely to use electronic messaging. There were statistically significant racial/ethnic differences in the types of messages sent among EMR users. CONCLUSION Our study shows disparate EMR messaging utilization based on age, race, and primary language. As the availability of patient portals and electronic messaging increase, it is important to understand the barriers that patients face so that they can be addressed.

Abstract
Objectives: Engaging in mind-body exercises (MBEs: e.g., Tai Chi and yoga) can have physical and mental health benefits particularly for older adults. Many MBEs require precise timing and coordination of complex body postures posing challenges for online instruction. Such challenges include difficulty viewing instructors as they demonstrate different movements and lack of feedback to participants. With the shift of exercise programs to online platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted a scoping review to examine the feasibility, usability, and acceptability of online MBE classes for older adults. Materials and Methods: We followed the scoping review methodology and adhered to the PRISMA reporting checklist. We searched five databases: Medline, Embase, CINHAL, Web of Science, and ACM digital library. Screening of articles and data extraction was conducted independently by two reviewers. Settings/Location: Online/virtual. Subjects: Older adults ≥55 years of age. Outcome Measures: Feasibility measures. Results: Of 6711 studies retrieved, 18 studies were included (715 participants, mean age 66.9 years). Studies reported moderate to high retention and adherence rates (mean >75%). Older adults reported online MBE classes were easy to use and reported high satisfaction with the online format. We also identified barriers (e.g., lack of space and privacy and unstable internet connection) and facilitators (e.g., convenience and technical support) to the online format. Opinions related to social connectedness were mixed. Conclusion: Online MBE programs for older adults appear to be a feasible and acceptable alternative to in-person programs. It is important to consider the type of exercise (e.g., MBE), diverse teaching styles, and learner needs when designing online exercise classes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although digital learning devices have become increasingly more common in medical education settings, it remains unclear how they influence medical student learning styles and various outcome measures. This study aimed to assess student learning styles, specifically as they relate to digital dependency, writing habits, and group learning practices among current medical students. MATERIALS AND METHODS This questionnaire study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 109 medical students who were 5th year students during the 2021 school year. Medical students were asked about their level of digital dependency, writing by hand, and group learning practices. We also analyzed the correlation between student learning styles and their respective outcomes on several summative evaluations. RESULTS Of the 109 students targeted, we received responses from 62 (response rate, 56.8%). Among the respondents, digital dependency was 83.4 ± 18.6%, while hand writing ratio 39.8 ± 29.9% and group learning ratio 33.5 ± 30.5%. We also assessed correlations between these learning styles and scores on the CBT, OSCE, CC, and CC Integrative Test. Only writing by hand showed a small positive correlation with CC Integrative Test scores. CONCLUSION Our questionnaire survey assessed the rates of digital dependency, writing by hand, and group learning practices, and analyzed the correlations between these learning styles and respective outcomes. Current medical students exhibited high digital dependency which was not correlated with performance outcomes.

Abstract
With over one million deaths per year in the world, suicide is a major public health problem that could be significantly reduced by effective prevention programs. E-health tools are of particular interest for primary prevention as they can address a broad population including people unaware of their own risk and provide information and help without the fear of stigma. Our main objective was to define the overall characteristics of an e-health tool for suicide primary prevention in the French general population by defining the characteristics of the IT features; the content of the information delivered; the best way to structure it; and how it should be relayed and by whom. The research was carried out through a literature review and a co-construction phase with stakeholders. Four types of strategies may guide the construction of e-health tools for suicide primary prevention: education and awareness, (self-)screening, accessing support, and mental health coping. They should be accessible on different devices to reach the most users, and language and content should be adapted to the target population and to the issue being addressed. Finally, the tool should be consistent with ethical and quality best practices. The e-health tool StopBlues was developed following those recommendations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Person-centered care responsive to individual preferences, needs, and values is recognized as an important aspect of high-quality health care, and patient empowerment is increasingly viewed as a central core value of person-centered care. Web-based interventions aimed at empowerment report a beneficial effect on patient empowerment and physical activity; however, there is limited information available on barriers, facilitators, and user experiences. A recent review of the effect of digital self-management support tools suggests a beneficial effect on the quality of life in patients with cancer. On the basis of an overall philosophy of empowerment, guided self-determination is a person-centered intervention that uses preparatory reflection sheets to help achieve focused communication between patients and nurses. The intervention was adapted into a digital version called digitally assisted guided self-determination (DA-GSD) hosted by the Sundhed DK website that can be delivered face-to-face, via video, or by the combination of the 2 methods. OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the experiences of nurses, nurse managers, and patients of using DA-GSD in 2 oncology departments and 1 gynecology department over a 5-year implementation period from 2018 to 2022. METHODS This qualitative study was inspired by action research comprising the responses of 17 patients to an open-ended question on their experience of specific aspects of DA-GSD in a web questionnaire, 14 qualitative semistructured interviews with nurses and patients who initially completed the web questionnaire, and transcripts of meetings held between the researchers and nurses during the implementation of the intervention. The thematic analysis of all data was done using NVivo (QSR International). RESULTS The analysis generated 2 main themes and 7 subthemes that reflect conflicting perspectives and greater acceptability of the intervention among the nurses over time owing to better familiarity with the increasingly mature technology. The first theme was the different experiences and perspectives of nurses and patients concerning barriers to using DA-GSD and comprised 4 subthemes: conflicting perspectives on the ability of patients to engage with DA-GSD and how to provide it, conflicting perspectives on DA-GSD as a threat to the nurse-patient relationship, functionality of DA-GSD and available technical equipment, and data security. The other theme was what influenced the increased acceptability of DA-GSD among the nurses over time and comprised 3 subthemes: a re-evaluation of the nurse-patient relationship; improved functionality of DA-GSD; and supervision, experience, patient feedback, and a global pandemic. CONCLUSIONS The nurses experienced more barriers to DA-GSD than the patients did. Acceptance of the intervention increased over time among the nurses in keeping with the intervention's improved functionality, additional guidance, and positive experiences, combined with patients finding it useful. Our findings emphasize the importance of supporting and training nurses if new technologies are to be implemented successfully.

Abstract
The aim of this review was to explore the acceptability, opportunities, and challenges associated with wearable activity-monitoring technology to increase physical activity (PA) behavior in cancer survivors. A search of Medline, Embase, CINAHL, and SportDiscus was conducted from 1 January 2011 through 3 October 2022. The search was limited to English language, and peer-reviewed original research. Studies were included if they reported the use of an activity monitor in adults (+18 years) with a history of cancer with the intent to motivate PA behavior. Our search identified 1832 published articles, of which 28 met inclusion/exclusion criteria. Eighteen of these studies included post-treatment cancer survivors, eight were on active cancer treatment, and two were long-term cancer survivor studies. ActiGraph accelerometers were the primary technology used to monitor PA behaviors, with Fitbit as the most commonly utilized self-monitoring wearable technology. Overall, wearable activity monitors were found to be an acceptable and useful tool in improving self-awareness, motivating behavioral change, and increasing PA levels. Self-monitoring wearable activity devices have a positive impact on short-term PA behaviors in cancer survivors, but the increase in PA gradually attenuated through the maintenance phase. Further study is needed to evaluate and increase the sustainability of the use of wearable technologies to support PA in cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Major advances in different cancer treatment modalities have been made, and people are now living longer with cancer. However, patients with cancer experience a range of physical and psychological symptoms during and beyond cancer treatment. New models of care are needed to combat this rising challenge. A growing body of evidence supports the effectiveness of eHealth interventions in the delivery of supportive care to people living with the complexities of chronic health conditions. However, reviews on the effects of eHealth interventions are scarce in the field of cancer-supportive care, particularly for interventions with the aim of empowering patients to manage cancer treatment-related symptoms. For this reason, this protocol has been developed to guide a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness of eHealth interventions for supporting patients with cancer in managing cancer-related symptoms. OBJECTIVE This systematic review with meta-analysis is conducted with the aim of identifying eHealth-based self-management intervention studies for adult patients with cancer and evaluating the efficacy of eHealth-based self-management tools and platforms in order to synthesize the empirical evidence on self-management and patient activation through eHealth. METHODS A systematic review with meta-analysis and methodological critique of randomized controlled trials is conducted following Cochrane Collaboration methods. Multiple data sources are used to identify all potential research sources for inclusion in the systematic review: (1) electronic databases such as MEDLINE, (2) forward reference searching, and (3) gray literature. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines for conducting the review were followed. The PICOS (Population, Interventions, Comparators, Outcomes, and Study Design) framework is used to identify relevant studies. RESULTS The literature search yielded 10,202 publications. The title and abstract screening were completed in May 2022. Data will be summarized, and if possible, meta-analyses will be performed. It is expected to finalize this review by Winter 2023. CONCLUSIONS The results of this systematic review will provide the latest data on leveraging eHealth interventions and offering effective and sustainable eHealth care, both of which have the potential to improve quality and efficiency in cancer-related symptoms. Abstract
Introduction: Heart failure is a common chronic disease associated with increased mortality and rehospitalization rates. Self-care management provided in various ways is one approach to avoiding the need for rehospitalization by lowering recurrence rates. Therefore, this study aims to determine the most effective self-care management interventions for heart failure patients.
Design and Methods: The databases Science Direct, Google Scholar, and PubMed were used to conduct literature reviews over ten years. In September 2021, a full-text article search was conducted using the keywords "Self-Care," "Self-Management," "Intervention," "Heart Failure Patients," and "Randomized Control Trial" in PubMed ScienceDirect and Google Scholar databases. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were determined using the PICOS technique. After the screening, 39 articles met the criteria.
Results: Self-care management is provided through education programs, training programs, and the utilization of apps and websites to improve its self-care abilities.
Conclusions: Therefore, one way to provide self-care management during the COVID-19 pandemic was through the program's website, which is viewed "remotely" and used to track patient progress.

Abstract
PURPOSES User preferences for how programs are delivered are an important consideration when developing healthy living interventions. The aim of this study was to investigate (a) if cancer survivors prefer telephone or internet delivery for a healthy living intervention and (b) what factors were associated with delivery preference. METHODS Australian cancer survivors (18 + years) were invited to complete an online or hardcopy cross-sectional survey measuring social and clinical demographic factors and validated measures of self-efficacy, health literacy, and social support. RESULTS Of the 168 respondents, the majority were female (n = 147, 92%) and breast cancer survivors (n = 122, 80%) and preferred internet delivery (n = 109, 65%). Participants who preferred internet delivery had a longer time since diagnosis (M = 9.85 years, SD = 8.20) compared to those who preferred telephone (M = 6.80 years, SD = 5.54), p = .03. However, logistic regression analyses demonstrated that no other variables (age, gender, socio-economic status, BMI, education, self-efficacy, health literacy, nor social support) had a direct association on delivery preference. CONCLUSIONS Cancer survivors appear to prefer internet delivery to telephone, particularly for those further along the survivorship trajectory. Future intervention development should therefore consider the internet modality for delivering accessible health interventions and offer the program to long-term cancer survivors. Whether these findings are replicable in the current post-pandemic phase is an important avenue for future research.

Abstract
Introduction Physical exercise showed to be beneficial for frail older adults on haemodialysis (HD). However, there are several obstacles hindering the regular practice of exercise, such as transportation difficulties, lack of time, fatigue and comorbidities. E-health in this regard has many potential advantages and could be useful for motivating HD patients to increase their level of physical activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a blended e-health intervention for elderly HD patients who individually exercise at home while under remote supervision of a physiotherapist. Material and methods Patients over 60 years of age with sufficient cognitive and motoric resources to perform a simple physical test battery and to use a tablet-computer were recruited from four HD outpatient facilities. Following baseline assessment at home, the participants were visited by a physiotherapist (PT). The PT set an individual exercise programme and explained how to use the web-based interface. During the 12 weeks of training, the PTs remotely supervised the patients' progress. At 12 weeks follow-up a second assessment took place. Results Twenty-two patients were recruited to participate in the study. Seven patients dropped out of the blended programme and 15 patients concluded the programme. The average training frequency of the 15 participants concluding the study was 1.5 times a week [range 0.2-5.8]. The duration of a training session was between 20 and 40 min. The usability of the system was deemed positive. Regarding the efficacy of the intervention, no significant improvement of any measured parameter was found, and effect sizes were small to medium. Conclusion A blended e-health intervention supported by a web-based application for exercising at home under remote supervision of a PT is feasible in a HD population including older patients. However, before planning a randomized controlled trial, strategies to increase the recruitment rate and the adherence to such a blended intervention should be further developed, e.g., to improve the recruitment procedures and lower the expectable drop-out rate. Furthermore, the dosage of the blended programme should be adapted to the patients' physical performance levels in future trials.The study was registered on the website clinicaltrials.gov with ID NCT04076488.

Abstract
This work aimed to evaluate the usage of a web-based intervention (WISE: Work ability Improvement through Symptom and Ergonomic strategies) developed to improve work ability for women recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Twenty-two women undergoing adjuvant treatment for breast cancer were provided access to WISE. This website includes content pages (e.g., information on ergonomics, symptom management, and other work-related resources) and worksheets (e.g., journals to track symptoms or goals). It could be personalized based on individual work activities and symptoms. Measures assessed at 3 months included usage of the website and perceived usefulness. Thirteen of the 22 participants (60%) accessed WISE; 11 personalized their information. Content and worksheet pages had 97 and 79 visits, respectively. Most frequently visited pages were "setting goals" (i.e., prioritize and track symptoms; 45 visits) and "steps to creating your WISE plan" (i.e., incorporate symptom and ergonomic strategies; 16 visits). Median duration time was 11.05 (range 0.35-79.55) minutes. Usefulness of the content and worksheet pages assessed via a 7-point Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree, 7 = strongly agree) was 5.08 (SD = 1.59) and 4.26 (SD = 2.03), respectively. Participants were likely to recommend WISE to other women undergoing cancer treatment (mean = 6.11; SD = 1.05). The majority of participants personalized WISE work and symptom strategies. Overall, participants agreed that WISE content pages were useful and would recommend WISE for other breast cancer survivors. Results support that majority of breast cancer survivors, undergoing treatment with curative intent, accessed a web-based intervention that provided personalized information on workplace and symptom strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND During the last decade, the health care profession has moved toward personalized care and has focused on the diversity of survivorship needs after initial cancer treatment. Health care providers encourage empowering patients to participate actively in their own health management and survivorship. Consequently, we developed and piloted a new follow-up model for patients at a Norwegian hospital, referred to as the Lifestyle and Empowerment Techniques in Survivorship of Gynecologic Oncology (LETSGO) model. Using LETSGO, a dedicated nurse replaces the physician in every second follow-up consultation, providing patients who have undergone cancer treatment with self-management techniques that are reinforced with eHealth technology via a specially designed app. Encouraging behavioral change and evaluating the late effects of treatment and recurrence symptoms are central components of self-management techniques. In addition, the app encourages physical activity and positive lifestyle changes, helps identify recurrence-related symptoms, and provides reminders of activity goals. This study aims to investigate experiences with nurse-led consultations supported by eHealth technology among the patients who piloted the LETSGO intervention. METHODS Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted to analyze the participants' experiences with the LETSGO intervention after six to seven months. RESULTS The participants in the LETSGO pilot felt safe and well cared for. They thought the nurse was less busy than the doctors appear to be, which made it easy for them to share any cancer-related challenges. Many participants reported increased empowerment and confidence in recognizing symptoms of cancer recurrence, and participants who used the app regularly were motivated to increase their physical activity levels. However, the participants also experienced some limitations and technical errors with the app. CONCLUSIONS Generally, the participants positively received the nurse-led consultations and eHealth technology, but an intervention study is required for further evaluation. In addition, the reported technical app errors should be resolved and tested prior to eHealth application implementation. Abstract
OBJECTIVES This paper focuses on formative research as part of a broader study to develop and evaluate an innovative digital health platform for the self-management of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The primary objective is to better understand the perceptions of key stakeholders towards the proposed platform (Salvio) and to identify the development considerations they may prioritise based on their own experiences of CVD management. DESIGN A qualitative research study using thematic analysis to explore patterns and themes within the various participant contributions. SETTING Triangulation of data collection methods were used to generate data, including focus group discussions, semistructured interviews and guided conversations. PARTICIPANTS Participants (n=26) were people with a diagnosis of CVD (n=18) and relevant healthcare professionals (n=8). RESULTS Findings indicate that the proposed platform would be a beneficial solution for certain groups whose health behaviour change is not currently supported by discrete solutions. Both participant groups perceive the digital health platform more trustworthy than accessing multiple interventions through unsupported digital repositories. Healthcare professionals agreed that they would endorse an evidence-based platform that had been rigorously developed and evaluated. CVD participants prioritised a decision support tool to guide them through the platform, as they perceive an unstructured approach as overly complex. Both participant groups perceived data sharing with certain self-selected individuals (eg, spouse) to be a useful method for gaining support with their health behaviour change. CONCLUSIONS A digital health platform offering a variety of existing, evidence-based interventions would provide users with suitable self-management solution(s) based on their own individual needs and preferences. Salvio could be enhanced by providing adequate support to platform users, guiding the diverse CVD population through a host of digital solutions, ensuring that Salvio is endorsed by trusted healthcare professionals and maintaining connections with usual care. Such a platform would augment existing self-management and secondary prevention services.

Abstract
PURPOSE This meta-analysis was to critically evaluate the effects of Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) on the symptoms of anxiety and depression in cancer patients. METHODS Eight Chinese and English databases (CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, CBM, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and PsycINFO) were systematically searched from the inception of databases to May 2022 for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs). According to the Cochrane Collaboration criteria, two reviewers independently assessed the risk of bias and extract data from included studies. All analyses were performed with Review Manager 5.4. RESULTS Thirteen qualified studies were included in the meta-analysis, twelve of which reported the effect of ICBT on anxiety in 2079 cancer patients; thirteen of the studies reported the effect of ICBT on depression in 2179 patients. The meta-analysis indicated that ICBT was effective in improving anxiety [SMD = -0.37, 95%CI (-0.62, -0.12), P < 0.01, I2 = 86%] and depression [SMD = -0.27, 95%CI (-0.44, -0.09), P < 0.01, I2 = 72%] symptoms in cancer patients, especially those undergoing anti-cancer treatment. Therapist-guided ICBT was more effective than self-directed ICBT. ICBT lasting for ≤12 weeks could relieve anxiety and depressive symptoms of cancer patients. ICBT with number of modules ≥5 had a small effect on anxiety and depression relief while ICBT with number of modules <5 was found to be ineffective. CONCLUSIONS ICBT lasting for ≤12 weeks, especially therapist-directed, helps relieve the anxiety and depressive symptoms of cancer patients. The ideal number of modules for ICBT and its long-term efficacy need to be validated by more studies of higher-quality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Connected health technologies have the potential to improve access to cancer care and support and reduce costs. We aimed to assess the impacts of interventions delivered using connected health technologies on psychological and quality of life (QoL) outcomes in people living with and beyond cancer. METHODS PUBMED, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBASE were searched using terms relating to (i) cancer, (ii) connected health, and (iii) QoL/psychological wellbeing. Studies were included if they evaluated interventions using connected health technologies and assessed psychological and/or QoL outcomes for adults at any stage of cancer treatment or survivorship. RESULTS Thirty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria with a total of 8956 participants. Connected health technologies included web-based applications (n = 24), smart applications (n = 12), and wearable devices (n = 1). Studies were heterogeneous in terms of intervention components. We identified five clusters: (i) Psychosocial support and rehabilitation, (ii) psychoeducation and information support, (iii) symptom monitoring, reporting and self-management, (iv) peer and social support, and (v) health coaching and physical activity training. Due to heterogeneity of outcome measures, the meta-analysis included only seven RCTs; pooled mean estimates showed connected health interventions were moderately effective in reducing symptoms of depression (SMD: -0.226, 95% CI -0.303/-0.149) and anxiety (SMD: -0.188, 95% CI: 0.279/-0.0963) compared with usual care. CONCLUSION While the considerable heterogeneity observed highlights the need for more rigorous studies to improve reproducibility and efficiency, results suggest that connected health interventions have the potential to improve psychological wellbeing and QoL outcomes in people living with and beyond cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND During and after systemic therapy, patients with high risk and advanced melanoma experience challenges regarding cancer-related symptoms, treatment-related adverse events, and an impact of these symptoms on their physical and psychosocial well-being. Few studies have investigated the specific needs of these patients and the potential role of eHealth applications in meeting those needs. OBJECTIVE To explore the supportive care and information needs of high risk and advanced melanoma patients, and how these needs can be supported by eHealth applications. METHODS In this qualitative study, semi-structured interviews with high risk and advanced melanoma patients during or after systemic treatment were conducted to understand their needs and requirements as possible end-users of mobile eHealth applications. Interview transcripts were independently coded and thematically analyzed. RESULTS Thirteen participants consented to be interviewed, aged 31 to 71 years. Nearly all patients (n = 12, 92%) experienced unmet information and supportive care needs during and after active treatment. Patients expected to value eHealth applications that facilitate information gathering, wellbeing interventions, and symptom management. The majority of patients (n = 10, 77%) anticipated various advantages from using an eHealth application, including increased autonomy, higher quality of life, and improved disease self-management. DISCUSSION High risk and advanced melanoma patients have unmet supportive care and information needs during and after systemic treatment. The use of eHealth applications might be an effective way to meet these unmet needs. Patients anticipate a variety of advantages from using these applications, including deriving various benefits from the use of these applications, such as enhanced autonomy.

Abstract
Background While effectiveness outcomes of eHealth-facilitated integrated care models (eICMs) in transplant and oncological populations are promising, implementing and sustaining them in real-world settings remain challenging. Allogeneic stem cell transplant (alloSCT) patients could benefit from an eICM to enhance health outcomes. To combat health deterioration, integrating chronic illness management, including continuous symptom and health behaviour monitoring, can shorten reaction times. We will test the 1st-year post-alloSCT effectiveness and evaluate bundled implementation strategies to support the implementation of a newly developed and adapted eICM in allogeneic stem cell transplantation facilitated by eHealth (SMILe–ICM). SMILe-ICM has been designed by combining implementation, behavioural, and computer science methods. Adaptions were guided by FRAME and FRAME-IS. It consists of four modules: 1) monitoring & follow-up; 2) infection prevention; 3) physical activity; and 4) medication adherence, delivered via eHealth and a care coordinator (an Advanced Practice Nurse). The implementation was supported by contextually adapted implementation strategies (e.g., creating new clinical teams, informing local opinion leaders). Methods Using a hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomised controlled trial, we will include a consecutive sample of 80 adult alloSCT patients who were transplanted and followed by University Hospital Basel (Switzerland). Inclusion criteria are basic German proficiency; elementary computer literacy; internet access; and written informed consent. Patients will be excluded if their condition prevents the use of technology, or if they are followed up only at external centres. Patient-level (1:1) stratified randomisation into a usual care group and a SMILe-ICM group will take place 10 days pre-transplantation. To gauge the SMILe–ICM’s effectiveness primary outcome (re-hospitalisation rate), secondary outcomes (healthcare utilization costs; length of inpatient re-hospitalizations, medication adherence; treatment and self-management burden; HRQoL; Graft-versus-Host Disease rate; survival; overall survival rate) and implementation outcomes (acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity), we will use multi-method, multi-informant assessment (via questionnaires, interviews, electronic health record data, cost capture methods). Discussion The SMILe–ICM has major innovative potential for reengineering alloSCT follow-up care, particularly regarding short- and medium-term outcomes. Our dual focus on implementation and effectiveness will both inform optimization of the SMILe-ICM and provide insights regarding implementation strategies and pathway, understudied in eHealth-facilitated ICMs in chronically ill populations. Abstract
BACKGROUND The adoption and use of technology have significantly changed health care delivery. Patient experience has become a significant factor in the entire spectrum of patient-centered health care delivery. Digital health facilitates further improvement and empowerment of patient experiences. Therefore, the design of digital health is served by insights into the barriers to and facilitators of digital patient experience (PEx). OBJECTIVE This study aimed to systematically review the influencing factors and design considerations of PEx in digital health from the literature and generate design guidelines for further improvement of PEx in digital health. METHODS We performed an umbrella systematic review following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) methodology. We searched Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. Two rounds of small random sampling (20%) were independently reviewed by 2 reviewers who evaluated the eligibility of the articles against the selection criteria. Two-round interrater reliability was assessed using the Fleiss-Cohen coefficient (k1=0.88 and k2=0.80). Thematic analysis was applied to analyze the extracted data based on a small set of a priori categories. RESULTS The search yielded 173 records, of which 45 (26%) were selected for data analysis. Findings and conclusions showed a great diversity; most studies presented a set of themes (19/45, 42%) or descriptive information only (16/45, 36%). The digital PEx-related influencing factors were classified into 9 categories: patient capability, patient opportunity, patient motivation, intervention technology, intervention functionality, intervention interaction design, organizational environment, physical environment, and social environment. These can have three types of impacts: positive, negative, or double edged. We captured 4 design constructs (personalization, information, navigation, and visualization) and 3 design methods (human-centered or user-centered design, co-design or participatory design, and inclusive design) as design considerations. CONCLUSIONS We propose the following definition for digital PEx: "Digital patient experience is the sum of all interactions affected by a patient's behavioral determinants, framed by digital technologies, and shaped by organizational culture, that influence patient perceptions across the continuum of care channeling digital health." In this study, we constructed a design and evaluation framework that contains 4 phases-define design, define evaluation, design ideation, and design evaluation-and 9 design guidelines to help digital health designers and developers address digital PEx throughout the entire design process. Finally, our review suggests 6 directions for future digital PEx-related research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spine disorders are conditions that affect a growing number of individuals, and mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) offer potential to assist the self-management of these conditions. OBJECTIVES To perform a systematic review of the availability of mHealth apps for patients with spine disorders at Brazilian online stores and evaluate the apps in terms of engagement, user interface, experience, and quality of the information. DESIGN Systematic review. METHOD A search for spine disorders mHealth apps from the Google Play Store and AppStore in Brazil was performed by two independent reviewers on June 2021. Only smartphone apps in Brazilian Portuguese directed at spine disorders that provided information about education, counseling, exercise, or monitoring of patient health were included. The quality of eligible mHealth apps was assessed using the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS). RESULTS Of the 2775 mHealth apps found, 10 were eligible for inclusion. All apps offered exercise programs. Three apps also offered tools to track patient-reported symptoms, nutritional orientation, or educational content in addition to the exercise program. Using MARS, the apps scored poorly in terms of quality, with an overall mean score ±standard deviation of 2.75 ± 0.63 on a scale of 1-5 points. Most apps scored poorly for credibility, user interface, and engagement. CONCLUSIONS The mHealth apps for spine disorders currently available in Brazil are of poor quality and limited functionality. Effective collaboration between industry and researchers is needed to develop better user-centered mHealth apps that can empower patients with these conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Given the increasing number of cancer survivors and their rising survival rates, rehabilitation plays an increasingly important role. Social support among patients is an essential element of inpatient and day care rehabilitation. The internet can empower patients with cancer to become more active health care consumers and facilitate information and supportive care needs. By contrast, therapists suspect that high internet use during rehabilitation may severely limit social interactions between patients, thus interfering with the patients' rehabilitation program and jeopardizing treatment success. OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that the extent of internet use would be negatively related to social support among patients with cancer during their clinical stay as well as fewer improvements in patient-reported treatment outcomes from the first to the last day of their clinical stay. METHODS Patients with cancer participated during their inpatient rehabilitation. Cross-sectional data, such as the extent of participants' internet use and perceived social support among patients, were collected during the last week of their clinic stay. The treatment outcomes, that is, participants' levels of distress, fatigue, and pain, were collected on the first and last day of the clinic stay. We used multiple linear regression analysis to study the association between the extent of internet use and social support among patients with cancer. We used linear mixed model analyses to study the association between the extent of internet use by patients with cancer and the change in patient-reported treatment outcomes. RESULTS Of the 323 participants, 279 (86.4%) participants reported that they used the internet. The extent of the internet use (t315=0.78; P=.43) was not significantly associated with the perceived social support among the participants during their clinical stay. In addition, the extent of participants' internet use during their clinical stay was not associated with changes in participants' levels of distress (F1,299=0.12; P=.73), fatigue (F1,299=0.19; P=.67), and pain (F1,303=0.92; P=.34) from the first to the last day of their clinical stay. CONCLUSIONS The extent of internet use does not seem to be negatively associated with the perceived social support among patients with cancer or with the change in patients' levels of distress, fatigue, or pain from the first to the last day of their clinical stay.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Survivors of breast cancer can face internal barriers to physical activity, such as uncertainty and frustration stemming from physical limitations, decreased physical functioning, fatigue, and pain. Interventions that draw from the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) may help survivors of breast cancer overcome some of the internal barriers associated with physical activity. OBJECTIVE The primary aim of this study was to investigate the acceptability of an electronically delivered physical activity intervention for survivors of breast cancer, centered on ACT processes. METHODS This study used a 1-group pretest-posttest design. We recruited 80 insufficiently active female survivors of breast cancer using a web-based recruitment strategy. The 8-week intervention consisted of weekly modules that featured didactic lessons and experiential exercises targeting key ACT processes in the context of physical activity promotion (namely, values, committed action, acceptance, defusion, and contacting the present moment). We determined intervention acceptability according to study retention (≥70%), adherence rates (≥75% of the participants completing ≥50% of the modules), and posttest survey scores reflecting the perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and interest and enjoyment of the intervention (≥5 on a 7-point Likert-type scale). We also evaluated changes in self-reported aerobic and muscle strengthening-physical activity, physical activity acceptance, physical activity regulation, and health-related outcomes. RESULTS The retention rate (61/80, 76%), adherence rate (60/80, 75%), average perceived ease of use (6.17, SD 1.17), perceived usefulness (5.59, SD 1.40), and interest and enjoyment scores (5.43, SD 1.40) met the acceptability criteria. Participants increased their self-reported aerobic physical activity (Cohen d=1.04), muscle strengthening-physical activity (Cohen d=1.02), physical activity acceptance (cognitive acceptance: Cohen d=0.35; behavioral commitment: Cohen d=0.51), physical activity regulation (identified regulation: Cohen d=0.37; integrated regulation: Cohen d=0.66), increased their ability to participate in social roles and activities (Cohen d=0.18), and reported less fatigue (Cohen d=0.33) and sleep disturbance (Cohen d=0.53). CONCLUSIONS Electronically delivered acceptance- and mindfulness-based interventions may be useful for promoting physical activity in survivors of breast cancer. Further research is needed to refine these approaches and evaluate their effectiveness.

Abstract
Physicians are increasingly utilizing digital health technologies (DHT) such as smartphone applications, network-enabled wearable devices, web-based communication platforms, videoconferencing, chatbots, artificial intelligence and virtual reality to improve access to, and quality of, care. DHT aid in cancer screening, patient education, shared decision-making, promotion of positive health habits, symptom monitoring and intervention, patient-provider communication, provision of psychological support and delivery of effective survivorship care. This narrative review outlines how physicians may utilize digital health to improve or augment their delivery of cancer care. For the full potential of DHT to be realized, experts must develop appropriate solutions to issues surrounding the regulation, liability, quality, security, equity and reimbursement of DHT.

Abstract
AIM This study is conducted to synthesize the effects of web-based self-management intervention on patients with cancer. EVALUATION We searched Web of Science, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane library databases for related randomized controlled trials from inception through 2021. Reference lists of included studies were also searched for additional qualified studies. For quantitative data synthesis, standardized mean differences were used to eliminate the influence caused by different scales. Narrative synthesis was also performed. KEY ISSUES Nine in 1149 studies were included for narrative and quantitative analysis. The pooled data suggested that patients in the intervention group had better quality of life (standardized mean difference = 1.091, 95% confidence interval: 0.155-2.028) and lower depression (standardized mean difference = -1.634, 95% confidence interval: -2.980 to -0.287) than those in the control group. The result of narrative synthesis is that patients receiving intervention had lower cancer or symptom distress and higher self-efficacy than those in the control group. CONCLUSION Web-based self-management intervention improved lives of cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Internet-based lifestyle programs are increasingly being used to deliver health behavior change interventions to survivors of cancer. However, little is known about website use in this population or its association with healthy lifestyle changes. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to describe lifestyle intervention website use (log-ins, time on website, and page views) among survivors of cancer and patterns of use by participant characteristics. In addition, associations were explored between website use and changes in healthy lifestyle knowledge and practice. METHODS A total of 35 survivors of cancer were recruited between August 2017 and 2018 to participate in a 2-week, single-arm pilot test of the SurvivorSHINE lifestyle intervention website. Knowledge and practices related to healthy diet and physical activity behaviors were measured at baseline and follow-up. Website use (eg, time spent on the website, frequency of log-ins, and page views) were collected from the SurvivorSHINE administrative site during the intervention period. Patterns of use were examined by participants' gender and race. Correlations between website use and changes in healthy lifestyle knowledge, physical activity, diet, and weight were explored. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare demographic factors on website use. RESULTS Participants logged into the SurvivorSHINE intervention website an average of 3.2 (SD 2) times over the 2-week period and spent a total average of 94 (SD 56) minutes viewing the website during the intervention. Examining website activity, 1905 page views were logged. The User Profile (344 page views) and Home sections (301 page views) were the most frequently visited components. No associations were observed between the frequency of log-ins or the total time on the website, improvements in knowledge related to healthy lifestyles, or changes in body weight or dietary intake. However, the total time on the website was positively correlated with improvements in accelerometer-measured physical activity (r=0.74; P=.02) and self-reported physical activity (r=0.35; P=.04). CONCLUSIONS Survivors of cancer demonstrated clear interest in a diet and exercise intervention website, as evidenced by their frequency of log-ins, page views on numerous features, and total viewing time. Moreover, increased website use was correlated with improvements in physical activity.

Abstract
Background This study assessed the impact of Otago exercises on frailty and empowerment in older nursing home residents. Methods This randomized controlled trial included 72 individuals aged over 65 years residing in a single nursing home in Izmir, Turkey. The participants were randomly assigned to the Otago exercise group (OEG) or control group (CG). The OEG performed Otago exercises for 45 minutes, 3 days per week for 12 weeks plus a walking program the 3 other days of the week. In addition to Otago exercise training, the OEG received training based on empowerment consisting of 10 sessions lasting 30 minutes each. The CG received no intervention except routine care in the nursing home. The data collected were sociodemographic characteristics, Edmonton Frail Scale (EFS) scores, and Elderly Empowerment Scale (EES) scores before and 3 months after the intervention. Results We observed significant differences between the mean EFS (p=0.0001) and mean EES (p=0.0001) before and 3 months after the intervention in the OEG compared to the CG. We also observed a significant difference between the OEG and CG in mean EFS (p=0.018) and EES (p=0.0001) 3 months after the intervention. Conclusion The results of the present study demonstrated the positive impact of the Otago exercise program on preventing/delaying frailty and enhancing empowerment in older people.

Abstract
Introduction Diabetes mellitus is known as a major chronic disease that has a number of consequences affecting individuals' health conditions and socioeconomic aspects of life. These challenges require innovative interventions, such as self-management to improve patients' health condition and reduce the economic burden of healthcare systems. The current research aimed to identify patients' and physicians' perspectives about the use of health information technology in diabetes management in Iran. Methods This was a qualitative study conducted in 2019. In order to collect data, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight patients and 10 specialists in an endocrine and metabolism research center and in a teaching hospital. The interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Finally, data were analyzed by using framework analysis method and MAXQDA version 10. Results According to the results, both patients and physicians believed that while using health information technology can improve access to healthcare services, the high cost of technology may hinder its usage. Factors such as government and health system support can motivate users to use the technology, and factors such as lack of user training and technical problems may have a negative impact on technology usage. Conclusion As a number of motivational and inhibitory factors may influence the use of health information technology in diabetes management, it is imperative to take each of these factors into account before designing and implementing new technologies, especially for diabetes management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Empowerment is critical for cancer patients to make informed choices, to manage medication, and to navigate through the oncological care system. Cancer peer support provides patients with information, emotional relief and may promote empowerment. This paper provides a systematic review of the literature examining the impact of cancer peer support interventions on psychological empowerment. METHODS PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO and PSYNDEX databases were systematically searched from inception until December 2020. We included quantitative studies, published in English or German, which examined peer-led cancer support interventions and their impact on the three components of psychological empowerment (intrapersonal, interactional and behavioural) among participating cancer patients. RESULTS Database searches and screening of relevant reference lists identified 2336 potentially relevant articles. A total of 29 studies were included in the review. Active coping, self-efficacy and knowledge were the most prominent dimensions of empowerment in these studies. The majority of studies revealed that peer support led to a small to medium, significant increase in psychological empowerment, and was associated with further patient-reported benefits. CONCLUSIONS The existing evidence suggests a weak to moderate, positive association between cancer peer support and the three components of psychological empowerment among cancer patients. Peer support groups should be seen as an important element in cancer care and clinical practice and, thus, be more systematically involved in cancer care.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore participants' experiences and perspectives on the relevance and meaning of participating in the multimodal interdisciplinary rehabilitation programme named 'HAPPY', and the programme's influence on their handling of everyday life during and after non-myeloablative allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. METHOD A qualitative interview study using Thorne's interpretive description methodology. A semi-structured interview guide and the analysis were inspired by symbolic interactionism. From April to July 2020, individual interviews were conducted with 24 patients who had participated in HAPPY while undergoing non-myeloablative haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. RESULTS HAPPY contributed to the patients' knowledge building on the basis of three themes: Social Solidarity and Comparison, Processing Mind and Body, and Balancing Disease and Life. HAPPY supported the participants in maintaining their physical functioning and induced a perception of empowerment. Moreover, HAPPY supported patients in their efforts to familiarise themselves with their changed life conditions after the stem cell transplantation. CONCLUSION Our findings showed that participation in HAPPY empowered patients to manage and cope with the stresses of everyday life and restore balance in their lives whilst undergoing treatment and confronting their cancer diagnosis. The findings underline the importance of elements of peer support and continuous support and facilitation from the specialist team, and the possibility to rethink the use of online technology to support and ensure a balance between disease and life and to minimise hospital visits.

Abstract
Background Contextually adapting complex interventions and tailoring their implementation strategies is key to a successful and sustainable implementation. While reporting guidelines for adaptations and tailoring exist, less is known about how to conduct context-specific adaptations of complex health care interventions. Aims To describe in methodological terms how the merging of contextual analysis results (step 1) with stakeholder involvement, and considering overarching regulations (step 2) informed our adaptation of an Integrated Care Model (ICM) for SteM cell transplantatIon faciLitated by eHealth (SMILe) and the tailoring of its implementation strategies (step 3). Methods Step 1: We used a mixed-methods design at University Hospital Basel, guided by the Basel Approach for coNtextual ANAlysis (BANANA). Step 2: Adaptations of the SMILe-ICM and tailoring of implementation strategies were discussed with an interdisciplinary team (n = 28) by considering setting specific and higher-level regulatory scenarios. Usability tests were conducted with patients (n = 5) and clinicians (n = 4). Step 3: Adaptations were conducted by merging our results from steps 1 and 2 using the Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications-Enhanced (FRAME). We tailored implementation strategies according to the Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) compilation. Results Step 1: Current clinical practice was mostly acute-care-driven. Patients and clinicians valued eHealth-facilitated ICMs to support trustful patient-clinician relationships and the fitting of eHealth components to context-specific needs. Step 2: Based on information from project group meetings, adaptations were necessary on the organizational level (e.g., delivery of self-management information). Regulations informed the tailoring of SMILe-ICM`s visit timepoints and content; data protection management was adapted following Swiss regulations; and steering group meetings supported infrastructure access. The usability tests informed further adaptation of technology components. Step 3: Following FRAME and ERIC, SMILe-ICM and its implementation strategies were contextually adapted and tailored to setting-specific needs. Discussion This study provides a context-driven methodological approach on how to conduct intervention adaptation including the tailoring of its implementation strategies. The revealed meso-, and macro-level differences of the contextual analysis suggest a more targeted approach to enable an in-depth adaptation process. A theory-guided adaptation phase is an important first step and should be sufficiently incorporated and budgeted in implementation science projects.

Abstract
Background: Adults living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) often have difficulties when trying to access health care services. Interactive communication technologies are a valuable tool to enable patients to access supportive interventions to cope with their disease. The aim of this revision and meta-analysis is to analyze the content and efficacy of web-based supportive interventions in quality of life in COPD. Methods: Medline (via PubMed), Web of Science, and Scopus were the databases used to select the studies for this systematic review. A screening, analysis, and assessment of the methodological quality was carried out by two independent researchers. A meta-analysis of the extracted data was performed. Results: A total of 9 of the 3089 studies reviewed met the inclusion criteria. Most repeated web content elements were educational and involved communication with healthcare professional content. Finally, seven of the nine studies were included in a quantitative analysis. Web-based supportive interventions significantly improved quality of life when added to usual care (SMD = −1.26, 95% CI = −1.65, −0.86; p < 0.001) but no significant differences were found when compared with an autonomous pedometer walking intervention (p = 0.64) or a face-to-face treatment (p = 0.82). Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that web-based supportive interventions may complement or accompany treatments in COPD patients due to the advantages of online interventions. The results obtained should be treated with caution due to the limited number of studies in this area and methodological weaknesses.

Abstract
ZusammenfassungIn Deutschland besteht ein deutlicher Mangel an internistischen Rheumatologen. Um
diese Versorgungslücke zu reduzieren, können verschiedene
technische Anwendungen genutzt werden. Dies reicht von der Hilfe bei der
Früherkennung und Diagnostik für Hausärzte, über
Konsilsysteme mit Telemedizin, bis hin zur Videosprechstunde mit den Patienten
nach Koordination in einem entsprechenden Netzwerk, das stufenförmig
aufgebaut ist, um die vorhandenen Spezialisten möglichst effektiv
einzusetzen. Auch Apps für die Nutzung am Smartphone oder Tablet
können sowohl Ärzte in Diagnostik und Therapie
unterstützen, aber auch vielfältig Patienten bei den jeweiligen
Krankheitsbewältigungen helfen. Eine Sonderform sind dabei
„Digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen“ (DiGAs), die geprüft
wurden und als Medizinprodukte zugelassen und verordnungsfähig sind.
Für die Unterstützung von Bewegungsübungen, wie sie bei
rheumatischen Erkrankungen so wichtig sind, kommen auch Telemedizinische
Assistenzsysteme in Betracht, bei denen über 3D-Kamera und
Computeranalyse zu Hause ein individuelles Übungsprogramm angeleitet und
kontrolliert wird. Studien zu Anwendungen und Bewertungsoptionen für
Apps liegen bereits einige vor, hier besteht aber noch hoher Nachholbedarf.

Abstract
AIM This systematic review aimed to systematically summarize studies obtained through a database search and examine the effect of web-based intervention programs on self-management and symptom management in patients with lymphoma. METHODS A systematic review of randomized controlled trials was carried out. Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, ProQuest, Science Direct, and Ovid databases were reviewed until January 2021. The flow chart of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis checklist was used in the search procedure without setting a year limit. Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes and Study criteria were determined by two independent investigators and published randomized controlled studies in English with lymphoma diagnosis and web-based intervention programs for self-management and symptom management were included in the systematic review. The included studies were examined for their risk of bias with the help of the Cochrane Collaboration tool. A narrative synthesis of study findings was performed. RESULTS Six randomized controlled trials with 2382 participants were included in the systematic review. Web-based intervention programs in patients diagnosed with lymphoma were found to be generally implemented for determining the levels of self-management and symptom management. In all of the studies reviewed, it was found that the interventions had treatment outcomes. The risk of Bias 2 was evaluated as high risk in two studies that did not meet the criteria for blinding outcome evaluations. The included studies, while evaluating the effects of web-based intervention programs on patient outcomes, could not provide information about the underlying mechanisms by which these effects occur and how they occur. CONCLUSIONS All of the studies included were found to apply a technology designed to improve outcomes in patients with lymphoma. It is recommended that web-based intervention programs be individualized by adapting them to lymphoma types and stages, and serve as a guide for effective symptom management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although relatively new, digital health interventions are demonstrating rapid growth because of their ability to facilitate access and overcome issues of location, time, health status, and most recently, the impact of a major pandemic. With the increased uptake of digital technologies, digital health has the potential to improve the provision of supportive cancer care. OBJECTIVE This systematic review aims to evaluate digital health interventions for supportive cancer care. METHODS Published literature between 2000 and 2020 was systematically searched in MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus. Eligible publications were randomized controlled trials of clinician-led digital health interventions to support adult cancer patients. The interventions included were determined by applying a digital health conceptual model. Studies were appraised for quality using the revised Cochrane risk of bias tool. RESULTS Twenty randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria for the analysis. Interventions varied by duration, frequency, degree of technology use, and applied outcome measures. Interventions targeting a single tumor stream, predominantly breast cancer, and studies involving the implementation of remote symptom monitoring have dominated the results. In most studies, digital intervention resulted in significant positive outcomes in patient-reported symptoms, levels of fatigue and pain, health-related quality of life, functional capacity, and depression levels compared with the control. CONCLUSIONS Digital health interventions are helpful and effective for supportive care of patients with cancer. There is a need for high-quality research. Future endeavors could focus on the use of valid, standardized outcome measures, maintenance of methodological rigor, and strategies to improve patient and health professional engagement in the design and delivery of supportive digital health interventions. Abstract
Background Physical activity (PA) has been shown to improve total mortality and colorectal-specific mortality risk; however, colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors have lower rates of PA compared with survivors with other types of cancers. Objective To examine the effect of PA interventions on CRC survivors. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to identify randomized controlled trials that met the inclusion criteria, which included an intervention designed to increase PA and more than 1 outcome of interest. Random effects of the meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3. Results Eight publications representing 7 randomized controlled trials of 803 participants were identified. All studies used a combination of behavioral change methods. Physical activity interventions significantly improved disease-specific quality of life, PA level, and maximum amount of oxygen and did not show significant improvements for fatigue and body mass index among CRC survivors. Conclusions We provided evidence that PA interventions were effective in improving disease-specific quality of life, PA level, and maximum amount of oxygen; however, they did not improve fatigue and body mass index. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to determine the optimal mode of delivering PA intervention for CRC survivors. Implications for Practice As the survival rate of patients with CRC increases, survivors of CRC need to increase PA in a community setting after completing primary treatments. Effective and efficient modes of PA intervention delivery could improve health-related outcomes and address specific barriers for CRC survivors.
