Abstract
INTRODUCTION To explore the impact of the lockdown and social distancing measures, applied for one year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic on Activities of Daily Living in patients with Parkinson's disease, as well as to determine the association between daily performance and tasks requiring more manipulative dexterity. METHODS Data collection was carried out between 18 January and 22 March 2021 through telephone interviews. Patients were recruited from associations of patients with Parkinson's disease in Spain. A questionnaire was designed including items from standardized tools of the Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire to measure the level of independence and from the Dexterity Questionnaire for manipulative dexterity. RESULTS There were 126 participants aged 36-89 years, 58% of whom were male. The results of our study reveal a significant decline in almost all the ADLs assessed. There is a moderate correlation between the degree of dependence in ADLs and the difficulty in performing activities requiring manipulative dexterity. CONCLUSIONS Social isolation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences may have contributed to an increase in the deterioration of manipulative ability, leading to a loss of ability to perform ADLs. These results show specific needs to be considered in the rehabilitation treatment of these patients.

Abstract
While the direct effects of COVID-19 caused widespread global suffering and death, the indirect impacts-via public health preventative measures and a reduction in health and social care services-were also devastating for many. More recently, it has also become increasingly apparent that such measures have had disproportionate effects, exacerbating existing health inequalities. For caregivers of individuals with chronic illness, the effects have been marked and particularly so for informal caregivers of individuals with complex neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's. Nine informal caregivers (all partners: three men and six women) of individuals with Parkinson's in England took part in individual semi-structured interviews on two occasions (December 2021/January 2022 and May 2022). The interviews focused on their experiences of supporting their partner, their own challenges, and how these evolved and changed post-lockdown. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to inform the methodology and analysis. Four themes were identified: (i) lockdown-induced revolution and evolution of the relationship dynamic with partner; (ii) fighting to be seen, heard, and understood in healthcare encounters; (iii) making sense of, and adapting to, risk in a time of COVID-19; and (iv) managing isolation and need for support during and after lockdown. The negative effects from both the lockdowns and the depletion of usual health and support services were apparent for all participants. Existing vulnerabilities from being a carer of an individual with complex needs were also exacerbated. As caregivers worked hard to mitigate these effects for their partners as much as possible, the long-term impact of such intense psychological and practical effort was often considerable. Ultimately, a simple restoration of pre-lockdown support levels may be insufficient to facilitate a successful return to optimal levels of support and wellbeing.

Abstract
Objective The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic changed the lives of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their caregivers. This study aimed to investigate changes in patient behavior and PD symptoms and their effect on caregiver burden resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. Methods This nationwide, observational, cross-sectional survey included patients with self-reported PD and caregivers (members of the Japan Parkinson's Disease Association). The primary objective was to evaluate changes in behaviors, self-assessed PD symptoms, and caregiver burden from pre-COVID-19 (February 2020) to post-national state of emergency (August 2020 and February 2021). Results Responses from 1883 patients and 1382 caregivers from 7610 distributed surveys were analyzed. Mean (standard deviation) age of patients and caregivers was 71.6 (8.2) and 68.5 (11.4) years, respectively; 41.6% of patients had a Hoehn and Yahr (HY) scale of 3. Patients (>40.0%) reported decreased frequency of going out. Most patients (>70.0%) reported no change in treatment visit frequency, voluntary training, or rehabilitation and nursing care insurance services. Symptoms worsened for approximately 7-30% of patients; the proportion with HY scale 4-5 increased from pre-COVID-19 (25.2%) to February 2021 (40.1%). Aggravated symptoms included bradykinesia, walking, gait speed, depressed mood, fatigue, and apathy. Caregivers' burden increased because of patients' worsened symptoms and reduced time going out. Conclusion Control measures during infectious disease epidemics should consider that patients' symptoms may worsen; therefore, patient and caregiver support is needed to reduce burden of care.

Abstract
PURPOSE As the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in social restrictions around the globe, this cross-sectional survey aimed to assess the impact of social isolation on self- or proxy-reported symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) during the pandemic. PATIENTS AND METHODS The survey was distributed among 7109 subscribers of the Parkinson and Movement Disorders Alliance (PMD Alliance) News and Information list and was open only to people with PD (PwP) and care partners (CP, defined as main caregivers of PwP and serving as proxy respondents). No attempt was made to identify PwP and CP pairs. The survey was distributed online using Survey Monkey between 01/06/2021 and 02/27/2021. Respondents were grouped by level of social support from outside of their household during the pandemic (decreased or maintained [ie, the same as pre-pandemic or increased]). RESULTS Of 7109 invited participants, 718 responded to the survey (response rate 10.1%). PwP (self-reports) accounted for 70.6% of respondents and CP (proxy reports) for 29.4%. Decreased social support from outside of the household during the COVID-19 pandemic (58.5% of all responses) was significantly associated with increases in sadness/depression and anxiety, compared with maintained levels of social support (p < 0.0001 for both comparisons). It was also associated with increased burden of several non-motor (decline in memory, problem solving, or communication, p = 0.0009; new or worsening confusion, p < 0.0001; new or worsening delusions, p = 0.018) and motor PD symptoms. CONCLUSION Decline in social support from outside of the household during the COVID-19 pandemic showed a statistically significant and negative association with the burden of mood and non-motor symptoms of PD. These results call for increased vigilance towards non-motor symptoms in PwP experiencing social isolation and highlight the need for stronger provider focus on encouraging PwP and their CPs to build and maintain social connections and engagements.

Abstract
The Care4PD study examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the care situation of people (PwP) with Parkinson's disease in Germany. A comprehensive, nationwide, anonymous questionnaire for PwP was distributed by the members' journal of the German Parkinson's Disease Association and in several PD specialized in- and outpatient institutions. PwP subjectively evaluated their general care situation and individual impairments during the pandemic. We analyzed 1269 eligible out of 1437 returned questionnaires (88.3%) and compared PwP with (p-LTC) and without (np-LTC) professional long-term care. Both groups rated the general pandemic-related consequences as being rather mild to moderate (e.g., worsening of symptom or concerns). However, familial/social contact restrictions were indicated as most compromising, whereas access to outpatient professional health care providers was less affected. PwP with professional LTC reported more impairment than those without. COVID-19 vaccination rates and acceptance were generally high (p-LTC: 64.3%, np-LTC: 52.3%) at the time of the study, but realization of sanitary measures-especially wearing masks as a patient during care sessions-still needs to be improved. Technical options for telemedicine were principally available but only rarely used. Altogether, during the COVID-19 pandemic, PwP in Germany seemed to have a relatively stable health care access, at least in outpatient settings, while mainly social isolation compromised them. The p-LTC group was more impaired in everyday live compared with the np-LTC group.

Abstract
We conducted the multicenter questionnaire survey targeting patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in order to investigate the impacts on their daily lives and their requests to hospitals in the pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Mainly using open-ended questionnaire, we asked their anxiety, troubles they are facing, and requests toward hospitals in the pandemic of SARS-CoV-2. Two hundred fifth-eight PD patients answered the questionnaire. There were various opinions about anxiety such as "PD patients are susceptible and vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2" (36.8%). Concerning the troubles in the pandemic, the most frequent answer was that they couldn't participate in the rehabilitation and elderly day care (38.4%). Relatively many PD patients requested telemedicine (29.5%), whereas some people hoped face-to-face medical care (8.1%). There were demands about the delivery of medications (50.0%), the establishment of telephone consultations (43.8%), resources for rehabilitation at home (43.8%). The medical care adapted to the anxiety, trouble and requests of PD patients will be required in the era when we have to live with SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has affected the daily life of the worldwide population since 2020. Links between the newly discovered viral infection and the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases have been investigated in different studies. This review aims to summarize the literature concerning COVID-19 and Parkinson's disease (PD) to give an overview on the interface between viral infection and neurodegeneration with regard to this current topic. We will highlight SARS-CoV-2 neurotropism, neuropathology and the suspected pathophysiological links between the infection and neurodegeneration as well as the psychosocial impact of the pandemic on patients with PD. Some evidence discussed in this review suggests that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic might be followed by a higher incidence of neurodegenerative diseases in the future. However, the data generated so far are not sufficient to confirm that COVID-19 can trigger or accelerate neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
Objectives The COVID-19 pandemic caused countries across the globe to impose restrictions to slow the spread of the virus, with people instructed to stay at home and reduce contact with others. This reduction in social contact has the potential to negatively impact mental health and well-being. The restrictions are particularly concerning for people with existing chronic illnesses such as Parkinson's disease, who may be especially affected by concerns about the pandemic and associated reduction of social contact. The aim of this review was to synthesise published literature on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social and psychological well-being of people with Parkinson's disease. Study design The design of this study is a scoping review. Methods We searched five electronic databases for English language articles containing primary data on this topic. Results Thirty-one relevant studies were found and included in the review. Six main themes were identified: impact of the pandemic on physical and mental health; COVID-19 concerns; access to health care; impact on daily and social activities; impact on physical activity and impact on caregivers. Levels of perceived risk of COVID-19 differed across studies, but most participants had adopted preventive measures such as staying at home and reducing social contacts. Participants in many studies reported a discontinuation of regular healthcare appointments and physiotherapy, as well as concerns about being able to obtain medication. Loss of daily activities and social support was noted by many participants. There was mixed evidence on the impact of the pandemic on physical exercise, with some studies finding no change in physical activity and others reporting a reduction; generally, participants with reduced physical activity had poorer mental health and greater worsening of symptoms. Caregivers of people with Parkinson's disease were more likely to be negatively affected by the pandemic if they cared for people with complex needs such as additional mental health problems. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic has had negative effects on the physical and mental health of people with Parkinson's disease, perhaps due to disruption of healthcare services, loss of usual activities and supports and reduction in physical activity. We make recommendations for policy, practice and future research.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) patients who contracted Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid‐19) had a decline in motor functions; nevertheless, there is limited evidence on whether PD patients have a higher risk for contracting Covid‐19 or have worse outcomes. This is the first systematic review and meta‐analysis to review the impact of PD on the prognosis of Covid‐19 patients. We performed a systematic search through seven electronic databases under the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta‐analyses statement (PRISMA) guidelines. The R software version 4.0.2 was used to calculate pooled sample sizes and their associated confidence intervals (95%CI). Finally, we included 13 papers in this study. The pooled prevalence rate of Covid‐19 was 2.12% (95%CI: 0.75–5.98). Fever, cough, fatigue and anorexia were the most common symptoms with a rate of 72.72% (95% CI: 57.3 ‐ 92.29), 66.99% (95% CI: 49.08–91.42), 61.58% (95% CI: 46.69–81.21) and 52.55% (95% CI: 35.09–78.68), respectively. The pooled rates were 39.89% (95% CI: 27.09–58.73) for hospitalisation, 4.7% (95% CI: 1.56–14.16) for ICU admission and 25.1% (95%CI: 16.37–38.49) for mortality. On further comparison of hospitalisation and mortality rates among Covid‐19 patients with and without PD, there were no significant differences. In conclusion, the prevalence and prognosis of Covid‐19 patients seem comparable in patients with PD and those without it. The increased hospitalisation and mortality may be attributed to old age and co‐morbidities.

Abstract
Background There is debate as to whether there is an increased risk of COVID‐19 infection in people with Parkinson's disease (PD), possibly due to associated factors. This study aimed to systematically review the factors associated with COVID‐19 in people with PD. Methods A search was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science up to November 2020 (updated until 1 April 2021). Observational studies that analyzed factors associated with COVID‐19 in people with PD were selected and revised. Results The authors included six studies (four case‐controlled studies and two cross‐sectional studies) in the qualitative and quantitative syntheses. The authors found that the following factors were associated with COVID‐19 in people with PD: obesity (OR: 1.79, 95% CI: 1.07–2.99, I2: 0%), any pulmonary disease (OR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.17–3.15, I2: 0%), COVID‐19 contact (OR: 41.77, 95% CI: 4.77 – 365.56, I2: 0%), vitamin D supplementation (OR: 0.50, 95% CI: 0.30–0.83, I2: 0%), hospitalization (OR: 11.78, 95% CI: 6.27–22.12, I2: 0%), and death (OR: 11.23, 95% CI: 3.92–32.18, I2: 0%). The authors did not find any significant association between COVID‐19 and hypertension, diabetes, cardiopathy, cancer, any cognitive problem, dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal or hepatic disease, smoking, and tremor. Conclusions Meta‐analyses were limited by the number of events and some methodological limitations. Despite this, the authors assessed the available evidence, and the results may be useful for future health policies.
