Abstract
This study investigated the effects of Tai Chi training on functionality, dynamic balance, kinesiophobia, and quality of life in athletes with Functional Ankle Instability (FAI). Forty-three athletes with FAI were randomly assigned to either a Tai Chi group (n = 21) or a control group (n = 22). The Tai Chi group followed a tailored exercise protocol addressing ankle instability through a three-phase progression, while the control group had no intervention but continued their usual activities. Measurements, including Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT), Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), Short Form-12 (SF-12), figure-8 hop test, and perceived treatment effect were assessed before and after the intervention. The Tai Chi group showed significant improvements in CAIT score and SEBT reach distance compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Tai Chi exercises also reduced TSK, improved figure-8 hop score, and enhanced the physical component of SF-12 (p < 0.005), with no significant effect on the mental component of SF-12 (p = 0.7). The findings imply that Tai Chi may be a valuable consideration for athletic trainers and sports medicine professionals working with athletes with FAI.

Abstract
Athletes have a high risk of injury. Kinesiophobia is a condition in which an individual experiences a fear of physical movement and activity after an injury occurs. Our purpose was to systematically review the literature about Kinesiophobia in athletes. A systematic review was conducted in February 2023 using PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Medline. Studies were included if they were peer-reviewed, in English, within the last 20 years and included athletes who had been injured and tracked Kinesiophobia. Articles were checked for quality via the modified Downs and Black checklist. Fourteen studies were included in the review and had an average "fair" quality score. Authors examined Kinesiophobia in injured athletes with mostly lower-extremity injuries. Kinesiophobia was associated with lower physical and mental outcomes. Kinesiophobia exists in athletes and can affect both physical and mental factors. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) was the most common tool used to examine Kinesiophobia. Common mental factors associated with Kinesiophobia include anxiety, low confidence, and fear avoidance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sensorimotor impairment following distal radius fracture (DRF) has been associated with a significant decline in function. Joint position sense (JPS) testing is a meaningful and responsive way to assess sensorimotor impairment for individuals who have sustained a DRF; however, there are factors that may influence the results of JPS testing, including kinesiophobia and pain intensity. PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the influence kinesiophobia may have on wrist JPS testing and if pain intensity impacts kinesiophobia and JPS in individuals with a DRF. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study. METHODS Participants referred from two medical centers with a diagnosis of DRF treated with at least 3 weeks of immobilization were enrolled in the study. Data were collected at 1 week and 6 weeks postimmobilization period. Demographics were summarized with descriptive statistics, and linear relationships between kinesiophobia, pain intensity, and wrist JPS were examined using Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS Forty-eight participants were included in this study (mean age 42.9 years). Significant positive correlations were found between the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS; r = 0.951, p < 0.001), TSK and JPS error (r = 0.942, p < 0.001), as well as NRS and JPS error (r = 0.898, p < 0.001). These correlations indicate that higher levels of kinesiophobia are associated with increased pain intensity and greater JPS error. T-tests reveal no significant difference between male and female for the TSK, NRS, or JPS scores. CONCLUSIONS There is an association for individuals with high levels of kinesiophobia and both greater pain and errors with JPS testing.

Abstract
Background Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI) is a common musculoskeletal condition characterized by recurring ankle sprains and impaired postural control (PC). Understanding the relationship between ankle muscle strength, PC, and the role of pain is essential for effective management. Objectives This prospective cross sectional study aimed to 1. Compare ankle isometric muscle strength (IMS) and PC between CAI and asymptomatic sides. 2. Assess the correlations between ankle IMS and PC and explore the potential mediating effect of pain in individuals with CAI. Methods A total of 44 individuals with CAI, were enrolled in the study. Ankle IMS (dorsiflexors, plantar flexors, invertors, and evertors) was measured using a dynamometer, while PC was evaluated using sway parameters (anterior-posterior and medial-lateral sway, ellipse area). Pain levels were reported using a Visual Analog Scale. Results The CAI ankles exhibited significantly lower ankle IMS in all muscle groups compared to the asymptomatic ankles (p < 0.001). Additionally, the CAI side showed increased postural sway and a larger ellipse area (p < 0.001), indicating reduced PC. Negative correlations were observed between ankle IMS and PC parameters on the CAI side, with dorsiflexor strength showing correlations ranging from -0.423 to -0.387, plantar flexor strength ranging from -0.423 to -0.371, invertor strength ranging from -0.412 to -0.238, and evertor strength ranging from -0.451 to -0.365 (p < 0.001). Mediation analysis revealed that pain played a significant mediating role in connecting ankle IMS and PC parameters among individuals with CAI, with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Conclusions Individuals with CAI exhibit weaker ankle IMS and diminished PC in comparison to their healthy side. Moreover, pain was identified as a mediator in the relationship between ankle IMS and PC in CAI. These findings underscore the importance of addressing both ankle IMS and pain in the rehabilitation and management of CAI.

Abstract
Limits of stability is required to perform functional activities and other advanced tasks of life without losing balance, and assessment of limits of stability is essential in clinical practice. Forward, Lateral, and Oblique direction reach tests are clinical balance tests that assess limits of stability, and these reach distances in various directions may be symmetrical or asymmetrical. The aim was to establish the symmetry between various reach distances on three reach tests and to establish the concurrent validity of oblique, forward, and lateral direction reach test distances with limits of stability measured by the Iso Free machine of TecnoBody company. METHODS The measurements of oblique, forward, and lateral reach tests and limits of stability excursions of center of pressure were taken in eight directions on Iso Free machine of Techno Body in fifty typical college-going young adults who were recruited through convenience sampling. Pearson correlation test was used to find the relationship between forward, lateral, and oblique direction reaches and limits of stability in forward, lateral, and oblique directions. Regression analysis was used to find the factors influencing the forward, lateral, and oblique reach tests. RESULTS The reach distances were symmetrical, and out of the three tests, the lateral and oblique direction reach tests have a moderate positive correlation with limits of stability test in lateral and oblique directions with an r-value of 0.569 (p < 0.001) and 0.50 (p < 0.001) respectively. A Significant standardized beta value of 0.49 (p < 0.05) for the oblique direction reach test with total stability limits. CONCLUSIONS The oblique and lateral direction reach tests are correlated with their respective center of pressure excursion. However, the oblique direction reach test moderately correlated with the total limits of stability scores. Forward reach distances were more in number followed by oblique and lateral reach distances among young Saudi adults.

Abstract
Background Osteoporosis, characterized by reduced bone mass and micro-architectural deterioration, poses a significant public health concern due to increased fracture susceptibility. Beyond bone health, this cross-sectional study aimed to assess and compare lower extremity proprioception and postural stability in individuals with and without osteoporosis and to explore their correlation within the osteoporosis group. Method In this prospective cross-sectional study, 80 participants were divided into two groups: osteoporosis (n = 40) and control (n = 40). The demographic characteristics and clinical parameters of the participants were as follows: Age (years) - Osteoporosis group: 65.04 ± 4.33, Control group: 65.24 ± 4.63; Sex (%) - Osteoporosis group: Male 30%, Female 70%; Control group: Male 30%, Female 70%; Body mass index (kg/m2) - Osteoporosis group: 23.7 ± 3.2, Control group: 24.5 ± 4.6; T-score (Lumbar) - Osteoporosis group: -2.86 ± 1.23, Control group: 0.27 ± 0.58; T-score (hip) - Osteoporosis group: -2.28 ± 0.79, Control group: 0.68 ± 0.86. Joint Position Sense (JPS) at the hip, knee, and ankle was assessed using a digital inclinometer, and postural stability was measured using computerized force platforms. Result Osteoporosis participants exhibited higher errors in hip (5.63° vs. 2.36°), knee (4.86° vs. 1.98°), and ankle (4.46° vs. 2.02°) JPS compared to controls. Postural stability measures showed increased anterior-posterior sway (10.86 mm vs. 3.98 mm), medial-lateral sway (8.67 mm vs. 2.89 mm), and ellipse area (966.88 mm2 vs. 446.19 mm2) in osteoporosis participants. Furthermore, correlation analyses within the osteoporosis group unveiled significant positive associations between lower extremity proprioception and postural stability. Specifically, hip JPS exhibited a strong positive correlation with anterior-posterior sway (r = 0.493, p = 0.003), medial-lateral sway (r = 0.485, p = 0.003), and ellipse area (r = 0.496, p < 0.001). Knee JPS displayed a moderate positive correlation with anterior-posterior sway (r = 0.397, p = 0.012), medial-lateral sway (r = 0.337, p = 0.032), and ellipse area (r = 0.378, p < 0.001). Similarly, ankle JPS showed a moderate positive correlation with anterior-posterior sway (r = 0.373, p = 0.023), medial-lateral sway (r = 0.308, p = 0.045), and ellipse area (r = 0.368, p = 0.021). Conclusion These findings underscore the interplay between proprioceptive deficits, compromised postural stability, and osteoporosis, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to improve fall prevention strategies and enhance the quality of life for individuals with osteoporosis.

Abstract
Bilateral knee osteoarthritis (OA) poses significant challenges to individuals' functional abilities, including quadriceps strength, postural stability, and pain perception. Understanding the complex relationships among these factors is crucial for enhancing knee OA management strategies. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate and draw comparisons between the strength of the quadriceps and the level of postural stability in two distinct groups: individuals afflicted with bilateral knee OA and those who are healthy. Furthermore, the study seeks to examine the potential correlation between the strength of the quadriceps and the level of postural stability in individuals with knee OA. In addition to this, an investigation into the potential mediating effect of pain on the relationship between these physiological factors will also be conducted. A total of 95 participants with bilateral knee OA and 95 healthy controls were recruited. Quadriceps strength was assessed using dynamometry and postural stability was evaluated through anterior-posterior and medial-lateral sway measurements along with the ellipse area using a force plate. Pain levels were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Mediation analysis was employed to explore the role of pain in mediating the relationship between quadriceps strength and postural stability. Statistical analyses included t-tests, Pearson correlation coefficients, and mediation analysis. Knee OA participants exhibited significantly lower quadriceps strength (1.08 Nm/kg ± 0.54) compared to controls (1.54 Nm/kg ± 0.57, p < 0.001). They also demonstrated compromised postural stability with increased anterior-posterior sway (9.86 mm ± 3.017 vs. 2.98 mm ± 1.12, p < 0.001), medial-lateral sway (7.87 mm ± 2.23 vs. 3.12 mm ± 1.34, p < 0.001), and larger ellipse area (935.75 mm2 ± 172.56 vs. 436.19 mm2 ± 135.48, p < 0.001). Negative correlations were observed between quadriceps strength and postural stability variables (r = from -0.43 to -0.51, p < 0.001). Pain significantly mediated the relationship between quadriceps strength and postural stability variables (p < 0.05). This study highlights the associations between quadriceps strength, postural stability, and pain mediation in individuals with bilateral knee OA. Our findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions addressing quadriceps weakness and compromised postural stability. Additionally, the mediation effect of pain underscores the complexity of these relationships, offering insights for more effective management strategies.

Abstract
Purpose To assess content validity and to modify the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) to make it suitable for application in patients with anterior shoulder instability. Methods A four-round Delphi method was performed to establish expert consensus on developing the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia for patients with anterior shoulder instability (TSK-SI) using an expert group of Dutch shoulder-specialized orthopedic surgeons and physiotherapists. During round 1, experts were asked to score the 17 items of the original TSK on relevance and construction using the COSMIN guidelines. With this feedback, questions were reviewed and modified. During round 2, experts were asked to score the modified items. This process was repeated until consensus was established. Then, patients were asked to participate in a moderator-guided, three-step-test interview using a Web-based platform to assess the modified scale. Sessions were recorded and evaluated by the working group. The modified scale was finally adjusted on the basis of the input of these patients. Results Thirty Dutch shoulder experts were included, of which 25 completed all 4 rounds, after which consensus was established. One question was added to the modified scale based on feedback in round 1, establishing the 18-item TSK-SI. Sixteen patients with shoulder instability were included, which all completed the three-step test interview. Following this, question 4 (changed to present tense) and question 7 (hypothetical component added) were adjusted, resulting in the final TSK-SI. Conclusions This consensus modification of the TSK to TSK-SI can support the content validity of the instrument to assess kinesiophobia in patients with anterior shoulder instability. These modifications may improve the responsiveness and validity of the TSK-SI, as it does not match all the items of the original TSK. Level of evidence Level V, consensus statement.

Abstract
Impaired proprioception is a recognized complication in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), contributing to balance deficits and increased risk of falls. However, limited research has focused on lumbar proprioception in this population. This study aimed to investigate lumbar proprioception in individuals with T2DM, as well as healthy individuals. Additionally, this study aimed to examine the correlation between lumbar proprioception and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, which is a marker of long-term glycemic control in T2DM. A cross-sectional study was conducted, comparing lumbar joint reposition errors (JRE) between a T2DM group (n = 85) and a healthy group (n = 85). Lumbar JRE was assessed in flexion, extension, lateral bending left, and lateral bending right using a dual inclinometer device. HbA1c levels were measured as an indicator of glycemic control. Significant differences in lumbar JRE were found between the T2DM and healthy groups, with individuals with T2DM exhibiting larger JRE values, indicating impaired lumbar proprioception (p < 0.001). The correlation analysis revealed significant positive associations between HbA1c levels and lumbar JRE. Higher HbA1c levels were correlated with greater joint JRE in flexion (r = 0.49, p < 0.001), extension (r = 0.51, p < 0.001), left lateral bending (r = 0.45, p < 0.001), and right lateral bending (r = 0.48, p < 0.001) in the T2DM group. This study provides evidence of impaired lumbar proprioception in individuals with T2DM, as evidenced by larger lumbar JRE compared to the healthy group.

Abstract
Subacromial Impingement Syndrome (SAIS) is a common shoulder condition characterized by pain and functional impairment. Proprioception, the sense of joint position and movement, is crucial in maintaining joint stability and coordinating movements. The relationship between shoulder proprioception, pain intensity, and functional disability in individuals with SAIS remains unclear, with conflicting findings in the literature. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate shoulder proprioception, examine its correlation with pain intensity and functional disability, and contribute to our understanding of the clinical implications of proprioceptive deficits in individuals with SAIS. Forty-two individuals were diagnosed with SAIS, and an equal number of asymptomatic controls were recruited. Shoulder proprioception was assessed using a digital inclinometer, measuring joint position sense at various angles of flexion and rotation. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and functional disability was assessed using the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). Results: Individuals with SAIS exhibited significantly higher joint position error (JPE) values compared to asymptomatic controls in all measured angles of flexion and rotation (p < 0.001). Strong positive correlations were observed between JPE and pain intensity (r = 0.61 to 0.71, p < 0.01) and disability (r = 0.56 to 0.68, p < 0.01). These findings suggest impaired shoulder proprioception is associated with higher pain intensity and functional disability in SAIS. This study provides evidence of impaired shoulder proprioception in individuals with SAIS and its correlation with pain intensity and functional disability. The results highlight the clinical relevance of proprioceptive deficits in SAIS and emphasize the importance of incorporating proprioceptive assessment and targeted rehabilitation interventions into managing this condition. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies with larger and more diverse samples to further understand the underlying mechanisms and evaluate the effectiveness of proprioceptive interventions in improving outcomes for individuals with SAIS.

Abstract
(1) Background: Individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) may experience proprioceptive and balance impairments. Kinesiophobia is a factor that can mediate the relationship between cervical joint position sense (JPS) and limits of stability. The objectives of this study were to (1) compare the cervical JPS and limits of stability between FMS and asymptomatic individuals, (2) assess the relationship between cervical JPS and limits of stability, and (3) assess the mediation effect of kinesiophobia on the relationship between cervical JPS and limits of stability in FMS individuals. (2) Methods: In this comparative cross-sectional study, 100 individuals with FMS and 100 asymptomatic individuals were recruited. Cervical JPS was assessed using a cervical range of motion device, limits of stability (reaction time, maximum excursion, and direction control) were assessed using dynamic posturography, and FMS individuals' kinesiophobia was assessed using the Tampa scale of kinesiophobia (TSK). Comparison, correlation, and mediation analyses were performed. (3) Results: The magnitude of the mean cervical joint position error (JPE) was significantly larger in FMS individuals (p < 0.001) compared to the asymptomatic individuals. The limits of the stability test showed that FMS individuals had a longer reaction time (F = 128.74) and reduced maximum excursion (F = 976.75) and direction control (F = 396.49) compared to the asymptomatic individuals. Cervical JPE showed statistically significant moderate-to-strong correlations with reaction time (r = 0.56 to 0.64, p < 0.001), maximum excursion (r = -0.71 to -0.74, p < 0.001), and direction control (r = -0.66 to -0.68, p < 0.001) parameters of the limits of the stability test. (4) Conclusions: Cervical JPS and limits of stability were impaired in FMS individuals, and the cervical JPS showed a strong relationship with limits of stability variables. Moreover, kinesiophobia mediated the relationship between JPS and limits of stability. These factors may be taken into consideration when evaluating and developing treatment strategies for FMS patients.

Abstract
(1) Background: Proprioception and limits of stability can significantly impact static and dynamic balance. Knee proprioception and limits of stability may be impaired in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Impaired knee proprioception may impact the limits of stability, and understanding the associations between these factors is important for formulating treatment strategies in this population. The objectives of this study are to (a) compare the knee joint position error (JPE) and limits of stability between KOA and asymptomatic individuals and (b) assess the correlation between knee JPE and the limits of stability in KOA individuals. (2) Methods: This cross-sectional study included 50 individuals diagnosed with bilateral KOA and 50 asymptomatic individuals. Knee JPE was measured using a dual digital inclinometer at 25° and 45° of knee flexion (in the dominant and nondominant legs). The limits of stability variables, including reaction time (s), maximum excursion (%), and direction control (%), were evaluated using computerized dynamic posturography. (3) Results: The magnitude of the mean knee JPE is significantly larger in KOA individuals (p < 0.001) compared to asymptomatic individuals assessed at 25° and 45° of knee flexion in both the dominant and nondominant legs. The limits of stability test showed that KOA group individuals had a longer reaction time (1.64 ± 0.30 s) and reduced maximum excursion (4.37 ± 0.45) and direction control (78.42 ± 5.47) percentages compared to the asymptomatic group (reaction time = 0.89 ± 0.29, maximum excursion = 5.25 ± 1.34, direction control = 87.50 ± 4.49). Knee JPE showed moderate to strong correlations with the reaction time (r = 0.60 to 0.68, p < 0.001), maximum excursion (r = -0.28 to -0.38, p < 0.001) and direction control (r = -0.59 to -0.65, p < 0.001) parameters in the limits of stability test. (4) Conclusions: Knee proprioception and limits of stability are impaired in KOA individuals compared to asymptomatic individuals, and knee JPE showed significant relationships with the limits of stability variables. These factors and correlations may be considered when evaluating and developing treatment strategies for KOA patients.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of acute Kinesio Taping (KT) intervention on the muscle strength and balance ability of college basketball players with functional ankle instability (FAI).Methods: Thirty college basketball players with FAI were treated with acute KT to test the changes in their muscle strength and balance ability.Results: After acute KT intervention, the ankle dorsiflexion moment and the ankle plantar flexion moment increased by 34% and 19.9%, respectively. The stable plane test with the subjects’ eyes open decreased by 1%, whereas that with the subjects’ eyes closed decreased by 1.1%. The swaying environment test with the subjects’ eyes open increased by 2.4%. The swaying plane test with the subjects’ eyes open increased by 5.1%, whereas that with the subjects’ eyes closed increased by 16.2%. The swaying environment test with the subjects’ eyes open plus the use of a plane increased by 12.1%.Conclusion: KT can increase the isokinetic strength of the ankle dorsum muscle and plantar flexion of college basketball players with FAI. The effect of KT in the static balance test was weaker than that in the dynamic balance test. The findings indicate that KT can significantly improve the balance ability of college basketball players with FAI during dynamic sports.

Abstract
(1) Background: Fear of movement (kinesiophobia) and impaired lumbar joint position sense (LJPS) play a vital role in developing and maintaining non-specific chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, how kinesiophobia impacts LJPS is still being determined. The aims of this study are to (1) assess the correlation between kinesiophobia and LJPS in individuals with chronic low back pain; (2) compare LJPS between individuals with CLBP and those who are asymptomatic; and (3) evaluate if pain can mediate the relationship between kinesiophobia and LJPS in CLBP individuals. (2) Methods: Eighty-three individuals (mean age = 48.9 ± 7.5 years) with a diagnosis of CLBP and 95 asymptomatic individuals (mean age = 49.4 ± 7.0 years) were recruited into this cross-sectional study. Fear of movement in CLBP individuals was assessed using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK). LJPS was determined using the active target repositioning technique using a dual-digital inclinometer. LJPS was evaluated in lumbar flexion, extension, and side-bending left and right directions, and the repositioning accuracy was determined in degrees using a dual digital inclinometer. (3) Results: Kinesiophobia showed a significant (p < 0.001) moderate positive correlation with LJPS (flexion: r = 0.51, extension: r = 0.41, side-bending left: r = 0.37 and side-bending right: r = 0.34). LJPS errors were larger in CLBP individuals compared to asymptomatic individuals (p < 0.05). Mediation analyses showed that pain significantly mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and LJPS (p < 0.05) in CLBP individuals. (4) Conclusions: Kinesiophobia and LJPS were positively associated. LJPS is impaired in CLBP individuals compared to asymptomatic individuals. Pain may mediate adverse effects on LJPS. These factors must be taken into account when assessing and developing treatment plans for those with CLBP.

Abstract
Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is common, disabling, and represents a significant socioeconomic burden. Current treatment options are not adequately efficacious. CAI is multifaceted, yet it is commonly addressed in terms of either mechanical instability or functional impairment. Both are inherently linked. Basic research must be conducted to foster reliable translational research encompassing both mechanical and functional aspects. A review was conducted to identify CAI risk factors for inclusion in future studies, and we offer here opinions and perspectives for future research.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Relationships with the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) score and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11), the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM), sex (0: male, 1: female), and ankle pain intensity by the Numeric Rating Scale were explored with multiple regression analysis. RESULTS The regression model explained 50.3% of the variance of the CAIT score (P < 0.001), and the TSK-11 score (B = -0.382, P = 0.002), the FAAM sports subscale score (B = 0.122, P = 0.038), and sex (B = -2.646, P = 0.031) were significant independent variables for the CAIT score (P < 0.001), while pain intensity was not significant (B = -0.182, P = 0.504). These results indicated that higher TSK-11 score, lower FAAM sports subscale score, and being female were related to lower CAIT score. CONCLUSIONS Kinesiophobia related to perceived instability along with self-reported function and sex in athletes with CAI. Clinicians should assess the psychological aspects of athletes with CAI.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We compared the balance, ROM, clinical scores, kinesiophobia and functional outcomes of patients after all-arthroscopic ATFL repair surgery with the non-operated side and healthy control group. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five patients with follow up time 37.32 ± 12.51 months and twenty-five healthy controls participated in the study. Postural stability was evaluated with the Biodex® balance system by measuring overall (OSI), anterior-posterior (API), and mediolateral (MLI) stability index. Dynamic balance and function were measured using the Y-balance test (YBT) and single-leg hop test (SLH). Limb symmetry index for SLH and contralateral comparisons (YBT, OSI, API, MLI) was performed. The AOFAS score and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) were applied. Two subgroups were created (with OLT and without OLT). RESULTS There was no statistically significant difference between subgroups. There was no statistically significant difference between bilateral OSI, API, MLI values and YBT anterior reach distances of all groups. Single leg OSI (0.78 ± 0.27/0.55 ± 0.12), API (0.55 ± 0.22/0.41 ± 0.10), and MLI (0.40 ± 0.16/ 0.26 ± 0.08) values were significantly worse and YBT posteromedial (73.88 ± 15.70/89.62 ± 12.25), posterolateral reach (78.03 ± 14.08/92.62 ± 8.25) and the SLH distance (117.14 ± 27.84/165.90 ± 20.91) were significantly lower on the patients than controls (p < 0.05), respectively. In contralateral comparisons, all reach distances on YBT were similar and SLH limb symmetry index of the operated side was 98.25%. AOFAS scores of the patients were 92.62 ± 11.13, TSK scores were 46.45 ± 11.32, and 21 patients (84%) had kinesiophobia. CONCLUSION AOFAS score, limb symmetry index, and bilateral balance of the patients were successful; however, there is single-leg postural stability insufficiency and kinesiophobia. Although the extremity symmetry index of the operated side of the patients was 98.25, the fact that these values are lower than those of the healthy control may have been caused by kinesiophobia. During the long-term rehabilitation, kinesiophobia should be considered and single-leg balance exercises should be monitored during the rehabilitation period. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III.

Mediation Effect of Pain on the Relationship between Kinesiophobia and Postural Control: Comparison and Correlations in Individuals with Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Asymptomatic Individuals-A Cross-Sectional Study. Abstract
Background: Individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FM) usually present with a fear of movement (kinesiophobia), which causes their symptoms to be maintained and exacerbated. Kinesiophobia can significantly impact postural control; ascertaining their association is crucial in evaluating and managing individuals with FM. This study aims to (1) compare postural control between individuals with FM and asymptomatic individuals, (2) estimate the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control in individuals with FM, and (3) evaluate whether pain intensity mediates the association between kinesiophobia and postural control in individuals with FM. Methods: This study enrolled 92 individuals (mean age: 51.52 ± 7.7 years) diagnosed with FM and 106 asymptomatic individuals (mean age: 50.47 ± 6.6 years). The examiners estimated the fear of movement and the intensity of pain utilizing the Tampa scale of kinesiophobia (TSK) scores and the visual analogue scale (VAS), respectively. The postural control variables included anteroposterior (A-P) sway in mm, medio-lateral (M-L) sway in mm, and ellipse area in mm2. Results: The individuals with FM had impaired postural control compared to the asymptomatic individuals (p < 0.001). Kinesiophobia exhibited mild-to-moderate correlations with the postural control variables (nondominant side: A-P sway: r = 0.48, M-L sway: r = 0.49, ellipse area: r = 0.43. Dominant side: A-P sway: r = 0.41, M-L sway: r = 0.33, ellipse area: r = 0.44). The pain intensity significantly mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Kinesiophobia showed a significant positive relationship with postural control. The individuals with FM with higher TSK scores had decreased postural control. Pain intensity mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control. These factors must be considered when evaluating and formulating treatment strategies for people with FM.

Abstract
Hip-joint position sense (JPS) accuracy may be impaired in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). An impaired hip JPS can alter postural control and bodily balance. The objectives of this study are to (1) compare the hip JPS between T2DM and asymptomatic and (2) assess the relationship between hip JPS and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc). This comparative cross-sectional study included 117 elderly individuals with T2DM (mean age: 59.82 ± 6.80 y) and 142 who were asymptomatic (mean age: 57.52 ± 6.90 y). The hip JPS was measured using a digital inclinometer. The individuals were repositioned to a target position with their eyes closed, and the magnitudes of matching errors were estimated as reposition errors. The hip JPS was evaluated in the flexion and abduction directions. The magnitude of reposition errors was significantly larger in the T2DM group in the right flexion (p < 0.001), the right abduction (p < 0.001), the left flexion (p < 0.001), and the left abduction (p < 0.001) directions compared to the asymptomatic group. HbA1c values showed a significant positive correlation with JPS in the right-hip flexion (r = 0.43, p < 0.001), the right-hip abduction (r = 0.36, p < 0.001), the left-hip flexion (r = 0.44, p < 0.001), and the left-hip abduction (r = 0.49, p < 0.001) directions. Hip JPS testing may be considered when assessing and formulating treatment strategies for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Future research should focus on how hip JPS can impact balance and falls in individuals with T2DM.

Abstract
Cervical joint position sense (JPS) and postural stability are vital to maintaining balance and preventing falls in fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Impaired cervical JPS may influence postural stability, and understanding the relationship between them can aid in formulating treatment strategies in individuals with FMS. This study aims to (1) assess cervical JPS and postural stability between FMS and control group and (2) determine the correlation between cervical JPS and postural stability in the FMS group. This cross-sectional study recruited 92 FMS patients (mean age: 51.52 ± 7.7 yrs.) and 92 healthy controls (mean age: 49.36 ± 6.9 yrs.). A cervical range of motion (CROM) unit was utilized to assess cervical JPS. The postural stability was assessed using an IsoFree force platform, and anterior-posterior (A/P) and medial-lateral (M/L) directions of sway and ellipse area were measured. Cervical JPS and postural stability tests were assessed and compared between FMS and control groups. Cervical JPS was significantly impaired in FMS compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The JPS errors in FMS group were larger in flexion (FMS = 5.5°, control = 2.4°), extension (FMS = 6.4°, control = 3.0°), and rotation in left (FMS = 5.4°, control = 2.2°) and right directions (FMS = 5.1°, control = 2.8°). FMS individuals demonstrated statistically significant impaired postural stability compared to control in both the dominant and non-dominant legs tested (p < 0.001). The cervical JPS test showed moderate to strong positive correlations with postural stability variables. Statistically significant correlations were observed in all the JPS directions tested with all the postural stability variables (A/P and M/L sway and ellipse area). The correlation coefficients ranged between r = 0.37 (moderate) to 0.75 (strong). Cervical JPS and postural stability are impaired in FMS individuals. A moderate to strong relationship existed between JPS and postural stability. Individuals with FMS who had a greater magnitude of cervical JPS errors exhibited more severe postural control deficits. Therefore, cervical JPS and postural stability tests should be incorporated into routine clinical practice when assessing or formulating treatment strategies for patients with FMS.
